Paradigm Shift: The All Elite Wrestling Story

Recommended Posts

Months ago, AEW president Tony Khan promised that "the balance of power" in professional wrestling was tipping. His message slowly started coming true, and the first truly major shift came on August 20, 2021.

Then, just a few short weeks later, Tony Khan vision of a paradigm shift was complete. On September 5, 2021, the landscape of professional wrestling officially changed in a drastic way.

[This dynasty will officially kick off with the September 8 episode of AEW Dynamite; I will rebook the shows leading up to, and including, AEW All Out, using the "NEW UNOFFICIAL SPECIAL ALL OUT RELEASE" of the Real World Chronicles. Many thanks to Questlove and the RWC team for releasing this update.]

AEW All Out 2021 Results:

Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor, and Wheeler Yuta) and Jurassic Express (with Marko Stunt) defeated Hardy Family Office (Matt Hardy and Private Party and The Hybrid 2) when Jungle Boy made Angelico tap out; The Butcher returned and beat down Cassidy after the match until several faces made the save.

Miro defeated Eddie Kingston via pinfall to retain the TNT Championship after a low blow.

Jon Moxley defeated Satoshi Kojima via pinfall; Minoru Suzuki confronted and attacked Moxley after the bout.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defeated Kris Statlander via submission to retain the AEW Women's World Championship.

The Lucha Brothers defeated The Young Bucks in a Steel Cage Match to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

Ruby Soho won the Casino Battle Royale (by last eliminating Thunder Rosa) to earn a shot at the AEW Women's World Championship.

Chris Jericho defeated MJF via submission in "The Final Fight", so his AEW in-ring career will continue; after the match, Jericho celebrated with The Inner Circle.

CM Punk returned to the ring for the first time in seven years and defeated Darby Allin, much to the Chicago crowd's delight. Punk shook hands with Allin and Sting after the match.

Paul Wight made his AEW in-ring debut and defeated QT Marshall despite some interference from The Factory.

Kenny Omega retained the AEW World Championship against Christian Cage thanks to some interference from Don Callis and The Good Brothers.

After the match, Omega bragged about how nobody can beat him, no matter where they're from, and Adam Cole subsequently made his AEW debut. After a brief "confrontation" with Omega, Cole superkicked Jungle Boy and aligned with The Super Elite.

Omega then prepared to send the fans home happy by saying "Goodbye and Goodnight," but "Flight of the Valkyries" signalled Bryan Danielson's arrival in AEW. The former WWE Champion came to the ring and teamed up with Cage and Jurassic Express to brawl with The Elite to close the show.

September 5, 2021: 2:48 a.m. EST

Tony Khan finally makes it back to his hotel room. To say he is wired would be an understatement. Everything that happened at AEW All Out was more than two years in the making; it all led to this, and before he even worries about what comes next, he just wants to take a moment to soak it all in.

After all, he has done the unthinkable, hasn't he? His company, not WWE, is the talk of the wrestling world, more so by the week. Again and again, the tweets come pouring in. "AEW is making wrestling fun again!" "Thanks to AEW, I love wrestling again." And now, tonight, the company upped its game. "AEW All Out was the best pay-per-view ever!" "That ending will never be topped!"

Khan smiles to himself; it all feels like a dream, but it's real. And with that reality comes more pressure. With that reality comes less margin for error, yet more room for criticism. Even now, he can see it, the WWE loyalists and/or the AEW doubters who are saying that this company is nothing more than WCW 2.0 or, perhaps worse, the next TNA. "They're signing too many WWE guys." "Look at that, they had WWE guys in their two main events." "AEW owes all of the hype to WWE; they built Adam Cole and Danel Bryan into huge stars." These thoughts are racing like a runaway train in Khan's head.

He stops himself. There will always be doubters, just as there will always be the pressure to succeed and, in some circles, the certainty that AEW will fail. So what does Khan do with these thoughts? He grabs them and places them in the palm of his hand, acknowledging them, aware of their (as of yet) undying existence. But he doesn't let them get to him; no, he makes note of them and keeps them close, determined to continue doing what AEW does best.

Doing everything "they" said AEW couldn't.

Proving the doubters wrong.

Changing the game.

Tipping the balance of power and showing everyone what it truly means to be "Elite."

The Butcher To Return To The Ring On 9/8 AEW Dynamite

On the heels of a historic All Out, AEW will look to pick up where the event left off with Dynamite on Wednesday night. In addition to the previously announced matches, AEW has confirmed that The Butcher, fresh off his return at All Out, will be in action on Wednesday in a tag team match with The Blade. Their opponents wil be none other than Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor, so it's clear that Cassidy's feud with the Hardy Family Office isn't over yet. In an online exclusive taped after All Out, Matt Hardy bragged about The Butcher's return and noted that they had put pen to paper to maintain his services in H.F.O., despite his fairly lengthy absence. With the crowning of new AEW World Tag Team Champions on Sunday night, The Butcher and The Blade will surely be hoping to kick off their comeback tour by notching one in the win column.

Plus, in a slightly less specific announcement, AEW hyped up the stunning conclusion to All Out. In a brief teaser for Dynamite, AEW wrote that this ending "changed the game," and Dynamite will offer a look at the new lay of the land. This statement would seem to suggest that fans will hear from Bryan Danielson and/or Adam Cole, live on the show, following their debuts on Sunday night.

Likewise, the company announced that Chris Jericho will appear live on the show, following his triumphant night at All Out. Due to his win over MJF, Jericho's AEW in-ring career will continue, though it's unclear what's next for the former AEW World Champion and The Inner Circle as a whole.

Speaking of The Inner Circle, Dynamite will also feature a potential main event bout for the tag division, as Santana and Ortiz will face Jurassic Express in a battle between the pair of top ranked duos now that the Young Bucks have been dethroned. The Lucha Bros have made it clear that they'll be fighting champions, so fans could see the winner of this bout challenge for the gold sooner rather than later....

Finally, AEW general manager also booked a match between Thunder Rosa and Nyla Rose for Dynamite on Wednesday; Rose had the most eliminations in the Casino Battle Royale, while Rosa was the runner-up to the winner of the bout, Ruby Soho. It's safe to say both Rose, a former AEW Women's World Champion, and Rosa, who still holds her unforgettable victory in the Lights Out Match against Britt Baker over the champion, will look to prove why they deserve a title shot despite their inability to win the Battle Royale.

Updated Match Card:

  • Jon Moxley vs. Minoru Suzuki
  • Malakai Black vs. Dustin Rhodes
  • Thunder Rosa vs. Nyla Rose
  • Jurassic Express vs. Santana and Ortiz

Sorry buddy and hate being “that guy” but is there any chance you could sort out the formatting of the pics? The sizing is all over the place and dragging the text all over the place which is really hard to read on my mobile? I know it’s being picky, but I really enjoy reading people’s takes on AEW and this is just hard to read.
