[HYPE]January 1993: Headlock on Hunger

Recommended Posts

Note: Due to a system issue meaning that I needed to reformat my computer I have stopped any more updates for 1997 as I had done a few things and lost heart after it was lost.

T-Zone Presents: January 1993: Headlock on Hunger

Now onto the good stuff. I know there is already a 1993 but as was mentioned previously be somebody the more mods the better and nobody essentially has a time period locked down. I initially was making this for my own personal use over the last few weeks but have decided to make it available once it is done.

This is being done from the ground up aside from a couple of things like venues which will likely be imported from my 1997/angles etc too.

In 1993 the WWF ran a campaign and a show to help the Somalian relief fund. I have chosen headlock on hunger as the tagline for both this reason and also another.

At the moment due to lockdowns and impact of COVID-19 accross the world there are a number of people much worse of financially and a number of people struggling. I am wanting to raise awareness to this and request (not mandatory but it would be nice) for anyone who eventually downloads the mod once it is ready to make a small donation to their local food bank or charity that deals with making sure people do not go hungry. We live in difficult times and sometimes a little goes a long way.

So onto the mod.. (Due to work commitments sometimes I can blast doing it for days, sometimes I can go days unable to do a thing so no estimated release of a beta atm)

There has been a few weeks/months work gone into it so far, here is a list of the active promotions planned to be in and those who are complete in the mod right now are in bold. (This will be updated as I do them)

In addition an area that I will keep updated here in case anbody has any feedback around it is the current storylines in the mod. I have been doing a lot of research to try and get as many as possible for immersion. I also have a lot of notes for ones to add in promotions that have not yet been complete too. Here is the current list (again this will be updated as I go)

AAA: El Comandante vs. El Capo de Capos (Cien Caras and Konnan)

This feud was carried over from CMLL into AAA and has never been hotted. The two have traded wins and titles and are on a collision course most likely at the first ever TripleMania later this year.

AAA: Panther and a Love Machine

The fun loving babyface Love Machine and Blue Panther are embroiled in a feud that will continue into 1993. There have been small pocket of fans cheering for Panther. Could a double turn be on the cards?

AJPW: Respect and Rivalry

Fewer rivalries in wrestling will ever match that of Kawada and Misawa. Often tag partner and sharing a great mutual respect for one another there is also an underlying aspect to them in that they both covet being the true ace of All Japan. Recently in October 1992 Kawada fell short in a valiant effort to Misawa in his quest for the Triple Crown but this is far from over. Kawada has shown he has grown from the man who was not ready to fight Jumbo a year or so before and proven himself worthy.

ECW: Super Destroyers vs. Winters/Stetson

The Super Destroyers are a dominant tag team champions and it will take a lot to get the belts from off them. Step up former heated rivals Tony Stetson and Larry Winters. Could they be the team to work together and win the gold?

ECW: The Real King of Philadelphia

When Terry Funk was announced as a legend to join commentary this got Eddie Gilbert incensed. Hot Stuff took this as a slight on his own legend and proclaimed himself the real king of the Texas Deathmatch. The two men traded insults and physical altercations as all roads are leading to the two stepping into the ring at least once. This is the first angle and feud since the launch of the company and is it started off HOT!

ECW: Thrasher and JT

On the lower end of the card a small rivalry is developing between JT Smith and Max Thrasher. The two have traded wins and are on course for a blow off.

SMW: Big Mouth and the Bullet

Ever since the formation of the company, the loud and brash manager Jim Cornette has been at odds with the commissioner Bob Armstrong. The two are a constant thorn in the side of each other and this feud shows no signs of stopping.

This is a call back to the feud Cornette had many years ago with Bill Watts in Mid-South.

SMW: Dirty White Lightning

Tim Horner has long been on a quest to wrestle the SMW Heavyweight Title away from Dirty White Boy. The champion has managed to retain time and time again, whether that be interference from allies Paul Orndorff and Ron Wright or whether that be by other nefarious means of holding onto the title he has done it. The feud came to a head recently with Horner stealing and now being in possession of the title. Bob Armstrong has requested it be returned as we head to one last match.

SMW: Heavenly Rock and Roll Studs

The Rock 'n' Roll Express have been feuding for a long while with Jim Cornette and his charges The Heavenly Bodies. At Thanksgiving Thunder, over three days of events the teams traded the SMW Tag Team Titles culminating in a barbed wire cage match. Recently The Stud Stable got involved in the mix by accidentally costing the Bodies a match leading to the three teams having a three-way feud going on.

SMW: The Master and his Master Plan

In mid-1992 Brian Lee suddenly became a wanted man. Posters offering a reward bounty of $10,000 to put him on the shelf were being seen all over the locker room. From their workers, most notably The Nightstalker and The Mongolian Mauler began trying to take out Lee presumably for the bounty being offered. This culminated in Lee fighting Stalker for the chance to meet "The Master" who was behind this. This man was Kevin Sullivan and he claimed he was too violent for the big leagues.

SMW: Wonderfully Rugged

In mid-1992 Paul Orndorff and Ronnie Garvin began feuding but it was taken up a notch when Orndorff stole the towel of his rival and hung him with it. This lit a fire in the rugged one and the two have been trading wins ever since. Recently at Thanksgiving Thunder Orndorff lost in a handicap match to Garvin and Danny Davis befoe brutally delivering his famous Piledriver on the floor to the latter and almost the former until Tim Horner ran him off. This feud looks far from over

USWA: Bubba Johnson?

Miss Texas is one of the top female talents in the USWA...or is she?

Bert Prentice would like to have you believe that it is actually a man under the name of Bubba Johnson. As silly as all of this sounds Prentice has vowed alongside his client Leslie Belanger to strip Texas down and prove this to the world. The stage is set for Prentice and Belanger to take on Texas and Eddie Marlin.

USWA: Hair today/Gone Tomorrow

Jeff Jarrett and the cocky brash Brian Christopher have been at odds for as long as there has been Blues on Beale Street it seems. The feud however is showing no signs of slowing down as in late 92 Jarrett defeated Brian for the Southern Heavyweight Title in one of their latest showpiece matches. Jarrett now will only put the title on the line against the former champion if he puts his hair on the line. This has already lead to Christopher's lackey Zeke Rivers being shaved bald. Is Brian next?

USWA: Mean Mike and The King

Mike Miller cost Jerry Lawler £10,000 as a part of a battle royal by using a foreign object. The legend of Memphis retaliated to this by beating down Miller when the mean one crashed his holiday party. This feud has spilled over with Lawler backed up by Jeff Jarrett and his former advisories the Moondogs and their manager Richard Lee. Miller on the other hand is backed up by Mike Samples, The Bruise Brothers, The Masters of Terror, and Brian Christopher. This one is about to get messy.

WCW: Cactus feelin' Fruity

After Johnny B. Badd and Cactus Jack were placed together for the Lethal Lottery they did not get on from the start. After winning a match on Saturday Night in late December Jack laid out his partner with the Double Arm DDT. The two now have a score to settle as we head into 1993.

WCW: Good Friends Bitter Enemies

Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham were long term friends and tag team partners with a mutually held respect for one another. After Windham was put on the shelf by Arn Anderson Dustin began teaming with Ricky Steamboat but after that team ran its course the two reunited to defeat Steve Williams and Terry Gordy. This was a short lived feel good story as Windham turned following a loss for the team at Clash of the Champions XXI. The two have both since been niggling at each other leading to a match.

WCW: Pillman and The Champs

There has been a long going rivalry between Brian Pillman and the team of Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas. Recently the partner of choice has been Barry Windham but with Windham set on gaining singles gold Pillman needs a new partner.

(In real life Steve Austin was that partner leading to some memorable matches but you can choose whoever you like)

WCW: The Enforcer Hates Nepotism

In late 1992 Arn Anderson was injured by an STF from Erik Watts. This is not the first or only injury from the son of promoter Bill Watts and has lost the veteran his livelihood. Anderson cut an empassioned promo about how he has competed with injuries in the past including a broken neck but this leg injury is taking food from his family's table as Bill is not renewing his contract. This all puts Arn on course to try and dole out some retribution to the young star.

WCW: The Man and The Mastodon

In April 1992 during a title defence for Sting we saw Vader crack three of Sting's ribs and rupture his spleen. Later in the year in July when Sting returned he lost the belt to monster. The tables were then turned as shortly after Vader lost the title to Ron Simmons he then lost to Sting in the final of the King of Cable tournament at Starrcade. Two days later however, Vader won the title back from Simmons setting the two men on a collision course once again. This feud is far from over.

WCW: The Strongest Arm

In a short ongoing lower card feud there is debate around who has the strongest arm between Tony Atlas and Van Hammer which will lead to an arm wrestling contest penned in for Clash of the Champions.

WWF: Barbershop Fallout

Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels were best friends and one of the best teams on the roster. That was until Shawn turned on his long term friend for his own gain and put him through a Barbershop Window. Almost two years on from this Marty appeared again and immediately targeted Shawn. In the middle of all this was Sensational Sherri and she ended up being smashed with the mirror Shawn uses to check himself out. The two men are set to fight at the Royal Rumble but who will Sherri be rooting for?

WWF: Harvey and the Deadman

After The Undertaker put Kamala down into a casket his manager Harvey Wippleman has vowed revenge. Rumour has it he is bringing in a "Giant" surprise.

WWF: Jokes on You

Doink the Clown has not yet had an official match in the company but is already causing havoc. He has thrown water over Marty Jannetty, tripped over the Big Bossman and caught Tatanka in the eye with a wet mop.

(In real life Crush stepped up to try and put the clown in his place, this part has not happened yet so is free for you to choose that person yourself)

WWF: Perfect Nature

After spending time in the corner of Ric Flair during his world title reigns Randy Savage asked Perfect to be his partner against Flair and Razor Ramon at Survivor Series. Sick of all the snide comments from Bobby Heenan he eventually took up Savage on the offer leading to a win for the unlikely duo. Flair has still not forgiven his former aide and the two are heading for a singles showdown.

WWF: The Hitman and The Bad Guy

With the Ultimate Warrior leaving the company a new challenger was needed for Bret Hart at the Royal Rumble. Razor Ramon was announced as that man which will lead to the two facing off at the Royal Rumble.

WWF: You are a Man

Kamala has long been mistreated by Harvey Wippleman and his handler Kim Chee. Reverend Slick is out to show Kamala he is a man not just their monster.

Here are a couple of pics of the mod at the moment (stats subject to change as once database complete there will be a rebalancing against peers):

Another quick update to say rosters for the initial 46 companies are complete barring a couple of people I need to find extra info on. I will now be moving onto filling out some free agents. The worker count stands at just under 1,000 at the moment.

There are a couple of additional promotions I have information on that I am considering adding but not sure on:

World Wrestling Association (Mexico)

Oriental Pro-Wrestling (Japan)

Universal Wrestling Superstars (New York)

Power Zone Wrestling Alliance (Oklahoma)

Big D Pro Wrestling *(Texas)

Nu-Age Wrestling (Wisconsin)

Pro Wrestling Crusaders (Japan)

River City Wrestling (Winnipeg)

Will see what workers I would need to fill them etc once I sort my planned list of free agents.

Here is their roster as it stands though (Some are short term like Bulldog is one appearance left events only as he was only there for a cup of coffee and had agreed with WCW):</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="Ju2jif3.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Ju2jif3.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Just a small update, still been working through free agents imported from my 97 database and tweaked and altered.

Took a break to make some logos, now I am not the best so some are better than others but every promotion and stable in there now has a logo of some sort which I believe helps with the game immersion.

Here are a couple screens showing some things.

EDIT: Also a quick question if anyone can help, I made a blank background and put it in the logo folder with the name _Blank Background.jpg but it is not showing up in the game the same way others do, I must be doing something wrong just cannot figure out what?

I don't know, but you should ask in the tech support section, so maybe they can help you out.

Anyway, looking forward to play this era.
