SPW Festive Fury 1921 Preview

Southern Pro Wrestling's 2nd Festive Fury show looks set to be the biggest night in grappling history to date in what looks set to be a night of high emotion and higher stakes!

Three title matches will take place on the night, with none more important than the World Title match between Champion, Joe Boone and former Champion, Daniel Loiselle. In a strange quirk of this contest, both men had a hand in the other being in the match- many argue that Joe Boone would not have won the World Title from El Espiritu had it not been for the inadvertent help of Loiselle, in the meantime, some critics point out that Loiselle's only victory over former champion El Espiritu, to earn the title shot against Boone, came as a result of a distraction Boone himself caused.

Daniel Loiselle and Joe Boone have met in singles action on one previous occasion, way back at SPW Pro Wrestling 2, where the contest ended in a double disqualification after outside interference. That was Boone's one and only opportunity to face Loiselle while the Canadian was World Champion and it's a been a point of anger for Boone ever since. This is also Loiselle's first chance to win back the title he lost in February earlier this year. Pride, glory, revenge and gold- it's all on the line as Joe Boone faces the challenge of Daniel Loiselle at Festive Fury!

The SPW Tag Team titles are also up for grabs at the show, as Young Guns have given The Chivalry a rematch following The Chivalry's disqualification victory over Young Guns at Octoberfest. The Chivalry represent what must surely be the steepest challenge Young Guns have faced since winning the belts back in February. A combination of the wily and experienced Sir Anthony Henry and the powerful and charismatic Squire Albert Berik, could The Chivalry be the ones to prise the gold from the grasp of Young Guns?

The third title to be contested at Festive Fury sees Diamanta, SPW's first ever Women's Champion, defend the belt against Melinda Bell in a long awaited bout between the two. The pair were supposed to face one another in the final of the tournament to crown the first champion at Octoberfest, but Melinda Bell had suffered an injury in her semi-final match that meant she was unable to compete and the title was awarded to Diamanta by forfeit. Melinda Bell is back to full fitness now however, and is determined to claim the title she contends she would have won at Octoberfest had doctors given her the all clear that night.

The leader of The Alliance, Levi Andrews might be happy with the fact that his group finally have possession of the World Title, but since that happened he's had a little problem with Dustin David. Back at Octoberfest, David & Mike Lewis overcame The Alliance pairing of Andrews and Nathan Hayes and then one month later, in a rematch between the two teams which was supposed to decide the new number 1 contenders to the tag titles, the 2 teams fought to double disqualification when Andrews and David couldn't be broken up. Going into this match however, Levi Andrews holds the upper hand in their war after costing David the Mid South Title earlier this month in Beaumont, Texas. Now the two men face each other in singles action, and you can bet neither will be giving an inch!

Earlier this month, The Kuroki Boys and Escuadron went to a time limit draw in their first ever 2 on 2 contest. Both teams have petitioned SPW management to organise a rematch at Festive Fury, and management have acceded to their request meaning the two teams will do battle again at this major event.

Another tag team who have achieved less success as of late are Night Fever who have experienced some difficulty between them in recent months. Their problems reached a boiling point at SPW Pro Wrestling 21 when Leroy Disco, in a major singles match against Japanese Sumo legend, Saita Kuroki, was cost the match when Danny Cool attempted to interfere on his behalf and ended up costing him the match. Disco stormed out of the arena that night proclaiming the tag team done. However, earlier this month, Disco had a change of heart and said that he felt the two needed to get some of their frustrations out in order to put the slight rift between them in the past- and the best way to do that was to face each other. At Festive Fury then, Leroy Disco will face Danny Cool, as partners collide!

All this plus El Espiritu, Friedrich Herzog, Nathan Hayes and Spike Morgan in action as SPW puts on the biggest event in its history- be there!

Also, this poster for the event was recovered amongst the possessions of Don Loomis some years after he passed away:

SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. Daniel Loiselle

Pretty sure Boone will retain here, altohugh I don´t think it will be entirely clean win, some shenanigans will likely happen, caused either by El Espiritu or by rest of the Alliance (or both).

SPW Tag Team Title Match- Young Guns © vs. The Chivalry

Henry´s loss in last show was bit of a shock to me and made me wonder if I´m overrating Henry or under rating Pascual. That said, I still go with Chivalry here thinking that Henry´s loss might mean they are indeed winning the belts now that champs had gotten some rub from them.

Dustin David vs. Levi Andrews

Thinking this might be another slight upset as David have looked to be solid in-ring guy so far and Andrews is getting there on age.

The Kuroki Boys vs. Escuadron

Since I ahve Chivalry getting the belts, it suddenly makes more sense to have Kuroki Boys get teh win here.

Perry Bryant vs. El Espiritu

Bryant might have win over Kuroki but Espiritu is still bit too much for him.

Friedrich Herzog & Nathan Hayes vs. No Nonsense

Herzog looks to be your number four guy behind Loiselle, Espiritu and Boone so I don´t see him being on the losing end here.

SPW Women's Title Match- Diamanta © vs. Melinda Bell

Bell was likely supposed to be first champ but things happened and I don´t see you cutting Diamanta´s title reign this short.

Spike Morgan & The Puzzler vs. Double Shot

I could see Double Shot winning by pinning Puzzler but this feud have been here to promote Morgan so I go with him.

Leroy Disco vs. Danny Cool

I assume Disco will win and that they will break after the match. Will be interesting to see were Cool goes if the break-up happens, will he become jobber or does he find spot higher on the pecking order?

"Earlier this month, I had the chance to face World Champion, Joe Boone, for the SPW World Heavyweight Title, and though I gave it my best, I was unable to win the belt that I have coveted these past couple of years. It got me thinking about where I am in my career and what's next in my life. I've had a great career, both as a Sumo Wrestler and a professional wrestler, I have achieved nearly everything I ever set out to and though there are one or two things not ticked off the wish list, I couldn't be more happy with everything I have done. After talking things over with my family, and with the promoters of Southern Pro Wrestling, I have decided to retire. It was far from an easy decision to make, but it is absolutely the right one, for me, for my health and for my family, to bow out now while I'm still a top contender. I will still be around for a little bit yet, to allow me to say goodbye to the fans who have cheered me on the past couple of year, and my last match will take place, back in here in Jackson, in February at the 2nd Anniversary Show. For now, I will just say thank you to all of you who has cheered for me, I hope it's been as fun for you as it has for me".

Rating: 21

Match 7: Dustin David vs. Levi Andrews

xmDEPG9.jpg vs. jee5VHL.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, Dustin David drew with Levi Andrews in 7:52 following a double count out when both men were tearing lumps out of each other outside the ring and eventually brawled all the way to the back.

9TS3Mud.jpgF0SO0Oy.jpg vs. dX61G2L.jpgMHEy4YU.jpg

Rating: 39

Match 9: SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. Daniel Loiselle

0GMbMmW.jpg vs. DIrVef3.jpg

After a gruelling 20 minutes of action, both Boone and Loiselle were back on their feet, trading tired blows back and forth. As Daniel Loiselle looked to be gaining the upper hand, El Espiritu came to ringside.

MZGEcR1.jpg

El Espiritu entered the ring with a steel chair and looked at Loiselle, the referee pleaded with El Espiritu not to touch the challenger, indicating it would mean he'd have no choice but to disqualify Joe Boone.

El Espiritu then turned to Joe Boone instead, and knocked him down with the chair, causing the referee to call for the bell and disqualify Loiselle in 20:46.

After the match, El Espiritu left the ring shrugging his shoulders and motioning with his hands that it was now 1-1 between the two of them.

<p>December 1921 Aftermath & News</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Aftermath</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

It was party time backstage after the show as the roster and management celebrated the end of their 1921 schedule with the best match in company history- Joe Boone and Daniel Loiselle had managed a 50 rated match which had never been achieved before. Both Boone and Loiselle were pointed out as a great example of what was possible in the ring to the rest of the roster. </p><p> </p><p>

Of the rest of the roster, there were plenty of good performances for management to be happy about- The Kuroki Boys, Escuadron, Young Guns and The Chivalry all put on a great show, La Oscuridad was once again a stand out performer in his team's loss to The Kuroki Boys. In the meantime, Perry Bryant held his own in there with El Espiritu. The future of the company was looking bright. </p><p> </p><p>

From the fans perspective, one of the big events of the night was the announcement by Saita Kuroki of his upcoming retirement. In truth, Kuroki had not been entirely happy with it, but Don Loomis had decided that Kuroki could no longer realistically perform at the level required for a guy near the top of the card, and it would be better for Kuroki to retire while still near the top, rather than slowly diminish in his importance. Kuroki agreed to announce his retirement on the basis that it was a made a big deal of and that he could return on an occasional basis in the future, which Loomis was happy to accept. </p><p> </p><p>

SPW Pro Wrestling 23 Preview

Here is the press release for SPW Pro Wrestling 23:

Join Southern Pro Wrestling as it ushers in the New Year with a night of wrestling fun that is sure to round off the festive season in style!

Fresh off of the disappointment of not capturing the SPW World Title at SPW Festive Fury, Daniel Loiselle continues his war with The Alliance as he teams with Dustin David & Mike Lewis to face the trio of Friedrich Herzog, Levi Andrews and Nathan Hayes. Dustin David and Levi Andrews have recently become embroiled in a bitter war and were unable to contain their emotions as they were both counted out at Festive Fury, the pair will have another chance to settle their differences at SPW Pro Wrestling 23 in this 6-man tag team collision.

History will also be made at the event as Diamanta and The Chivalry will team up together to face Melinda Bell and Young Guns in the first ever multi-gender contest in pro wrestling history. On the one side of the ring you have both the SPW Women's Champion and the newly-crowned SPW Tag Team Champions against their rivals, and most recent challengers. The Chivalry took the tag titles from Young Guns at Festive Fury and will be eager to follow that up with another victory here, in the meantime, Diamanta was only able to defeat Bell by stoppage at the same event, when the brave challenger refused to submit, despite what most have been agony to her injured knee. Bell will continue to carry a weakened knee into this contest and will have to work hard to defend it against her opportunistic opponents.

6-man tag action is the order of the day at SPW Pro Wrestling 23, as there will be 2 further contests at the show as the men and women of SPW look to position themselves for the year ahead. That is of particular concern to Saita Kuroki who shocked the world at SPW Festive Fury when he announced his retirement from the sport. Kuroki's last match will take place at the 2nd Anniversary show at the end of February, but before then he requested the chance to team up with his proteges one last time before hanging up the boots for good, so he and The Kuroki Boys will be up against Danny Cool & Escuadron at SPW Pro Wrestling 23!

Additionally, Spike Morgan, who has been having trouble with a number of other wrestlers in recent months, has a chance to get his hands on all 3 as he teams with No Nonsense against Austyn Taylor & Double Shot in what is sure to be a physical matchup. In one other match, Ryo Matsuda and Consuelo Montero will face one another in a match that will be important for both women as they attempt to reboot their careers after a tough start for both since joining SPW in September.

On top of all of this, Joe Boone has vowed to be in Jackson for the event, and has promised not only a big surprise, but also to formally announce his New Year's Resolution list to all the fans- what will Boone announce? What has the World Champion got to say for himself? Be there to find out!

Full Card

Diamanta & The Chivalry vs. Melinda Bell & Young Guns

Faces going to get one over heels here as they just lost title matches to them.

Danny Cool & Escuadron vs. Saita Kuroki & The Kuroki Boys

Kuroki might be retiring soon but I still think he´s better than Cool and the two tag teams cancel each other´s out.

Ryo Matsuda vs. Consuelo Montero

Heel champ, so face win here.

Austyn Taylor & Double Shot vs. Spike Morgan & No Nonsense

Double Shot got their win last show, now it´s back to jobbing for them.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Spike Morgan and No Nonsense defeated Austyn Taylor and Double Shot in 12:29 when Spike Morgan defeated Michael King by pinfall with a Jumping Knee Plant.

Match 2: Ryo Matsuda vs. Consuelo Montero

In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Consuelo Montero defeated Ryo Matsuda in 5:54 by pinfall after using a foreign object.

Rating: 19

Next up, Daniel Loiselle came to the ring to address the crowd:

DIrVef3.jpg

"I'm not going to come out here and rant and rave about what took place 2 weeks ago at Festive Fury. I know why El Espiritu did what he did, I'm not looking to escalate things- as far as I am concerned, that makes us even- us being at each other's throats is doing nothing for either of us and so I consider us all square now, there will be no reprisals and no more escalations- it's over. But, let me also just say this so that I am perfectly clear- we're not friends, and if El Espiritu is in a match for the title with Joe Boone in the future, or he is being attacked by The Alliance like the dogs they are, I won't be there for support, or to run interference, from now on, you stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours.

Now, when it comes to Joe Boone, you just name the place and I will be there, I won't be hard to find, if you really consider yourself a fighting champion, as you have said in the past, then you will give me another shot soon!"

Rating: 28

Match 3: Saita Kuroki & The Kuroki Boys vs. Danny Cool & Escuadron

sMHj4ZP.jpgotIrGJI.jpgAjjSNVs.jpg vs. AkyeJir.jpguKbM6t2.jpgzWG0y1A.jpg

In a poor match, Saita Kuroki and The Kuroki Boys defeated Danny Cool and Escuadron in 11:38 when Saita Kuroki defeated Chico de Oro by pinfall.

Rating: 38

After the match, La Oscuridad dropkicked Kuroki to the ground which prompted The Kuroki Boys to resume their battle with Escuadron. The two teams engaged each other in a wild brawl that quickly made it's way down the aisle and to the back.

Danny Cool was left in the ring with Kuroki, and he started to put the boots to the man who would be retiring in just over a month.

kAlHp55.jpg

He was stopped however, by Leroy Disco, who came to the ring and pulled Danny Cool away. Disco tried to reason with his partner but Cool simply walked away.

Rating: 21

Next up, Joe Boone came out in front of the crowd smiling.

0GMbMmW.jpg

"Firstly, let me just say, happy New Year." Boos sing out across the venue.

"It's traditional at this time of the year to make some resolutions for the 12 months ahead, and I am no different. I have pledged to train twice as hard as I was last year, to keep myself in peak physical condition and represent the SPW as YOUR World Champion! I have vowed to come out here and talk to you more often, engage with the fans of Southern Pro Wrestling as a great ambassador for the sport. But perhaps the most important New Year's resolution I have made is to be the most fighting champion in the history of Southern Pro Wrestling. I will be giving everybody and anybody a chance at this World Title- with one exception.

You see, when Daniel Loiselle was World Champion, we had a match for the belt which ended in a no-contest because of interference. Over the next 9 months of Daniel Loiselle's title reign, do you know how many rematches I received against, the "great" Champion? ZERO. None. Daniel Loiselle never granted me another chance at the belt. Well, that's fine, because now the tables have turned, and Daniel Loiselle, you will not receive another title shot from me, so long as I am Champion, you've had your chance, you blew it, now you don't get another.

But I am going to be the most fighting Champion ever, and to prove it, even though it is my night off, I have requested that SPW let me defend this title tonight against one of the top contenders! He's a hero to many of you, a mysterious masked competitor, famed for his in-ring prowess and storied, successful career. Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, The Puzzler!

Rating: 39

Match 5: SPW World Title Match- Joe Boone © vs. The Puzzler

0GMbMmW.jpg vs. PoaDhOG.jpg

In a poor match, Joe Boone defeated The Puzzler in 6:39 by pinfall. Joe Boone makes defence number 3 of his SPW World title.

Rating: 37

Before the main event, it was El Espiritu's turn to come to the ring and address the crowd.

MZGEcR1.jpg

After he got into the ring, he passed Don Loomis a piece of paper, and Loomis spoke to the crowd.

4lD9Ews.jpg

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been asked by El Espiritu to relay a short message to you all. The message reads:

"I accept the truce offered by Daniel Loiselle tonight but I no longer wish to focus on him, and any friction between us, so let's leave it there. The only thing I care about is getting another title shot against Joe Boone, so I want to direct this message to Boone- name your price. I will do anything for another chance to win the title, just let me know what that is, and I will sign the contract."

b3eCW1P.jpg

Don Loomis is then interrupted when Perry Bryant makes his way to the ring and then takes the microphone off of Loomis. "This is a joke right? There is no way El Espiritu should get another chance at that title before me after I BEAT El Espiritu at Festive Fury!"

He then looks at Don Loomis "forget what Joe Boone wants, or what El Espiritu wants, YOU can't seriously think that El Espiritu deserves the next title shot!?

Don Loomis then told them both that it's not solely up to him, it also concerns the SPW executive committee, as well as the Champion himself, but that both men have given them all a number of things to consider.

Rating: 42

Match 6: Levi Andrews, Friedrich Herzog & Nathan Hayes vs. Dustin David, Daniel Loiselle & Mike Lewis

jee5VHL.jpg6RNouzl.jpglj2pNRH.jpg vs. xmDEPG9.jpgDIrVef3.jpgif10UOT.jpg

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The Alliance (Levi Andrews, Friedrich Herzog and Nathan Hayes) defeated Dustin David, Daniel Loiselle and Mike Lewis in 17:08 when Friedrich Herzog defeated Mike Lewis by pinfall.

Rating: 41

January 1922 Aftermath & News

Aftermath

Unbeknownst to the crowd, and pretty much everybody in SPW during the match, Chico de Oro suffered a very bad injury during the 6 man tag match featuring Escuadron & Danny Cool against The Kuroki Boys and Saita Kuroki. It was only when Chico de Oro arrived backstage that he informed the doctor of serious pain in his right knee which had started after Tetsuyuki Ishibashi had hit a dropkick onto it- unfortunately during the move, it was Chico de Oro's planted foot, and therefore he couldn't move out of the way as would be the norm. He was due to go for some tests later in the week, but the Doctor had said it didn't look good.

In terms of performances on the night, there was lots of happiness at the 3 talking segments, especially in that they each got better as the night wore on. Joe Boone is really beginning to hit his stride as a heel, and the great match with Loiselle at SPW Festive Fury has increased his confidence which is allowing him to perform with more freedom. It was also great to see Perry Bryant do a really good job in the segment with El Espiritu and Don Loomis. Though Loiselle continues to struggle on the microphone, there are definite signs of his improvement.

Meanwhile in the ring, Loiselle carried the main event, as he so often does, and Squire Albert Berik was given big credit for the mixed-six-person tag match being a success.

In their post-show meeting, Don Loomis, Frank Norris and Jay Lutter agreed that they were happy with the way that the story elements of the product were starting to really come together, but also agreed that the roster needed a little shake up, as a consequence they made the decision to release two talents from their contracts, and bring another 2 new talents in.

News

A week after the show, the results of Chico de Oro's test came through and it was very bad news- the Escuadron member was going to be out for at least a year, and it was also said that he may never return to the level of athletic ability he had prior to the injury.

In the meantime, it was announced that two members of the roster had been released from their contracts:

Mike Lewis had at one time looked like he had a real future in SPW, especially after his excellent match with Friedrich Herzog about a year ago, and his series with Sir Anthony Henry. The problem was that Jay Lutter, as the main creative force behind the stories in SPW, simply had no plans for him going forward. While Lewis could be a useful in-ring guy to have around, it was felt that wasn't a good enough reason for him to stay and that he was just taking up valuable space on the roster.

The Puzzler had never really made any headway in terms of being an important member of the roster. There was some eyebrows raised when his match against Friedrich Herzog at SPW Pro Wrestling 22 got a 43 rating, but short squash matches are Herzog's speciality (as shown in Herzog's match with Mike Lewis the previous year) and his World Title Match squash loss to Joe Boone at SPW Pro Wrestling 23 was the last they intended to use him.

In their place however, came 2 new signings:

Msr7DxW.jpg

Scott Levesque was a 21 year old native of Wisconsin who had impressed as a competitor at the National College Athletics championship in the 100 yard dash. Don Loomis was curious as to how guys from different sporting disciplines would adapt and perform in professional wrestling and so signed Levesque to a contract, intending to push him initially as a young, enthusiastic but still green wrestler, looking to make a name for himself.

aM8W6or.jpg

Diana Gosselin was from Montreal, Canada and at age 19 had began training with Diamanta who was from the same city. When Don Loomis had asked the women on the roster if any of them knew of any others who would be willing and able to compete in the ring, Diamanta put Gosselin forward and she was signed (at a very low rate of pay) after speaking to Loomis. The management team knew they needed more women in order for the division to have any kind of a future, and this was their first attempt at increasing its size.

3 out of 5- It's funny, sometimes I read the reasonings for your predictions and I wonder why I didn't look at it that way when I was booking! As I booked this so long ago though, I can't really remember the thinking behind some of these results!

2 out of 5- I feel bad because you've recently been expressing your excitement about The Puzzler, and just as quickly, I release him! I feel like I'm gonna get some backlash, but this is perhaps the draw back of booking so far in advance of publishing the results!

SPW Pro Wrestling 24 Preview

Here is the press release for SPW Pro Wrestling 24:

Southern Pro Wrestling and the biggest stars in grappling are back in Beaumont for another night of thrilling combat, tough competitors and high stakes!

Though Joe Boone may have vowed not to give Daniel Loiselle another shot at his SPW World Title, he has accepted a challenge from the Canadian to compete in the first ever 'Pick Your Partner' match where both men will get the chance to pick anybody they want to team with in the night's main event. Each man will reveal their picks moments before the bout in what should make for a fascinating spectacle in their ongoing rivalry. Remember, Joe Boone has made it clear that since he only received one shot at the World Title while Loiselle was Champion, Boone will not be providing Loiselle with another chance to dethrone him now he's Champion so this may be Loiselle's best chance to get his hands on the title holder.

Speaking of bitter rivalries, Levi Andrews and Dustin David have been doing battle now since early November when, as part of a tag team contest, the pair took exception to each other's tactics and lost their cool, causing the match to be thrown out. Levi Andrews then upped the stakes the last time SPW was in Beaumont when he cost David a match that was for the SPW Mid South Title. It was hoped their singles bout at SPW Festive Fury would settle the score between the pair, but it also ended inconclusively, this time by double count out. Now they are up against one another again, and it's anybody's guess as to what kind of chaos will occur!

After picking up a major victory over Escuadron at SPW Festive Fury, The Kuroki Boys have been named the number 1 contender to the SPW Tag Team Titles and will get their shot at SPW Pro Wrestling 24, exclusively for the fans in Texas! The Chivalry won the titles from Young Guns at the same show and will be making their first defence of the belts in this contest.

The SPW Mid South Title will also be on the line at the show as Nathan Hayes takes on relative newcomer, Spike Morgan in defence of the belt. When the Mid South Title was created in July of last year, it was stipulated that the belt must be defended every time a show in the Mid South region takes place, and the SPW executive committee decided that in spite of only minimal success thus far, his fleeting career has been impressive enough to give Morgan a major opportunity such as this.

The first ever women's tag team match will take place at the show as well when Melinda Bell & Ryo Matsuda team together to face the combination of Diamanta & Consuelo Montero. The competition in the women's division has been hotting up recently and there's no doubt that both of Diamanta's opponents, as well as her partner, will all be looking to impress the SPW Executive Committee as they vie for the chance to face her for the Women's Title at the 2nd Anniversary show coming up at the end of this month.

In addition to all of this, No Nonsense and Double Shot will be looking to put themselves in the conversation for potential tag title challengers as they take on one another, as will Young Guns and their old rivals Night Fever who in all of their previous 4 encounters have never been able to get the victory over the former Champions. Can Night Fever put their recent problems aside to finally claim victory over Dragon Lee & Roland Pascual, or will we be chalking another one up for Young Guns at SPW Pro Wrestling 24?
