WCW Mondy Nitro opens up with Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in the ring. Ric has the WCW world title draped over his shoulder nd a mic in his hand. Arn is looking pleased as punch as Ric starts to talk.

Ric Flair: Greensboro...WOO! You are Ric Flair country! Now then, last week I faced one of my toughest opponents in the Ultimo Dragon but I was able to pull off a victory after a hard fought battle. Arn, you picked one heck of an opponent for me and there were times during that match that I thought I might not be able to pull it off.

Arn Anderson: When you tasked me with picking you an opponent I knew I couldn't let you down Ric but I may have gone too far in picking someone as skilled and quick as Ultimo Dragon. Now, tonight I face off against Randy Savage and if by some miracle he can defeat me then he will have earned himself a shot at your WCW World Championship. If Randy fails to beat me, well you get to take the PPV off.

Ric Flair: Arn, if anyone else was facing Randy I might be worried but with you facing off against Randy I am sure you will be walking away with the win. After ll, you are a Horseman and the Four Horseman are the elite of the elite.

Arn Anderson: Indeed we are Ric. Greensboro, you are going to witness what happens when a fool steps into the ring with a Horseman. Randy, I don't know how you're still up and walking after the last time you stepped into the ring with one of your betters but after tonight you might just be forced to retire!

The Rock N Roll Express Vs Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit
In a decent match, Rock 'n' Roll Express defeated Benoit and Malenko in 7:42 when Ricky Morton defeated Chris Benoit by pinfall with a Missile Dropkick.

Benoit and Malenko are done!
After the match is over Benoit and Malenko get into a shouting match until Chris kicks Dean below the belt. Benoit follows it up by DDT'ing Malenko before he walks off. The announcers comment that this is the end of their partnership.

”Hacksaw” Jim Duggan w/Madusa Vs Meng w/Jimmy Hart
In a decent match, Jim Duggan defeated Meng in 8:01 by pinfall with a Running Clotheline Tackle. During the match Matt Borne came out and watched from the top of the ramp, slowly clapping his approval after Duggan was declared the winner.

The Lords of the Ring Vs Harlem Heat w/Sister Sherri
In a decent match, The Lords of the Ring defeated Harlem Heat in 8:13 when Rick Martel defeated Stevie Ray by submission with a Boston Crab following a botched interference attempt by Sister Sherri.

The Scorpion Cabal is born!
When the show comes back from commercial we see Ric Flair, Kevin Sullivan, Lanny Poffo, Jimmy Hart, Paul Ellering, and Vader seated at a round table looking at the Black Scorpion who is standing up. The Black Scorpion begins to speak in a slow and deliberate manner.

Black Scorpion: Gentlemen, thank you for accepting my invitation. For too long we have tried to go after our enemies alone only to fail again and again. As you have seen over the last several weeks, when we work together we can accomplish anything. Now, Vader has his orders for dealing with Sting, Hulk Hogan is on the shelf, and Randy Savage will be finished as soon as Ric gets done with him. My benefactor is very pleased with what we have done so far and he has big plans for what we can accomplish in the future! The Scorpion Cabal shall rule the wrestling world!

All the men gathered cheer Black Scorpion as the scene fades to black and Monday Night Nitro is once again on the screen.

Junkyard Dog Vs Dark Sting
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Dark Sting defeated Junkyard Dog in 8:20 by submission with the Complete Scorpion Deathlock. As JYD tapped out the announcers talked about Mr. J. L. being forced to retire after he was put into the move last week.

Ron Simmons isn't cleared to wrestle!
Paul Orndorff unexpectedly came down to the ring with the WCW TV Championship. The announcers were confused and wondered why Orndorff had the TV title with him. Orndorff grabbed a mic and began to speak.

Paul Orndorff: You are probably wondering what I am doing out here with the WCW TV Championship, well the answer is simple. Ron Simmons failed the mandatory pre show drug test, testing positive for steroids. WCW takes steroid use seriously and Ron has been stripped of the title and will not be allowed to compete again until he tests clean. Despite Ron testing dirty you fans will still be treated to a WCW TV Title match because the sixway between Scott Armstrong, Dick Slater, Bunkhouse Buck, Squire David Taylor, Lord Steven Regal, and Dave Finlay will be to crown a new WCW TV Champion! Thank you and enjoy the rest of the show.

WCW TV Title Match
In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Lord Steven Regal defeated Dick Slater, Bunkhouse Buck, Squire David Taylor, Dave Finlay and Scott Armstrong in a Sixway match in 8:54 when Lord Steven Regal defeated Dick Slater by pinfall with an Exploder Suplex. Lord Steven Regal wins the WCW World Television title.

Eddy Guerrero and Earl Robert Eaton Vs The Powers of Pain w/Paul Ellering
In a decent match, Eddy Guerrero and Earl Robert Eaton defeated The Powers of Pain in 7:50 when Earl Robert Eaton defeated The Barbarian by pinfall with an Alabama Jam as Eddy held Barbarians leg from the outside.

Missy Hyatt getting the dirt from Sting
Missy Hyatt is backstage with Sting making small talk before she realizes she is live. Missy quickly goes into interviewer mode and starts to ask Sting questions.

Missy Hyatt: Sting, you heard all the claims Black Scorpion has made over the last few weeks, is there any way he is someone from your past back for revenge?

Sting: Missy, the claims made by Black Scorpion are complete garbage. The man who helped me to become the wrestler I am today, a man you knew very well, is dead and I am sick that someone would try to drag his name through the mud. Eddie Gilbert had his demons, you know that Missy, but he was a good man and he would have never shred the secret to the Complete Scorpion Deathlock with a psycho like Dark Sting. Black Scorpion, I may have been distracted by Vader but as soon as I am done with him I will be coming for you and that wannabe Dark Sting!

Missy Hyatt: I was married to Eddie and I can tell you that he had no proteges or wrestlers whom he trained that would ever do the things Black Scorpion has done. Can you promise me that you will clear his name Sting?

StingMissy, I promise that I will not only clear Eddie of any involvement with this Black Scorpion but I will end Black Scorpion's career!

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Cactus Jack defeated One Man Gang in 7:52 by pinfall with a Double Arm DDT.

In a decent match, Sting defeated Diamond Dallas Page in 8:12 by submission with a Scorpion Deathlock.

Savage is back!
Randy Savage comes out to a round of loud cheers and he quickly runs into the ring. Randy is handed a mic and he begins to talk.

Randy Savage Oooh yeah! I can feel the love tonight! Ric Flair, you have tried to put obstacles in my way but they have been mere pebbles on the highway of life! Tonight, I will defeat your minion Arn Anderson and earn another shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship...a shot that I will not waste because I am going to beat you like the dog you are!

Randy Savage Vs Arn Anderson
In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Randy Savage defeated Arn Anderson in 7:45 by DQ after Terry Gordy ran into the ring and attacked Savage with a pipe to the back of his left leg. Arn and Gordy continued the assault after the bell rang and Nitro went off the air with Savage holding his left knee as Gordy and Arn walked off smiling.

Renegade's lawsuit successful!
In a shock ruling, WCW is being forced to pay $25,000 to former WCW wrestler Renegade for wrongful termination. Marc Mero filed a similar lawsuit and we will see if this ruling has any bearing on that case when it goes to trial in a few days.

Another wrongful termination lawsuit!
Koko B. Ware has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against WCW, probably emboldened by Renegade's $25,000 win against WCW.

I'm really digging the Sting/Dark Sting/Black Scorpion angle. Much better than the real life Black Scorpion angle in 1990.

Hoping Jerry Lynn comes back as himself as he's way too good to leave the company.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words, I hope the reveal lives up to expectations. BTW I had no idea Gilbert was mentioned on AEW, that is an eerie coincidence. Jerry Lynn is coming back as himself, I thought it would be a great way to put Dark Sting over and unmask Mr. JL off screen by having Dark Sting retire Mr. JL with the Complete Scorpion Deathlock.

Dick Slater attacks Lanny Poffo!
According to inside sources, Dick Slater attacked Lanny Poffo before WCW Saturday Night after Poffo was bragging about the size of his manhood, saying he was the real “Dick” in WCW. Slater had to be pulled off Poffo and when WCW President Bill Watts was made aware of the incident Slater was fired. Many inside the WCW offices think Watts is firing people too quickly and the company has already lost a wrongful termination suit, with 2 more yet to go to trial.

An excerpt from "Watts Championship Wrestling: The story of Bill Watts in WCW"

Looking back at February 1996...

Going into February I was feeling pretty good. WCW had beaten WWF in the TEW.com National Battle survey on the TEW website, the Black Scorpion storyline was getting over pretty well, and the absence of Hulk Hogan did little to affect our bottom line.

Then we went into our first Nitro of the month and Pez Whatley showed up wasted out of his mind on Quaaludes. Of course I fired him on the spot but apparently the boys didn't take to kindly to that as they had some fondness for Pez. The show itself was a hit as Vader made his debut and went to a draw with Sting.

Now, some people were confused about Vader debuting and demanding a match with Sting since Sting was in a storyline with the Black Scorpion. Well, the reason it came out of left field was because Vader was suppose to challenge Hogan but Hulkster was still under susension and the suits at Turner were not happy with Vader collecting a check for not actually wrestling.

Things got worse as we went into our first Saturday Night and Hawk got into a fight with Johnny B. Badd and I was forced to suspend him. This threw a wrench into our planned Powers of Pain/Road Warriors feud but we quickly came up with a plan to claim Hawk was injured in the assault at Clash and have Animal face the Powers in a series of one on one matches.

Animal had other plans as he went and got into a fight with Kurasawa at the second Nitro of the year and I had to suspend him too. This left us without tag team champions and no opponents for the Powers of Pain. Again we had to scramble and a tournament was slapped together to crown new tag champs. The Lords of the Ring were tapped to win the belts and we put the plan into motion.

Of course we couldn't hold an event without someone acting a fool and we had Chris Kanyon show up to the second Saturday Night wasted and Johnny B. Badd picked a fight with new hire Ultimo Dragon. I fired both of these guys as they were dead weight and I had no real plans for either of them. Kanyon's tag partner Mark Starr was told to find a new partner of he would be let go too.

The third Nitro of the year had no incidents before the show and we actually managed to put on a great show. We swerved the fans by having Public Enemy get beat up and knocked out of the tournament. We then put Eddy Guerrero, who we had a lot of faith in, and Bobby Eaton together to give The Lords of the Ring a great final match when they win the tag titles.

At this Nitro we also introduced the idea of a Complete Scorpion Deathlock that was developed by Sting's former trainer. This got the internet buzzing and many people were trying to get the coop and guess the identity of The Black Scorpion. Lucky for us no one was able to figure out the big surprise.

Heading into the third Saturday Night of the month Koko B Ware pulled a rib on Jerry Sags and I used the opportunity to fire him and save the company some money. I had hired Koko thinking he could still go but it was clear he was way past his prime. Luckily for us we were able to use this firing in our storyline a few months down the road. Junkyard Dog was left without a partner but again it worked well with our long term storyline.

Our last Nitro of the month had huge long term storyline implications, the fans just didn't realize it yet. We introduced the idea of the Scorpion Cabal and fans now got to see why the heels were working together in the previous weeks. We also had Ron Simmons vacate the TV title as the feud with Hercules went over like a wet fart and we needed to abort that ASAP. Lord Steven Regal got the nod and he went home the TV champ that night. I partly did this as the team of Eddy and Bobby had gotten over a lot more than we expected and Bobby Eaton would not be part of the Blue Bloods going forward, so the TV Title was Regal's consolation prize.

In all our scrambling to fix storylines Ric Flair had been lost in the shuffle and we chose to put him up against Randy Savage again for the World title. Ric was a little upset that he hasn't been a focus of the company but I assured him there were plans for him to be a major focus of the show very soon.

Missy Hyatt and Sting shared more screen time and we even got a Eddie Gilbert reference on the show. The fans are loving the interactions between Sting and Missy and we knew they would love what we had planned for them in the coming months. Everything seemed to be coming together nicely for the big reveal we had planned in March.

The last Saturday Night of the month saw Dick Slater attack Lanny Poffo so I was forced to fire him. Not a big loss but it did leave us down another tag team. This hurt us a lot more than it would have a few months ago since we chose to break up Benoit and Malenko recently. The fans were lukewarm on that feud but we needed another face with a strong skill set.

SuperBrawl was a very confusing PPV for the fans as we had the heels go over in a lot of our matches. We moved the Matt Borne/Jim Duggan feud along and introduced the infamous black glove to the story. Some fans started a Rat Pack chant when Borne raised the glove up. Speaking of Borne, his inclusion in the Black Scorpion storyline through fans off but it was just another bread crumb that helped us have the hottest storyline in wrestling history when we made the big reveal.

The Lords of the Ring were set to win the titles but Martel got injured during the match and we had to change the finish and give the win to Eddy and Bobby. At the time we were a bit upset because we had big plans for the Lords of the Ring but what we ended up doing with Eddy and Bobby was far more profitable so it all worked out in the end.

This month had a lot of workers getting fired and Turner management was very upset as the company was sued but damn near everyone we let go. Losing out to WWF in the TEW.com National Battle survey didn't help me any and Turner was threatening to let me go if things continued this way.

Things were set into motion to make March a lot better than February but of course life was not always as agreeable as you want it to be...

Mike Tenay talks a bit about Terry Gordy costing Randy Savage his match with Ric Flair but Bobby Heenan quips that “everyone with a brain knows you don't just face off against Flair on on one, you always have to be on your guard for the rest of the Four Horsemen.” The announcers keep talking about tonight's card when Dusty Rhodes gets word of a commotion in the back and they throw it to the backstage cameras. Backstage we see Randy Savage yelling and screaming that he “wants Gordy now!” as he grabs a referee by the shirt collar. Savae then heads down toward the ring area, pulling the helpless referee behind him. The cameras follow Randy and the crowd pops as he comes out on to the entrance ramp, referee still being dragged by the shirt. Randy ignores the crowd and keeps heading to the ring, the announcers note that Randy hasn't even changed into his ring gear. As Randy gets to ringside he yells at the referee to get into the ring and he grabs a microphone from the ringside techs before getting into the ring himself. Randy Savage: Terry Gordy, last night you attacked me and helped that scumbag Ric Flair keep the WCW title around his waist. Now, the suits in the back have given me a chance to dish out a little payback but I'm not waiting until later tonight. I want your punk ass in the ring right now! Get out here so I can teach you the lesson your daddy should have done a long time ago. Tenay calls Terry Gordy “an old school guy who is more than happy to answer a call out like this.” Heenan laughs and comments that “Gordy is a Horseman now and he isn't going to fall for this obvious attempt to take him off his game.
