Still, I think there's something more meaningful behind the chair shots, light tubes and barbwire than just ultraviolence and gore. In Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling's case, that sense of purpose comes from its revolutionary roots. For those new to CVerse, PSW is the spiritual successor to Danger and Violence Extreme, a Tri-State area hardcore fed with a ravenous, cult-like following—I'm sure you can deduce what real-life company it's based on. In a professional wrestling landscape dominated by sports entertainment, DAVE defied the large, corporate products known as SWF and HGC/TCW through authenticity and audacity. For many young men ages 18-30, the company served as a cultural awakening for active rebellion and societal disenchantment, well, until it folded in the mid-2000s. Today, that anger and rage are needed more than ever. The rise of USPW has created a pro wrestling product more sanitized and sterilized than ever before. My goal with this diary is to continue the story of the hardcore revolution through PSW. I will almost exclusively be focusing on writing the company's shows rather than covering the behind-the-scenes. However, the plan is to address and reference the landscape of the CVerse wrestling world through the storylines and segments of PSW kayfabe and lore. Lastly, for those who haven't read my diaries before, I have been writing on and off about CVerse for around eight years. I've never quite managed to commit to a project due to school, work and family. With almost half a year of free time before I start my grad program, I think right now would be as good as ever to attempt a long-term diary. Hopefully, this one sticks because I have quite a few booking ideas I'm dying to see realized through text. Oh, and I want to thank all of the graphical mod creators whose brilliant work helped made this diary possible. Off the top of my head, big ups to willr0ck, J Silver, King Bison and JTlant. Ernest Youngman vs. Xavi Ferrera #1 Contenders Match for PSW Championship Notes: Comparing the two, they're actually pretty even in terms of potential, but as it stands Day 1, Ernest is the good call in this situation, I will say however don't count my boy Xavi out, he can turn into a beast of a worker, although I am bias, Island boys stick together. Devil May Care vs. Reckless Antix Loser Leaves Town Match! Notes: This is the hardest one to predict, I feel they has a use in the tag division, but only Reckless has any redeeming value in 2020, and that would only be as a solid midcard guy, Antix is definitely past the prime, while Acid and Stuntman are solid, young, and I think BOTH could turn into main event players (in PSW) with careful consideration Little Bill Bekowski vs. Logan Wolfsbaine Notes: lol okay Bill One Night Only: Tank Bradley Returns! The burley Mennonite is quite the neighborly moving machine, unloading the champ's U Haul in record time. Parked behind the truck is Jeb's horse-drawn wagon. As the two are working to get the champ settled in, Callum is full of questions about the Amish way of life. "So, you're saying you just make this kind of stuff (pointing to his peeling Ikea furniture), like by hand?" "Yes." "Have you made a trophy cabinet before? Like one specifically that holds title belts?" Callum smirks, winking at his PSW championship, which is sitting on a crate of classic rock albums. Suddenly, a plump, grey bird lands on Jebediah’s shoulder. There’s a letter tied to the pigeon’s foot. Nelson Callum retrieves it. “Messenger pigeons? Seriously? You know text messages are a thing now, right?” Jedediah stares blankly. “Nevermind.” The pigeon squawks at Callum. Jebediah squints at the letter for a second and then gives up. He asks Nelson to read it to him—apparently, he threw away his bifocals because Wicked Lester told him they were made by a robot. “My dearest Jebediah, I hope the outside world is treating you well. We are doing well on the township. Father recently got a traffic citation for distracted driving after a police officer pulled him over while he was carving a wood figurine while hitching the family buggy. Anyways, how are you? I am writing to let you know that your nephew is getting so big now and wants to become a professional wrestler. We tell him it’s better at home but he’s chosen his path so the family has decided to send him to live with you. Please take care of him, he looks up to you. And please visit when you have a chance. We are having casserole again this weekend, your favorite. Much love, your sister, Abigail.” Jebediah sighs. “Oh, bother.” Grade: 43 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpg Dustin Deuce vs. Ash Campbell Non-Title Match Despite Ash Campbell’s best efforts as a heel, it’s hard for the PSW fans to root against the guy. Seriously, whose genius idea was it to have him come back as a bad guy after he overcame deep depression after the death of his dad John “Nemesis” Campbell, the most popular wrestler in DAVE history? Poor Dustin Deuce, who has deal with getting booed out of the building while trying to establish his babyface character. The two open the show like a shot of espresso as they exchange fast sequences of offense. While Campbell has largely pivoted away from the cruiserweight-style he once generously employed in his early years, he still manages to take to the skies thanks to his high-flying opponent. With the crowd firmly behind him, Ash tries to remind everyone that he’s still the villain by illegally pulling on Deuce’s luscious locks. How dastardly. The fans don’t seem to care. With the crowd reasonably hot, the match winds down to a game Dustin Deuces continually attempting, but failing to connect with his signature double-footed stomp from the top rope. His last attempt would be the fatal mistake, leaving him just prone enough for Campbell to drag himself onto the turnbuckle and connect with his brilliant Shooting Star Press, spelling deuces to Deuces. Ash Campbell defeats Dustin Deuces Grade: 38 Angle featuring Devil Dog and Dead Bolt Backstage, Devil Dog is shown spitting out a bloody tooth into a locker room sink. His right eye is purple. There's some weird grey liquid oozing out of it. Referee RM Stones walks by and asks him if he’s okay with a look of concern. Devil Dog flashes a bloody grin. “You should see the other guy.” Wincing, Dog cracks his broken nose back into place. Stones shakes his head and walks off. As Devil Dog continues to bandage his wounds, Dead Bolt barges right up to the rugged ex-marine. “You think you’re really tough, huh?” Devil Dog looks him right in the eye, unflinching. Bolt points a fat sausage of a finger directly into Dog’s chest. “All I’ve heard from everyone since you signed on here is how bad ass you are. How tough you are. So tell me, how tough are you, pup?” "Pretty tough." Devil Dog quietly shrugs and resumes cleaning up his wounds. Feeling disrespected, Dead Bolt visibly debates whether or not to take a swing at Dog. Gnashing his teeth, the PSW Hall of Famer thinks better of it. “You better watch your back, pup. Don’t wanna get a matching one for your left eye, eh?” Grade: 34 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/iBLaTyH.jpg Blood Soldiers vs. Samoan Destruction Inc. Non-Title Match The first thing viewers probably noticed is that there’s a lot of face paint in this match. Ironically, Deathwish’s ugly, barefaced mug is just as frightening as his partner’s zombie makeup or his opponent’s tribal war paint. Anyways, the tag-team champions Samoan Destruction Inc. arrive to the ring, performing their signature haka. The intimidating Polynesian war dance never fails to get the crowd’s blood pumping for a match. There’s no one better to sell the animalistic nature of the champs’ offense than ZomBoy. The youngster is tossed all around the ring like a human crash-dummy. One series, in particular, had Wicked Lester’s minion ragdolling off of a double-team turnbuckle slam. Honestly, the guy could probably sell garbage bags to Mickie James. His tag-team partner…was less impressive. Deathwish looks like a backyard wrestler, well, which he is. Despite his limited talent, he plays his role as a psycho wild man well. Fans likely watched the match thinking “wow this guy is nuts.” Nuts or not, the Blood Soldiers aren’t enough for the tag-team champs. Given that the Samoan Destruction Inc. have been together since George W. Bush's first term as president, they've seen their fair share of crazy. Things break down in the ring and Umaga smashes through both ZomBoy and Deathwish with his signature Rhino Charge. Samoan Machine piles ZomBoy on top of Deathwish and Rhino pins both men for a three count. Samoan Destruction Inc. defeats Blood Soldiers Grade: 39 Angle featuring Cowboy Buck Winchester, Austin Smooth and ??? A brief intermission is interrupted by a scampering Austin Smooth who is fleeing from a resolute Cowboy Buck Winchester. Since this past November, Smooth has successfully avoided having his head taken off by Winchester’s signature lariat, much to the crowd’s chagrin. The fans cheer on Buck, who chases Smooth to the back. The video board shows the two have Benny Hill’d their way into catering, with Winchester finally cornering his rather annoying nemesis. He tips his Stetson. “Nowhere to hide, partner.” Smooth looks on the verge of wetting his pants as Buck winds his arm back like a major league pitcher. He shrieks in terror. WHAM! Austin ducks in the last second, diving into a table of deserts to avoid the lariat. Missing his target, Winchester clotheslines Cerberus instead by accident, splattering a large plate of mac n’ cheese all over the big man’s already disgustingly-stained tank top. Cerberus, who is holding a massive turkey leg in his meaty hand, turns bright red in anger. Cereberus “WHAT IN THE HELL!” Letting out a furious roar, Cerberus grabs Winchester and powerbombs him through a snack table, before resuming to work on the turkey leg. His manager, Carl Batch, hands him a napkin, which Cerberus promptly ignores. With a sigh of relief, Smooth mocks Buck before scuttling off in terror as Cowboy starts to stir underneath an aluminum tray of mashed potatoes. Grade: 42 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpg Tank Bradley vs. Sayeed Ali [C] PSW National Title Match Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. A decade ago, Tank Bradley had enough “go-away heat” with the fans to melt permafrost. After the DAVE alumni actually went away, the PSW crowd is now going wild over seeing a guy who they once gave themselves mental illness from complaining about on an online wrestling forum. Water under one of the 446 bridges in Pittsburgh. Alex Braun is clearly happy to see his long-time tag-team partner: “Welcome back, Tank! Let’s see if he’s still got it!” Spoiler alert, he never had it. Always a mediocre worker, Bradley has seen old age erode what little skills he had. The crowd was quickly reminded of why it soured on him in the first place, booing the veteran and cheering for the much cooler Sayeed Ali. The match quickly devolves into garbage wrestling as the two begin exchanging weapon shots back and forth, much to the fans’ delight. Thanks to Sayeed Ali’s underrated performance skills, the match was way better than it had any right to be. Still, Bradley was gassed just walking through the ramp for his entrance so they had to wrap things up fast. No-selling a kendo stick to the face, Ali nails Tank with a brutal spinning elbow, following up with his infamous G.B.H. Driver onto a steel chair. Sayeed covers the DAVE alumni as a formality, although RM Stones could probably count to 1000. And still your PSW National champion! Sayeed Ali defeats Tank Bradley Grade: 35 Angle featuring Sayeed Ali After the match, Sayeed Ali signals to the sound tech to cut off his classic Mobb Deep theme song. Ripping the mic out of the assistant’s hands, the brash New York paces back and forth, cutting one of his signature, near the knuckle promos. “When PSW top brass approached me about defending my title against Tank Bradley, I accepted, son. Wanna know why? Let me tell you a story, B.” Planting a foot over a near-unconscious Bradley’s skull, Ali continues, speaking from the corner of his mouth. “Back when I was a young hustler from Brownsville, that’s Brownsville—Brooklyn—NEW YORK CITY, I was just trynna get my moms out of the projects. DAVE took one look at me and threw my resume in the trash. They talked the talk about the revolution, but in the end, Phil was just a Richard Eisen in leather pants. No way my Black ass was getting a job there, I was born with CRACK ROCK in my blood, thanks Pops. Now look at me. I've got these has-beens held together by duct tape and pain-killers comin’ at me begging for a title shot when they wouldn’t give me the time of day when I asked them for a little help.” Ali’s size 14 Timberland boot presses harder upon Bradley’s skull as the crowd fills the venue with boos. “So, real talk, you wanna know why I accepted this match? Cuz it’s f*** DAVE—that's why, son!” Grade: 43 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpg Little Bill Lebowski vs. Logan Wolfsbaine Non-Title Match Behold, The Glorious One—Logan Wolfsbaine, the powerhouse of the Steel Circle stable, makes his way out in the most self-indulgent entrance possible. One could say the crowd was basking in his glory but it turns out that catchphrase is already copyrighted. Across the ring is the plucky Little Bill Lebowski. While clearly unassuming, the veteran has wrestled longer than Wolfsbaine has been alive. Still, given how dominant Logan has been, one would assume he’d toss the tiny Lebowski around—and that’s how the match started. Wolfsbaine applies his amateur background in full force, firmly grasping the smaller man in a series of crisp holds. It looks like a one way train to squash town before… Everything slows to a halt as Austin Smooth, covered in cupcake frosting, runs into the ring. Wolfsbaine and Lebowski look at each other, bewildered. Behind Smooth lumbers behind a hobbling Cowboy Buck Winchester, covered in mashed potatoes and gravy. He’s muttering under his breath about how he’s going to lariat Smooth’s stupid head off of his stupid body. Lebowski takes advantage of the situation, blindsiding Wolfsbaine with a flurry of offense. He’s relentless, raining down punches on his much larger opponent. Even in a company like PSW where rules are at a minimum, official Ryan Holland has to force a break. When Little Bill ignores the order, the much larger “Death Ref” simply picks up the smaller man like a child and sets him down. The match continues in a back-and-forth brawl for a little while before Logan simply overpowers Lebowski, polishing him off with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. He pins the veteran in quite a decent match. Logan Wolfsbaine defeats Little Bill Lebowski Grade: 46 Angle Featuring Teddy Powell and Sayeed Ali Sayeed Ali is shown walking in the parking lot with his gym slung over his shoulder. His National title shines brightly around his waist. As he pulls out his keys, he’s approached by PSW veteran Teddy Powell. “Hey man, I heard what you said. What you said about DAVE out there…” Ali stares coldly at Powell. Teddy seems taken aback. “Well, uh, I heard what you said about DAVE out there and I totally agree! See, I hated every minute I spent working for that company. No, scratch that, every second. It was so bad. Anyways, I wanted to talk to you because while I 100% totally absolutely agree with what you said, it might piss off quite a few of my ex-coworkers." “Get. To. The. Point.” “Listen, you painted a big target on your back by cussing out DAVE. But don’t worry, brotha! I got your back. I know every one of them like the back of my hand. So let’s help each other out. I scratch your back, you scratch my back—what do ya say?” Sayeed Ali looks irritated but takes a second to ruminate on Powell’s offer. Teddy pulls out his hand, offering it to shake. BAM! In one jerk motion, Ali grabs Teddy and tosses him through the windshield of a parked car. The champ brushes off some stray broken glass on his windbreaker and walks off. “Owie.” Grade: 35 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpg Devil May Care vs. Reckless Antix Loser Leaves Town! For the past two months, Devil May Care and Reckless Antix have attempted to kill each other in the ring after Antix dropped an incendiary diss track with the banger of a verse “Simon Ice / more like Simon not nice.” Since then, PSW has been unable to keep the two duos from tearing each other apart, ultimately leading up to Mitch Naess announcing a “Loser Leaves Town” match. Since Pennsylvania is an at-will employment state, it’s totally legal. Both teams explode out of the gate with the urgency of their jobs on the line. Acid II lands a flying elbow onto Antix before eating a big pump kick from Xavier Reckless. From the skies, Stuntman flies in with a diving crossbody outta nowhere. Unfortunately, the intensity of the co-main event takes its toll—Xavier Reckless, who, despite his ring name, is actually a pretty safe worker, strains his shoulder while attempting a fireman’s carry on Stuntman. The rest of the match relies on Antix doing most of the legwork while Xavier camps the apron nursing his injury. While he does a noble job, the Canadian veteran is clearly a slower-paced worker and it adulterates the fast pace of the bout. There are only so many rest holds and power slams that Antix can pull off before Stuntman mounts a comeback. Countering with an enziguri, the Brit crawls to his corner for the hot tag. In comes Acid II, who picks up the pace with some pretty offense before ultimately putting an end to Reckless Antix’s time in PSW with a resounding Acid Rain Bomb. For Devil May Care, the high-flying duo is firmly in the tag title hunt behind Rich and Famous. For Reckless Antix, it means goodbye. The duo breaks kayfabe for a second to thank the crowd, taking a bow before making their last walk to the back. Reckless Antix must leave town! Devil May Care defeats Reckless Antix Grade: 36 Angle featuring Ernest Youngman and Xavi Ferrera Main event time! Before proper introductions can be made, Ernest Youngman comes out, accompanied as always by Venus Angeletti. Representing the Steel Circle, Youngman is all about discipline and structure, a stark contrast to the free-spirited, counter-cultural attitudes of the greater PSW. Oh, and he’s never quiet about his beliefs. “Ahh, it’s that time again. Happy New Year! A fresh start for everyone. Time to make a new resolution! What’s your resolution? I know what this guy’s resolution is (pointing out a larger gentleman in the crowd). It’s the same one he’s probably had for the past decade. Lemme guess, to lose weight, huh?” The crowd boos, Youngman laughs. “How’s that working for you? Huh? Listen, the ‘Assassin of the Squared Circle’ doesn’t need a New Year’s Resolution. I don’t wait for January 1st for an excuse to better myself. When I set my mind out to do something, I do it. That’s why I’m here with her (referencing to Venus) about to cave in Xavi Ferrera’s face and then take back my title from that dumb blonde bimbo Nelson Callum while fatty over there (pointing to the same guy, who has a really sad look on his face) pays money he should be spending on a gym membership to watch me. Me!” He’s about to open his mouth again but thankfully, Xavi Ferrera interrupts him, much to the crowd’s delight. The Portuguese-Puerto Rican isn’t feeling particularly talkative. “Since we’re sharing New Year's Resolutions, how about mine where I kick your ass so bad, you spend the next month eating out of the straw." Grade: 60 http://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpg Ernest Youngman vs. Xavi Ferrera #1 Contenders Match Before the opening bell, Ferrera lunges at Youngman, intent on making good with his promise. Early on, it’s all Xavi, who applies suffocating pressure upon the former champ through an array of high impact strikes. One particularly memorable sequence had him blasting Youngman out of the ring with a resounding jumping knee to the face. Fat guy in the crowd is clearly happy. It wasn’t before long that Youngman’s Steel Circle cronies began making themselves known. Jake Idol is out first to distract Ferrera, while his Rich and Famous partner Jackpot Jordan tosses Ernest a plastic folding chair. Xavi eats a big chair shot to the noggin. Rich and Famous Despite the interference, Rich and Famous keep their distance for most of the match. Well, until a rough Irish whip sends Xavi flying out of the ring. Jordan and Idol swarm Ferrera, stomping a mudhole into the youngster with their designer shoes. In the ring, Ernest Youngman directs traffic, shouting instructions to Rich and Famous like the little authoritarian that he is. Apparently, his demands were just a bit too complicated as Jake Idol mistimes a chair shot, hitting his partner square in the face. Ferrera takes advantage, dropping Idol with a DDT onto exposed concrete. With the odds somewhat evened, Ferrera mounts a fiery comeback. Fat guy in the crowd goes wild. Unleashing chair shot after chair shot, Xavi seems to have regained control of the match. Well, until Rich and Famous recover and interfere again. Ferrera manages to fight them off momentarily with a chair but it’s a short earned victory. Logan Wolfsbaine The Glorious One makes his glorious entrance as Logan Wolfsbaine storms to the ring. Xavi swings the chair at him. Wolfsbaine effortlessly blocks the shot with his forearm, swatting the chair five feet into the air. Laughing, he wraps his massive arms around Xavi, planting him with a brutal Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Fat guy is now sad. Youngman, with a wide Cheshire Cat grin across his face, pins a battered Ferrera for the win. And new #1 contender! Ernest Youngman defeats Xavi Ferrera Grade: 59 Angle featuring Ernest Youngman, Logan Wolfsbaine, Rich and Famous, Xavi Ferrera and ??? The bell might as well be white noise as the Steel Circle continues to beat down Xavi Ferrera long after the match is over. Jackpot Jordan is especially enjoying it, snickering between every stomp. As the two Rich and Famous members hold up Xavi for Ernest to drive a steel folding chair through the skull of, they’re interrupted by some faint honking. beep...beep...Beep...Beep...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP...BEEP… The Steel Circle members look at each other, befuddled, as a U Haul pulls up. On the side is a decal of a red panda, with the bright letters “Did You Know” painted above the critter. Nelson Callum "THE CHAMP IS HERE!" The crowd goes wild when they realize it’s Nelson Callum crawling out of the cab. Apparently, he’s not finished moving into his new apartment. Nelson opens up the trailer door, pulling out an Ikea lamp, which he smashes over the head of a charging Logan Wolfsbaine. Jake Idol is up next, well, until he eats a potted plant to the face. Jackpot Jordan turns around to see Ernest Youngman already up the ramp, far from harm’s reach. Callum, with a broom in hand, chases after the fleeing former tag-team champion. WHAM! Before Jordan can get away, Ferrera nails him with a big clothesline. He nods at Callum who starts a count: “1...2...3! Get the tables!” Callum holds a struggling Jackpot Jordan down as Ferrera spends a few minutes meticulously putting together Nelson’s Ikea dining table. He pauses. “Wait, is this the right screw?” “Yeah, I think so.” “Cool.” He finally puts it together and Callum offers Ferrera the honors. Xavi is too happy to oblige, powerbombing Jordan right through the piece of dorm room furniture. Lacquered wood splinters stick out of Jackpot's back like a porcupine. Alex Braun at this point has lost his voice yelling from the top of his lungs. “BY GOD MITCH! Have you ever ever seen something like this! DarK_RaideR: 4/6 This is the hardest one to predict, I feel they has a use in the tag division, but only Reckless has any redeeming value in 2020, and that would only be as a solid midcard guy, Antix is definitely past the prime, while Acid and Stuntman are solid, young, and I think BOTH could turn into main event players (in PSW) with careful consideration Definitely my logic with the booking. Both teams felt a bit like they were stitched together extemporaneously, but I think Acid II has a pretty bright future and Stuntman is a quintessential spot monkey necessary for any hardcore fed. Sad to see Xavier go though. Sayeed almost kills the old man. ha Spot on! Also, here are some alternative portraits for him you might be interested in[/i] Man I love that Sockpuppet Tank Bradley!
