[CVerse] EMLL: If lucha was a videogame

Recommended Posts

I walked into the office, still wondering what I'd gotten my self into. Getting the staredown from a living legend wasn't making things any easier.

Ae98ZpW.jpg

There he was, in the flesh. Luis Montero. One of the true immortals in lucha libre history. Certainly the greatest man to ever grace the roster of MPWF and one of the few to find success north of the border too with California Pro Wrestling. I was speechless.

"Luis, mi amigo, let me introduce you to the real inspiration behind Extremo Mondo de Lucha Libre."

l2oNyp3.jpg

The man speaking was another living legend of lucha libre. Top dog since the '90s in SOTBPW and MPWF, where he and Montero became friends, before he left to set up his own promotion, EMLL, with his friend Montero as chief assistant, booker and road agent. The man as El Bandido. He also happened to be my uncle.

"You see, it was my nephew here I saw playing videogames, that's where I got the idea for EMLL. He got into the business before I could retire, so he couldn't go as Bandido Jr. or Hijo del Bandido. Instead, he is...

vzJMFJw.jpg

...El Bandido Tejano!"

Montero gave me another glance, top to bottom, before he finally said a word. "So he's like a cross between your rudo days and Border Patrol then?" Uncle 'dido stood up in a triumphant pose, so suddenly it almost knocked down the chair behind him. "Oh he's more than that, Luis! He is your new assistant booker!"

I was as shocked as Montero was. I was supposed to come work for the company as a wrestler, not involve myself with creative. Besides, I was certain Montero thought the same thing I did: Nepotism. But uncle 'dido wouln't be stopped.

"You know the business like no other, Luis. You're the best man for the job. But you and me, we're getting out of touch with today's kids. Which is where he comes in. We need the best of both worlds if we're going to provide something that's different but still lucha libre."

Montero slowly nodded in agreement. Not because I was Bandido's nephew, but because he seemed to understand the truth in his friend's argument. He wasn't like those salty veterans who'd be rough to rookies like me. He had two sons in the business working for OLLIE, a stark reminder of his own beginnings. He couldn't demand others to treat his boys well if he didn't do the same for other youngsters. "Give me something, kid" he addressed me. "Assume I own this business and your uncle never was, why should I hire you as booker?"

I smiled under my mask. This was an interview then, huh?

"Well, I've always joked about how wrestling's kinda like beat 'em up games" I began "in that fighters have to wear down opponents with quick simple moves before hitting their big finishers. Can't open a match with your best move and end it there. Especially in lucha libre, 2 out of 3 falls? It's how every fighting game works! So I was thinking, why not add health bars on the big screen? It's not in use after the entrances anyway and a visual reminder of where each fighter's at could be an intuitive way to get the storytelling across. Show that big moves cause a lot of damage, that someone's near defeat but makes a big comeback to win..."

Montero's eyebrows came together as he tried to focus on what I was saying. After a certain point, I doubted he even registered or understood my point. Had I gone too far? Was this too weird for him to grasp? Was I rambling on? Maybe he just wanted to see if I'd answer something, anything, instead of freeze? In a snap, I shooed all the thoughts from my head and quickly wrapped up whatever the hell it was I was saying.

"You know what, Bandido... I think you're right. We are out of touch and your boy has some fresh ideas. This could work out indeed.

Author's Note: So I seem to have a thing for doing several diaries at once, because I want something to play with while giving people time to predict elsewhere. Also, I recently got blamed for inflicting others with the disease, such as moafnsteel who added a SWF dynasty alongside his LSW one and Historian who kicked off AAW after RMW, the latter of which claimed I run 150 diaries. I'd like to clarify this is only my 15th diary on these boards, so I'm not there yet, but trying. Joking aside, EMLL is my favorite Mexican promotion and I've noticed a distinct lack of lucha libre diaries on the boards, which is something I aim to rectify.

Well I will be following! I love me some lucha libre. I'm very excited to see what you do -- and it seems to be a completely different style company from Black Canvas Grappling...and Grimm So Cal... and Deutscher Ringerbund...and Burning Spirit Pro Wreslting...and... Am I forgetting one? (Just kidding!!!!) . In all seriousness, I'm excited to see what you do here. I've never booked EMLL (the no tag team thing has always been challenging for me) and I can't wait to see how your company evolves.

Luis Montero himself comes out to address the fans and announce that due to El Bandido facing some... family problems, he will be stepping in as chief commissioner and matchmaker of EMLL. For first timers, he recaps the rules, including that matches are two falls to a finish and reminds fans this is much more than just two masked men fighting it out; the masks have their own powers and personalities that take over those of the man wearing them. These are artifacts containing ancient spirits, both evil and benevolent in the eternal battle between light and darkness!</p><p>

DeCipher © vs Delirium</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

EMLL's smartest luchador and Campeón Histórico is in the first match, defending the title against the unpredictable wild man that is Delirium. DeCipher's offers for a lock up or test of strength are met with wild brawling from his opponent who doesn't play by rules or logic. It is this chaotic style that leads to a flurry of blows combo sequence, quickly draining DeCipher's health bar displayed on the screen above the entrance as round 1 goes to the challenger. Standing up as his health bar refills for round 2, DeCipher seems to be recalculating his approach. Switching to a more defensive game of counterwrestling, the champion is able to deflect some blows and even reverse a few to deal a bit of damage. As he gets closer to winning the round though, Delirium seems to enter survival mode; in a sudden rush of adrenaline, he explodes into another ultra aggressive and reckless offensive sequence which depletes DeCipher's health bar to get him groggy for the finisher <em><span style="font-size:8px;">(because of course EMLL is ripping off Mortal Kombat if the Scorpion character wasn't enough of a clue, gotta sell the incoming finishing instead of hitting it out of nowhere)</span></em>. Lining up the shot as fans come to life, Delirium hits his Running Knee Strike finisher called Dazed and Confused and just like that, DeCipher loses the match as a roaring Delirium is announced as the new Campeón Histórico EMLL.</p><p>

Payaso Jr vs Soda de la Uva Jr</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Pre-recroded footage airs of the two luchadores crossing paths in a vineyard setting, which thus turns into an impromptu ring. Instead of hitting each other though, wine barrels start to drop from someplace above and the two men initiate a race over who's going to break more in a crude recreation of a classic mini game from the early Street Fighter installments. Soda de la Uva Jr flips to grab a barrel with his legs and smash it to the ground with a rana with a loud bang; they're not actual barrels, but balloons filled with air! Payaso Jr takes the classic path, uppercutting his way around with open palm strikes and surprisingly enough it works wonders thanks to the clown handshake buzzer/taser on the inside of his hand. Despite wowing fans with his skill and creativity, Soda de la Uva is no match for the sheer effectiveness of his clown opponent and once the timer runs out, Lucha Ref announces the score, declaring Payaso Jr as the winner by a landslide!</p><p>

Boriken Love Machine Jr vs Máscara Delfín (with Carolina)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Clad in one of her usual beach babe bikinis, Carolina leads the spirit of the sea, Máscara Delfín, to the ring. His Puerto Rican heartthrob opponent though seems more occupied with impressing Carolina than defeating the dolphin luchador and that costs Boriken the first round. Backed into a corner and with his ego hurting as much as his body, if not more, Love Machine hits the next gear and manages to land enough hits for the equalizer. It's all down to the final round and excitement is through the roof for this close-call contest, with Carolina riling up the fans n favor of her man, who is ultimately able to set up the Delfinisher, a beautiful second rope moonsault to take the fight.</p><p>

Trickster © vs Powerful Man (with Delirante)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Second title match of the show and the dastardly champion is up against the massive bruiser with the very descriptive name of Powerful Man. The first few reconaissance blows are met with indifference by the unmoving tecnico, who retaliates by hitting several slams and power moves that cause Trickster's health bar to dissipate. Challenger wins round 1 and Trickster resorts to his usual underhanded tactics by harassing Delirante. Powerful Man falls for the trick and chases Trickster around the ring, exhausting himself enough to allow the champion to put him in the Stretch of the Truth, a somewhat complex Bodylock Inverted Sleeper. This also provides an opportunity for fans to see how submission moves work in EMLL, slowly draining the recipient's health bar until he escapes, forces a rope break or runs out of health, which is what happens as Powerful Man gets caught long enough for Trickster to win round 2. The final round begins with a show of sportsmanship from Trickster, but it's all a ruse in order to give him wrist control and the element of surprise! Powerful Man falls for it and once again finds himself caught in the Stretch of the Truth, stumbling around but making it to the ropes a second too late as Trickster marks down another successful title defense.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Trickster</strong></p><p><strong>

El Bandido vs Charron</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

It is time for the co-main event next, featuring EMLL's most popular luchador, beloved veteran El Bandido! His opponent is announced as "the acolyte of darkness" Charron and the big man in the executioner's hood comes out, an air of menace about him. The match itself is exciting and hotly contested, but Bandido nonchallantly wins both rounds, putting the exclamation mark at the end with his Hijack (Northern Lights) Suplex.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: El Bandido</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="l2oNyp3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/l2oNyp3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="lpm1WCl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/lpm1WCl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="cJx6orc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cJx6orc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Grabbing a microphone after his victory, Bandido challenges the man who has been plaguing him, Guerrero Muerto, to a one on one match at EMLL's next show. "El Calaca" (the skeleton) himself comes out to answer the challenge, but as it turns out, this was only a distraction so his latest ally, Death's Head, could jump Bandido from behind to set up the two on one beatdown!</p><p>

Walking out of a fancy trailer that's decorated with his name and a big star at the door, "the Hollywood luchador" La Estrella says he will be taking a break from shooting his latest action movie to visit EMLL and wrestle against Ángel De México. Surely a victory over the patriotic Ángel will raise his stock even higher and who knows, maybe tonight the seeds of his next action movie will be sown... based on a true story!</p><p>

Ángel De México vs La Estrella</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The very definition of what comes to mind when fans think of a lucha libre match, the show's main event is packed to the gills with big flashy aerial moves and crowd-popping spots. Unfortunately for Estrella, his recent movie shooting seems to have him stuck trying to execute the script's combat choreography he's been practicing all this time; it's impressive the first time he does it, but Ángel De México quickly learns to anticipate the moves and finds a pattern to counter them, winning both rounds to set up his smashmouth Mexican Death finisher, a Top Rope Double Footed Stomp.</p><p>

Before the show wraps up, Ángel De México grabs a mic and roars a challenge to the Campeón de Mundo EMLL, Snake King, saying he wants to face him for the title!</p><p>

The show had been good enough to win us over some new fans and theoretically, we were popular enough to be regarded as a Regional-sized promotion, even if mr. Montero had vetoed the jump for a few more shows. Both of them had witnessed the fall of MPWF, so I didn't question their business decisions. Besides, I was only here to wrestle and help with creative.</p><p> </p><p> "Would have been better if Snake King actually made an appearance" Montero argued. "Can't be hiding our top champion."</p><p> </p><p> "Well, it's part of his mystique" uncle 'dido responded. "He's a snaky rudo, can't be overexposing him. Speaking of which, there's a few more people I'd like to be making appearances for us. I've made some calls..."</p><p> </p><p> He paused mid-sentence at the sight of mr. Montero rolling his eyes. "Our roster is already deep enough" Montero said, a tone of dissatisfaction evident in his voice. "We don't do parejas or trios matches, so it won't be easy to give everyone enough time under the sun."</p><p> </p><p> "What if we hold longer shows?" I said out loud. They both turned to look at me. "Maybe clip the undercard matches to be a bit shorter too. That way no one's overexposed unless they're top talent and we have more time for everyone to get under the spotlight."</p><p> </p><p> Uncle 'dido nodded slowly. "It covers my suggestion and addresses your worries, Luis. Sooner or later we'll be a Regional promotion and we'll need the talent. If we're only doing a single show per month, might as well make it one to remember!"</p><p> </p><p> Montero was thinking it through. I could tell by now, his skin would make these furrows between his eyebrows when he was trying to focus. I also knew my uncle was counting on his opinion, despite technically having the authority to force things his way. "We could give it a try" he finally spoke, much to the relief of us both "but only if you promise me you'll trim the fat afterwards. Drop some dead weight."</p><p> </p><p> Me and uncle 'dido both nodded. It was never an easy or pleasant process, but it was a necessary one. The question now was, did I tell the locker room to push them towards better performances, or would the threat and uncertainty kill their morale?</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46314" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:8px;">Extremo Mondo de Lucha Libre presents</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Fatalidad</span></strong></p><p><strong> Sat W3 Feb 16</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Title match for the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL</span></p><p> Snake King © vs Ángel De México</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Co-Main Event Grudge match</strong></p><p> El Bandido vs Death's Head</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Mortal Enemies match</strong></p><p> Blue Phantom vs Scorpion</p><p> </p><p> <strong>The King of Hell's Armies vs The Unstable Madman</strong></p><p> Demon King vs Lunatic</p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Master of Chaos vs The Fourth Generation Luchador</strong></p><p> Anarchist vs El Mítico Jr</p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Spirit of Laughter vs The Spirit of Africa</strong></p><p> Payaso Jr vs Zebra Man</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Opener</strong></p><p> Aprendiz Jr vs El Bandido Tejano</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

I kinda suck at wacky comedy-heavy promotions, so coming up with something good for a Comedy-based match was a challenge. Pteroid has set the bar pretty high for my standards when it comes to comedy wrestling, but I couldn't possibly hope to match (or decently rip off) his style so I went another way, shamelessly referencing every fighting videogame I can think of!</p>

Fatalidad

Sat W2 Feb 16, Attendance: 1.629

Arena National, Tijuana, Northern Mexico

8cri1JW.jpg

The show kicks off with a video package of Ángel De México training at some run down gym, before he addresses the camera to cut a promo on the Campeón de Mundo EMLL, Snake King and hype up their main event title match tonight.

mwL0z0W.jpg

ZTqQ047.jpg25UZG0h.pngvzJMFJw.jpg

Aprendiz Jr vs El Bandido Tejano

It is no secret Bandido Tejano has more connecting him to El Bandido besides the name as the youngster pulls off several signature moves usually linked to his famous real life uncle. Aprendiz Jr on the other hand seems to be a versatile chameleon of a wrestler, adapting his style to use moves that various luchadores hit during last month's show as well as steal some of Tejano's own moves. This fluid style makes him pretty hard to fight against and quickly leads him to deplete Tejano's health bar for a straight 2-0 win.

Winner: Aprendiz Jr

jI4u1Uy.jpg25UZG0h.pngyfrGuvS.jpgwus8zEgT.jpg

Payaso Jr vs Zebra Man (with Lucia Valencia)

Zebra Man is shown out on a date with Lucia Valencia at the local amusement park. He knocks off cans with a tennis ball to win a big teddy bear for her, swings a hammer at the test of strength machine to ring the bell on top, but totally loses it when he comes across a carousel whose horses have been painted crudely with a black and white stripe pattern. The perpetrator is not far away and Payaso Jr gets caught red handed (actually, black and white handed) by the valiant hero. An attempt to make peace only complicates things further as Payaso Jr's attempt at a baloon animal gift only further infuriates Zebra Man, who seems to be considering it all a ridicule of everything he stands for. The two men come to blows in a slapstick battle that involves buckets of paint, ranas off the carousel, a chase into the house of horrors rail ride and a cotton candy swordfight before Payaso Jr accidentally knocks over an old jukebox that begins blasting a Mexican cover of Toto's 1982 classic "Africa". Invigorated by the music, Zebra Man gets a sudden burst of strength and finally lifts up his opponent for the Zebra Crush, a Double Leg Whiplash Slam, onto the jukebox for the win.

Winner: Zebra Man

yfrGuvS.jpg

After receiving congratulations from a thrilled Lucia Valencia, Zebra Man turns to face the camera and cuts a promo to challenge the newest Campeón de Histórico EMLL, Delirium, to a title match.

M4SOg7D.jpg

V3KisHB.jpg

Next up is a video package introducing the fourth generation luchador, El Mítico Jr. The video highlights his ancestry, a few of his signature moves and wraps up with him cutting a promo on his disrespectful next opponent, Anarchist.

87E3trK.jpg

vWs44TZ.jpg25UZG0h.pngV3KisHB.jpg

Anarchist vs El Mítico Jr

As hinted earlier, Anarchist is indeed wildly disrespectful of lucha libre history, ethics and tradition, taking shortcuts whenever he can and generally taunting his esteemed opponent. Theatrics aside though, both men hit some spectacular moves and apparently mesh well with each other, their chemistry elevating the quality of the match until the big finish of Mítico delivering his Northern Lights Suplex finisher for the win.

Winner: El Mítico Jr

87E3trK.jpg

90ZRUAI.jpgtdNTUpR.jpg

Next up is a video package to introduce Demon King and Lunatic, hyping up their upcoming clash. The footage is edited to jump back and forth between the two, with Demon King presented a some kind of damned hero or redeemed villain of the underworld (more or less an elaborate rip-off of Todd McFarlane's Spawn) as opposed to the unhinged, bloodthirsty madman that is Lunatic.

M4SOg7D.jpg

90ZRUAI.jpg25UZG0h.pngtdNTUpR.jpg

Demon King vs Lunatic

Lunatic's reckless aggression takes Demon King by storm and drains most of his health bar from the start of the match, leading him to fight an uphill battle. Despite his best efforts though, Demon King loses the first round. More aware of what he's up against now, the King of Hell's Armies seems to be faring better and wins round two for the equalizer, taking the match to the final tie breaker. Lunatic seems to be losing steam by this point, his style degrading into a wild frenzy of offense that exposes him to all sorts of measured counterattacks from a cool-headed Demon King, who ends up locking in the Eternal Pain to completely drain his opponent's health bar and win the match.

Winner: Demon King

M4SOg7D.jpg

hs0PwOv.jpgHNWGGpz.jpg

Another video package airs next, recapping the story of assassinated-ninja-turned-undead-spectre Scorpion, out for revenge against the man that took his life. Turns out that man is none other than Blue Phantom, essentially a rip off of Mortal Kombat's Sub Zero because why the hell not?

ozLd3Bm.jpg

hs0PwOv.jpg25UZG0h.pngHNWGGpz.jpg

Scorpion vs Blue Phantom

The drama writes itself here really and the two arch rivals go all out in their attack, hitting their biggest moves in an attempt to eliminate each other. From the looks of it, Scorpion is somewhat shocked to see his nemesis turn up in EMLL and many of his moves are executed badly. Phantom on the other hand not only looks slick, he also avoids embarrassment by presenting his "sub zero" character as a cool, methodical iceman of a fighter instead of, you know, actually trying to sell stuff like shooting ice out of his hands. Scorpion's initial rush of rage is enough to earn him the first fall, but in the long run that backfires to make him sloppy, allowing the calm Phantom to claw his way towards winning the next two rounds and claim victory.

Winner: Blue Phantom

87E3trK.jpg

l2oNyp3.jpglpm1WCl.jpgcJx6orc.jpg

Shown in his mountainous hideout, Bandido cuts a promo on the men who attacked him last month, promising to defeat Death's Head before facing Guerrero Muerto. The camera cuts to the two men in eerily low lighting that compliments their whispered delivery of a promo as they cryptically talk about having many more surprises to spring at the "naive" Bandido.

rCrbMWQ.jpg

l2oNyp3.jpg25UZG0h.pngcJx6orc.jpg

El Bandido vs Death's Head

Death's Head is one of the largest and most muscular men on the EMLL roster, an advantage he isn't afraid to use for his big power moves. Unfortunately for him, the crafty veteran proves to be both too fast and too experienced to be bullied around. It takes some effort, but Bandido takes the first round and then the second, finishing things off with his Hijack (Northern Lights) Suplex.

Winner: El Bandido

87E3trK.jpg

l2oNyp3.jpglpm1WCl.jpgtlJbdm1.jpg

Bandido barely has time to strike his victory pose before Guerrero Muerto shows up. For a while it seems like the two of them will go at it there and then, but fans are denied when Charron attacks an unsuspecting Bandido from behind. Guerrero Muerto and Charron join forces to stomp down on the fallen Bandido, apparently having recruited the Styx Ferryman to their cause.

Title match for the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL

6RV66V0.jpg25UZG0h.png8cri1JW.jpg

Snake King © vs Ángel De México

It is time for the show's main event, a title showdown between defending champion Snake King and his hot new challenger, Ángel De México. Both men are skilled high fliers, though Snake King complements his moveset with technical grappling whereas Ángel's musculature means he leans towards strikes and power moves. This all makes for an exciting and well rounded match that is too close for comfort at all times, apparent when Ángel barely takes the first round with his own health bar barely having anything left in it. Round two is no different and once again, Ángel De México gets lucky to land the final blow with minimal health left on his side, leading to the big setup of his Mexican Death finisher, a Top Rope Double Footed Stomp that knocks Snake King out for good.

Winner: Ángel De México

"Thank you gentlemen and welcome to the México Tricolor family!"

l2oNyp3.jpgAe98ZpW.jpgvzJMFJw.jpg

I cast a side glance to Mr. Montero and uncle 'Dido flanking me, not sure of how I was expected to act now. The ink of our signatures still hadn't dried on the contract, but there was no turning back now. We were officially a Regional promotion now. We had made the necessary investments as far as our Production Values were concerned. And now, we were about to broadcast our next show on live television.

México Tricolor were new to the scene, but they were hellbent on beating "Los Tres Canales" as Canal Uno, Dos and Tres were known in the business. Canal Tres provided national coverage, Dos crept into Puerto Rico and the southern US while Uno went all the way north to the Canadian border. They had high standards and wide coverage, so instead of competing on that, México Tricolor went the other way. Their channels were split to cover each region of the country: México Blanco in the south, Rojo in the west central area and Verde, our contracted hosts by this point, covered the north. Their expectations were lower and their coverage was more focused.

One of the reasons Mr. Montero vetoed the jump in size earlier this year was his fear that we'd have to outright compete with OLLIE on top of CILL. Mexico's oldest promotion had a long standing deal with Canal Tres, meaning the glitz and glam was through the roof in order to secure nation-wide broadcasting. We'd have to dig real deep into our pockets to rival that, but the creation of México Tricolor provided us with a slower, safer alternative. We would spend less and focus on our home base in the north instead of instigating an arms race with OLLIE to do battle across the country. After all, being a modern alternative is what EMLL is all about.

"So hey, Luis, mi amigo... the other night I heard whispers in the locker room about Carolina maybe dating the ref. Picked up anything yourself?"

Seriously now, uncle?

Charron vs El Mítico Jr

Charron is vicious, but he is no match for the fast and skillful Mítico. The few moves he manages to connect with do plenty of damage and his experience edge allows him to dodge a fair share of hits himself, but Mítico just won't be stopped and wins the match after beating Charron in both rounds.

Winner: El Mítico Jr

87E3trK.jpg

V3KisHB.jpg

After his victory, Mítico talks down Charron for allying himself with Death's Head and Guerrero Muerto, before saying he wants to face a different thorn on Bandido's side, a man who doesn't respect what Mítico stands for, honour and respect towards the legacy of one's elders: El Bandido Tejano.

Boriken Love Machine Jr vs Powerful Man (with Delirante)

Once again, the Puerto Rican luchador's attention seems to be split between the match itself and impressing Delirante on the sidelines. Despite his obvious talent and athleticism, his lack of focus means BLM Jr is often distracted enough to take some big hits from his opponent, but this only fuels him to retaliate with more vigor as he looks to win over Delirante. After losing the first round, Powerful Man seems pressed to score the equalizer, but his slugginess compared to his opponent means most of his attacks miss and cost him the second round. Nodding at Delirante before delivering his finisher, Boriken Love Machine Jr puts on an impressive display of strength as he lifts up the much larger Powerful Man to deliver the Love Gun, a big falling side slam.

Winner: Boriken Love Machine Jr

M4SOg7D.jpg

The match now officially over, Boriken Love Machine Jr is free to hit on Delirante, but a timely recovery from Powerful Man forces him to a quick retreat.

The Riddle of Fun match turns out to be a contest of wits between the two participants: they get to take turns asking the most weird, surreal riddles they can come up with and whoever wins gets to land a hit on the loser. Payaso Jr comes up with all sorts of wacky stuff, but no riddle is too hard for the Master of Mystery to crack. DeCipher's ciphers are not as funny, but they certainly give the clown a hard time. By the end of it, DeCipher looks to be just as maddened as his opponent and out of nowhere, forgets about the rules to outright hit his finisher, technically winning the match but probably now having crossed over into the dark side...

Winner: DeCipher

Delirium © vs Zebra Man (with Lucia Valencia)

Delirium's frantic style takes Zebra Man by storm and the first round is over quickly as the Mexicafrican luchador finds himself cornered and pummeled until his health bar goes all red. Spurred back into action by Lucia Valencia and making the best of his opponent's much needed recovery time, Zebra Man is able to get some offense going in the second round until Delirium throws him off pace by retreating to babble something incoherent and attempt to rip out his own mask. For a moment, the challenger looks confused and in an instant, Delirium's delirium is unleashed in the form of a violent assault on Zebra Man, who ends up receiving the Dazed and Confused running knee strike to stop his hopes of capturing the title.

Death's Head vs Scorpion

Both fighters are coming off a loss and jump into the match with determination to win it. Death's Head isn't shy about using his big power advantage to obliterate Scorpion with strikes and slams, his attacks draining big chunks out of the ninja's health bar. The loss of round one seems to help Scorpion re-focus and his rapid movement style allows him to get some offense rolling against his now overconfident and somewhat sloppy opponent, but all it takes is a single opening and Death's Head hits a series of moves to win the second round and initiate the FINISH HIM sequence for his Powerbomb.

Winner: Death's Head

Trickster © vs Aprendiz Jr

An extremely evasive encounter for the night's second title match, with both competitors looking to surprise each other through tricks, defense and retaliative strikes. Trickster has the initiative right out of the gates and manages to smartly win the first round, with Aprendiz Jr adapting to use his own tactics against him for the equalizer. It all comes down to a dramatic tie breaker where every hit matters, but Trickster ends up winning the whole match after sacrificing himself and taking a few hits in order to lure in his opponent to lock in the Stretch of the Truth.

La Estrella is shown in various red carpet events, rubbing elbows with the big names of the entertainment industry, dodging his (male) fans requesting autographs and posing for photos with his (good looking female) fans. Eventually, someone passes him a memo, saying he's "among those considered" for an upcoming film adaptation of Aquaman. Smirking at the thought of not being outright offered the lead role, Estrella takes a look at the list and to his outrage, notices the name of Máscara Delfín on it!

La Estrella vs Máscara Delfín (with Carolina)

Fuming with rage as he's finally confronted with Máscara Delfín, La Estrella pulls off his biggest moves as soon as the match starts, his frustration causing him to hit some of them in a somewhat sloppy manner, but still it's good enough to give him the win in the first round. Máscara Delfín tries to bounce back and exploit Estrella's emotions against him, but the Hollywood Luchador just won't be denied victory (and the lead role) by Delfín, adding the exclamation mark at the end of the fight with his Hollywood Press split-legged moonsault.

Winner: La Estrella

El Bandido walks into the frame, recapping his recent feud (including matches and post-match beatdowns) against Charron, Death's Head and Guerrero Muerto. His promo ends just as Guerrerro Muerto walks up to him, saying it's time face each other and end this.

El Bandido vs Guerrero Muerto

Bandido's high flying is no match for his stiff skeletal opponent, but when he tries to blend in some brawling, Guerrero Muerto is quick to grab a limb and take control of the match with his submission style. Round one is a closely contested bout, with Bandido winning it by the slightest of fractions. It is the same in the second round, with Guerrero Muerto trying to keep the beloved veteran grounded but barely failing to win when he miscalculates the distance between them and doesn't connect with his offense, an opening Bandido uses to hit the most basic of punches and take away the last of his opponent's health bar to set up the Hijack (Northern Lights) Suplex finisher.

Winner: El Bandido

Hyping up the final match left for the show, a video package airs to show Ángel De México training, hanging out with kids as a positive role model and helping out random civilians on the street, before wrapping up with his victory over Snake King last month that made him the Campeón de Mundo EMLL. The video then changes tone as it switches to a brooding dark scenery where Blue Phantom is shown meditating (or maybe praying to some dark power) before he explodes in a flurry of moves as he shadowboxes (shadowrestles? shadowluchas?) to show off his prowess.

Ángel De México © vs Blue Phantom

Blue Phantom starts the match with more of his ninja-style moves, hitting the champion with a multitude of quick moves that do little damage but certainly overwhelm him. Ángel fights back with a few big blows that level the playing field (or in this case, the two men's health bar status) before taking the first round with a big rana that sends the challenger flying towards a rough landing. Once Blue Phantom regroups, round two is underway and he switches his tactics in favor of a more fluid, high flying style. Seeing it as a challenge, Ángel De México follows suit, dropping his size advantage in order to out-fly Phantom. While this sure makes things harder for the champion, he is ultimately able to marginally beat his opponent and deliver the Mexican Death off the top turnbuckle.

Winner: Ángel De México

NEWS

  • Pyromaniac will no longer be working for EMLL as he was fired on the spot after attacking Luis Montero backstage before the start of Los Guerreros del Mundo. In it's announcement after the show, the promotion has made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated, regardless of who it is displayed against.
  • EMLL welcomes it's latest signing Fray Valiente Jr, himself a product of the orphanage the original Fray Valiente ran between his own matches as an active wrestler. Fray Valiente Jr will be making his debut in the upcoming Mortal Combat V show, EMLL's biggest event of the year.
  • EMLL and Aprendiz Jr have agreed to amicably part ways after the latter's contract expired and wasn't renewed. Himself a former Campeón de Mundo EMLL, Aprediz Jr leaves behind a legacy of solid performances and the man he trained as a luchador, Demon King.
  • Powerful Man has requested his release, citing frustration with his booking. EMLL has agreed to release him from his contractual obligations and wishes him luck in his future endeavors. After Powerful Man's departure, his former manager Delirante has announced she will from now on be accompanying Cyclops to the ring.
  • Contract negotiations between Chess King and EMLL have sadly fallen through, as the veteran luchador was called in to take over OLLIE after former owner Joaquin Soler retired from the industry. His decision came as a surprise to most, as head booker Phoenix was considered the most likely successor.

<strong>Lunatic (0-1) vs Fray Valiente Jr (0-0)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Lunatic's reckless style is no match for the younger but much more skilled Valiente, who displays surprising calm given his age and inexperience. Partially letting Lunatic undermine himself, Valiente wins both rounds with relative ease, adding the icing on the cake by showcasing his Valiente Splash finishing move.</p><p>

<strong>El Bandido Tejano (0-1) vs Rebelde de Anarquia (0-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Tejano comes in this fight as the underdog, being young and relatively unknown but he proves he is a forced to be reckoned when he not only stands his ground against Rebelde but also manages to win round one. Despite his momentum though, he can't keep it up and Rebelde de Anarquia manages to win round 2 for himself, taking things to the tie breaker. Momentum swings back and forth in a thrilling showdown, until Rebelde manages to lock in the Anarchist's Dream to drain what was left of Bandido Tejano's health bar and win the final round.</p><p>

Payaso Jr (1-2) vs Soda de la Uva Jr (0-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The camera zooms out to reveal a mock sedan car made out of tin before Payaso Jr and Soda de la Uva Jr enter the scene from opposite sides of the frame. The bell rings and the two luchadores set out to destroy the "car" in a silly recreation of perhaps the most famous Street Fighter mini-game, with Payaso using those trademark Blanka headbutts while showing reckless disregard for his own well being while Soda hits his usual high flying moves; flashy, but not that efficient in terms of time to execute/damage output. Obviously, Payaso Jr wins this one easy and hops on top to celebrate not just his win but him staying with EMLL too (<span style="font-size:8px;">remember the Mortal Combat rule Montero spoke of at the start of the match?</span>) by pulling his own hair in his best imitation of a Blanka victory pose, until something falls to the top of the now-wrecked car: a metal slab with leather straps around it. The clown had been cheating all along!</p><p>

Boriken Love Machine Jr (1-1) vs Cyclops (0-0) with Delirante</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Just like his previous match against Powerful Man, Boriken is more focused on flirting with Delirante than defeating his opponent. Cyclops makes the best of the distraction to easily win the first round, but that's enough of a wake up call for his opponent who switches his game plan to "beat Cyclops and look good enough doing it to impress Delirante". Once his head is in the game, Boriken's performance goes to the next level, whereas Cyclops and Delirante on the other hand seem to have some issues as far as coordination goes, leading to an easy comeback from Boriken Love Machine Jr who takes the next two falls to win the match.</p><p>

Death's Head (1-1) vs Zebra Man (1-1) with Lucia Valencia</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A pretty exciting match, largely thanks to the charismatic presence of Lucia Valencia and the contrast between herself and Zebra Man on one side and Death's Head on the other. For all the effort on the tecnico side though, Death's Head isn't here to fool around and thanks to a series of extremely stiff moves, he takes both rounds in rather dominant fashion for the win.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Death's Head</strong></p><p>

Delirium © (2-0) vs El Mítico Jr (2-0)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

First title match of the night and also the first to feature two men who have gone so far undefeated. Delirium's wacky antics, while fun to watch, are not that effective in throwing his challenger off game. As a matter of fact, they end up halting his own momentum and providing chances for Mítico to recover, meaning Mítico is able to win the first round, then the second to become the new Campeón de Histórico EMLL!</p><p>

Charron (0-2) vs Scorpion (0-2)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

It's not a title but the careers of the two luchadors on the line here, as each has two loss to their recent record and a third one here means goodbye. Something's got to give but neither man is willing to take this calm; as soon as the bell rings, they're both off to the races, with the larger, burly Charron trying to use his size against the nimble ninja. The few hits Charron manages to land take a signifant chunk out of Scorpion's health bar, but thanks to his great use of hit-and-run tactics, the wraith from the underworld manages to win the first round and drain Charron's health bar in the second with a dramatic application of the Scorpion Deathlock.</p><p>

Trickster © (2-0) vs Demon King (1-0)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Trickster's tricks are the name of the game during round one, allowing him to get out of a tight spot until he locks in the Stretch of the Truth to drain Demon King's remaining health bar. Showing a bit more focus, Demon King dodges the bullet to score the equalizer and win the second round, taking the match into overtime. Round 3 is dramatic and exhaustion helps Trickster play his opponent for a fool once or twice, but just before he can land the final blow, Demon King jumps back into things with a flawless execution of a combo that leads up to his Eternal Pain submission hold. Trickster's health goes down and down as he's unable to escape, until there is no more left.</p><p>

The Aquatic Avenger is faced with a proper challenge in Blue Phantom, whose skill and sleekness are a thing to behold. DeCipher (1-1) vs Guerrero Muerto (0-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Once again, DeCipher seems to be lost in his own maze, displaying unusual behaviour and extreme viciousness against his opponent. Once Guerrero Muerto catches wind of what's going on though, he easily turns things around in his favor. There's no way you can fight the underworld using it's own darkness as a weapon though (<span style="font-size:8px;">or something poetic along those lines</span>) so the approach backfires, allowing Guerrero Muerto to pick up an easy win with a clean sweep of two rounds to none.</p><p>

Sitting on a throne shaped like a cobra, Snake King delivers a sly speech about how he is not done with Ángel De México just yet. Soon enough, the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL will be his again...</p><p>

<strong>El Bandido (3-0) vs Snake King (0-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both luchadors are some of the best EMLL has to offer, so the match is of course exciting but it's also a showcase of where each man currently is: Bandido's on a winning streak and seemingly victorious over the underworld alliance of Charron, Death's Head and Guerrero Muerto, which allows him to focus on the match and nothing beyond that. Snake King on the other hand has yet to recover from his title loss to Ángel De México and that leads to him missing target with a few big moves. As a result, Bandido takes the first round and Snake King just can't bounce back once the odds are stacked against him; despite his best attempt at his usual mind games, Bandido defeats him during the second round as well, finishing things off with a Hijack Suplex.</p><p>

Ángel De México © (3-0) vs La Estrella (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

In this rematch from their January main event clash at Prueba tu Fuerza, Ángel and Estrella pull out all the stops in an attempt to wow fans and deliver the most exciting bout possible. Besides, this time there's a title on the line and both men are willing to go to great lengths in order to get the gold around their waist. Round one goes to the champion, but only barely, as he has little health left in his bar when he takes out Estrella. The Hollywood Luchador bounces back, both literally and metaphorically, in an attempt to stay in the match but his high risk style means as soon as Ángel is able to counter a big spot, it's only a matter of time until the Mexican Death seals another successful title defence for the patriotic champion.</p><p>

As for Charron, he'll sit out the rest of his contract working dark matches.</p>

The show kicks off with Bandido addressing the camera as he cuts a promo on long-time rivals Guerrero Muerto and Death's Head, before La Estrella walks in to steal his spotlight and brag about how he's going to beat the living legend tonight. The two have a back and forth argument for a bit, then agree to solve it in the ring later tonight and walk away.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="mwL0z0W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mwL0z0W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Delirium (1-1) vs Fray Valiente Jr (1-0)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

There's no question here Valiente is the better wrestler, but Delirium's unpredictable antics allow him to steal the win in the first round thanks to his wild offense. The drawback to that is the toll it takes on his stamina, leaving Delirium winded as Valiente tries for the equalizer. Yet again though, he falls victim to the madness of Delirium and the raving lunatic picks up the win despite feeling like he didn't deserve it based on his actual fighting performance.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Delirium</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Death's Head (2-0) vs Cyclops (0-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

No longer accompanied by Delirante after last month's fiasco, Cyclops puts up a valiant fight but just can't wrap it up with a victory as a brutal comeback from his opponent and a series of big power moves are good enough to decide round one. Backed against the wall, Cyclops looks super focused during round two, so much that Death's Head seems sloppy in comparison. Once again though, the big man's power just won't be denied and a big powerbomb later it's game set and match for him.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Death's Head</strong></p><p>

<img alt="ozLd3Bm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ozLd3Bm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

El Mítico Jr has a few words to say regarding his match tonight, what he considers a big challenge as he's set to face the former Campeón de Mexico EMLL. He knows Trickster will be hellbent on bouncing back and claiming his title instead, but Mítico won his title for a reason and he'll prove himself again tonight.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Scorpion (1-1) vs Payaso Jr (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Both men are presented with a line of target dummies and proceed to compete over who gets to hit the most of them. Obviously this is a "match" made for comedic purposes but just in case this wasn't apparent enough, Scorpion shoots his signature rope and spear at the dummies while Payaso Jr opts for custard pies instead. Scorpion's accuracy is much better thanks to his projectiles being a tad more aerodynamic in comparison, which has a jealous Payaso Jr hit him instead of a dummy with a custard pie. Furious, Scorpion proceeds to deliver a beatdown and leave the clown on the ground, coverd in custard as he walks away.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Scorpion</strong></p><p><strong>

El Mítico Jr © (2-0) vs Trickster (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Trickster tries to keep the fight on the ground but Mítico soon escapes to take flight and hit his opponent with a beautiful sequence of aerial moves that earn him the first fall. Despite the challenger's wide array of cheap tricks, Mítico appears to have done his homework and is always a step ahead, avoiding or countering Trickster's dirty tactics to win the second round as well.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: El Mítico Jr</strong></p><p><strong>

El Mítico Jr makes defence number 1 of his Campeónato de Histórico EMLL title</strong></p><p>

Sitting on his usual cobra-shaped throne, Snake King delivers a creepy promo on his promises of reclaiming the Campeónato de Mundo EMLL from Ángel De México but for tonight, he first has to take care of Rebelde de Anarquia.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><img alt="mwL0z0W.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mwL0z0W.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Rebelde de Anarquia (1-1) vs Snake King (0-2)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Rebelde de Anarquia actually walks into the scene once Snake King is done with his promo, meaning their fight takes place in front of the cobra-shaped throne which makes for a great backdrop. Snake King is relentless and takes the fight to the young anarchist who, for all his inner-fire when faced against a figure of royalty and oppression, suffers defeat by two straight falls before receiving the Snake-Bite to wrap it all up.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Snake King</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="87E3trK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/87E3trK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

DeCipher (1-1) vs Blue Phantom (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Justifying the hype surrounding his person, Blue Phantom takes his opponent by storm for a quick win in round one. His rush costs him the second round though, making him sloppy against the mastermind that is DeCiper who takes things to sudden death and round three. The urgency of the situation seems all that Blue Phantom needed to snap out of whatever funk he was in and after hitting some spectacular moves, DeCipher's health bar goes full red as victory goes to Phantom.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: Blue Phantom</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

El Bandido (2-0) vs La Estrella (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A match hyped at the start of the show, this one delivers on its promise of an epic battle as both men try to out-perform each other in terms of big moves, flashy flips and crazy stunts. Despite his age, Bandido takes the first fall and even looks to be in control of things for the second round until the frantic pace catches up with him and he slows down, gasping for air. Estrella sees an opportunity for the equalizer and goes for it, but a clever reversal from the veteran ensures he comes out on top to win the match at the end of the day.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Winner: El Bandido</strong></p><p><strong>

Ángel De México (2-0) © vs Guerrero Muerto (1-1)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Ángel De México has his work cut out for him against his vicious undead challenger. Muerto no-sells much of the champion's offence before taking him to the mat and through a long series of painful submission holds that slowly but steadily drain his health bar until Ángel finally powers out to hit a couple of big moves and win the first round. Looking to capitalize on his momentum, Ángel hits some high flying offense but Muerto smartly contains him on the mat once more to put the brakes and spoil the fun for the audience. Before his health bar can run out of green though, the champion makes his comeback and punishes Guerrero Muerto, winning the second round to retain the title.</p><p>
