Week 1, May, 2013

Live from Soundstage 21 in Orlando, Florida

Attendance:1.137

Announcers: Mike Tenay and Taz

y9jDfy3s.jpg

Impact opens up with the new owner of TNA Wrestling, Eric Bischoff, coming down to the ring to address the recent news as Mike Tenay says on commentary that he can't wait to hear what Bischoff has to say. Once in the ring, Bischoff confirms that he is the new owner, but before he can talk too much about what that means for the future of TNA he is interrupted as the Aces and Eights music starts playing through the arena and Bully Ray leads the entire group, with the exception of Taz who remains at the commentary table, down to the ring.

EYHwiahs.jpg8YU7zdBs.jpgIo2DFMFs.jpgGqVsxLfs.jpgO9Y7EQas.jpgiMecyR4s.jpg8H8bRn1s.jpgWuRKaALs.jpg

Bully Ray gets into the ring while the rest of the group spreads out and surrounds the ring, making Bischoff look rather uncomfortable in the ring. The leader of the Aces & Eights and the reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion congratulates Bischoff on buying TNA, but he quickly adds that it really doesn't matter whose name is on a piece of paper because the Aces & Eights are running TNA and that's never gonna change. Bully tells Bischoff that he can either be his best friend or his worst enemy, and Bischoff doesn't want Bully for an enemy because being his enemy tends to be bad for that person's health. Bischoff seems to be considering exactly how to deal with this intense situation, but then suddenly....(58)

4UJwwICs.jpg

The familiar music of Hulk Hogan hits and "The Immortal One" himself makes his way out from the back.

Hogan makes his way down to ringside where he comes face to face with Mr. Anderson. After a brief but intense staredown, Anderson steps aside and allows Hogan to enter the ring. Hogan tells Bully to shut his damn mouth for once. Hogan says that Bischoff bought TNA fair and square and he wasn't about to stay in the back and watch Bully Ray threaten Bischoff. Hogan says that Bully thinks he runs this place, and has thought that for a while now, but the fact is, brother, that Bully Ray and the Aces & Eights don't run a damn thing around here! Bully Ray then gets in Hogan's face and asks if Hogan would like to test that theory, and just when it looks like the other members of Aces & Eights are about to enter the ring for a beatdown....(60)

XPbwNMds.jpg

Sting's music hits and Mike Tenay notes that "The Icon" has seen enough as Sting makes his way down to the ring as well. Sting says that he isn't out here to talk, he's out here to get things done. Sting suggests that since Eric Bischoff seems to be having problems with the Aces & Eights, how about he put Bully Ray in a World Title match at Sacrifice...against The Stinger!?! Bischoff agrees and it looks like it's Bully Ray versus Sting at Victory Road for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, despite Bully Ray's objections!

As Bully Ray leaves the ring and heads back up the entrance ramp with the rest of Aces & Eights, Taz can be heard on commentary saying that this is an outrageous abuse of power by Eric Bischoff! (72)

kJMlbVps.jpg9UjEJmus.jpg

Following that lengthy opening segment we cut to the backstage area where Christy Hemme is standing by with Bobby Roode, who faces AJ Styles later tonight in the TNA World Heavyweight Championship number one contender's tournament. Christy asks Roode about the match and Roode says that he was born to be a champion and him becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Champion once again is long overdue. Christy asks Roode about facing AJ Styles, and Roode says that it doesn't matter who is put in front of him because he's going to be better than every single one of them. Roode does acknowledge that beating AJ won't be easy, but Roode says that he will get it done and that nothing is going to keep him from the TNA World Championship. (48)

As we cut back to ringside, Mike Tenay explains that the number one contendership tournament will feature eight competitors, and that the winner of the tournament will receive a World Title shot at Slammaversary.

aMYPHjYs.jpgiftyUfzs.jpgvs.48yd7Gis.jpgbjUDGTXs.jpg

We then get our first in-ring action of the night as Bad Influence take on the makeshift team of Gunner and Shark Boy in tag team action. Daniels and Kazarian control most of this match, with Gunner and Shark Boy getting a few hope spots in here and there, but in the end Bad Influence is a much more experienced tag team and it shows. The match ends when Daniels hits the BME on Gunner for the three count and the win.

Bad Influence defeated Gunner and Shark Boy at 5:37 by pinfall when Daniels pinned Gunner with the BME (48)

BZnh9gis.jpg

As Bad Influence are celebrating their victory in the ring, Jeff Jarrett's music hits and Jarrett makes his way out from the back. Jarrett enters the ring and congratulates Daniels and Kazarian on their win, and then Jarrett gets on the mic and says that guys like himself, Daniels and Kazarian are the true backbone of TNA. He says that they were here long before Hogan and Bischoff and everything else and they are the reason TNA made it big. Jarrett says that they are the originals, and he suggests that they watch each other's backs to make sure that they get the respect they deserve. Daniels and Kazarian agree and join forces with Jarrett to officially form The Originals. (46)

kJMlbVps.jpgGQYxEKxs.jpgwD0WBZ8s.jpg

We cut to the back where Christy Hemme is standing by with the TNA Knockouts Champion, Velvet Sky, for an interview. The interview never really gets going, however, before Tara shows up and attacks Velvet. Tara beats Velvet down and then she tells Velvet that her days as champion are numbered because she is coming for the Knockouts Title. As Tara walks off, Christy checks on Velvet as we cut back to ringside. (37)

a6tvjUEs.jpg417FNxJs.jpgoqPPqEus.jpgvs.xPT9tVhs.jpgdh7AdcTs.jpgja5tuzOs.jpg

Six man tag team action is up next as The BroMans team up with Jay Bradley to take on the TNA Tag Team Champions, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez, and Chris Sabin. Chavo takes a bit of a beating early on in this one as the heel trio manage to isolate him, but Chavo soon fights back and makes the tag to Sabin, who gains control of the match for his team. As Sabin tags in Hernandez, all hell breaks loose and all six men are fighting it out. During the brawl, Hernandez shows off his incredible strength as he hits the Border Toss on Jay Bradley and gets the three count to secure the win for his team.

Hernandez, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Chris Sabin defeated Jay Bradley and The BroMans at 7:06 when Hernandez pinned Bradley following a Border Toss (42)

y9jDfy3s.jpg4UJwwICs.jpg

We cut backstage to Eric Bischoff's office where Bischoff and Hogan are talking. Hogan says that Bischoff might just have bought himself a whole lot of trouble by buying TNA because he doesn't think Bully Ray and the Aces & Eights are going to back down. Bischoff says that TNA belongs to him now and one way or another, he'll figure out a way to deal with the Aces & Eights. Hogan tells Bischoff that he hopes he knows what he's doing, but he also promises to be here for Eric to help him out if he needs it. (58)

TNA Television Title

Io2DFMFs.jpgw/GqVsxLfs.jpgvs.k0cCvtbs.jpg

The Television Title is on the line next as Devon defends against Eric Young. Young is up against the odds here with D.O.C. at ringside, and his presence soon serves as a distraction for Young, which allows Devon to take control of the match. Devon does what he can to stay on Young and keep him down, but Eric Young shows a lot of heart as he fights back and takes the fight to Devon, scoring a near-fall with an inside cradle. In the end the numbers game does eventually catch up to Young as Devon keeps the referee's attention long enough for D.O.C. to enter the ring and nail Young with a running boot that almost takes Young's head off! Devon could probably pin Young right there and then, but he still hits the Saving Grace as the exclamation point before pinning Young to retain his Title.

Devon defeated Eric Young at 7:43 by pinfall with a Saving Grace following interference from D.O.C. Devon retains the Television Title (44)

Devon and D.O.C. celebrate in the ring as Taz praises Devon on commentary, saying that Devon did the Brotherhood proud here tonight.

8eiV8l8s.jpg

Kurt Angle's music hits and Angle makes his way down to the ring looking as intense as ever. Once in the ring, Angle says that he's been trying and trying to get answers from AJ Styles, but AJ continues to refuse to give them. Angle says that he has no intention of backing down, however, and if he has to go through this entire Number One Contender tournament to get face to face with AJ Styles...then that's exactly what he's going to do--in fact, Angle vows to be the one to win the tournament and not only that, but he vows to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship when he gets his opportunity.

fuRYG0hs.jpg

Angle is then interrupted, not by AJ Styles, but by Samoa Joe, who marches down to the ring and stares Angle down. Joe says that Angle should be careful about the vows and promises he makes because he's looking at his opponent next week in the tournament! Joe says that nobody is hungrier than he is for a shot at the Title and no one, not even Kurt Angle, is going to stand in his way. Joe advices Angle to forget about AJ Styles and start worrying about Samoa Joe instead! Angle offers to shake Joe's hand in a show of respect, but Joe just glares at him and then walks off as Mike Tenay hypes up the fact that this HUGE match will take place next week on Impact! (62)

3Q9pXKgs.jpgtvhBGpws.jpg

Jeremy Borash is backstage with James Storm, who JB notes is another of the competitors in the Number One Contender's tournament, and JB asks, after hearing from several of the other competitors already, what Storm's thoughts are on the tournament. Storm says that he has been listening to what everyone has to say, but Storm says that if anyone is making it through the tournament, it's him. So to everyone else who thinks they've got a shot...well, Sorry about your damn luck! (46)

qJ6MT2Ys.jpg

Before the next match the TNA X-Division Champion, Kenny King, makes his way down to ringside as, apparently, he wants to get a closer look at the three men who will be competing for a shot at his Championship.

TNA X-Division Championship Number One Contender's Match

rf4GbUKs.jpgvs.2JaIlf7s.jpgvs.hUSH896s.jpg

The action is all over the place in this one as all three men battle hard to earn a shot at the X-Division Championship, and we see more than a few impressive high-flying moves. Each man gets their moment to shine, but as the match progresses it becomes more and more clear that Jeff Hardy is a step ahead of both Petey Williams and Christian York, but every time Hardy closes in on a three count, it gets broken up, which Mike Tenay says is one of the challenges of a three way match-up. That means that it takes a little longer to get there, but "The Charismatic Enigma" does eventually get to where he wants to go as he hits the Twist of Fate on Christian York and pins him for the three count while Petey Williams is down and out on the floor outside the ring.

Jeff Hardy defeated Christian York and Petey Williams at 11:01 by pinfall when Hardy pinned York with a Twist of Fate. Jeff Hardy earns a shot at the TNA X-Division Championship (59)

As Hardy celebrates in the ring, Kenny King slowly makes his way back up the entrance ramp, looking none too pleased about the prospect of having to defend his X-Division Championship against as accomplished a competitor as Jeff Hardy.

y9jDfy3s.jpgXPbwNMds.jpg

Eric Bischoff is still backstage in his office and this time he is visited by "The Icon" Sting, who says that he wants a little heart to heart with the new owner of TNA. Sting tells Bischoff that he is choosing to trust him, perhaps a little bit against his better judgment, and to trust that Bischoff will do right by TNA now that he's the owner. Bischoff says he has every intention of doing just that, and Sting says that as long as that remains true, Eric can count on his help against the Aces & Eights and anyone else who wish to harm TNA. (61)

TNA World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender's Tournament Match

9UjEJmus.jpgvs.010IsBGs.jpg

It is main event time and it is a high stakes main event at that as Bobby Roode and AJ Styles square off in the Number One Contender's tournament. Mike Tenay wonders just what is going on in the head of AJ Styles these days, and Taz says that AJ would agree to join the Aces & Eights if he knew what was good for him. This is a back and forth match that eventually spills out of the ring where Roode whips AJ first into the guard rail and then into the ring post. Back in the ring, Roode gets a two count and argues with the referee that it was a three, even though Mike Tenay says that it was clearly only a two count. AJ fights back with some hard punches and kicks and he nails Roode with a fireman's carry facebuster. It looks like Roode is in trouble but as AJ pulls him back to his feet, Roode uses the opportunity to hit a low blow which the referee somehow misses. Roode takes a moment to enjoy his actions by taunting the fans, but this proves to be a mistake as Styles performs a roll-through and locks in the Calf Killer! Styles ruthlessly applies more and more pressure until Roode has no choice but to tap out!

AJ Styles defeated Bobby Roode at 14:30 by submission with the Calf Killer. AJ Styles advances in the Number One Contender's Tournament (67)

The referee tries to raise AJ's hand in victory, but AJ is having none of that. Instead, Impact comes to an end with a shot of "The Lone Wolf" AJ Styles, rather fittingly, standing alone and victorious in the ring.

Final Show Rating: 66

TV Rating: 1.58 (1.185.586 viewers)

This show increased popularity

Great first show :) I always thought Aces & Eights had potential but if I recall correctly, they fizzed out in an underwhelming way and Bully Ray only put over Chris Sabin who didn't really need it... but Lone Wolf AJ was really cool I thought and I'm excited to see what happens when he crosses paths with the numbers game of Aces & Eights.

Week 2, May, 2013

Live from Soundstage 21 in Orlando, Florida

Attendance: 1.363

Impact kicks off with the Aces & Eights music playing as Bully Ray leads the rest of the group down to the ring while Taz sings the praises of the TNA World Heavyweight Champion on commentary. Bully Ray gets on the mic and says that Eric Bischoff made a big mistake last week by turning down his friendship and by booking him in a World Title match against Sting. Bully says that Bischoff's plans are going to fail and blow up in his face because he's going up against the unbeatable. Bully then says that once he beats Sting at Sacrifice, Bischoff will realize just how dominant the Aces & Eights truly are because Bully's brother, Mr. Anderson, will make it thorugh the number one contender tournament and then both Champion and Number One Contender will be part of Aces & Eights. Bully then hands the mic to Mr. Anderson, who tells his opponent tonight, James Storm, that he's not going to be sorry about Storm's damn luck when he beats him tonight because luck will have nothing to do with it. Anderson vows to make Storm "cry like the little b!tch that he is". Bully then gets back on the mic and reminds everyone that he is Bully Ray, he is the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and the Aces & Eights rule TNA! (72)

kJMlbVps.jpgBZnh9gis.jpgaMYPHjYs.jpgiftyUfzs.jpg

We cut to the backstage area where Christy Hemme is standing by with The Originals, Jeff Jarrett, Christopher Daniels and Kazarian. Christy asks them about their decision to team up last week and Jarrett says that for too long he has been forced to watch the people who built TNA with their own blood, sweat and tears--people like himself, like Daniels and Kazarian--being pushed into the background and shown nothing but disrespect at every turn. But the three of them together are going to change that. Jarrett says that TNA wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't for their contributions, and they are not done making their mark on this company. Just as the interview is coming to an end, Daniels and Kazarian make it clear that they are going to make their mark on TNA tonight, which leaves Tenay and Taz to speculate just how they are planning to do that? The TNA Tag Team Champions are in action next as they take on The BroMans in a non-title match, and Mike Tenay suggests that The BroMans could put themselves squarely in the hunt for the Tag Team Titles by picking up a win here tonight. That doesn't happen, however, though they do put up a decent fight, as the Champions seem to be one step ahead for most of the match. In the end, Hernandez hits the Border Toss on Robbie E before quickly tagging Chavo in, and then Hernandez takes out Jesse Godderz in the corner while Chavo climbs to the top rope and hits the Frog Splash for the three count and the win.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez defeated The BroMans at 6:26 by pinfall when Chavo pinned Robbie E with a Frog Splash (44)

We don't have to wait long to find out what Daniels and Kazarian meant about making their mark tonight. As Chavo and Hernandez celebrate in the ring, Bad Influence sneaks in from behind and attacks the Champions! A swift beatdown ensues until...

Chris Sabin and the returning Alex Shelley run down to make the save for the Champions. The Motor City Machine Guns are back and reunited here on Impact!!! (39)

Another non-title match is up next as the Knockouts Champion, Velvet Sky, takes on Tara. Tara starts out aggressively in this one as Mike Tenay talks about how Tara attacked Velvet Sky during an interview last week, and Taz adds that that's how you do it if you want to make in this business and Tara knows that as well as anybody. Tara dominates a good portion of this match, with Velvet doing her best to stay with Tara and showing the heart of a true Champion, and making Tara grow increasingly frustrated at her inability to put Velvet away. Velvet catches Tara by surprise with a roll-up and almost scores the three count, but Tara kicks out just before the three and then she levels Velvet with a clothesline.

Gail Kim then makes her way down to the ring as Tara throws Velvet out of the ring. With the referee distracted by Tara, Gail Kim drives Velvet back-first into the side of the ring and then rolls her back into the ring. Tara then immediately hits the Widow's Peak and covers Velvet for the one, two, three! Tara just pinned the Knockouts Champion!

Tara and Gail Kim continue their two on one beatdown on Velvet Sky after the match. Before they can do too much damage, however, Mickie James runs down to make the save for the Knockouts Champion. A staredown then ensues between Velvet and Mickie in the ring, and Tara and Gail Kim on the entrance ramp. (35)

We cut to the backstage area where Samoa Joe stands alone, facing the camera with an intense look on his face. Joe says that he's got his eyes on the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and he's not letting anyone stand in his way. Joe says that tonight is just his first step on his way to the World Title, and he vows that tonight he's gonna make Kurt Angle tap out in the middle of the ring! (45)

Last week on Impact, Jeff Hardy became the number one contender to the X-Division Championship by pinning Christian York in a three way match that also included Hardy's opponent tonight, Petey Williams. Hardy looks good here as he takes the fight to Petey, but Petey gets his shots in as well and it looks like we are on our way to seeing a great match here, but unfortunately it is cut short as...

qJ6MT2Ys.jpg

The X-Division Champion, Kenny King, suddenly hits the ring and attacks Hardy, leaving the referee with no choice but to call for the disqualification.

Jeff Hardy defeated Petey Williams at 4:55 by disqualification when Kenny King attacked Hardy (63)

Kenny King continues his attack even as the bell rings repeatedly, but Hardy is able to fight him off and Jeff almost hits the Twist of Fate, but King is able to escape before Hardy can drop him. As King retreats back up the ramp, Hardy reminds him that he was THIS close to hitting the Twist of Fate and from the looks of it, as Mike Tenay says, it looks like Hardy is getting into the head of the TNA X-Division Champion. (51)

kJMlbVps.jpg8eiV8l8s.jpg

Christy Hemme is backstage with Kurt Angle and she asks him about his match against Samoa Joe tonight. Kurt says that he and Joe have had some amazing battles in the past and he expects tonight to be no different. Kurt says that Joe is as tough as they come, but Kurt is more determined than ever to reclaim the World Title and that means he has to go through Joe here tonight, so that's exactly what he's going to do--it's real, it's damn real! TNA World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender's Tournament Match

tvhBGpws.jpgvs.8YU7zdBs.jpg

This match quickly spills outside the ring as Anderson tries to take the fight to James Storm, with Taz cheering his Aces & Eights brother on from his spot at the commentary team, while Mike Tenay reminds Taz that James Storm is no stranger to brawls like this one. Almost as if on cue, Storm begins to take the fight to Anderson, throwing him back-first into the steel steps as Taz complains that the referee should disqualify Storm for that. Back in the ring Anderson hits a low blow which the referee misses completely, and Taz of course applauds this move by his "brother". Anderson takes a little too much time badmouthing Storm, however, and Storm again fights back, rocking Anderson's jaw with rights and lefts.

Io2DFMFs.jpgiMecyR4s.jpg

Devon and Knux make their way down to ringside and it's not long before they use the numbers game to their advantage as Devon distracts the referee while Knux drives Storm to the floor of the ring with a huge spinebuster. Anderson immediately takes advantage of the assist and hits the Mic Check for the three count and the victory in true Aces & Eights fashion.

Mr. Anderson defeated James Storm at 10:18 by pinfall with a Mic Check following interference by Devon and Knux. Anderson advances in the Number One Contender's Tournament (52)

Hulk Hogan slowly makes his way down to the ring for a promo. Hogan says that Bully Ray and the rest of the Aces & Eights are wrong when they say that they run TNA, brother. Hogan says that he is out here to make announcement and that announcement is that next week on Impact, the official contract signing between Bully Ray and Sting will take place for their World Title match at Sacrifice.

EYHwiahs.jpg

It seemed as though Hogan had more to say, but he is interrupted by Bully Ray who comes out from the back and stands at the top of the entrance ramp. Bully says that it's Hogan and Bischoff who are wrong because no matter what they do, they can't take the World Title away from him and THAT is true power, the kind of power that can't be bought with money. Bully then says that maybe it's high time that he took care of Hogan once and for all, but before Bully can call the troops out from the back...

XPbwNMds.jpg

"The Icon" Sting makes his way through the crowd and into the ring, and he stands side by side with Hogan in the ring, baseball bat in hand. The arrival of Sting causes Bully to reconsider his plans, and instead of attacking he simply gets back on the mic and tells both Sting and Hogan that their days are numbered and it's only a matter of time before the Aces & Eights take them out for good! (68)

010IsBGs.jpg

As Sting and Hogan begin to leave the ring the camera suddenly spots something, or rather someone, standing high up in the rafters and it's AJ Styles, who is silently overlooking the ring and the confrontation that just took place, leaving both Tenay and Taz to once again speculate just what is going on with AJ Styles?!? (68)

It is almost main event time but first we swing by the announce table where Mike Tenay and Taz hype up that very match as Kurt Angle is about to go one on one with Samoa Joe. Tenay calls this a huge match between two men who know each other very well at this point, and even Taz agrees that this is a huge match--but Anderson is still going to win it all. (51)

There is no feeling out process in this one as Samoa Joe goes straight on the attack, driving Angle into the corner and beating him down. Angle is able to escape through Joe's legs and he pops up behind him and hits a german suplex. Joe gets right back up and the two men lock eyes for a stand-off as Mike Tenay says that both men look to be on their A-game here tonight. From here the match slows down a bit and it goes back and forth, with both men having their stints of dominance, but neither man can maintain the advantage for too long and neither can put the other away. Despite this being a match with a lot of intensity, it never gets dirty as both men clearly have a lot of respect for each other, but both men are also putting it all on the line to advance in the tournament. As the match progresses, Angle continiously tries to apply the Ankle Lock, but every time he goes for it, Joe realizes what's happening and he manages to keep Angle from applying his painful submission hold. Conversely, the same pattern emerges whenever Joe tries to lock Angle in the Coquina Clutch; Angle always senses it coming just in time to avoid it. Mike Tenay puts this down to the two men knowing each other so well, so a submission victory might be out of the question for either man here. In the end, after not one but two Angle Slams, Kurt Angle drapes a single, exhausted arm across Samoa Joe's chest and it's one, two, three!

Kurt Angle defeated Samoa Joe at 18:56 by pinfall with two consecutive Angle Slams. Angle advances in the Number One Contender Tournament (63)

And with a shot of an exhausted Kurt Angle getting his hand raised in victory, this week's edition of TNA Impact comes to an end.

Missed the first round of predictions but always was a TNA guy over WWE so always love these dynasties.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you around!

Non-Title Match

Velvet Sky vs. Tara

Comment: I don't like the champions losing non title matches but it seems appropriate here.

I fully agree with you in general about Champions not losing Non-Title matches too often. I feel like that's a mistake that WWE is especially guilty of. A Champion should be the best and thus shouldn't lose often, and it should be a big deal when they do lose.

TNA World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contender's Tournament Match

Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe

Comment: Angle isn't a bad idea either but I think Joe's the safer call here.

I went back and forth a fair bit on this one. Angle is in pretty rough shape at this point with his various issues, but Joe has suffered due to poor booking so I felt he needed a little bit more of a rebuild before he was ready for the big one again.
