Almost all my picks were wrong. Which match was the MOTN?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> First Thanks, I’m glad you are enjoying it. You would have done better but Kanyon showing up high for a month had me rewrite a ton on the fly and it affected a lot of things. Match of the night was the ME with a 86 overall, The Tag Team Match that opened the night was an 84 and Sting Flair was an 83. I will make sure to notate MOTN at the bottom of my ppvs going forward for everyone . </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> *Immediately following Bash at the Beach. * </p><p> </p><p> I’m already sitting at my desk when Kanyon walks in, his eyes still bloodshot and over dilated from his high. Foley shuts the door leaving just Kanyon, Arn Anderson, and I in the room. I decided to keep Arn there as a witness, and to act as what he has been portrayed as for years, an enforcer. Kanyon starts to stutter that he is sorry. However, I cut him off before he can get anything coherent out. It’s apparent that he is coming down from his high if not already off of it which is good because I need him to remember this conversation. I laid out a stack of papers for him to see. I then proceeded. “ This is six months’ worth of booking that our team has to rewrite because you can’t keep your nose clean.” His head dropped from shame. “Look at me.” He slowly raised his head back up. “ This lead to a Main Event spot for you, A big feud with Sting, we were going to solidify you as one of our most dangerous heels in this company.” I paused for effect. Then throw all the papers into the trash. “ That is all gone now. I have you under contract for another one year and eight months. It’s not going to be fun. In fact it’s going to be miserable for you, for a while.” “I’m not going to just burry you though, I’m going to keep you just close enough to taste what could have been. ““ Then over time if you stay clean I might revisit what to do with you. However, for now you are done. Don’t think about walking out and trying to go to WWF. My sister might hate my guts, but I still have enough pull over there to keep your ass out.” He nods his head in an affirmative. “ Now the choice is yours do you want to go to rehab or do you want to try and prove that you can do this on your own?” He seems to wrestle with this choice for some time. In the end he wants to try it alone. “The offer stands. You are a good person, and a great performer. Don’t let a little fun ruin what can be something amazing.” He nods. “ Your testing isn’t going to be so random by the way, anytime you appear on a show you will be tested, as well as random tests between shows at the managements discretion.” He walks out as Arn steps out of the shadows, it startles me a bit as I forgot he was there. </p><p> </p><p> “Was I too hard on him?” Arn responds “I wouldn’t have given him a choice he would have went to rehab if it was up to me. No amount of talent is worth the risk of a man’s life.” </p><p> </p><p> Arns words stuck with me the rest of the night as I worked to rewrite our plans. </p><p> </p><p> *Late that Night.*</p><p> </p><p> I rub my eyes the time is blurry in the distance but it reads 4:13 A.M. The phone rings. It’s Bret, it isn’t like him to call this late at night. I answer “What’s up Hitman?” …”I’m so sorry, no take as much time as you need. Look, before you hang up. The boys and I were going to pitch an idea to you. While this is a bad time it needs to be put into motion. I think I can expand it given the circumstances.” I pitch my idea to Bret about a yearly tournament. One that will give the winner a shot at the US title at any point of the year. We originally wanted it to be a tribute to Owen, he touched the lives of so many I thought it was fitting. Now, I just want it to be the Hart Family Invitational. Bret says he agrees but only if he can announce it on Nitro himself on a live feed from his house. I of course agree. He hangs up the phone as I realize that Bret and I have just gained something horrific in common the loss of a father. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <img alt="HqRsYtc.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/HqRsYtc.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Fill free to fill out your predictions for the tournament. I am going to run matches up until the PPV with the PPV hosting the Semi Finals and the Finals. I will be posting the next round of Nitro’s on the 4th which is next Tuesday. I might post a Shane McMahon diary post before then, if I get time over the weekend.</p>

<p>The end of summer is rapidly approaching. It’s hard for me to look back over the course of the last 3 months and really appreciate everything that has happened. It all started with a tragedy and one I am still feeling today. My father took care of himself physically and just like that dropped dead. It really drives home how you can be on top of the world one minute and gone the next. I’m proud with what we have done in a short time. The public reception is still a little negative on the brand WCW. It is going to take a while for people to truly trust this is a long term thing. I’ve read the dirt sheets and a number of them think this is a ploy by Stephanie and myself. If they knew how much she seemed to hate me they wouldn’t write such nonsense. The men I have with me are staying focused and they seem to have a breath of fresh air creatively. My father had a pretty iron fist when it came to how he dealt with things. As has been my reputation even before I took over here I’m not as stringent as he is. I have placed people in the company because I value what they add, I trust the performers to make good choices, and if they don’t then we deal with it accordingly. I know that Steph has hired a team of television writers to help her talent with their promos. I am not going to do that. I believe that the performers just needs time to understand and grasp there characters then they will be able to deliver greater results than a individual who doesn’t have an idea what it is like in the ring. </p><p> </p><p>

The roster is really starting to bloat with the addition of some guys from Wildside. I’m going to have to really evaluate the roster soon. I can’t give everyone enough attention if it gets too big. What I have to do is clear, but I’m not ready to pull that trigger just yet. Some of the people I had little hope for are performing very well, while others I thought would do well are floundering. I have been in talks with the networks about expanding Thunder to a two hour show. If nothing else than to get people TV Time even if it is a secondary show. It’s a good place for newer people to cut their teeth.</p><p> </p><p>

I did go and visit mom recently, she seems to be doing well. She says that Steph stops by from time to time and always has terrible things to say. She has told me she wants to see us get along again. I wish that was a request I could make happen for my mother. I have tried to reach out to Steph but she refuses to communicate with me. I let my mother know that I have no ill will toward my sister and am ready to talk when she is. She reminisced about dad for a while I can tell she is truly heartbroken being alone.</p><p> </p><p>

I feel like I have dropped the ball not truly developing anything for Starrcade, while we have a great vision, we really need to start working toward it. I want Starrcade to really help put us back and help to reestablish the WCW brand. We have been steadily gaining fans, both old and new to the WCW show, I want them to see us as a true alternative to the powerhouse my father built. </p><p> </p><p>

Before Hart Family Invitational

So, this is your idea? You came up with it all alone? I mean it’s very interesting. All be it a bit heavy. It does pivot you away from what we had planned. I do see the merits of it though and you did come up with a nice way to even wrap up what you’re doing…

I give a long pause to this conversation, it’s not uncommon for a talent to come at me with an idea for their character it is normally tweaks, a bit here and bit there. Not this, not a storyline that if executed will not only make this talent but will bring others along for the ride on both sides of the story. However if they stray and miss the mark it can really come crashing down. The path I have him on is a slow build to stardom. This has a chance to rocket strap him. He even has a few ideas, some that are surprising for others in the roles. My father didn’t make WWF a household name by not taking risks.

I stand to my feet and extend my hand. The man takes it and shakes.

We have a deal. I want to play this close to the vest though, I don’t want it leaking. For now this is on a need to know basis.

He agrees and he walks out of the room. I sit down and exhale deeply. The team isn’t going to be happy to be rewriting creative for Starcade again. At least this won’t change this whole show, just one small part of it.

Bret opens the show giving an emotional speech about his family and how he is proud that Shane has given his family. How this event will help to keep his family’s contributions and memory alive long after he is even gone from the business. He says he is proud of this company and he knows that it is the future of this business.

The “Natural” Dustin Rhodes vs. The “Nature Boy” Ric Flair W/ Special referee Diamond Dallas Page

Special Referee

This match starts off with flair complaining after DDP checked Ric but not Dustin for foreign items. DDP gets in his face and the two exchange words. Dustin and Ric lock up and the two start to put on a technical match. DDP calls it down the middle and stops Flair from cheating a number of time making Ric hot. Flair gets into DDP’s face a few times almost leading to a loss a few times from the distraction. In the end, Flair was able to get a low blow to Dustin that DDP missed and snatched on a figure four in the middle of the ring. Dustin has no choice but to tap and DDP is forced to call for the bell. Flair makes sure to make a show of DDP raising his hand in victory.

After the match Dustin pounds the mat and gets into DDP’s face point to Ric and screaming that he kicked him in the privates. DDP gets Dustin to calm down as Flair is seen laughing at DDP and Dustin and he exits the ring. Dustin continues to look pissed as DDP can tell he messed up.

We go backstage to show Shane talking with Straight Phenomenal. He tells them that they have been doing a great job, and he is proud of them. He says they are his first talent projects of his with WCW and he is glad to see that his faith in them is paying off.

Semi-Finals Hart Family Invitational

Kanyon vs. Rey Mysterio

UpQL209.pngZMRGwvy.jpgFM0NnNt.png

Kanyon and Rey put on a great match showing just how much each man wanted to win the first Hart Invitational. Rey was a true pro and still put on a great match and carried it on to something respectable even with Kanyon hurting himself early in the contest. Rey hits the finish and pins Kanyon to move on to the finals.

Semi-Finals Hart Family Invitational

The “Whole F’n Show” Rob Van Dam vs. The “Franchise” Shane Douglas

WLD6tS9.pngZMRGwvy.jpg03mSWJ2.png

Douglas and RVD put on another good match really placing the importance and desire for everyone who participated in the tournament to pick up the win. Douglas was in control for most of the match and RVD makes a comeback, he hits the five star splash and picks up the win. Douglas is pissed and rest of the triple threat slides into the ring and beats down RVD CM Punk and AJ styles come down and make the save.

Straight Phenomenal vs. The Triple Threat (Mike Awesome and Chris Candido)

O4W6RmP.pngZMRGwvy.jpgbzxA0qZ.pngftZS4hG.png

This Tag match was an impromptu match after they saved RVD from his beat down. Both teams showed good team work and went all out in the match. The match suffered from the amount of time we gave it but, it was all I could give them to work and keep things moving along. Straight Phenomenal keeps up there momentum picking up the win.

E&C are watching the end of the last match and are talking about how Punk and Styles look good. The Steiners walk in Scott says that no one looks better than the genetic freak. Christian mumbles somethings which makes Scott ask him what he said. Edge says that Christian said that freak is the right word. Hugh and Konan walk in and say that they are here to keep the peace. They all then hype there match later in the night.

Hart Family Invitational Finals

Rey Mysterio vs. The “Whole Fn’ Show” Rob Van Damn

FM0NnNt.pngZMRGwvy.jpgWLD6tS9.png

These two men gave everything they have, while the fact that both men were two faces did kill some of the heat with the crowd, the two have such good chemistry and the fans seems to have bought into the tournament and they still put on a great match. Both men hit death defying moves and a number of near falls from each competitor kept the fans on the edge of their seats. The match was a great way to show younger talent how to slow build a match starting small and hitting bigger and bigger moves and not being able to but each other away. In the end Rey hit the hurricanrana putting RVD into a roll-up pin for the win.

WCW Tag Team Championship Match

Edge and Christian vs. The Locker Room Leaders vs. The Steiner Brothers

ROUGdSr.pngZMRGwvy.jpgY4BsmOq.pngZMRGwvy.jpgYSUeO2M.png

The three teams all put on a good tag team match working together and showing great double team moves. During the match there were a few times that Scott and Ric had weird timing. Konan and Hugh did a fine job playing a filler team to help grease the two heel teams. E&C sold amazingly making every move look like a million bucks. Scott threw Konan accidentally into Ric changing the momentum and letting Edge spear Ric and pick up the win. Ric and Scott argue for a while but calm down as E&C celebrate keeping their titles.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Booker T© vs. Jeff Jarrett

WEnjHm8.pngZMRGwvy.jpgPc1Kisx.png

This match was hot and heavy, the two have had a heated rivalry dating back to before Shane got control of the company and it showed that they knew each other well with counters and wrinkles worked in to tell a good story between the two. Booker was just too hot this night for Jeff to overcome and after a Harlem Hangover Booker picked up the win.

Another video package is run and Dusty Rhodes does a great job hyping the match and putting over that from time to time a battle is so important is can even be more crucial to a company than a World Title Match. He hyped that Sting was fighting for the very soul of this company while Jericho is just wanting to make himself a bigger star and didn’t care about WCW.

“The Lion Heart, Mr. Canada, The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla, Y2J” Chris Jericho vs. The “Icon” Sting

SzaZ5Ng.pngZMRGwvy.jpg9g9GjiN.png

This was far and away the match of the night. Sting and Jericho had great chemistry. Both men went all out on this night trying to one up each other in their fight for the soul of WCW. Jericho tried to cheat a number of times but Sting was always able to overcome. Jericho had Sting in the middle of the ring with a wall of Jericho and seemed to think he had the match won. Sting was somehow able to power up and roll under Jericho breaking the hold. Sting and Jericho go back to battle and Sting is able to hit Jericho with a Scorpion Death drop during a round of reversals that just ended up with Jericho ending in position for the move. Sting hits it and picks up the win.

After the show I let Rey and RVD know that I appreciated them going all out to establish this tournament to our fans and for pulling double duty. I also pointed out Jeff Jarrett of all people for doing the job for Booker with no complaints. The show was a resounding success. The company was gathering steam and it was showing in the performances everyone was giving. The backstage was even starting to shape up and be a happy place to be around at least compared to what it was.

I got news that my sister went under the knife to enhance her um chest area. I wasn’t sure she needed to do that, but I guess if that is what made Paul happy she would do it. I now knew what she was doing with her inheritance I suppose. I was surprised she wouldn’t give me a heads up. Even though it is a simple procedure I would call her if I was going to have surgery you never know what could go wrong. I guess she really was still steaming that dad left me the rights to WCW. Even more upset that we were really starting to do well.

Konan sprained his ankle during the tag match, I was relieved to hear it was no one’s fault just one of those things that happens. While he said he could work on it, I decided to give him and Hugh a month off. They have been good soldiers up to this point and I wanted to reward them for that. They are truly locker room leaders and it’s good to keep them happy. Not to mention they have been doing a lot of Thunders and Nitro’s since we hold Thunder on the same night I could see some fatigue setting in.

Rey hurt his calf during his match with RVD. Pundits are saying it was Rob’s fault but it wasn’t, it was my fault. I made them both work way too much on this show and they got tired and sloppy. It is something to keep in the back of my mind for the future. Rey isn’t mad at anyone as his push continues. He says he can continue on the injury without problem. I have decided to let him do that. However, in my mind I am going to keep him in angles until I think he is 100%. Which honestly shouldn’t be too long and he deserves a nitro or two off from in ring competition.

In Sad news it appears that Bret can’t catch a break in his life right now as he and his wife have divorced. He put on a great performance and if I knew what he was going through I wouldn’t have had him out there. Then I have been told that sometimes working is the best thing for a man in these kind of situations. I reached out to offer him time off. He said he would prefer to work but did say if things got bad he would let me know.

WWF had their 2nd biggest show of the year and it didn’t even feature the Rock I’m not sure what they are doing Dwayne is one of their biggest stars. Austin had a great match with Kane carrying the show to a respectable night.

In good news I was able to sign Jushin Liger to a PPA deal to work for us directly. Though I think I will use him sparingly. He has his hands full so I don’t want him to burn out, and hurt someone here or abroad.

<p>We are coming up on Fall Brawl, I find it hard to believe that I have already completed four months running my own promotion. I am starting to get a feel for things. I let a lot of things just continue from what was “in place” Other than bringing in my Canadian Coalition. Now we are truly starting to venture into my creative direction. I feel like the boys are starting to do better in the ring as a whole in the company. I think that has a lot to do with the locker room cleaning up. With that I just hope that things will continue to snowball. We are making good headway. I was able to secure a venue for Starrcade. Even with it still being a ways away. I’m pleased that I was able to book this particular place. It will be a nice shot across the brow to my sister and her man. We are nowhere near ready to go head to head with the WWF at this point. It isn’t even something I am contemplating truth be told. Austin, Benoit, Kane, Undertaker, and Paul are all putting on amazing matches every time they step into the ring no matter who they square up against. So far they haven’t really come at my directly so I am happy building momentum on Tuesday. </p><p> </p><p>

As for my talent, I’m really starting to enjoy the tag team of AJ Styles and CM Punk. The two keep improving and are starting to gel as a team. They will never be as cohesive as Edge and Christian, or even the Steiner’s when they are motivated. That is fine. They will be good enough to rise up the ranks and be a legit threat to any team and will soon start to be threats in singles as well. Rey is impressing me with his growth as a performer. He isn’t Jericho but every month he is making strides at being a legit Main Event Threat, sooner rather than later. I might want to start temper him and O’Haire though. Flair, DDP, and Lex are coming to the end of there in ring careers and I want to give them a bit more spot light. Well at least Flair and DDP they did a lot of good for WCW in the past. In turn that helped the WWF. Steph can’t see that competition is key. If we are to compete with her long term I do need to start to set into motion some plans to really establish some WCW stars and get them under contract for a long time to avoid issue. </p><p> </p><p>

I have to figure out a few of the more minor details on the angle I was presented with. A lot of things about the idea where gold with some tweaking it might just propel us as legit competition sooner than I anticipated. </p><p> </p><p>

Mom is still having a hard time. Truth be told I haven’t spent near as much time with her as I should having to travel around. I have a great group of men around me so I do suppose it is time for me to take a day or two off and take care of her. She needs it and I’m sure she isn’t getting any comfort from my sister. </p><p> </p><p>

We are a family of ancient demons who draw our power from the very coins that Judas accepted as payment for his betrayal of the false prophet from Nazareth. Each coin embeds those who accept it with an ancient one in there subconscious. That Ancient one helps guide them, and strengthens them. You have seen but a small number of us. We are unstoppable, we are destiny. This is no nightmare you are all having it is reality. In time I will reveal myself the leader of something more. For now my brethren are paving the way for my ascension. We have come to spread our message in World Championship Wrestling, then we will spread out and continue to gain power and influence in this world. Unfortunately I had to send Kanyon and Mike Awesome to rehab. The upside Kanyon is now loyal to me. I just hope it will save him.

Stephanie released a statement on Thursday the 3rd week of October that WCW and WWF are officially at war. I’m sure this stims from the fact that I was able to sign a talent away from her. He wanted fresh legs I’m giving them to him.

Austin had another match of the year contest this time with Kane. The rest of the show was very lack luster though.

Jushin Liger came into me and asked if I would give him a break for a while that he is stretched a bit thin and needs to recover. I know that for a pro like him to ask he has real fatigue so I am letting him head back to Japan and stay there for a good long while. All I asked him is if WWE made him an offer to at least let me counter. He said he won’t work for them but makes the promise non the less.

I sit behind my desk as Kanyon is brought into my office. Tears already streaming down his face. He sits down and says he knows he is fired. I wait for a long time before I begin to respond. I shock him when I say that he isn’t fired. However, I can no longer trust him and I am sending him to rehab. He looks up confused and relieved. He says that I have changed his life and he will never forget this moment. He says that he thought McMahons were cut throat and cold blooded but that I really cared. He left in better mood than when he came in. I however, was still upset that drugs can honestly take such control on a man. I wasn’t done for the night though and I had a feeling my next conversation wouldn’t go as smoothly.

Kanyon walks out a smile on his face. Mike Awesome walks in and asks what I want. He is trying to intimidate me right out of the bat. This isn’t going to go well for him. If there is one thing I get from my father it is my bull headiness. I snap back for him to sit down and shut up. I don’t think he was expecting that from me. Up to this point I had always been pretty relaxed in front of him. I told him he failed his drug test and I was going to send him to rehab. He laughed thinking I was pulling a rib at first. I sighed and said I wasn’t joking. That I’m not going to let this locker room moral plummet because men think they can break the rules I have set up. I also say that the world of wrestling is changing and we expect our stars to be in top shape at all times and you can’t be in peak physical condition while taking drugs. He slams his fists down on the table and say this is bullshit. That just because I am a McMahon I think I can do whatever I want. I stand up and say that because I own this company I can do whatever I want If he wants to keep working for me he is going to go to rehab and he is going to come out of it clean as a whistle and stay that way. The two of us are standing nose to nose before he storms out of the room.

I am alone in my office. Papers scattered around and my head swimming with ideas for Starrcade. I’m starting to doze off when my phone vibrates. I instantly think great what can this be? It was a text from my sister. All it said was The War is back on! I’m not stopping until I bankrupt you. I let out a sad sigh she is truly out of her mind. WCW is making money month over month already. I’m not even clicking on all cylinders yet as I ‘m establishing my stars for this version of WCW. I thought I have done a good job showing that there is room for both of us in the world and there is no need for a war. Much less one that would leave me bankrupt and homeless. I can’t help but thank that Thanksgiving will sure be interesting this year.

[i should have Halloween Havoc posted sometime Tuesday Night/ Wednesday morning.]

General Diary Thoughts/Questions? - What are Corina, AJ & Punk's push? Did you get 'used too much' penalty for their 16-18 min matches?

Corino is a lower-mid carder and I got the used to much penalty for his matches. But since he wasn't going to resign with me I had to problem jobbing him out and getting that penalty. I was surprised the matches were as good as they were and is upsetting that he won't sign currently.

As for AJ and Punk they just reached Mid Card and didn't receive the penalty. I re-push after every PPV and then adjust if I don't agree. however, there pop is climbing pretty quickly. I don't post results to thunder but Thunder has been the Straight Phenomenal and New Free Bird show for a while. I also give a lot of Upper mid Card and lower Mic time on Thunder. so everyone's mic skills in the company have improved so far this year at least a little.

WCW World Tag Team Title Match

Edge and Christian © vs. The Road Warriors

ROUGdSr.pngZMRGwvy.jpgJOxHg8X.png

This match was hyped as who is the best Tag Team in the World. The styles contrasted greatly as The Road Warriors are all power and Edge and Christian are more speed and finesse. The fans got behind the match at it helped to set the tone going forward for the night. The story here was pretty straight forward Edge and Christian did a lot of hit and get out of the way moves until one of them got caught. Then the Road Warriors would slow things down and showcase their power. In the end Christian distracted the ref and Edge delivered a Low Blow to Road Warrior Animal. Hawk was laid out on the outside due to previously underhanded tactics. The ref turned around in time to see Edge hit a spear. Then E&C picked up the win.

We go backstage and see Scott Steiner standing in front of a WCW Halloween Havoc backdrop. He talks about how for too long he has been held back by his true potential. For too long he has had to carry his brother and be handcuffed by previous management. He says his handcuffs have been removed and he allowed to do whatever he needs to do. He says that doesn’t end well for the champion Booker T.

Now we get a match between Lance Storm and RVD. RVD controlled the pace of the match by continually moving and hitting storm with kicks, and fast paced moves. Storm would be able to gain an advantage from time to time. RVD would keep fighting back and picking up the pace. Lance Storm was able to get his knees up When RVD went for a Five Star Frog Splash. As RVD got to his feet he caught a Super kick from Storm. Storm got the pin and retained his US Title.

The announcers did a good job hyping this match up talking about how Jeff was getting frustrated and Rey has been on a hot streak. Throughout the match the two men played off each other well. In the end Jeff was able to get Rey into a roll up and get his feet on the ropes to add some leverage the ref missed and picked up the win.

This is a fast paced match with all four men trying to gain the advantage of the match. While it was fast, it was far from a spot fest as all four men also did a good job selling and taking the action to the mat from time to time and slowing it down when it was needed. In the end Straight Phenomenal picks up the win continuing their momentum.

SzaZ5Ng.pngZMRGwvy.jpgNqjCaEm.pngZMRGwvy.jpgyZW3Caz.pngZMRGwvy.jpg9g9GjiN.png

This was a hard hitting match between all four men. While Flair has lost a step in this kind of match we were able to hide what he couldn’t do pretty well. Sean O’Haire even held his own in the Main Event Scene. In the end the match broke down into Mayhem the ref took a bump and another came out. Jericho and Sting both hit big moves on Flair and O’Haire respectively. The orginal ref comes to and both refs make three counts. One Ref raises Stings hand in victory while the other his holding Jericho’s hand up in victory. The announcers seem just as confused as the refs hands hit at the same time for the three.

Steiner has Booker T in the Steiner Recliner but Booker refuses to give up. Scott starts to get frustrated and brings his pipe into the match.
