Women's Wrestling Alliance [Multiplayer, C'Verse]

Recommended Posts

Crusher Ichihara moved around and tried to make herself comfortable in her airplane seat. She never was able to relax during a flight and the seats were largely to blame for that. Her massive frame barely fit in and the inconvenience that used to be limited leg space had now turned into full blown discomfort, courtesy of her niggling knee injury. Her brain was equally agitated as it busied itself with the purpose of her long flight to Los Angeles. Daughter of the late Dayu Ichihara, a former BHOTWG champion in his day, she was born into the wrestling business and literally built 5SSW with her feud against Sensational Ogiwara. She was such a big deal, her retirement in 2007 was heralded as the end of that promotion’s “golden era”. And yet less than a decade away from the industry, here she was again, about to set the women’s wrestling world on fire once again, albeit from a different post.

It took several years, but someone finally picked up on 5SSW’s monopoly on the joshi market. The investors behind WINNOW weren’t looking to offer a wildly different product or directly challenge Ogiwara’s company, but they did have a solid business plan. Start small, but team up with other all-female promotions across the ocean to tap into a unique talent pool. That’s what she was heading out to do, meet the other participants, hammer out the details and forge the so-called “Women’s Wrestling Alliance”....

[The Next Day]

She had been called Miss Mexico for the better part of three decades. Technically she’d only been in wrestling for twenty-three years -- she was only forty one after all -- but she was in her third decade in the sport. A career that had started in 1993 in Tijuana and had taken her to San Diego. To Seattle. To Dallas. All over the globe where she had been one of the most prominent luchadoras -- one of the few. When Mexico only gave luchadoras matches on spot shows, she was grinding out a living. It was a tough life. A life that Maria Hernandez, “Miss Mexico” was incredibly proud of. She and Joanne Rodriguez had torn the house down for CZCW -- back when they still let women do their thing. When Farrah opened up Queens of American Wrestling, she had relied on Miss Mexico to establish the brand. Maria didn’t mind. In fact, she relished it. It was her big opportunity. Her chance to prove herself as a foundational piece of an organization. She had done so. Given her all to the company. Won their top title, won the Queen of the Ring tournament and then hung up the boots.

Now here she was, sitting in a conference room at a hotel in the greater Los Angeles area. Not here as a representative of QAW, where she had been employed for six years. She was here as the face of the newly minted Guerreras del Ring. A luchadora only promotion. An opportunity to challenge the status quo. She was here to represent GDR at the first ever meeting of the Women’s Wrestling Alliance. Catherine Quine from AAA was here. Farrah was here. Crusher Ichihara was here to represent the WINNOW organization in Japan -- the first women’s company to come along to challenge 5SWW in quite some time. Ed Monton was also here, the gruff Canadian bastard who was running the CWWF.

Five promotions. All women only. The goal was simple. Help each other flourish. They weren’t waging a war. They weren’t planning on toppling the industry leaders. They just wanted to exist. To provide fans of professional wrestling with quality women’s wrestling. If you like joshi-wrestling, there is WINNOW. If you like a mixture of modern wrestling with classic lucha libre -- there is GDR. If you like pure American style pro wrestling, there is AAA. QAW gives you the blend of lucha and American style and CWWF will provide the kind of solid work-rate heavy promotion that the Stones have made Canada’s calling card.

Maria ran her fingers through her bright red hair. Farrah had understood that she had to take this opportunity. The financial backers of GDR believed in luchadoras and wanted Maria as the face of the operation. They trusted her knowledge and her ability to drive a product forward. Farrah trusted that Maria wasn’t going to try to expand her reach into the United States and take some of QAW’s audience. This was a new experience for her. But she was ready..

The Diary: A multiplayer diary taking place in the Women’s Wrestling Alliance, set in King_Bison’s Titan Factory CVerse mod.

Meet The Players: DarK_RaideR. User Character: Crusher Ichihara. Promotion: WINNOW. DarK_RaideR is one of the most profilic diary writers of TEW2016. His diaries have been highly lauded and have included multiple Diary of the Month awards and nominations for Diary of the Year. He currently spends his time writing several diaries, such as the wonderful Piledriver Wrestling -- which has become his flagship diary.

Historian. User Character: Miss Mexico. Promotion: GDR. Historian is primarily known for his diary The Climb, which has become a fixture diary on Grey Dog Software. He has dabbled at other diaries but not found the success with them as he has with The Climb.

The Goal: Book quality women's wrestling in the Cverse. This is not a narrative-heavy diary, but our hope is that we can provide you with some insight and some entertaining women's wrestling.

Multiplayer seems to be the new hot fad of the day. This seems interesting, considering the obvious choice would have been 5SS-Dub vs. WINNOW. But best of luck to you boys.

Never noticed, but after you brought it up I wandered the forums and it is indeed. I'm hoping 2 players proves sustainable, because MotR, WIRE and our own GWC ones didn't last.

Shout out to Willr0ck for the WINNOW logo and titles, as well as all the re-renderers in the community. Historian is too kind to me in that intro, I'm just a guy with too much time on my hands and diary ADHD. He's the star and rightfully took home half this year's DotY awards, having me along for the ride is an honour.

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Konichiwa, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the inaugural show of WINNOW: Japanese Women's Wrestling!</p><p>

<strong>Yuko Okui:</strong> Fast paced, high flying joshi action unlike anything you'll find anywhere else!</p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Our show tonight is headlined by a five way elimination match to crown the first ever WINNOW Grand Champion, but there's plenty before that. Technical mistress Ginko Kuroda goes head to head against the maniac that is FURY Takasu in the semi main event, while two teams of young lions battle it out before them. But now, before our opening contest, please welcome the mastermind behind all this, the legendary Crusher Ichihara!</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="RxEndGj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RxEndGj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Crusher Ichihara's music plays and she makes her entrance, albeit without her trademark pale facepaint. After taking a moment to soak in the crowd's reaction, she heads down to the announcers' and timekeeper's tables for a front row seat from where she will be overlooking tonight's matches.</p><p>

Eri Sato, Sakura Sada & Rika Tsujimura</strong></p><p>

With a sparkling gown and royal demeanor, the cocky Thea Davis leads her gaijin team to the ring for the opening contest. The woman known as "the Red Queen" acts like an absolute snob towards the audience; Laura Flame seems super focused and ignores fans while the towering Deborah Young is the only one who bothers to slap hands away from her and growl at fans. Next out are their opponents, Eri Sato, Sakura Sada and the rebellious 20 year old Rika Tsujimura, who get cheers from the fans. Flame and Sato start the match with stiff strikes that have Sato reeling as she tags in Tsujimura. Making the best of her height, Tsujimura keeps Flame at a distance with kicks until she's groggy enough for Tsujimura to close in with devastating knee strikes. From the sidelines, Davis is directing traffic and orders for Young to get the tag, which she does. Now the bigger woman in the ring, Deborah Young dominates everyone sent against her, with Davis tagging in and out to pick her spots and provide a break for her teammates until Young demolishes Tsujimura with a Sit-Out Powerbomb for the three count.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: Deborah Young, Laura Flame & Thea Davis</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Sit-Out Powerbomb</strong></p><p><strong>

BATTLE BEASTS vs Nami Genda & Romi Yamato</strong></p><p>

Almost as big and muscular as the monstrous Deborah Young earlier, BEAST Kaori is an intimidating sight. BATTLE Takenouchi looks like she means business in her military fatigues and war paint, plus her short, stocky frame suggest a classic puroresu competitor: short, stocky, resilient, with a low center of gravity and a wide array of kicks and takedowns. Genda and Yamato look a lot less intimidating in comparison, but once the match is underway, Yamato's superior in-ring skills have her in control and carrying the other young lions through the match. Her explosive, accurate kicks initially take away the vertical base of BEAST Kaori before BATTLE Takenouchi jumps in to trade blows. Nami Genda's performance however is not up to par with that of her teammate and she ends up taking the pin shortly after the ten minute mark.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: BATTLE BEASTS</strong></p><p><strong>

"The Maniac" FURY Takasu vs "The Dragon's Daughter" Ginko Kuroda</strong></p><p>

Knowing Crusher Ichihara's involvement with WINNOW, the semi main event could very well be interpreted as a nod to her long standing feud with Sensational Ogiwara: the graceful babyface technician Kuroda goes to war against the savage brawler that is FURY Takasu. It's a clash of styles but even when Kuroda is in control, her style is fast and fluid, keeping the pace of the match really quick as she slides from hold to hold. Fans and wrestlers alike never get a moment's respite, the action constant and spot following spot in a truly spectacular match as Takasu again and again tries to connect with her decapitating Yakuza Kick while Kuroda struggles to grab her opponent long enough to deliver her own Dragon Suplex finisher. After nearly fifteen minutes of crazy back and forth action, Kuroda switches half-way through her finisher into a Dragon Sleeper hold and although Takasu cannot escape, reverse or force a break, she struggles for almost a full two minutes before defiantly passing out instead of yielding.</p><p>

<strong>Winner: Ginko Kuroda</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Stoppage</strong></p><p><strong>

Chitose Ariwara vs Ikuko Temko vs Jaguar Endo vs Lioness Mushashibo vs Rei Chikanatsu</strong></p><p>

The main event is essentially a showcase of WINNOW's top talent. The bubbly high flyer Chitose Ariwara, looking to restart her career after a series of ill-timed injuries. "The Mistress of Pain" Ikuko Temko, a veteran out to clear her legacy from the shadow of a steroid scandal. Indy sensation of the joshi circuit Jaguar Endo, with 19 years as a pro but never a contract with a major promotion. The pioneer of high flying women in Japan, Lioness Musashibo. The diminutive mat magician Rei Chikanatsu, now sporting a cute kitsune mask during her entrance. Five women, each with something to prove and a title to chase.</p><p> </p><p>

The match begins as a free-for-all, with all five ladies trading blows back and forth but soon the bigger strikers Temko and Endo send Ariwara and Chikanatsu out of the ring to regroup. Lioness Mushashibo is not that easy to put away though and despite her 45 years of age, she still hits a crisp, spectacular moonsault that knocks down both her opponents while earning her the applause of the crowd. From there, Chikanatsu crawls back into the ring and takes Musashibo to the mat, but a recovered Temko is quick to put her out with her dreaded Temko Pendulum finisher, a Torture Rack hold spun out into a devastating neckbreaker and Rei Chikanatsu is the first elimination.</p><p> </p><p>

Also recovered, Jaguar Endo taunts Temko into a striking contest and they trade chops back and forth for a bit until Ariwara slingshots herself in for a crossbody. The spot takes everyone down save for Mushashibo, who sees her opening and hits a beautiful Sky Twister Press to eliminate Jaguar Endo.</p><p> </p><p>

Temko is left to fight against two smaller and faster high flying opponents and for a moment it looks like she's winning this 2 on 1 fight, until she puts Ariwara in the Torture Rack. Before she can complete her finisher, Mushashibo hits her with a dropkick and Ariwara rolls with the momentum into a Victory Roll and the shocking elimination of Ikuko Temko!</p><p> </p><p>

The match comes down to Ariwara and Mushashibo, about sixteen minutes after the opening bell. As if they just started fresh, both women pick up the pace and hit a new gear as they fly and roll and flip and tumble, each countering the other's moves in highly technical chain wrestling sequences back and forth that have fans on the edge of their seats. Mushashibo then goes for a surprise roll up pin, Ariwara reverses into the Victory Roll and Mushashibo barely escapes before the three count with the near fall!</p><p> </p><p>

Struggling back on her feet and up the ropes, Ariwara goes high risk with a splash, but she comes up empty as Mushashibo rolls to the side just before the move connects! It's the veteran now going for another Sky Twister Press, but before she can launch herself, an adrenaline-fuelled Ariwara hops on the second rope and sends her off flying with a Sunset Flip, before floating over for the cover.</p><p>

<strong>Winner and NEW WINNOW Grand Champion: Chitose Ariwara</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Sunset Flip</strong></p><p><strong>

I’m incredibly pleased to be here. For years, I dreamed of this moment. It took decades of hard work before a major lucha libre promotion presented luchadoras in a real way. The 300 people who filled up the Gutierrez Community Center didn’t really know who Maria Guest was -- but they knew they didn’t like Diablo. Floss and Bizarro looked very uncomfortable in the ring with one another. Floss is a high flying competitor who cut her teeth in AAA -- a graduate of the Cat’s Lair in 2002. Fourteen years later, she hasn’t managed to make much of a name for herself outside of a couple of tag titles in BSC. Bizarro was getting her first break here for a name organization and the moment might have been too much for her. They worked sloppy and there were several times it looked like one of them might have been hurt. It was obvious that this was the first time each of these teams have ever teamed up as they both lacked the fluid tag team moves that are a staple of lucha libre. With that being said, neither team was *bad*, just neither team showed that they could be the top luchadora team in the world, but time will tell. Jaguar Queen was in very impressive shape and her jaguar-print get up looked excellent. Perez was the real star of the match though -- which should be expected from one of the women considered to be at the shortlist for top luchadora in the world. </p><p> </p><p> Perez missed a flying crossbody that opened her up to Maribel Mercado -- so called Marvelous -- to hit the High Altitude Legdrop. Vazquez had all the fire of a young tecnico while Saez -- short and thickly muscled looked like she would fit in in the rings of WINNOW -- or hell, even as the female counterpart to the Lionheart Funakoshi in BCG. Saez tossed Ivy and Viper around in the ring and really established herself as a powerful competitor, the pride of the Mayan descendants. Viper -- despite being called ‘purple’ actually tends to wear a pink mask -- was a blur of fast-paced action. She and Ivy did show some good team work in a match that they took control of and looked to have put away until Vazquez surprised Viper with a roll up.</p><p> </p><p> Catalina Vazquez and Ursula Saez defeated Poison Ivy and Purple Viper in 16:51 when Catalina Vazquez defeated Purple Viper by pinfall with a roll up.</p><p> <img alt="gUMXSOo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gUMXSOo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Singles Match</strong></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="J9NBi0h.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/J9NBi0h.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XWgjkPi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/XWgjkPi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="iGCuSNl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iGCuSNl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> Electric Dreamer versus Elsa Calvo</p><p> </p><p> Electric Dreamer is a star in the making. That much was evident from the crowd’s reaction to her. Everything about her screams star. Her white and gold costume, her bright blonde hair pouring out the top of the mask -- allowing it to whip around while she sells. She had energy and a natural charisma. Calvo, on the other hand, is dark and moody and brooding and was the perfect first-show foil for Dreamer. The crowd got on Calvo’s case as she pummeled Dreamer. The little kids in the audience were clearly behind Dreamer.</p><p> </p><p> Dreamer fired up and hit a series of big arm drags and drop kicks before hitting a beautiful Electric Blue Bomb [sunset Flip Powerbomb].</p><p> </p><p> Electric Dreamer defeated Elsa Calvo in 13:50 by pinfall with an Electric Blue Bomb.</p><p> <img alt="gUMXSOo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gUMXSOo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46665" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p><img alt="qIYQtpx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qIYQtpx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><div style="text-align:center;"></div><p> Estrella Blanca cut a similar minded promo as Queen Amazon. These four women are the biggest names on the roster and they worked like it. All four of them have held singles championships in their career and understood the big fight feel that this match needed to have. It was action packed with all four women getting the opportunity to shine. Amazon acted as the base for the other three -- who got to showcase some of their aerial skills at the powerhouses expense. The other three women got up for Amazon -- helping make sure each of her power moves look devastating. Amazon’s outfit, a gold and red Wonder-Woman esque outfit was especially impressive when she hit a springboard mafia kick on Celeste that looked like it took the blue-masked woman’s head off.</p><p> </p><p> Blanca took Amazon out and hit Celeste with a Northern Lights Suplex -- her trademark move -- and kept the bridge. It looked like she was going to get the three but Pink came flying into the ring with a springboard splash that landed right on the bridging Blanca. This got Pink a near fall before Amazon hit the ring and yanked her off. Amazon cleaned house and hit Blanca with the Amazonian Powerbomb [Running Powerbomb] and cemented her place as the first ever Campeónato del Mexico.</p><p> </p><p> Queen Amazon defeated Estrella Blanca, Mystery Pink and Águila Azul Celeste in 24:41 when Queen Amazon defeated Estrella Blanca by pinfall with an Amazonian Powerbomb. <strong><span style="font-size:14px;">WINNOW Brutal Vengeance 2016</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Week 2, February 2016.</strong></p><p><strong>

Venue: Hall of Nagahama [Kinki, Japan]</strong></p><p><strong>

In Attendance: 268</strong></p><p><strong>

Commentators: Hiranuma Makoto, Yuko Okui</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="a9HagOj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/a9HagOj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="tQ8Sd3n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tQ8Sd3n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Wecome again, ladies and gentlemen, to our second ever WINNOW show, Brutal Vengeance! That's just what some of these competitors will be out for after last month's Ground Zero, plus we have been notified that Crusher Ichihara has a major announcement to make after the main event!</p><p>

<strong>Yuko Okui:</strong> Lot of speculation what that might be and lot of speculation as to how tonight's matches might play out!</p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> What a great card it is indeed, we have three title matches in total for tonight's show, as well as the return of some beloved gaijin veterans to Japan and the big reunion of the almighty Seek & Destroy as Ikuko Temko is joined by Huntress Makiko!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Lioness Mushashibo & Nami Genda vs Thea Davis & Laura Flame</strong></p><p>

The Japanese audience may be unfamiliar with the two foreigners in this match, but it is no secret Laura Flame is the protege of John "Hell Monkey" Reaver of WLW fame who they are very well acquainted with. Apparently their opponents have a similar deal going on and Mushashibo spents much of the match cheering on her protege as she does her best against her rapidly tagging Flame and Davis. The gaijin do their best to cut the ring in half but the quick and agile Genda manages to escape and tag in the veteran Mushashibo to keep the match going. Though rested, the 45 year old quickly exhausts her gas tank and Genda has to tag back in to provide a breather. This time however, Davis is rutheless and she quickly overwhelms the young lion to hit her Flying Elbow Drop and get the pin.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: Thea Davis & Laura Flame</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Flying Elbow Drop</strong></p><p><strong>

BATTLE BEASTS vs Hostile Intent</strong></p><p>

First of the night's title matches and also a big surprise, the return to Japan of the Missouri Mauler and long time tag team partner to the notorious Gorgon, Connie Morris. She and Young almost mirror their opponents in look, size and style, though there is a vast experience gap and that's what determines the outcome of the match as the pressure of a big title match proves to be too much for the young contenders and Young hits her devastating finisher to flatten BATTLE Takenouchi for the win.</p><p>

<strong>Winners and NEW WINNOW Duet champions: Hostile Intent</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Sit-Out Powerbomb</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><img alt="EjdrcWN.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EjdrcWN.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Seek & Destroy vs Chitose Ariwara & Rei Chikanatsu</strong></p><p>

Another emotional setup to kick off this match, the long awaited reunion of Seek & Destory following Temko's expulsion from 5SSW after she was caught with steroids. It's a classic tale of big bully brawlers versus high flying babyfaces, with the added factor of the WINNOW Grand Champion being in the match, thus offering a chance at gold for whoever might be able to beat her. Once the nostalgia wears off though, it becomes clear that chemical abuse has taken its toll on the barely 36 year old Temko, especially as she tries to keep up with the fast paced style of her opponents and she ends up getting caught in the Blue Crab Surprise, tapping out to the much smaller Rei Chikanatsu.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: Chitose Ariwara & Rei Chikanatsu</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Blue Crab Surprise [single Leg Boston Crab, applied after a backward roll to take down the opponent]</strong></p><p><strong>

Eri "Strong Style" Sato vs "The Dragon's Daughter" Ginko Kuroda</strong></p><p>

Just like last month, Kuroda is nothing like the stereotypical slow, methodical mat grappler; instead, she uses speed and agility to gracefully slide between some impressive and painful looking holds, forcing Sato to up her game as well in order to follow. It's a spectacular and dramatic bout that ends a minute or so before the 15' mark, but packs the action of a full half hour epic, culminating to a huge Dragon Suplex with a lovely bridge for the finish.</p><p>

<strong>Winner and NEW WINNOW Rising Champion: Ginko Kuroda</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Dragon Suplex</strong></p><p><strong>

Romi Yamato vs Karen Bilous</strong></p><p>

Final title match for the night, the main event features another competitor who hasn't been seen in the joshi scene for quite some time, the tough as nails Ukrainian striker, Karen Bilous. Taking the opposite approach than the semi main event did, this one's a slow burner that begins with the two wrestlers feeling each other out as they try to determine the strengths and weaknesses of one another. This soon turns into back and forth grappling until a big kick from Yamato breaks things up. Unphased, Bilous dares the youngster to hit her with her best shot, before herself retaliating with a chop that echoes across the entire Hall of Nagahama. Fired up, the two ladies pick up the pace from there for the big crescendo of the match, trading moves, finisher attempts and two counts back and forth in beautiful sequences until Bilous finally manages to properly apply the Butterfly Lift-Lock, leaving Yamato no choice but to tap out.</p><p>

<strong>Winner and NEW WINNOW Pure Heart champion: Karen Bilous</strong></p><p><strong>

Maria shifted the cellphone from her left ear to her right ear as she moved through her crowded, still unboxed apartment. She had only just found a place that wasn't a hotel room and with all the demands on her time running GDR she had not yet really unpacked. Most of her things were still in cardboard boxes stacked against walls.</p><p> </p><p>

"No, it's been going good. I still have a lot to learn though." She said to the person on the other end of the line. Farrah Hesketh, one of her closest friends. A woman who had believed in her and made her the first ever QAW Champion when she started her organization. Farrah had not batted an eye when Maria said she was leaving QAW to run GDR. Farrah had encouraged her, been a good friend.</p><p> </p><p>

"The only problem I'm having is roster size. Trying to keep the roster small but not burn through the marquee matchups early on." Maria was honest. She only had a handful of women on her roster with matchups she was working towards, but two shows in and she knew she needed something to extra. "I'd like to bring in The Anti-Establishment for a couple of shots. Yeah. For real. I'd love to send you a couple of my girls in exchange. Let them get some publicity in America."</p><p> </p><p>

Maria listened intently. "That's fine. You can take Electric Blue and Venom. It'll be good for all four of them. Thank you Farrah. I appreciate it."</p><p> </p><p>

Maria hung up the phone and looked around her apartment. She had a lot to do it. So much to do, really. She sighed and cracked her neck. It was time to get to work.</p>

Maria Guest versus Bizarro

The opening contest was not well received at all. Bizarro definitely seemed off of her game and seemed to be a step or two behind where she should be. The spunky Maria Guest did her best to make up for it, but she was as green as grass and the crowd cared about her as much as they cared about their neighbors kidney stone. Guest did show some good babyface fire that should serve her well if she gets some more popularity.

Maria Guest defeated Bizarro in 8:05 by pinfall with a quick roll up.

La Hija De Phoenix versus Maribel Mercado

The daughter of the original Phoenix, who is still very green but the crowd really likes, and Maribel Mercado had a sloppy match. Neither woman were particularly on their game and it doesn’t look like either of these women really fit with the other. They went back and forth though and worked hard -- despite it being rather sloppy. In the end, Mercado reached into her boot and pulled something into her fist that helped her when she blasted Hija De Phoenix with a closed fist that the referee didn’t quite catch.

Maribel Mercado defeated La Hija De Phoenix in 16:47 by pinfall after using a foreign object.

Estrella Blanca made it very clear that she has her sights set on Queen Amazon and on the Mexican Championship. She feels that she should have come out on top in the four way. With another opportunity she is sure that she will become Mexican Champion and become the Pride of Lucha Libre.

The Anti-Establishment versus Venom versus Mystery Pink & Pinky Perez versus Vaquez & Saez

A big time four way tag team dance that featured the debut of QAW team, The Anti-Establishment. The match was good for what it was, but it did suffer from length. It was clear that all of the girls in the match were trying to go all out and just couldn’t keep the pace up for that length of time and it ultimately affected the quality of the match. It also did not help that Poison Ivy broke her leg, rumor is she’ll be out for almost six months, on a botched move from Catalina Vazquez.

In the end, The Anti-Establishment got the final fall with Pamela Rojo pinned Pinky Perez.

The Anti-Establishment defeated Venom, Mystery Pink and Pinky Perez and Catalina Vazquez and Ursula Saez in 25:45; the order of elimination was Catalina Vazquez and Ursula Saez first, then Venom, and finally Mystery Pink and Pinky Perez. The Anti-Establishment win the Campeanatos de Parejas GDR titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Mystery Pink was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Águila Azul Celeste versus Queen Amazon ©

The main event did not disappoint. One third of the Trios Champions against the Mexican Champion. Amazon and Celeste went at each other. They didn’t burn themselves out too fast, instead they took their time to tell the story of the powerhouse Amazon pummeling Celeste -- who showed all of the heart and fire that she could with two big comebacks where she pushed the pace of the match and showed some very smooth aerial skills including a springboard tornado DDT that was picture-perfect.

In the end, Amazon countered a hurricanrana attempt into an Amazonian Powerbomb and knotted her first championship defense. During the match, Estrella Blanca was on commentary providing some extra insight into both luchadoras.

Queen Amazon defeated Águila Azul Celeste in 24:23 by pinfall with an Amazonian Powerbomb. Queen Amazon makes defence number 1 of her Campeónato del Mexico GDR title.

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="RxEndGj.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RxEndGj.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Crusher Ichihara pushed away the stacks of paperwork with a sigh to create some space. For a second, she almost missed the simpler days of being in the ring and just trampling whoever was across her, until she attempted to get up from her office chair. The knee stung again, a sharp reminder of why she stopped in the first place. She didn’t mind the souvenir. Hell, she wore it like a badge of pride. Gold and glory come and go, but this would always be here to bring her back down to earth again. It was a small price to pay for the legend she had forged around herself.</p><p> </p><p>

She shifted around her apartment and put the kettle to boil. Ichihara was somewhat of a tea connoisseur and the situation called for a steaming cup to put her mind at ease. Running a promotion is hard, especially when you’re both the businessman and the booker, that much she knew before the whole WINNOW project came alive. It’s just that she never expected the kind of issues she’d have to deal with. The worries slowly started creeping back into her mind, but the wheeze of the kettle reached a pitch just in time to snap her out of it. Moments later, she eased back into her chair again, the teacup resting on the little space she had cleared on her office. She held the cup with both hands and closed her eyes as she brought it close to her nose. Cardamom. Ginger. Cinammon. Orange peel. Scent by scent, she untangled the bouquet in her mind as the vapors caressed the skin on her face, its texture dry from age and years of white makeup. It was an almost meditative thing. It was just what she needed right now.</p><p> </p><p>

The roster was a mess. Some of the young lions, especially those who had some exposure via 5SSW, were so popular they’d only agree to lose to the top stars. Some of the veterans were on the path of physical decline she knew all too well. Most of the gaijin, at least those who hadn’t toured Japan before, were nobodies and needed to be built up. Tag team wrestling was basically throwing stuff on the wall to see what sticks. The belts were probably too many for such a small roster. Then there was the Pride.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="hsi4Dbf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hsi4Dbf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<em>Inspiring leader or conspiring mastermind?</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Lioness Mushashibo was only 3 years younger than her, both in age and professional experience, but her body was clearly giving up on her. One of the first joshi competitors to introduce top rope moves to her arsenal, years of impact had left their mark on her. She was still over with the fans and could go in the ring, but for those who remember her glory days, Mushashibo was a shadow of her former self. She was brought in as one of the veterans, both using her name value to establish the brand and her experience to train the younger generation. She was a true locker room leader and great person to have backstage, but Ichihara couldn’t help raising an eyebrow at her expanding Pride of young lionesses. First it was Genda. Then they teamed up in a match to play that up and Romi Yamato noticed. Mushashibo was all to happy to take her under her wing as well, but Ichihara questioned the move. She didn’t give voice to her thoughts, but she wasn’t thrilled either. Romi was already primed to be one of 5SSW’s future stars. Unlike Genda, she held no loyalty in her heart for either that promotion or WINNOW, but she was well aware that she was one of the best in-ring workers of the latter’s roster. Something certainly felt amiss. But was the veteran building a clique around her to stay afloat, or was the contender to the throne using her to further her own ambition?</p>

WINNOW Strive to Survive 2016

Week 2, March 2016

Venue: Hall of Nagahama [Kinki, Japan]

In Attendance: 300 (sold out)

Commentators: Hiranuma Makoto, Yuko Okui

a9HagOj.jpgtQ8Sd3n.jpg

Hiranuma Makoto: Wecome joshi puroresu fans to WINNOW Strive to Survive! Two very big title matches tonight as "The Dragon's Daughter" Ginko Kuroda defends her Rising Champion title against the vicious Jaguar Endo! Also, Rei Chikanatsu, who's been on a tear recently goes one on one with "The Pain From the Ukraine" Karen Bilous over the Pure Heart title!

Yuko Okui: And neither of those huge matches is the main event, because that was saved for a champion versus champion match as the WINNOW Grand Champion, Chitose Ariwara, takes on the CWWF World Champion, Tamara McFly!

Hiranuma Makoto: Also tonight, tag team action as the promising young team of BATTLE BEASTS goes to war with Seek & Destroy, the legendary duo of Huntress Makiko and Ikuko Temko, as well as the Duet champions teaming with Laura Flame to take on Lioness Mushashibo and her proteges, Romi Yamato and Nami Genda. Let's go straight to the ring for that!

Connie Morris, Deborah Young & Laura Flame vs Lioness Mushashibo, Romi Yamato & Nami Genda

Once gain, Mushashibo played general as she led her young lion proteges into war against their gaijin opponents. Yamato and Flame traded stiff blows before Young took over. Genda was tagged in, using her hit and run tactics to stay out of reach and disorient her opponent while also utilizing quick tags to Mushashibo for some high velocity moves. Young was rattled but not put out and a tag to Morris brought the veteran in to wrap things up with a big Missouri Plough onto Genda for the dominant pin.

Winners: Connie Morris, Deborah Young & Laura Flame

Finish: Missouri Plough [Running Samoan Drop]

Seek & Destroy made their way to the ring for their match next, cutting off the WINNOW Duet champions on their way back to the locker room for an intense staredown, hinting at a potential clash between them very soon, probably with the titles on the line.

Seek & Destroy vs BATTLE BEASTS

BATTLE BEASTS may have failed to win tag team gold but they certainly impressed with their performance, leading to this high profile match against the veteran duo of Makiko and Temko. Big hard hitters BEAST Kaori and Ikuko Temko got the match started with some big moves, before Makiko took over for a stellar performance, almost single-handedly winning the match for her team and certainly providing some of the biggest moments in it, including the big finish of her forcing BATTLE Kaori to submit.

Winners: Seek & Destroy

Finish: Makiko Clutch [straightjacket Camel Clutch]

"The Dragon's Daughter" Ginko Kuroda vs Jaguar Endo

Kuroda's performances with WINNOW have been heralded by fans and media alike as redefining technical wrestling and this one was no exception: fast paced action and a smooth blending of submission holds, mat grappling, smooth transitions, intricate chain wrestling sequences and some devastating rolling suplexes, Kuroda really brought the fight to her challenger. That's not to say she dominated the match, far from it, as Endo is also known for her aggression, tenacity, hard strikes and never giving less than her 100% when competing. Fans were treated to an early candidate for match of the night, a true show stealer that eventually came down to stamina: Endo just couldn't keep up with the champion and paid for it by being on the working end of a Dragon Suplex that put her down for the count.

Winner and STILL WINNOW Rising Champion: Ginko Kuroda (Defences: 1)

Finish: Dragon Suplex

Providing a much needed breather after that match, a video packaged aired to hype the night's main event. This also served to introduce Japanese fans to Tamara McFly, younger sister of the legendary Sean McFly, former NOTBPW Womens' champion, regular tourer with 5SSW (before they joined the Modern Japan Movement and gave up touring) and current Canadian Women's Wrestling Federation World champion.

WINNOW Pure Heart title match

"The Pain from the Ukraine" Karen Bilous vs Rei Chikanatsu

Chikanatsu may have missed her chance to become the inaugural Grand Champion during WINNOW's first ever show, but she put in a great performance, one she followed up with victories over Seek & Destroy in a tag match alongside Chitose Ariwara and a big singles win against Connie Morris, all of which apparently made the matchmakers give her a shot at the Pure Heart title. Being the smallest wrestler on the roster, Chikanatsu had her work cut out for her against the ultra tough champion, making this the quintessential underdog match where the Japanese David went against the gaijin Goliath. Rei used her speed and agility to avoid Bilous and hit her with high flying moves but once the champion connected with a pump kick to put the breaks, it was all Bilous from there. Chikanatsu took a serious beating and was thrown around by a mean opponent, though arrogance cost Bilous the win as it allowed Chikanatsu to steal the match with a surprise cradle pin.

Winner and NEW WINNOW Pure Heart champion: Rei Chikanatsu

Finish: Surprise Cradle

Chitose Ariwara vs Tamara McFly

No title was on the line in the main event but having a clash of promotion champions was enough to fire up the crowd, many of which seemed to be familiar with McFly thanks to the reminder of her time with 5SSW. The two ladies began the match with a handshake, a show of respect as they circled the ring, sizing each other up. The initial blows led to a standoff, telling the tale of two equally skilled competitors, leading them to attempt bigger, more intricate moves. This was a classic slow burner of a match, constantly building up tension and drama for the big finale. Ariwara seemed a bit sloppy at times but besides losing control of the match once or twice, it didn't cost her much more and she was finally able to pick up the win, the two women once again on their feet and bowing to each other in a show of respect once the match was over.

Winner: Chitose Ariwara

Finish: Victory Roll

As fans applauded both ladies for their effort, Crusher Ichihara herself made her way down to the ring to congratulate them. Streamers flew all over the place and Ichihara was handed a bouquet of flowers, which she proceeded to hand over to McFly, ending the show on a bittersweet note, since McFly has already announced her upcoming retirement from the ring.

Maria Guest versus Concepción Gomez

Gomez continued to show why GDR was the first ‘name’ company to take a shot on her. While a solid enough hand, there is nothing about her that screams star. The protege of Farrah Hesketh worked hard, but she’s green and the two women just weren’t able to make it work in the opening contest. Guest got the win with a Flying Cross Body.

Maria Guest defeated Concepción Gomez in 8:53 by pinfall with a Flying Cross Body.

Pinky Perez versus Golden Delicious

This was Golden Delicious’ first match back since maternity leave. The Australian high flyer was clearly not ready to be out of the ring -- as Perez is one of the better luchadoras on the planet and wasn’t able to get anything great from her. Perez’ Pink Butterfly Powerbomb did look wicked.

Pinky Perez defeated Golden Delicious in 12:13 by pinfall with a Pink Butterfly Powerbomb.

The trend of underwhelming matches continued. Candy Floss and Jaguar Queen worked hard, but again this match left the crowd wanting more… More action, more something. Jaguar Queen dominated most of the match and ended up getting the victory after a blockbuster.

Jaguar Queen defeated Candy Floss in 15:41 by pinfall.

Bizarro & Elsa Calvo versus The Anti-Establishment

This was not originally supposed to be on the card, but due to a scheduling conflict with OLLIE, a lot of the luchadoras were not available so Bizzaro and Calvo, fresh off a trios win, got the first tag team title shot in an underwhelming match that was saved by Pamela Rojo and Hellcat Hernandez’ fiery personalities really had the crowd alive. Rojo hit a wicked Running Powerbomb onto Bizarro that really brought the crowd to their feet and secured the first title defense for the Anti-Establishment.

The Anti-Establishment defeated Bizarro and Elsa Calvo in 14:25 when Pamela Rojo defeated Bizarro by pinfall with a Running Powerbomb. The Anti-Establishment make defence number 1 of their Campeanatos de Parejas GDR titles.

Estrella Blanca versus Maribel Mercado w/ Vinny Cruz

The highlight match of the night. This was Vinny Cruz’ debut in GDR. His contract was not renewed by QAW, but clearly GDR picked him up. Blanca and Mercado took their time. Mercado, who looks like the heir apparent to Miss Mexico’s throne while Blanca looks like the most polished luchadora wrestling right now. They went back and forth and after several near falls, Blanca hit the Northern Lights Suplex and got the victory.

Estrella Blanca defeated Maribel Mercado in 24:29 by pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex.

Maria slapped her alarm clock so hard it came unplugged from the wall and skidded across the floor until it hit the opposite wall. She was tired and she wasn’t happy. She had not paid attention to OLLIE’s schedule when she had booked Inferno and of course half of her damn roster also works for OLLIE which meant half of them -- including her play by play announcer, showed up to OLLIE instead of her. She wasn’t upset by that. It was her fault. They had committed to OLLIE first. They were a bigger organization. Bigger crowds. More merchandise money. She understood all of that, but it meant she had to completely rewrite the show with who was there. It was a rookie mistake.</p><p> </p><p>

She was also trying to find out the best way to balance her locker room. Some of these luchadoras had egos on them that were hard to keep in check, but she did the best she could. A lot of her girls were green -- girls who had just worked some independent dates but hadn’t had anything full time. It was incredibly frustrating to see them underperform, but she also knew that as frustrated as she got she had to give it time. Rome wasn’t built in a day.</p><p> </p><p>

She pulled her pillow over her face to block the creeping sunlight from fully disturbing her sleep. A half-drunk fifth of tequila was next the bed -- it had been a hard night and she just wanted to sleep this day away. But her cellphone wouldn’t let her. The shrill of its ringing made her reach for it. She pulled it to her ear.</p><p> </p><p>

“Hello?” She answered groggily. She hadn’t looked at the caller ID either.</p><p> </p><p>

“Hello. Is this Miss Mexico?” The chipper voice asked on the other line.</p><p> </p><p>

“Most people call me Maria if I’m not on the job. Who is this?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Tamara McFly.” </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Wk7ovSy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Wk7ovSy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

“Tamara… I wasn’t expecting a call from you.” Maria said, sitting up in bed. She was awake now. She had known Tamara McFly for a long time, not known her well, but known her. They had worked on a variety of shows together. The Stones had brought Maria up for a try when McFly was still a rookie, in like, ‘99 or so, and Maria had done the job that night. She thought she’d done a good job getting the Canadian over, but she must have been wrong. They’d crossed paths since then. Tamara came in for a couple of AAA shows and even did a couple of QAW appearances. They’d worked together and been friendly but never had exchanged numbers or anything.</p><p> </p><p>

“Did I catch you at a bad time?” McFly asked. She was a very polite woman. Criminally underrated in the ring. </p><p> </p><p>

“No, no. I’m still just waking up.” Maria felt no need to lie. She didn’t work for Tamara. She didn’t owe her any explanations -- plus, Maria was older -- had been in the business longer.</p><p> </p><p>

“Well, I don’t know if you heard but I’m getting ready to hang up my boots. I’ve put enough miles on my body. I’m ready to be done.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Sure. I’ve heard.” Maria said as she reached for the bottle of tequila. It was better than nothing. She took a swig and grimaced. Probably a bad idea.</p><p> </p><p>

“I’ve worked for every major women’s promotion in the world. I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do, but I’ve never worked Mexico. I’d like to before I retire.”</p><p> </p><p>

“You want to work Mexico?” Maria asked with a smile on her face. “Tamara, I’d love to use you for a show.”</p><p> </p><p>

“That’s all I’m asking. One show. I’ll do the favors for one of your heels -- or rudos -- or whatever. I just want to cross that off my bucket list.”</p><p> </p><p>

Maria nodded. “Of course. Let me look at my schedule and get back to you with a solid date.” She could almost feel Tamara nodding her head on the other end.</p><p> </p><p>

“I can’t wait.”</p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to WINNOW Slam Fest 2016! It's another exciting show tonight, featuring the return to Japan of one of the most prominent foreign stars, AAA's Joanne Rodriguez!</p><p>

<strong>Yuko Okui:</strong> She will be taking on Romi Yamato in tonight's main event, but I'm also excited to see Queens of the Jungle, Lioness Mushashibo and Jaguar Endo go to war against the high flying, fan favorite champions, Chitose Ariwara and Rei Chikanatsu!</p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> The WINNOW Duet titles will also be on the line as champions Connie Morris and Deborah Young, now calling themselves Hostile Intent, face their greatest challenge yet in Seek & Destroy, the decorated tag team of Huntress Makiko and Ikuko Temko!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BATTLE BEASTS vs Rika Tsujimura & Nami Genda</strong></p><p>

Tag team action to kick things off and all four young lions showcased energy and excitement in the ring. Genda's guerrila style and Tsujimura's long limbs did a great job of keeping the Middleweight BEAST Kaori at a safe distance. It wasn't the same though once BATTLE Takenouchi got he tag and she used her judo background to grab Tsujimura's limb and take her to the mat for a beatdown, with Kaori coming back in to simply finish things off with authority.</p><p>

<strong>Eri Sato, FURY Takasu & Sakura Sada vs Karen Bilous, Thea Davis & Laura Flame</strong></p><p>

Another typical undercard multi-woman tag match here as the gaijin team sought to make a name for themselves at the expense of their opponents. A strike-heavy match, this was occasionally broken up by Sada's high flying moves and the European technical touch of Davis, though the end saw Sato hit Flame with a Buzzsaw Kick for a simple but effective finish to the match.</p><p>

Hostile Intent vs Seek & Destroy</strong></p><p>

Ever since reuniting in WINNOW, Seek & Destroy seemed primed to compete for the Duet titles. After picking up a few wins, they finally made their move at Strive to Survive, issuing a challenge to Hostile Intent. Makiko was the difference maker in this bout, her precision grappling adding variety as well as wearing down her big brawling opponents, though having Temko on her side to dish out equal punishment with strikes certainly helped. Despite her relative inexperience, Deborah Young held up pretty good in this bout and showed her opponents how wrong they were to underestimate her, especially in the finish where she knocked Makiko off the apron to tag in her partner, who in turn hit the worn out and alone Temko with a Missouri Plough, successfuly keeping the gold around the waists of Hostile Intent. After the match, Makiko seemed very disappointed with her partner, who visibly had her mind someplace else throughout the fight and their argument almost came to blows, but the young lions at ringside were quick to get in the way and break it up.</p><p>

Queens of the Jungle vs Chitose Ariwara & Rei Chikanatsu</strong></p><p>

Both title holders and both likeable high flyers with bubblegum personalities, Ariwara and Chikanatsu teamed up for a match against Queens of the Jungle, the team of Lioness Mushashibo and Jaguar Endo. It was interesting to see the two teams working together, especially Mushashibo's high flying complementing Endo's vicious strikes, a combination that had them on the attacking side for most of the match. Ariwara and Chikanatsu had their moments, made their comebacks but just couldn't keep things rolling for them long enough to claim victory and eventually Mushashibo hit her finisher on Ariwara for the pin, scoring not only a major victory but also earning her the right to challenge the champion for the WINNOW Grand Champion title.</p><p>

<strong>Joanne Rodriguez vs Romi Yamato</strong></p><p>

Announced and hyped during the latest installment of Neon Genesis Evolution, Joanne Rodriguez made an appearance to wrestle the marquee match against hot prospect Romi Yamato. Japanese fans are already familiar with the AAA star thanks to her work with 5SSW in the past so they gave her a warm welcome, unlike Yamato who acted disrespectfully. For her antics, Yamato got chopped to the corner to start the match, with Rodriguez topping it off with a superkick and a two count, an early warning sign for Yamato to take this very, very seriously. What followed was a jaw dropping match full of flashy moves, flips, rolls and dives that had the fans on their feet as the two women really drove home the point that for all the strong style and grappling, WINNOW is, at its heart, a promotion of fast paced, energetic, high flying action. Yamato went toe to toe with the veteran, never backing down and showing she can roll with the best of them, though she never managed to complete any attempts at her cross-arm bridging german suplex finisher, which she calls the Yamatotal. Instead, she fell victim to J-Ro's own, wrapping up the match at just under fifteen minutes with a win in her WINNOW debut.</p><p>

After her win, Rodriguez got on the mic to thank the audience, her opponent as well as WINNOW and the Women's Wrestling Alliance for making this a reality, for allowing her to work in Japan once more. J-Ro said she's not here for just a few dates but has her eyes on November's Joshi Royalty Summit tournament, ending her promo on a high note and sending the fans home happy.</p><p>
