Frederique would give higher ratings in matches and angles, but I'm not sure if how much you are paying him could be an issue. Could go either way

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to the Circle City Classic! I'm Marv Earnest and I'm joined tonight by my broadcast partner, the inimitable Honest Frank."

Frank, “It's good to be back ringside here in Indianapolis for another great night of professional wrestling -- and the stars are out tonight. Not only am I here, but so is Frederique! What a night!"

"American Eagle" Roger Monteiro versus Dreadnought w/ Andrew Gibson

The opening contest pit the experienced but still young Roger Monteiro, the American Eagle and pride of the Cheyenne Tribe against Dreadnought -- the young bull of Andrew Gibson’s cadre of warriors. Monteiro came out of the gate with a lot of fire. Despite being significantly smaller than his opponent, Monteiro did not show any intimidation. That might be more of a curse than a blessing though, because Dreadnought completely overwhelmed the smaller man. The big mastodon-like man tossed Monteiro around and hit him with a big running avalanche in the corner that he followed up with the Dread Bomb to get the win.

Dreadnought defeated Roger Monteiro in 5:03 with the Dread Bomb.

Kate Lilly and Debbie Rose walk out to the ring. Neither of them look happy as they take a microphone from Marvin Earnest and enter the ring.

Lilly, “Last month, Debbie and I came out to this ring against Tex-Mex and we mopped the floor with them. We did what we do better than any other team in the world. We wrestled and we won. We were promised an opportunity to challenge for the Confederation of the Territories World Tag Team Titles. Yet here we are.”

Lilly passes the microphone to Debbie Rose.

Rose, “On a big, big show like Circle City Classic and we don’t have a match? We were promised the World Tag Team Titles and if the Queens of the Damned have any sort of guts at all, they’ll be here next month with those belts on the line so they can get the ass whoopin’ they deserve and we can get what we deserve.”

Matt Blackburn versus Zippy Deverell

The young PGHW dojo product was up against the young brawler from Corbin, Kentucky. It was a slug fest between two young guys trying to prove themselves. They really laid their stuff in, with Blackburn really laying in his kicks and even hit a spinning backfist that was really nasty, but Zippy Deverell showed a willingness to do whatever it takes to win -- when he raked the eyes and even tried to bite Blackburn -- which got him a big reprimand from the official. Zippy ended up hitting the Spinning Bulldog to get the win.

Zippy Deverell defeated Matt Blackburn in 6:43 with a Spinning Bulldog.

The War Maidens walk from the back and to the ring. All of them are scheduled for action tonight. Steph Blake takes the microphone as the other three women flank her.

Blake, “Last month, we stood in this ring in combat and we lost. We lost because of rookie mistakes.”

Blake looks at her fellow Maidens.

Blake, “Tonight, we all have matches and tonight, my girls will not disappoint me or themselves. Tonight, we kick ass and we show the world that Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis is our domain. Our domain.”

Reece & Wells versus The Femme Fatales

Steph Blake and Black Diamond were not at ringside for this -- they left right after the promo and The Femme Fatales were up against Reece and Wells for the second time. The first time ended in a Double Count Out when both teams were, well, counted out. The Femme Fatales came out the gate motivated by Steph Blake -- and motivated by their loss last month (even though neither were pinned). They controlled the early portion of the match. Urena Frost, in particular, looks like she’s developing into a very good worker. She’s been working for CWWF and on every women’s independent show in the United States and Canada and the development was clear. She tossed Reece and Wells around the ring. Her raw power on display. Neema was the crafty, scientific heel, who focused on the neck and shoulder region of the opponents to wear them down for their signature move. Wells took the brunt of the punishment and made the hot tag to Reece -- who springboarded in for a big clothesline on Neema and then hit Frost with a big dropkick when she tried to illegally enter the ring. Neema was back to her feet and went to blindside Reece, who ducked under and then hit a big dropkick on Neema! Neema got up and Reece rolled her up with the small package and got the three count.

Reece & Wells defeated The Femme Fatales by fast roll up in 10:16.

Joy Ryder versus Black Diamond

After The Femme Fatales disappointing loss, Black Diamond came to the ring. She was the woman who was pinned in the eight woman tag last month and the athlete from Tennessee came out with something to prove against Joy Ryder. This match was mostly a one sided affair to showcase Black Diamond’s athleticism. Both women are still green and that showed in a couple of sloppy spots in the match, but both women, especially Diamond, could have bright futures. Diamond hit a big Belly to Belly Suplex -- (side Belly to belly, ala Magnum TA) on Ryder to get the clean victory and a little redemption for herself.

Black Diamond defeated Joy Ryder via pinfall in 5:51 with a Belly to Belly Suplex.

Nate "the Great" DeMarcus versus Original Sinner w/ Andrew Gibson

A hoss fight! Two big heavyweights (well, technically Original Sinner is bigger than a heavyweight) locking horns will always attract the crowd’s attention and with Gibson at ringside, the heat for this was excellent. Both men have legit athletic backgrounds -- Original Sinner in football and DeMarcus in wrestling and track and field. This was a physical match up. DeMarcus got to show off his power several times when he was able to lift Original Sinner for suplex and body slams that shook the ring -- and popped the crowd. People do always love to see big men get slammed. Sinner got to show his power and explosiveness when he deadlifted Nate DeMarcus for a backdrop in the center of the ring. It was a back and forth affair with Nate DeMarcus finally hitting his Snap Tackle and getting the win.

Nate DeMarcus defeated Original Sinner via pinfall in 9:08 after hitting him with a Snap Tackle.

Original Sinner sits up in the ring. He looks a little out of it as Andrew Gibson gets into the ring. He is quickly joined by Chip Martin, Dreadnought, and James Diaz. Gibson looks around at his soldiers.

Gibson, “You win some. You lose some. Tonight, we won some and we lost some, but tonight is just the beginning. This is a country built on violence. On blood. On conquering. This is a sport built on the same. Built on and by men willing to do the hard things. To take the things they want. To draw the line in the sand and we...We are drawing a line in the sand. Genesis is the beginning. It is the birth. In the beginning, there was pro wrestling. With Genesis, there will be something more. We are the next stage of evolution in this sport. We will take. We will conquer. We will take our setbacks in stride and we will settle the new frontier of what professional wrestling is becoming.”

Genesis exits the ring after the powerful message.

"Oklahoma Thunderbolt" Jason Patterson versus The Masked Mauler VII

This well.. This wasn’t good. The Masked Mauler has not been impressive on the roster so far and has mostly been used as enhancement for other workers. This was clearly a match designed to cool everything out, but both guys are incredibly green and this was incredibly awkward. They just didn’t click and they blew several spots. Their timing was a mess -- at one point Patterson and Mauler both lowered their heads like they were going to backdrop the other and they bonked heads against one another. Patterson got the win, mercifully ending the match, after he hit an Oklahoma Stampede.

Jason Patterson defeated The Masked Mauler via pinfall in 5:08 with the Oklahoma Stampede.

Zippy Deverell hit the ring. He was successful in his match against Matt Blackburn earlier tonight and Zippy is all smiles.

Zippy, “Zippy D baby. Zippy D came out tonight and got the job done. I did what I knew I’d always do if given the opportunity. I won. ‘Cause that’s what Zip does. He wins. I win. Whatever. Y’all know what I mean. And now y’all know that I mean business. I ain’t settlin’ for anything but the top. And it’s time y’all learn something about Zippy Deverell. Someting y’all may not know. That’s that I’m different than all of y’all. See, I look around at this crowd and I see a bunch of people who don’t know who they are. A bunch of slaves to the rules of society. Disenfranchised -- that’s right, I know that word -- and don’t even know it. Y’all drive your crappy cars to your crappy jobs. You make your little paycheck and go home to your crappy spouse and rowdy kids. You live your crappy, boring lives. Just existing -- and you look at someone like me and you look down on me. Why? ‘Cause I grew up a little different? ‘Cause I don’t play by the rules everyone else tells me I’m supposed to play by? See, Zippy Deverell knows who he is. My life is my own. I don’t play by nobodies rules but mine and here in Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis, y’all are all about to find out just what Zippy Deverell is capable of.”

Zippy tosses the microphone down and exits the ring.

The Dog Soldiers versus "Prime Time" Jack Pryde & "California Cool" Charlie Corner

Ace Youngblood and Wild Red Stallion have shown some real promise as a tag team. Pryde and Corner are two youngsters that are looking to establish themselves. They have good size, good looks, and good upside, but they aren’t an established team and Youngblood and Stallion are. Youngblood is a tag team specialist and he is clearly the leader of his team with Stallion. Stallion and Youngblood were in control for most of the match -- with Pryde and Corner, though they are heels, not being an experienced enough team to be on the same page consistently. Stallion hit his very impressive Lakota Cutter to get the win for his team.

The Dog Soldiers defeated Jack Pryde & Charlie Corner via pinfall in 9:03 after Stallion hit Pryde with the Lakota Cutter.

“Bump Machine” Ben Williams versus The Hangman

Veteran wrestler Ben Williams drew the Open Challenge tonight and he was completely steamrolled by The Hangman. The Hangman continues to embody the spirit of the Wild West Hangman, the embodiment of the Maurice Ogden poem. Williams got in zero offense. Not even a punch -- and the only reason the match lasted as long as it did was Hangman taking his time before hitting the massive Chokeslam.

The Hangman defeated Ben Williams in 0:52 via pinfall after hitting him with a Chokeslam.

The Wolf Pack w/ Mark Hyatt versus The Rock City Stars ©

The third tag match of the evening and the first of three straight title matches. The Rock City Stars were putting their titles on the line against The Wolf Pack -- a team they met in the finals of the March Madness tournament. Tonight isn’t a tournament final though and both teams are fresh and ready for action. This was a well paced story. The Stars came out of the gate looking strong. They definitely looked like the more experienced team. On the outside, Mark Hyatt was a bundle of energy. A young Shane Sneer as he tried to get his team into it. The Pack were able to seize control and took every shortcut they could think of as they isolated Ryan Turner. Turner can sell his ass off and with his long blonde hair and good looks -- the women in the audience (and some of the men, if we’re being honest) are big fans of his and really begged for him to make the tag -- or something. Anything to stop the beating. They hit their trademark front facelock-second rope knee drop combo and came very close to winning. Stan Manna used up his one save and couldn’t make a save on several more close calls. The Wolf Pack, despite their youth, are a very intune tag team. They clearly have a very bright future if they stay together as a team.

Turner leapt over a bent-over Sione Tokoeka (who was looking for a back drop) to tag in Stan Manna who came in like a house of fire. Big open hand strikes. Big knee lift. Swinging neckbreaker. The people were roaring behind him when he tagged back in Ryan Turner for the Six String Shooter and the first successful defense of the CWI Tag Team Titles.

The Rock City Stars defeated The Wolf Pack in 12:39 via pinfall with Ryan Turner hit Tokoeka with a Six String Shooter. The Rock City Stars made their first successful defense of the CWI Tag Team Championship.

The Rock City Stars are all smiles following up their victory to retain the CWI Tag Team Titles. The crowd is beyond ecstatic for their successful defense -- when suddenly three men comes from over the barricade and hit the ring.

These aren’t just any three men. They are blond and Canadian (you can tell that because they’re wearing Maple Leaf t-shirts). The men are Philippe LaGrenier, Ozzie Goldstein, and Flash Savage. They blindside the Rock City Stars and put the boots to them. The crowd boos heavily when Ozzie and Flash lift up the Tag Team Titles and hold them high, before draping them over The Rock City Stars.

Steffi Chee versus "The Mistress of the DDT" Steph Blake ©

The second title match of the evening -- and the third match for a member of the War Maidens. Blake was looking to make her first title defense here tonight. Chee was clearly motivated to win the top title in her fourth different company. This was a battle of veterans who both know each other and know their way around the ring. They took their time and really told the story of Blake being a champion who will do whatever it takes to retain and Chee being a highly motivated challenger. At one point, Chee hit her Mafia Kick -- but it knocked Steph Blake out of the ring and bought her enough time to recover just enough to kick out. Blake was able to use some ring positioning to keep the referee from seeing her used a closed fist that knocked Chee loopy enough for her to hit the Slingshot DDT

Steph Blake defeated Steffi Chee via pinfall in 18:22 with a Slingshot DDT to make her first successful title defense.

Frederique versus "The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood ©

The main event of the evening. Frederique versus Conner Threepwood for the CWI Championship. Frederique is an incredibly experienced grappler -- mostly known for tag team work, he has achieved success as a singles competitor. This is Conner Threepwood’s fourth attempted title defense. The beginning of the match was tentative as both men worked to figure each other out. They’ve never been in the ring with each other before this match. They did some nice chain wrestling -- with Frederique showing that despite being on the other side of 40 and the back 9 of his career, he still has a lot of gas in the tank. He was able to go hold for hold with Threepwood until Threepwood got the cravat locked in and used that to hit a cravat suplex that looked like it really worked over Frederique’s neck.

Frederique took a powder out of the ring and when Threepwood followed, Frederique ran. Threepwood laid chase and Frederique rolled in the ring and when Conner followed, Frederique hit him with a knee to the temple that got Frederique control of the match. Frederique went to work after this. He targeted the arm of Threepwood -- trying to take away his ability to hold a grip for a suplex or the Stretch Plum. He really worked the arm over and Threepwood sold it like everything killed his arm. Even on the hope spots, he protected his left arm and did everything with his right arm -- an arm drag, a hip toss -- and when he tried to use his left to help with a suplex, it gave out.

Frederique came close to winning several times. He hit a DDT that looked like it should have ended the match, but the champion got his foot over the bottom rope. Frederique looked for the piledriver, but Threepwood countered with a back drop and began his big comeback -- still protecting the left arm. He hit a one arm snap suplex and started slapping his fist off his shoulder to get the feeling back into his arm. He shook his arm -- all trying to tell the crowd that he was trying to get the blood flowing. He hit a second suplex and then locked in a sleeper hold. Frederique countered by pushing off the ropes with his feet and taking them both to the ground with a pin attempt. Threepwood kicked out and transitioned the sleeper into his Stretch Plum -- a beautifully smooth transition and the Indiana Strangler wrenched in the hold, bad arm and all and Frederique became the fourth straight man to submit.

Conner Threepwood defeated Frederique by submission with the Stretch Plum in 21:16 to retain the CWI Championship. Threepwood made his fourth successful title defense.

Marvin Earnest joins Conner Threepwood in the ring. Earnest is carrying a microphone and a black bag. Conner Threepwood is sweaty and breathing heavy from his battle with Frederique.

Earnest, “Conner, allow me to be the first to congratulate you on another successful title defense. This marks your fourth straight defense -- and your fourth straight submission victory. How do you feel?”

Threepwood, “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sore and exhausted. Frederique is a hell of an athlete and he brought everything he had tonight. I respect the hell out of that man. He gave me a hell of a fight but I weathered the storm and I’m still the CWI Champion.”

Earnest, “That’s actually why I’m in the ring right now. Earlier today, I was told by CWI management that the Confederation of the Territories had sanctioned the CWI Heavyweight Championship to officially become the COTT Mid American Championship. So if you’ll allow me…”

Marvin hands Conner the microphone so he can reach into the black bag and pull out:

<p>We are now into our second quarter predictions! This show -- and the following three (taking us through the Summer) will compromise our second quarter prediction race. We started off the quarter hot -- with twenty predictions coming in for the Circle City Classic! We had one person (Hazemore) not only guess every match correctly, but also guessed that the Bump Machine himself, Ben Williams, would come in to do the honors for The Hangman. <span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;">Hello and thanks for coming back to the Pro Wrestling Reporter for your dose of wrestling news. This shouldn't be a long update but I wanted to make sure to give you all some important news.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;">

First, from a local wrestling standpoint, Ozzie Goldstein, Philippe LaGrenier, and Flash Savage have signed on fulltime with Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. Several months ago, I reported that there was a rumor they had a couple of guys signed that hadn't debuted yet and these were the three guys. Flash Savage has been working steadily since leaving NOTBPW when it merged with CGC to form CWA -- he's currently employed by L-Ring and CWT in addition to CWI. Philippe LaGrenier has been working for Black Maple Championship Wrestling where he is one half of the BMCW Tag Team Champions with Bobby Thomas. Ozzie has not been able to find work until CWI. Rumor is that CWI management is very high on the three. I know that Marvin Earnest has always thought highly of Flash and Ozzie -- having worked with them during their MAW run so I expect the trio to be positioned strongly.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In even bigger news, Remo Richardson has signed with United States Pro Wrestling. Richardson has been associated with SWF his whole career but was said to be furious with the Eisens for bringing back Steve Frehley. Considering it to be a slap in the face to what he has achieved, Richardson entertained offers for the first time in his career when his contract came up. He had big money offers from TCW, USPW, and CWA in addition to SWF. He made the decision to go to USPW and this is a major loss for SWF. USPW also just signed El Leon, Sammy Bach, Leigh Burton, Chris Flynn, Big Smack Scott, and Killer Shark to contracts. Packer's organization has been hyper-aggressive under Rich Moeny at poaching stars and continue to build their cadre of talent.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"><span style="font-size:12px;">

I had my windows open and could hear the city. It was late but living in the heart of downtown meant that the city really didn't sleep. Especially on the weekends. I was feeling great. Truly great. We had hit it out of the park. Absolutely out of the park. Circle City Classic had been a big success. Almost one hundred paying fans -- our best gate yet. Frederique and Conner tore the house down. It wasn't going to win match of the year, but it was going to get attention. It was going to tell the world that Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis didn't just present little rinky-dink shows to small audiences, but that they were presenting quality professional wrestling at affordable prices. We were a growing business. A budding business. If this kept up, I might have to get an actual office. The people at the Fountain Square Theatre did offer me some office space if I wanted it, but I wasn't sure I was ready for that financial burden -- or to tie myself down longterm to a venue that the company didn't own.

I took a long drink from my beer and stared out at the city. It was a good view. The air was clean. There weren't ships in the harbor pumping steam into the air. This wasn't the Eastern Seaboard. This was a good clean Midwestern city on the rise and we were building a wrestling company to be proud of. I had finally gotten to debut the Canadian Blonds -- I chose to drop the 'E' to make it a little different and a little bit more masculine feeling but I loved Ozzie and Flash. I had from when they worked in Baltimore. They were a good team -- twice Mid Atlantic Tag Champs. They had really developed and since neither one was brought in to the CWA, they would make great additions to the roster. Philippe was a really good hand -- and I was shocked he hadn't ever gotten a real money run anywhere. I was hoping to change that. The three of them were Canadian and blond and good workers, so I had big plans for them. Marquee kind of plans that would give me a real top program to carry the shows through the summer and fall.

The biggest disappointment for me so far was that both Brazzle and Chee were going to call it quits over the summer. They told me on the same day. The same damn day. I liked both women. They were good in the locker room. Positive people and good leaders, but I wouldn't be keeping both on. Chee would stay, I'd already talked to her. She'd become the lead agent for the women and would shift into a personality role -- probably an interviewer and someone to give occasional updates from 'management'. I didn't want an authority figure -- they were too over done in wrestling. I didn't want to be a character other than an announcer so I wanted to find a way to have someone else do interviews and give updates and she could do that while parenting. Brazzle would be leaving when she retired. She was the head booker for McFly and the CWWF -- so she would be focusing on that duty. I can't blame her. I tried to convince her to be an agent for us, but she told me she really didn't have an interest. She didn't want to travel that much when she hang up the boots -- so I was preparing for their inevitable departure. I'd already put a couple of calls into Farrah about two women I'd like to have replace them. If Farrah was okay with it, I'd bring them in.

Six months into the year, I was starting to evaluate the roster. I wouldn't let anyone go yet, it was too early into our building process, but I had to be aware. The Masked Mauler and Jason Patterson were yet to really impress and could be surplus to requirements. I needed a long term singles heel to feud Conner through the summer and fall -- and I needed another veteran heel to work with the young guys. I was light on veterans in the heel department -- though I had added the Canadian Blonds.

I'd give it another few months before I started letting anyone go or trimming the roster back down. I had to see who was getting over still and we'd only run five shows, but I was a guy who looked at the data, so I tried to be aware. Time would tell.

I looked down at the card for June. It was a solid card. Conner had the month off -- he had a big job come through for the month of June and couldn't afford to not work weekends this whole month and I couldn't blame him. He worked in construction and his company got a big bid they'd put in so this month he'd be off. I was going to bring someone in special to set up for him in July, something I thought would appeal to the 'smart' fans in Indianapolis. I also had finally gotten the okay to bring in the World Women's Tag Team titles. Lilly and Rose were a hot, hot act for us and they deserved the main event. Brazzle and Blake would go at it one last time. The Hot Taggs were coming in for a look. I didn't know much about them and I wanted to see if they have any potential. If they were worth keeping on the shortlist of teams to bring in when we had openings. It would be a good show. Hopefully, it would continue our positive growth. If everything went according to plan, we would have a great summer. A summer that would get us talked about -- but how often did things really go to plan?
