Some queens are born. Some queens are made. And some queens are...hired? Somehow? For some reason?

As a strong, independent, and semi-successful fashion designer, Debbie Ballard did not have a need to go into wrestling. So like sure, she wasn't an Alexander Wang, or a Virgil Abloh, or even like one of those ghost designers that Real housewives got when they were starting their QVC lines, but she was able to pay the bills, wasn't she? Well, sort of. In any case, it was really a passion project sort of thing, the whole bringing people to ringside and looking pretty while people hit each other over the head with steel chairs, but it was good.

...What wasn't so good was the whole "approached by a shady cougar and somehow becoming the booker of a wrestling company" sort of thing, but Debbie-nah, Destiny, was going to just make her mind matter over other matters. Like the matter that the company was feuding with literally the only other all-woman fed in the country. It'd be good. It'd be coool. It'd be destined.

Harmony Nolen - Diva of the DDT

Current AMAZON Queen of the Ring, Harmony Nolen's motto in life is "If you strut like you own a place, then you do." Of course, half the time she only answers to "Queen", and the other half of the time she screams at whoever's asking to leave her presence, but this can-do attitude has nevertheless rocketed her up the echelons of the roster, leaving her royalty in the concrete jungle. She's beat back plenty of pretenders, but can this songstress remain a hit?

Booker Notes: A real coup from AWF, Harmony's one of our biggest stars, and frankly, one of our nicest too. One of our closest workers to being a household name, in households that contain wrestling fans, and either men above 18 or girls under 16, she brings in a lot of our revenue. It's a shame that she doesn't know how to portray characters that aren't like total jerks, but she's still good either way.

Jamie Vamp - Rockin' the Boat

Headbangs and hairflips all come with the life for Jamie Vamp, proclaimed groupie to the stars. A swerving seductress, vixen of violence, babe of the brawl, she'll stop at nothing to get what she wants - men, money, or most importantly? The title belt.

Booker Notes: A veteran and consummate professional, Jamie's a long-time valet whose in-ring talents are being put to good use for the first time in a long whole in Amazon (hopefully!). One of our best talkers, she's incredibly underrated as an actual wrestler, and while a little bit older than Harmony at 34 compared to 31, she's set to be a key player for a while, and after, perhaps an authority figure of some kind. Either way, a cornerstone.

Layla Fyre - Dream Crusher

Not just a menace, but an absolute psycho. Layla Fyre seeks to not just defeat, but absolutely destroy her opponents. At 5'11 and who knows how many pounds of unbridled rage, you can count on her bringing the pain to all she meets.

Booker Notes: Another veteran, Layla's got experience working all over the world. While not as flashy as you might expect from someone of her stature, she's an incredibly solid performer who'll at the very least help to train up some of our other girls-particularly if I'm right and she's chomping at the bit to move to greener pastures.

All Hallows Eve - Mistress of Darkness

One half of Dark Desires, All Hallows Eve brings a touch of strange to the AMAZON ring. Quiet and unforthcoming, not much is known, and the few who try to intrude further find that as always, Darkness Falls.

Booker Notes: One of the hallmarks of our fledgling tag division, Eve is one of our poached talents from AWW. Along with Tara, she's an old hand in the ring, even if her personality means that situations involving her are always a little touch and go.

Scarlett Slater - Million Dollar Daddy's Girl

With a silver spoon in her mouth since birth, isn't it no surprise that Scarlett Slater now calls the squared circle home? Whether causing a stir with her backstage antics or her in-ring exploits, one thing is true: she believes she's a star, in all senses of the word, and she'll do whatever it takes to get there.

Booker Notes: Eek. Can I say that? 'Cause I manage this girl, and even I find her kinda crappy to be around. Still, she's friends with the boss, which counts for...something, I guess.

Tara Vice - Chaos Bringer

Some people thrive in anarchy. Tara Vice is one of them. Along with her partner All Hallows Eve, she seeks to put an end to the reign of the "beautiful people", no matter how many people need to be put through tables to get there.

Booker Notes: Another steady hand and AWW poach, Tara's worked in Canada as well as America. Not that that really seems to have added any more dimensions to her game, but she's a ready and dependable member of the midcard, able to hopefully make sure some of the other girls don't botch things too badly.

Vannah - V For Vanity

Partners in crime with Scarlett Slater, fellow Big League Vannah may not have the same financial resources as her partner, but is every bit her equal in self-conceit. Don't mistake her penchant for pampering, though, or you'll find yourself the victim of a nasty Safari Driver.

Booker Notes: Thankfully someone who's actual personality is the opposite of what she showcases on screen. Vannah's still young and got a lot of potential to be a fine worker, but tag feuds with her are gonna require a lot of angles before we get her up to snuff in the ring. She can talk the talk, certainly, but the walk? Still on crutches for now.

Isy Dobson - Bulwark of Bitterness

Isy's worked a lot. Isy's gotten beaten down a lot. But Hell will freeze over before she throws in the towel, especially not without coming to the ring to teach a few more youngsters what real wrestling is.

Booker Notes:Out of all our veterans, Isy's the one who's probably the youngest, funnily enough, only turning the big 3-0 a couple of months ago. She's probably the one with the least star quality out of them all, too, but that's not to detract from her solid work in matches. She's dependable, willing to take a loss, and has got a fine understanding of the game. I don't think I can really ask for more.

Mercy Divine - The M.I.T. (Monster In Training)

A brute in all senses of the word, don't expect any Mercy from this ironically-named titan. She might be young, but this she-hulk's punches bely a wisdom (or perhaps just strength) far beyond her years.

Booker Notes: Mercy is...raw, no doubt about it, but I've been trying to hash out a way for her to brute-force her way through the roster, at least to set up some more promising stuff for her competitiors in the same age-range on the other half. She's game, if nothing else, but game'll mean nothing if she breaks someone's face in.

Angelique - Thrill Seeker

She may be rough around the edges, but no one can deny that Angelique is a rebel with a heart of solid gold and her head screwed on straight. ...At least, when she's not flying off the ropes at top speed. For now, though, she continues captivating the crowd with her stunts, and being the bane of our censors.

Booker Notes: A big, big talent, we're incredibly lucky to have Angelique, even if we're only able to get her because her chequered past means that bigger promotions are more wary of hiving her a shot. Sucks, really, but she's a greater worker both in-ring and on the mic for us. Can't say with certainty how long she'll remain as a wrestler, but hopefully we'll be able transition her to some kinda managerial position should there be that need.

Serenity Barrera - The Rock Star Next Door

She may be the relative of modern rock royalty, a former cover model for Teen Vogue, and even a bassist in bands all across the West Coast, but Serenity Barrera has remained as approachable as ever, even if her frustrations about not yet being crowned Queen of the Ring have begun to upset her just a little bit more. Always a fierce competitor, the question must be asked: Just how much edge does she have?

Booker Notes: Our best babyface and the youngest of our initial main event roster, Serenity looks to have a very bright future as one of our foremost AMAZONs. Just like Harmony,though, she's not exactly amazing in the ring, but her charisma goes a long way towards making that less of a sticking factor.

Candace Horne - Kick Ass Chick

Coming from a few years in the octagon, Candace Horne has found herself in a whole new kind of arena. Pledging to take no bull and no nonsense from any of the other ladies, Candace aims to Superkick her opponents into submission, and do it with a smile.

Booker Notes: Perhaps one of the most clear-cut cases of popularity really doing a worker good, Candace is solid if unspectacular, but her prior exposure thanks to her MMA exploits make her an easy pick for people to latch on and cheer for. She's not exactly young at 31, but she could still surprise me.

Cherry Howard - The Punk Princess

A girl equally comfortable in the alleyways and department stores, Cherry Howard aims to showcase that all of life can be a party - if you just let it be so. Maybe Cherry's past the big 3-5, but she's setting out to prove that age is just a number - like how many shots you can down.

Booker Notes: Fun and friendly, Cherry brings a lot of energy to the show and to the backstage environment. Still, as the oldest worker we have, and a not-particularly proficient in-rig talent, she might be transitioning to more of a gatekeeper role soon.

Gail Lothario - Golden Gal

Daughter of legend Guy Lothario himself, Gail is bonafide wrestling royalty. Still, this high-achieving youngster is not content to rest on her laurels, and together with Cassidy Gilmour, she’s quickly established as the current heads of the tag division, their Next Gen pairing ruling the roost. Her star is rising high, but will this teen dream turn out to be a supernova?

Booker Notes: A main eventer in the making, Gail is gutsy, committed, and somehow convinced by Ebony to have signed a contracted deal with us. She’s almost certain to leave once places like the AWF come calling, but for now? We fight.

Cassidy Gilmour - The Pink and Black Attack

As soon as she walk out in her signature pink and black - there are no ifs and buts about it: Cassidy Gilmour is a Hart at heart. A protege of TEW Female Wrestler of the Year Jess Hart herself, Cassidy brings youth, determination, and that infamous Figure Four Leglock to AMAZON.

Booker Notes: Together with Gail, Cassidy looks to have a very promising future, and one that’s already gotten her jobs in Japanese fed HONOUR’s women’s division. Scheduling’ll probably be more than a little bit there, considering the toll transcontinental travel can take, but the fact remains that she’s a young buck with a lot of upside. And she’s not a total ass backstage! Amazing.

Liberty Belle - Fighting for the Red, White and You

Left at an orphanage swaddled in an American flag blanket, Liberty Belle’s journey to the squared circle has been nothing short of inspiring. Pleasant and patriotic, the Belle carries the dreams of her countrymen with an ever present grin.

Booker Notes: So, okay, that’s former exotic dancer Liberty Belle to you. Liberty’s someone Colby knows from his past company, and while her former profession has left some of the more conservative ladies a little nauseous, Liberty’s good cheer is infectious - even if the fact that she barely had a year of training (being generous) holds her back to this day.

Brit Riley - Redefining Riley

While there are other famous last names on the AMAZON roster, Brit’s is perhaps one that strikes a slightly different note. It’s also one that she herself is tired of rehashing, but when your dad (even if you barely knew him) steals money from a promotion on it’s last legs, what’s there to do? According to Brit, suit up and prove that you’re the best Riley in town, one pin at a time.

Booker Notes: Brit’s last name has undoubtedly caused her a lot of grief when trying to get up the ranks of wrestling, but it’s undoubtedly made it a lot easier to scoop an otherwise promising talent like her. Considering the relative dearth of young heels lower on the midcard, it might be best to have her turn, although choosing her wouldn’t exactly be in good taste.

Nadine and Nancy - Sweet Kiwis

Hailing from the beaches of New Zealand, these beautiful bottle-blondes are all about living it up - within their means. Escorted by their fellow compatriot of chill Surfer Boy Brad, the Dolls are following their bliss, even if it means causing a few wipeouts.

Booker Notes: While our definite jobber team, both Nadine and Nancy bring upsides, Nancy more in the form of her extensive experience back in Aussieland, and Nadine, in the form of her husband being the one to actually plot out matches here. Both are unlikely to get pushes, at least for a bit, but they’re fun and keep the crowd excited, so why not?

She might look like a sweetheart, talk like a sweetheart, and in fact be a sweetheart, but when she gets in the ring, Jenny Lane is one tough mother. What she lacks in mean, she more that certainly makes up for with moxie.

Booker Notes: Another sweetheart backstage, Jennifer’s a real promising worker who’s effort is always evident. It’s just a matter of finding the right way to promote her, really.

So, I felt I might as well try to actually do a dynasty, and so I wanted to do AMAZON in the Thunderverse because all-female companies are generally not used for these sorts of things, as well as because the AMAZON product is somewhat intriguing. Sure, it bills itself as Women's Sports Entertainment, but Comedy gets Medium emphasis, so I'll try to work with that a bit.

Please, though, feel free to give me ideas or advice, because I'm mainly just playing this by ear.

The show begins with silence. Then, a cough from the ring announcer, before he quickly rushes onto the actual planned introduction. "Now coming to the squared circle is our owner, our founder, Regina of the Running Bulldog, Lady of the Night, yes that one, you guessed it, former WWWE Ladies' Champion and Ultimate Absolute Queen of Queens, Ebony!"

An impassive look on her face, Ebony struts to the ring. The audience claps in respect, although this then turns to fear after she locks eyes with one particularly lecherous fan and stares at him for a good few seconds. Soon, though, she makes it up, and takes the mic.

“It’s been five months since we’ve got started,” she begins. “Five months since we came into the ring and showed those fools down in Chicago,” she quirks an eyebrow. “What women in charge of women can really do.”

“It’s easy to go on and talk that big talk, but all the ladies here have gone out and shown that they can strut their stuff just as well, right?”

“So, there. Here’s to a new year, here’s to new life, here’s to AMAZON, all that stuff, but I’d just like to leave you with one last thing.”

“Welcome to the Jungle. Hope you have fun.”

With that, Ebony drops the mic, and walks back into the darkness.

Behind her, a lowly staffer runs to pick up the mic, still making static noises.

Perhaps more serviceable than spectacular, the match does it's job as an opener, showcasing two women who are solid in the ring if nothing else. Meanwhile, the mysterious woman accompanying Dobson flaunts her beauty as the ringside action continues.

Initially Jennifer seems to be able to get something going, with a stiff strike leaving Dobson on the ground. She goes for the top rope and jumps, ready to make herself the Main Attraction, but instead takes a pair of knees to the chest, leaving her dazed. From there, the pin is easily made.

On DVD and live streams of the show, the scene now transitions to local surfer dude Surfer Boy Brad. He is puttering around backstage, looking for something, or his two charges, when he notices her.

The mysterious woman is back, now lounging in front of one of the dressing room doors. Other than a K at the very end, the letters are obscured by her body.

“Oh, hey,” Brad begins, his normal surfer chill swept away by the beauty in front of him. “Well, uh, I-hello?”

She smiles back beatifically, like the Mona Lisa. If the Mona Lisa were blonde or wearing a zebra-print tube top and miniskirt combo. Brad then continues attempting to salvage the conversation.

“What I mean to say is, is that yes, well-”

With a smirk, she puts a finger up to his lips. She begins to speak, with a hint of an Eastern European accent.

“The name? Is Katya.”

The camera cuts back to the ring, Where Scarlett Slater is still getting her makeup touched up by stylist Destiny before the bell goes off, much to Next Gen Fem’s (and the fans’) consternation. She is finally ready, though, and a great clash ensues. Between brattiness and brawn, stacks of money versus mere bags, four warriors duking it out, except for the fact that it is completely clear that Vannah and Scarlett are way in over their heads.

It is Scarlett who takes the brunt of the abuse, with one particularly humiliating spot in which an attempted slap gets turned into an armbar by Cassidy Gilmour. Still, with a determination borne out of never being told no according to Felder, and being a spoiled bish with less friends than zeroes in her bank account according to DeLois, she is able to crawl over to the ropes and tag in Vannah.

While still on shaky ground, (and shaking timing), the Big Leagues’ efforts to prolong the match are rewarded when Destiny spritzes Referee Quentin Reed with perfume. In the DVD cut, Serenity Barrera is shown receiving a call from an unknown number. Ever the risk-taker, she picks her phone up.

“Who is this?” She asks. Silence.

“The Queen,” is what can be heard over the phone. “The Great Queen. The Best Queen. The Yasss Queen. The one and only.”

Quickly, Serenity’s expression changes from confusion to annoyance, and she puts the phone down. As she is about to exit, however, she is stopped. By who?

For those in the live audience, however, what immediately follows that trainwreck of a match is a far more straightforward bout. Former MMA fighter Horne is noticeably uncomfortable approaching the ropes, but this lends itself well to the rough style of All Hallows Eve, who is able to get a quick one-two count off of a DDT. A notable lack of chemistry is present between the two, but the action is still watchable.

Despite the mockery thrown her way by DeLois - “She’s like a bird who can’t fly!” Horne’s consistent aggression is able to overpower the slighter Eve, and fittingly enough earns the pin with one of her famed Superkicks.

Jamie Vamp begins by slithering under the ropes in the ring, revelling in the boos the audience throws her way. She flips her hair, winks at the few fans cheering, and holds the microphone up to her mouth.

“Hey, friends! I know you’ve all been looking for a taste of me, and as the charitable woman I am, I’m here to make a little announcement.

For the past few months now, I’ve been Iaying low, playing real nice, but the time for niceties is over.

I’ve been building up a real who’s who of ladies like me here, ladies you’ll all be real scared of, but you know what?

A classic David vs. Goliath match up, except for the fact that the David here is wearing leather. Many proclamations are made of Layla’s threat status, ranging from Felder’s warnings that “she’s killed before, and looks happy to do it again,”, to DeLois’ concerns that she’s seen her around South Central before, and that “You don’t go to South Central without being one tough mother.”

These threats do have a basis in Fyre’s in-ring skill, though, her strength almost getting the better of Angelique when able to set up a powerbomb. In the end, it’s the veteran’s experience which wins out when a well-executed running hurricanrana allows Angelique the ability to hit a Glam Rox from the top rope.

Perhaps it’s the animosity shown in their backstage segment, or perhaps their shared stats as former AWF Starlets now in the Indies, but both women go into this match with an abandon which makes it all the more entertaining. It’s Harmony who seems to gain the upper hand, with a sunset flip into a roll up pin which gets to one, then two - before Referee Reed realizes she’s pulling on Serenity’s shorts. This leads Harmony to begin bickering with AMAZON’s head official as Serenity lays on the ground, while Felder and DeLois having the same argument back in the comment box.

As such, everyone is surprised when Serenity gets back up and plants a big boot right in the head of Harmony, sending the reigning Queen of the Ring straight back to the ground. Such nasty exchanges characterize the match, rapid momentum shifts leaving it all in doubt, until a reverse kneeling facebuster by Nolen is followed up by a split-leg leg drop, leading her to do the splits for the cover, the win, and the title defence.

Harmony grins ear to ear as she is once again handed the Queen of the Ring, as she motions for the microphone….and a plastic tiara.

“Did she have that before?” Colby Felder asks. Mya DeLois says nothing, but her sound of her eyes rolling is almost audible.

“THE QUEEN STAYS QUEEN,” is what Harmony Nolen announces, tiara perched precariously on her afro-ed head. “That Serenity may have tried to play me, tried to play games with me, but who came out on top? Who was the one who showed she was regal royalty up in all of that stuff? Me? The Queen. The true queen, the one and only queen.”

Still clutching her belt, she climbs up onto the ropes, now beginning to argue with the increasingly vocal crowd.

“What, you mad that I beat little wannabe Joan Jett? She your Captain Awesome, your inspiration in life? First of all, stupid, no, never ever should you have her as that, but second? You want a good girl? Someone who kisses babies, speaks nice, does all that?”

She cackles, before grinning again. Sharper, this time.

“Good girls might get your love, but this?” She points to the belt.

“Bad girls get it, and a whole lot more.”
