From Rookie To Legend- Christian Faith

I remember like it was only yesterday, back in '85, when I first made it into SWF. Back then in the SWF the only people that mattered were Sam Strong and Rip Chord, although I can't argue with Richard about that one. They were the two most marketable guys in the business. Their matches weren't amazing, especially Sam's, but they had the charisma to carry the company. I still remember the two days, September '92 and August '94. The days that Chord and Strong left the company. Sam was just too tired of working the same guys every night, and felt he had already done everything in America. Rip just needed to focus on his personal issues.

I also recall the creative meeting, July 15th, 1993. When Rich came to me and said that Sam wouldn't be the one to take the title of Bruce. It was me. I was so proud, just happy to be in the moment. I never thought, in my wildest dreams, that I would ever be winning the SWF World Heavyweight championship. At the time, the SWF World title was the mecca of professional wrestling in North America, arguably even the world. That one title defined the fence between mega star and legendary. I looked at all the names in the past that have held that strap, Micky Starr, Dread, Corporal Doom, Rip and Sam obviously. I was in pure shock that my name would be in there.

SWF Let The Game Begin, October '93. Rich had been hyping this match for damn near three months. Posters, radio ads, commercials, everything you could think of for marketing in 1993, Rich exploited it. He wanted to make this the biggest match in wrestling history. The match itself didn't feature amazing wrestling, but we had almost 50,000 fans that were so hot for the match it didn't even matter. I told Bruce before not to hold anything back and make this match the best it could possibly be, and he did. We beat the sh*t out of each other for almost 20 minutes. When I got the pin on Bruce, it was an amazing feeling. For years I had always been overshadowed by Rip and Sam, I was always told that I just wouldn't make it, including some of my closest friends and family. The opportunity to prove everyone wrong was absolutely amazing. I just soaked in the moment.

Fast forward to '05, and I had been the SWF World champion four times, and I had still wondered why I had been chosen out of all the talented people to become the figurehead of SWF. When I dropped the belt for what proved to be the last time in January, I took a few months off just to let everything soak in, that for the past twelve years straight I had been the number one guy in North American wrestling. I finally got to spend time with my wife and Matthew/Matty, back when he was four years old and not one of RIPW's biggest prospects. When I went back in May, I had a whole new look on the business. I finally realized just how out of touch I was with the world. For the next few years, I really tried to keep in touch with the outside world, using every spare second I had to catch up on reality.

By 2010, Jack Bruce had taken my place and I realized that I probably wouldn't get another title run again. At first I was upset, almost angry that I had been taken over after all I've done for Rich, but when I took some time to look back, I realized that Jack was the way to go. Let's face it, I was 43 and starting to slip in terms of skills. Everybody does, although what I did was what everybody who is aging never does, and that is accept that you won't be the same again, that you will be used to put people over, and that you will slide down the card (Although that never happened to me). I accepted that, and although to most people it would seem like a demotion, I actually enjoyed it more than when I was on top for 12 years. I enjoyed my chance to make other people stars, even at my expense. After all, I had my time at the top and now it was time for other people to be brought up to that level. To me, helping Rich to make stars was the holy grail of my time in SWF, and to this day, I still get people thanking me for everything I did for them. I will forever be grateful for that opportunity.

After the Supreme Challenge 34, I told Rich that I wanted one more good year in my career, and that if I could have a good last year that I would be done by the Supreme Challenge next year. he accepted, and for the entire year the set-up for me vs Jack was prepared. That match was my favourite match I ever put on, just to be able to really pass the torch to Jack Bruce. The moment I went back through the curtain, I got a huge standing ovation from everyone in the locker room, even people that Rich brought in as a surprise that I haven't seen in years, including Rip and Sam. It was heartfelt, but I knew it was the right time. My body was breaking down, and I knew it was just a matter of time before it would break down, so I stopped before that could happen. I looked back at my 30 years in the SWF, and if I had the chance to go back and change something, you bet your ass I wouldn't change anything.

I really went on the down low for the next few months after I retired, to relax and finally let it sink in that it was all over, and that I could finally have a peaceful life. It was fun for a few months, but after a while, I started to miss the business. I missed the chaos in the locker room, I missed the crowd and the reactions. I decided that I had to get back in the business somehow, and I remembered how Rich gave me the opportunity to make me a star, all those years ago. I remember how I felt during that moment, and from that point on I knew that I wanted to give other young guys that opportunity. That is why, on New Year's Eve 2015, I came up with the idea that I would start Future Pro Wrestling, as a chance to give people opportunities to make it big in the business.

It is now January 1st, 2016, and I am back in the business, ready to start my next chapter in the wrestling business.

<p>(Monday January 1st, 2016)</p><p> </p><p>

Today was a great day for the start of FPW. I got a lease on a huge warehouse that I am turning into a training center and arena for our shows. I also talked to my friend Charlie, who also happens to run a full time film crew for our shows, which will hopefully go out on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as on FPW.com. After spending the first few hours of the day setting up the warehouse and luckily being able to get a leftover ring from Rich, I decided that if I wanted to have a show this month, I'd need to start hiring people fast. The first man that I wanted to go for was Xavi Ferrera. Xavi was undeniably loaded with potential, as well as being a great all rounder in the ring. I knew that Xavi could definitely be one of the stars that I based my company on. </p><p> </p><p>

I pick up the phone and dial the number I got from Mitch Naess.</p><p> </p><p>

"Hello"</p><p> </p><p>

"Hi, is this Xavi Ferrara"</p><p> </p><p>

"Yes"</p><p> </p><p>

"I'm not sure if you've heard of me, but my name's Christian Faith, owner of the brand new Future Pro Wrestling." I tried to sound professional, but in all honesty I had no idea what I was doing.</p><p> </p><p>

"Yea actually, I have heard of you before. What do you need?"</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

"Well, I heard you were in California for a few days and we need guys to fill out our roster, so if you need some extra bookings I would be happy to help you."</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

"Sure, when do you want me to show up?"</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

"If you have extra time these next couple days, you can come up to our headquarters and we could work things out."</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

"Yea, I can come by Wednesday. Is around 3 good?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Sure, I'd love to get you on the show. Talk to you later"</p><p> </p><p>

"Thanks, bye."</p><p> </p><p>

Throughout the day I talked to numerous people, all big names on the indys looking for something extra to do. I had talked to almost 15 people by the time I was done, and they all seem like they could be a huge asset to the company. The Architect, Frankie Perez, Fox Mask, and Ash Campbell just to name a few. </p><p> </p><p>

I had a few friends who helped set up the website as well as create posters for us. Everything was falling into place so fast, I just couldn't keep up with everything. I went home exhausted, but also super hyped for what the next smile on the road ahead is going to be.</p><p> </p><p>

Today was definitely hard, and there will be plenty hard days for me and this company to come down the road, but if I want to give people the opportunity to shine like the one I got, I'll just have to forget about it and keep going.</p>

(Tuesday January 2nd, 2016)</p><p> </p><p>

Well, I really don't have much to say about today. I talked to a couple more guys, guys like Steve Flash and JD Morgan, the guys who could be a great backbone of the roster. I always placed an order for our belts, including the FPW California Title, and the FPW Tag Titles. I started putting up posters for our first show and tweeted the news out to all my fans. I have high hopes for this show, and I am praying that we get at least some turnout. My only wish is that we don't go under after one or two shows.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

(Wednesday January 3rd, 2016)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I met up with Xavi earlier today, and he was asking way less than I was expecting. Needless to say, he's coming to FPW. I also manager to snag KC Glenn and Ash Campbell. I also signed Brendan Idol. Brendan isn't a rookie by any means, but he's one of the guys that never really got a chance when he was working in Rhode Island, so he's getting a second chance here. </p><p> </p><p>

KC Glenn is relatively new to the business, but already has amazing potential, and blended with his mix of technical wrestling and aerial attacks, it's just a matter of time before he gets his big break, so when Burning Hammer let him go, I was more than happy to pick him up. </p><p> </p><p>

Ash Campbell has one of the best wrestling pedigrees, being the son of John Campbell, AKA Nemesis, who I had my fair share of matches with back in the 90s. He is little like his father in the ring. He is just equally as happy trading blows as putting in a headlock as nailing a top rope maneuver, and that's what I like about him. He is one of the most versatile wrestlers on the indys today, and if he can keep in shape and have a steady workrate, he will be a huge asset to FPW.</p><p> </p><p>

We sold 3 presale tickets on FPW.com, so we will at least have some attendance for our first event, which I am calling FPW Future Blast on the 26th. I hope to have some guys coming in to negotiate tomorrow, which will help bulk the roster more. I look down at my list of guys I'm seeing tomorrow, and I leave the office, and when I say office I mean the old warehouse I'm turning into HQ, hoping that everything will fall into place.</p>

(Thursday January 4th, 2016)</p><p> </p><p>

For all the good days I've had in my life recently, this was not one of them. I missed three meetings because my damn truck wouldn't start. I got to the negotiations of The Architect and Frankie Perez. </p><p> </p><p>

The Architect is an amazing technical wrestler, he reminds me of Phil Roberts back in the day. Despite being 23, he already has lots of experience behind him with MAW and could definitely get over in FPW.</p><p> </p><p>

Frankie Perez is another guy who has lots of experience in the business, with his tours WLW and most recently PGHW, which limits his availability a bit, as we aren't high on the priorities list. Even if we can only book him once every few months, he is an absolutely amazing worker and will be a huge star in FPW. </p><p> </p><p>

The only sh*tty thing is that missed out on Fox Mask, Donnie J, and Steve Flash. I really wanted those three, especially Flash as I really need someone who has the psychology and mind for the business that can help some of our younger stars. Today wasn't great by any means, but if there is one thing I've learned from all my years in the business, when sh*t hits the fan, you gotta take it like a man and move on.</p>

Just curious (OOC), is this a way of covering for people not being interested in negotiations and keeping the narrative more varied, or what?

Also, I believe if you put and around your image URLs, the actual images should show up instead of links to them. (I love the GIF logo!)

(Friday January 5th, 2016)

After the past couple lackluster days I had starting up FPW, today went down extremely well. I wrote a short description about how I would use each one of them on the roster so I could keep my thoughts straight.

Chet Chavez is a guy who broke into the scene fairly recently, but no one has done much with, so I've decided to give him a chance in FPW. He likely won't be picking up many wins, but hopefully I could turn him into something worth while.

JD Morgan is a well known worker on the indy scene, known for his legendary DAVE fame. He may not be the same worker he was 10 to 15 years ago, but he can help pass on his knowledge to some of the younger guys, which will be a big help. He is a guy who won't lose his reputation putting people over, and that is what I need currently on my roster.

Roderick Remus is a guy I have had my eye on for a while, and it's a surprise no major company has picked him up yet. Roddy is absolutely loaded with talent and athleticism. You can tell he was born for this business, at even below 30 he already has the psychology to put on a good match that even some 45 year old veterans fail to compare. He will no doubt be a star, but if I can get him to the next level, I can help him transcend further into the business.

I couldn't believe how well the day went, we got Al's Pizza, the local pizzeria to sponsor us, as well as some other small businesses that want to help the company thrive. Days like this really give me high hopes for what's ahead. Hit the gas cause' there ain't no breaks, on this lost highway.

(Saturday January 6th, 2016)</p><p> </p><p>

It has felt like years since I have originally thought about this venture, although in reality it has only been about a month or so. I got the roster rounded out, with three more additions to the roster: Ernest Youngman, Dean Waldorf, and Marv Statler. These three (especially Youngman being a talented rookie) are three of the most sought after guys on the independents, so I couldn't be more pleased when they wanted to sign with FPW.</p><p> </p><p>

Ernest Youngman may still be green, but it has already been seen that his charisma even at this early stage could and will really propell him to something amazing in the future. His technical skills are matched only by the Ring Generals on the indy scene.</p><p> </p><p>

Dean Waldorf is one half of the COTT Tag Team champions, along with Marv Statler. He is supremely athletic, and a guy that can have a decent half hour match, which is what we need on our roster. We have flashy guys, but not guys who have the stamina to put on a good 35 minute match.</p><p> </p><p>

Marv Statler- Dean Waldorf, but better.</p><p> </p><p>

We got some sponsors, we got some merch sales, we got some more money, and we are rolling into our first show on the 26th. I already have some idea of what I want to do, but now I have to put it into motion. The stars are starting to align, and the future looks bright. Because after all, we're halfway there, we're Living On A Prayer.</p>

(Sunday January 7th, 2016)</p><p> </p><p>

I've seen a lot in my time in the business, but today was something I never thought would happen. The day had the same old routine, start my truck, heading to the office. I sat down and started browsing through the latest wrestling news on <a href="" rel="">http://www.totalextremewrestling.com,</a> like I do every day. Nothing spectacular was in the headlines, until I scrolled down for a bit, and let me just say I couldn't believe this was actually happening.</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="latest?cb=20180724222718" data-src="https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/tew/images/4/4b/Matty_Faith.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20180724222718" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Matty Faith, my son, RIPW Tag team champion, just released this morning. A part of me felt bad for him, he was doing so well in RIPW and then just gets thrown out for no reason. The other part of me however, knew that I would get the opportunity to book him in FPW. When I started this endeavor, I never, ever thought that my son would be working for me. Although he is my son, he should expect not to get pushed to the moon because not gonna lie, he needs some work. Hopefully the show can be booked soon, so I can prove to the wrestling world that I'm back, and I'm Back In Black.</p>

<p>AUTHOR'S NOTE: I have gone on a long hiatus as I just needed to clear up some personal issues, but during that time I have been able to finally catch up on my dynasty writing and from now on will be continuing updating this diary on a semi-regular basis.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>*AFTER THE SHOW*</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I remember the memories vividly, back when I won the SWF strap for the first time, everyone in the locker room at the time was congratulating me, saying that they were glad that it was finally my moment. Well tonight, tonight was Xavi Ferrara's moment.</p><p> </p><p>

I saw everyone in the back talking to Xavi, dousing him with champagne, free drinks at the bar, and it was just a great moment for everyone. It seemed like for those 15 minutes after the show, Xavi was on top of the world. At the age of 21, he had accomplished more in his career than some 40 year olds can say they've done. I truly felt proud that even in just one show, I could turn Xavi into the star of the company. It made me feel proud knowing I had given him the opportunity that Pittsburgh Steel never did.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I went to bed tonight knowing that I had a major star in the making. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

(Saturday January 27th, 2016)</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Of all the text messages and phone calls I could possibly wake up to, I get a text message from Mitch, owner of Pittsburgh Steel.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>*Faith, Ash and his father got into some law problems, and now I can't disclose much more information than that, but you won't be seeing Ash Campbell for a while.*</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I was in stunned silence. I had big plans for Ash Campbell as the head of the upper midcard scene, but due to him he has torn all my plans to pieces. I was so shocked, I could only say one word for the first few hours of the day.</p><p> </p><p>

Sh*t.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>
