(P) The Dregs vs The Hillbillies

I had to double check I didn´t do these pretictions already since this felt familiar :D. Joking aside, the end result is the same

(P) Trent Stevens vs Layton White

Stevens appearantly have some upside, not sure if White does but it haven´t looked like it.

(P) Madalene DeGeorge vs Adrianna Mitchell

Still trying to remember who was who in women division and since Madalene rings more bells I go with her.

Josilyn Darville vs Trinity Branch

I assume her getting into finals means that she´s still one of the top women in the division even if she didn´t get the belt.

Heavenly Bodies vs The Gwinn Brothers – GCW Tag Team Championship Match

They just won the belts and Heavenly Bodies would need a bit of a build-up before I could see them getting the belts in any case.

??? vs Nehemiah

I assume this is the big name signing considering the opponent and card position.

Marcus Kramer vs Dustin Robinson

Robinson is still higher in pecking order.

Pre-Show – The Dregs vs The Hillbillies

Once again, while they're not going to set the world on fire, The Dregs looked nice and like they were really putting in the work to get better. The Hillbillies, meanwhile, underwhelmed, but my expectations had never been sky high, so that's not too bad. Alonzo O’Toole won by claw hold in 5:58. (29)

Pre-Show – Trent Stevens vs Layton White

A little bit of a chance for Trent to show off and show me what he can do after laying down for a couple guys. Not a bad outing. His striking offense is fun and interesting, and Layton White, as much of a punk as he can be, still makes guys look good, even if he has to be coaxed to do it. There's a reason he's still collecting a check. Stevens won with a Neckbreaker in 9:15. (35)

Pre-Show – Madalene deGeorge vs Adrianna Mitchell

Just a simple tune-up match for Madalene, who more than most in that women's tournament showed a lot of potential and shine. Adrianna doesn't look bad, and she's a nice underdog babyface, but underdogs have to lose sometimes, and she's got a lot of time to polish her skills yet. Madalene got the win with a Face Plant in 7:46. (37)

We opened the show with a new wrestler making his appearance to some fanfare, a face known to anyone who'd watched WWB recently: MJ Abruzzi. 31 years old and with a technical style and effortlessly arrogant charisma, he'd been an upper midcarder in the company, and we'd managed to convince him to jump ship. He headed out with a microphone.

"Well, well, so this is GCW? Well, to all of you who have been living under a rock and haven't heard of me, allow me to introduce myself: my name is MJ Abruzzi. Some call me the Godfather of Wrestling, and I'm looking forward to showing you all just why that is the case. See, I've been cutting my teeth and making my name, but it was time to come somewhere that appreciated a man of my considerable talents and skills. A place where I could etch my name into the history books by acquiring some gold.

You see, I'm a prize fighter by nature. I don't fight unless there's something on the line. I came here to earn fight purses, and glory, and championships. So I'm calling my shot, as the new big man around here, the Godfather. I want the GCW Heavyweight Championship, and I don't care who I have to face to get it."

voovRf5.jpg

Someone clearly did, though, as Jack Raiden stepped into frame to face him.

"First of all, allow me to introduce myself," he said, extending a hand. "My name is Jack Raiden. Welcome to GCW. But with those pleasantries out of the way, I'm afraid I have to let you know that you can't just jump the line like that."

Abruzzi, who was about four inches shorter than Kodiak Jack, just slapped his hand away with a smile. "Yeah? You got a problem with me stating my intentions?"

"I have a problem with you thinking you're better than me and the other men in that locker room. But I'll tell you what. Dustin is owed a rematch for his championship, and I'm happy to let him take that shot. He proved he deserved it on Sunday when he beat Dale Whitlock. But I am the one with my eyes on that prize, and I think it's only fair that we settle this properly. You and me, in the ring, at Walk Through the Fire. Your real welcome to GCW. Hell, let's call it a trial by fire. And if you can beat Kodiak Jack clean in that ring, well, I won't have a big problem with you taking a shot at the Champion, and I doubt many people would. That sound fair to you?"

Abruzzi sneered, looking him up and down. "So that's how you want to play it, huh? Fine. You want to go one on one with the Godfather, we can make that happen. But I don't want to hear any crying when I embarrass you, big boy."

"No crying." Jack grabbed him by the shoulder as he turned to leave, his grip like iron. "And when I powerbomb you, I am putting you down at the back of the line. Remember that." (69)

Josilyn Darville vs Trinity Branch

Trinity Branch was the greenest woman on our roster by a country mile, at only 26, but talent doesn't come from nowhere. Josilyn, meanwhile, looked mean as anything as she got in the ring, and she took it to Trinity with all the frustration of a woman who just lost her shot at the title. Trinity showed some fire, but she was clearly out-classed as Josilyn pummeled her with kicks and strikes, and she won by Savate Kick in 7:34. (37)

Heavenly Bodies vs The Gwinn Brothers - GCW Tag Team Championship Match

A nice showing for the Heavenly Bodies, who brought their shiny and glamorous "body guy" gimmick to the main stage for a rare showing after racking up some wins on the pre-shows. Of course, they didn't look quite prepared for the Gwinn Brothers in their first defense of their new titles, but it was a nice showing. Jupiter in particular is a decent powerhouse, while Saturn still looks a little rocky. Either way, the Brothers looked a lot more polished and a lot more capable, and Bill got the win with a Backbreaker in 7:04 for their first successful defense. (41)

As they were celebrating, though, two men in ratty street clothes and beaked white masks ran out from the crowd to attack them from behind. Bill was whipped into the corner and hammered with knees, while Darrell walked into a monster spinebuster from the other. The two attackers battered them down, stamping defiantly on their titles, and slipped off their masks to reveal the Dregs, Gabe Pilcher and Alonzo O'Toole. (29)

gFw14NW.jpg vs J9D30hl.jpg

MJ Abruzzi vs Nehemiah

Well, MJ Abruzzi had an early opportunity to show himself as one of the top-dogs in the company, and he didn't disappoint. A smooth technical wrestler with a nasty streak, he worked over the larger Nehemiah seemingly with ease, battering him with stiff strikes and rolling around his offense. He had just a little bit of WWB's lucha flair in his quickness and smoothness in the ring, and it made him stand out immediately. Though it was a good match, the ending was never really in doubt and at 8:47, Abruzzi made him tap out to the Italian Deathlock. (48)

We went to one of the dark-room interviews with Poseidon next, who was sitting with the Heavyweight Championship draped over his shoulder.

"I've been telling you all for months, haven't I? That I am the King. The King of the Seas, and the King of this company. Well, I would say I have proven that nicely." He patted on the front plate of the championship. "With this, with my new golden crown, showing just who the power is here. I defeated the so-called standard bearer in Dustin Robinson, and I defeated the fiery upstart, the challenger to my power, our good lone Wolf. "

He smiled at that. "You see, you thought I was a fool, Wolf. You thought I would face you on an even playing field? Of course not. Only a fool does that. And I am no fool. I will do anything and everything to retain my championship, to hold onto my throne, to turn aside anyone who would try to defeat me. And what is a King... without a court? Without those who have sworn fealty to me? So allow me to introduce you to my second, and my protege."

o1IvcFt.jpg

Cue Antone Benner, who stepped in to loom behind him, the low lighting making interesting shadows on his painted face.

"I told you I'd learned to follow the darkness," he said, smirking widely. "The darkness of the deep ocean. It calls to me. And Poseidon, my King, told me to hurt you, Wolf. To embarrass you. To make you weak. I'd say I'd succeeded, don't you think? And maybe I'll do it again. Hurting you was so much fun. I'd like to keep playing. Let's see how much I can make you scream and bleed."

"You see, Wolf?" Poseidon asked. "A King knows how to use an army. A King has no problem turning aside challengers. And that's why I have no problem with you, Dustin. Or either the bold bear or the outsider who want to challenge me. I'll defeat you all, easily, because I am the true King in GCW, and my power and my wickedness are as deep as the ocean. So you can come at me again, Dustin Robinson, but I will turn you aside, and show you for what you truly are. Mortal. Crumbling. Your time is over, and mine is just beginning." (67)

Marcus Kramer vs Dustin Robinson

Despite that ominous proclamation, Dustin came out to the ring with no fear to face Marcus Kramer visible on his face. No, he came out ready to fight - thought it must be said, he looked a bit older suddenly than he did just a month ago. Maybe it's age catching up to him, or the psychological toll of losing the title, but he was not the same man who was the champion, no matter how he fought. In spite of that, though, he shrugged off Kramer's monstrous power and fought back against him valiantly, and won in 9:47 with his slingshot suplex. (54)

A perfectly solid show, with a nice debut and hopefully some new angles and stories spinning up. Plus, Poseidon should only be feeling his ribs for a little less than a month, which should mean he’s back in time for our next big show. Hopefully. (55) The ratings came in decent at .34 and 257k.

******

While we were wrapping up, Poseidon came up to me back stage. He’s a big man, 6’4 probably and that’s before you include the lifts in his boots, and between that and his on-screen persona, he can be pretty intimidating. Oh, sure, he’s not the sadistic King of the Seas in real life, the man whose real name is Gil Stockham, but he’s still a big name, an imposing figure, and my top champion, so suffice to say when he actually wanted to speak to me directly, I made time.

“What can I do for you, Poseidon?”

“I was watching the dark match,” he said, his Boston accent much thicker now that he wasn’t in character. I was glad of that, since it certainly wouldn’t suit the King of the Seas persona, but it was almost comical coming from the real man. “Those kids, Gabe and Alonzo.”

I knew how these conversations usually went, and I groaned on the inside, but I didn’t let it show. Maybe I was wrong. “What about them?”

“Gabe looks good,” he said. “Smaht idea to push ‘im. But Alonzo, he doesn’t sell worth a crap. I’m not impressed.”

Now that was perhaps true. The Hillbillies weren’t exactly worldbeaters, and hearing anyone complain about that in a company where Wolf Koziol was one of my top guys was a little funny, but Alonzo hadn’t exactly given them much shine while they were on offense.

“He’d be bettah off selling. You see me out there? I make who I’m wrestling look like a million bucks. I beat ‘em, sure, but it looks like I beat a killer.”

“You sure do,” I said, quickly. “And it’s a noble skill to have. He’s just young. I’ll let him know to tighten it up, and Joel and Izaiah to coach him, alright?”

“That’s good,” he said. He clapped me on the shoulder – with a hand damp from running through chilly wet hair. Lovely. “See that it happens. If I’m gonna be Champion, I wanna be runnin’ a tight ship.”

“Understandable, Poseidon,” I said, not daring to use his real name, any more than anyone else would. Maybe Mr. Dishman or Jerome Buck could get away with that. Not me.

He nodded, grunting. “Good. And, er, thanks. For the shot,” he said, patting the belt. “It was the right pick, but not everyone would have made it.”

“I know you won’t let me down,” I said.

“Never in my life,” he said, with just enough force that I wondered if I’d offended him. “Have a good night, Al. I’ll see you next week.”

Part of me wanted to point out that I was Alexander, never ‘Al,’ but it didn’t feel like the right moment, and he was already turning to walk off. I’d let it go. Sooner or later, I told myself, the vets would start phasing out and I’d hopefully have some young guys with built in respect. Who knew? Maybe by this time next year no one would be calling me ‘kid’ anymore and the like.

A man could dream.

*****

Luckily, Poseidon is only going to be hurt for about a month. He can still wrestle, too, but given his gimmick and position on the card, I'm happy keeping him in a promo-focused role for the time being. Only seems to make sense. The Sunset Army were an unfortunate casualty of me, honestly, just being momentarily dumb. I forgot that MJ would need a full month to wrap up with WWB before I could use him - so my plan had been to transition into this storyline a month earlier. Oops. And since the Sunset Army didn't really catch fire with the in-game popularity... Yeah, kind of a bummer. And man, I sure hope Billy Ray is the future! He's performing far and away better than I could have expected so soon, and where I'm at, he shows no signs of stopping.

And hey, thanks for helping me get to 100 posts! It kind of feels like its flown by already, and I'm not intending to stop any time soon.

Next Week:

MJ Abruzzi is an interesting debut. Good to see you manage to snag a talent of WWB. Looks like the next show is a job show, just helping to establish everyone. Also the Deep Sea Alliance (as I'm calling it for now) is really cool. I honestly didn't expect that (thought Benner was acting alone). Also I think Saturn turned into Sanzo somewhere along the line.

Predictions:

Preshow: Violet Bee def. Trinity Branch

This is based off how many they've won. Violet won her one match so far, Trinity lost hers, so I'm picking the Bee to win.

Preshow: Big Hank Banner def. Sawyer Rodriguez

BHB isn't losing anytime soon and definitely not to Sawyer Rodriguez

Preshow: Man Mountains def. Heavenly Bodies

I could be wrong here, but I feel like the Man Mountains won't lose here.

The Dregs def. Grey & White

A nice colour name combo is all Grey and White having going for them here. Dregs win to build them up for Walk Through the Fire

Darville & DeGeorge def. Derby & Mitchell

Darville and DeGeorge look like they're being built up as Criss's first feuds and as such, I can't see either of them losing here.

Antone Benner def. Tarzan Brownfield

Tarzan isn't like to win and definitely not over someone like Benner.

Dale Whitlock def. Ryan Osburn

I mean, if Ryan wins, something is wrong.

(P) Violet Bee vs Trinity Branch

You said Trinity is green so I´d assume that means she´s going to learn by putting other´s over.

(P) Sawyer Rodriguez vs Big Hank Banner

Banner continues his winning ways

(P) Heavenly Bodies vs Man Mountains

I do feel like you are slighly higher on Bodies than Mountains so far and with face champs, thinking you put the heel team over here.

The Dregs vs Grey and White

Well, they not going to lose to random pairing if they plan to challenge teh tag champs.

DeGeorge and Darville vs Derby and Mitchell

Feeling these two are the most likely challengers for current women champ

Antone Benner vs Tarzan Brownfield

Benner is doing more at the moment and if the plan is for him to feud with Wolf, then I don´t see him dropping to match to Tarzan here.

Dale Whitlock vs Ryan Osburn

Dale gets a win to keep him looking dangerous as he´s stable is still a big deal

Pre-Show – Violet Bee vs Trinity Branch

Testing out some more women’s talent. Trinity is still terribly green and so is Violet Bee, whom I hired pretty much just for being a masked female wrestler, which is a rarity on the market so she stands out for that, at least. In the ring, less so. Neither one blew me away, but they’re green, so we’ll see. Violet Bee won with a Face Crusher in 6:02. (20)

GzhClyg.jpg vs 4IdASUz.jpg

Pre-Show – Sawyer Rodriguez vs Big Hank Banner

I figure as long as I’m giving him ring time, hopefully Mr. Dishman will be happy., and maybe Hank will be happy too just racking up some wins He got the win, too, in 6:15, but looks about the same as usual. (21)

9bWYTHx.jpghhWDtYl.jpg vs QP3G9ld.jpgUG897Cl.jpg

Pre-Show – Heavenly Bodies vs Man Mountains

I’m just about done with the Man Mountains experiment, and while Izaiah and Joel keep telling me Grady is worth something, it might have to be in a new package down the road. Meanwhile, the Heavenly Bodies are impressing me at least a little for some young no-names, in ways that the Man Mountains haven't been. This time the Heavenly Bodies got the win, as Saturn hit a High Knee in 8:15. (28)

pnglGLe.jpgy50iMUn.jpg vs WmhKVM1.jpgGClpzRb.jpg

The Dregs vs Grey and White

Hey, now there’s a potential tag team, if only for the name. Not that I could push them much when Kurt can barely go six minutes in a tag team. Lord. The Dregs are looking good in their more extreme street punk gimmick, though, with the masks and all when they make their entrance, lunging at the crowd, jabbering and cackling, and generally seeming unhinged and dangerous. They kept it up in the ring, being vicious and mean-spirited from the word go, dominating the aging Kurt Grey and overwhelming Layton, and Gabe got the pin in 5:49 with a Spinebuster. (36)

iPMwsYN.jpg

We went to the masked Mean Machine for an interview.

"I've been walking around with this feeling, this feeling like I've got a rock in my shoe, you know? A sharp little rock, jabbing at me, all my day, all day long, just digging into the sole of my foot, and making me bleed. Do you know what that's like? Do you know how crazy that drives me? It drives me nuts! It makes me want to beat someone senseless! And I know just the person that I need, because he slipped that darn rock in my shoe.

I want Sebastien Durant! I want him in the ring again. You beat me on a fluke, but I'm not going to let that happen again. Be a man! Show me what you can do! Because what I'm gonna do is knock you out." (37)

8fvyQD4.jpg

Dustin Robinson had an interview after that.

"There were some dark days to end the year this year. Last Resort. The darkest day I've had in some time. I let myself down, and I let the fan downs. I let Poseidon get inside my head, I let him get the edge, and he exploited it. I lost that title, and there's no ways around that. We can talk about him cheating me, we can talk about him taking short-cuts, we can talk about the way he's been sending Benner to do his dirty work as of late, but none of that truly matters. He won. He's the Champion.

But that's not gonna stay the case. I lost, but I am here to climb my way back up the mountain. I beat Marcus Kramer. I beat Dale Whitlock. I can beat any man you put in front of me. I am the standard bearer for GCW, I am the man, and I will climb that mountain again. And like the show's name says, I will Walk Through Fire to get it. You're mine, Poseidon, and more than that, that Heavyweight Championship is mine. Count on it." (47)

kMX7dHf.jpg9BZcCjK.jpg vs IPc6bJ3.jpgjzEmeMl.jpg

DeGeorge and Darville vs Derby and Mitchell

A strong showing from our heels, though Lilyanna was probably the best in the ring, with Adrianna being green and dragging things down a tad. That’s fine, though, as this division clearly has at least some solid talent to show off. Darville got the pin off a Savate kick in 9:20. (46)

o1IvcFt.jpg vs XaZzcXq.jpg

Antone Benner vs Tarzan Brownfield

Antone slithered out nicely as the villain of the day, really embracing his psychopathic new character. Tarzan was the perfect undersized babyface to put against him, firing at him with running chops and kicks and the like, but Benner almost seemed to enjoy the pain before dishing out some of his own. He bullied the smaller Tarzan, and took advantage when he missed a top rope drop kick to stomp him into the mat and whip him around by his neck. A thrust kick to a seated Tarzan later and it was over at 13:20. (49)

cAnfqvK.jpg

We went backstage to Wolf Koziol next, who looked absolutely murderous, running his hands through his chair.

"You know, it's been a while since I met someone with an out and out deathwish, but Benner? I sure found one! You really want to interject in my business? You want to buddy up with Poseidon and stop me from winning what's rightfully mine? Well, don't you worry, if you're looking for someone to pound in your face, you've found the right man. I'm coming for Poseidon, and I'm coming for the title, but you've turned yourself into a fun little detour, and trust me, I've ridden the roads on my hog often enough to enjoy a good detour.

But see, this time? I'm not gonna end up throwing back beers in a roadside bar, or playing pool, or kissing some fine ladies that enjoy meeting strangers. No, this detour is going to take me down to Break Your Face Boulevard, and I'm going to enjoy stomping you into the dirt and making sure that your creepy clown face routine is over. And once I'm done washing your greasepaint off my knuckles? I'm coming for the King." (69)

UlFY9aV.jpg vs kzUgGEh.jpg

Dale Whitlock vs Ryan Osburn

I think the time that Dale spends in the main event is just about over, as he turned in another stinker. No selling, meandering action, he just doesn’t seem to have it anymore. Ryan worked a nice technical base for him, but they just didn't seem to gel together at all, and in general it was a disappointment. Luckily Billy Ray is on the up and up. Speaking of, Billy Ray interfered in the match, causing a DQ at 10:17, so that Osburn technically walked away with the win. (42)

Dragged down by another disappointing main event. Hopefully the likes of Benner, Wells, Bragg, and Abruzzi can keep rising, because we’re going to need them. Fast. (48) .31 and 233k viewers. Blech.

Next Week:

(P) Umari vs Aaron Redcloud

(P) Bertha Slay and Violet Bee vs Laurette Lorio and Rosemary Pfeiffer

(P) Rodriguez and Carleton vs Banner and Durant

MJ Abruzzi vs Kurt Grey

Black Hat Rodeo vs Osburn and Wells

I forgot how high up the card Ryan Osburn actually is honestly (I just checked the front page to see he is/was on Paris with Benner when this started. Still, surprised to see him picking up the win. So many big names being pulled down the card now (or soon) though. A few new names on the card next week too.

Predictions:

Preshow: Umari def. Aaron Redcloud

While Aaron is one of your future guys, he can take a loss. Throw in the fact Umari seems like a new signing, I'm giving him the win.

Preshow: Lorio & Pfeiffer def. Slay & Bee

Still not sure where the women here stand, so 50/50ing it.

Preshow: Banner & Durant def. Rodriguez & Carleton

More wins for Banner, with the added bonus of building up Durant too.

Kramer & Nations def. Man Mountains

Between Man Mountains failing to impress, your champions being faces and Kramer & Nations being your highest level tag team, I can't see them losing here.

MJ Abruzzi def. Kurt Grey

Nice way to build up"The Godfather of Wrestling" a bit. Hope Kurt doesn't tire himself out walking to the ring.

Black Hat Rodeo def. Osburn & Wells

Betting on the two singles wrestlers against a tag team is almost never a good idea.

"Kodiak" Jack Raiden def. Antone Benner

Antone is up there, but Jack is right up the top of your card and looks set to be Poseidon's next big feud. Possible assist from Wolf here though.

(P) Umari vs Aaron Redcloud

Assuming Umari is new signing but considering he´s on dark match with decent young talent instead of jobber, I´m going to give this one to Aaron as I feel this would be main show match if Umari would be big enough name to go over here.

(P) Bertha Slay and Violet Bee vs Laurette Lorio and Rosemary Pfeiffer

Not much idea to be honest and I feel this is pretty even but going with Slay and Bee mostly since Bee got a win last show and Slay did appear decent in the match write-up (even if she lost) on the only time I saw her in the show.

(P) Rodriguez and Carleton vs Banner and Durant

Bigger names

Kramer and Nations vs Man Mountains

Bigger names plus you been pretty clear on Man Mountains disappointing you

MJ Abruzzi vs Kurt Grey

These two are going towards differend directions with Abruzzi going up (if not there already) while Grey is certainly going down the pecking order.

Black Hat Rodeo vs Osburn and Wells

I believe you said you like to put actual teams over random pairings and while Osburn is a decent name, he´s not someone who´s pushed so I´d assume he takes the pin here.

Antone Benner vs Jack Raiden

Bit tough one as both have storylines going (and Benner could use a big win like this before challenging Wolf) but Raiden is the bigger name in my eyes and I don´t see him beating Sunset Army four against one to just lose here.

Milford Ice Palace, 842 in attendance</strong></p><p> </p><p>

It’s worth noting, at this juncture, that when I took over GCW we had exactly one Major Star rated wrestler: Poseidon. Now, we have five: Whitlock, Robinson, Raiden, Poseidon, and Koziol. That feels pretty darn good.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – Umari vs Aaron Redcloud</strong></p><p>

Umari is a new Japanese talent that it sounds like has a lot of potential upside. He didn’t necessarily show it here, but a lot of that is the fans not knowing him, and probably jitters. It happens. Redcloud with the Overhead Slam in 9:13. (18)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – Bertha Slay and Violet Bee vs Laurette Lorio and Rosemary Pfeiffer</strong></p><p>

More testing out our new women’s division and seeing what our various talent can do. Laurette is the last signing at the moment, and she’s green as grass. Eh. It happens. We'll just keep an eye on who improves and at what rate. Violet Bee with the Face Crusher in 7:19. (22)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – Rodriguez and Carleton vs Banner and Durant</strong></p><p>

Maybe a tag team in the future for Big Hank? Or maybe nothing’s in his future. We’ll see. It was fine. No one here had any special chemistry, and as usual Durant and Carleton impressed, and Banner and Rodriguez... less so. Durant with the Fallaway Slam in 6:31. (28)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="y9F4RTI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/y9F4RTI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="jfYdvJY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jfYdvJY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="UG897Cl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UG897Cl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="QP3G9ld.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QP3G9ld.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kramer and Nations vs Man Mountains</strong></p><p>

This is where the Man Mountains have ended up. Honestly, in the nearly four months I’ve had them they haven’t shown a lick of improvement. Scorpio Nations, on the other hand, is looking stellar, and rising to the occasion with Marcus. As usual, the Man Mountains were a couple of plodding big men, stumbling around and using rudimentary power moves. Kramer showed them how it was done, brute forcing them both with ease and shrugging off their offense for much of it, while Scorpio came in to pick at the bones. Scorpion Clutch on Beltran for the win in 10:27. (44)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="ckPwwbs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ckPwwbs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="kzUgGEh.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kzUgGEh.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

We went backstage to Carver Wells and Ryan Osburn, next, who were side by side for an interview.</p><p> </p><p>

"The Black Hat Rodeo has been interfering in a lot of my business lately," Carver opened. "Battering Dustin when he was on top, shooting for my North American Championship, running roughshod over anyone and everyone they like. Well I'm getting pretty tired of it. We both are."</p><p> </p><p>

"Absolutely," Ryan said. "The time has come that someone shows those cowboys their place. And me, personally? I'm looking for a crack at Billy Ray Bragg, too. I think it's been proven nicely that I can beat you, or your big sherriff, and someone needs to make sure that you don't get too big for your britches."</p><p> </p><p>

"Just like someone needs to make sure people stop getting hurt, and these Black Hats stop running their mouths. So tonight, we're going to war, and maybe at Walk Through Fire, we can settle this man to man, one on one. In whatever arrangement that takes. Whitlock or Bragg, I'm just looking for a fight."</p><p> </p><p>

"And Olivares and Marshall? Today is your turn, so get ready to fight." (46)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="gFw14NW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gFw14NW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="WmhKVM1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/WmhKVM1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MJ Abruzzi vs Kurt Grey</strong></p><p>

It was what’s expected of Kurt Grey at this point. He put in a decent performance, still talented and smart in the ring, but he's aging fast and can only do so much, and between that and the pure talent gap, MJ was the star. He looked vicious all over again, pummeling the veteran, twisting and stomping and kicking at his knee and ankle, and generally doing everything he could to cripple the man. It paid off, and the Godfather rolls to another win via submission in 5:45. (55)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="voovRf5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/voovRf5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Jack Raiden was backstage for an interview.</p><p> </p><p>

"You sure like to put on a show, MJ, I'll give you that, and you sure know how to sell yourself, too. I've seen you do a lot of talking, and to be fair, I've seen you do some fine work in the ring, too. 2-0 is nothing to sniff at, no matter the man. I understand that you consider yourself quite the hot shot, that you were a big deal where you came from, and I can respect that. But ultimately, you are a man who has stepped into my world. GCW is the land of the Kodiak, and people are going to learn that soon, one way or another. You can run your mouth all you like, but it's going to be you and me in a ring, soon, and you won't be able to talk yourself out of anything. You're going to have to fight, and I welcome your fight, and the best you've got. You'll need it.</p><p> </p><p>

And if you need a little more proof, well, in about fifteen minutes or so I'm going to be stepping into the ring with a very dangerous man named Antone Benner. I am going to fight him. I am going to show you, and him, and everyone watching why I am a man to be feared. That I am one of the strongest men in GCW, and in wrestling, and I am going to show you, Abruzzi, exactly what's going to happen when I get my hands on you. I hope you enjoy the show. It'll be a whole lot less fun when you're on the receiving end." (73)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="IsrYUpm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IsrYUpm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="dXz4ADg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dXz4ADg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="ckPwwbs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ckPwwbs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="kzUgGEh.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kzUgGEh.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Black Hat Rodeo (Olivares and Marshall) vs Osburn and Wells</strong></p><p>

Thinking that Osburn and Wells, as two technically savvy and slightly undersized faces, might have a future. Then again, one’s trending up and the other is treading water, so who knows. If nothing else, they make a solid duo and don't have bad chemistry, and so far barring the Dregs, that's all I've really been able to find as of yet. A decent but underwhelming match, your very standard big hoss vs technical babyfaces kind of battle, with Olivares and Marshall trying to bully them around. They're at least staying consistent as a duo, never going to blow the doors off but working nicely as an anchor for the rest of the tag division, and I can respect that. Still in a bit of a skid, though, they seemed mentally thrown off by losing the belts, and Wells and Osburn had plenty of fire. This time, it ended when Wells got the Neckbreaker on Marshall in 11:49. (47)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="hVux6ns.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hVux6ns.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Poseidon was backstage, with Benner lurking in the shadows around him.</p><p> </p><p>

"When you are the Champion, when you are the King, they come out of the woodwork to challenge you, don't they? To demand your attention. To demand a shot at the crown. Well, that suits me just fine. One doesn't become a King without winning, without earning it, without fighting for it. Without steeping yourself in blood. You have to climb a mountain of bodies to make yourself the champion, and oh, how I have climbed these past years.</p><p> </p><p>

Dustin. Dustin Robinson. The proud flag bearer. Yes, you want to be the man in GCW, but you were just another body on my path to the top. A particularly important one, the one who had been holding my crown up, but just a man, all the same. I defeated you. I broke you. And I will do it again. You can consider yourself a challenge, and yes, you have beaten strong men before, and since. But I am nothing like Marcus Kramer, or Dale Whitlock, or any of the others, and when you come for me, yes, you will feel like you are Walking Through Fire, but you will burn. One of us will survive, and one of us will be cinders, and I can assure you, it will not be the King of the Seas."</p><p> </p><p>

Antone stepped in, holding up the mooring line, which he draped around Poseidon’s shoulders almost like a wreath. “But this time, when you face me, it’s on my terms. In my match. I’ve beaten you once before, and if I’m going to give you a second chance at this title? I get to stack the odds. So we are going to face in something new, Dustin. A Mooring Line match. Tied together, my wrist to yours, by this big, heavy rope.” He smiled wider. “I’ve been on the seas, Dustin. I’ve handled these things all my life, I know the burn and the sting of the hemp raking through your palm, lashing against your spine. And I’m going to introduce you to that exquisite pain. To the salt of the sea, to the misery of exhaustion. You’re going to be in my world, now, and I guarantee you, you may never see the light of day again.” (82)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="o1IvcFt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/o1IvcFt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="voovRf5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/voovRf5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Antone Benner vs Jack Raiden</strong></p><p>

Now that’s a goddamn match. I was a little leery that Benner might not quite be at main event positioning, but the combination of his heel turn, pairing with Poseidon, and feud with Wolf seems to be catching on, and Raiden is bullet proof. Raiden stormed in to fight him swinging, while Antone was content to stick and weave, duck around him, take pot shots, and generally try to make him tire himself out. Raiden looked like a beast, slamming him around the ring when he could actually get his hands on him, but Benner was happy to roll out of the ring, slip away every chance he could get, and generally make a nuisance of himself. It was a lengthy battle and Antone actually came out on top, raking Raiden's eyes when he was up for the powerbomb, rolling out of it and rolling Raiden up - with his feet on the second rope, no less - at 14:29 to steal the win. (62)</p><p> </p><p>

Probably the best show we’ve had in my tenure, and if I needed any more confidence in my young guys, I have it in spades. Scorpio, Wells, Abruzzi, Benner, and Raiden all turned it up in a big way. With the likes of Osburn and Poseidon to act as an anchor in the mean time, we have a future. (63) It brought with it a strong showing of .35 and 266k viewers.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Man, what a main event. Good to see some matches that are (almost) as good as your promos now. Also nice to see you're building up some names in your company.

Predictions:

Preshow: Stevens & Whisenant def. Danger & Sandy

Honestly, I don't really know, but Stevens seems to be the guy with the most potential right now, so I'll give his team the win.

Preshow: Derby & Mitchell def. St. Croix & Slay

Still not really sure, but I think this team has won matches while the other two haven't.

Preshow: Scorpio Nations def. Mo Ponder

Haven't seen Mo in a while. Scorpio is a future guy in the company though while Mo doesn't seem to be.

Josilyn Darville def. Trinity Branch

Pretty sure Darville has more wins so far.

The Dregs def. Sills & Redcloud

Nicely establish The Dregs a bit more before they challenge for the tag team titles. Scorpio & Kramer interference maybe.

Black Hat Rodeo def. Brownfield & Durant

Good as Brownfield and Durant are, I think it's a safer bet to go with the established team.

Wolf Koizol def. Mean Machine

I like Machine, but he's definitely not beating Koizol.

Dustin Robinson def. Antone Benner

As good as Benner is doing with his new push, Dustin losing here just wouldn't make sense, particularly considering he is set to challenge for the World title sooner.

(P) Stevens and Whisenant vs Danger and Sandy

No idea to be honest, Danger and Sandy looks to have more potential as team with them tagging at least twice earlier while Stevens likely have most potential as singles guy... thinking I go with more potential tag team here considering you have talked a lot how you need more teams.

(P) St. Croix and Slay vs Derby and Mitchell

Thinking Derby is the top women here so going with her.

(P) Scorpio Nations vs Mo Ponder

Not much question here, Mo is pretty much jobber and one who isn´t seen that often even on that role

Josilyn Darville vs Trinity Branch

Pretty sure there two are on the opposite ends of the ladders.

The Dregs vs Sills and Redcloud

Actual team over random pairing.

Black Hat Rodeo vs Brownfield and Durant

Same logic than previous match except I´m bit more sure on this than the last one, actual team goes over.

Mean Machine vs Wolf Koziol

Machine looks to be decent name but surely he´s not going over Wolf?

Antone Benner vs Dustin Robinson

OK, so Benner surprised me once, now he has to do it again since I´m not picking him over Robinson.

<p><strong>February 5th, 1986</strong></p><p><strong>

Milford Ice Pavilion, 966 in attendance</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Good news had come across my desk in the form of Poseidon's medical report - he was showing no more damage to his ribs. That was a definite step in the right direction. I hadn't really felt the need to put him in matches on TV anyway, but still, it was a good thing, and he'd be able to wrestle at full-strength at Walk Through Fire. That was the important thing.</p><p> </p><p>

Which meant, almost naturally, that I was due some bad news, too. Cue my phone ringing.</p><p> </p><p>

"Yes, this is Alexander Allred," I said as I picked up the phone.</p><p> </p><p>

"Mr. Allred? It's me, Antone." He sounded different off the stage, too, his Mississippi accent a little thicker and twangier. "I gotta talk to ya."</p><p> </p><p>

Was he leaving? Was he sick? Was he unwilling to put someone over? It seemed like whenever someone came out of their way to talk to me, it was for some kind of annoying reason, so I ran a hand through my hair and nodded. "Yes,, of course. What's going on, Antone?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Well, I got a call, actually, from Talent Relations over at WWB."</p><p> </p><p>

My heart sank.</p><p> </p><p>

"Did you, now?"</p><p> </p><p>

"They wanted to sign me to a written deal," he said. "Monthly pay. Exclusive. Look, I love working here for you guys, you've been good to me, and I love what we've been doin', so I don't wanna leave if I don't gotta. But you know that I can't turn down an offer like that." He let it hang there for a moment. "Unless you can match it."</p><p> </p><p>

"How much?" I asked. And then I shook my head. "No, look, just send me over the contract and we'll make you a fair deal. I want you here, Antone."</p><p> </p><p>

"I know, sir," he said. "And I want to be here. I just gotta do the, y'know, fiskly smart thing."</p><p> </p><p>

And because we were in the middle of favorable contract negotiations, I wouldn't point out the butchering of that word. "Of course. I completely understand, and we'll do all we can to keep you. Thank you for letting me know."</p><p> </p><p>

"Absolutely. I'll fax my copy right over."</p><p> </p><p>

I hoped it wasn't too much money. And I hoped that it wouldn't be the start of too much more. We had a lot of guys working on open deals, handshake deals, just for money reasons. Why lock someone down when they could get exposure and polish elsewhere? But the answer was obvious. Because WWB would try and lock them down in turn. ASW wasn't quite that aggressive, yes, and Darrell and Adonis were proof of that, but I didn't know how long that would take, either.</p><p> </p><p>

We could spin Antone. We had MJ on a written deal to get him away from WWB, and Jack Raiden was on lock down, and a few others. But we weren't making quite the money I'd need to justify locking up too many more, not unless things turned around fast. I was just hoping I could stay ahead of that train.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – Stevens and Whisenant vs The Danger Boys (Bret Danger and Auston Sandy)</strong></p><p>

Just trying out more tag team combinations. Whisenant has been getting some murmurs from Izaiah and Joel, but I sure don’t see it - and his name is still Keaton Whisenant. I don't know that half our ring announcers can even pronounce that. Danger and Sandy, meanwhile, aren't blowing me away, but are definitely convincing me to keep them on the roster. And Stevens, Stevens I might be able to work with - once I figure out where he fits on the card. Stevens with the running knee in 5:37. (29)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="A4sP4BO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/A4sP4BO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="kpd6oRw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kpd6oRw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="IPc6bJ3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IPc6bJ3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="jzEmeMl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jzEmeMl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – St. Croix and Slay vs Derby and Mitchell</strong></p><p>

And likewise, testing out combinations and talents. Lilyanna looks head and shoulders above most of our women’s roster, but Bertha is a nice southern hoss herself. Derby got the win with a thrust kick in 8:08. (38)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="jfYdvJY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jfYdvJY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="fZeFiXB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fZeFiXB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pre-Show – Scorpio Nations vs Mo Ponder</strong></p><p>

Oh hey, Ponder is still employed. He's not even that old, but there's just nothing about him that inspires me in any way, so on the bench he remains. Scorpio dominated him, as it should be. Scorpion Clutch in 5:52. (32)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="9BZcCjK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9BZcCjK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="6Vj8zZx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6Vj8zZx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Josilyn Darville vs Trinity Branch</strong></p><p>

A slightly rougher outing from Josilyn, who might be in danger losing her spot as top heel. Then again, maybe Trinity is just that rough around the edges. We'd have to see what happened at Walk Through Fire. For now, at least, she dominated Trinity nicely, pummeling her with strikes. Josilyn won with her savate kick in 7:34. (39)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="spCwuOE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/spCwuOE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Lily-Rose Criss was backstage for an interview.</p><p> </p><p>

"I get the feeling that Josilyn is trying to scare me. Well, honey, I think you're going to be disappointed. I've spent my life with people trying to write me off, especially in wrestling. That I'm just some pretty face, that I'm just some lady they can look past. Well, let me assure you, that is not the case." She ran a hand over the Women's Championship. "I won this title fair and square. I beat three women on my way to gold, including you, Josilyn. And I will do it again. I am faster than you, I am more agile than you, more skilled than you. You can throw all the fire and venom my way you'd like, but it's going to take more than that, and I'm not just some rookie you can stomp. You can't handle what I can do. That's a promise." (39)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="pnglGLe.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pnglGLe.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="y50iMUn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/y50iMUn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="iEVlPgG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iEVlPgG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="s4EVIsf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/s4EVIsf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Dregs vs Sills and Redcloud</strong></p><p>

While Sills and Redcloud both looked fired up and ready to go coming into the match, it was clear they weren't entirely on the same page like the Dregs. Redcloud, in his inexperience, missed a tag from Boston, making it easy for Pilcher and O'Toole to pick the scraps. They were perfect hyenas as usual, relentless and vicious and taking advantage of every mistake, and Pilcher got the pin in 10:04 with the spinebuster. (35)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Black Hat Rodeo (Whitlock and Bragg) vs Brownfield and Durant</strong></p><p>

A tune-up match for the Black Hats ahead of Walk Through the Fire, and a nice test for Tarzan and Sebastien. They looked alright, with Tarzan being the undersized, flashy partner that sold for most of Whitlock and Bragg's brutal offense, while Durant came in on an attempted hot tag. He looked good, throwing chops and meeting both of the cowboys in size, but both him and Brownfield were too inexperienced and couldn't overcome the seasoned brawlers. Bragg ended up in the ring with Tarzan, and put him out with the Sidewinder Choke in 9:02. (51)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="2GSvv3o.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2GSvv3o.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Billy Ray Bragg came backstage for an interview following his match, tucking a wad of tobacco back into his lip.</p><p> </p><p>

"So, you boys want a shot at the Champ, huh? Well, the Black Hat Rodeo don't run from no fights, and I ain't about to start runnin' now. Carver, Osburn, you want me and Dale Whitlock, then you just come and get us. I'm a champion, and that means I need me a challenger, and since I'm done with Wells, I guess it's your turn, Osburn. Just try to give me a real fight, because these boys today? They weren't up to snuff." He spit off camera. "And I hate bein' bored. Guess once I whoop ya, we can start referring to me as the one true technician in this company, because I'm gonna grab you by the neck and put you to sleep." (60)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="cAnfqvK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cAnfqvK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="o1IvcFt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/o1IvcFt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Wolf was getting jazzed up for his match again, doing some warm up exercises and slapping his face to get his blood pumping. As he was, though, Antone Benner leapt on him from behind, blasting him in the back of the head and raining down punches on him. As he straddled a dazed Wolf, he actually pulled out a pair of scissors and cut off a chunk of his long hair, holding it up for the camera before cackling and running off. (47)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="iPMwsYN.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iPMwsYN.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="cAnfqvK.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cAnfqvK.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Mean Machine vs Wolf Koziol</strong></p><p>

Mean Machine made his way down to the ring first, and this time, he wasn’t the angriest man in the ring. Wolf was a man possessed, storming out and seeing red, and absolutely brutalized him. Machine put up some resistance, catching him with a shot to the knee that turned into some good offense, but he missed the Axe Bomber and turned around into a big scoop slam, a running knee drop, and then we he staggered to his feet, the lariat in 7:53 for the pin. (55)</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="o1IvcFt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/o1IvcFt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="8fvyQD4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/8fvyQD4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Antone Benner vs Dustin Robinson</strong></p><p>

A nice battle between Dustin and Poseidon’s apprentice ahead of their title match. Benner looked vicious, taking an early advantage and running circles around Dustin. Experience started to win out over youth, though, with Dustin weathering the storm and fighting back nicely, landing solid shots whenever he got the opportunity. Still, Benner would rake the eyes, or hit him with a big knee, and daze him long enough to seem like he might get the edge. In the end, Wolf popped up on the entrance way, running down to start banging on the apron, and this distracted Dustin long enough to get powerslammed, and then eat the Slingshot Suplex for the pin at 10:01 (54)</p><p> </p><p>

Not as good of a show as last week, but still not too bad. It should be noticed that Dustin isn't exactly setting the world on fire at the moment, and while he's still a very competent wrestler, it's perhaps time perhaps for him to ride off into the sunset. (53) We got a .32 and a 246k viewership.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Funnily enough, I was thinking of ways to change up Antone's presentation now that he's sliding into Poseidon's circle right about here. Of course, that will rely on him signing with us...</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

And it's definitely a thrill to see some of those match ratings go up. I don't know why, but I always get better promo ratings in TEW20 than matches. Maybe that's just the Silver Age product style? Or maybe I just have a soft-spot for promo guys. Who knows? If nothing else, Raiden, Benner, Abruzzi, and Poseidon are all stepping up big in-ring and that's not a bad assortment to build around while the others start rising.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

<p>Whelp, looks like the big boys are starting to come knocking. I do hope you manage to keep Benner around as he's been building up very well so far. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">GCW Walk Through Fire Predictions:</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Preshow: <strong>Sunset Army</strong> def. The Danger Boys</p><p>

<em>While the Sunset Army never managed to take off like you'd hoped, I feel like they're still that bit above The Danger Boys pairing who really haven't done much.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Preshow: <strong>Madalene DeGeorge</strong> def. Rosemary Pfeiffer</p><p>

<em>Pretty sure Madalene has had a better run so far.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Preshow: <strong>Giant Kajitani</strong> def. Danjou Nakasawa</p><p>

<em>I feel like since Kajitani has so few losses and Nakasawa is debuting on the pre-show, Kajitani is likely to win here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Preshow: <strong>Brownfield, Redcloud & Banner</strong> def. Carleton & Heavenly Bodies</p><p>

<em>Never bet against Big Hank.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Scorpio Nations</strong> def. Kurt Grey</p><p>

<em>Scorpio is on his way up, whereas Kurt gets tired walking to ring apparently, so yeah, definitely a win for Scorpio. </em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sebastien Durant</strong> def. Mean Machine</p><p>

<em>If I remember correctly Durant is suppose to be someone with a good future in the company, while Mean Machine seems to have hit his spot as a consistent lower midcard guy.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Gwinn Brothers</strong> def. The Dregs to retain the GCW Tag Team Championship</p><p>

<em>The face side of your tag team division is not strong enough really to have a heel champion. I also don't believe The Dregs are at a high enough level to carry the belts, add this to Gwinn Brothers still being in the early days of their reign and yeah, Gwinn Brothers win.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Lily-Rose Criss</strong> def. Josilyn Darville to retain the GCW Women's Championship</p><p>

<em>I can't see you taking the belt off Criss this early, particularly not to give it to Darville who she beat for the belt.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Carver Wells</strong> def. Dale Whitlock</p><p>

<em>A bit of a gamble here, but with Dale is his twilight years and Wells slowly making his way toward the top of the card, I think Dale takes the loss to help build Carver up</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy Ray Bragg</strong> def. Ryan Osburn to retain the GCW North American Championship</p><p>

<em>I just can't see Ryan being the one to take the belt of Billy Ray, particularly not this early into his reign.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Wolf Koizol</strong> def. Antone Benner</p><p>

<em>This is 50/50 for me, but I think Wolf wins to allow him one last go at Poseidon.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>MJ Abruzzi</strong> def. Jack Raiden</p><p>

<em>I think Abruzzi wins by some nefarious means here to keep Kodiak Jack distracted from the GCW Championship a bit longer.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Poseidon</strong> def. Dustin Robinson in a Mooring Line Match to retain the GCW Heavyweight Championship</p><p>

<em>We've likely seen Dustin's final reign as champion and I definitely don't think he'll be winning his belt back from Poseidon. Whether or not this match includes a new member to Poseidon's crew is the question that intrigues me more.</em></p>

(P) Sunset Army vs Danger and Sandy

Sunset Army got buried pretty hard and you did say you were disappointed on their popularity gains so perhaps they are relegated to jobber position? I honestly could see this one going either way depending on your plans with the Army but I actually pick against them until I see what direction you plan to take them.

(P) Madalene DeGeorge vs Rosemary Pfeiffer

DeGeorge looks to be one of your bigger names on women division so going to go with her.

(P) Giant Kajitani vs Danjou Nakasawa

Same deal than with rest of the Army, this match is telling lot about the direction they take but after that loss, they have to prove themselves again so I actually could see newcomer getting a win over Kajitani here to establish the newcomer as decent threat.

(P) Carleton and Heavenly Bodies vs Brownfield, Redcloud, and Banner

Faces feel a bit bigger names to me.

Scorpio Nations vs Kurt Grey

I don´t really expect Grey to win against anyone who ain´t jobber at this point and Nations certainly aren´t.

Mean Machine vs Sebastien Durant

Could see this one going either way but I believve Machine is the one who have had more time in actual shows lately so I go with him.

The Dregs vs The Gwinn Brothers – GCW Tag Team Championship Match

Josilyn Darville vs Lily-Rose Criss – GCW Women’s Championship Match

No title changes this early

Dale Whitlock vs Carver Wells

Thinking Wells get a big win here.

Ryan Osburn vs Billy Ray Bragg – GCW North American Championship Match

Nope, Osburn ain´t getting the belt here.

Antone Benner vs Wolf Koziol

Third time the charm? Or will Benner surprise me again? I was really thinking on going with Benner but Wolf is gunning for Poseidon so he can´t really affort to drop a match against lackey unless it´s slower build.

MJ Abruzzi vs Jack Raiden

Tough one here.... I actually go with a draw which is probably wrong but I doubt this is one and done deal either way so might as well keep the thing going by keeping both guys strong.

Dustin Robinson vs Poseidon – GCW Heavyweight Championship Match – Mooring Line Match

Robinson ain´t getting the belt back

February 9th, 1986 GCW Walk Through Fire

Alfond Arena, 5126 people

A little while ago, we’d made an agreement with Hyperion to accept their young lions on excursion. The first request came in: a 21-year-old lightweight with bundles of charisma named Danjou Nakasato.

BPTfUM0.jpggyoK4p7.jpg vs BEPw5Df.jpg0WjXhc0.jpg

Pre-Show – Sunset Army vs The Danger Boys (Bret Danger and Auston Sandy)

A return for the Sunset Army, who I’ve been keeping off TV since their thorough defeat to Jack Raiden, which admittedly did them no favors. It feels like enough time has passed, so I might as well get them spun up again. Saying that, this was a test for Bret and Auston, who have been impressing me just a little. Not half bad, and Reijiro played a good manager at ringside. Bret got the win with a bulldog in 6:24. (26)

kMX7dHf.jpg vs X2YF9ch.jpg

Pre-Show - Madalene deGeorge vs Rosemary Pfeiffer

This match arguably could make TV, though not high on the card. Madalene is impressing me - Rosemary less-so - but she’s a very fun high society snob, who puts on a good showing of her opponent being beneath her. This time, that wasn't admittedly far off the mark. She won with a Face Plant in 10:49. (35)

49cSfZg.jpg vs AKyAzld.jpg

Pre-Show – Giant Kajitani vs Danjou Nakasato

Why not try our two Japanese talents together? Danjou looks green so I can see why he’s on excursion, but he bumps nicely, and hell, he's only 21. Kajitani is big and impressive, but has no stamina and hasn’t shown a great deal of improvement. That's a little disappointing, but when he and Grady are my only real monsters, well. I guess I have to work with what I have. He won with the Powerslam in 5:49. (19)

Pre-Show – Carleton and the Heavenly Bodies vs Brownfield, Redcloud, and Banner

A packed Pre-Show for a hopefully big main show. Just a nice showing from some younger talent, who may not all be progressing as quick as some, but are stll developing at least. Honestly, Carleton is looking too good to be jobbing at this point, too, and there feels like a really solid crop of young talent here. Well, and Hank Banner. But he continues to get ring time and I may throw him a bone sooner or later. For the time being, the better team won when Saturn hit a High Knee in 9:31. (31)

jfYdvJY.jpg vs WmhKVM1.jpg

Scorpio Nations vs Kurt Grey

Just a strong showing for Scorpio. This was kind of just set out there as a warm up match for the live show, and to give one of my fastest rising talents - remember, he's not even 25 yet - a stage against one of our veterans who is fastest on the decline. Scorpio is putting on good performance after good performance and I’m really hoping the crowd will start taking notice, soon, because I sure am. Scorpion Clutch for the win in 5:34. (46)

iPMwsYN.jpg vs NxT7xcK.jpg

Mean Machine vs Sebastien Durant

The follow up to Mean Machine’s open challenge that blew up in his face. He came out hot again, trying to barrel over Sebastien as much as he could. It even led to him getting a clear pin off the Axe Bomber but pulling him up at two, because he wanted to do more harm. It didn’t quite pay off, as Sebastien once again weathered the brutal storm, shook off the hurt, and turned the tables on the Machine, nailing him with the Fallaway Slam this time at 7:17 for the clean win, and leaving him to throw a tantrum in the ring as Sebastien cleared out. (37)

pnglGLe.jpgy50iMUn.jpg vs EBceTSA.jpggoNQMMY.jpg

The Dregs vs the Gwinn Brothers – GCW Tag Team Championship Match

While their theatricality is nice and their chemistry is undeniable, It may have been too early for the Dregs, as they looked a little outclassed against the Gwinns – and dragged down the match in the process. Still, they’ve improved more than some I could name, and hung in there okay. This was more of a show off for the Gwinns anyway, as they used superior athleticism and experience to work around the Dregs' shenanigans, neutralizing their dirty tricks and just generally being a superior team. Darrell got the pin in 9:47 with the High Knee for their second successful defense. (39)

Here we announced the Prince of Wrestling tournament, to take place with opening round matches on Combat Television over the next month, and the tournament winner crowned at our Gold Rush show next month on March 9th.

9BZcCjK.jpg vs spCwuOE.jpg

Josilyn Darville vs Lily-Rose Criss – GCW Women’s Championship Match

A hair better than their previous encounter, but still a bit disappointing considering how well these two showed up with lower opponents. Ah, well. Guess you can't win them all. Josilyn was even more aggressive this time, but it seemed to have a detrimental effect, as Lily-Rose ducked and weaved around her and was able to discombobulate her with arm drags, leg picks, whips off the ropes and into the corner, and other lightning quick misdirection. It did the job nicely, exhausting and frustrating the vicious kickboxer, so that Lily-Rose retained in 15:27 with her crossbody. (45)

gFw14NW.jpg

We went to an interview with MJ Abruzzi, who was in his private locker room, getting a massage from a young, pretty, nameless woman and drinking a glass of champagne as he relaxed.

"Aaah, this is the life. The star treatment. You see, this is what I live for. This is what being the Godfather is about, you understand? I do this to live the big life, the high life. That means I have to be the best. In the ring, and out of it. I call my shot, I make things happen, and brother, when the chips are down, I gotta hurt people. You don't get called the Godfather without breaking a few eggs, legs, and noses, capisce? And Jack, you're just the next chump on the chopping block. I hope you realize, it ain't nothin' personal. It's just business." (62)

UlFY9aV.jpg vs ckPwwbs.jpg

Dale Whitlock vs Carver Wells

Well, this was not the coming out party for Carver I was hoping for. I’m not sure who to blame here, honestly, as they both looked completely mismatched and on entirely different pages. That almost speaks more to Dale, who is supposed to be the veteran with another decade of experience, but considering I wanted this to be a big moment for Carver to step forward, I'm kind of let down. Oh well. It was a slog of a match with little flow, just striking and brawling that left the crowd bored, built around Carver using his explosive energy and movement to stay ahead - not unlike Lily-Rose in the previous match, so maybe that didn't help. Either way, here, like before, the faster wrestler was the victor. Carver got the win in 12:13 with the Neckbreaker. (34)

kzUgGEh.jpg vs 2GSvv3o.jpg

Ryan Osburn vs Billy Ray Bragg – GCW North American Championship Match

Now this is more like it. He might be 37, but Osburn still has plenty left to offer and he looked damn good. I have perhaps been underestimating and underutilizing him as more of a gatekeeper to the stars roll - but then, youth movement, and all that. Still, perhaps I should give him more momentum here and there, because he's earned his keep in spades. And, most importantly, he made Billy Ray look damn good, as he out-grappled and out-muscled the technician en route to a Sidewinder Choke in 9:56 to retain. (55)

cAnfqvK.jpg

Backstage, we found Wolf Koziol who was once again pacing the halls, shaking out his limbs, pulling at his hair, and generally looking like he was on the verge of exploding.

"Okay, okay, okay, you want a couple words? I've got some words for you. Antone? You're dead. You're dead! Dead. Meat. Not only do you embarrass me, not only do you mock me, not only do you cost me my title shot at Poseidon, drag me into this crazy mess, you keep ambushing me. Attacking me, like a coward. Like a punk. And then you cut my hair? My hair? Who does that? What kind of sick, cowardly psycho does that to a man?

I hope you're ready. I really hope you're ready, because you have a whole world of hurt coming your way, my man, you got that? At first, I was just going to beat you, but now? Now I'm going to put you in the ground. Six feet deep, my man, six feet!" (70)

o1IvcFt.jpg vs cAnfqvK.jpg

Antone Benner vs Wolf Koziol

And again, disappointment. Not as much as with Carver and Whitlock, who just dropped the ball and looked lost, but after building up this feud, Koziol and Benner looked like they weren’t well-suited to one another, as Antone's slithering, attack of opportunity heel style didn't really jell with Wolf's, let's say, unbreakable resolve. Or, what some could call, an inability to sell worth a damn. A shame, since this was only supposed to be part one of the series. They spent the hole match with Antone stalling, ducking out of the way, slithering through the ropes and under the ring and attacking Wolf with running shots and chop blocks and the like while his back was turned, and generally trying to avoid his assault. It would have been more impactful if Wolf had looked hurt or dazed by it, but alas. In the end, driven by this constant evasion and cowardice, Koziol was driven into a berserk rage and ended up getting DQed for going too wild and ignoring the referee’s count, pummeling and abusing Antone in the corner far past a five count. (51)

hVux6ns.jpg

We went next to Poseidon lurking in the darkness, alone this time.

"I can always feel it, on days like today. The singing of my blood. The knowledge that this is going to be a good day, a day of war, of conquest, of pure, sweet victory. I can feel it. Can't you, Dustin? Can't you feel the fear, building up inside of you? The fear that threatens to swallow you whole? It's going to choke you. It's going to make you drown, if you let it, that fear. I hope you do. I look so forward to seeing it happen." He held up his old reliable mooring line, the heavy rope already tied around his wrist. "You see this? I'm going to use it to drag you down with me. To show you just what fear can feel like. I'm going to show you true darkness.

I want you to know something, Dustin. Nine. That's the number of men I've put down in the ground. Nine straight victories. Nine straight conquests. No one has been able to touch me. No one has been able to stop me. And they won't. Nine wins, no losses, and that makes me the best in the company. You see? I am the King of the Sea. I am the King of GCW. They can anoint a Prince of Wrestling, they can send whatever pretenders they like my way, whatever challengers, what ever fools want a shot at me. It doesn't matter. I am Poseidon. The seas are at my command, and whoever wants to take this title is going to have to fight all the fury of dark, merciless nature, and drown in the process." (82)

gFw14NW.jpg vs voovRf5.jpg

MJ Abruzzi vs Jack Raiden

A very good match and hopefully only a teaser of things to come. For all his talking in the lead up, Abruzzi gave Jack Raiden a wide berth at the start, begging off from two early tests of strength that he clearly knew he was going to lose - what with giving up four inches and probably 50 lbs to the Kodiak. The third time, he kicked Raiden low and started working him over early, at first cranking the neck and working over his head to daze him, before switching to nasty leg breakers and the like. Raiden was too strong to be pinned down, though, and battled back admirably, taking Abruzzi to the mat with slams and clotheslines, and throwing him out of the ring completely at one point to leave him sprawling. Abruzzi milked the ten count before dashing back in to blast him with a basement dropkick, once again trying to take him apart. It started to pile on, and the first time Jack got him up for the powerbomb, his knee buckled, forcing him to drop out of the move. Abruzzi pounced, locking in the Italian Deathlock, but Raiden reached the ropes thanks to his big arms, forcing a break - that Abruzzi, again, milked. He tried another powerbomb and this time hit it, but was too exhausted and too hurt to roll over into the pin, giving Abruzzi time to recover. When he went for a third, he was hit by deja vu - the eyerake, the roll out of it, the foot on the ropes. In a dark irony, after promising in his match with Benner that Abruzzi would see just what would happen in their match, he was proven right: as Abruzzi stole the pin at 19:55 with his feet up, and slipped out of the ring before Raiden had time to react. (60)

8fvyQD4.jpg vs hVux6ns.jpg

Dustin Robinson vs Poseidon – GCW Heavyweight Championship Match – Mooring Line Match

Another of Poseidon’s brutal showings, and another reminder that he’s the top star in the company. I had a feeling Dustin would drag him down a bit after the last few outings, but my fears were perhaps misplaced, as he stepped up when I needed him to. They were lashed together by the mooring line and it didn't impede things too much in the ring. The rules of the Mooring Line match were more just a brutal fight while tied together, not like the other kind of strap match with corner touches. It made for a more dynamic feel, and Poseidon used the rope to his advantage, throwing Dustin around, constantly dragging him in to batter him with knee strikes and clubbing forearms. Of course, it turned on him, too. When Dustin started to fire up, Poseidon wasn't able to slip away, pulled back in and battered by rights and lefts and stomps in the corner. It wasn't until Poseidon tripped him on the rope that he got the advance again, and he started choking Dustin with the rope, too, as the referee tried to pull him off. It took the wind out of Dustin badly, and Poseidon was able to reel him in for the knee face crusher at 10:09 to defend his title, and go 10-0 in my time in the company. (59)

Another very solid card, with two excellent matches to close out on. Some disappointments, but nothing that dragged down the whole affair, so that’s a relief. I see big things in the future. (61)

I have to say, I really enjoyed that show. Good to see the likes of Carleton and Osburn is stepping up as well.

Predictions:

Preshow: Violet Bee def. Lilyanna Derby

Bee is still undefeated in her time at GCW whereas Derby has lost a few matches now, so I'd say Bee gets another win here.

Preshow: Lash & the Heavenly Bodies def. Grey, Danger & Sandy

I never pick Grey to win I don't think and I'm not about to start now.

Preshow: Sebastien Durant def. Umari

I feel like Umari is likely going to be jobbing out for a while, while Durant is having a decent run at his spot.

Scorpio Nations def. Layton White to advance in the Prince of Wrestling Tournament

Layton White - Jobber for Life

Black Hat Rodeo (Olivares & Marshall) def. Man Mountains

Unless Man Mountains start impressing, I can't see them getting a win for quite a while.

Mean Machine def. Aaron Redcloud to advance in the Prince of Wrestling Tournament

I'm taking a bit of a gamble right now, but I don't think Aaron is high enough on the card to win this match. I could be wrong (and definitely am if the winner of the two matches tonight face off) but I'm calling Mean Machine to advance.

Antone Benner def. Carver Wells

Wells has been going well, slowly moving his way up the card, but Benner right up the top at this point and I think he'll be taking home a win.
