[HYPE] Alternate Real World Universe

Recommended Posts

So, I have been interested in making a new Alternate Universe mod. No work has been done yet, this is more a hype. I have a base premise for the game below, feel free to let me know if you would play it.

The game itself would begin in 2020, however the universe 'starts' in the late 1990s after a certain event causes ripples across the wrestling world.

The Event

November 9th 1997 at Survivor Series would see Bret Hart defend his WWF World Heavyweight Championship against Shawn Micheals, but Bret had already decided he wants out, and would be leaving after the match. Worried Bret might try something stupid with the belt like Alundra Blayze two years prior, Vince ordered a number of WWF employees including Senior Official, Earl Hebner and Shawn Micheals himself into a meeting.

In order to minimise any chance Bret might have of screwing the finish, and doing anything with the belt, McMahon ordered Hebner and Micheals to screw Bret over by telling him he was to win and be given a 'warrior's exit'. Micheals hatred of Hart compelled him to do this, but Hebner was more stubborn. Vince even went as far as bribing Hebner...

In the end, Hebner was a family man - and Bret was also a family man with four children. Was Hebner going to let Vince kill the legacy of a good man, to prevent his biggest threat in WCW getting more leverage? Hebner called Owen Hart that night and told him everything. In turn, Owen would tell Bret.

The day of Survivor Series, Bret showed up and asked for a pre-match promo to address the rumours going around that he was leaving WWF. Originally, Vince said no, but both Hebner and Owen - secretly working with Hebner on the inside, pressured Vince into giving him a mic...

That 5 minutes was all he needed. Bret dropped the bomb on how Vince was planning on screwing him over to stop his 'biggest' star defecting (which was not even remotely what was going to happen, Hart wanted another kid and was willing to settle down with his wife.)

Hart left the arena without wrestling that night, and both Hebner and Owen were subsequently fired for releasing company secrets. The following lawsuits from both Harts and Hebner was enough to drain WWF of a lot of cash, the critical feedback cost them the fans, and a bunch of talent who detested this deplorable act also left the company.

From this night, a huge momentum shift bounced to WCW...but would it stay this way...?

State of Game World Today

Without spoiling much of the universe, I have decided WWF/E are still on top. But also, WCW is still a thing with a new 'mystery' buyer. TNA never hit the floor running, and NJPW is a close third.

Once I have planned the game world, I will start the database and working on the companies and acts. There will be a bunch of familiar faces in different companies to reflect these changes.

Lemme know what you think so far - I will try to update you once a week or so!

Please note, despite this being an original universe, I do not own any of the property. Furthermore, all my ideas are my own and anybody can use them - any simmilarities to other mods are purely coincidental and if you would like me to change them, please let me know.

<p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">THE IMMEDIATE FALLOUT</span></em></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Without Owen, Bret, or Hebner, it was clear the WWF could survive for a while but the act was detested by fans and workers. Over the coming months, talent chose not to renew contracts and would leave the company. One of the biggest workers to do so was Triple H and Chyna, who were offered strong contracts with WCW at the time.</p><p> </p><p>

Debuting in December '97 at Starrcade, HHH and Chyna would immediately join NwO, beating down Sting after his victory over Hogan. This was cemented with the 'Handshake Heard Across The World' as Hollywood Hogan shook hands with Triple H. WCW was cemented as the kingpins of wrestling once more, and after 3 months of poor PPVs, Vince finally addressed the public for the first time since the screwjob at Wrestlemania 14.</p><p> </p><p>

"My decision at Survivor Series last year was a very poor one, and in retrospective vision I was wrong. But I know my words don't mean a dime for your attention...so effective immediately I, Vincent Kennedy McMahon will be stepping down as owner of the WWF, and my wife, Linda McMahon will be in charge going forward."</p><p> </p><p>

Whilst his apology and step down helped in the short run, Linda's vision of the company and low ticket sales were dwindling WWE's stock. By the end of 98, the main event scene was super thin, and ticket sales were very low. In October, with husband Vince by her side, Linda went to speak to a new investor - one who could save WWE...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Effects This Has On The Universe:</span></em></strong> </p><p> </p><p>

- Triple H and Chyna still wrestle at a semi-regular appearance (but for what company...?)</p><p>

- Chyna is still alive, and get's paid for rehab by WCW in 2000 and a relapse in 2008. She also becomes the first woman to become WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 2001 after turning on Triple H.</p><p>

- Chyna and Triple H are an item in 2003, but split up due to Chyna not wanting to settle down. They remain best friends to this day.</p><p>

- Vince McMahon is still in the business as a booker, redeeming himself in the years to come. His wife, Linda McMahon remains owner and CEO of WWF/E, but she now answers to a new investor who oversees the entire product. Who or what are they...?</p><p>

- In 97, 98, and 99, the main event mainly consisted of Undertaker, Shawn Micheals, Stone Cold, and The Rock - all of whom are retired today. The Rock is still a Hollywood icon.</p>

THE NOT-SO IMMEDIATE FALLOUT

'98 would later be called by wrestling fans 'The Year That Was Not' due to the lack of many interesting storylines. NwO vs Sting was the only good thing about WCW, at one point all members of the NwO holding gold. Over in WWF, D-Generation X never took off. Without Rick Rude, Chyna, or Triple H, Shawn Micheals was forced to go solo again.

The main event scene was so weak, that Linda McMahon literally only had a handfull of wrestlers to choose from. And it got worse...much worse. The WWF was running out of cash and fast. They would need an investor.

Linda McMahon met with a few in the months to come, but in October, she would sign a deal that would boost WWF and allow them to start thriving again. This boost came from the Disney Company, who wanted to get in on a new form of 'entertainment'. If Linda signed the deal, the WWF would be forced to change their product - but it would mean they could continue going.

Reluctantly, she pressed the pen to paper and a financial support package was sent her way. Over the next year or two, the attitude started to be drained out, and replaced with more family friendly content (but Disney would ease those restrictions for big matches). Intergender matches were gone, and workers kept only for sex appeal like The Cat were sent packing.

In late 99, Linda McMahon would poach four workers from WCW; Chris jericho, Chris Beniot, Eddie Gurrerro, and Dean Malenko. She would also sign indie starlets D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley, Rocco Rock, Johnny Grunge, and young Japanese sensation Maeko Satamura.

Effects This Has On The Universe:

- Disney now owns WWF/E, and the Attitude Era never really goes anywhere. They sprinkle a light amount of sexual innuendos and blood here and there, but nothing major.

- Sendai Girls is never established, as a young Meiko Satamura is signed to WWF/E and sent to developmental. Over the years, she becomes a figurehead of the women's division, winning the WWF/E Women's title 6 times, most recently ending the Undefeated Streak of Asuka (which still happens) and establishing herself as the best Women's wrestler from Japan.

- With the aquirement of The Dudley Boys and Public Enemy, something has to give...The Hardy Boyz. That's right. Linda never saw interest in them, and as such they join childhood friends 'Sugar' Shane Helms and Shannon Moore in WCW, joining the boyband 3 Count, before having a successful tag team career.

What Is Next?

I will be shifting focus from the WWF/E for a while to develop the rest of the world. I wanna flesh out WCW and then move my focus to Japan. I will also be establishing the first new company!

Not a world update, but more of a title scene picture in the WWE

World Championship

Aj Styles was poached from the WCW in 2003 and became a grand slam champion in 2010, capturing the World (2009), Tag Team (with Rey Mysterio, 2005) Intercontinental (2004, 2006), Cruiserweight (2004), and US title (2010). He is comfortable in his 2nd reign as champion from March 2019, and is currently in a feud with Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era, which is carrying the company.

Also involved in the tile picture is the return of Edge at the Royal Rumble in 2020. In this universe, everybody washes their hands! And this means the Corona does not happen, and Edge would face long time rival Jeff Hardy in a ladder match at Wrestlemania, and with a little help from Christian would secure a Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at Money In The Bank (which will be the start point).

Women's Championship

Rhea Ripley is a VERY hot talent right now. At the Royal Rumble, she became the first champion to win the rumble, and as such she got to pick her NXT Women's Championship opponent - current Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch. She would pin The Man, cleanly and Becky would soon announce her maternity leave. Rhea was soon attacked by the returning Gail Kim - who never quit the WWE twice, and only went once for an extended break from wrestling.

Gail is a 4 time champion, and nearing her retirement. She challenges Ripley to a Title vs Career match that is set to catapult the Aussie through the stratosphere.

Meanwhile, in Smackdown. Bayley and Sasha have imploded, with Sasha's new muscle a freshly heel Maeko Satamura breathing down Bayley's neck. Bayley turns into an anti-hero face and soon accepts reality she needs help...but who will help this Judas?

Current Champions:

WWE Heavyweight Champion - Aj Styles in his 2nd Reign

WWE Universal Champion - Brock Lesnar in his 3rd Reign

WWE Raw Womens Champion - Rhea Ripley in her 1st Reign

WWE Smackdown Womens Champion - Bayley in her 2nd Reign

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions - The Undisputed Era (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish) in their 1st Reign

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions - Roppongi Nights (Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu) in their 1st Reign

NXT World Champion - Velveteen Dream in his 1st Reign

NXT North American Champion - Walter in his 1st Reign

NXT Womens Champion - Rhea Ripley in her 1st Reign

NXT UK Champion - Tyler Bate in his 2nd Reign

NXT UK Womens Champion - Toni Storm in her 2nd Reign

NXT UK tag Team Champions - Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate and Trent Severn) in their first reign

NXT Tag Team Champions - Private Party (Issiah Kassidy and Mark Quen) in their 1st Reign

<p>Last update for today.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WHAT HAPPENED TO AEW?</span></em></strong></p><p> </p><p>

All Elite Wrestling never could really take off in this universe. Linda McMahon and Disney were very pro-development and Cody was treated properly and with respect throughout his tenure, becoming NXT Champion twice and even contending the WWE Heavyweight and Universal Championships. </p><p> </p><p>

Kenny Omega was seen as a HUGE selling point for NJPW, so much so that when Okada left the company in 2018 (that information is coming soon), Omega turned face on the Bullet Club and Omega vs White would blow all ticket sale records for NJPW history. </p><p> </p><p>

The Young Bucks and Roppongi 3K would leave the NJPW Tag Team Division after a few disagreements with their directions and multiple rejections when asked to break up. Roppongi would be rebranded as the Roppongi Nights in WWE and would sky rocket up the division, whilst the Young Bucks would team with Tony Khan to make All Elite Wrestling.</p><p> </p><p>

But AEW never had a chance, with the twin Goliath of WCW and WWE, AEW just could not gather traction. It's main draw in the early days, Chris Jericho was now a bonafide legend in WCW and WWE, and AEW hit the rocks hard. It is still up and running but who knows for how long? Some serious booking problems and roster issues threaten it's demise.</p>

<p><strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW'S RESURFACE AND FALL DOWN, AND RESURFACE AGAIN</span></em></strong></p><p> </p><p>

With Triple H and Chyna now firmly inside the NwO, WCW was starting to get hot - despite the fact it had no other storylines to add to it. And also losing hot talents like Malenko, Beniot, and Jericho would be a further kick to the gut.</p><p> </p><p>

Hollywood Hogan would feud with Sting until the start of 99 when The Owen Brothers mysteriously showed up to back up The Icon. Alongside Booker T, who was desperate to convince brother Stevie Ray to leave the NwO, and Cactus Jack who would never go to WWF due to it's family friendly nature, would fight the NwO team of Hogan, Nash, Hall, HHH, and Chyna in a WarGames match.</p><p> </p><p>

The match was noted to be the most hardcore WarGames of it's nature with both HHH and Foley really elevating the playing field. And by December, Hogan was toppled as champion by Goldberg of all people, who would subsequently deliver the 'kick of death' to Owen Hart - not Bret. The concussion caused forced Owen out the business, and Bret refused to work with Goldberg, turning down a title shot, only for Hogan to win it.</p><p> </p><p>

At this point, NwO imploded. The group was too large, and Hogan and Nash's egos were too big. The head booker at the time, Vince Russo would put all the popular guys on one NwO and all the unpopular guys on another NwO. This method of booking was frowned upon, and from 2000 all the way to 2003, WCW lost Sting, Hogan, Nash, Hall, and Luger to the WWF once again, with their cartoon characters it would be a sensible move.</p><p> </p><p>

With the loss of so much talent in a few years, Eric Bischoff got to the source of the problem and fired Vince Russo. Taking over booking duties once again, Eric would make HHH the final boss heel of the company, holding the WCW World Heavyweight Championship 8 times over his career, and fending off the likes of Scott Steiner, Mick Foley, Goldberg (who would retire in 2006), RVD, and Christopher Daniels.</p><p> </p><p>

But his most surprising - and profitable feud - was the face turn of Chyna. In 2001, Russo made the hasty choice to make Chyna a face world champion - with some major backlash from the fans, before having her turn heel again in a 'double agent' angle with HHH's rival at the time, Hulk Hogan who also turned face. Her title reign was less then 2 weeks, and is not noted anywhere in WCW history.</p><p> </p><p>

When Hogan left in 2003, and Russo's sacking weeks later, Bischoff would discretely start pushing Chyna. With victories over a retiring Alundra Blayze, and Stevie Ray amongst other big names, the fans were slowly falling for Chyna again, and eventually Chyna would turn face on HHH - for real this time.</p><p> </p><p>

The crowd would firmly get behind her as champion now, and she became a RECOGNISED champion with a clean pitfall victory over HHH. Her reign would last 4 months before WCW would halt productions due to an agreement made by Bischoff and Linda McMahon...</p><p> </p><p>

WCW and WWF would bury the hatchet and prepare a supershow - twice the size of Wrestlemania. And with the money from this show, Bischoff finally purchased WCW from Ted Turner.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Impacts On The Game Universe</span></em></strong></p><p> </p><p>

- The Supershow happens in 2003, where the WCW belt would be captured by lead WWF face Stone Cold Steve Austin in night one, before dropping the belt the Triple H in night two.</p><p>

- The NwO never splits for Wolfpac, but splits in 2000 into 2 different groups called NwO.</p><p>

- Hogan would not appear on TV for either company again.</p><p>

- Bret hart remained with WCW but would retire in 2002 after a title vs career match against Triple H</p><p>

- The Supershow usured a new friendship between Bischoff and new WWF owner Linda McMahon, and allowed all talent across both companies to wrestle with the other.</p>

JAPAN:

In the late 90s, stars like Keiji Mutoh, Shinya Hashimoto, and Masahiro Chouno would be billed as the next generation of New Japan Pro Wrestling. in 2000, Chouno would begin the Kage Corps (or Shadow Corps), which were like NJPW's answer to NwO - which inspired Antonio Inoki to create a mega heel stable that would rock the very foundation of puroresu.

The Kage Corps original lineup consisted of Chouno, Jushin Thunder Liger, a young Manabu Nakanishi, Yuji Nagata, and Inoki himself serving as the groups 'mouthpiece'. Inoki borrowed so much from WCW that the product changed, and allowed several other companies in Japan to shrivel in the heat of the pressure.

The Kage Corps lasted until 2009, in various different lineups - being rebranded by a freshly heel Prince Devitt as the Bullet Club, and remain to this dayone of the strongest booked entities in the world.

New Japan Women's Wrestling (NJWW) would open in 2010 by Megumi Kudo of FWA fame, and Inoki trusted full 100% control to her.

Inoki himself would retire from the business in 2013, selling his entire stock to Bushiroad.

EFFECTS THIS HAD ON THE GAME UNIVERSE:

- Shinya Hashimoto still died, would have loved to keep him but he was not needed for the narrative, and had very little to do with present day NJPW. But, his son Daichi is a former Junior Heavyweight champion.

- LIJ and Bullet Club are the two biggest factions. Chaos was never founded as Shinsuke Nakamura would be 'discovered' by Albert at the WCW power plant and is a major player over there.

- Okada is also not with NJPW after being booked pretty poorly recently. Although currently a free agent, both WCW and WWE have their eyes on him...

- NJWW is a sister company to NJPW owned by Megumi Kudo and booked by Mio Shirai, Io Shirai's older sister.

Next update: a brand new company...

Level-Up Wrestling:

Owner: Ember Palmer (FKA Ember Moon)

Booker: Nadeshot

Size: Medium

Ember Moon was released from the WWE at the start of 2019 due to budget cuts. And at first, Ember was devestated. But after a re-brand to Ember Palmer, and a brief sprint on the independents, Ember would focus on streaming and gaming events.

One of these events would see Ember meet a wrestler world renown; Kenny Omega. And it was this meeting that rekindled Ember's fire, and she decided to make Level-Up Wrestling - a nice spin on her gaming love and wrestling. She needed sponsors to go any further and so, she contacted another friend she met at the gaming event; Nadeshot.

Nadeshot was a former pro gamer, turned CEO and owner of 100 Thieves Esports Club. Nade and 100T were so pleased with Ember's mix of pro gaming events and wrestling, Nade bought a percentage of her company.

With this cash, Ember could promote both pro gaming and pro wrestling (sometimes on the same show) and even dragged legendary League of Legends player Tyler1 into a semi-regular wrestling/commentating role. By the time 2020 rolled around, Ember had a decent roster with a focus around not signing wrestlers to exclusive contracts.

This meant her first - and current - champion would be the champion of both gaming AND wrestling; Kenny Omega.

This is such a cool concept and I will be following this extremely close!

One small thing that I want to question so far: With HHH staying in WCW in this world...……. I doubt NXT would thrive like it did, It is his baby afterall

NXT is running 'fairly' smoothly under it's new director and booker. When NXT is concieved of in 2010, Linda immediately makes it a training ground instead of a reality show, and has Shawn Micheals take over booking duties. In recent years, Shawn has returned to a coaching status only, and instead Shane McMahon is booking.

But without HHH some of the biggest talent aquisitions never happened. PAC, Shinsuke, Kushida (who is now a heel in NJPW), and Matt Riddle never make it to NXT. Furthermore, without the reality shows in WWE, Patrick Clark never becomes the Velveteen Dream. He does, but it not like how we see him now...he is more a...real character.

One last update tonight.

BBC Acquire Progress Wrestling

In 2013, BBC acquire TV rights the cult-like Progress Wrestling. Aired on BBC Three online, and later on repeats on BBC One, Progress becomes one of the BBC's biggest shows, and guys like Will Ospreay, jimmy Havoc, Sha Samuels, and Walter (who is on a 'special' agreement with the WWE) become huge draws for British wrestling.

Sorry but this sounds very phony, if Triple H never marries Steph and isn't even involved you'd never have the entire NXT structure you just took over (and with some solid WCW going it wouldn't even work at all) and definitely not Rumble, MITB yada yada for Women.

Ok. You don't have to play it. Just like you did not have to write this half-assed criticism of an early plan of a mod.
