Nightmare stormed back into the contest, eventually landing both The Sickle and the Siberian Avalanche, to finally claim his first win of the campaign. The Siberian Nightmare (1-4) def. Sin (1-4) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 13:10. Rating: *** Changes for The Siberian Nightmare: OVR + 5.37, XP + 526.85, minor damage to head Changes for Sin: OVR + 0.74, XP + 131.71, minor damage to head Sterling Silver (1-3, OVR 406) vs. Otto von Schwarz (0-4, OVR 401) DELTA DIVISION LAST ONE STANDING MATCH Despite this being a gimmick match, it was a step down from the opening bout. A decent bout between two people in the lower half of the Delta Division, this one saw the giant Otto von Schwarz fail to capitalize on the size advantage, and succumb to Silver’s 450 splash to have the wind knocked out of him—what little he had left, anyway—for the full ten count. Sterling Silver (2-3) def. Otto von Schwarz (0-5) via Last One Standing (On Wings of Silver) in 12:23. Aside from about three minutes of a hope spot from Rose, this was all Ouilette. A second Le Petit Mort was all that was needed to put Rose down for a three count in a match that never left the ring at all. Jean-Paul Ouilette (2-3) def. Indigo Rose (1-4) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 14:34. Gibson controlled this one for the majority, and wasn’t dangerously close to being taken down. Diego was not so fortunate, and the match ended abruptly after a spinning elbow blow from Gibson. Just past the ten-minute mark, and with just enough fight from Angela to keep it from being a total squash, this was over. Mel O'Hallister (3-2) def. This was back-and-forth throughout, with neither man wanting to back down an inch. The clincher in this turned out to be Pulsar gassing himself out with too many lucha-inspired attacks, allowing a less-exhausted Gross to press the advantage when he needed it at the end of the match and notch his second victory of the campaign via submission just before the twelve-minute mark. Weathers wanted one to keep pace with division leader Brandy McDonald. Nuclear needed this one to avoid being near bottom of the division this early in the season. A close match that could have gone either way, but eventually won via submission as Nuclear trapped Weathers and choked him out, only releasing after the bell on a four-count. Nuclear Templeton (2-3) def. Big Scott Weathers (2-3) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 16:34. Rating: ** Changes for Nuclear Templeton: OVR + 4.34, XP + 731.93, minor damage to head Changes for Big Scott Weathers: OVR -0.08, XP + 182.98, minor damage to head De'siree Mitchell (2-2, OVR 411) vs. George Mastachas (2-2, OVR 406) ALPHA DIVISION Another hard-hitting affair in the top flight, this one saw Mitchell claw her way back into contention after being in trouble early, but ultimately it was in vain. Mastachas learned from his first attempt at the Wrath of Zeus—which Mitchell slid out of the back of and nearly got a three from the counter—to not miss with the second right after Mitchell missed with an All Out Blitz. Mastachas improves to a winning record and now looks to see if the division leader stumbles in her match still to come. George Mastachas (3-2) def. De'siree Mitchell (2-3) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 18:50. Rating: ** Changes for George Mastachas: OVR + 4.47, XP + 733.56, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body Changes for De'siree Mitchell: OVR -0.08, XP + 183.39, minor damage to head Blood River (3-1, OVR 412) vs. El Tornado (2-2, OVR 409) GAMMA DIVISION The Gamma Division’s newly-minted leader waster no time tonight, surprising Tornado with his own tactics. For once, Tornado suffered the brunt of a high-speed offense, and the resident cultist managed to put the luchador away in just under nine minutes with his top rope rana finisher that he had yet to hit with this season. Pressure’s on Yoshii Nakamatsu to keep pace, coming up next. Blood River (4-1) def. El Tornado (2-3) via Pinfall (The Offering) in 8:51. Rating: ** Changes for Blood River: OVR + 3.90, XP + 556.89, no notable damage Changes for El Tornado: OVR -0.07, XP + 139.22, minor damage to head Jun Onoo (2-2, OVR 411) vs. Yoshii Nakamatsu (3-1, OVR 413) GAMMA DIVISION Onoo started this match as if Nakamatsu owed him money, beating Yoshii from corner to corner for the first five minutes of the contest. Nakamatsu weathered the storm, though, and fought back over the next few minutes while Onoo struggled to catch his breath. A trio of missed Emperor’s Fall attempts finally got Onoo back into the contest, and when Lasting Agony failed to notch a submission, the IMPACT Driver did not fail. Onoo earns the minor upset, and Blood River now has the outright lead in the Gamma Division heading into week six. This ended up being a Match of the Night contender. Jun Onoo (3-2) def. Yoshii Nakamatsu (3-2) via Pinfall (IMPACT Driver) in 13:53. However, for a fair portion of the middle of the match he played into Clay’s hands, trying to beat the cruiserweight at his own game by trying to utilize the Working Man’s Dropkick. Clay was having none of it, thwarting it three times in a row and putting Simmons in danger with his own high-risk assault. However, Simmons’ workhorse mentality shone through in the end, managing to stun Clay long enough to apply the ankle lock for the submission and to keep the pressure on the Beta Division leader. Daniel Simmons (4-1) def. Markus Clay (2-3) via Submission (Quitting Time) in 10:37. Rating: *** Changes for Daniel Simmons: OVR + 5.18, XP + 683.18, minor damage to head Changes for Markus Clay: OVR + 0.72, XP + 170.79, minor damage to head The Mastodon (2-2, OVR 407) vs. Brandy McDonald (4-0, OVR 418) ALPHA DIVISION In the days leading up to this match, Mastodon made it clear to anyone who would listen. It doesn’t matter what the record is, who they are, or how invincible they seem to be, he was going to surprise the world this week. Sounds like a lot of bluster, doesn’t it? Not when you back it up. Sure, McDonald hit Brandy with a Twist early on…but that only served to rile the big man. She would not hit it a second time, as Mastodon used his adrenaline rush to wear down McDonald with a pair of Cull the Weak press slams that eventually opened the door for a Rampage lariat, a three-count, and hope for the remainder of the Alpha Division that this race was not over just five weeks into the season. The Mastodon (3-2) def. Brandy McDonald (4-1) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 22:41. Rating: ** Changes for The Mastodon: OVR + 4.69, XP + 736.33, moderate damage to head Changes for Brandy McDonald: OVR -0.08, XP + 184.08, minor damage to body Terrance Stevens (2-2, OVR 411) vs. Billy Norris (4-0, OVR 418) BETA DIVISION Regardless of the outcome, Norris was assured of leaving week five with the Beta Division lead. The only question was whether it would be outright, or via head-to-head tiebreaker. Despite Stevens’ best efforts—he controlled the majority of the match, in fact—Norris would not be denied, and ensures that at least one person heads into week six of The League with a perfect record intact. Billy Norris (5-0) def. Terrance Stevens (2-3) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 14:21. Rating: ** Changes for Billy Norris: OVR + 4.21, XP + 632.95, minor damage to head Changes for Terrance Stevens: OVR -0.07, XP + 158.24, minor damage to head Sven Ulafsson (3-1, OVR 413) vs. Christian Priest (4-0, OVR 417) DELTA DIVISION Our semi-main event of the evening—noted as such because Brian Blackfield is slightly more popular than Christian Priest instead of the fact that Priest actually leads the division—was barely enough for the home audience to grab some snacks and use the restroom before it ended. Priest wasted little time in battering Ulafsson down, eventually putting the larger man away with his Canonized right arm lariat, and ensuring that unless Brian Blackfield wins in about twenty seconds, Priest remains in the Delta Division lead with a perfect record heading into week six. Christian Priest (5-0) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-2) via Pinfall (Canonized) in 11:14. Rating: ** Changes for Christian Priest: OVR + 4.04, XP + 485.39, no notable damage Changes for Sven Ulafsson: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.35, minor damage to head Monty Dhillon (3-1, OVR 413) vs. Brian Blackfield (4-0, OVR 421) DELTA DIVISION Not for the first time this season, Blackfield faced a foe who was too large to be able to land the Scotland Destroyer on. So instead, he decided to use a way he’d used twice before to notch the win: attempt to bust his opponent open and force the ref to put a stop to the proceedings. To his credit, Dhillon did everything he could to prevent it, but his second attempt at the Empire Bomb connected and sent Blackfield into an adrenaline rush. By the time Blackfield came out of it, Dhillon was unable to muster enough offense at any juncture to challenge the Scot. It took 28 minutes to bust Dhillon open with a knee drop. It only two minutes after that for the ref to call off the match, earning Blackfield his third decision via blood loss stoppage. There will be three undefeated wrestlers entering week six of The League, with two of them scheduled to face each other for the lead of the Delta Division. Brian Blackfield (5-0) def. Von Schwarz had apparently learned from the last five weeks, though, and caught Sin with a roundhouse body punch into a pair of powerbombs. His finisher came right afterwards, and the giant finally claims his first win of the season six weeks in, and ensures that no one will finish with an 0-14 record after all. Otto von Schwarz (1-5) def. Sin (1-5) via Pinfall (Gute Nacht) in 13:40. Rose squandered away an early advantage, letting Wassermann back into the contest. A series of straight rights from top control forced Rose to try to escape, but she gave up her back and allowed the former MMA champion to rain down crossface blows and more punches, stunning Rose in the process. What followed then was Wassermann applying a stump puller, of all things. Rose struggled for about twenty seconds, looking for an escape, but Wassermann had a solid base and grasp, and Rose had no choice but to tap. Angela Wassermann (2-4) def. Indigo Rose (1-5) via Submission (stump puller) in 12:46. Both would hit their trademark moves—The Sickle for Nightmare, the Nordic Backbreaker for Ulafsson—but Ulafsson took enough damage to his back and ribs that he wasn’t able to fully execute Pure Power on Nightmare. The reverse was not true, and a Siberian Avalanche later, Nightmare emerged from this Match of the Night contender with an upset victory. The Siberian Nightmare (2-4) def. The only interesting part came after a reversed Irish whip knocked the referee out. Anarchy took this time with no rules to worry about to batter Gibson mercilessly, eventually dropping to a knee and uppercutting Gibson in the crotch. The ref was groggy as he made the count, and despite Karen McClure being…well, a Karen…at ringside, Anarchy won the match by Any Means Necessary. Jimmy Anarchy (2-4) def. Erick Gibson (3-3) via Pinfall (Any Means Necessary) in 9:52. It took darn near giving Weathers a concussion due to the numerous shots to the head before he was stunned long enough to let Mitchell connect with the All Out Blitz; on the fifth try she finally hit paydirt and collapsed into the cover to get out of week six with a hard-fought victory in the opening contest of the Alpha Division. De'siree Mitchell (3-3) def. Big Scott Weathers (2-4) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 16:46. Nuclear had barely let Gross get any offense in. But the Right Reverend fought back, avoiding Radiation Leaks and Armageddon Lariats on numerous occasions and even forcing Nuclear to Kneel Before God once. But Gross simply didn’t have the oomph to finish the job, and Nuclear finally caught Gross with a ripcord lariat that finally spelled an end to the match. Nuclear Templeton (3-3) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (2-4) via Pinfall (Armageddon Lariat) in 13:34. That wasn’t the case here. About ten minutes in, River drove Diego out of the ring with a blindside high knee, slipped a bit getting to the top rope, and that delay was enough for Rodriguez to avoid a diving clothesline. River landed hard on the floor, and from there the fight continued with two tables being broken—both by Diego driving his opponent into them—and a missed chair shot from River. Two Preludes to Dissonance finally set up the Harmony of Dissonance, and River had to tap out, being caught well in Rodriguez’s patented submission finisher. Diego Rodriguez (2-4) def. A powerbomb bridged into a pin was the difference maker here, and Mastodon keeps the pressure on the Alpha Division leader, Brandy McDonald, heading into her match later on in the show. A bit of a hard luck loss for Diamond, who by all other rights should have won well before then thanks to a spear…if not for the ref being groggy after getting run into two minutes prior. She seemed to feel it, too, as Mastachas got an early advantage and wore McDonald down. Twelve minutes in, Mastachas drilled Brandy with the Wrath of Zeus, but McDonald somehow got right shoulder up at 2.999 and the match continued. The kickout seemed to rattle Mastachas, and ten minutes (and several attempts) later, she hit Brandy with a Twist for the pin and to escape week six with a win she likely wouldn’t have had otherwise. The third time did the trick though, and Norris remains one of two men undefeated heading into the seventh week. The second would be decided in our main event, coming up next. Billy Norris (6-0) def. It was fairly even until about sixteen minutes deep, when Priest knocked Blackfield out of the air with a running forearm, and then caught him standing up with a Canonized lariat. That only woke Blackfield up. A Tartan Effect busted Priest open. A second two minutes later opened the wound further. By the time the adrenaline rush had faded, Priest was in deep trouble and facing a man with all the momentum in the match. Priest would attempt to fight back a few times, but all for naught. In the end, probably about five minutes later than should have been allowed, the referee called a stop to the match, and Brian Blackfield nets his fourth win this season via blood loss stoppage to emerge as the undisputer leader of the Delta Division going into week seven. Also, FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT: there will be two deadlines for training messages after Week 7. The first will be to have training applied before Tag Team Turmoil; the second will be the usual Week 8 deadline. I’m doing this because TTT is going to take longer to run—14 best-of-three-falls matches and the Iron Person finals—and I’d like to get the majority of that event run and written up before 11 November for purely personal reasons. (Those being the release of Tactics Ogre: Reborn and wanting to get stuck in during the last days of my week vacation from work.) With that said, we now return you to regularly scheduled programming. The loss of mental focus let von Schwarz get back into the contest, but after a missed Gute Nacht, Nightmare planted his opponent with a second Siberian Avalanche and that, along with a slightly fast count from the ref, was enough to net the pinfall in this opening contest. The Siberian Nightmare (3-4) def. Otto von Schwarz (1-6) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 15:12. It took four tries before the superkick connected, and the official’s slightly fast count didn’t help matters any as Stevens goes above .500 at the halfway point of the season. Rating: ** Changes for Terrance Stevens: OVR + 4.22, XP + 633.05, no notable damage Changes for Indigo Rose: OVR -0.07, XP + 158.26, minor damage to head Big Scott Weathers (2-4, OVR 410) vs. Reverend Johnny Gross (2-4, OVR 412) ALPHA DIVISION EUROPEAN RULES MATCH All of the action really started heating up near the end of the sixth round, when an attempted low blow from Gross was avoided by Weathers and somehow caught the referee instead. Weathers would use the opportunity to pummel Gross enough so that in the seventh, he could land the Blackout twice in the span of two minutes and net pinfalls off of each one. Gross had a chance to push Weathers into finisher territory but never managed to get it together before a round ended, and falls ever closer to the bottom of the top flight. Sin was the first one to weaken the opponent to a point to attempt a signature move. Unfortunately for her, Cast the Stone hit nothing and spelled her last bit of offense in the entire match. Dhillon would use his size advantage to end the fight three minutes later with a simple backbreaker drop. Monty Dhillon (5-2) def. Sin (1-6) via Pinfall (over shoulder backbreaker drop) in 10:36. Rating: ** Changes for Monty Dhillon: OVR + 4.00, XP + 485.09, no notable damage Changes for Sin: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.27, no notable damage George Mastachas (3-3, OVR 411) vs. Pulsar (2-4, OVR 409) ALPHA DIVISION Mastachas surprised a lot of folks by keeping up with Pulsar’s high-speed offense through the majority of the match. In fact, he had Pulsar’s penchant for springboard moves well-scouted as he was able to avoid a few sentons and splashes of this variety. Pulsar was just starting to show signs of exhaustion when he got caught in a sitout powerbomb and pinned to give Mastachas his fourth win of the season. George Mastachas (4-3) def. Pulsar (2-5) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 10:57. Rating: *** Changes for George Mastachas: OVR + 5.20, XP + 788.54, no notable damage Changes for Pulsar: OVR + 0.72, XP + 197.14, minor damage to head Markus Clay (2-4, OVR 411) vs. Jean-Paul Ouilette (3-3, OVR 416) BETA DIVISION TABLES MATCH This match went to the outside early and then stayed there for the remainder. Only one table got brought into play, by Ouilette, about eight minutes in. It did him no good, though, as Clay fought out of every DDT attempt made to put him through the table, and instead won the match with a DDT of his own to put Ouilette through the same table he introduced into the contest. Markus Clay (3-4) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (3-4) via Table Break (DDT) in 11:44. This was one of the instances where that did not hold true. True, Onoo did manage to apply Lasting Agony and that sapped a fair bit of stamina out of Rodriguez, but the Spaniard stuck to his gameplan and got the submission eventually with a heel hook on the much larger athlete. A fairly good match, all things considered, and a Match of the Night contender to boot. Diego Rodriguez (3-4) def. Jun Onoo (3-4) via Submission (Discordant Melody) in 15:35. Rating: *** Changes for Diego Rodriguez: OVR + 5.54, XP + 607.32, no notable damage Changes for Jun Onoo: OVR + 0.77, XP + 151.83, no notable damage Diamond (3-3, OVR 416) vs. Erick Gibson (3-3, OVR 413) GAMMA DIVISION A step down from the rest of the card so far, this was just as close as any other match had been. Diamond was unable to hit her swanton finisher, being shaken off the top rope by Gibson, and a later attempt at a cutter also went in vain. Gibson’s lone finisher attempt did not miss, and it is he who heads into the midway point with a winning record. Erick Gibson (4-3) def. Diamond (3-4) via Pinfall (Terminable Offense) in 14:15. The Nakamatsu loss means that Blood River now holds the outright lead in the Gamma Division after his victory earlier tonight. El Tornado (4-3) def. Nuclear did not get a chance to set up Mastodon for either of his finishers. Mastodon felt he had to prove a point to the League Original and dropped Nuclear with a single Rampage lariat. The three-count was academic and though these two may be teaming up next week, tensions are sure to run a little high between the pair in the next few days leading up to that event. A Boomerang DDT only netted two for the Aussie, and distracted by his anger and arguing with the ref, O’Hallister went low and nearly got DQed for it. He’d make a comeback, nearly catch Norris with a roll-up off a missed Down Under Disaster, and again almost notch the win with a spinning elbow blow. A snap DDT stunned Norris enough to let O’Hallister go behind, and ten seconds (and one finisher) later, it was Mel O’Hallister to put the first blemish on the record of Billy Norris, giving hope to the entire Beta Division that they still had a chance in the second half of the season. Ulafsson barely got any sustained offense in, while Blackfield hit no fewer than four Tartan Effects and a half-dozen DDT varieties before the ref had seen enough. Wassermann scored the first fall just over eleven minutes in with a spinning elbow blow, and Weathers was able to tag out soon after the restart to avoid eating a second straight fall. But he and Anarchy simply could not get back in the match, only lasting another twelve minutes before Weathers ate an All Out Blitz. With a decisive sweep, Wassermann and Mitchell advance. Angela Wassermann & De’siree Mitchell def. Big Scott Weathers & Jimmy Anarchy, two falls to none, in 22:50. Rating: ** Fall 1: Wassermann pins Weathers, spinning elboe blow, 11:04 Fall 2: Mitchell pins Weathers, All Out Blitz, 22:50 Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross vs. George Mastachas & Jun Onoo The record books will show this as a 2-0 sweep. In actuality, this was a 3-0 sweep, and wasn’t really in question after about twelve minutes in. Priest and Gross showed better teamwork throughout, while Onoo left his partner in the ring to take the brunt of the punishment. That would be their downfall, as Gross won the first fall by submission just shy of twenty minutes in. The second fall that was reversed came at twenty-five minutes in, when Mastachas was dropped by a spinning elbow blow, but the ref waved off the pinfall after seeing a foot on the ropes. A minute later, Gross made certain there were no further shenanigans as he submitted Mastachas again, staring a hole through Onoo in the process, to book a spot in the second round. Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross def. George Mastachas & Jun Onoo, two falls to none, in 26:16. Rating: *** Fall 1: Gross submits Mastachas, Come to Jesus, 19:38 Fall 2: Gross submits Mastachas, Come to Jesus, 26:16 Brandy McDonald & Diamond vs. Brian Blackfield & Monty Dhillon It’s only fitting that the first matchup with two PCs in it is the first one that went to a deciding third fall. Combined, McDonald and Diamond drove Blackfield out of the match by the six-minute mark, when Blackfield nearly ate a Jawjacker from Diamond. Dhillon came in, took advantage of a slightly winded Diamond, and scored the first fall after a backbreaker drop. Soon after, Diamond would make an escape to McDonald, and Brandy would keep her larger opponent from making the tag out on a few occasions. About eighteen minutes in, Dhillon had McDonald in trouble, but the smaller wrestler ducked the Livewire Lariat and made the hot tag to Diamond. Diamond would not squander the chance, beating down Dhillon and connecting with the 24 Karat Kiss to tie the match up at a fall apiece at just over the twenty-one-minute mark. Dhillon refused to tag out to Blackfield, who had been resting on the apron for the last fifteen minutes, and this stubbornness would be his undoing as just over a minute later, Diamond connected with a second 24 Karat Kiss and sent herself and McDonald into the second round of the tournament. Brandy McDonald & Diamond def. Brian Blackfield & Monty Dhillon, two falls to one, in 22:32. Rating: *** Fall 1: Dhillon pins Diamond, over shoulder backbreaker drop, 10:32 Fall 2: Diamond pins Dhillon, 24 Karat Kiss, 21:21 Fall 3: Diamond pins Dhillon, 24 Karat Kiss, 22:32 Billy Norris & Erick Gibson vs. Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon One of the best matches of the opening round. The tone was set early, as in six minutes early, when Nuclear scored the first fall of the match after blasting Gibson with an Armageddon Lariat. Gibson saw maybe thirty seconds of action after the restart, then tagged out to Norris and immediately fell to ringside to be tended to by Karen McClure. Norris would spend the next ten minutes breaking Nuclear down, slowly whittling away at the larger man’s stamina and energy until a quick Down Under Disaster connected to even the match up at just shy of nineteen minutes in. Soon after the restart, Nuclear would tag in Mastodon, who had had close to fifteen minutes to recover. Mastodon would push Norris to the brink, and kept the pressure up to prevent him from tagging out to Gibson (who had finally managed to get back onto the apron). A Rampage eventually sealed the deal, and the two Alpha Division competitors advanced into the second round. Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon def. Billy Norris & Erick Gibson, two falls to one, in 22:55. Rating: **** Fall 1: Nuclear pins Gibson, Armageddon Lariat, 6:27 Fall 2: Norris pins Nuclear, Down Under Disaster, 18:49 Fall 3: Mastodon pins Norris, Rampage, 22:55 Otto von Schwarz & Sven Ulafsson vs. Blood River & El Tornado This match set out to be better than the previous one, and some would argue that they did it. The first fall was a long one, taking just over twenty minutes before River notched the fall with a Crimson Regret on Ulafsson. Soon after the restart, Ulafsson got the tag out to von Schwarz, who dropped River with Gute Nacht to even the match just before the twenty-two-minute mark. The next seven minutes would see a few tags and exchanges, with the smaller team managing to escape Pure Power on about a half dozen occasions. In the end, it wouldn’t even be a finisher that sealed the match, as Tornado would land a springboard legdrop on Ulafsson to get the three, with Otto stumbling over the ropes a bit too slowly to make the save. The two masked men advance to the second round. Blood River & El Tornado def. Otto von Schwarz & Sven Ulafsson, two falls to one, in 28:57. Rating: **** Fall 1: River pins Ulafsson, Crimson Regret, 20:10 Fall 2: von Schwarz pins River, Gute Nacht, 21:49 Fall 3: Tornado pins Ulafsson, springboard guillotina, 28:57 Indigo Rose & Sterling Silver vs. Daniel Simmons & Terrance Stevens A slight step down from the last two matches, the first fall for this one took nearly half an hour, as both sides seemed evenly matched. The first fall came after a hot tag to Stevens, who came into the ring, immediately hit a Maple Leaf Meltdown on Silver, shoved Rose off the apron and got a quick pin before Rose could recover. The next fall came four minutes later, when Stevens got caught by On Wings of Silver, and the match evened up. A few tags would happen in the final fall, but in a nod to the first fall, the decider came off a hot tag. This time, it was Simmons who came in off the hot tag, immediately hit the Blue Collar Driver, and got the pin on Silver—Rose got there a split second too late. In the longest bout of the first round so far, Simmons and Stevens advance over a very game Silver and Rose. Daniel Simmons & Terrance Stevens def. Indigo Rose & Sterling Silver, two falls to one, in 36:53. Rating: *** Fall 1: Stevens pins Silver, Maple Leaf Meltdown, 27:25 Fall 2: Silver pins Stevens, On Wings of Silver, 31:24 Fall 3: Simmons pins Silver, Blue Collar Driver, 36:53 Diego Rodriguez & Pulsar vs. Mel O’Hallister & Yoshii Nakamatsu This ended up being as close to a squash as one can get in this tournament. Pulsar put his side ahead early, notching a pin off a springboard legdrop, and Rodriguez would finish the job a few minutes later with a heel hook submission on the other opponent to put this away before eighteen minutes had elapsed. The fastest match of the opening round so far, and by a five-minute margin, Rodriguez and Pulsar may have the advantage in terms of stamina when the second round begins shortly. Diego Rodriguez & Pulsar def. Mel O’Hallister & Yoshii Nakamatsu, two falls to none, in 17:27. Rating: ** Fall 1: Pulsar pins Nakamatsu, springboard guillotina, 9:04 Fall 2: Rodriguez submits O’Hallister, Discordant Melody, 17:27 Jean-Paul Ouilette & Sin vs. Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare The first round ended on a competitive bout. It was fairly even through the first eighteen minutes between all four competitors, but Nightmare found a burst of momentum somewhere to stun Sin long enough to hit a Siberian Avalanche to score the first fall on his first attempt at the move. After the restart, Sin would escape Nightmare’s clutches and tag in Ouilette, and the Frenchman would put Nightmare on the mat long enough to hit Le Petit Mort to tie the bout at a fall apiece three minutes later. In the deciding fall, a few tags would see action vary between all four participants, and in the end Clay’s enhanced stamina would be enough to wear Sin down with a variety of high-flying moves, capped off with the Johannesburg Express to punch a ticket into the quarterfinals. Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare def. Jean-Paul Ouilette & Sin, two falls to one, in 27:29. Rating: *** Fall 1: Nightmare pins Sin, Siberian Avalanche, 19:33 Fall 2: Ouilette pins Nightmare, Le Petit Mort, 22:10 Fall 3: Clay pins Sin, Johannesburg Express, 27:29 QUARTERFINAL ROUND Daniel Simmons & Terrance Stevens vs. Brandy McDonald & Diamond The opening contest of the second round, conducted the following day in off-air time, pitted the second- and third-place wrestlers in the Beta Division against the Alpha Division leader and a wrestler in the center of the very competitive Gamma Division standings. Despite this being a two straight falls decision, it was closer than it appears from a summary. The lynchpin for this entire match came at the nineteen-minute-mark, when Diamond was able to duck a Maple Leaf Meltdown and the superkick instead connected with head referee Jacob Henry. The next three minutes while the ref was out were slightly in favor of Diamond, who wasn’t intimidated by facing a pair of opponents a division ahead of her. A quick 24 Karat Kiss right when the official finally regained his senses should have led to the first fall, but Stevens managed to kick out at 2.9. But that was all McDonald needed, who came in off the tag and immediately hit Brandy with a Twist for the pinfall. Barely thirty seconds later, she’d hit a second one on Stevens. Having eaten three finishers in the span of about a minute, Stevens had no chance to kick out, and the ladies advance to the semifinals in a good opening bout of the second round. Brandy McDonald & Diamond def. Daniel Simmons & Terrance Stevens, two falls to none, in 24:16. Rating: *** Fall 1: McDonald pins Stevens, Brandy with a Twist, 23:40 Fall 2: McDonald pins Stevens, Brandy with a Twist, 24:16 Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare vs. Angela Wassermann & De’siree Mitchell This was a match conducted in three acts. In the first act, Angela Wassermann did everything short of kneecapping Markus Clay to prevent him from tagging in Nightmare, which led to Wassermann getting her cross arm breaker applied for a submission just past ten minutes in. In the second act, after Clay eventually got the tag to Nightmare, Nightmare would simply do the same thing to Wassermann that she did to Clay, preventing her from tagging in Mitchell by any means necessary until he hit a Siberian Avalanche to even the contest. The third act was fair even for the opening part, but once Clay got the hot tag, Mitchell stood no chance of weathering the storm. A few aerial moves, culminating with a slingshot moonsault (what some people in other places would know as a “lionsault”), would be the decider, and in one of the better matches of the second round, Clay and Nightmare advance to the semifinals. Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare def. Angela Wassermann & De’siree Mitchell, two falls to one, in 27:50. Rating: **** Fall 1: Wassermann submits Clay, Cross Arm Breaker, 10:11 Fall 2: Nightmare pins Wassermann, Siberian Avalanche, 18:23 Fall 3: Clay pins Mitchell, slingshot moonsault, 27:50. Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross vs. Blood River & El Tornado Both masked men were giving up plenty of size to their opponents in this match, but that didn’t stop either from making this a close match. Plenty of back-and-forth throughout, though the advantage through the duration seemed to be firmly in the corner of the (self-styled) righteous. The first fall came after a wicked lariat from Priest got a three count on Tornado. A later Judgement only netted 2.95, as Tornado barely got a shoulder up. While River would hit Gross with a Sacrifice, it wouldn’t be enough as eventually Tornado was tagged back in, and shortly after was caught in Gross’s vaunted dragon sleeper. The punishment was too much, as Tornado was forced to tap. Priest and Gross are the third team to book a spot in the semifinals. Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross def. Blood River & El Tornado, two falls to none, in 30:10. Rating: *** Fall 1: Priest pins Tornado, Canonized, 14:24 Fall 2: Gross submits Tornado, Come to Jesus, 30:10 Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon vs. Diego Rodriguez & Pulsar In the match of the tournament so far, this ended up being a 2-1 result which had two submission finishers fail to earn a fall. The first of these came just shy of seventeen minutes in, when Rodriguez had Mastodon in the Discordant Melody, the heel hook grapevine. Despite the pressure, Diego could not get Mastodon to tap, and was forced to break the hold when he saw that Mastodon was about to reach the ropes. Three mintues later, after another handful of attempts, Rodriguez got the hold applied again and this time Mastodon was forced to tap to concede the first fall in the contest. The second near-submission came at the half-hour mark, when Nuclear had Pulsar caught in the Radiation Leak. Somehow, Pulsar found a way to relieve the pressure enough to get out of the hold…though it did him no good as Nuclear immediately leveled Pulsar with an Armageddon Lariat for the pinfall to even the match up. The third fall only took two minutes to decide, as Pulsar avoided another Armageddon to tag out to Rodriguez. Diego ended up walking right into a Power Surge, followed by a spinning elbow, and Pulsar was unable to make the save as Nuclear held on for three and a spot in the semifinals, with a 67% chance of facing another PC there. Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon def. Diego Rodriguez & Pulsar, two falls to one, in 32:13. Rating: **** Fall 1: Rodriguez submits Mastodon, Discordant Melody, 20:28 Fall 2: Nuclear pins Pulsar, Armageddon Lariat, 30:06 Fall 3: Nuclear pins Rodriguez, spinning elbow blow, 32:13 SEMIFINAL ROUND Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon vs. Brandy McDonald & Diamond Taking place a half-hour after the quarterfinals ended (in actual time, not televised time), the first semifinal match featured three Alpha Division wrestlers, with Diamond being the exception. Taunts started even before the bell with Templeton trying to get under Diamond’s skin by calling her a jobber like he’d been doing all season, among other things that are best not repeated on a family-friendly site. When the bell sounded, it was both League Originals starting the contest. Nuclear would blink first, tagging out to Mastodon before three minutes had elapsed to the taunting jeers of the crowd. This actually played into the gameplan that McDonald and Diamond had cooked up in the hour intermission between rounds—let Diamond take the lead, and let Brandy, who was familiar with both opponents due to her division, be the backbone of the team. This worked out well for the women, with Diamond forcing Mastodon to think fast on a pair of occasions to avoid a Jawjacker. When the third attempt connected, though, Mastodon avoided the follow-up and tagged out to Nuclear. He would hit a couple of high-power moves, but took too long and telegraphed the Armageddon Lariat, which Diamond stopped with an open-handed chop. A Radiation Leak was countered by a flurry of punches, and soon after Diamond made the tag to McDonald. Being the fresher partner, and having knowledge of Nuclear from earlier in the season, McDonald avoided the one piece of offense Nuclear would attempt against her on this occasion (a running shoulder block), and hit her finisher for the first fall of the match. After the restart, she came charging at Nuclear, hit a running knee lift, and immediately hit a second Brandy with a Twist. Diamond would run interference, and three seconds later McDonald and Diamond would punch a ticket to the finals of Tag Team Turmoil. Brandy McDonald & Diamond def. Nuclear Templeton & The Mastodon, two falls to none, in 23:52. Rating: ** Fall 1: McDonald pins Nuclear, Brandy with a Twist, 23:24 Fall 2: McDonald pins Nuclear, Brandy with a Twist, 23:52 Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare vs. Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross A step up from the other semifinal, this one featured a pair of Delta Division foes on opposing teams. This looked to be one of those matches where the wrestlers would have to grind out a successful fall no matter what—which means that most everyone watching was surprised when Gross earned the first fall off a full nelson legsweep shortly after a quarter hour had passed. It would be slower going afterwards, with Priest and Gross fighting from behind for a fair portion of the second fall. There were a couple of tags that were disallowed, a few low blows that caused the referee to shout himself red in the face, and a sequence outside the ring that nearly resulted in a double count-out between Clay and Priest. No finishers were attempted until after a half hour had elapsed, and even then it only took Gross two attempts to apply Come to Jesus on Nightmare. Clay was bulldozed by Priest, and Nightmare was forced to tap out. The finals were set, and would commence after another half-hour break. Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross def. Markus Clay & The Siberian Nightmare, two falls to none, in 33:42. Rating: *** Fall 1: Gross pins Clay, full nelson legsweep, 16:24 Fall 2: Gross submits Nightmare, Come to Jesus, 33:42 TAG TEAM TURMOIL FINALS Christian Priest & Reverend Johnny Gross vs. Brandy McDonald & Diamond Bob Sinclair: Folks, welcome to the third and final hour of this three-hour special League broadcast! Frankie Garnett: More like third day of it… Tori Montgomery: Look, just because the boss elected to space out this tournament to prevent exhausting the wrestlers does not mean you get to criticize it like that. Bob Sinclair: I’m with Tori on this. I think it’s a smart move, let the second day be the gut check, and make the finals the following day so people are not exhausted twenty minutes into an hour-long match, and then just condense it into three hours of television time. Frankie Garnett: It doesn’t mean I have to like it though! Tori Montgomery: Ignoring the curmudgeon at the announce desk…this promises to be an intriguing match, Bob. An Alpha Division competitor on each side, and a member of one of the two lowest divisions as their partners. Would you have expected this coming in? Bob Sinclair: Honestly, no. I had Nuclear and Mastodon penciled in here given their performances in the preseason and in the first half. But that was until they ran into the buzzsaw that is the Alpha Division leader. Now it falls to the leader of The First Church of Wrestling, Christian Priest, and an actual ordained minister in Reverend Johnny Gross, to slow down McDonald and The First Lady of The League here in the finals of Tag Team Turmoil. Frankie Garnett: I have the men winning this one. Tori Montgomery: Wow, sexism much? Frankie Garnett: If you’d have let me continue, Tori… [clears throat] What I was going to add is that while Gross may be struggling in the Alpha Division compared to Brandy, people should not be sleeping on Priest. He’s only a single match behind Brian Blackfield for promotion out of the Delta Division as it currently stands now and given that his only blemish is to the undefeated Blackfield, I believe he can hold his own against competition above his division. It was just easier to summarize it as “men versus women” for the headline. Tori Montgomery: …I sit corrected. That was actually some good insight, Frankie. But there’s one person you left out of your analysis. Diamond may be having an average season, given a 3-4 record in the tier-three Gamma Division coming in, but she’s in the most competitive division in terms of records in The League. The Gamma Division leader is only 5-2, last place is 2-5. That’s the narrowest gap among the four divisions. A couple of moments gone differently, and we may be talking about a pair of division leaders facing Gross and Priest. Plus there’s seven seasons of League experience, and you can’t replace that. The Gamma Division color also changed slightly—it’s still green, but darker. Due to being volunteered for it, at work I’m supposed to do updates on our agency’s webpage (no HTML coding, just editing text or adding documents). One of the things I’ve been looking into for that since it’s a governmental agency is accessibility features and workable color schemes. I still can’t bring myself to get rid of red/yellow yet and I know the red/green may eventually be called out here but I was finally pointed in a safe direction for a fourth color that wasn’t black or white. It also wasn’t very exciting, lasting about fifteen minutes and ending with a brain chop from the giant. Otto avenges his loss to Ulafsson earlier in the season and picks up his second win in the process. Otto von Schwarz (2-6) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-5) via Pinfall (Gute Nacht) in 15:19. Rating: ** Changes for Otto von Schwarz: OVR + 4.27, XP + 487.35, no notable damage Changes for Sven Ulafsson: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.84, minor damage to head Angela Wassermann (2-5, OVR 410) vs. Jean-Paul Ouilette (3-4, OVR 417) BETA DIVISION While the second match of the card wasn’t any more exciting than the first, it did feature our first season sweep in Season Eight. Wassermann only looked in trouble for about the last minute before recovering enough to drop Ouilette with a Superman Punch. The cross arm breaker followed right after and Ouilette was forced to tap in what was ultimately a bland kind of match. Angela Wassermann (3-5) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (3-5) via Submission (Cross Arm Breaker) in 9:47. Rating: ** Changes for Angela Wassermann: OVR + 3.95, XP + 630.10, no notable damage Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette: OVR -0.07, XP + 157.53, minor damage to head Jun Onoo (3-4, OVR 419) vs. Jimmy Anarchy (2-5, OVR 413) GAMMA DIVISION TABLES MATCH Onoo was the clear favorite in this one—being the much larger opponent, he could throw Anarchy through a table, where Anarchy couldn’t do the same. That didn’t stop Anarchy from hitting three Final Steps, an Any Means Necessary, and at least two other low blows, in addition to busting Onoo open and causing heavy bleeding. It still wouldn’t be enough, though, as Onoo only needed to hit one move to get the decision—in this case, a double underhook powerbomb to put Anarchy through the very table he had introduced into the match itself. Jun Onoo (4-4) def. Jimmy Anarchy (2-6) via Table Break (double underhook powerbomb) in 13:06. Rating: *** Changes for Jun Onoo: OVR + 5.36, XP + 605.83, moderate damage to head Changes for Jimmy Anarchy: OVR + 0.74, XP + 151.46, minor damage to head Reverend Johnny Gross (2-5, OVR 413) vs. De'siree Mitchell (3-4, OVR 416) ALPHA DIVISION Easily a Match of the Night contender, this was even throughout. Neither competitor could get a clear advantage over the other for the majority of the match. When the opening came, though, it was pounced on quickly. Gross was able to sidestep an All Out Blitz, deliver a sit-out face-first suplex, and chain it into Come to Jesus. However, to his shock and that of the viewing audience, Mitchell was able to escape the submission hold. (Author’s Note: she rolled a natural 1000 on the escape roll!) Sensing he had found the combination to end the match, Gross repeated the suplex into Come to Jesus, and this time he made certain to lock in the hold extra-tight. Mitchell was forced to tap finally, and Gross has to feel like he earned this one in an effort to claw back towards an even record. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-5) def. De'siree Mitchell (3-5) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 17:40. Sure, it was competitive and close, but it wasn’t very exciting. Nuclear’s attempt to batter Mastachas into oblivion went for naught, as a pair of Olympus Rises tackles led into a Wrath of Zeus, and Nuclear was unable to get a shoulder up in time. Mastachas notches the win, and Nuclear now finds himself in a logjam near the bottom of the Alpha Division and facing the possibility of relegation with six weeks to go. George Mastachas (5-3) def. Nuclear Templeton (3-5) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 13:29. Barely ten minutes had passed before Priest ended it with his lariat finisher, keeping the pressure on the Delta Division leader to win in order to keep the outright lead in the division. With the ref down, he missed a low blow from Clay that could have ended the match, a Dream of the Emerald Isle from O’Hallister, and a slingshot senton from Clay. By the time he recovered, O’Hallister was in control again, and he would not relinquish it for the remainder as he eventually connected with a second Dream to earn the victory. Diamond was the clear aggressor here, hitting all of her signatures in this contest while Tornado struggled to get Diamond into range where a submission could be forced. He nearly did so, but by that time he had eaten both of Diamond’s finishers and it only took three tries to lock in a version of a rear naked choke to force the submission and even up her record on the season. There’s still hope for her to get out of the Gamma Division, but she’s going to need some help at this point as the middle of the division seems to be rather crowded. Diamond (4-4) def. After all, he’d beaten Rose in just under thirteen minutes earlier this season, and her only win had come against Mel O’Hallister. But on this night, an upset seemed to be brewing. Rose would not stay down, and fought back after some wicked impacts to her head. Ducking a Down Under Disaster gave her new life, and she rode that momentum into stunning Norris long enough to apply her inverted STF, the Vite d’Indaco, in the center of the ring. Norris couldn’t get enough purchase with his elbow to drag himself and Rose to the ropes, and eventually he had to tap. This could have gone wither way, with Dhillon having to fight from behind for the majority of the contest. However, his work with refining the Livewire Lariat paid off in this match, as he hit it on both occasions, though he could not score a pin off of it. However, those lariats served to soften up Nightmare so that, after Dhillon escaped a hammerlock powerbomb attempt, Dhillon was able to hit an Empire Bomb of his own and get the three-count to keep pace with Christian Priest near the top of the Delta Division. While competitive, there wasn’t much that made this stand out from some of the other matches earlier tonight. River tried for a finisher once, only for Gibson to break it up by shaking the ropes to throw River’s balance off. Gibson’s lone attempt at a Terminable Offense went for naught, and in the end it was a simple clothesline from the top rope that gave River his sixth win of the season, solidifying his grip on the Gamma Division lead. One camp thought Pulsar had an edge because he’s wearing a mask, it’s harder to bust him open. The other camp was quick to point out all of the instances so far this season where masked wrestlers bled, citing it was no advantage at all. As it turns out, it may be that the members of the first camp might have been on to something. McDonald tried for close to five minutes to bust Pulsar open, to no avail. Instead, it was Pulsar who managed to bust open the Alpha Division leader with a running knee drop, scoring the upset victory and providing a little more hope for the other contenders in the Alpha Division. Pulsar (3-5) def. Brandy McDonald (6-2) via First Blood (running knee drop) in 14:26. Standing in his way was Terrance Stevens, whom Simmons had already beaten once this season. This was a close, if somewhat boring bout. Simmons had a chance to end the match a couple times, but Stevens was ready for the submission finisher each time. Along the same lines, Simmons was ready to thwart the superkick. What Simmons wasn’t expecting, though, was a spear, and it was with that move that Stevens moved himself into a three-way tie for second in the Beta Division, denying Simmons the opportunity to equal the division leader’s record. For a brief time, it looked like Silver might have figured out a way to keep Blackfield down, as she had an early advantage despite taking more blows to the head than she would have liked. But that’s when Blackfield pulled a new wrinkle into his arsenal: going to a pin immediately after the Tartan Effect, something he had not done in the entirety of the first half of the season. Silver kicked out of the cover on instinct alone, but was not ready for the follow-up Scotland Destroyer that came afterwards. Three seconds later, Blackfield ended week eight with his record still perfect, to the chagrin of Christian Priest and Monty Dhillon still behind him in the division. Brian Blackfield (8-0) def. As for breaking the bottom four-person tie: (1) Pulsar’s 2-1 combined record against Mitchell (2-2), Gross (2-2), and Nuclear (1-2) gives him the first position. (2) Mitchell’s 2-1 record against Nuclear (1-1) and Gross (1-2) gives her the sixth spot. (3) Nuclear has beaten Gross, so he wins the final tiebreaker and slots into 7th place, leaving Gross in the relegation spot. But there’s still time to sort out who’s eventually getting dropped back into Beta; this could be as hotly contested as the fight for the League Championship. BETA DIVISION 1. A Priest win probably gives him the tiebreaker since it’s unlikely to take longer than 31 minutes for him to put down Blackfield. Silver gives herself a little more breathing room from the bottom of the division but isn’t out of danger of being replaced at the end of the season. Sterling Silver (3-6) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-6) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 17:14. Rating: ** Changes for Sterling Silver: OVR + 4.38, XP + 488.27, minor damage to head Changes for Sven Ulafsson: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.07, major damage to head, moderate damage to body Yoshii Nakamatsu (4-4, OVR 418) vs. Jimmy Anarchy (2-6, OVR 413) GAMMA DIVISION This was a squash, no two ways about it. Nakamatsu dominated the match, never even getting close to being threatened by Anarchy’s signature moves, and won on just the second attempt of his finisher in an otherwise dull bout. Yes, it was closer than the previous match, but that’s about the only thing it had going for it. Wassermann picked up the submission with the stump puller, once again utilizing the surprise hold for a victory. Angela Wassermann (4-5) def. Markus Clay (3-6) via Submission (stump puller) in 11:38. Pulsar went up top for a Zodiac Implosion, which Mitchell rushed. Pulsar kicked her away before she could throw him off the top rope, did so again after she thwarted a missile dropkick by shaking the ropes, and then landed a top rope clothesline that managed to score a pinfall just before the eight-minute mark of the match. Pulsar lowers his already-League-best Average Time of Victory to 9:44 over his four victories. Pulsar (4-5) def. De'siree Mitchell (3-6) via Pinfall (top rope flying clothesline) in 7:59. Rose’s offense, while almost equal to O’Hallister’s, was too scattered and inconsistent to threaten him too much. A DDT followed by his reverse DDT was enough for O’Hallister to notch the win and keep his dreams of promotion alive, while Rose sees her dreams of simply remaining in the Beta Division slowly slipping out of her hands. Mel O'Hallister (6-3) def. Indigo Rose (2-7) via Pinfall (Dream of the Emerald Isle) in 10:44. A Livewire Lariat would do just as well, as he maintains his place in the three-person race for the Delta Division crown and a promotion to the Gamma Division. Monty Dhillon (7-2) def. Otto von Schwarz (2-7) via Pinfall (Livewire Lariat) in 10:54. It took two tries for Jun to hit the IMPACT Driver, but once he did not even the shrill cries of Karen McClure could get Gibson back on his feet before Onoo had left the cage and emerged the victor. The lone table introduced into the match didn’t even last thirty seconds, as the first move Ouilette did after introducing it into the contest was to powerbomb his opponent through it. Quick, simple, and effective in this case, as Ouilette gives himself a little more breathing room in the division with just five weeks remaining. Jean-Paul Ouilette (4-5) def. Terrance Stevens (5-4) via Table Break (powerbomb) in 9:48. Tornado’s lucha background did him no favors in this contest, as he was unable to draw blood from Rodriguez despite several attempts at pounding away at the head of his opponent. Rodriguez only needed a stump piledriver to do the deed on the masked Tornado—a move Tornado likely would have used if he had remembered this is not lucha libre and that piledrivers are legal in The League! Diego Rodriguez (5-4) def. El Tornado (4-5) via First Blood (stump piledriver) in 12:56. Rating: ** Changes for Diego Rodriguez: OVR + 4.38, XP + 559.14, minor damage to head Changes for El Tornado: OVR + 0.9, XP + 139.78, no notable damage Reverend Johnny Gross (3-5, OVR 419) vs. The Mastodon (5-3, OVR 423) ALPHA DIVISION Proving that the length of the match means nothing in terms of ratings, this match was the longest of the card so far, clocking in at over eighteen minutes, but still didn’t rate above “perfectly average wrestling” in the eyes of the fans. This was also a lot closer than many of the other matches this week have been, with Mastodon and Gross both failing to land their finishers on at least one occasion. The difference here was in size, as Mastodon dropped Gross with a powerbomb and held on for the pin, Gross kicking out a split-second too late. Mastodon keeps pace at the top of the Alpha Division, and the Right Reverend finds himself in a bit of a bind after his sixth loss of the season. The Mastodon (6-3) def. Nuclear could not get a steady string of offense going to save his life, and McDonald made him suffer for it. A win leaves her tied with three others for second in the Gamma Division, only one match behind the leader and potentially with a tiebreaker over River if the victory time went her way. A loss, and she’s all but out of contention, as she’d be three matches behind with five to go. Truly high stakes in the closing moments of week nine. This came down to the wire, with decent back-and-forth and River trying everything in his arsenal to put Diamond away early. She was having none of it, and after having the 24 Karat Kiss thwarted on the first two attempts, she landed it on the third and immediately went for the cover. Diamond would score the pin, and perhaps more importantly score the tiebreaker over Blood River in a head-to-head scenario. River’s time of victory over her in the first match was 12:58. As befits a proper main event, it was a Match of the Night contender—really the only one besides the actual MOTN—and could have gone either way. The ending sequence came down to Simmons avoiding a Boomerang DDT, hitting a DDT of his own only to see Norris get to the ropes to break Quitting Time, followed by Norris leaving himself open to be planted by a Blue Collar Driver.
