Haniko Iseya, Fuyuko Uoya and Romi Yamato versus Bizarro, Golden Delicious and Tomoko Nagatsuka

The opening contest of this show pit three Joshi workers from WINNOW who were announced as being here in GDR for the time being against three veterans of the GDR roster. It was a simple match up just designed to get the crowd ready for the show and it did its job in that regards. The three WINNOW girls are all young with Yamato being the oldest at 24 and and the rookie Uoya at the ripe age of 17. Uoya is clearly green as grass. Iseya looked especially good in this match, by design, the only graduate of WINNOW’s dojo system, it was clear that GDR is helping their ally establish her as a credible wrestler on both sides of the Pacific.

Nagatsuka carried her team. Bizzaro was off her game and slipped on several spots that the normally fairly-fluid luchadora would not have slipped. Yamato, the reigning WINNOW Rising Champion hit a beautiful dive to the outside on Bizzaro and Delicious while at the same time Iseya came off the top rope with an elbow drop that looked like it killed Nagatsuka. Iseya got the pinfall victory and the win for her trio.

In a poor match, Haniko Iseya, Fuyuko Uoya and Romi Yamato defeated Bizarro, Golden Delicious and Tomoko Nagatsuka in 12:17 when Haniko Iseya defeated Tomoko Nagatsuka by pinfall with a Top Rope Elbow.

Fuyuko Uoya was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Amy Galaxy versus Rina Kasahara

The experienced former Babe of Sin City wrestler had her hands full with the young Japanese woman on excursion. Kasahara is clearly getting pushed here in GDR to make full use of her excursion and give her all the experience necessary for what is the assumed return to Japan and employment by WINNOW. Galaxy isn’t a very good wrestler and Kasahara is young and the timing in this match up was all over the place. It was saved by a Spinning Back Fist that landed flush on Galaxy’s temple and got Kasahara the pinfall victory.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Rina Kasahara defeated Amy Galaxy in 6:30 by pinfall with a Spinning Back Fist.

Candy Floss versus Francisca Ramos

Another vet-versus-youngster match up. Ramos is the only graduate of the GDR school for luchadoras and is being positioned to be an up and coming rudo and a homegrown star. Floss is another BSC who has kind of floated around the card without much meaning. She did her best to make Ramos look good here, but again, Floss is past her best days and Ramos is still wet behind the ears but her Corkscrew Splash is beautiful and she got the big singles win here.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, Francisca Ramos defeated Candy Floss in 8:53 by pinfall with a Corkscrew Splash.

Águila Azul Celeste versus “Marvelous” Maribel Mercado w/ Vinny Cruz

Celeste and Mercado had the first really competitive match up of the night. Celeste is former Tag and Trios Champion in GDR -- as well as a former champion in OLLIE and Mercado, one half of the current GDR Tag champions with her second partner has been one of the bright young stars of GDR. They had a good back and forth match, with lots of action and no one really dominating the match. Celeste got tossed off the top rope by Vinny Cruz which provided Mercado the opportunity to hit the High Altitude Legdrop and get a big singles win.

In a decent match, Maribel Mercado defeated Águila Azul Celeste in 8:49 by pinfall with a High Altitude Legdrop after Vinny Cruz interfered.

The Queens of the Damned came to the ring before their match. Amazon is angry she lost her championship, the championship she has put on the mat but she and La Hija Del Diablo are going to now get refocused and come after every championship in GDR so that the Queen can prove that she is by far the most valuable luchadora in all of the world.

Guest & Taylor w/ Lucia Valiente versus The Queens of the Damned

The former tag team champions who have been on a bit of a slide recently, losing the belts and having lost their most recent outing. Now they had a very tough contest against the Queens of the Damned. This was a good match that featured a lot of good tag team action and like normal, Queen Amazon was the star of the match. In the year and a half that GDR has been open, Amazon has far and away been the best performer and this was no different. She’s already the most decorated luchadora in history and is looking to rebound from losing the Mexican Championship.

Maria took a wicked suplex from Queen Amazon from the ring apron to the floor that opened up Diablo to hit her patented Diablo Driver on Sarah Taylor and the Queens of the Damned got a huge victory.

In a decent match, The Queens of the Damned defeated Guest & Taylor in 21:43 when La Hija Del Diablo defeated Sarah Taylor by pinfall with a Diablo Driver.

In terms of in-ring work, Queen Amazon was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Breaking news coming out of Guerreras Del Ring. GDR has come to terms for the release of Amy Galaxy, Bizarro, Candy Floss, Selina Svelte, Golden Delicious and Joanna Silver. This was listed as a cost cutting move as well as freeing up roster spaces for new talents. GDR wishes them well in their future endeavors.

Amber Allen has also decided to focus solely on her CWWF career. CWWF is another member of the WWA and as the CWWF's Canadian Champion, she has decided to focus just on her career there. We wish her the best and can't wait for her to come back to GDR as a CWWF representative.

More breaking news from Guerreras del Ring. Announcer Humberto Tortega is being released at the broadcast booth. This is said to be both financially motivated (Tortega is not cheap) and to accommodate the fact that Mr. Tortega is OLLIE's lead broadcaster. GDR wants to create its own identity at the broadcast booth. He is being replaced, ironically, by former OLLIE announcer Ignacio Soto. Luchadora Original will continue to serve as the color analyst.

Guerreras del Ring have also announced the official signings of Hellcat Hernandez, Sophia Carpenter and Margarita Ibanez. Hernandez is a former GDR Tag Team Champion with her partner Pamela Rojo and has also recently finished up all of her commitments with QAW. Carpenter is a graduate of the Supreme Wrestling University. The native of Colorado traces her roots back to Mexico and since SWF does not offer women's wrestling, Ms. Carpenter has come to GDR. Margarita Ibanez is a graduate of the WWA:Mexico training facility and looks to be a bright prospect in the world of lucha libre.

<strong>Thea Davis, Claire Winters and Laura Flame vs Mystery Pink, Estrella Blanca and Velvet Suarez</strong></p><p>

The show began with an all-gaijin 3vs3 match, where the masked GDR luchadoras took on the mask-less but hard hitting trio of Davis, Winters and Flame. Fan support felt split, though slightly in favor of Davis, Winters and Flame who the WINNOW crowd are more familiar with and after a decent back and forth bout, Winters got the pin over Suarez.</p><p>

Rei Chikanatsu, Rika Tsujimura and Yu Hashimoto vs Romi Yamato, Ginko Kuroda and Asami Okubo</strong></p><p>

Moving on, the following matchup had a good mix of technique and physicality on both sides, best showcased during the Chikanatsu-Kuroda chain wrestling sequences and the stiff striking exchange between Hashimoto and Yamato. This was also a good chance for young lions Tsujimura and Okubo to show what they can do next to the veterans and they did not disappoint, although the finish saw Chikanatsu stake her claim for a shot at Yamato’s Rising Champion title as she pulled the Blue Crab Surprise out of nowhere for a shocking submission.</p><p>

Faith McGee, Ariel Breaks and Queen Amazon vs Ochiyo Iijima, Nami Genda and Akuro Shionoya</strong></p><p>

What the prior match lacked was some exciting high flying and that’s what the last of the undercard matches brought, although Queen Amazon and Iijima still brought the heavy hitting moves to the mix. The GDR standout had an impressive performance, both mauling her young lion opponents and trading big blows with Iijima, but it was Faith McGee who had the last laugh when she held Iijima down with a Flying Cross Body to earn herself a shot at the Pure Heart title.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: Faith McGee, Ariel Breaks and Queen Amazon</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: Flying Cross Body</strong></p><p><strong>

BATTLE BEASTS vs Team Endorphine</strong></p><p>

With Maki Yoshifumi sidelined for over a year after Houston Handley broke her neck, it was finally time to vacate the titles and hold a match to crown the new tag team champions. With teams like the Missouri Bruisers and Hunter-Killers no longer around, it boiled down to the experienced pairing of BATTLE BEASTS versus the natural understanding between Jaguar Endo and Emiko Miyoshi. The veteran Endo began the match trading blows with BATTLE Takenouchi, but once BEAST Kaori got the tag, Endo found herself cut off from her corner and repeatedly beaten. Able to gather her wits against the passionate young lions, Endo created and opening for herself and tagged in the energetic, high flying Miyoshi. The hot tag got a good fan reaction, as did Miyoshi’s offensive outburst, but it didn’t take long before Kaori used her freakish power to hit the brakes and drive her opponent to the mat, with Takenouchi taking over for the finish and a double team Sit-Out Powerbomb that led to the pin while Kaori blocked Endo from breaking up the cover.</p><p>

Joanne Rodriguez © vs Eri Sato</strong></p><p>

Those unfamiliar with the “junior” style often mistake it for a high flying spotfest, much like lucha libre, due to the competitors’ size but it’s so much more than that and this match was a classic example, a textbook showcase of the athleticism, physicality and fast pace involved. Sato’s wide array of stiff, scything kicks opened the match with a sense of urgency, as she tried to take away the champion’s mobility as well as her high flying offense. Rodriguez was forced to use a more cerebral approach to fight back, a wonderful mix of technical wrestling, mat grappling and slick transitions that still was delivered at a breakneck pace. Sato also had to adapt and responded with some spectacular suplexes to prove she’s no slouch either when it comes to the technical aspect in the ring, including a big spot where she tossed J-Ro to the corner, only for Rodriguez to block it by landing on the middle rope and bouncing back for a senton. This was the turning point that saw Rodriguez start going for bigger moves in an attempt to finish the match, all the while dodging Sato’s Buzzsaw Kick attempts. Eventually, the pace took a toll on both competitors once the match went past the 15th minute and as soon as things showed a hint of slowing down, Rodriguez went straight to the J-Rocker to end it and retain.</p><p>

<strong>Winner: Joanne Rodriguez [Defenses:2]</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: J-Rocker [Front Facelock Face Crusher]</strong></p><p>

I want to give a special shoutout to my good friend Togg who helped me make a brand spanking new roster layout and provided some valuable feedback. Show Togg a little love and hopefully I'll have GDR's next show up tomorrow [Friday] so that DarK_RaideR can get to his. Both of us are getting back in the swing of things after the holidays. Thank you for bearing with us.

Hiranuma Makoto: Hello fans of WINNOW, live from the sold out Hall of Nagahama, the temperature is rising and things are heating up as we get ready to begin tonight's show, Summer Rage 2017!

Yuko Okui: Rage indeed, with every match involving some sort of personal rivalry in it. Hello from me as well, Yuko Okui here providing commentary alongside Hiranuma Makoto as usual.

Hiranuma Makoto: Two title matches, two matches involving title holders and their designated challengers, a grudge match all the way from Mexico and much more, it all starts now!

Nami Genda, Rika Tsujimura, Akuro Shionoya and Asami Okubo vs Claire Winters, Laura Flame, Estrella Blanca and Velvet Suarez

A pretty standard multi-woman tag match to kick off the show, this one featured a bunch of young lions, as well as the veteran Estrella Blanca who led most of the match. Unfortunately, she was unable to also lead her gaijin team to victory despite them being the slightly better wrestlers all around, as Rika Tsujimura got a lucky opening to hit Velvet Suarez with a Running Knee Bomb and get the pin

Winners: Nami Genda, Rika Tsujimura, Akuro Shionoya and Asami Okubo

Finish: Running Knee Bomb

Ginko Kuroda and BATTLE BEASTS vs Team Endorphine and Hoshiko Tagawa

A similar case in the following six woman match, with Ginko Kuroda and Jaguar Endo leading the match, which was largely bult around the the ongoing rivalry between BATTLE BEASTS and Team Endorphine. A pretty well rounded match involving strikes, power moves, technical wrestling and some exciting aerial moves, this one ended with BATTLE Takenouchi putting the brakes on Hoshiko Tagawa with a judo style takedown, before she hit a Sit-Out Powerbomb for the one-two-three.

Winners: Ginko Kuroda and BATTLE BEASTS

Finish: Sit-Out Powerbomb

Yu Hashimoto, Chitose Ariwara and Eri Sato vs Joanne Rodriguez, Thea Davis and Ariel Breaks

Last of the undercard matches, this one featured many of WINNOW's top tier names and apparently since neither of them was booked to wrestle a high profile singles match, they decided to go out and steal the show anyway. A large part of the story told here was the feud between reigning WINNOW Grand Champion Joanne Rodriguez and Yu Hashimoto, who recently scored a pinfall over her and will most likely be challenging soon for J-Ro's title, however Ariel Breaks also raised her stock with the fans as she proved she can hang out with the best of them, never losing a step in keeping up with her teammates and opponents. Still, Breaks' skill wasn't tempered by experience and as soon as she got some decent offensive momentum going, her excitement had her dive straight into a decapitating Buzzsaw Kick from Sato, who proceeded to score the pin and end the match as fans cheered all six women for their performance.

Winners: Yu Hashimoto, Chitose Ariwara and Eri Sato

Finish: Buzzsaw Kick

Mystery Pink vs Queen Amazon

This match had some background to it and for those not following GDR in Mexico, the announcing team did a solid job of breaking things down and filling the blanks by providing context. Mystery Pink has been a long time member of both WINNOW and GDR, while Queen Amazon had a dominant reign as the Mexican promotion's top champion. Once Amazon branched out to Japan as part of a talent trade deal between the two WWA member promotions, Pink managed to beat her for the GDR title, leading Amazon to a spiteful attack during the latest installment of Neon Genesis Evolution. Japanese fans were treated to a sample of GDR-style lucha libre in this match and although no title was on the line, both ladies left everything in the ring, their natural chemistry as opponents making it absolutely apparent why they've been on a long-term feud in Mexico. Once again though, Mystery Pink was able to defeat the big powerouse with a burst of offense in the end, closing the Japanese part of their rivalry with a win.

Winner: Mystery Pink

Finish: Flying Body Press

Ochiyo Iijima © vs Faith McGee

The semi main event and first of the night's two title matches was all about a contrast in styles, as the somber, hard hitting champion Iijima took on the colourful, high flying Faith McGee. Iijima was all about slowing down the pace of the match, keeping her opponent down and attempting to take away her base with sweeping kicks and submission holds that focused on McGee's legs. After garnering sympathy from the fans, McGee showcased her fighting spirit and made a comeback to quicken the pace with her high flying, but Iijima once again was able to interrupt her before she built up enough momentum, scoring the pin not long after to win and retain.

Winner: Ochiyo Iijima (Defences:3)

Finish: Knock Out Kick

WINNOW Rising Champion title match

Romi Yamato © vs Rei Chikanatsu

If there's one thing you could say about this match, it was unusually long and slow-paced for WINNOW standards. Not that it was bad, instead this change of pace made it feel refreshing and fans were hot for a classic slow burner match that tested each competitor's skill, resilience and warrior spirit. A former WINNOW Pure Heart champion herself, Chikanatsu gave the defending title holder a hard time despite her diminutive stature, using her smaller size to evade and then take down the larger Yamato for a stretch. The champion's approach was more varied, blending strikes with suplexes and submission holds that eventually built up to her beautiful finisher to mark down another successful title defence.

Winner: Romi Yamato (Defences:3)

Finish: Yamatotal [Cross-arm Bridging German Suplex]

Catalina Vazquez versus Tomoko Nagatsuka

The opening match of GDR’s July show pit young luchadora Vazquez against one of the top joshi wrestlers in the world. Nagatsuka is a mainstay and main draw for 5SWW in Japan and while not as successful in the lucha heavy GDR, her ultra-physical style made for a tough match up for Vazquez. The fans were firmly behind Vazquez, who in the past year and a half has really built up trust with the fan base and they know she works hard. Nagatsuka pummeled Vazquez for most of the match before the big come back and the Flying Bulldog got Vazquez a big win.

In a decent match, Catalina Vazquez defeated Tomoko Nagatsuka in 9:24 by pinfall with a Flying Bulldog.

Águila Azul Celeste, Estrella Blanca, Pinky Perez and Ursula Saez versus Jaguar Queen, Juana Huracán, La Hija Del Diablo and Francisca Ramos

With multi-man matches being a key part of lucha libre, this was no different. It was all over the place with fast tags in and out and no one dominating or taking control and everyone getting the opportunity to shine. This also showcased the return of Pinky Perez, who had been out of GDR for quite some time but was back and looked like she had a lot of gusto. Former Mexican Champion Estrelle Blanca got the win when she hit the Northern Lights Suplex on Jaguar Queen.

In a decent match, Águila Azul Celeste, Estrella Blanca, Pinky Perez and Ursula Saez defeated Jaguar Queen, Juana Huracán, La Hija Del Diablo and Francisca Ramos in 13:49 when Estrella Blanca defeated Jaguar Queen by pinfall with a Northern Lights Suplex.

The former NOTBPW Champion was making her debut here against the popular New Zealand worker. Woodchuck has become quite popular and the fans were on her side through the whole contest. They weren’t sure how to take Brooke, but the Brooke Breaker submission she applied to Kalliope Woodchuck to get the victory definitely got their attention.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Brooke Tyler defeated Kalliope Woodchuck in 7:34 by submission with a Brooke Breaker.

Guest & Taylor w/ Lucia Valiente versus Maribel Mercado & Lauren Easter © w/ Vinny Cruz

Former tag champs versus current tag champs in what was a barn burner of a match up. These four women left it all out there and were definitely trying to steal the show. Mercado has turned into a star before the GDR’s eyes, the very epitome of rudo while Guest, in particular, has all the sympathy in the world. It was a really good match that was led by Lauren Easter -- who despite not being the star in the match continues to impress with stellar performances. Mercardo hit her pattened High Altitude Legdrop to get the successful title defense.

In a decent match, Maribel Mercado and Lauren Easter defeated Guest & Taylor in 12:38 when Maribel Mercado defeated Sarah Taylor by pinfall with a High Altitude Legdrop. Maribel Mercado and Lauren Easter make defence number 1 of their Campeanatos de Parejas GDR titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Lauren Easter was head and shoulders above everyone else. Sarah Taylor was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Poison Ivy versus Mystery Pink ©

Ivy and Pink know each other well and this match was a solid match. Ivy has really been catching fire lately and she brought it to Mystery Pink -- who recently won her rubber match against Queen Amazon in WINNOW in Japan. Since returning to GDR, Pink has been almost unstoppable and she was able to overcome some great offense from Ivy to hit the Flying Body Press and retain her championship.

In a decent match, Mystery Pink defeated Poison Ivy in 13:40 by pinfall with a Flying Body Press. Mystery Pink makes defence number 1 of her Campeónato del Mexico GDR title.

Queen Amazon versus Joanne Rodriguez ©.

The World Title was on the line. Joanne Rodriguez, the living legend and most decorated person on the GDR roster against the second most decorated. They went at it. Amazon hit a big dropkick early on that look like it broke Joanne Rodriguez’ jaw and it did affect how the match came across after. Rodriguez was clearly different after the shot but the two still had a solid match that left both women sweating and exhausted-looking and Rodriguez hitting a J-Rocker to retain the championship.

In a decent match, Joanne Rodriguez defeated Queen Amazon in 30:17 by pinfall with a J-Rocker. Joanne Rodriguez makes defence number 2 of her WWA World title.

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, Hiranuma Makoto here alongside Yuko Okui coming to you live from the Doshisha Athletic Center, the first time ever that WINNOW holds a show in this venue.</p><p>

<strong>Yuko Okui:</strong> It's been a long time coming, after selling out the Hall of Nagahama so many times and having so many fans unable to see the show live, WINNOW is finally moving to a larger venue and we thank all you fans for your support. It is what's made this possible.</p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> Indeed, a testament to the growth of WINNOW and its fanbase. Also another first, as tonight is the first show ever that no titles will be on the line!</p><p>

<strong>Yuko Okui:</strong> That is correct, Joanne Rodriguez was scheduled to face Yu Hashimoto for the WINNOW Grand Champion title but J-Ro was injured wrestling a match for GDR in Mexico, as was the WINNOW Rising Champion, Romi Yamato. Of course, there's no shortage of talent here in WINNOW so tonight in the main event, Hashimoto will be going one on one with the only woman besides Rodriguez to have ever held that title, Chitose Ariwara!</p><p>

<strong>Hiranuma Makoto:</strong> A clash of styles for sure, but there are so many other exciting matches before we get to that and we start with one featuring our GDR guests as well as the main card debut of several young lions!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ariel Breaks, Estrella Blanca, Selina Svelte and Velvet Suarez vs Fuyuko Uoya, Haniko Iseya, Hoshiko Asai and Toku Hayata</strong></p><p>

A standard multi woman tag match to warm up the crowd, this one featured WINNOW's crop of young lions, all of which made their main card debut except Fuyuko Uoya, who has made a few appearances in the past before her atrocious conditioning sent her back to the pre-show dark matches for polishing. For the record, she still didn't seem to have made much progress, somehow being visibly tired by the end of this 8 woman 10 minute opener. On the other end, the gaijin team featured GDR imports Estrella Blanca and Velvet Suarez alongside promising youngster Ariel Breaks and the technically oriented Selina Svelte, who debuted two weeks ago at Neon Genesis Evolution 18. Every woman had a chance to shine and do some spots, with Breaks getting the win over Uoya in the end.</p><p>

<strong>Claire Winters, Faith McGee and Laura Flame vs Asami Okubo, Hoshiko Tagawa and Nami Genda</strong></p><p>

Another undercard match to keep things moving, this one saw Nami Genda lead her fellow young lions against their opponents. Faith McGee was the only veteran wrestler in this match and of course scored the pin over Okubo, but in terms of in-ring performance she did get somewhat outshined by both her teammates.</p><p>

<strong>BATTLE BEASTS and Akuro Shionoya vs Team Endorphine and Rika Tsujimura</strong></p><p>

In the last of the multi-woman matches, current WINNOW Duet title holders BATTLE BEASTS teamed up with young lion Akuro Shionoya to face their recurring opponents in Team Endorphine, who had Rika Tsujimura with them. Jaguar Endo led the match and it seemed to throw the 39 year old veteran a bit off at times, but she still has the quality to stay on top of her game and Endo was indeed the finest wrestler in that match. In a true moment of getting the next generation ready, Endo also set up the finish of the match but instead of claiming the pin for herself, she tagged in her partner who did it.</p><p>

<strong>Eri Sato and Rei Chikanatsu vs Ochiyo Iijima and Ginko Kuroda</strong></p><p>

Speaking of getting the next generation ready, veterans Iijima and Kuroda were in the main event against Sato and Chikanatsu who are just hitting their peak phase. All four women really pulled out all the stops for a fast paced, jaw dropping match that almost stole the show and it did in fact end with a bang as Eri Sato finished off the WINNOW Pure Heart champion with a Buzzsaw Kick to claim the right for a shot at the title.</p><p>

<strong>Chitose Ariwara vs Yu Hashimoto</strong></p><p>

The main event really brought the pace down after the crazy match that came before it, allowing fans to recover from the intensity and invest in it as the match built up to its final crescendo. Both women did a great job of telling a story from start to finish, with inaugural WINNOW Grand Champion Chitose Ariwara fighting to climb back to the top against the current #1 contender for that title in Yu Hashimoto. Each competitor pushed the other to the limit in this long test of their physical resilience and mental toughness, but after several failed attempts at Ariwara's finisher, in the end it was Hashimoto who was able to connect with her own and knock down Ariwara for the pin.</p><p>

<strong>Winner: Yu Hashimoto</strong></p><p><strong>

Finish: The End Game [spinning Back Fist]</strong></p><p>

Hiranuma Makoto: Hello everyone and welcome to an exciting night of joshi puroresu! Hiranuma Makoto here alongside Yuko Okui as usual and what a night we've got in store for you!

Yuko Okui: Hello from me as well, an exciting card indeed as we'll be opening the show with a 6 woman tag match before Team Endorphine and BATTLE BEASTS meet once again with the WINNOW Duet titles on the line!

Hiranuma Makoto: The two teams have been at it for quite some time and it's anyone's game at this point, as is the following match where Romi Yamato and Chitose Ariwara face Ginko Kuroda and Faith McGee!

Yuko Okui: Kuroda is a former WINNOW Rising Champion and Yamato now holds that belt so she'll be looking to reclaim it. If she can pin Yamato tonight, she'll have the right to challenge her for a title match!

Hiranuma Makoto: And finally, our big main event, Yu Hashimoto finally faces the WINNOW Grand Champion Joanne Rodriguez!

Eri Sato, Rika Tsujimura and Hoshiko Tagawa vs Rei Chikanatsu, Ochiyo Iijima and Asami Okubo

A standard multi woman tag match to open the show and undercard, this one was built around Sato and Iijima's upcoming clash for the WINNOW Pure Heart title but also gave the young lionesses a chance to showcase themselves. Chikanatsu also saught to play a big role here but eventually it was Tsujimura who got he pin for her team over Asami Okubo

BATTLE BEASTS vs Team Endorphine

Long time rivals, the two teams were no strangers to each other and it showed in the many feints and counters thrown into this match. Endo's experience and ferocity really brought the fight to her strong style opponents but once again, Emiko Miyoshi was the weakest link and she was pinned by the massive BEAST Kaori, albeit with some extra leverage as the monster grabbed Miyoshi's tights to secure the pin.

Winners: BATTLE BEASTS [Defences: 1]

Romi Yamato & Chitose Ariwara vs Ginko Kuroda & Faith McGee

Easily the most fast paced spectacle of the night, this match saw all four participants give it their all as they threw everything they had at each other. Kuroda and Yamato kept things together with their strikes and technical prowess, while Ariwara and McGee brought the flashy high flying moves to wow the crowd in a great and pretty evenly split match that fittingly ended with Ariwara surprising McGee for the pin.

Winners: Romi Yamato & Chitose Ariwara

WINNOW Grand Champion title match

NVsHmIw.jpg25UZG0h.pngaqw0BcD.jpg

Joanne "J-Ro" Rodriguez © vs Yu Hashimoto

Rodriguez really needs no introduction by this point. She is the inaugural winner of the WINNOW Joshi Royalty Summit, a former WINNOW Rising Champion and reigning double champion as she holds both the WINNOW Grand Champion and WWA World Championship title. Hashimoto was unafraid though and she quickly shut down the (over)confident champion with her physicality and intense striking style. Once that put the brakes to Rodriguez, the match kicked into the classic slow burner gear of textbook puroresu, with the two women testing each other out and cautiously pacing themselves in order to avoid making the first mistake. Not only did this mean they had plenty of time to draw fans in and tell a great story, it also elevated the drama and importance of the match from another title defense to a proper clash of generations. Rodriguez went more than once for the J-Rocker and Hashimoto looked like she'd done her homework as she either blocked or avoided it, but so had J-Ro who was able to duck right under the End Game and avoid an abrupt stop to the match. Things went past the twenty minute mark, an unusual duration for a WINNOW match but eventually Hashimoto was able to connect with her finisher and in a dramatic finale that had everyone on the stands counting along, she got the three count to defeat Rodriguez.

Winner and NEW WINNOW Grand Champion: Yu Hashimoto

Finish: The End Game [spinning Back Fist]

Meqzwhu.jpgxZALP4v.jpgnNdK7TO.jpgsuPaLQd.jpg

NVsHmIw.jpg

Hashimoto had little time to celebrate her victory as Thea Davis, Laura Flame, Claire Winters and Selina Svelte surrounded the ring. What originally looked like an ambush was subverted when Davis stepped to the side and offered Hashimoto a clear way back to the locker room. Still hestitating in case this was a trap, the exhausted Hashimoto made a cautious retreat and then the four women climbed inside the ring to surround a reeling Rodriguez. The former WINNOW Grand Champion was glad to recognize her friend and was about to ask her for some help to stand back up, but Davis shocked the world when instead she slapped Rodriguez in the face! As if on cue, the other three pounced and the show ended with a beatdown that left Rodriguez down and title-less while Davis, Flame, Winters and Svelte stood tall as Davis got on the mic to announce that from now on, these four will be known as...

Fuyuko Uoya & Haniko Iseya versus Rina Kasahara & Tomoko Nagatsuka

Before the match, it was announced that this was going to be Uoya & Iseya’s last contest in GDR for quite some time as the two young women are heading back to WINNOW to continue their journey in the sport. They were up against fellow Joshi workers, the young Rina Kasahara and the veteran Tomoko Nagatsuka. The four women had a physical Joshi style match that the lucha-heavy crowd at the Merida Resort was surprisingly really into, even if the wrestling itself wasn’t great. Nagatsuka was the clear stand out in the match and she locked the young Haniko Iseya in the Crossface Chickenwing and the young Joshi worker was forced to submit.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Rina Kasahara and Tomoko Nagatsuka defeated Fuyuko Uoya and Haniko Iseya in 10:18 when Tomoko Nagatsuka defeated Haniko Iseya by submission with a Crossface Chickenwing.

Romi Yamato versus Jaguar Queen

Another WINNOW wrestler -- this one the standout young Romi Yamato that is the reigning Rising Champion in WINNOW was in action against GDR stalwart Jaguar Queen. The two women had a very solid contest that mixed Jaguar Queen’s technical-lucha style while Yamato showcased the kind of junior heavyweight action that has made her a major player across the Pacific. Yamato had Queen set up for the Yamatotal cross-arm German Suplex, but a headbutt to the nose got Jaguar Queen free. She locked in a front guillotine choke with her feet on the middle ropes for leverage and Yamato was forced to give it up to the cheating Jaguar Queen.

In a decent match, Jaguar Queen defeated Romi Yamato in 13:19 by submission after blatantly cheating.

Joanne Rodriguez versus Elsa Calvo

The WWA World Champion, Joanne Rodriguez was in non-title action against the talented, demented Elsa Calvo. Elsa came to the ring looking like a character out of the Orphanage and it was spooky as hell. Calvo played mind games with the champ all throughout the match and there were a couple of times where it looked like Calvo was going to pull off the upset, but a J-Rocker from the most accomplished international women’s wrestler on the planet ended that.

In a decent match, Joanne Rodriguez defeated Elsa Calvo in 9:37 by pinfall with a J-Rocker.

The Anti-Establishment versus Lauren Easter & Maribel Mercado © w/ Vinny Cruz

The Tag Team Championships were on the line. Easter and Mercado have blended into a very nice tag team. Both women are accomplished wrestlers and it is clear that they are foundational pieces here in GDR while the Anti-Establishment are former tag team champions themselves. It was a very competitive, quickly-paced contest that saw several big dives -- including Mercado hitting a beautiful springboard moonsault from the ring to Pamela Rojo on the outside. That left it open for Easter to hit her Belly to Belly on Hellcat Hernandez and secure the title defense.

In a decent match, Lauren Easter and Maribel Mercado defeated The Anti-Establishment in 12:21 when Lauren Easter defeated Hellcat Hernandez by pinfall with a Belly To Belly Suplex. Lauren Easter and Maribel Mercado make defence number 2 of their Campeanatos de Parejas GDR titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Lauren Easter was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Pinky Perez versus Queen Amazon

Queen Amazon and Pinky Perez are no strangers to one another but this match was underwhelming. The Queen has been the best wrestler, night in and night out, for GDR since it opened but she was off her game here (reports are that she might have been wrestling very sick) and she didn’t have her normal explosive power. Perez was also a little slower in the ring than normal, but the crowd was definitely into everything they did which made up for the fact that the match didn’t have the firepower one would expect. Queen Amazon did hit Perez with a cowbell while the referee had his back turned and that allowed her to secure the victory.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Queen Amazon defeated Pinky Perez in 15:16 by pinfall after using a foreign object.

La Hija Del Diablo versus Mystery Pink ©

The Main Event of the evening had Mystery Pink looking for her third successful defense of the GDR’s top championship while La Hija Del Diablo was looking to step out from the shadows of her tag team partner, a partner that is vastly more successful in singles than Diablo has been. It was a good contest, Diablo is not the premier worker that her partner is and Pink is one of the brightest stars in lucha libre. They took it slow and let the match build, letting it end with a flurry of offense from both women that culminated in the picture-perfect Flying Body Press from Mystery Pink onto La Hija Del Diablo and the title defense was secured.

In a decent match, Mystery Pink defeated La Hija Del Diablo in 23:24 by pinfall with a Flying Body Press. Mystery Pink makes defence number 3 of her Campeónato del Mexico GDR title.
