A New York State of Mind: The Story of Jack Bruce

Jack Bruce

It's been less than two years since I lost the SWF World Heavyweight Championship for the last time. Fifteen years of service, almost to the day, for the Supreme Wrestling Federation. I was there when the they were at the top of the wrestling world. Hell, I was the reason for it all some would say. But to take credit for the success is to take credit for the failure as well. United States Pro Wrestling soared by SWF and who was still at the top? Jack Bruce. A bum knee, dull story arcs and a lack of rising stars ensured that the company would sit at #2 for the future. I continued to have myself a good career nonetheless, working into my mid-40s before putting over my successor, Rocky Golden, in a title vs. career match in July 2019 at The Supreme Challenge 39.

That's all in the past now though. It was back home to New York for me.

Of course, after spending my entire life dedicated to professional wrestling, that love, that itch, that desire never dissipates. I knew the next stage in my life would include wrestling in some way, but I never expected what was next.

So this is my first attempt at a diary/dynasty/whatever on the board here. I am a ThunderVerse guy through and through, and outside of short games here or there, I have never really played a C-Verse game. The original plan was to start a diary when the T-Verse is released, but I don't know when that'll be and I keep getting the urge to try this whole writing thing out. So, my compromise was to essentially have a "test run" where I learn how to write one of these bad boys and learn the C-Verse at the same time! I'm already decently deep into it now, and I am having a blast.

I am still undecided on a lot of the details of this, so if the format switches up, then just bare with me! I don't know much about BBCode or literally anything else related to these things, but as my life motto goes: f*** it. I can't wait to waste all of my free time on this. I start graduate school in the fall so I gotta get all of my creativity out of me now.

*special thanks to Historian for taking some time to answer my questions about providing me with some great tips, to CGN91 for more great help AND the code I eventually began to use, to Kamchatka for the logo and banner, to Fkepod & Christian_Shane for the title pictures, and to everyone whose worker renders I used!

October 2019

New York State Thruway

g20vypR.jpgqCl5qeq.jpg

Jack Bruce and Larry Vessey were on a tense phone call.

"Sorry Jack I just can't do it. I've been doing it for ten years, and Stomper for twenty-two before me. It works man."

"I know it works, but just imagine how much bigger the company would be if you just embraced change a bit."

"Jack, I'm not selling. I'm happy here. I see these young guys come in and I can see their future. I saw it in you too, when we were in TCW together twenty years ago."

"Man, if we only knew back then where life would take us."

"It took us right where we belonged. You're a superstar Jack. I see a lot of you in these boys here. You've been to the shows lately, I know you see it too."

"Yeah, I do. I see it. I don't blame you for wanting to help them."

"It's not like it was when I took over. Flash is done, the older guys are gone. It's a new crop."

I began to lose focus. I was disappointed. I gave Larry Vessey a great offer to buy NYCW. It was more money than the company will make in the next five years easy. But Larry already made his money, now he worked for pride.

"Jack man, I think you should do what we talked about last month. I won't be upset, you'd barely even be in the same territory. It's not like you're in Brooklyn, it's Utica. That's a five hour drive from here."

"Four, actually."

"That's exactly what I'm saying Jack. I'm patient and enjoy the ride. I can't say the same for you. Let me stay here and take things slow, and you go up there and do all those new things you're talking about."

Well, I didn't exactly want to have some explosive style like Coastal Zone out in California. I just didn't want to watch wrestling from my father's childhood. It seemed like Larry was giving me his approval to open up shop in New York. I respected Larry enough that I would never do it without his blessing.

"I think you're right, Larry. Maybe I should do that. There's a lot of guys that are looking for work. Upstate is a pretty big area. I could scout Syracuse a bit too. Maybe hit the Albany loop..."

"Jack, this is what's best for you. I'll put in the good word to Sam for you. They're always looking for new members. Him and I used to talk about you way back. When you jumped to the SWF, I put in the good word for you then too. I told him you weren't into the political mumbo jumbo. And hey, I was right. I'm sure he'll listen to me now too."

"I appreciate that. I'm getting off the thru-way now, I'll call you soon Larry. Thank you for everything."

"I'll let you know what Sam says. Have a good night son."

After a long and exhausting week of phone calls to bring some guys in, I made one last call to a colleague. I never worked with Jimmy Cox, but we spoke a few times a year about puroresu. I was always a big fan of wrestling in Japan. I knew that it was a great learning experience for young talent looking to improve. Now that Golden Canvas Grappling had gone under, Jimmy was looking to retire soon. He was 47 years old and was looking at opening a school somewhere near Boston where he lives now. But he wasn't ready to call it quits just yet. I last spoke to him in July after The Supreme Challenge, the retirement match. Jimmy called me to say congratulations on such a great career. That meant a lot to me, so when I needed a veteran to help keep the boys in line, Jimmy was the first man I thought of.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I also received a formal invitation to the Confederation of Wrestling Territories, thanks to Larry putting in a good word with Sam Keith. That makes two companies in New York now. There are two from California too, actually both in LA, so its nothing out of the ordinary. Larry mentioned that Sam was trying to expand a bit anyway, hoping to snag All Canada Pro up in Montreal and Puerto Rican Power's FREEDOM down in PR. Neither have accepted yet. ACPW doesn't care for our traditions and FCW is happy on its own. They might though, who knows. Stranger things have happened, like Jack Bruce opening a wrestling company.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">The belt finally came in on the 2nd. It looks phenomenal actually. It doesn't bare the company logo on it since I was flip-flopping between a half-dozen names at the time. Whatever, I could always add a plate to it later. I spent top dollar on it from a small-time guy down in the city. It may have been a bit premature actually, since I still didn't have any contracts signed for talent yet. Luckily it was a couple days afterwards that we got our first: Ernest Youngman. Soon after, the rest of them agreed to terms.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The goal is to run a show by the end of the month. My name recognition will hopefully help draw a decent sized crowd. Maybe two hundred? That's the benchmark I suppose.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I'm also setting up a roster reveal in the coming days. I signed some good young talent from the Northeast all hungry for some work.</div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Oh yeah, I finalized the trademarks for the company, too. </div></div><p> </p><p>

Why Summit Pro Wrestling?

Well, there were a ton of names that I was considering: Empire State Wrestling, Utica Pro Wrestling, Impact New York, and many more. I decided to use one that didn’t specifically say where the company is based, mainly because Larry Vessey was running New York City Wrestling and I didn’t want to cause confusion with people thinking NYCW was rebranding or anything. At the same time, Summit Pro Wrestling still pays homage to its location, as Utica, NY is at the base of the Adirondack Mountains. Perfect. I thought it was clever.

After the name reveal, I prepared the roster reveal. I sent out a press release to all the big wrestling sites and the local news of Central New York. Here it is:

9iCgLdc.jpgD2FR9FM.jpgGVOjsR5.jpgsjdjKm2.jpg

Ben Williams - Chuck Casey - Cip Conduit - Dead Man Walken

8OnMYUi.jpgm7oahXM.jpgXgLidNy.jpgmoNHVEf.jpg

Dominic DeGraff - Ernest Youngman - James Diaz - Jimmy Cox

aPUyqUs.jpgEPT5l2x.jpgvZmrBiG.jpgmmYBcVR.jpg

Justice Jolson - Keith Vegas - Logan Diaz - Rhino Umaga

hBenlOr.jpgifvPbml.jpgRXsfVIt.jpgOnYe3c4.jpg

Samoan Machine - The Masked Mauler VII - Tully Casey, Zippy Deverell

57oVGnh.jpg

mmYBcVR.jpghBenlOr.jpg

Samoan Destruction Inc.

Rhino Umaga - Samoan Machine

D2FR9FM.jpgRXsfVIt.jpg

The Casey Brothers

Chuck Casey - Tully Casey

XgLidNy.jpgvZmrBiG.jpg

The Diaz Family

James Diaz - Logan Diaz

Most of the roster hailed from the Tri-State area. Ten to be precise. Two from New England, two from the Mid Atlantic, one from Atlanta in the South East, and one Canadian from Montreal. Jack hired as much local talent as possible to keep travel costs down. The ref is Jez MacArthur of Allentown, PA as well. Keeping it all close so the boys can spend a weekend here and go home to their families.

With the roster finalized, it was time to book the show. This was my first time ever booking a show. Sure I helped out Jerry Eisen a bunch, but I was never the booker. I gave him input on certain guys and my own storylines. This was a whole new beast. Sam Keith and the COTT wanted to help him out for the first show, giving us their tag team champions for a night. Honestly, the card didn't look half bad if I do say so myself!

SPW New York State of Mind 2020

Before the show...

g20vypR.jpg

Well, the week leading up to the first show was rough. Sam Keith gave me a call and told me that OLLIE had booked the COTT tag belts for their show on Saturday, meaning I was SOL. I asked Sam how this was possible because we put in our claim, and he said something about it being lost in translation. They thought my show was on Sunday. Obviously this pissed me right off, seeing that this was my first show and I trusted the alliance. I would’ve left right there on the spot, but Sam offered me a make-good: the COTT World Championship and Pablo Rodriguez.

It’s not perfect since I advertised a tag title match, but I don’t think those in attendance would mind seeing the World Champion here tonight. I told Sam fine, but it won’t be the main event; that spot was for my guys tonight. He was about to argue back before he realized the pickle the alliance and OLLIE had put me in. We were even now.

The next step was figuring out who to challenge Pablo. I couldn’t change around any more matches. That led me to choosing between the guys who were supposed to fight for the tag belts. I talked to Jimmy Cox about which one to choose, since he had worked with them for over a decade in Golden Canvas Grappling. From the little I saw of them, I thought Samoan Machine was the better worker. Jimmy agreed with me, although I think he was biased since him and Bali joined GCG together in August of 2004. Welp, at least a new match was made. I also told Rav he would be facing Ben Williams tonight. Rav was already making the trip here, I might as well use him.

The show’s tonight, I should head down to the arena. It’s the first time a lot of these guys are meeting, so let’s hope everything goes smoothly now…

PREDICTIONS:

Since the COTT Tag Team Title match fell through, I'm just going to remove that from the predictions altogether.

Historian: 3/4

Siah463: 3/4

Munit: 2/4

Herrbear: 2/4

Wow you all hate Dead Man Walken :p nobody voted for him!

It was a bit of a predictable card, which is hard to avoid for a first show. I planned on having the winner get to choose a worker profile or something like that, but I might have to push that back until the next show I suppose with 3 out of the 5 predictors tying for first place.

Please leave any feedback you'd like: positive, negative, constructive, destructive, tell me I'm the best, tell me to never write again, etc. etc. etc.

Post-Show Thoughts

g20vypR.jpg

You know, for it being the first show I ever promoted, I am happy. Not everything had gone perfect, and a few of the guys had a rough night, but overall, the show was a success. I told myself earlier I wanted to get 200 people into the building, and by god that’s what I did. Not counting our kid doing the announcing and ringing the bell, we had exactly 200. I’ll reevaluate the talent in a week or so when I watch my wife’s tape of show. She used to record house shows for me in the SWF to help me pinpoint my mistakes. She’s a good asset to have around and I’m so thankful that she’s still willing to tape all these years later.

I had my first ego battle with a talent while going over the show with them. Philippe LaGrenier was pissed off that he had to drive from Montreal to Utica just to lose to this big kid no one has ever heard off.

“Are you serious Jack? Do you know how long it took me to get here?”

“Yes I’ve made that trip a few…”

“Four hours! I drove four hours to come here and lose to Ryan Walken? Did you even know that was his name? I didn’t until I googled it when you told me he was my opponent!”

I was getting frustrated at this point. Philippe was a 32 year old part-time wrestler who hadn’t worked for a decent company since CGC in 2011. Who is he to talk about other people’s populariy. I gave him an ultimatum.

“You are here to do your job. I tell you what your job is. I run the show. I will not have egos and political bulls*** in my locker room. I gave you this chance because no one else would. What happens if you walk away from here? You’re done. The next guy you try to swindle into hiring you, I’ll give him a call and we’ll have a nice chat.”

Philippe was still pissed, but he knew better than to say anything to me about it. He walked away mumbling but I didn’t care. I had already wasted too much time on the opening match and I had other things to worry about.

Other than that, everything was positive.

I knew going in to the COTT World Championship match that it was going to be killer, but they still blew me away. Pablo Rodriguez and Rhino Umaga tore the house down. I’ll definitely be bringing Pablo back soon. My vote for the title isn’t worth much yet, but I’ll be voting to keep it on him for awhile anyway. Their match was so good it had me worried about how the crowd would react to the main event. I thought they would be dead. I was pleasantly surprised when the four guys put in some good work, too. It wasn’t as good as the previous match, but they held their own.

If I took one thing away from tonight, it’s that Ernest Youngman is a superstar. He put on a great performance in the ring and cut a hell of a promo on Jimmy to end the show. At this point, I’m torn on who I’ll put the title on. Both of them have great cases for it. I’ll take the next few weeks to think about it. I’d rather not tell anyone until the night before the show anyway. It lets them sleep off any frustrations about it, while not giving them too much time to overthink.

Speaking of titles, next month is the beginning of the SPW Tag Team tournament. If there was one thing I’d change about my career, it would be to have a real run in a tag team. I’m a fan of tag team wrestling, and I want to bring a strong tag division to SPW. We already have a few solid teams here now. I’ll try to bring in a couple outside teams to help fill out the bracket. Larry has a few good ones in the city; I’m sure he’d help out.

After the final match, I stayed and helped the guys take everything down. There were a few older gentlemen that followed the Samoans and Jimmy in GCG so they all had a good time talking about that. It really is a shame they went under. That damn tsunami ruined the economy over there. I signed autographs for a couple teens, too. It felt nice to give back a bit, even if it was just an autograph. I wish the kids would’ve went up to some of the new guys though. This company isn’t about me. I didn’t appear in front of the crowd tonight, and I have no plans to do so in the future. My days soaking up the spotlight are over.

It’s midnight now, so I’m going to be heading to bed soon. I gotta say, it’s nice leaving a wrestling event and not being sore afterwards. I think I enjoy this whole owning and booking a promotion thing. According to my wife, we even made a bit of profit. I wasn’t sure if we’d break even, so hearing that was nice. I’ll have to double check with my accountant first though, my wife is better at spending money than counting it.

Enough talk, I need some sleep.

SPW Salt City Slam 2020

Before the show...

g20vypR.jpg

Tonight, we crown our first champion.

I came to the arena today in a much happier mood than last month. No curveballs were thrown my way before the show this time. Well, unless you count Chick-Fil-A’s milkshake machine being down. I had about an hour drive to the arena in Syracuse, which compared to twenty years ago is nothing. Syracuse is a nice city; I haven’t been here in a long time. I used to go to the college football games back at the Syracuse Dome when I was young. Once upon a time there was even a small wrestling scene here. Nobody of note, but not everyone can be a star.

I pulled into the arena at about noon to sit down and go over the matches and make sure everything could be timed out properly. I told the boys to get here at 5 o’clock for a 7pm start time. The Diaz boys got here at 4pm, not sure if they misheard me or were trying to impress me. Either way, ya love to see it. They had the ring almost done by the time the others arrived. I was sitting in one of the ringside seats while Dominic DeGraff and Cip Conduit were doing some rope-running. Those are two strong young men who I can definitely see going places bigger than this VFW in Syracuse.

They finished their stuff around 5:30 and so I sat there alone for a while, still writing stuff on my notepad. I had some booking ideas for the next seven or eight months planned out. It might’ve been a waste of time. A company of this size and this age, nothing goes according to plan. About ten minutes after they left the ring, I heard a rumbling and an occasional yell from the locker room. Jesus I thought, please tell me no one’s fighting already. I got up and started walking to the back when it became clear what was going on.

“WHEN YOU CALL MY NAME”

“ITS LIKE A LITTLE PRAYER”

“DOWN ON MY KNEES”

“I WANNA TAKE YOU THERE”

“IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR”

“I CAN FEEL YOUR POWER”

“JUST LIKE A PRAYER”

“YOU KNOW I’LL TAKE YOU THERE”

You’ve got to be kidding me.

Well, better than fighting each other. Can you imagine doing karaoke to freakin’ Madonna back in my day? I didn’t care, the boys were having a blast. Ralph Liotta was the ringleader and apparently stole the show with Johnny Needham. The boys from Mid Atlantic Wrestling were pretty damn lively.

I stood outside the doorway so they couldn’t see me and just listened. It wasn’t often I saw the true personalities of these guys. They usually are quiet when I’m around, which I understand. What made me laugh was when Ricky Quarter, LA Star #2 from NYCW, messed with James Diaz. Ricky told him to perform Bohemian Rhapsody for everyone, but all of a sudden the speakers blasted:

“SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME THE WORRRLD WAS GONNA ROLL ME, I AIN’T THE SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHEEEeeed”

I think I made the right choice bringing these two teams in for the tournament. My guys really took a liking to them.

Eventually things quieted down and everyone put their game face on. It was showtime.

Ralph Liotta led everyone in karaoke

LA Star #2 pulled a rib on the locker room

“Is anyone here surprised? I said last month this was
exactly
what was going to happen tonight. I am the future of professional wrestling. I am smooth in the ring, smooth on this mic, smooth with the ladies, and smooth down there where it matters baby. Jimmy Cox, you old man. This ain’t the 90s. Your time is up. You had your chance. We won last month because of me, and tonight I proved it. I am alone on top of this mountain. Summit Pro Wrestling, this is your warning.

I am “The Assassin” Ernest Youngman. Name me a price, and I’ll get the job done.”

Post-Show Thoughts

g20vypR.jpg

The show was great. Almost everyone had a great performance. It’s kind of a one-man production crew here, so most of the time I am giving people their queue or timing out the match and giving hand signals to our referee Jez across the building. But when I can, I watch the matches. I have some serious talent here. The Samoans are naturals, but they’ve been doing it across the globe for twenty years so I expect it. The one who shocked me the most was Logan Diaz. He worked his tail off tonight. He’s a 24 year old, been in the business for four years who wrestles like he’s been here for fourteen. He works for Mitch Naess down in Pittsburgh too. That’s the only other promotion he’s ever worked for. I guess being Raymond Diaz’s nephew means he’s got some serious pedigree. I think he’ll be gone before too long, just like Ernest Youngman.

Ernie is a superstar. How he fell on my lap, I’ll never know. He is the future. He’s 29 years old now, I give it to 34 before he is a World Champion, in any of the Big Three in the United States. He’s so good on the mic. That’s hard to come by nowadays. Most of the young guys work that indy style, where it’s just a spotfest with no psychology, no character work, nothing. Ernie on the other hand, he’s slick. The promos come naturally too. His whole time in the ring tonight he was a star. He got a great match out of Jimmy Cox.

Jimmy is good, but he’s old now. 47 years old, 29 years of experience, with 15 of them being in Golden Canvas getting the snot kicked out of him. Being a gaijin over there in Japan, he always had to work harder than the rest to earn his spot. It took four years before he was given a run with the world title. He earned it though. Just like he earned his spot in the main event. He still knows how to work a match, but it’s obvious he’s hurting bad. He can’t bump very well. When the match was over, he came through the curtain and sat down in the chair next to me, let out a big moan, got up and went to the locker room. He couldn’t even talk to me he was so blown up. I respect him even more now, blowing himself up for my company.

Youngman cut a great promo to end the show. All I told him to do was let everyone know he’s the heel, he’s the future, he’s the best, yada yada yada cheap heat. He hit it out of the park. And that line to end the show, it was money. I kept hearing it over and over. “I’m “The Assassin” Ernest Youngman. Name me a price, and I’ll get the job done.”

“Ernest, did you come up with that on the spot?”

“Yes sir I did. It just came out I guess. Was it good or somethin’?”

“Was it good? Yes it was great! You’re ‘The Assassin!’ It fits perfectly with your gimmick! Name you a price for the hit, you’ll get take care of it! You need to end every promo with that. You know I don’t script you guys, but this I am. You’re an awesome promo, but you needed a catchphrase. Now you got it. Good job kid.”

“Thank you sir. Thank you for trusting me with the title, too. I’ll make sure I work my ass off every show.”

“I know you will. Now go home, I know about your show yesterday in Buffalo for PSW. I’m sure you’re tired of driving around the state. Get some rest tonight at the hotel, don’t head straight home.”

“I will sir. Thanks again, take care.”

Before I left for the night, I wanted to talk to Logan Diaz too. I’m lucky to have him here. I owe it to Larry Vessey for getting him here. He got me in touch with his uncle Raymond since they worked together in PGHW. Logan, James, DeGraff, and some of the other younger ones were taking apart the ring when I came out of the locker room from talking to Ernie.

“Hey Logan, I need to talk to you quick.”

“Yes sir what’s up?”

“How you feeling? Sore?

“Yeah a bit. Dominic’s lariats are a bit stiff. I can handle it though.”

“Listen. I saw your performance tonight. You were great. Your brother was too, but he’s green as grass. For being 18 years old though, he’s a helluva lot better than most. But you Logan, I see it in you. You’re a dynamo. What does Mitch have you doing down in Pittsburgh?”

“I was National champion until December. It was my third reign. They like me down there.”

“They should. Look at you. Look, I gave Ernie the belt tonight because I want him to be the face right now. He’s marketable and already known in the northeast. But he’s a heel. I need someone that the fans can get behind. I want to turn that potential into something real. Not now, not next month, but soon. If I do this, can I trust you to play that role?”

“Mr, Bruce, you want me to be the top babyface? Of course, I’d love to. Everyone says I’m better as a heel, but I want to show I can do both. Ernie’s a great heel anyway. I’ll do in a heartbeat. I think we could tear the house down across the whole northeast.”

“Good. Because that’s what I’m going to do soon. Give it time Logan. Don’t get impatient. You’re going to have a good career down here. Work with your cousin for now, and you’ll know when the time is right for your solo run.”

I think he got the message. I usually don’t tell my talent the plans I have for them. But I’m afraid that Logan will leave. I know they’re watching him, that’s what Raymond told me. But while I have him, I’m gonna use him. I’m not exactly sure when yet, but I better do it soon.

Time to plan for next month. We’re in Buffalo. Sam Keith is going to be there too. He’s bringing Miller Fforde with him to work the show for me. Sam gave him the victory in the Rip Chord Invitational this year. He’s worked for Sam for a long time, and Sam thinks he’s going to be moving on from them soon, so he’s trying to get him as much training in as possible. It’s a long drive up here, a long time poor Miller is stuck hearing road stories from Sam. But screw it, Sam’s as good a teacher as anyone in the world. Miller will be a good first challenger for Ernie.

The drive on the thruway was relaxing. I thought a lot about the plans I have for the company. I’m living the dream now. Gone are the 50,000 seat arenas across the country. I’m booking shows for less than 200 people in a VFW.

And I couldn’t be happier.

Right next to Niagara Falls, good beer, even better wings. It’s a man’s dream. Except for their football team, but that’s another story. After last show, Jimmy Cox decided he wanted to do something nice for the boys, so he organized a pool tournament at one of those bars in Buffalo that claim to be the first place to ever sell buffalo wings. There’s like six of them so I don’t remember which one Jimmy decided to go to. The Friday night before the show, everyone went out there and explored the city. By all accounts they had a good time. I’m too old for stuff like that, and I had some catching up to do with the rest of the COTT shows, so I stayed at the hotel and relaxed. I like those nights. Hours of uninterrupted wrestling. That was until I heard some loud noise outside my door at midnight. It was Philippe LeGrenier, Keith Vegas and Ben Williams. Apparently LeGrenier forgot to pay his tab before he left so the two other guys were going to cover it before Jimmy Cox overheard them and decided to teach LeGrenier a lesson. Jimmy picked up the bill, but told Vegas and Williams to tell LeGrenier that next time they all go out, he’s picking up the tab for the three of them, plus Jimmy who can be a bit of a drinker. LeGrenier just found that out while passing my hotel room and was clearly a bit angry. Once I opened that door though, they shut right up. I told them I had a laissez-faire policy with the boys and their intermingling, as long as they don’t do anything stupid. After that all was over, I went back to bed and turned on the PSW show.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling and New York City Wrestling were both putting on good shows. Hawkeye Calhoun defeated Brutus Milano for the NYCW Empire Championship at Beasts of War last weekend. A weird move for sure. Brutus must be hurt, or maybe he pissed off Larry. Hawkeye’s got a baseball gimmick for crying out loud. He’s a tag team guy with that other baseball mask-wearing dude. </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Over in Pittsburgh, Steel City StarFest XII was a great show. I’m glad I watched. 1,300 people crammed into the PSW arena to watch it live, with 55,000 watching on WrestleWorld, which I will talk about. I traded Logan Diaz to them in exchange for Andrew Harper for the weekend. Logan ended up beating PSW legend Madman Boone in a First Blood match in the co-main! Not sure if he was even supposed to go over to be honest, since Boone’s forehead bleeds by smiling these days. </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> The bigger deal was Ernest Youngman though. He lost the main event for the PSW Championship to Nelson Callum. And it was a Tables match. Which means the SPW Champion went through a table the night before Brawl in Buffalo. Great. But I get it, PSW is his main promotion. I have no say in his booking there. I am worried about his health though, so I hope he’s 100% tonight. He’s a champ, I’m sure he can take a table bump and walk it off in 24 hours.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Although I love to see other companies in the Tri-State doing well, I was a bit worried that it could lead to fans going to their shows and not mine. My anxieties were exacerbated when WrestleWorld launched.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> The internet PPV broadcaster seems to be a huge hit with the other smaller companies in the USA. Even some COTT members are getting in on it. It’s been available for three weeks and it’s already everywhere. I can’t keep track of who’s in and who’s not. I myself even looked into a bit, but I heard about their expectations for production, and I have a feeling it would make SPW look bad next to Costal Zone and some of the others I know that are in. </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> I’ll give it awhile to see if WrestleWorld makes it past this honeymoon phase. If it does, I’ll shell out the cash for better cameras and lighting and put Summit Pro on there. Not for any one reason, just a bunch of small ones. The show wasn’t great. Not bad, but nothing special. I thought before the show that Ernest Youngman was still banged up from his PSW Championship match the night before with Nelson Callum. It turns out that unfortunately I may have been right. </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> A couple of the boys came up to me and said that Ernie seemed a bit quieter than usual in the locker room before the show. I kind of brushed it off as not a big deal, but when he went out to the ring he was definitely off his game. He was less charismatic and played to the fans less, he took a slow approach the match, and he maintained a slow pace. Not to say that it was bad, because he still had the best match, but I expect more from Ernie now. I spoke to him after the show.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “Ernie, I can tell you’re off your game, just tell me what’s up”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “I’m sorry sir, I’m just sore.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “From Pittsburgh?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “Yes. You should get yourself checked out. Talk to Mitch about it when you get back to Pittsburgh. You’ve been beating yourself up with your schedule. Between the indies, for Summit, and for Pittsburgh Steel, you’re going to wear yourself out. Especially with Pittsburgh. I watched that show, does every match need weapons? I had to think about some of the other things that went on tonight. The tag matches were good so I anticipate next month’s final being a barnburner. Jimmy’s age is undeniable now. I gave him 15 minutes with Andrew Harper and he could barely move by the end. I didn’t even see him after the show. He must have bounced right after the finish of the main event. Seeing him work like this means I need to change some of my plans. He was a key part of my booking for the rest of the year, but if I can’t get a good match out of him, maybe I’ll have to demote him a bit. I doubt he’d be too upset about it. But now I need to find his replacement. </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Who said this booking stuff was easy?</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p> </p><p> </p><p> Prediction Key:</p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="49317" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="tqUmIEM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tqUmIEM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> <strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Summit Pro Wrestling Presents: Capital Carnage</span></strong></p><p> Albany, NY</p><p> Monday Week 4, April 2020</p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Inaugural SPW Tag Team Championship Tournament Finals</span></strong></p><p> The Diaz Family (James & Logan Diaz) vs. Samoan Destruction Inc.
