WCW 1995 - A Man, A Plan, A Stream, Nitro

Recommended Posts

This is a companion series of posts loosely turned into a diary following a game of WCW 1995 I am playing on https://www.twitch.tv/drkarmicknight.

The Concept:

Generally I am pretty loose with my booking plans and try to incorporate ideas from the chat as much as possible into the over structure of the booking, which is where this is going to break from what I like to see in these sorts of projects. It's going to be loose and free form and not completely thought or planned out more than to the next supercard or the next major story-line beat. It's also going to have weirder gimmicks than I would prefer, because it's essentially going to be a improv jam session that is translated into a text recap.

The streams and vods should by definition start at the point the write up ends, like I might fail but I am certainly going to try.

The Basics of Where We Are Now:

WCW in September 1995, meaning that it is the very first Nitros, the Fall Brawl War Games featuring a Vader that has been fired. Lex Luger's arrival in WCW and many more things.

Mechanically, we are starting as Bischoff with the 1995_MNW database and graphics. With a few minor scheduling changes (including making Clash a monthly TV special), WCW is going to continue as it has always done with Hogan feuding with the Dungeon of Doom, Flair and Arn Anderson having their weird falling out feud, and a focus on bringing in and pushing luchadors, puro juniors, and other cruiserweight style wrestlers into the slurry that is the future WCW Cruiserweight division. Oh and factions are incoming.

WCW Monday Nitro

Tony Schiavone, Larry Zbyszko, and Bobby Heenan welcome us to the Mall of America in Saint Paul, MN and throw immediately to the first match on tonight's debut edition of Monday Nitro.

<img alt="I0ZU1BO.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/I0ZU1BO.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="WbtA1UD.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/WbtA1UD.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Pillman defeats Liger, pinfall with Air Pillman. 13:13

A fast paced and exciting showcase of the style for the planned cruiserweight division featuring a future fixture of the show in Pillman and also a living legend (even now in 1995) in Jushin Thunder Liger. Pillman plays and clear, but subtle, heel: turning up the heat and hitting Liger harder than Liger hits him first. No cheating but a clean pinfall victory for Pillman.

<img alt="pDUtFYj.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pDUtFYj.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> interviews: <img alt="55wD2ZI.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/55wD2ZI.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, <img alt="wk0XuFm.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wk0XuFm.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, <img alt="Z8goz5r.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z8goz5r.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> and <img alt="jxcGot6.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jxcGot6.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Focus is pulled to a space cleared in the Mall of America for Gene Okerlund to conduct interviews, and his guest at this time is Col. Parker and his Stud Stable.

Col. Parker runs down Harlem Heat, who the tag champions Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater are scheduled to face at Fall Brawl, as well as taking shots at Road Warrior Hawk, who's arm Kuraswa broke at Clash of the Champions XXXI. Parker gets some back talk from Mean Gene, but otherwise it's a straight heel promo to establish some threads leading to Fall Brawl.

<img alt="azuKGVg.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/azuKGVg.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> video package.

Nitro returns from a commercial break to feature a video showcasing the skills and attitude of one Eddy Guerrero. Special attention is paid to his lucha libre bone-fides.

<img alt="7nw6o9c.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7nw6o9c.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="BzwmKzn.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BzwmKzn.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

United States Heavyweight Title Match

Sting defeats Flair, disqualification by Flair, 13:03

Sting and Ric Flair play the hits, maybe hitting a bit harder than usual for a Sting/Flair match to help sell Nitro as special. The other things that sells Nitro as special is the arrival of a surprise guest, LEX LUGER. The finish arrives when Ric Flair is scared by the appearance of Arn Anderson at ringside, leading to him hitting Sting with a low blow, drawing the DQ, and begging off to try and reason with Anderson.

<img alt="BzwmKzn.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BzwmKzn.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, <img alt="Y7KPxgX.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Y7KPxgX.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, <img alt="bCW4DNS.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bCW4DNS.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, and <img alt="x4Jza3I.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/x4Jza3I.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> in a post-match angle.

As Flair and Anderson argue on their way to the back, while Sting and Luger stand across from each other in the ring. Sting gets the microphone from a ringside attendant and calls down Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Savage enters with no fanfare, but Hogan gets his theme music. Sting tells Savage and Hogan that with Vader MIA he's found the team it's final member in Lex Luger. Luger says he'll do it if Hogan offers him a World Title shot, because aside from supporting his friend Sting, Luger is in WCW to focus on Hogan's World title.

Hogan seems to acquiesce to Luger's demand as the segment ends with a commercial break.

<img alt="pDUtFYj.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pDUtFYj.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> interviews: <img alt="EScqL5c.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EScqL5c.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, <img alt="5QzsJJt.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5QzsJJt.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, and <img alt="oQF3PhR.gif" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/oQF3PhR.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Mean Gene Okerlund is interviewing Diamond Dallas Page (with Maxx Muscle and the Diamond Doll in tow) and DDP is adamant that a change is coming. Diamond Dallas Page is here to win big and strike it hot with the pound for pound most valuable belt in WCW. The Television title, which can guarantee matches across WCW's television world. And TV time and TV matches can be molded into even more money making endeavors for the business mind behind the Diamond Mine. D D P.
