PRIDE FC: Never dies!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello friends, I'm returning with a PRIDE FC dynasty, which for me, was the biggest MMA event of all time.

The idea is to continue PRIDE where it left off, I would continue Maxicheezestick's story, in PRIDE NEVER DIE mode, but every time I loaded the game it would cause conflicts, so I will use OldSchoolMMA 2007.

The story will be centered on the PRIDE events, but we will have updates from other events with results and the most important news will be given before the relevance of the fighter and event.

I hope you follow, participate and if you have suggestions leave your comments here on the page or inbox.

NEGOTIATION BETWEEN PRIDE AND UFC BRAKE

<img src=https://cdn.mmaweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Nobuyuki-Sakakibara-Press032707-750.jpg>

March 27, 2007 in Tokyo, Japan

Despite the big events, the continuity of the tournaments and the first events outside Japan, 2006 had a bitter taste for PRIDE. On November 29, 2006, Pride announced the discontinuation of its Bushido events, with the intention of integrating the matches from lighter weight classes, mainly featured in Bushido, into regular Pride events. Pride also announced that future Grand Prix tournaments would take place on a four-year weight class cycle, with one Grand Prix per year. The first expected one, a lightweight Grand Prix, ended up being cancelled. The loss of the contract with FUJI TV decreased and the organization's revenue A LOT. Nobuyuki Sakakibara found himself under pressure to act and quickly. In early 2007, Sakakibara told Japanese media that the executive of Zuffa LLC, then owner of the UFC, Lorenzo Fertitta offered to acquire the shares of PRIDE FC from DSE for a speculated amount of $ 65 million.

This would mean that the entire file of fights, fighter contracts, advertising contracts and brand management would be in charge of Zuffa. PRIDE Worldwide Holdings LLC was created and Zuffa's intention was to maintain the organization's agenda and hold events in Japan, managing PRIDE apart from other organizations in Zuffa's custody: the UFC and the WEC. Fertitta was in favor of crossover events (UFC / WEC vs. PRIDE) and that encouraged the fighters of both organizations, as the biggest fights could come out of this agreement and everything was heading for the biggest announcement in MMA history.

And the meeting between the "big bosses" of the largest organizations was scheduled for March 27, 2007. The meeting at the headquarters of DSE, which controlled PRIDE, was marked by the expectation under the sale of PRIDE. Sure sources from people who were at the meeting said the meeting was going well until UFC President Dana White considered ending PRIDE activities.

Dana White: Sakakibara, let's be honest here, you are without big stars, most are already coming to the UFC.

Sakakibara then replied:

Mr. White, with all due respect, we started after the UFC and produced many of these talents and we can do it again.

Dana White: Look, you have no TV deals, which is a big recipe, mafia stories in the organization and your exclusive contracts with the fighters are all expired ... Look at that, you don't even have fighters for the next card in a month ...

Sakakibara: We already have all the deals for the next card and it will happen, now let's get straight to the point or PRIDE continues with ZUFFA in charge or let us move on ...

At this point, the source said that Dana White was revolted by the attitude of the PRIDE commander and said:

Dana White: We are offering you an excellent value for this collapsing business, but if this is your position we are out! And we will only wait for you to collapse and we will complicate your trip to the USA.

At this point Dana White and the UFC representatives left the meeting room for Las Vegas.

Days later at the UFC 69 post-fight press conference, Dana White spoke to the media about the issue.

"Look, we tried to close an agreement with PRIDE, this agreement provided for a cross-promotion between UFC and PRIDE fighters, but the Japanese are complicated to negotiate."

Asked about the possibility that there is still hope for a future agreement Dana was blunt.

"We made an excellent proposal for them. Look at our squad the biggest names of them are now here. At the end of the month Mirko Crocop will fight here in the UFC and they are announcing Fujita vs. Monson, which we have released to fight for them, because they are without fighters. "

And he added:

"They had their chance, now we will wait because soon we will be watching PRIDE collapse."

SAKAKIBARA SAYS: "PRIDE NEVER DIE!"

<img src=https://u.mmarocks.pl/2014/12/Nobuyuki-Sakakibara.jpg>

Each year the UFC moves towards becoming the largest MMA organization today. After the explosion of success that Ultimate Fighter carried out the organization based in Las Vegas, it seems to be the most attractive way for the big stars of the sport. The UFC tried another big step towards the top with the attempt to buy PRIDE FC. The Japanese organization is in a crisis that does not seem to end, with debts, without television receipts and without the big stars of another time.

The possibility of Americans buying the Japanese event failed after Dana White stated that they would close the doors of PRIDE, as they were without agreements with televisions and fighters. With that, ZUFFA would have to start basically from scratch.

Shortly after the PRIDE 34 event, PRIDE President Nobuyuki Sakakibara made some statements to Japanese media about the deal not being finalized and the future of PRIDE.

Failure in negotiations with ZUFFA

Sakakiraba: "It was simple they just wanted to pay to be with the few fighters that still remained and to be with the fight library. We wanted a partnership so that all of this would not end."

PRIDE situation

Sakakibara: "Honestly, we are in a financially difficult situation because we are without major revenues, only the box office does not pay the big names, and unfortunately they are leaving and we had to release all the fighters who still had exclusive deals."

Will we have more events or will it be the end of PRIDE?

Sakakibara: "PRIDE will never die! We will look for some fighters that we had to release looking for a new deal, make other deals for broadcast and soon we will have good news for the fans"

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/ddDUreN.png>

by Sean Smith, 8 June 2007

In an announcement made today at the headquarters of NHK, the largest television network in Japan, the agreement with PRIDE FC was confirmed. In an agreement that initially provides for the transmission of 14 events that will be broadcast on NHK G. The agreement is valid for up to 4 years, showing that PRIDE really returns with maximum force and as confirmed by Nobuyuki Sakakibara, president of PRIDE.

"This is the agreement that we are looking for and now we certainly return with strength in the market. We have this agreement with 14 events to be transmitted with NHK and we have other plans that will soon be announced, as we are close to more important agreements for PRIDE and for MMA in the world. "

Sakakibara finished by airing, that in addition to the television deal, another big announcement will be released next week. Japanese media sources point to an announcement of a Grand Prix, in an undisclosed division or even to a reality show, along the lines of the UFC's success, The Ultimate Fighter.

PRIDE ANNOUNCES SIGNINGS INCLUDING TAKANORI GOMI, JOSH BARNETT, SHINYA AOKI AND OTHER 9 FIGHTERS

<img src=https://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/472/219/TakanoriGomi_original.jpg?1288246041>

by Sean Smith, 9 June 2007

PRIDE FC has been making big moves lately.

On Friday, the organization sent out a press release to announce that it had hired again, the only Lightweight champion in its history, Takanori Gomi (27-3-1 NC, 13-1-1 NC PRIDE). This lightweight signature joins several other high profile recent acquisitions from the Japan-based organization. Blurcat.com reported that several other big names have returned to PRIDE and joined the ranks, including heavyweights Josh Barnett (23- 5, 5-4 in PRIDE), Gilbert Yvel (31-12-1-1 NC, 2-7-1 NC in PRIDE), Kazuyuki Fujita (14-6, 7-4 in PRIDE) and Sergei Kharitonov (15- 4, 8-3; Welterweights Yoshihiro Akiyama (9-1) and Akihiro Gono (28-12-7, 6-3 in PRIDE; and the lightweights, where he had most acquisitions with: Shinya Aoki (13-2, 4-0 in PRIDE), Chris Horodecki (10-0), Eddie Alvarez (10-1), Milton Vieira (7-5-1, 0-1 in PRIDE) and Mitsuhiro Ishida (14-3-1, 4- 1 in PRIDE).

Gomi was certainly the name most celebrated by PRIDE fans, who underwent a complete overhaul in their activities. It was also noted that most of the fighters who were hired are lightweights, increasing speculation about a Lightweight GP and of course a fight between Gomi and Aoki, which many fans would love to see.

Among these names only Akiyama, Alvarez and Horodecki never stepped on the PRIDE ring. Akiyama, a Korean judoka based in Japan, arrives after a stint at the local PRIDE rival K-1 Hero´s and in his last fight he had a contradictory episode that generated a no-contest in his fight against the PRIDE legend, Kazushi Sakuraba . The other two Alvarez and Horodecki, are two prospects who, after success in the regional circuits, will try their luck in the land of the rising sun.

UFC ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF BROCK LESNAR

<img src=https://cdn.mmanews.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Brock-Lesnar-Dana-White-696x392.jpg>

by Kevin Robinson, 9 June 2007

After months of speculation, the UFC officially announced the signing of Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar, a four-time All-American wrestler and former WWF / WWE, said he was negotiating a deal, speaking with UFC announcer Joe Rogan during Saturday's broadcast at UFC 71. However, the sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas knew little about the speculation of his UFC signing; in addition to showing Lesnar on the arena screens, event participants would never know that he signed with the UFC, until today, when Dana White made the announcement.

The 6-foot, 3 and 265-point fighter will enter the UFC heavyweight ranking.

According to UFC President Dana White, Lesnar could make his debut in the Octagon soon.

"We are looking at a big card, but we are still not sure," White said at a news conference for Lesnar's announcement.

The terms of the contract have not been revealed.

</p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><strong>by Sean Smith, 17 June 2007</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The press conference released by PRIDE last week, left the Japanese media with expectations about the next announcements about what would come next.</p><p> </p><p>

As many of you know, the UFC has been making great strides to consolidate itself as the biggest MMA organization of the moment. The biggest names of PRIDE migrated to America and after losing great stars like: Wanderlei Silva, Mirko Crocop, Dan Henderson, "Minotauro Nogueira", "Shogun" Rua, Quinton Jackson among others, the Japanese event is gradually returning to its course of success.</p><p> </p><p>

In the last few days, PRIDE announced its first hired to resume activities after a three-month break. And today he made big announcements.</p><p> </p><p>

The press conference began with Sakakibara and Takada bringing the PRIDE FC GP belt. Takada made the traditional presentation of the tournament belt and Sakakibara started the announcement:</p><p> </p><p>

Sakakibara: "It is with great pleasure that I announce the return of the PRIDE Grand Prix!" announced Sakakibara which soon continued. "As many of you know, we went through some difficulties and ended up losing champions to an organization that was once a partner, but today it is considered a rival, and now we will return with maximum strength bringing this year two tournaments!"</p><p> </p><p>

Shortly thereafter, Takanori Gomi, who recently signed again with PRIDE and Fedor Emelianenko, another PRIDE legend enters the press conference, joining the table. Sakakibara appreciates the presence of both and announces that PRIDE has signed with Fedor.</p><p> </p><p>

Sakakibara: "Fedor had a lot of proposals on the table, and we showed him a project to restructure the company and Japanese fans also spoke louder in his heart, I'm sure of it." He also completed giving an answer to the UFC. "This is only the first action against the UFC. They wanted Fedor, but a career project and the greatest glory for him has always come before the money."</p><p> </p><p>

Takada took the floor and announced that Gomi and Fedor were there as they would be the main stars of the Lightweights and Heavyweights tournaments. The other participants would be announced at the next PRIDE event.</p><p> </p><p>

Takada: They will be the stars of the tournament and join 15 other great fighters who will compete to find out who will be the greatest Heavyweight and Lightweight in the world! "</p><p> </p><p>

"On July 14th PRIDE will return with its 35th event and in addition to a great show for MMA fans, we will announce all the participants of the GP´s including the fights of the opening round of the tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

After the announcement with the date of the next show, Sakakibara also announced a calendar with the dates of the shows until the end of the year. Traditionally the GP will have three events with Total Elimination (21 Jul), Critical Countdown (20 Oct) and the finals in the Final Conflict (30 Dec).</p><p> </p><p>

"Bushido" events will return with three editions. At first Sakakibara said that the Bushido events will have fights in all divisions of PRIDE, however, it will be an event to reveal possible new talents and rising stars, but there will always be a fight between two great fighters in the main event.</p><p> </p><p>

He also highlighted the edition of PRIDE 39, which will be a commemorative edition of the 10 years of the promotion. And that it will be a mega event in the Saitama Super Arena, with all the possible stars, clearing out fighters that will still be in the company tournaments.</p><p> </p><p>

And at the last moment of the conference Sakakibara summoned Scott Coker, president of Strikeforce, and William Kelly, president of EliteXC, for the last big announcement of the day. The partnership between the three organizations that will make cross-promotions among their fighters. Sakakibara pointed out that it is a strong alliance and that in the future other organizations may join in the future.</p><p> </p><p>

Sakakibara: This is a partnership that will strengthen both promotions, help us with the return to the USA and open a big door for them in Japan. And of course we can make their fighters become big stars here and we are open to more partners around the world. world."</p><p> </p><p>

Sakakibara also mentioned that the partnership between the events made PRIDE quickly return to the USA, where it will host the 38th Japanese franchise event in Las Vegas, Nevada. And he confirmed that this event will be the first with fights between fighters from the three organizations, always under the banner of PRIDE.</p><p> </p><p>

"It will be a PRIDE event, where we will have fighters from Strikeforce and EliteXC. We will marry the best duels with the fighters that are available for the date. But, one thing is certain will be another great event !.</p><p> </p><p>

He concluded by saying that the Shockwave event will also have some Strikeforce and EliteXC fighters, but this time they are going to Japan.</p><p> </p><p>

"At our event at the end of the year, we will bring in some of their fighters to compete with Japanese fans."</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Check the calendar of PRIDE FC events in 2007:</p><p> </p><p>

MMA AROUND THE WORLD - RESULTS

KOTC: Lee vs. Kingsbury - Recap

by Tom Bradburn, 23 June 2007

Held on Saturday night KOTC: Lee vs. Kingsbury brought two fights worth the title as the main attraction of his show.

In the main event of the night, light heavyweight champion James Lee (13-2-1 NC) maintained his title by defeating, until then unbeaten, Kyle Kingsbury (6-1-1 NC). In a fight that started with the challenger dominating the first round with his striking and even opening a cut on the champion, it looked like it would be the end of Lee's reign. But in the second round Lee came back focused on taking the fight to the ground and after getting a takedown, dominated Kingsbury's back and got a rear naked choke and defended his title a second time.

In the co-main event, welterweight champion Aaron Wetherspoon (9-1) faced challenger William Sriyapai (7-4). In a dominant performance Wetherspoon won by unanimous decision (all judges scored 50-45) and made his fourth title defense.

KOTC also distributed awards to the fighters.

Brian Ebersole vs. Ronald Jhun were awarded for the "performance of the night", Chris Brennan submitted Mike Guymon and won the "submission of the night" award and Georgi Kharanyan with a beautiful knee in the clinch, took Thierry Quenneville to knockout and won the "KO of the night".

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/FVwh5dq.jpg>

by Sean Smith, 24 June 2007

The PRIDE’s upcoming event has a finalized card.

PRIDE 35 will be headlined by Middleweights legends battle between Kazushi Sakuraba (21-9-1-2 NC MMA, 18-8-1 PRIDE) and Royce Gracie (13-2-3 MMA, 1-1-1 PRIDE).

The historic 90-minute battle will have its second episode in the event that marks the return after the near end of PRIDE. On that 1st of May in 2000, Kazushi Sakuraba overcame Royce Gracie, after the corner, from the exhausted Brazilian, to throw the towel in a sign of withdrawal. This time the duel will take place under the current rules of PRIDE.

Sakuraba has not had a defeat since 2005, when he was overcome by TKO for Ricardo Arona. Since then he has 4 wins and an NC and in his last fight he overcame the Ukrainian Yurij Kiselov via submission on Hero´s 8.

It will be Sakuraba's fifth fight against a member of the Graice family. He has already overcome: Royler, Royce, Renzo and Ryan.

Royce will seek his personal rematch and regain his family's pride in the face of "The Gracie Hunter". Royce, who has not been competing very often, his appearances are on average one fight a year, he has a poor performance in front of UFC welterweight king Matt Hughes. Gracie was completely dominated by Hughes and was soon released from the UFC.

Another legendary Gracie returns to the PRIDE ring. Renzo Gracie (13-6-1 NC, 3-4-1 PRIDE) will face twice King of Pancrase, Yuki Kondo (46-19-6, 1-6 PRIDE).

Also on main card, PRIDE 2006 Welterweight GP champion Kazuo Misaki (18-8-2 MMA, 4-4 PRIDE) will try to overcome his last setback when he takes on Former UFC Middleweight Champion, Murilo Bustamante (14-6-1 MMA, 4-5 PRIDE).

A rematch 205-pound clash between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (12-3 MMA, 8-2 PRIDE) and debuted Vladmir Matyushenko (17-3 MMA, 0-0 PRIDE) will also take place, as well as another showcase middleweight bout between Ricardo Arona (13-5 MMA, 8-4 PRIDE) and Kyoshi Tamura (31-13-3 MMA, 5-4 PRIDE).

Blurcat.com starts to release today its monthly ranking of the 10 best fighters in the world.

In addition to the best pound for pound, the selected divisions will be those with at least 10 candidates elected to form a ranking.

Like the divisions in events around the world, for example PRIDE / UFC, where middleweights have different weight limits, the basis used for rankings will follow the standard of unified MMA rules.

Fighters on doping suspension, career hiatus or a long time without competing automatically will be removed from the ranking.

You can check the top 10 complete ranking by clicking on the chosen division.

Pound For Pound

<img src=https://sites.google.com/site/mmaground/_/rsrc/1250493521099/fighters/Fedor.jpg>

Fedor Emelianenko is the best pound for pound in the world today. His titles in RINGS and then in PRIDE where he was champion of the division and the Grand Prix, joining his invincibility of 22 fights, some of them over the biggest heavyweights, puts him in the first position. Emelianenko has his participation in the next PRIDE GP Heavyweight guaranteed, but the opponent has not yet been announced.

Last Fight: def. Matt Lindland by Submission (Armbar) at BodogFight: Clash of Nations 3 on April 07.

Next Fight: TBA

Heavyweight

Light Heavyweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/Da16Rrd.png>

Quinton Jackson began his new career journey by winning the rematch against the tormentor of his first MMA fight, Marvin Eastman and months later he knocked out Chuck Liddell again and won the UFC belt. Now Jackson comes after five consecutive wins and that puts him at the top of the Light Heavyweight ranking.

Last fight: def. Chuck Liddell by KO at UFC 71: Liddell vs. Jackson 2 on May 07.

Next fight: TBA

Middleweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/vpgvqta.png>

This division was the most difficult to define the best average weight today, but the beautiful knockouts against Tony Fryklund and Chris Leben and the dominant performance over Rich Franklin put Anderson Silva at the top of this ranking. Anderson will soon know if he will remain at the top, he will face Dan Henderson, who is currently number 2 in this ranking, and will certainly be the fight to determine the best middleweight in the world.

Last Fight: def. Travis Lutter by Submission (Triangle) at UFC 67: All or Nothing on February 07.

Next Fight: vs. Dan Henderson at UFC 72: Silva vs. Henderson on September 07.

Welterweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/IzPVGZd.png>

If you win the best, you are the best. This is the situation that Matt Serra fits into. With an irregular start to his career, Serra participated in the reality show The Ultimate Figher and won, besides the tournament, the chance to dispute the title against Georges St.Pierre. And in a quick fight he shocked the world by beating the Canadian. And this victory places him as the best 170 pound in the world today.

Their next duel will be against Matt Hughes, with whom he has been fueling a rivalry since they were TUF coaches.

Last Fight: def. Georges St.Pierre at UFC 69: Shootout on April 07

Next Fight: vs. Matt Hughes at UFC Fight Night: Serra vs. Hughes on August 07.

Lightweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/0uHIUlZ.png>

With the UFC Lightweight division being renewed and recently having its new champion, PRIDE has been the biggest competition in this division in recent years and the biggest 155 pounds at the moment is Takanori Gomi. The Japanese who came from three straight wins was defeated by Nick Diaz, in an epic fight at PRIDE 33, but the result was changed to No Contest after Diaz failed doping.

Last Fight: NC vs. Nick Diaz at PRIDE 33: Second Coming on February 07.

Next Fight: TBA

Featherweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/16x2zYq.png>

When it comes to lighter divisions, WEC has become a benchmark. The event that only has divisions below 155 lbs, currently has the best Featherweight in the world. Urijah Faber is one of the biggest names in the sport today. With an impressive 18-1 record, Faber is a former KOTC champion and since last year he has been the WEC champion where he has already made two title defenses.

Last Fight: def. Dominick Cruz at WEC 26: Condit vs. Alessio on March 07.

Next Fight: TBA

Bantamweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/xCwQ7Pl.png>

In the WEC you will also find the best Bantamweights in the world and Chase Beebe is currently the best in this division. Winning the title in his last fight defeating Eddie Wineland with a dominant performance. The young champion, 22, had a record of 10-1.

Last Fight: def. Eddie Wineland at WEC 26: Condit vs. Alessio on March 07.

Next Fight:

Flyweight

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/yqdiUj3.png>

The Flyweight division is not very well known around the world yet, but in Japan it is a very popular division. Shooto is the event where the Flyweights have huge recognition and their champion Shinichi Kojima was elected our number one in this division. After winning the title against Mamoru Yamaguchi, Kojima defended his title recently by drawing with Yasuhiro Urushitani in March. Kojima has only one defeat that was in his first fight in his career.

Last Fight: drew with Yasuhiro Urushitani at Shooto: Back to our roots 2 on March 07.

Next Fight: TBA

Finally rivals Matt Serra and Matt Hughes will meet in the octagon. The UFC has prepared a great card for its TV event, UFC Fight Night, which will take place on August 5th in Houston, Texas.

Serra vs. Hughes is currently one of the biggest rivalries of MMA, it is notorious the anger they feel towards each other, however, shortly after Serra shocked the world with his victory over GSP, Hughes was seen celebrating the victory of the future rival and for many fans, the rivalry from before, it now becomes marketing.

The show will take place at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It will broadcast by Spike TV (TV USA) and Combate (TV South America). The card will also cover Blurcat.com's play by play with "The Voice" Matt Edwards and Daniel Tuxford.

SILVA-HENDERSON FOR MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE, "MINOTAURO'' NOGUEIRA-LESNAR ANNOUNCED FOR UFC 72

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/xuHHmRB.png>

by Victor Love

Dan Henderson got his chance at the UFC title. UFC president Dana White announced on Saturday that former PRIDE two-division champion will fight UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva on September 23 in Sacramento, California.

Silva, the best middleweight fighter in the Blurcat.com ranking, has dominated since entering the UFC in June 2006. Using what many consider the most dangerous standing game in MMA, Silva, 32, has brutally ended each one of his three fights in the octagon while raising his overall record to 20-4.

Henderson, 36, returned to the UFC as a double champion at PRIDE, and in his last duel he beat Wanderlei Silva at PRIDE 33 in February, with an incredible knockout, which enshrined Henderson that night in Las Vegas.

Although Henderson (22-5) initially rejected the idea of competing with 185 pounds, he eventually agreed to the fight after being offered the fight for the UFC title, Blurcat.com has learned.

In the co-main event we will have two debutants in the octagon, however, one with vast experience in MMA and the other totally a beginner. The legend and former PRIDE Heavyweight champion, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira makes his long-awaited debut in the UFC, against WWE legend and MMA debutant, Brock Lesnar.

Nogueira, who last competed in December, when he got his rematch against Josh Barnett by beating him by unanimous decision. And like many famous PRIDE names, his contract was terminated and he headed for the UFC.

Lesnar, will have his first experience in an octagon. After many rumors last month he closed a deal with the UFC and his debut was expected against a smaller name, but the fight against Nogueira shows that the UFC believes in the potential of the wrestler.

The main card also features two winners of The Ultimate Fighter. Heavyweight Season two winner, Rashad Evans face Sokoudjou in the Light Heavyweight Division.

Former middleweight champion Rich Franklin returns to the duel against Michael Bisping, who won TUF Light Heavyweight Season Three. It will be Bisping's debut as Middleweight.

And opening the main card, the Brazilian knockout artist, Thiago Alves will face Diego Sanchez in a duel that promises to be one of the best of the night.

The show will take place at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California. It will broadcast by DirectTV (PPV USA) and Combate (TV South America). The card will also cover Blurcat.com's play by play with "The Voice" Matt Edwards and Daniel Tuxford.

by Victor Love

Headlining Strikeforce are two title fights as Paul Buentello and veteran Maurice Smith at main event. All 10 fights on the card are now official after the weigh-ins took place, although the card has lost the fight between Duane Ludwig and Jorge Masvidal, due to Masvidal's injury. The night promises a lot of action at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas.

The evening will crown two new champions in the California-based organization. In the main event Buentello-Smith will fight for the Heavyweight title. Buentello will face the third veteran of the sport in a row, in his last two fights, both for Strikeforce, he beat Tank Abbott with a knockout in 43 seconds and in his most recent fight he overcame Ruben Villareal with a stop in the corner of Villareal. Maurice Smith, 45, is a former UFC champion and recently returned to a fight against Marco Ruas at the IFL. With the great performance he caught the attention of the promoters and signed with Strikeforce where he was already launched in the fight for the title.

In the co-main event, AKA training partners, Trevor Prangley and Phil Baroni, put the partnership aside, in the duel for the middleweight title. Prangley already has two fights on Strikeforce where he remains unbeaten with 2-0 and in addition has not lost for four fights. Baroni returns to America, after a successful spell in Japan, under the banner of PRIDE FC. In his last fight at PRIDE 32, which was held in Nevada, he finished boxer Yosuke Nishijima in the first round.

The show will take place at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas. Card will also cover Blurcat.com's play by play with "The Voice" Matt Edwards and Daniel Tuxford.

MMA AROUND THE WORLD - RESULTS

PAUL BUENTELLO, TREVOR PRANGLEY ARE THE NEW CHAMPIONS IN STRIKEFORCE

<img src=https://i.imgur.com/exEGALB.png>

by Victor Love

Tonight in Texas Strikeforce crowned two champions in two big fights. For the Heavyweight belt in the main event of the night, Paul Buentello faced veteran Maurice Smith. Despite the age the fight started with Smith dominating the fight and doing better in the first round, however, in the second round Buentello started to connect better strokes and little by little Smith was feeling more tired. In the third round Buentello varied with the striking and at the end of the round he applied a takedown and almost got to finish the fight. And in the fourth round with an exhausted Smtih, Buentello connected a good sequence that ended with a straight right hand that knocked Smith down and forced referee Josh Rosenthal to end the fight, much to the delight of the crowd that supported the local Buentello.

In the co-main event we had the most exciting fight of the night. AKA partners Trevor Prangley and Phil Baroni competed for the vacant middleweight belt. The fight started with Baroni hitting the best shots, blocking Prangley's takedown attempts and when the first round was going to end, Baroni landed a hard blow that took Prangley to the canvas, but the gong saved the South African. In the second round the scenario remained with Baroni defending himself from Prangley's attacks and again getting another knockdown, and with Prangley almost beaten, Baroni tried to finish with a kimura, but Prangley held on. In the third round Baroni started to show tiredness and Prangley soon tried to takedown, and with Baroni already without much energy he was easily put down. Prangley advanced in positions and began to hit hard blows from the mounted position and took the knockout Baroni and consecrated the new middleweight champion.

Ciesnolevicz and Ferreira win by rear naked choke; Matt Lee wins quickly

Mike Ciesnolevicz and Alexandre Ferreira made their successful debut. Ciesnolevicz dominated his fight against Alex Schoenauer from the beginning, and in the second round he managed to catch a rear naked choke on the Argentine, who was unable to defend himself and was submitted.

In another Light Heavyweight bout two IFL veterans faced off. And the Brazilian Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira showed that he knows more submissions besides the leglocks. Whitehead started trying to put pressure on Ferreira on the grid, but the Brazilian managed to invert, and with a slam he threw Whitehead on the floor. Already half guard, the Brazilian advanced the positions and in a quick transition advanced to the back and managed to finish with a rear naked choke.

In the opening fight of the main card, Matt Lee quickly overcame Eddy Ellis in the first round with a strong ground n´pound.

In the preliminaries Josh Thomson beat Adam Lynn in the third round by TKO; Bill Mahood overcame Anthony Ruiz by unanimous decision; Falaniko Vitale posed as a possible contender in the middleweight division after easily overcoming Brian Warren via submission in the first round; Luke Stewart knocked out Victor Valenzuela in the second round and Mike Kyle overcame giant Jan Nortje by TKO in the opening round.

ROBBIE LAWLER, JAKE SHIELDS CROWNED A NEW CHAMPIONS IN TEXAS

<img src=https://www.fightergirls.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/20_lg.jpg>

by Michael Hughes

Two of today's best middleweights competed today for the EliteXC belt and Robbie Lawler ended up showing why he was a favorite and overcame Murilo "Ninja" Rua. The fight started with Lawler hitting the best shots while "Ninja" Rua tried to find the right moment for the takedown. Halfway through the round Rua managed to get Lawler to the ground and almost submitted Lawler with a rear naked choke in the final minute. On the return of the second round Lawler quickly defined the fight, with a crusader that took Rua to the ground immediately outside. It was Lawler's second achievement this year alone. He had also beaten Frank Trigg for the defunct ICON Sport belt.

In the co-main event Jake Shields and Mike Pyle fought for the vacant welterweight belt. The fight was a performance without much inspiration, but efficient by Shields, who knew how to dominate the fight on the ground. In the end the judges scored 50x45, 50x45 and 49-46 in favor of Shields who became the new champion.

Diaz in dominant return; Kyle Noke frustrates Paul Daley

Still on the main card, another Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu fighter had his moment of glory. Nick Diaz returning from suspension, applied by the athletic commission after failing the post fight drug test against Gomi in PRIDE 33. And his opponent Joey Villasenor had already achieved a victory at EliteXC and if he beat Diaz he would certainly be the challenger to Shields. However, Diaz showed his fine Jiu Jitsu game and dominated Villasenor with many takedowns and control on the ground. In the end the three judges scored 30-27 in favor of Diaz.

In the third Welterweights fight, Kyle Noke and Paul Daley would make their debuts under the EliteXC banner. Many expected a knockout in this fight, but inside the cage, Noke canceled out and thwarted Daley's accurate striking. Applying takedowns and dominating the fight on the ground in all rounds Noke ended up winning by unanimous decision.

First major women´s MMA fight in history

And in one of the most remarkable moments in MMA history, it happened when the main card opened. The first women's fight in a big event and with great coverage of the American media. On the one hand the rising star Gina Carano and on the other the wife of the fighter Evangelista Cyborg and Brazilian prospect, Cris Cyborg. As both were recognized muay thai fighters, the battle would certainly take place on foot. In the first minute an exchange of blows raised the crowd present in the arena. Cyborg began to impose a stronger pace and hit more Carano. Until the Brazilian threw a cross blow that rocked Carano, then immediately grabbed her in the muay thai clinch and with a sure knee in the chin knocked out the American, giving her the first career loss and raising her name as a future star.

In the preliminaries Daniel Pineda remained undefeated in MMA after beating Malaipet Sasiprapa by unanimous decision; Jae Suk Lin beat Brandon Wolf by TKO in the first round; Dave Huckaba landed a great knockout over Brett Rogers; Scott Jorgensen raised his record to 4-1, with the victory by unanimous decision against Tyson Nam; Bobby McMasters beat Mike Aine by unanimous decision and Yves Edwards got a knockout in the first round against Muhsin Corbbrey.

PRIDE FC!!! I always considered DREAM and RIZIN to be the canon continuation of PRIDE, since it's the same promoters behind it who fpunded those orgs. Finally, we can have an official continuation of the promotion!

Wonder how you'll do without the big heavyweight and middleweight stars. Sure, you still have fedor, barnett and kharitonov, but other than those guys, the division seems pretty weak. The lighter weight divisions are definitely your strongest.

Hi kinnikuniverse!

I also see the deceased, DREAM, and Rizin FF as the PRIDE sequences, and this is the idea. What would a PRIDE sequence look like? I hope you can make a legal sequence showing that MMA and PRIDE can turn around.

Regarding the divisions, the Heavyweight and Middleweight divisions certainly suffered a big blow with the loss of big stars. I think Heavyweight still has good names to work with and in the lightweight division the situation is even better, as we have big names and we will have two big tournaments.

Now our problem is the middleweight division where I see it as the weakest of the moment, I hope that next year some great fighters will be available to sign.

And the partnership with EliteXC and Strikeforce will certainly help organizations grow.
