Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler briefly go over last night's shocking ending to Backlash before they are interrupted by <a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lCNtyCHHoU”>some weird music</a> and Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Lance Storm, & Shane Douglas make their way down to the ring! The new WWF World Heavyweight Champion grabs a microphone and says that last night marked the beginning of a new era on Monday Night RAW. Eddie says that this new era will be the era of The Radicalz! Eddie then introduces the three men standing behind him. First, his right hand man, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit. Eddie then introduces the two men he calls his "deadly duo," "The Straight Shooter" Lance Storm & "The Franchise" Shane Douglas. Eddie says that with the combined strength of The Radicalz, no one on RAW can stop them! WWF Smackdown, April 1997, Week Four

Attendance: 11,300 at CA Selland Arena

Commentary Team: Mike Tenay & Bobby Heenan

KyL0sVH.jpg

Welcome everyone to WWF Smackdown, live from Fresno, California! Mike Tenay & Bobby Heenan run down the card for tonight before they are interrupted by Randy Savage's music! Savage grabs a microphone and says that tonight, his crusade against The Kliq reaches it's second stop when he faces Kevin Nash in the semifinals of the WWF Global Championship Tournament. Savage says that the crusade has gone pretty well so far, with Scott Hall going down a few weeks ago. Now, Kevin Nash will get to get a taste of what he did to Scott Hall tonight! Before Savage can continue...

Kevin Nash appears on the ramp!

Nash, strangely by himself, grabs a microphone and before he can say anything, he throws the microphone down and makes his way down to the ring to begin brawling with Savage! Both men beat the living hell out of each other, with neither man having a serious advantage. Eventually, officials run down to the ring and separate the two men. Both men try escaping from the officlals as we go to commercials.

America's Most Wanted formed last week when "The Lone Star" Chris Walker and "The Outlaw" James Storm officially teamed up and set their sights on the WWF Intercontinental Tag Team Titles. This match is nothing more than a squash match that AMW completely dominate. AMW eventually finish off one of The Executioners in just under three minutes, after they hit him with the Death Sentence (Bearhug into a Diving leg drop)!

WINNERS: America's Most Wanted

After the match is over, Chris Walker & James Storm grab microphones and begin to speak. Walker says that he hopes that Edge & Christian were in the back watching what just happened, because they just proved why they are the hottest tag team in the WWF today! Storm says that him & Walker are coming for those WWF Intercontinental Tag Team Titles and they're coming for them soon. Walker says that he knows when they'll get those tag titles, at Fully Loaded, because they are officially challenging Edge & Christian for the WWF Intercontinental Tag Team Championship! Walker & Storm finish by saying that Edge & Christian's days are numbered!

After a quick commercial break, we cut to Paul Heyman backstage with Extreme Rising. Heyman says that tonight, Mike Awesome & Taz face a young, up and coming team named The Hardy Boyz. Heyman says that Matt & Jeff may be a fun team to watch, but once they get in the ring with Mike Awesome and Taz, they will be out of their element! Heyman says that The Hardy Boyz are on one level, while Extreme Rising are on a whole other level, far higher than The Hardy Boyz! Heyman finishes by saying that The Hardy Boyz have no chance in an extreme environment!

After that match is over, we cut to William Regal backstage. Regal says that he's been receiving a lot of complaints over the past few weeks, saying that he's a coward for doing what he's been doing to Kane. Regal then scolds those people, saying that he's not a coward, hell, he's not even afraid of Kane! Regal says that he's so not afraid of Kane, that he'll give him a WWF Intercontinental Championship match at Fully Loaded! Regal finishes by sarcastically wishing Kane the best of luck.

We're back from commercials and The British Bulldog is standing in the ring, ready for his match against The Rock. The Rock's music hits and he makes his way out in street clothes and carrying a microphone. The Rock says that he knows he's supposed to have a match with The British Bulldog tonight, but he's got a special announcement. The Rock says that he's not wrestling in front of a crappy town like Fresno, because they don't deserve to see him! The Rock instead challenges him to a match in his home town of Miami, that's right, he's challenging The British Bulldog to a Miami Street Fight at Fully Loaded! Bulldog calls The Rock a coward, but ultimately accepts his challenge for Fully Loaded. The two men stare each other down as the commentators hype up the rest of the night.

Meanwhile, Bret was last seen on Smackdown last week, when he got into a big brawl with the rest of the Global Championship Tournament semifinalists. This match is a good match and the crowd is solidly behind Clarke. Clarke and Bret start the match off with a collar and elbow tie-up, in which Bret hits Clarke with an exploder suplex. Bret throws Clarke into the corner and hits him with a knife edge chop. Bret goes to the second rope and attempts a diving pointed elbow drop, but Clarke rolls out of the way. Clarke hits Bret with a German suplex before hitting him with a running bulldog. Clarke throws Bret chest first into the corner before hitting him with a backbreaker. Clarke goes to the top rope and hits Bret with a diving elbow drop. The match comes to an end when Clarke attempts the Meltdown, but Bret reverses it into a belly to belly suplex. Bret then locks Clarke in the Sharpshooter! Clarke tries reaching for the ropes, but eventually has no choice but to tap out.

WINNER: Bret Hart

After the match is over, we cut to Kevin Nash backstage. Nash applauds the result of the previous match, saying that's why The Kliq is the most dominant force in the WWF today. Nash says that one member of The Kliq already won tonight and up next, another will win too, when he takes down Randy Savage and advances to the finals of the WWF Global Championship Tournament. Nash says that whether it's him or Bret Hart, The Kliq will get the WWF Global Championship one way or another. Nash finishes by saying that The Kliq will rule over Smackdown soon enough.

Randy Savage vs Kevin Nash

Randy Savage got here by defeating Scott Hall in the quarterfinals, while Kevin Nash got here by defeating Adam Clarke in the quarterfinals. This match is a great match and the crowd is solidly behind Savage. Savage starts the match off by rushing Nash with a high knee. This sends Nash crashing into the corner and Savage takes advantage by unleashing a barrage of punches. Savage throws Nash off the ropes and hits him with a crossbody. Savage attempts a sidewalk backbreaker, but Nash reverses it into a suplex. Nash throws Savage off the ropes and hits him with a big boot. Nash throws Savage into the corner and hits him with a knife edge chop. Nash attempts a military press slam, but Savage wiggles out of it and sends Nash chest first into the corner. Savage hits Nash with a German suplex before hitting him with a knee drop. Savage attempts another knee drop, but Nash rolls away. The match comes to an end when Nash attempts the Jacknife Powerbomb, but Savage reverses it into a facebuster. Savage then goes to the top rope and hits Nash with the Diving Elbow Drop! Savage covers Nash and gets the three!

WINNER: Randy Savage

The Kliq begin attacking him!

Bret, Nash, & Hall beat the living hell out of Savage, with Nash hitting Savage with the Jacknife Powerbomb, Hall hitting him with the Kliq's Edge, and Bret hitting him with an exploder suplex. Eventually, all three men throw Savage to the outside in front of the announce table. Bret, Savage, & Nash then pick up Savage and send him through the announce table with a triple powerbomb! Jerry Lynn vs. Mikey Whipwreck

Jerry Lynn has made it very clear in the past few weeks that he believes he is the franchise player of the Cruiserweight division and last week Don Callis told him to prove it in a match tonight. So far Lynn has looked impressive inside of the squared circle but he hasn’t faced someone of Whipwreck’s calibre yet on Super Astros. Whipwreck is of course a former WWF Cruiserweight Champion and he used his speed and recklessness to remind Lynn, and the crowd, why he won that title in the first place. Both men battle it out with speed and technical ability but a few cheap tricks by Lynn makes it look like he’ll steal the match. He hauls Whipwreck up for the Future Shock but Whipwreck slips out the back and rolls Lynn up for the three, much to Jerry Lynn’s shock and fury!

WINNER: Mikey Whipwreck

RATING: 66 / C+

Berlyn has gone by a number of names throughout his career, but the only thing he wants to be called here in Super Astros is champion. Considering himself the most “held back” wrestler in all of the WWF Berlyn promises that 1997 is his year and that Super Astros is going to be his show. He outright promised to dominate anyone that stands in his way starting tonight with that idiot 2 Cold Scorpio. Berlyn has heard that Scopio likes to dance, that he likes to have a good time, well he won’t be dancing tonight when Berlyn drops him like the wall!

Marty Jannetty vs. Silver King

Marty Jannetty has come to Super Astros to try and prove that he is still capable of being a star here in the World Wrestling Federation. Unfortunately last week he came up short in his Super Astros debut and was hoping for a better showing tonight against the daredevil Luchadore Silver King. Much like last week Jannetty found himself facing off against someone younger, faster and seemingly more willing to take risks with his own body. Jannetty held his own for much of the match but quickly found himself facing another loss as Silver King pushed him to his brink. That was however until Jannetty shockingly dove from the top turnbuckle to the outside, wiping himself and Silver King out at the same time! A highly unusual high risk move by the veteran Jannetty, who followed up by rolling King back in the ring and connecting with the Rocker Dropper for the win!

WINNER: Marty Jannetty

Jerry Lynn is none too happy with his loss to Mikey Whipwreck earlier tonight, shouting at staff backstage to ask what they’re looking at and demanding one get him a water. He ends up walking right into the path of Super Astros General Manager Don Callis, who has a wry smirk on his face. He tells Lynn that he was meant to impress him tonight, but if anything he’s a little embarrassed for Lynn, losing in his first ‘real’ challenge. Callis tells Lynn that he isn’t the Franchise Player and if he keeps losing when he’s given opportunities, he won’t even be a substitute. Lynn storms off, his anger only intensified.

Latino World Order vs. Local Talent

This was the first time that the three members of the Latino World Order were competing as a trio and it didn’t take long to show exactly why they were considered to be such a formidable threat in the Cruiserweight division. They picked apart the local talent opposite them, finishing them off in less than five minutes with the Pscho Cutter.

WINNER: Latino World Order

RATING: 53 / C

Psicosis snatches up a microphone following the match while Juventud Guerrera and Super Crazy threw their opponents unceremoniously from the ring. Psicosis began ranting in Spanish before switching to English to send a warning to Billy Kidman - he wasn’t going to tell Kidman to stay out of their business because he’s already in it, he’s simply warning Kidman that the next time he shows his face he’s going to get beat so bad that everybody will realise you don’t go messing with the Latino World Order.

2 Cold Scorpio vs. Berlyn

Earlier tonight Berlyn sent a warning to 2 Cold Scorpio that he was going to bring him down faster than the Berlin wall, the first step in his mission to dominate the Cruiserweight division. The fun-loving 2 Cold Scorpio was more than happy to let him try but wasn’t going to make it easy for him, because when that bell rings he can be as serious as anyone else. Berlyn was caught off guard by this, expecting an easy match, and was on the back foot in the early goings until catching Scorpio with a vicious running knee in the corner. Suddenly Berlyn was in his element, doling out vicious, violent punishment aimed at simply overpowering and wearing Scorpio down. Scorpio had a flurry late in the match after catching Berlyn with a high crossbody but the damage was already done and everybody could see it. Berlyn rocked Scorpio with another running knee to the side of the head before finishing him off with the Very Germal Suplex.

WINNER: Berlyn

RATING: 68 / C+

Finally it was the moment the entire Super Astros crowd had been waiting for as Sabu and Jushin Thunder Liger came face to face. Just two short weeks ago Sabu violently attacked Liger, trying to rip his mask off and if not for the intervention of Dean Malenko likely would have succeeded. Sabu didn’t wait around, screaming that he wants Liger’s title and he’ll keep hurting him until he gets it. Sabu doesn’t like Liger, he doesn’t like anybody, he just wants what he wants and if he has to rip Liger’s face off along with his mask he’ll do it. Liger stood patiently, waiting for his chance to speak. He warned Sabu that he didn’t want to see what was beneath the mask, telling him that he had enough to deal with with Liger than what lied beneath. Sabu started laughing hysterically and then dove for Liger only to get a right hand! Liger and Sabu broke out into a massive brawl, security and officials rushing from backstage to break them up! While things may have been broken up before too much damage could be done it was clear that when Liger and Sabu finally clash one-on-one there will be no stopping them from tearing each other apart!
