SPW Pro Wrestling 26 Aftermath & News

Aftermath

Daniel Loiselle managed to bring out the best in Spike Morgan, as he invariably does with all of his opponents, as they managed a 44 rating match- a full 11 rating points higher than Morgan's previous best. Meanwhile, the round robin, a new concept for SPW audiences, was working well and the fans were really into the matches- with just one more round to go, any one of Daniel Loiselle, Friedrich Herzog or Spike Morgan could still walk away with victory and earn themselves a shot at SPW World Champion, Joe Boone.

La Oscuridad again performed exceptionally well against another rookie making his debut in Bernie Hughes. Also, with Scott Levesque's match against Austyn Taylor falling below expectations, it seems that he was being carried in a big way in his 2 contests with the masked man. The payoff match to Levi Andrews and Dustin David's feud was a real disappointment given how much build had gone into it and our hopes of moving David slowly up the card.

Southern Pro Wrestling continued to build their women's division with the signing of Denise Alessio. Alessio will be brought in as a babyface to rebalance the division following the addition of Diana Gosselin a couple of months ago. She will be playing a tomboy kind of role.

Pride of Germany promoted their 2nd show, 'Crimes Against Humanity' on 23rd April in front of a crowd of 247 (actually down on the previous month's attendance) for what was a marked improvement in quality compared to their first event. It was clear that the first show had some flaws which Friedrich Herzog was already addressing here. Firstly, Tellus Chalkius lost his World Title in his first defence, against Pygmailon Angel, in what was a far superior main event than their previous one, and the best match of the night. In the semi-main spot, Herzog himself overcame Eustatius Van Emburgh in a decent contest, meanwhile, Berg Andersson successfully defended the PoG National Title with a win over Eetu Larsen from Finland. There was also possibly the worst match in professional wrestling history on the show, when Greek wrestler, Anatole Rhodes overcame Angelino Romano- the bout was given a rating of 6 by those who were in attendance.

<p>SPW Pro Wrestling 27 Preview</p><p> </p><p>

Below is the preview for SPW Pro Wrestling 27...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><em>Southern Pro Wrestling rolls back into Beaumont for the conclusion to the number 1 contender round robin tournament that has been raging for the last 3 months- who will come out on top with a title shot secured to face the World Champion at SPW Extravaganza!</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

As things stand, Daniel Loiselle and Friedrich Herzog each have 4 points after going to a draw with one another in their first match and then defeating Spike Morgan and Perry Bryant respectively in their 2nd. Morgan is on 3 points following his victory over Bryant in their first match of the tournament, while Bryant is yet to get off the mark. Bryant however will be fighting for pride in his last round robin contest, up against former World Champion, Daniel Loiselle. </em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

As you'll no doubt be aware, reigning World Champion, Joe Boone, has denied Loiselle another match for the title, sighting Loiselle's failure to give him more than one shot at the belt, when he was champion. Therefore, a victory in the round robin tournament is Loiselle's only hope of getting another chance to win the Championship.</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

Both Friedrich Herzog and Spike Morgan however, will be eager to take the opportunity from Loiselle as they battle each other. If Herzog wins against Morgan, and Loiselle beats Bryant, the round robin will be tied at the top, and the pair will have to do battle in an additional playoff match. Don't forget, it was Joe Boone who negotiated specifically for Herzog to be in the tournament with the express purpose of preventing Loiselle from winning it, so Herzog will have no shortage of motivation.</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

Spike Morgan however can still win the tournament himself, but in addition to needing to defeat Herzog, he will also be reliant on Bryant preventing Loiselle from beating him in their match. To add a little more spice, as SPW will be in Texas for the show, Morgan's SPW Mid South Title will also be on the line in the bout. There are many permutations to this thing, so it's anybody's guess as to what might happen!</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

In the meantime, Joe Boone has been picking up a string of World Title defences in the past couple of month, one of which was against Leroy Disco who pushed Boone all the way in a 20+ minute match a couple of months ago, only for the challenger to lose the bout via count out due to outside interference from his former partner, Danny Cool. At SPW Pro Wrestling 27, Disco will get a rematch that he earned by defeating Boone's stablemate in The Alliance, Nathan Hayes last month. Last time, Leroy Disco went into his title match with many doubting his credentials for such an opportunity, but now he goes in as a serious contender- can Boone escape with the title? </em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

It has recently been confirmed by SPW management that the next contenders for the SPW Tag Team Title will be The Kuroki Boys following a number of good results lately and will get their chance to win the belts at SPW Extravaganza. Before then however, Squire Albert Berik will face Tetsuyuki Ishibashi in singles action in a contest that will no doubt give us a good indication as to what might happen when the titles are on the line! </em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

All of this, plus a massive 10-man tag match featuring Levi Andrews, Nathan Hayes, Danny Cool & Double Shot versus Dustin David, Young Guns & No Nonsense, as well as mixed tag team action and much more!</em></strong> </p><p> </p><p>

The main thing that I like about this dynasty is that I can't really say where the stories are going. This round of predictions are especially tricky.

Number 1 Contender Round Robin- Daniel Loiselle vs. Perry Bryant

- I would really like to see a rematch between Herzog and Loiselle.

Number 1 Contender Round Robin & Mid South Title Match- Spike Morgan © vs. Friedrich Herzog

-I am a bit hesitant with the title on the line, but I can see Herzog becoming a champion and having him and Morgan split into a different storyline altogether.

SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. Leroy Disco

- A nice mini-feud to test Disco and give Boone something to do until the inevitable match with Loiselle.

Levi Andrews, Nathan Hayes, Danny Cool & Double Shot vs. Dustin David, Young Guns & No Nonsense

-Give the heels some momentum will ya.

Squire Albert Berik vs. Tetsuyuki Ishibashi

- Berik gets his win back and will probably lead to a feud with the Kuroki boys for the championships (Sidenote: are they still the Kuroki Boys now that Kuroki is gone?

Melissa Bell & Scott Levesque vs. Diamanta & La Oscuridad

- La Oscuridad seems the better prospect compared to Levesque.

Denise Alessio vs. Consuelo Montero

- Could go either way, giving it to the more experienced of the two.

Thomas Appleseed vs. Bernie Hughes

- Appleseed got a storyline and is seemingly building towards a feud with Young Guns, curious to see if he adopts a cult based of his promos. Either recruit one of the young guns or find a different wrestler to join in perhaps?

Number 1 Contender Round Robin- Daniel Loiselle vs. Perry Bryant

Number 1 Contender Round Robin & Mid South Title Match- Spike Morgan © vs. Friedrich Herzog

I actually go with draws on both matches here and there´s a few reasons to that. First, for someone just breaking out to main event scene, Bryant haven´t had particularly good tournament so far but draw against Loiselle would chance that without hurting Loiselle too much. Second, I do see Herzog being above the midcard title but for the same reason, I don´t see Morgan winning as he´s already done better than what I expected here. And third, I think the fact that there´s already a ruling on draw meaning rematch makes me think that this ruling is actually going to be used and by having both matches end on the draw, we got Loiselle vs. Herzog rematch while both Morgan and Bryant had gotten their moment in the spotlight as leaving pretty much everyone looking good as far as this tournament goes.

SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. Leroy Disco

Second time ain´t the charm here.

Levi Andrews, Nathan Hayes, Danny Cool & Double Shot vs. Dustin David, Young Guns & No Nonsense

Feeling that the face side is slighly stronger overall but I could see this one going the other way as well.

Squire Albert Berik vs. Tetsuyuki Ishibashi

Berik has been praised pretty highly so I figure he´s going to win much more than lose. that said, this is another could see this one going the other way too if you want challengers to get a win over one half of tag champs.

Melissa Bell & Scott Levesque vs. Diamanta & La Oscuridad

Diamanta gets a win back after losing the belt to Bell.

Denise Alessio vs. Consuelo Montero

It´s still a small division so with face champ, you kind of need to have heels having most of the wins when not facing champ with the belt on line.

Thomas Appleseed vs. Bernie Hughes

Again, Appleseed seems to be getting a push and doubful he would lose here after a strong start.

In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Thomas Appleseed defeated Bernie Hughes in 7:32 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage.

Rating: 19

After the match, Thomas Appleseed grabbed a microphone, as has become customary since his arrival in SPW:

"This poor, pathetic soul [pointing to Bernie Hughes] is just another man lost, lacking any faith, just like Young Guns. They have no faith, and therefore they will have no glory, they will be destined for failure."

9TS3Mud.jpgF0SO0Oy.jpg

This brought out Young Guns who issued a challenge to Appleseed to find someone that he felt did have faith, and bring them to SPW Extravaganza to face them in a tag team match.

Rating: 39

Match 2: Denise Alessio vs. Consuelo Montero

Rating: 35

Match 8: Number 1 Contender Round Robin Match 6- Daniel Loiselle vs. Perry Bryant

DIrVef3.jpg vs. b3eCW1P.jpg

After about 15 minutes of this decent bout, the referee took a tumble when Bryant reversed an Irish Whip sending Loiselle careering into the official. Bryant then went to retrieve a steel chair from ringside, but before he could hit Loiselle with it, a man we'd not seen before came out to stop him!

8gT5EHp.jpg

It became clear that this man was the returning El Espiritu, when he held his mask up to the crowd for all to see.

After a few moments of struggle to get the steel chair off of Bryant, El Espiritu hit Bryant in the gut with the chair. However, just as he did this, the referee had stirred himself and saw El Espiritu use the chair on Bryant prompting him to disqualify Loiselle in 16:51 handing Bryant the victory in the match, and Friedrich Herzog overall victory in the round robin!

Rating: 46

Number 1 Contender Round Robin- Final Table

1. Friedrich Herzog (7pts)

2. Daniel Loiselle (4pts)

3. Spike Morgan (3pts)

4. Perry Bryant (3pts)

Hey, just caught up and been loving the dynasty. This mod makes such a good story as it feels like it's the only time I'll ever get to see this and all feels very unique. Really loving seeing the world evolve.

4 out of 8- Thanks very much, and good to have you on board! The world continues to evolve considerably, I can promise you that- when I started writing this diary up I was already 5 years into the future, and I have continued to play to the point where I have played up to May 1927- so plenty to come yet!

The main thing that I like about this dynasty is that I can't really say where the stories are going. This round of predictions are especially tricky.

4 out of 8- Thanks for the kind words, and you were right, this round of predictions was especially tricky which has been evident in the fact that nobody got the main event correct. I'm really glad the round robin has been unpredictable- when you book the shows, while you think you may have surprised the 'audience', you don't really know if it will have worked, but I like to think the predictions have shown that it did.

Number 1 Contender Round Robin- Daniel Loiselle vs. Perry Bryant

Number 1 Contender Round Robin & Mid South Title Match- Spike Morgan © vs. Friedrich Herzog

4 out of 8- bold move to go for 2 draws in the round robin matches, unfortunately it didn't quite payoff but I like the attempt! Interesting that everyone got 4 out of 8 on this card, and yet all get different predictions correct. I think I'm noticing a little bit of a pattern whereby things are relatively stable, and as you would expect for a period, and then a couple of shows come along where things don't go as expected, and then return back to being more predictable again, I'll be interested to see if that continues going forward.

SPW Pro Wrestling 27 Aftermath & News

Aftermath

The main event of SPW Pro Wrestling 27 went exactly as planned as we continue to tell the story of Daniel Loiselle being unable to get himself a rematch versus Joe Boone for the title. Loiselle's match with Bryant was the 8th best of all time, showing that Bryant is already a capable grappler with the right opponent, and has plenty of scope for improvement.

The return of El Espiritu went well also, of course now without the mask, we had to be careful to ensure people realised that, in this instance, (as opposed to Festive Fury) he was in no way trying to get Loiselle disqualified and his actions were purely about going after the man who'd cost him his match at the 2nd Anniversary show, Perry Bryant.

There was slight disappointment in the rematch between Joe Boone and Leroy Disco for the World Title- their previous match had hit a rating of 41 and it was hoped this would go a little better again, unfortunately Disco didn't perform as well as he had done previously and it only managed a 36.

The mixed tag team match was the best bout in history to feature women in it, and by now, given the improvements they had made, Don Loomis was fully behind keeping the women's division. Diamanta fell short of the others in the match, but Melinda Bell more than kept pace with two men who had previously shown great chemistry fighting one another, which was a really good sign.

News

Pride of Germany presented 'Last Laugh' the day after SPW Pro Wrestling 27, in front of 273 fans (which was just about the biggest crowd they'd had so far). In notable results from the show, Pygmalion Angel made his first successful defence of the World Title when he overcame Eustatius Van Emburgh in the main event (and match of the night), former Champion, Tellus Chalkias defeated Friedrich Herzog, and Peter Jelinek from Russia became the first ever PoG Arena Champion when he beat Marek Wozniak, also from Russia.

SPW Extravaganza Preview

Here is the preview for SPW Extravaganza...

SPW Extravaganza is finally here, and what a card is in store as the stars of Southern Pro Wrestling line up for battle in a night where 3 titles are on the line and where El Espiritu returns to action!

The last we saw of the masked Mexican sensation, El Espiritu, in the ring, was at the 2nd Anniversary show where he lost his Title vs. Mask match to Joe Boone, largely as a consequence of the interference of Perry Bryant. Losing his mask was a major trauma for the former World Champion and he took a couple of months away from the ring to clear his head following the loss. Earlier this month, at SPW Pro Wrestling 27, he returned to SPW to go after Bryant and subsequently, SPW have signed a big grudge match to take place between the two at this show.

That return however, played a major part in deciding the result of the recent number 1 contender round robin tournament that had taken place to determine World Champion, Joe Boone's opponent at this show. El Espiritu ran to the ring to go after his nemesis, Perry Bryant, but actually caused Daniel Loiselle to be disqualified and therefore handed the tournament victory to Friedrich Herzog who had, earlier that night, overcome Spike Morgan. It is therefore Friedrich Herzog who enters SPW Extravaganza as the man scheduled to challenge for the belt. However, with Herzog's participation originally negotiated by the World Champion, merely to prevent Loiselle winning, it is unclear whether Herzog will take the match against his Alliance stablemate.

Regardless of the World Title match situation, two other men who competed in the number 1 contender round robin tournament, Daniel Loiselle and Spike Morgan, have agreed to a rematch with one another following their toughly contested battle at SPW Pro Wrestling 26. That night, Daniel Loiselle came out on top but Morgan earned the Canadian superstar's respect and that has led to the pair looking to pit their skills versus one another once more.

There will also be tag team action as Champions, The Chivalry face up to what is arguably the toughest challenge to their titles yet in The Kuroki Boys. After a string of impressive victories, The Kuroki Boys were announced as the new number 1 contender's to the tag straps in April, and at SPW Pro Wrestling 27, we were treated to a preview of what might be in store here, when Tetsuyuki Ishibashi's match with Squire Albert Berik was interrupted by both Sir Anthony Henry and his own partner, Masao Kobayashi and ended in a double disqualification. The hope is that at SPW Extravaganza there will be a more conclusive finish.

For the past couple of months, SPW newcomer, Thomas Appleseed has been a thorn in the side of former Tag Team Champions, Young Guns, collecting tainted victories in singles action over both by using underhanded tactics, before telling them that the reason they lost was because, in his words, they lacked 'faith'. In Beaumont, Texas a few weeks ago, Young Guns called Appleseed out to face them in tag team action, telling him to bring someone who he considered to have the 'faith' that he has continuously been talking about- Appleseed has subsequently signed for the match, so who will he bring to the battle?

Also, the SPW Women's Title will be on the line as Melinda Bell faces her rival Diamanta one more time over the belt. This is a feud that has been raging since October last year, beginning when Diamanta was handed the Women's Title by forfeit as a consequence of Melinda Bell being injured and unable to compete. Since that time, Bell worked hard to get herself a title shot and finally managed to win the belt that she always felt should have been hers, at the 2nd Anniversary Show in February. Now Diamanta is getting her rematch and the personal war between the two has never been more bitter!

The hostilities between Double Shot and No Nonsense will continue at the show as the two teams are on a collision course in tag action. This dispute stretches all the way back to January when the teams were on separate sides of the ring in a 6-man tag match and has been waged back and forth ever since. This will be the third contest between the teams, with No Nonsense winning their most recent match after a double disqualification in their first encounter.

All this will be coming your way at SPW Extravaganza as well as action featuring Levi Andrews, Dustin David, Leroy Disco and many others- do not miss it!

SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. Friedrich Herzog

Wonder if this is going to be actual match which it could be if Herzog decides he wants the belt or will Alliance stay together. Either way, I don´t see Boone dropping the belt to Herzog so he retains but this one is interesting because it could start Alliance break-up or solify them as a group were they look group first instead of everyone only caring about themselves.

El Espiritu vs. Perry Bryant

Bryant looks to be one of those guys who you are pushing to become important players as he´s wins over Kuroki and DQ win over Loiselle proves. That said, I don´t see him quite beating Espiritu unless it´s via similar situation than what happened with Loiselle. That said, one of these days one of the computer generated guys is going to pull the big win over likes of Loiselle and Espiritu and I assume it won´t be that long time away.

SPW Tag Team Title Match- The Chivalry © vs. The Kuroki Boys

I could see Kuroki Boys take the belts next, that said, I still go with Chivalry having longer run so I pick them this time around.

Daniel Loiselle vs. Spike Morgan

Thinking Morgan is still step or two away from Loiselle.

Young Guns vs. Thomas Appleseed & ???

Appleseed looks to be gainingsimilar push than what Morgan did (this feud so far looks quite similar to Morgan vs. Double Shot) so I see this one being a chance for Young Guns to take a win since over Appleseed as he now has partner who can eat the pin.

SPW Women's Title Match- Melinda Bell © vs. Diamanta

Not quite sure yet were I expect women division to go after this feud but I figure Bell is the one walking a awy with the title belt.

No Nonsense vs. Double Shot

I´m rating No Nonsense higher than Double Shot.

Levi Andrews vs. Bernie Hughes

Andrews gets a win in order to get some momentum.

Dustin David & Denise Alessio vs. Danny Cool & Consuelo Montero

I´m bit conflicted here as on one hand, I think heels should win because you need heel to challenge Bell but I don´t rate Cool particularly high while I do rate David at least decently high. I´m thinking David vs. Cool is pulling the scale on faces favor here but I won´t be surpsired if I end up being wrong here.

La Oscuridad vs. Leroy Disco

Both have had some solid performanecs but Disco looks to be higher on pecking order in my books.

There's been an awful lot going on around here lately and I thought I would try and bring you all up to speed in case you weren't aware. I have been a fighting champion however and have faced all comers for this belt, and beaten them all. That was clearly not enough for Southern Pro Wrestling however, because they decided, in their infinite wisdom, to set up a round robin tournament that would compel me to face whoever won, and then entered Daniel Loiselle into the tournament, taking away my right to face who I see fit to face! As it turned out, I needn't have worried because, what do you know? Daniel Loiselle failed once more! He failed because this man stood next to me, my great friend and Alliance brother, Friedrich Herzog, managed to win it instead. Friedrich came through in a big way for himself, winning a prestigious tournament such as this, he came through for me, because it was me who requested he be placed in the tournament, to prove to SPW that Loiselle was undeserving of another shot at my title, and he came through for The Alliance, not just in ensuring justice was served in stopping Loiselle from getting a title shot, but also by ensuring the security of the World Title within our ranks." </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> Joe Boone then took the time to shake Herzog's hand. Haha, Those are lucky guesses I believed. I did visualize that Bryant would have probably win by a fluke to prolong the feud. But, I didn't see the Alliance feud as well as Loiselle and Morgan story, so I still don't know where it will go. Also, I like La Oscuridad more than Disco, so that might just be bias.

SPW Extravaganza Aftermath & News

Aftermath

While the main event came through and delivered at a level satisfactory for the headlining bout, it was the SPW Tag Team Title match that won match of the night honours as The Kuroki Boys overcame The Chivalry to be crowned new champions. This time, there were no standouts, with all 4 bringing their A-game and serving up the 7th best match in SPW history (and the best not to include Daniel Loiselle). It completely justified putting the belts on the two young Japanese workers who had more than proved deserving of the major victory they had been given.

Sandwiched between the two big title matches, Emilio Suarez's match with Perry Bryant was a little disappointing with Don Loomis and his management team expecting more. Frank Norris commented in the post-show management meeting that, without the mask, the former El Espiritu just wasn't as engaging as he had been before and that the fans simply didn't care as much but Jay Lutter warned against judging the situation prematurely and put the underwhelming contest down to ring rust on Suarez's part, and the fact that the match ended before it had the chance to really kick into gear.

There were other good performances however- Melinda Bell and Diamanta contested the best SPW Women's Title match yet while the No Nonsense vs. Double Shot tag contest had gone better than expected as well.

Despite improvements at Pride of Germany's 2nd show, and another decent effort at their 3rd, Friedrich Herzog made the decision in early June, to appoint a booker to oversee the creative output of the company going forward. The man who got the job was 31 year-old Spaniard, Arturo Santos who had been a relatively well known kickboxer across Europe until some irregular betting patterns for one of his bouts resulted in him being blackballed by the promoters of the sport. Herzog, apparently knowing Santos personally, felt that he was the right man to take over the book. He's also been contracted wrestle as well, so it will be interesting to see how Santos books himself in the promotion.

<p>SPW Pro Wrestling 28 Preview</p><p> </p><p>

Here is the preview for SPW Pro Wrestling 28...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><em>SPW Pro Wrestling 28 comes to you from Jackson, MS as the biggest stars in the sport congregate for another rollicking card of hard hitting grappling action!</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

All eyes have been on The Alliance after the events at SPW Extravaganza that saw Friedrich Herzog take his shot at Joe Boone's World Title, seemingly against the plans of his stable mates. It was the actions of another Alliance member, Nathan Hayes, that ensured Boone retained his title however, when he interfered on the Champion's behalf- where this leaves the group is anybody's guess and hopefully all will be revealed at SPW Pro Wrestling 28. In the meantime, Joe Boone and Nathan Hayes have been booked in tag team action, to face No Nonsense. </em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

Speaking of Friedrich Herzog, whatever his feelings about his World Title match versus Joe Boone at Extravaganza, he has been given the chance to secure another shot at the belt when he faces Perry Bryant in the main event of the show in a match that will determine the new number 1 contender. Bryant of course, has managed successive victories, albeit by disqualification, over the two former World Champions, Emilio Suarez and Daniel Loiselle, if he manages to make it a hat-trick of victories, he will be the one to get the chance to take on Boone for the belt in the near future.</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

Last month at SPW Extravaganza, the former El Espiritu, Emilio Suarez returned to the ring and on the night vowed to make it back to the top of Southern Pro Wrestling once more. To that end, Suarez has signed for a major match with Levi Andrews who, perhaps looking for a distraction from the issues within The Alliance at the moment, will be eager to secure what would amount to a major victory over the former World Champion. </em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>

Also at SPW Extravaganza, new Tag Team Champions were crowned when The Kuroki Boys defeated The Chivalry in one heck of a match. 6th June 1922. Jackson, MS

Attendance: 382

Match 1: Joe Boone & Nathan Hayes vs. No Nonsense

0GMbMmW.jpglj2pNRH.jpg vs. woi6tgy.jpgxdkaygP.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Joe Boone and Nathan Hayes defeated No Nonsense in 14:02 when Nathan Hayes defeated Anderson Ambriz by pinfall with a Double Arm Face Plant.

Rating: 39

After getting the win, Boone took the microphone from the ring announcer and asked Levi Andrews to come out and speak to them.

jee5VHL.jpg

After Andrews came out, Joe Boone had the following to say:

"Levi, I know you must be conflicted right now about what happened at Extravaganza. I know that you and Friedrich Herzog have been working together for the last 2 years and I know that you feel a loyalty to him for the work you have done- that's why me and Nathan here, didn't involve you in what had to be done a couple of weeks ago. But let me make it clear- it DID have to be done, because Friedrich Herzog was putting his own selfish desires in front of the bigger picture, he was threatening all the good work you and I and Nathan have put in, and I couldn't let that happen. What me and Nathan did at SPW Extravaganza was what was best for The Alliance. Now I want you to know Levi, that if you're worried about where The Alliance goes from here, you needn't worry, because I have already found a replacement for Friedrich Herzog in this group, but it would be the cherry on top of the cake, if you, the creator of this group, stuck with the project, and helped us usher in an even greater era for all of us."

Joe Boone reached out his hand, and Levi Andrews thought for a moment, and then accepted the hand shake as the three men raised their hands above their heads to the jeers of the crowd.

Rating: 41

xKawI4N.jpg

Ahead of the next match between Roland Pascual and Austyn Taylor, Thomas Appleseed addressed the Young Guns:

"Young Guns, I want to make a deal with you, because, despite what you might think, I am a good man. I promise not to interfere in the match about to take place, and I will even leave the ringside, if Dragon Lee promises to do the same- let's make this a clean and fair fight shall we?"

Dragon Lee looked sceptical but agreed to the deal and both he and Thomas Appleseed left the ringside area.

Rating: 41

Match 2: Austyn Taylor vs. Roland Pascual

1O264UX.jpg vs. F0SO0Oy.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Austyn Taylor defeated Roland Pascual in 8:42 by pinfall with a Top Rope Headbutt following interference from Consuelo Montero.

SOzrHVi.jpg

Rating: 32

Up next, Perry Bryant came out in front of the crowd and grabbed a microphone.

b3eCW1P.jpg

"I've got to be quite honest with you, I am feeling on top of the world right now. Is it that summer is officially here and the birds are singing their song? No, it's because at SPW Extravaganza I did something completely unprecedented- I secured back to back victories over Daniel Loiselle and Emilio Suarez, the two great pillars of SPW- something that nobody else has ever managed to do. As everybody knows though, all good things come in threes and tonight I will complete a monumental hat-trick by defeating Friedrich Herzog to become the number 1 contender to the SPW World Title!"

Rating: 45

Match 3: The Chivalry vs. Scott Levesque & Bernie Hughes

dX61G2L.jpgMHEy4YU.jpg vs. Msr7DxW.jpgI9fwGhU.jpg

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, The Chivalry defeated Scott Levesque and Bernie Hughes in 7:47 when Sir Anthony Henry defeated Bernie Hughes by pinfall.

Rating: 44

Match 4: Levi Andrews vs. Emilio Suarez

jee5VHL.jpg vs. 8gT5EHp.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Emilio Suarez defeated Levi Andrews in 10:35 by pinfall.

Rating: 34

Match 5: Leroy Disco & Melinda Bell vs. Danny Cool & Diana Gosselin

kAlHp55.jpg2ffzFYi.jpg vs. AkyeJir.jpgaM8W6or.jpg

In a poor match, Danny Cool and Diana Gosselin defeated Leroy Disco and Melinda Bell in 9:27 when Diana Gosselin defeated Melinda Bell by pinfall with a handful of tights. Danny Cool was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Rating: 36

Match 6: Spike Morgan vs. La Oscuridad

xjocTA7.jpg vs. uKbM6t2.jpg

In a decent match, Spike Morgan defeated La Oscuridad in 8:36 by pinfall with a Jumping Knee Plant.

Rating: 48

After winning the match, Spike Morgan requested a microphone and asked Daniel Loiselle to come to the ring.

DIrVef3.jpg

When Loiselle arrived, Morgan had the following to say:

"I want to apologise for my actions at SPW Extravaganza, I never meant to disrespect you, and I should have taken your hand like a man, because on the night, the better man won. I was simply dejected that I hadn't been able to get the job done."

He held out his hand, and Loiselle shook it to ease the tension between the pair.

Rating: 34

Match 7: SPW Tag Team Title Match- The Kuroki Boys © vs. Double Shot

otIrGJI.jpgAjjSNVs.jpg vs. ymkrBm7.jpgq56n1eQ.jpg

In a decent match, The Kuroki Boys defeated Double Shot in 13:06 when Masao Kobayashi defeated Michael King by pinfall with a Flapjack. The Kuroki Boys make defence number 1 of their SPW Tag Team titles.

Rating: 35

Match 8: Number 1 Contenders Match- Friedrich Herzog vs. Perry Bryant

6RNouzl.jpg vs. b3eCW1P.jpg

The bout between Friedrich Herzog and Perry Bryant was a chaotic affair, characterised by a host of interference.

8gT5EHp.jpg

Right from before the bell, Emilio Suarez ran to the ring to attack Perry Bryant and was then hauled away to the back by a legion of officials.

About 10 minutes in, Joe Boone walked to the ring with Levi Andrews and Nathan Hayes and they watched on from a distance.

Before Joe Boone could get involved however, Emilio Suarez returned to the ring to stop him and the two men then brawled away from the ring as Hayes and Andrews were held back by the same officials as before.

0GMbMmW.jpg

The referee was also distracted by the melee at ringside and this allowed Nathan Hayes to retrieve a chair, he then got in the ring.

lj2pNRH.jpg

but just as he was about to hit Herzog with it from behind, Levi Andrews snatched the chair away, cracked Hayes over the head with it and left Herzog to finish off Bryant in 11:52 by pinfall.

SPW Tag Team Title Match- The Kuroki Boys © vs. Double Shot

Spike Morgan vs. La Oscuridad

The Chivalry vs. Scott Levesque & Bernie Hughes

Joe Boone & Nathan Hayes vs. No Nonsense

7 out of 8- Another very impressive score, just undone by the mixed tag match. I think this was the least impressive line up for a show we have run up to this point but hopefully the storyline elements kept things interesting.

Number 1 Contender Match- Friedrich Herzog vs. Perry Bryant

Looks like Herzog is face now so I go wit him so that you can solidify his face status by having Alliance screw him again.

SPW Tag Team Title Match- The Kuroki Boys © vs. Double Shot

First defense so Double Shot have to wait their turn.

Spike Morgan vs. La Oscuridad

Morgan has been on the roll lately and I don´t see Oscuridad stopping him either

Leroy Disco & Melinda Bell vs. Danny Cool & Diana Gosselin

I just don´t see Cool winning over Disco even if Gosselin would benefit to go over Bell

Levi Andrews vs. Emilio Suarez

Suarez is step above Andrews so unless the plan is to promote those DQ losses further I see him winning here.

The Chivalry vs. Scott Levesque & Bernie Hughes

Named team over random pairing

Austyn Taylor vs. Roland Pascual

Young Guns seem to be dropped from tag champs to jobbers pretty quickly but maybe this is a chance for Pascual to gain some momentum back

Joe Boone & Nathan Hayes vs. No Nonsense

Boone is the deciding factor here.

6 out of 8- Not bad. Interesting comment about the Young Guns being dropped to jobbers quickly- I think you're right, though that wasn't really the intention at the time- I think it's because, given the way the effganic universe is, if it becomes clear that someone is not going to be a main event player, they are always vulnerable to being jobbed out because you need to find out who else might be a potential main eventer pretty quickly, or you run out of main event matches!

Part of the reason why I feel that way might be my own way of booking things as I tend to play with Fog of War (or scouting in TEW2020) on which means that there´s no guarantee that new guys I bring in could perform and it takes me few shows to figure out were they should stand in terms of push (and that makes me less likely to give them wins until I know what they can do). The other thing is that I tend to be very strick on not putting someone less popular over more popular guy if the difference is more than few points (since popularity at least with small companies in TEW2016 was very easy to lose and very hard to gain once you got past 17 popularity) unless I just don´t care that the more popular guy would lose popularity. So I think that my own booking habits likely make me overly reactive to established guys losing to newbies (espesially when it happens multiple matches on the row) as you just seem to have bit of a differend booking philosophy than what I do have. Overall, if Young Guns were at 17 popularity as I would assume they were, then there wasn´t much actual harm done to them (they will quickly gain back any popularity they potentially lost from the losses) and few wins could easily get them back into midcard or above position if you choose to do so.

I also use Fog of War but interestingly enough (and apologies, this might show me to be a complete heathen!), I NEVER use the attributes in any way. When I am scouting for talent, I go on their picture alone, and when I have signed a wrestler, I go by their match ratings to help me decide if they are worthy of a push or not- I've just never been interested in looking at what they are good or bad at (which is why some of the matches get lower ratings than they otherwise would) for me it's just more realistic- I wouldn't know, say, that Wrestler A was no good at hardcore matches until they had one, that's the way I play the game.

When it comes to the popularity numbers, yes I do look at these, but not regularly, more just as a way to see what effect my booking has had, and therefore it doesn't really play into how I book the shows. VERY interesting to realise, after so many years playing, that I play it SO differently to others!

SPW Pro Wrestling 28 Aftermath & News

Aftermath

Going into this show, Southern Pro Wrestling management were well aware that SPW Pro Wrestling 28 was going to struggle to hit the heights that a number of previous events had- Joe Boone and Emilio Suarez had been booked in matches that weren't highly significant, while Daniel Loiselle wasn't booked to wrestle at all. The main event was also a little bit of a gamble with the previous match between the men in it only yielding a rating of 32. While Herzog and Bryant did improve on their previous encounter, it was only marginally better, earning a rating of 34, what's more, with the economy having taken a hit somewhat in the South East of the US, the attendance figure was noticeably down on the previous few shows.

There were plus points- firstly, Joe Boone continues to handle himself very well on the microphone- and he has had to with all the storyline work that has taken place lately. Secondly, the fans did seem to take to Herzog as a babyface well, which wasn't guaranteed given they'd spent the previous 2 years booing him. Also, Perry Bryant was a revelation on the microphone and cut a great promo himself, which increased the heat on him (and indirectly help Herzog's popularity with the crowd). What's more, Squire Albert Berik and Tetsuyuki Isihbashi put on stand out performances in their respective matches, as has become a regular occurrence from both, while La Oscuridad and Spike Morgan's battle was further proof that both men look to be heading for starring roles in the future.

News

8wMMztk.jpg

In recruitment news, Jeff Waterman became Southern Pro Wrestling's latest signing a couple of weeks after SPW Pro Wrestling 28. Waterman, a 22 year old British wrestler trained by Sir Anthony Henry, was set to come in as a street tough thug type character, named Big Z.

CdzKKCg.jpg

In the main event of PoG's Bedlam Brawl event, which took place on 23rd June in front of 258 people, Pygmalion Angel made his 2nd successful title defence of the PoG World Title against PoG Arena Champion, Peter Jelinek (Jelinek's title was not on the line). In other results from the show, Berg Andersson retained his PoG National Title by count out against Jozef Patrovic and, in the match of the night (with a rating of 32), Nikolaj Hansen pinned Marek Wozniak to set himself up as the number 1 contender to the World Title.

I do agree with you on it being more realistic to just test the guys out.

I do take a look at the stats personally but especially with TEW2016 and FoW, you kind of have to just test how they do in matches to figure how good they actually are and that´s my preferred way as well as with Fow/scouting, stats tend to lie a lot and someone who you thought would be good could be pretty bad and vice versa. That said, I do use stats as tie breaker so for example, if someone has weak top row skills and other guy has strong, I pretty much always pick the one that scouts as strong (unless I specifically look to hire jobber). More important than stats, in TEW2016 I had two main things that I looked, first was that I didn´t want anyone who was negative backstage influence and second was that they should be at least average as both face and heel stats. The first one is pretty straight forward, bad backstage rating means negative things so I want to keep it as high as possible which means that I don´t usually hire negative backstage guys unless I have to and even then they are the most likely guys to get cut. The exception to that rule was that I sometimes did hire negative influence guys as jobbers but they never got even midcard status as long as I had other alternatives. Average face/heel requirement was less important but I preferred those over someone who had weak on either face or heel simply because I prefer to have an option to turn any of my wrestlers and I always felt that weak face/heel stat just made the guy in question as one dimensional and lessened his/her potential usage for me. But, yeah, interesting to hear how others play the game and how they book.

SPW 4th of July Show 1922 Preview

Below is the preview for SPW 4th of July Show 1922...

Come and join Southern Pro Wrestling as we celebrate the nation's birthday in the only way we know how- major matches, personal grudges and high stakes!

There is no prize in our sport bigger or more prestigious than the SPW World Title, and the lure of this golden chalice has split The Alliance right down the middle. At the 4th of July Show, Joe Boone will defend the World Title against former stablemate, Friedrich Herzog for the 2nd time in 3 months, but this time the odds are even, as Levi Andrews has made his allegiance to long time partner Herzog clear, perhaps neutralising the threat of Nathan Hayes, who was the difference maker last time out.

Speaking of Andrews and Hayes, they will face one another at the show, and so battle lines have been very clearly drawn between the 2 sides. At the conclusion of this night, will we see a new Champion crowned or will we see Joe Boone consolidate his position at the top of pro wrestling? Also, what will this night mean for the future of The Alliance?

In another rematch from SPW Extravaganza, the Mexican sensation, Emilio Suarez gets the opportunity to face the man who cost him his mask back at the 2nd Anniversary show, Perry Bryant, in what is sure to be a personal war. The last time these two met, Suarez was disqualified when the rage he felt for his opponent boiled over and he gave the referee no choice but to disqualify him. In order to get his vengeance, it seems that Suarez will have to keep his anger in check, and you can be sure that Bryant will not hesitate to exploit that fact.

It will be a triad of rematches at the event, when The Kuroki Boys defend their tag team titles against former champions, The Chivalry. Tetsuyuki Ishibashi and Masao Kobayashi managed to win the belts from their scheduled opponenents, back at SPW Extravaganza, and have since made one successful defence, versus Double Shot at SPW Pro Wrestling 28, but they know that Sir Anthony Henry and his squire, Albert Berik, are going to be desperate to win the belts back.

Thomas Appleseed has been causing Young Guns all kinds of problems since he arrived in SPW earlier this year. Firstly he defeated both in singles competition using underhanded tactics, then he recruited Austyn Taylor to defeat them in a tag match at SPW Extravaganza. Then last month, Appleseed promised to leave the ring area and not interfere in Taylor's singles match with Roland Pascual, providing Dragon Lee did the same, safe in the knowledge that he had Consuelo Montero waiting in the wings, the latest wrestler to join his cause, who helped Taylor pick up another win. This threesome, that are now calling themselves The Faithful, will compete in 6-person intergender action as they take on Young Guns and Denise Alessio.

Montero and Alessio are part of a burgeoning women's wrestling division which Melinda Bell is currently on top of as SPW Women's Champion. She has run into some trouble as of late though, in the shape of Diana Gosselin who, after defeating Ryo Matsuda at the 2nd Anniversary Show has been angling for a title shot. Until now, none has been forthcoming as Melinda Bell already had her hands full with former Champion, Diamanta. This allowed Gosselin to help herself to some key tag team victories with Bell on the opposite side of the ring, and now she will finally get her chance to fight for the belt.

Daniel Loiselle has become somewhat of a mentor to young and impressive Spike Morgan over the past few months, stretching back to the number 1 contender round robin tournament where Morgan tested Loiselle all the way in their bout, with Loiselle just coming through with victory. That night, Morgan earned the former World Champion's respect, and Loiselle was eager for a rematch between the two, which took place at SPW Extravaganza. After Loiselle emerged victorious again, the impetuous Morgan refused to shake Loiselle's hand but 1 month ago, Morgan made a public apology to Loiselle and the two are looking to work together to get some glory, as they team up to face Double Shot.

All of this action, plus a further 3 matches that will make your 4th of July holiday, one to remember!
