Welcome to Nitro we are live from the Civic Center in Saginaw Michigan. Just over 3 weeks away from the upcoming Clash of Champions ladies and gentlemen we have a very Special edition of Nitro tonight as we have got Big Bubba Rogers taking on Sting later tonight on TNT.

Booker T vs Maxx Muscle

Booker T makes his way to the ring to a pop from the crowd, he is set to be going one on one with Maxx Muscle next on Monday Nitro. Harlem Heat is of course in action at the upcoming clash. That match will be against the Blue Bloods for the WCW Tag Championship. Both men are in the ring and the bell rings. Maxx Muscle gets the jump on Booker T but booker whips him to the corner and catches him with a body slam. Booker continues to work and hits Maxx with a nice swinging neck breaker. Booker continues to stomp and beat on Maxx and sends him into the corner. Booker is totally in control of this one to open up Nitro. Maxx gets up out of the corner and tries to mount some offense to no avail as Booker hits him with the Scissor Kick and makes the cover for a dominating performance against Maxx Muscle. Bobby says Booker may have got an easy win tonight but he thinks Harlem Heat are worried about the tag team title defense at the clash

Big Bubba Rogers vs Sting

Big Bubba Rogers comes out and says tonight in front of all of these rednecks he is about to change the scene here at WCW. He is sick and tired of Sting thinking he is the best around here. He says he plans to take out Sting tonight and then Hulk Hogan next, Rogers says he’d take them both out tonight if Hogan was in the building. He calls out Sting to get out here and start this fight. Big Bubba is fired up tonight. Pacing around the ring as he waits for Sting to answer his call.

Sting comes out to a loud reaction. He’s on a path for another shot at the WCW World Title but standing in his way tonight is Big Bubba. It is announced during the match Sting’s opponent for Clash of Champions will be The Gambler. The two face off in the ring and Bubba catches Sting with the first flurry of offense that has Sting reeling in the ropes. Sting regains his wits as the capacity crowd here in Michigan gets behind him the Stinger ends up catching Big Bubba in the Scorpion Deathlock and its all over with Sting getting the win here tonight. That’s all for us here tonight on Nitro! Catch us this weekend on WCW Saturday Night on TBS.

<p>Wide World of Wrestling News and Rumors Week 1 January 1996</p><p> </p><p>

-It is rumored that the WWF is looking to add some new talent to their roster in advance of this year’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. This is likely in an effort to bring in some names to increase PPV buyrates.</p><p> </p><p>

-<strong>Changes in the business:</strong> 1995 was quite a year and the industry continues to change and we head into 1996. A big change we are seeing is the rise of more pay-per-view shows. More pay-per-views mean lesser buy rates, however we can’t be certain if it is solely to blame for declining viewership. The smaller companies in the U.S. faced a tougher year last year and we will see if they can rebound this year. WCW Nitro went head to head with Monday Night Raw and came out at the end of the year actually ahead of the WWF in viewership. </p><p> </p><p>

-<strong>What Will 1996 look like?</strong> How will WCW continue to change as they look to the long term of taking the U.S. market and expand world wide. WCW will need to be strong for Turner Broadcasting and to continue to battle in the Monday Night War. WWF is shaky right now. However new PPV, RAW and Superstars broadcasting deals will help them secure more international coverage. Of course the other question is what can ECW do this year?</p><p> </p><p>

-<strong>WWF prediction:</strong> I think this is the year WWF falls from the top of the world of wrestling. Declining viewership and a strong WCW product could spell trouble for Titan Sports. It seems like 1996 will be built around Bret Hart, they also have Shawn Michaels who could be the best performer in the United States. It appears Razor Ramon, Psycho Sid and The Undertaker are poised to be the main heels in the WWF this year.</p><p> </p><p>

-<strong>WCW Prediction</strong>: Nitro has won 7 of the last 15 weeks of the Monday Night War , along with 4 straight weeks including this past week’s show. The issue could be that WCW has been giving away PPV main events free on TV. WCW has the money, the talent and the TV deals on it’s side however. WCW Saturday Night is still getting good ratings on the weekend as well. WCW has better talent but one could argue the WWF has a better booking staff backstage along with experience that could set them apart.</p><p> </p><p>

-WCW has announced the card of Clash of Champions. It will have 10 matches. Five of which we know at this point.— Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko taking on The Road Warriors, Johnny B.Badd defending his title against Bunkhouse Buck, Harlem Heat defends the tag titles against The Blue Bloods, One Man Gang defends the US Title against The Warlord and Sting taking on The Gambler.</p><p> </p><p>

-WCW Pay-Per-View Schedule 1996: As of right now the WCW Pay Per View schedule is as follows:</p><p>

February- Superbrawl 6</p><p>

March- Uncensored </p><p>

May- Slamboree</p><p>

June- The Great American Bash </p><p>

July- Bash at the Beach </p><p>

August-Hog Wild</p><p>

September-Fall Brawl</p><p>

October-Halloween Havoc</p><p>

November- World War 3</p><p>

December- Starrcade</p><p> </p><p>

WCW Bookings- Next week’s Nitro is scheduled for Big Bubba Rogers & Lex Luger vs The Road Warriors. There have been matches for the following weeks Nitro scheduled as well, The Main Event is going to be The Enforcer Arn Anderson taking on Hulk Hogan. We also have Harlem Heat taking on Men at Work.</p>

Big Bubba will be tagging up with Lex Luger this week coming up on Nitro as they take on The Road Warriors in what is a huge matchup. That’s Monday Night on TNT but here tonight he has got Pittman who is making his way down to the ring. Dusty Rhodes thinks Pittman may have a chance to take down the big man tonight. However he looks a bit intimidated as Big Bubba overpowers Pittman into the corner. Pittman gets out and avoids Bubba for a minute but is sent back to the corner where he eats some right hands. A missed clothesline allows Pittman to gain some momentum however an attempted leap to the outside by Pittman is no good and he gets slammed on the steel railing. Bubba beats him down on the outside for a bit before returning into the ring. Pittman gets a boot up in the corner and follows it up with a good kick that gets Bubba down. Bubba soon turns it around and throws Pittman down with a big chokeslam. Bubba applies a choke in the center of the ring but Pittman momentarily turns it around before being caught yet again by the big man. A big slam to the mat but Pittman surprisingly kicks out. Pittman with an atomic drop then with a few forearms but Big Bubba just keeps coming back for more. Wait a minute! That’s Luger! <span style="color:#9932CC;"><span style="font-size:12px;">Backstage at Saturday Night</span></span></p><p><span style="color:#9932CC;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></span>Luger enters the backstage area where he meets up with Ric Flair. Luger says he has one question for Flair. He says Flair’s time is up in WCW. Flair asks Luger if he knows who he is talking to and Luger replies yes. He says it’s the so called legends like Flair that in his opinion have been taking the spotlight away from Luger. Luger has a problem with that. Luger says Flairs last big run is over. Flair says he dosent think Luger is man enough to end anything with Flair’s name on it. They face off and Luger slaps The Nature Boy with a cheap shot and he then leaves to go to the locker room.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#9932CC;"><span style="font-size:12px;">Dick Slater vs Fidel Sierra</span></span></p><p>

Fidel Sierra is on his way to the ring with a purpose, going head to head with “Dirty” Dick Slater. Slater gets to the ring and is met with boos. Bell rings and the two circle around the ring before locking up and Slater on the early advantage with a shoulder tackle. Sierra gets up and on the offense with hard chops and strikes in the corner which eventually get Slater down. Sierra still ahead of Slater as the match goes on. If you’re late to join us ladies and gentlemen we saw Lex Luger cheap shot WCW Champion Ric Flair backstage earlier tonight. Sierra and Slater brawl around the outside before returning to the ring. Slater gets Sierra with a back body drop and gains some momentum but Sierra drops him again and drops an elbow on a downed Slater. Sierra continues the offense. Sierra eventually gets Slater with a Piledriver and picks up a win here on Saturday Night.</p><p> </p><p>

Flair is furious Luger was able to get to him and cheap shot him with o repercussions from the Horsemen, things are tense between Flair and the 3 other Horsemen. Arn tells Flair the brotherhood is still there for each other. Arn says they need to focus on his match tonight against Randy Savage. Dusty says The Horsemen look shaky. They exit but Flair is obviously hot at the events that have happened tonight.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#9932CC;"><span style="font-size:12px;">Randy Savage</span></span></p><p>

The Macho Man is with Gene Okerlund before the main event. Randy Savage says that he has put his time in on the road, he’s been to hell and back 12 times and for what? To finally get to the top of the business, which is here in World Championship Wrestling brother! His match with Arn is next!</p><p> </p><p>

He sends Savage to the corner and gets him down. Arn stays in control until Savage catches Arn with a hard shot. Savage goes off the top with an elbow drop down on Arn. As soon as Arn can get to his feet Savage sets him down for another elbow drop. Savage looks to have the match won, and all of a sudden from the back out comes members of the Dungeon of Doom! The bell rings frantically as the match is thrown out. Hogan and Savage fight off members of the Dungeon for a bit but the numbers game is just too strong for the two. The Dungeon of Doom turn to the members of The Horsemen and we may see an explosion here but no! Sullivan sets The Giant loose on Flair at ringside, and the Horsemen stand idly by!! The rest of the Dungeon joins in on the beatdown as Arn, Chris and Brian make their way to the exit to a capacity crowd’s worth of boos. They have just turned on Ric Flair. -Some in WCW were unhappy with the booking of the Johnny B. Badd vs Lord Steven Regal television title match. Supposedly the discussions backstage led most to believe the title was going to Steven Regal however that was not the case as the show aired, whether this was planned or a last minute change remains to be seen.

-Rumoured plans for Superbrawl include a tag team main event featuring the Road Warriors and likely a WCW World Heavyweight Title match.

Wide World Of Wrestling News Week 2 Feburary 1996

-WWF Raw won the ratings war again last week beating WCW by a good margin. They also continue to be aggressors in the war between companies and many are wanting to know what WCW’s response will be.

-WCW has made the Superbrawl main event between Ric Flair and Big Bubba Rogers a cage match. WCW hope this will draw more interest to the PPV in response to declining viewership on that platform.

-WWF have set the lineup for their In Your House PPV. Bret Hart will be taking on Razor Ramon a WWF World Title match. Psycho Sid vs Owen Hart. A four way match between Savio Vega, Steve Austin, Avatar and Barry Horowitz, Bob Backlund vs 1-2-3 Kid and Rad Radford vs Duke Droese.

-It is believed WCW is looking to crack down on the backstage drug and alcohol use. This is a problem throughout wrestling however there is pressure from the top of WCW to crack down on it within the company.

-There is fear within the WWF that both Kevin Nash & Scott Hall will be going to WCW when their WWF contract expires.

WCW Saturday Night

Attendance:6,800

First Union Arena, Wilkes-Barre, PA

Dave Finlay came out for an interview and was booed by the fans. Finlay cut a promo saying he isn’t going to show us everything he has tonight but in the long run we will all see what he’s made of. Finlay has a match against Disco Inferno coming up next on Saturday Night!

Dave Finlay vs Disco Inferno

Finlay pinned the Disco Inferno in 5:54. This was a good match. Inferno hit Finlay with a lot of offense and got him down for an Elbow Drop but Finlay kicked out. Finlay rebounded and got back into this one finishing things off with a Celtic Cross for the 3 count and victory.

The Giant did an interview saying that Ric Flair may have beat him but he and the Dungeon of Doom are going to get their chance to get back at Flair.

The Warlord vs Sgt. Craig Pittman

The Warlord pinned Pittman after a Diving Clothesline. This actually was a good match as the two have chemistry in the ring when working together.

Ric Flair vs The Gambler

Ric Flair won by submission over The Gambler in 7:54. The Gambler did his job well in there. Ric Flair hit his spots. Flair did a nice drop kick and a devastating neckbreaker for a near fall. Flair also hit a crossbody off the top rope. Flair also took some stiff chops and kicks from The Gambler before getting the win with a Figure Four Leglock.

Ric Flair, facing Big Bubba Rogers at Superbrawl tomorrow night, told us he will do whatever it takes to lock on the Figure Four and make sure that Big Bubba taps out to the Nature Boy. Woo!

Brian Pillman did an interview. He said that he doesn’t like Flair and he knows Flair doesn’t like him. Pillman went on to say he hates Flair and tells him that he’s working his way to the front of the line and is ready for another shot at the WCW World Title.

Brian Pillman vs Kurasawa

Brian Pillman pinned Kurasawa in 11:28. The match started fast and aggressive. Pillman hit a high legdrop on Kurasawa on the ring apron. They brawled to the outside where Pillman sent Kurasawa’s back into the ring apron. Pillman got heat from the crowd here. Kurasawa came back with some big elbows and started to get the crowd cheering. Pillman came off the top rope with a crossbody before Kurasawa hit some moves which ended in him locking in an armbar however Pillman got to the ropes. Later in the match Kurasawa hit Pillman with a belly-to-belly before locking in a Boston Crab but Pillman got to the ropes again. Kurasawa went for a double axehandle chop but Pillman got out of the way and made the comeback hitting Kurasawa with Air Pillman for the win.

Double A and Big Bubba did an interview. Arn said they would beat the Road Warriors and that the Horsemen would eventually beat Flair. Arn said after Superbrawl he or Brian are gonna be the ones with the next title shot. Big Bubba was backstage and kind of had an issue with the statements Arn was making. He said he’s winning the title at Superbrawl and that no Horsemen have what it would take to beat him one on one.

Road Warrior vs Big Bubba/Double A

Road Warriors beat Big Bubba and Arn Anderson in 2:43. Bubba and Anderson couldn’t gel as a tag team. Arn had Animal in an anklelock before Animal reversed it knocking Arn into Big Bubba. The Road Warriors then hit a Doomsday Device on Arn and instead of making the save Big Bubba let it happen. Possibly as revenge on Arn for comments made earlier. Be sure to join us for Superbrawl for Ric Flair vs Big Bubba Rogers for the WCW World Title and Arn Anderson is going to find himself a partner for another shot at the Road Warriors!
