THE LEAGUE: SEASON EIGHT, WEEK TEN

JpyUoje.jpg Sin (1-8, OVR 407) vs. Sterling Silver (3-6, OVR 417) va4qjuU.jpg

DELTA DIVISION

Even the game engine agrees this was painfully average.  Saved the embarrassment of a * rating because it wasn’t a squash, this had limited crowd attention and ended with Silver avenging her loss to Sin earlier this season.  Sin at this point is all but assured of being a one-and-done in The League, likely released from her contract at season’s end.

Sterling Silver (4-6) def. Sin (1-9) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 14:38.  Rating: **

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 4.23, XP + 487.02, minor damage to head

Changes for Sin:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.76, minor damage to head and body

2X2r9qf.jpg Indigo Rose (2-7, OVR 414) vs. Markus Clay (3-6, OVR 416) N0Y594C.jpg

BETA DIVISION

Clay had control for a fair portion of this match, and looked to be cruising to an easy victory before Rose started countering almost everything Clay could throw at her.  An inspired counter of a missile dropkick into a single leg grapevine was the tonal shift Rose needed, and just a few minutes later her variated DDT stunned Clay long enough to net her three and what some would call a minor upset this late in the season.  This makes the push to avoid relegation from the division that much closer.

Indigo Rose (3-7) def. Markus Clay (3-7) via Pinfall (Blood From a Rose) in 11:45.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 4.07, XP + 631.33, minor damage to head

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.83, no notable damage

V1I70uc.jpg Jimmy Anarchy (2-7, OVR 413) vs. El Tornado (4-5, OVR 422) LTFF6jR.jpg

GAMMA DIVISION

Another case of resident luchadors winning suddenly, this match did not even reach nine minutes long before Tornado landed a springboard senton that drove the wind out of Anarchy’s lungs. The pin was almost academic, and Tornado improves to an even record and all but condemns Anarchy to the Delta Division for Season Nine.

El Tornado (5-5) def. Jimmy Anarchy (2-8) via Pinfall (springboard senton bomb) in 8:46.  Rating: **

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR + 3.90, XP + 556.84, no notable damage

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.21, minor damage to head

FqeSGy6.jpg Nuclear Templeton (3-6, OVR 416) vs. Pulsar (4-5, OVR 419) VfA2MW8.jpg

ALPHA DIVISION

The first true Match of the Night contender for week ten, this one saw Nuclear in a much different mindset than normal—spinning elbow blows were landing easily, he wasn’t leaving himself open to Pulsar’s aerial arsenal, and he’d give back as good as he got whenever Pulsar took the offense.  In the end, a sudden lariat was the difference maker, and Nuclear emerges from week ten with a direly-needed victory.

Nuclear Templeton (4-6) def. Pulsar (4-6) via Pinfall (Armageddon Lariat) in 11:22.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.23, XP + 788.87, minor damage to head

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR + 0.73, XP + 197.22, moderate damage to head

giFlbJV.jpg Yoshii Nakamatsu (5-4, OVR 421) vs. Erick Gibson (4-5, OVR 417) xd5Rq8a.jpglimej5G.jpg

GAMMA DIVISION

Gibson’s primary string of offense—made possible by a Karen McClure trip some five minutes into the contest, proving that managers are not entirely dead in modern wrestling—was the only thing keeping this from being a squash.  After the eight-minute mark, Nakamatsu controlled the entire match and eventually put Gibson down with the Nakamatsu Driver.

Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-4) def. Erick Gibson (4-6) via Pinfall (Nakamatsu Driver) in 13:45.  Rating: **

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 4.18, XP + 559.59, minor damage to head

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR -0.07, XP + 111.92, major damage to head

hlph25Q.jpg George Mastachas (5-4, OVR 421) vs. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-6, OVR 418) IgD64Oj.jpg

ALPHA DIVISION

Another average matchup, this one was closer than the rating would make you think.  Mastachas would be unable to connect with the Wrath of Zeus.  Gross wouldn’t need a second attempt to lock in his submission finisher, and Gross maintains pace with Nuclear, moving into a three-way time along with Pulsar.  It Mitchell loses later on, she inherits the relegation spot in the Alpha Division.

Reverend Johnny Gross (4-6) def. George Mastachas (5-5) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 13:55.  Rating: **

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR + 4.19, XP + 730.02, minor damage to head

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.51, minor damage to head

ginc2gw.jpg Terrance Stevens (5-4, OVR 425) vs. Angela Wassermann (4-5, OVR 417) ZCYwviV.jpg

BETA DIVISION HARDCORE MATCH

Another average match in a string of them, this hardcore match never left the ring, essentially becoming a standard match without the befit of rope breaks or illegal moves.  In a straight fight like that, the former MMA athlete would be considered the favorite, and proved it here with a systematic dismantling of Terrance Stevens.  The cross arm breaker would be enough to end the match before Stevens could build up any momentum.

Angela Wassermann (5-5) def. Terrance Stevens (5-5) via Submission (Cross Arm Breaker) in 10:23.  Rating: **

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR + 3.99, XP + 630.48, no notable damage

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.62, minor damage to head

vz0qqDp.jpg Monty Dhillon (7-2, OVR 433) vs. Sven Ulafsson (3-6, OVR 414) 9VJLBCy.jpg

DELTA DIVISION

The first of the Delta Division’s “Big Three” to compete tonight, this one had Dhillon work for it. Ulafsson got his share and then some of offense in, but eventually Ulafsson would react too weakly or too late to stop the Empire Bomb, and that’s exactly what happened here.  Dhillon even showed off a new trademark, a series of European uppercuts he calls the Hammer Mill, ahead of scoring the pinfall victory and doing his part to keep pace with the other members of the Big Three.

Monty Dhillon (8-2) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-7) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 11:28.  Rating: **

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 4.05, XP + 485.50, no notable damage

Changes for Sven Ulafsson:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.38, minor damage to head

iLs7NYn.jpg The Mastodon (6-3, OVR 427) vs. De'siree Mitchell (3-6, OVR 417) p54rf5F.jpg

ALPHA DIVISION

A tale of both ends of the Alpha Division spectrum.  Mastodon needed this one to force pressure on division leader Brandy McDonald.  Mitchell needed this one to avoid the worst record in the division outright.  What happened would be the fastest bout in The League this season, not even lasting seven minutes and ending when Mitchell landed an implant DDT and somehow managed to score the pinfall from it.  A major upset in the Alpha Division, leaving the door wide open for Brandy McDonald to extend the lead and securing the League Championship before week fourteen.

De'siree Mitchell (4-6) def. The Mastodon (6-4) via Pinfall (implant DDT) in 6:47.  Rating: *

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 2.67, XP + 664.48, no notable damage

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR -0.81, XP + 166.12, no notable damage

AOP9il0.jpgNldKaI4.jpg Christian Priest (8-1, OVR 437) vs. Otto von Schwarz (2-7, OVR 410) 7i2wu7j.jpg5MMzLA4.jpg

DELTA DIVISION

Bob Sinclair: Back to the Delta Division now, and the second of the “big three” of the division, Christian Priest, comes in looking to finish the season sweep of the giant Otto von Schwarz.

Frankie Garnett: This is Priest’s to lose. He’s only stumbled against Brian Blackfield so far, I do not see Otto giving him any troubles.

Tori Montgomery: I’m leaning towards agreeing with Frankie, but we’ve already seen a few upsets tonight.  I mean, we did just see a major upset in the Alpha Division. I’m not taking anything as a given with all of that going on.

Bob Sinclair: Everyone is in place, the referee calls for the bell, and we are underway!

Bob Sinclair: Priest isn’t going for a cover off of that; he must think Otto still has some fight left in him and needs to press the offense that much more.

Tori Montgomery: Despite getting his brain scrambled for a few moments Priest had the wherewithal to know where he was in the ring and get to the ropes. Otto didn’t think to check while he was recovering!

Frankie Garnett: And now is the time for the comeback!  Let’s go, Christian!

Frankie Garnett: That was three, I saw the hand hit!

Tori Montgomery: I’m looking at the replay, Frankie, and it was clearly not three.  There’s maybe an inch of clearance.

Frankie Garnett: For the love of…what is this, the damn World Cup, except Germany isn’t getting hosed this time?

Bob Sinclair: Will the second be enough?  Otto collapses into the cover…one…two…three!  No doubts this time, a clear three-count and an exhausted Otto von Schwarz has pulled out one of the biggest upsets in the Delta Division this season!

Frankie Garnett: Oh, this is just straight up bul—

Tori Montgomery: I’m not letting you finish that sentence, Frankie.  This was a doozy of a match, and the door is now wide open for Brian Blackfield to all but run away with the Delta Division title with a win later on!

Bob Sinclair: Tori, there’s still four weeks left in the season after tonight.

Tori Montgomery: I know that.  But given the roll that Blackfield has been on since the opening week, do you see him dropping two or three of his next five, counting tonight?  Cause that’s what it’s going to take for someone else to win this division, I think!

Otto von Schwarz (3-7) def. Christian Priest (8-2) via Pinfall (Gute Nacht) in 17:31.  Rating: ****

Changes for Otto von Schwarz:  OVR + 6.98, XP + 669.81, minor damage to head

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 1.65, XP + 242.45, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

This was the Match of the Night (1 [1 this season] for Otto von Schwarz, 2 [2 this season] for Christian Priest)

ayWv1C3.jpg Billy Norris (6-3, OVR 429) vs. Jean-Paul Ouilette (4-5, OVR 420) ZThYhej.jpgAAdEYyr.jpg

BETA DIVISION

Billy Norris should have won this match by ten minutes deep.  He dominated the opening minutes, but could not seem to land his Down Under Disaster despite busting open Ouilette and landing the Boomerang DDT at will.  After one such failure, Ouilette slowly fought his way back into the match, keeping Norris off-balance with a sustained offense, and then surprised the Aussie with a low blow, which the ref somehow missed.  A few seconds later, yet another upset was written into the books.

Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-5) def. Billy Norris (6-4) via Pinfall (low blow) in 14:52.  Rating: **

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 4.24, XP + 633.28, moderate damage to head

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR -0.07, XP + 158.32, minor damage to head

9wxABJw.jpg Diego Rodriguez (5-4, OVR 425) vs. Diamond (5-4, OVR 425) 0rDaDU8.jpg

GAMMA DIVISION

This ended up being closer than anyone would have guessed five minutes into the contest.  At that point, Rodriguez had had little offense, and Diamond was in firm control.  But he would fight back, absorbing Jawjackers and avoiding 24 Karat Kisses while he looked to wear Diamond down with his submission and technical-based offense.  But she only needed to get lucky once before he could wear her down too much, and that happened just before a quarter of an hour had elapsed.  Diamond hit her cutter, and depending on the River match later could head into week eleven with the Gamma Division lead.

Diamond (6-4) def. Diego Rodriguez (5-5) via Pinfall (24 Karat Kiss) in 14:45.  Rating: **

Changes for Diamond:  OVR + 4.24, XP + 560.14, minor damage to head

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.07, XP + 140.04, moderate damage to head

zTBxNBX.jpg Jun Onoo (5-4, OVR 428) vs. Blood River (6-3, OVR 424) T127n44.jpgdTs8j7q.jpg

GAMMA DIVISION

After this Match of the Night contender, Jun Onoo has a right to be angry.  This match would have ended four minutes earlier, and in his favor, if the referee had not reversed his decision after Onoo got the pin off the IMPACT Driver and then spotted River’s foot under the bottom rope.  Onoo had been busted open earlier in the contest, and looked to simply beat River to a point where he would not be able to kick out of another, but before it got to that point River fought back, focusing on the lacerated forehead of Onoo, and eventually forcing the ref to call a stop to the bout due to the blood loss Onoo was suffering.  One turn of events keeps the Gamma Division from a three-way tie at the top, as River becomes the first person not named Brian Blackfield to win a match via blood loss stoppage this season.

Blood River (7-3) def. Jun Onoo (5-5) via Blood Stoppage in 15:48.  Rating: ***

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 6.06, XP + 607.45, moderate damage to body, minor damage to head

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR + 1.91, XP + 151.86, moderate damage to head

ha8RmaF.jpg Daniel Simmons (6-3, OVR 430) vs. Mel O'Hallister (6-3, OVR 431) e8cytyP.jpg

BETA DIVISION

The Norris loss a few matches ago meant the winner of this contest would emerge as the outright Beta Division leader heading into week eleven. Both men seemed to know the ramifications of this contest, and went full-speed from the opening bell.  O’Hallister was first to try to end the match, looking for the Dream, but Simmons had it scouted and fought his way back to equal ground before pressing an advantage slowly but surely.  Quitting Time got locked in, and it seemed like it would be over then and there—but O’Hallister’s old leg injury was at the knee, not the ankle, and somehow he managed to break free without tapping.  As he went to stand, though, the knee buckled slightly, that was all the hesitation Simmons needed to connect with a Blue Collar Driver for the pin and the Beta Division lead.

Daniel Simmons (7-3) def. Mel O'Hallister (6-4) via Pinfall (Blue Collar Driver) in 13:33.  Rating: ***

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 5.39, XP + 685.16, minor damage to head

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR + 0.75, XP + 171.29, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

This was Nightmare’s match to lose after nine minutes in.  He had Blackfield on the ropes, just looking for an opening for either The Sickle or even the Siberian Avalanche (despite the latter being considered a Bad Idea).  Blackfield would not give him the opening, though, and plinked away at Nightmare until a single Tartan Effect kept Nightmare down for 2.5—expect that the ref counted fast and got to three a split second before Nightmare kicked out.  The (supposed) bear wrestler screamed bloody murder at the ref, to no avail as Blackfield escapes with his perfect record intact and now with some breathing room in the Delta Division.

Brian Blackfield (10-0) def. The Siberian Nightmare (3-7) via Pinfall (Tartan Effect) in 14:24.  Rating: **

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 4.22, XP + 486.91, minor damage to body

Changes for The Siberian Nightmare:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.73, minor damage to head

OOiJTFx.jpg Big Scott Weathers (5-4, OVR 427) vs. Brandy McDonald (7-2, OVR 434) TxXkh5U.jpg

ALPHA DIVISION

Main event, and with all of the chaos that has happened tonight, people were openly talking in the stands during the final lull before the match that it’d almost be fitting if Brandy lost here, just to make the last four weeks that much more interesting.

Whatever deity oversees League wrestling must have heard them.  McDonald had a hard time getting any sustained offense going, while Weathers seemed to connect at will with anything and everything short of brass knuckles.  The Blackout coming just after eleven minutes into the contest was enough, and a wildly chaotic week in the League standings ends with yet another upset.

Big Scott Weathers (6-4) def. Brandy McDonald (7-3) via Pinfall (Blackout) in 11:25.  Rating: **

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR + 4.05, XP + 728.22, no notable damage

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.06, minor damage to head

DIVISION STANDINGS AFTER WEEK 10 OF 14

ALPHA DIVISION

1.  Brandy McDonald:  7-3, ATV 14:37, (AMR 2.300), OVR 434.08

2.  The Mastodon:  6-4, ATV 15:07, (AMR 2.000), OVR 426.65

3.  Big Scott Weathers:  6-4, ATV 17:36, (AMR 2.400), OVR 430.68

4.  George Mastachas:  5-5, ATV 12:56, (AMR 2.000), OVR 420.47

5.  Pulsar:  4-6, ATV 9:44, (AMR 2.400), OVR 419.63

6.  De'siree Mitchell:  4-6, ATV 13:07, (AMR 2.300), OVR 419.64

7.  Nuclear Templeton:  4-6, ATV 13:03, (AMR 2.500), OVR 421.36

8.  Reverend Johnny Gross:  4-6, ATV 18:56, (AMR 2.500), OVR 422.65

No changes to the actual order in the top flight.  Weathers gives himself a fighting chance at the championship, Mastachas needs help, and the lower half are all but eliminated from title contention, being down three matches with four to go.  Note that as it presently stands, Brandy loses individual tiebreakers to both Mastodon and Weathers, meaning she’s going to need to win the division outright or hope for a three-way tie and get the tiebreakers to go her way.  The extended tie-breaker sequence yields the same order for the lower half, leaving Reverend Gross as low man on the pole heading into week 11.  KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS: (Week 11) Mastodon vs. Mastachas; (Week 12) Mastodon vs. McDonald.

BETA DIVISION

1.  Daniel Simmons:  7-3, ATV 14:43 (AMR 2.500), OVR 435.64

2.  Mel O'Hallister:  6-4, ATV 12:49 (AMR 2.600), OVR 431.55

3.  Billy Norris:  6-4, ATV 11:30 (AMR 2.500), OVR 428.45

4.  Angela Wassermann:  5-5, ATV 10:51 (AMR 2.100), OVR 420.90

5.  Jean-Paul Ouilette:  5-5, ATV 13:03 (AMR 2.400), OVR 424.64

6.  Terrance Stevens:  5-5, ATV 15:35 (AMR 2.400), OVR 425.23

7.  Markus Clay:  3-7, ATV 12:35 (AMR 2.400), OVR 416.39

8.  Indigo Rose:  3-7, ATV 14:47 (AMR 2.500), OVR 418.05

A three-person race, with the next three still having a chance.  Simmons holds the outright lead, and his sweep of O’Hallister this season means that O’Hallister is effectively two matches out of the lead. Norris has a win over Simmons, and has an easier path to the lead despite being in third in the division due to losing to O’Hallister earlier in the season.  At the bottom of the division, Clay wins the tiebreaker by 38 seconds—he and Rose split their season series, but Clay won faster.  If the season ended today, those 38 seconds would send Rose down into Gamma.  KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS: (Week 11) O’Hallister vs. Ouilette, Wassermann vs. Norris; (Week 12) O’Hallister vs. Wassermann, Norris vs. Stevens; (Week 13) Stevens vs. O’Hallister, Simmons vs. Ouilette; (Week 14) O’Hallister vs. Norris, Wassermann vs. Simmons

GAMMA DIVISION

1.  Blood River:  7-3, ATV 12:24, (AMR 2.100), OVR 430.35

2.  Yoshii Nakamatsu:  6-4, ATV 14:58, (AMR 2.000), OVR 424.81

3.  Diamond:  6-4, ATV 13:48, (AMR 2.400), OVR 429.71

4.  El Tornado:  5-5, ATV 10:15, (AMR 2.500), OVR 425.41

5.  Diego Rodriguez:  5-5, ATV 13:34, (AMR 2.400), OVR 425.40

6.  Jun Onoo:  5-5, ATV 13:17, (AMR 2.800), OVR 429.88

7.  Erick Gibson:  4-6, ATV 13:59, (AMR 2.100), OVR 417.37

8.  Jimmy Anarchy:  2-8, ATV 10:31, (AMR 2.500), OVR 412.53

This week’s chaos only hamstrings Gibson’s chances of winning the division.  Nakamatsu and Diamond still have another match with each other forthcoming, as do River and Nakamatsu.  Add in the three-way tie behind them, and you have a division that is nowhere near decided yet. Anarchy needs to sweep the season against Gibson to have a shot at remaining in the Gamma Division next season.  KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS: (Week 11) Diamond vs. Onoo, River vs. Nakamatsu; (Week 12) River vs. Tornado, Nakamatsu vs. Onoo; (Week 13) Anarchy vs. Gibson, Diamond vs. Nakamatsu

DELTA DIVISION

1.  Brian Blackfield:  10-0, ATV 20:16 (AMR 2.400), OVR 453.43

2.  Christian Priest:  8-2, ATV 12:28 (AMR 2.500), OVR 438.83

3.  Monty Dhillon:  8-2, ATV 13:31 (AMR 2.200), OVR 436.60

4.  Sterling Silver:  4-6, ATV 18:51 (AMR 2.400), OVR 421.16

5.  The Siberian Nightmare:  3-7, ATV 16:04 (AMR 2.600), OVR 420.71

6.  Sven Ulafsson:  3-7, ATV 18:52 (AMR 2.000), OVR 413.62

7.  Otto von Schwarz:  3-7, ATV 15:30 (AMR 2.200), OVR 417.36

8.  Sin:  1-9, ATV 13:08 (AMR 2.300), OVR 406.61

The loss by Priest gives Blackfield an unexpected cushion atop the division.  With four matches to go, he doesn’t have to remain perfect and can afford to drop one match if he has a bad night without risking losing the division lead.  It’s still only a three-man race, although Silver gives herself a fighting chance of not being replaced come Season Nine by outright claiming the fourth spot.  KEY UPCOMING MATCHUPS: (Week 11) Dhillon vs. Priest; (Week 12) Dhillon vs. Blackfield; (Week 13) Priest vs. Blackfield.

So I’ve gotten about 90% of the show framework done. I’m going to try something a little different with regard to opening match headers and how they’re aligned and spaced.

Since I mainly read on my iPad, and have noticed that some of the match headers seem to come out a bit wrong on said iPad, I’m going to start tinkering with them in the last few weeks of the season to see if I can find a layout I’m happy with moving forward in time for season 9.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON EIGHT, WEEK ELEVEN

DELTA DIVISION

9VJLBCy.jpg (6) Sven Ulafsson (3-7, OVR 414)

vs.

(8) Sin (1-9, OVR 407) JpyUoje.jpg

This match was contested before anyone else came in the arena, at the request of both competitors since they both knew this was basically a throwaway match.  Even then, from the footage that made it out onto the internet, it seemed like Ulafsson basically didn’t fight back at all after the fifteen-minute mark, and suffered a blood loss stoppage stoically.  Sin picks up her second win of the season, with only a referee and a camera operator watching it live. On the actual broadcast, Bob Sinclair talked over a couple still shots and informed the viewers at the top of the show that Sin had managed a win in rather bloody fashion.

Sin (2-9) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-8) via Blood Stoppage in 26:47.  Rating: **

Changes for Sin:  OVR + 5.50, XP + 492.86, minor damage to head and body

Changes for Sven Ulafsson:  OVR + 1.21, XP + 123.21, major damage to head, moderate damage to body

GAMMA DIVISION

9wxABJw.jpg (5) Diego Rodriguez (5-5, OVR 425)

vs.

(8) Jimmy Anarchy (2-8, OVR 413) V1I70uc.jpg

After the mat was replaced and the public allowed to take their seats, this was the first match they were able to witness and the first one to make it to air. For the second match in a row, the bottom-ranked wrestler pulled off the win.  Unlike the match that didn’t air, this one was kept under ten minutes, with Anarchy planting his boot in Rodriguez’s face and earning the pin on the first attempt. Anarchy isn’t quite ready to give up the fight to remain in the Gamma Division.

Jimmy Anarchy (3-8) def. Diego Rodriguez (5-6) via Pinfall (Final Step) in 9:21.  Rating: **

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR + 3.93, XP + 557.16, no notable damage

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.29, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

va4qjuU.jpg (4) Sterling Silver (4-6, OVR 421)

vs.

(5) The Siberian Nightmare (3-7, OVR 421) Eda7f6d.jpg

This match was essentially for the final spot to remain in the Delta Division (unless a massive influx of new wrestlers were to sign up for Season Nine). Once again, Silver did not let the size difference throw off her game, asserting her dominance early and felling Nightmare for the second time this season in what was basically a squash match, all but guaranteeing her a fourth-place finish in the Delta Division.

Sterling Silver (5-6) def. The Siberian Nightmare (3-8) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 9:09.  Rating: *

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 2.77, XP + 444.03, no notable damage

Changes for The Siberian Nightmare:  OVR -0.84, XP + 111.01, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

N0Y594C.jpg (7) Markus Clay (3-7, OVR 416)

vs.

(6) Terrance Stevens (5-5, OVR 425) ginc2gw.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Coming up is a match with some possible ramifications on the bottom end of the Beta Division, as Markus Clay looks to create some separation from the absolute bottom of the division. He faces Terrance Stevens.

Frankie Garnett: I honestly think this is a trap match for Stevens.  He’s likely to be sleeping on Clay and ends up being upset by him for the second time this season.

Tori Montgomery: I’m not sure about that, Frankie. Stevens did lose to Clay earlier in the season.  He knows what Clay can bring into a match. He won’t make the same mistakes a second time.

Bob Sinclair: We will find out soon enough, as the bell sounds and this contest gets underway!

Bob Sinclair: Stevens going a little out of his comfort zone there and Clay made him pay for it.

Tori Montgomery: Clay may not have the blistering speed of, say, one of the luchadors in The League, but he’s faster than most.  The key to Stevens winning is to not waste time and not let Clay get any sort of space opened up.

Frankie Garnett: Easier done when you’re not gasping for breath after standing stomach-first on the mat, Tori!

Tori Montgomery: Because it’s my job, Frankie?

Frankie Garnett:  …

Bob Sinclair: Stevens seems to be gathering some momentum here, but as we’ve seen all season, even a small mistake can be costly!

Tori Montgomery: Stevens avenges his loss from earlier in the season, and Clay remains in danger of being relegated to the Gamma Division!

Frankie Garnett: But he’s still got the tiebreaker on Rose, doesn’t he?

Tori Montgomery: If they remain tied, yes.  But Rose has a chance to pull ahead later on tonight when she faces the division leader, Daniel Simmons.

Frankie Garnett: So Clay’s still going to be ahead at the end of the week, got it.

Bob Sinclair: I wouldn’t be entirely too sure, Frankie. Stranger things have happened after all.

ALPHA DIVISION

p54rf5F.jpg (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-6, OVR 420)

vs.

(7) Nuclear Templeton (4-6, OVR 421) FqeSGy6.jpg

Both competitors needed a win here to give themselves a little bit of distance from last place and a drop into Beta Division.  While this was close, it was what some people would call “bowling shoe ugly” and not very exciting to watch.  The slugfest and eventual reversal-fest would end with Nuclear hitting a DDT, picking up Mitchell, and locking in the Radiation Leak for the submission victory and a much-needed reprieve in the standings.

Nuclear Templeton (5-6) def. De'siree Mitchell (4-7) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 14:01.  Rating: *

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 2.96, XP + 669.25, no notable damage

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR -0.90, XP + 167.31, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

LTFF6jR.jpg (4) El Tornado (5-5, OVR 425)

vs.

(7) Erick Gibson (4-6, OVR 417) xd5Rq8a.jpglimej5G.jpg

While Gibson would not fall into a tie-breaker scenario against Jimmy Anarchy if he lost here, a loss would put him within reach of Anarchy to catch up and possibly force Gibson into the Delta Division. On the opposite end, Tornado needed a win to remain mathematically in contention for the Gamma Division crown. Gibson had the advantage through a slight majority of the match, as Tornado struggled to chain any offense together for a lengthy period of time.  While Tornado managed to avoid a trio of Terminable Offenses, he fell victim to a low blow, which the ref missed somehow, and Gibson steals a win to all but end Tornado’s hopes of advancing this season.

Erick Gibson (5-6) def. El Tornado (5-6) via Pinfall (low blow) in 9:18.  Rating: **

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 3.93, XP + 557.13, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.28, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

VfA2MW8.jpg (5) Pulsar (4-6, OVR 420)

vs.

(3) Big Scott Weathers (6-4, OVR 431) OOiJTFx.jpg

Both men had a reason to fight here—Weathers is still in contention for a League Championship, Pulsar came into the night at the head of the four-way tie at the bottom of the division.  This was a close match, though it needed just a little bit more to be a Match of the Night contender. Weathers let Pulsar try to do more damage to himself by avoiding a fair bit of the luchador’s aerial offense, but Pulsar managed to hit enough high-risk moves that eventually Weathers was left vulnerable long enough for Pulsar to ascend the ropes and hit his vaunted shooting star senton, the Zodiac Implosion, for the three count and a much-needed win to give himself some separation from the bottom of the division.

Pulsar (5-6) def. Big Scott Weathers (6-5) via Pinfall (Zodiac Implosion) in 18:23.  Rating: **

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR + 4.44, XP + 733.24, minor damage to head

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR -0.08, XP + 183.31, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

BETA DIVISION

ZCYwviV.jpg (4) Angela Wassermann (5-5, OVR 421)

vs.

(3) Billy Norris (6-4, OVR 428) ayWv1C3.jpg

A must-win here for Norris if he wants to maintain a chance at advancing into the top flight for Season Nine. Wassermann needed help to contend, and had some cushion between herself and the bottom of the division.  Some of that cushion vanished in what was essentially a squash match, as Norris didn’t even need to resort to his finisher to put the German away and keep the pressure on Simmons and O’Hallister.

Billy Norris (7-4) def. Angela Wassermann (5-6) via Pinfall (Boomerang DDT) in 7:50.  Rating: *

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 2.71, XP + 576.48, no notable damage

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR -0.83, XP + 144.12, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

iLs7NYn.jpg (2) The Mastodon (6-4, OVR 427)

vs.

(4) George Mastachas (5-5, OVR 420) hlph25Q.jpg

A Mastodon win forces McDonald to win or lose the championship lead via tiebreaker.  A Mastachas win leads to a three-way tie for second in the division and gives McDonald a chance to add some space to her lead. This just barely avoided being considered a squash, in the end.  Mastodon never seemed to get out of the starting blocks and Mastachas made him pay for it.  A single attempt at the Wrath of Zeus was all it took, and suddenly Brandy McDonald is the odds-on favorite to head into week eleven with a two-match lead in the Alpha Division.

George Mastachas (6-5) def. The Mastodon (6-5) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 13:17.  Rating: **

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 4.15, XP + 729.56, no notable damage

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.39, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

2X2r9qf.jpg (8) Indigo Rose (3-7, OVR 418)

vs.

(1) Daniel Simmons (7-3, OVR 436) ha8RmaF.jpg

Most everyone expected this to do Simmons’ way, the question was how easy and how fast would it be. The answers were “not as easy as he would have liked,” and “just under twelve minutes.” Simmons maintains his spot atop the Beta Division, while Rose is unable to create any separation between herself and Markus Clay on the bottom end of the table.

Daniel Simmons (8-3) def. Indigo Rose (3-8) via Submission (Quitting Time) in 11:44.  Rating: **

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 4.06, XP + 631.32, no notable damage

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.83, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (3) Diamond (6-4, OVR 430)

vs.

(6) Jun Onoo (5-5, OVR 430) zTBxNBX.jpg

Another match in the hotly-contested Gamma Division, with both combatants still mathematically within reach of the division title. The finish of the match made absolutely no sense, given the circumstances, but yet it happened and I am baffled trying to imagine the image in my head, much less trying to liven it up for a forum post.  So, I’m going to give it to you straight and revert to game-speak for the next bit.

Diamond got a little bit of momentum after a Jawjacker, looking to get into positive momentum before attempting a 24 Karat Kiss (since Onoo was still standing).  She was at Poor momentum, Onoo at Low. She hit a sunset flip, likely getting the extra point of momentum she needed to at least revert to Normal momentum and resetting the two of them to a standing position, with Onoo stunned lightly to attempt her finisher.  Except Onoo didn’t kick out.  On a 3.6% (36/1000) chance of winning, Onoo rolled a 30 out of 1000 to escape the pin.  So a Small-size wrestler keeps a Big Heavyweight down with a Sunset Flip to score the win.  Just when you think you’ve seen almost everything in this game, something like this happens to prove you wrong.  Now, excuse me for a bit while I try to get back into character for the remaining five matches on the card…

Diamond (7-4) def. Jun Onoo (5-6) via Pinfall (Sunset Flip) in 10:44.  Rating: **

Changes for Diamond:  OVR + 4.01, XP + 557.92, no notable damage

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.48, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

e8cytyP.jpg (2) Mel O'Hallister (6-4, OVR 432)

vs.

(5) Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-5, OVR 425) ZThYhej.jpgAAdEYyr.jpg

The crowd was still buzzing over the events of the previous match as this one started, and from the opening bell it was clear that O’Hallister was off his game tonight.  A couple strings of offense were enough to open up a little more of his offensive arsenal, but by then it was too little too late, as a DDT rattled O’Hallister.  While the Irishman managed to avoid a Le Petit Mort, a missed knee drop on his bad knee left him down long enough for Ouilette to his Le Petit Mort on the second try, and drop O’Hallister out of second place in the division.

Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-5) def. Mel O'Hallister (6-5) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 10:48.  Rating: **

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 4.01, XP + 630.74, no notable damage

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.68, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

IgD64Oj.jpg (8) Reverend Johnny Gross (4-6, OVR 423)

vs.

(1) Brandy McDonald (7-3, OVR 434) TxXkh5U.jpg

Chance for McDonald to open some space up in the Alpha Division—a win here pushes her lead to two matches over second through fourth place with three weeks remaining. Gross is looking to escape last place in the division; a win here puts De’siree Mitchell into the relegation spot and creates a second three-way tie in the division. McDonald had to come from behind after the opening minutes of the contest, but the current Alpha Division leader showed why she has earned that spot, taking the offense Gross could dish out and eventually serving it back in the form of a Brandy with a Twist.  McDonald scores the pinfall, and now finds herself on the cusp of the Season Eight League Championship, with a chance to clinch it next week.

Brandy McDonald (8-3) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (4-7) via Pinfall (Brandy with a Twist) in 14:12.  Rating: **

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 4.20, XP + 730.22, no notable damage

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.56, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

dTs8j7q.jpgT127n44.jpg (1) Blood River (7-3, OVR 430)

vs.

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-4, OVR 425) giFlbJV.jpg

Pivotal matchup in the Gamma Division here, as the top two face off. With a win, Nakamatsu could flip the tiebreaker scenario around depending on the time. That would not end up being the case, as in a match that was too lengthy to be a squash, but too one-sided to be competitive, Blood River busted open Nakamatsu and dealt enough damage to likely keep Nakamatsu feeling remnants of the pain for a couple weeks to come.  An Offering finally, mercifully, put Yoshii down for three, and now River must contend with Diamond hot on his heels for the Gamma Division lead.

Blood River (8-3) def. Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-5) via Pinfall (The Offering) in 21:47.  Rating: **

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 4.63, XP + 564.02, no notable damage

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR -0.08, XP + 141.01, major damage to head, moderate damage to body

DELTA DIVISION

5MMzLA4.jpg7i2wu7j.jpg (7) Otto von Schwarz (3-7, OVR 417)

vs.

(1) Brian Blackfield (10-0, OVR 453) RdUenQh.jpg

Last time, it took Blackfield having to bust open Otto and force the ref to stop the match. Now that he had developed the wherewithal to go for a pin after a Tartan Effect, would this match go quicker, or would the added wrinkle be enough for Otto to pull the biggest upset of the season? It would be the former. Just a single Tartan Effect was enough to keep Otto down for three, and the streak goes to eleven, with the remaining members of the Delta Division’s Big Three coming up in the next two weeks.

Brian Blackfield (11-0) def. Otto von Schwarz (3-8) via Pinfall (Tartan Effect) in 10:51.  Rating: *

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 2.83, XP + 444.77, no notable damage

Changes for Otto von Schwarz:  OVR -0.86, XP + 111.19, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (3) Monty Dhillon (8-2, OVR 437)

vs.

(2) Christian Priest (8-2, OVR 439) NldKaI4.jpgAOP9il0.jpg

Winner of this main event contest would have the best chance of catching Brian Blackfield in the Delta Division.  High stakes—well, as high as they could be in the lowest division—at risk here as these two large men locked horns.

This was a close match, though not Match of the Night quality.  Dhillon jumped to an early advantage and Priest simply could not make it up in the end.  While Priest did connect with an Iconoclasm, Dhillon was able to respond with a Livewire Lariat, a vicious Hammer Mill, and stunned Priest with a backbreaker drop when the Empire Bomb failed to catch Priest napping. Three seconds later, Dhillon had avenged his loss to Priest earlier in the season, and found himself as the prime contender to dethrone Brian Blackfield in the Delta Division, especially with a match against the man in question looming next week…

Monty Dhillon (9-2) def. Christian Priest (8-3) via Pinfall (over shoulder backbreaker drop) in 15:50.  Rating: **

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 4.30, XP + 487.60, no notable damage

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR -0.08, XP + 121.90, minor damage to head and body

I plan to run the 75% of the card I can do after work this evening. So here are my picks in order:

ALPHA: McDonald, Nuclear, Mastachas, Pulsar

BETA: Norris, Simmons, O’Hallister, Ouilette

GAMMA: River, Onoo, Diamond, Gibson

DELTA: Blackfield, Priest, Silver, Nightmare. (Yes, folks, I think we see our first division clinched this week.)

EDITED TO ADD: Also, any thoughts on how the match headers were lined up for the last show? I’m still debating on adding colors there or just making it the division name only but by and large I think the layout this week worked better.

DELTA: Blackfield, Priest, Silver, Nightmare. (Yes, folks, I think we see our first division clinched this week.)

Not if I have anything to say about it!

"Blackfield! I had you beat last time we met, until that geek ref handed you the match!

Well you're not going to be so lucky this week. I'm going to hammer you to a pulp, then I'm going to bomb you into the stone age. Then everyone will see that Main Event Monty is the toughest dog in the Delta Division. Not you, punk. ME!!!"

Somewhere, Tori Montgomery sees this and wonders when the heck she started baring her midriff on TV after two children, lol.

EDIT: jokes aside though, that’s a good render. I presume you do a lot of it on the side?

I do C-Verse re-renders for the TEW series when I have time, which is not nearly often enough. I'm not an expert by any means.

The interviewer in the picture is Daphne Ellis. At least, that's the name that popped into my head while I was creating her. I didn't attempt Tori because A) I figured backstage interviews were below her paygrade, and more importantly, B) I have no idea what she's meant to look like.

The scene was intended as a fusion between a modern interview and an old-school "Mean Gene" type segment, with Dhillon bellowing nonsense and twisting facts like a Freddie Blassie protege. I don't know if that came through.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON EIGHT, WEEK TWELVE

DELTA DIVISION

Eda7f6d.jpg (5) The Siberian Nightmare (3-8, OVR 420)

vs.

(8) Sin (2-9, OVR 412) JpyUoje.jpg

Much like last week, Sin asked to wrestle this one off-camera.  Given the bloodletting last time, League officials thought it prudent.  What instead followed was twenty-five minutes of Sin being unable to get Nightmare into position for Depravity despite being mentally ready about twelve minutes in.  Nightmare eventually got tired of this and dropped Sin with his leaping piledriver to put an end to the farce.

The Siberian Nightmare (4-8) def. Sin (2-10) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 25:00.  Rating: **

Changes for The Siberian Nightmare:  OVR + 4.82, XP + 492.00, major damage to head, minor damage to body

Changes for Sin:  OVR -0.08, XP + 123.00, minor damage to head and body

DELTA DIVISION

5MMzLA4.jpg7i2wu7j.jpg (7) Otto von Schwarz (3-8, OVR 417)

vs.

 (4) Sterling Silver (5-6, OVR 424) va4qjuU.jpg

This one wasn’t really close.  Despite facing the largest man in The League, Silver looked to be the more aggressive of the two, battering Otto down with speedy strikes and quick impact moves.  The finish came soon enough, and a 450 splash brings Silver back to an even record on the season—something she would have told you was impossible after the first half of the season and a run by the Delta Division’s Big Three.

Sterling Silver (6-6) def. Otto von Schwarz (3-9) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 11:31.  Rating: **

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 4.05, XP + 485.53, no notable damage

Changes for Otto von Schwarz:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.38, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

AAdEYyr.jpgZThYhej.jpg (4) Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-5, OVR 429)

vs.

 (8) Indigo Rose (3-8, OVR 418) 2X2r9qf.jpg

The only thing that came as surprising in this match is that Rose managed to kick out of Le Petit Mort. Ouilette would not try it a second time, instead hitting his swinging neckbreaker flush to get the pinfall. This would have been a squash if not for Rose kicking out of the finisher, but it was not very competitive at all.

Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5) def. Indigo Rose (3-9) via Pinfall (Fleur de Lis) in 13:41.  Rating: **

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 4.18, XP + 632.54, no notable damage

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR -0.07, XP + 158.13, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

limej5G.jpgxd5Rq8a.jpg (4) Erick Gibson (5-6, OVR 421)

vs.

 (6) Diego Rodriguez (5-6, OVR 425) 9wxABJw.jpg

For the most part, this was one-sided.  Even with a ref bump, this was Erick Gibson’s match to lose.  He connected early with a Probationary Hearing, but missed his first two attempts at his finisher.  Then the ref got dropped after an errant low blow, and Diego made a minor comeback, though nowhere near putting Gibson in danger.

Turns out, he wouldn’t need to.  Gibson came charging in for a Terminable Offense, but Rodriguez sprung up at the last moment and rolled up Gibson with a small package.  The dramatic shift in momentum was enough for Rodriguez to get a three-count, and stun Gibson (who swore until he was red in the face that his shoulder was up) in the process with The League’s first dramatic comeback victory.

Diego Rodriguez (6-6) def. Erick Gibson (5-7) via Pinfall (small package) in 16:36.  Rating: **

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR + 4.34, XP + 561.16, major damage to head

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.29, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

 IgD64Oj.jpg (8) Reverend Johnny Gross (4-7, OVR 423)

vs.

 (5) Pulsar (5-6, OVR 424) VfA2MW8.jpg

Another referee found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time—this time, a victim of Gross moving out of the way and leaving the official exposed to a flying rana—meant that the match took a little longer than expected to finish.  The finish itself came after Gross had applied Come to Jesus, only for the ref to still be down and not see Pulsar tapping.  Barely thirty seconds after the ref finally came back to his senses, Gross applied the submission a second time and this time the ref called the bout when Pulsar simply passed out.  The win further clouds the bottom half of the Alpha Division standings.

Reverend Johnny Gross (5-7) def. Pulsar (5-7) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 14:54.  Rating: **

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR + 4.24, XP + 730.73, no notable damage

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.68, minor damage to head and body

ALPHA DIVISION

hlph25Q.jpg (3) George Mastachas (6-5, OVR 425)

vs.

 (7) De'siree Mitchell (4-7, OVR 419) p54rf5F.jpg

The Gross win was the worst result Mitchell could have asked for.  She’s guaranteed to be last in the division at the end of the week, the question was if would be by tiebreakers or by the outright worst record.  It didn’t help matters that a contender for the League Championship was her opponent and had every reason to win this match. Mitchell channeled her anger into this match, and it showed as Mastachas barely managed to get out of first gear before Mitchell cut him in half with the All Out Blitz.  While Mitchell may be in last place due to tiebreakers, she does ensure that Mastachas will not win the League Championship as he’s all but eliminated after this loss.

De'siree Mitchell (5-7) def. George Mastachas (6-6) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 15:08.  Rating: **

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 4.26, XP + 730.90, no notable damage

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR -0.08, XP + 182.72, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

V1I70uc.jpg (8) Jimmy Anarchy (3-8, OVR 416)

vs.

 (2) Diamond (7-4, OVR 434) 0rDaDU8.jpg

Anarchy got off to a quick start here, and maintained that slight edge throughout. Diamond made her comebacks, and nearly put Anarchy into danger, but that early edge was enough for the last-place entrant in the Gamma Division to hit his running big boot, get the pin, and throw the entire Gamma Division into total chaos.  Tori Montgomery would spend the entirety of the next commercial break trying to crunch numbers and get an idea of what to expect for other results, and still only ended up with limited information to work from.

Jimmy Anarchy (4-8) def. Diamond (7-5) via Pinfall (Final Step) in 12:23.  Rating: **

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR + 4.10, XP + 558.84, minor damage to head

Changes for Diamond:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.71, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

 e8cytyP.jpg (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-5, OVR 431)

vs.

 (6) Angela Wassermann (5-6, OVR 420) ZCYwviV.jpg

Just barely above a squash match, O’Hallister never looked in any serious danger throughout.  Three applications of the Irish Clover wore down Wassermann enough that a Dream of the Emerald Isle could finally land, and O’Hallister keeps the pressure on the upper half of the division with the win, showing he’s not ready to give it up just yet.

Mel O'Hallister (7-5) def. Angela Wassermann (5-7) via Pinfall (Dream of the Emerald Isle) in 13:30.  Rating: **

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR + 4.17, XP + 632.42, no notable damage

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR -0.07, XP + 158.11, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

DELTA DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH

AOP9il0.jpgNldKaI4.jpg (3) Christian Priest (8-3, OVR 439)

vs.

 (6) Sven Ulafsson (3-8, OVR 415) 9VJLBCy.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Next up on the card tonight is a first blood match—

Frankie Garnett: Ooh, yes, I like me some violence!

Bob Sinclair: --between Sven Ulafsson and Christian Priest.

Tori Montgomery: Priest needs a win here and a lot of help to remain in the hunt for the Delta Division title, gentlemen. The loss to Dhillon last week did him no favors.

Frankie Garnett: I hope your husband has his furniture insurance paid up, Tori. This may get ugly!

Tori Montgomery: Of course we do. It comes out of your paycheck after all.

Frankie Garnett: Hey, wait a minute!

Bob Sinclair: No time to wait, Frankie, the bell has rung and we’re underway here!

Tori Montgomery: And not a moment too soon, either. Too many more moves like that and we may be looking for Iconoclasms early here.

Frankie Garnett: Like that would help bust someone open, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: If you’re too stunned to avoid brass knuckles to the skull, Frankie, I’d say moves like that help enough!

Frankie Garnett:  …you got a point there.

Tori Montgomery: Priest has done his part in staying alive in the title hunt, now he needs Dhillon to stop the juggernaut that is Brian Blackfield!

Frankie Garnett: Face it, Tori. It’s not happening. 14-0 or bust!

Christian Priest (9-3) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-9) via First Blood (spinning elbow blow) in 16:47.  Rating: ***

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 5.89, XP + 628.73, minor damage to head and body

Changes for Sven Ulafsson:  OVR + 1.80, XP + 232.18, minor damage to body

GAMMA DIVISION

 giFlbJV.jpg (3) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-5, OVR 425)

vs.

 (7) Jun Onoo (5-6, OVR 430) zTBxNBX.jpg

It’s rare that the Match of the Night is followed immediately by a close contender for it, but that’s what we had here. This was a very even match that nearly ended several minutes earlier when Onoo seemed to have Nakamatsu locked in Lasting Agony.  The smaller man somehow managed an escape, avoided a second one and an IMPACT Driver before eventually landing the Emperor’s Fall for the pin to remain relevant in the Gamma Division hunt.  It took Nakamatsu a good five or six minutes to finally land his finisher, during which Onoo attempted a couple comebacks to no avail.

Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-5) def. Jun Onoo (5-7) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 15:18.  Rating: ***

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 5.52, XP + 607.15, minor damage to head

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR + 0.77, XP + 151.79, moderate damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

 OOiJTFx.jpg (2) Big Scott Weathers (6-5, OVR 431)

vs.

 (6) Nuclear Templeton (5-6, OVR 424) FqeSGy6.jpg

Mastachas losing earlier means this is a must-win for Weathers.  A win here keeps him (barely) in the hunt, a loss means the League Championship can be decided a few matches from now if Brandy McDonald wins.  Nuclear was out to play the ultimate spoiler tonight, but he would have to do it from behind, as Weathers raced out to an early advantage by using every trick he knew to avoid the referee’s eyes when he cheated.  Nuclear, having no such qualms about avoiding the official, pummeled his way back into the match slowly but surely, avoiding a Blackout at one point before hitting a Power Surge, and then a DDT.  One ripcord lariat later, Nuclear got the pin. It’s now on Brandy McDonald to finish the job, as Nuclear’s quest to play spoiler is successful!

Nuclear Templeton (6-6) def. Big Scott Weathers (6-6) via Pinfall (Armageddon Lariat) in 12:55.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.35, XP + 790.08, minor damage to head

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR + 0.74, XP + 197.52, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

 ha8RmaF.jpg (1) Daniel Simmons (8-3, OVR 440)

vs.

 (7) Markus Clay (3-8, OVR 417) N0Y594C.jpg

This one looked like it was just starting to get good when it suddenly ended.  Simmons had been on defense for a slight majority of the match, and after a flying clothesline only netted one, Clay weathered a brief comeback attempt before landing a springboard splash. He landed just flush enough to drive the wind from Simmons’ lungs, and a sudden three-count leads to an upset victory and a possible upheaval in both ends of the Beta Division!

Markus Clay (4-8) def. Daniel Simmons (8-4) via Pinfall (springboard splash) in 7:40.  Rating: **

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR + 3.83, XP + 628.78, no notable damage

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.20, no notable damage

GAMMA DIVISION

 LTFF6jR.jpg (5) El Tornado (5-6, OVR 425)

vs.

 (1) Blood River (8-3, OVR 435) T127n44.jpgdTs8j7q.jpg

This was fast-paced from the jump, and never slowed down in the ten minutes it took to have the match.  Tornado looked like he might have had the edge in taking down another division leader, but River showed why he’s leading the division for a reason here, gutting it out and eventually landing his top rope legdrop in a sprint of a match that was in contention for Match of the Night. The win coupled with Diamond’s loss earlier means that next week, River could clinch the Gamma Division title with a match to spare.

Blood River (9-3) def. El Tornado (5-7) via Pinfall (Crimson Regret) in 9:44.  Rating: ***

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 5.11, XP + 603.82, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR + 0.71, XP + 150.96, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

ayWv1C3.jpg (2) Billy Norris (7-4, OVR 431)

vs.

 (3) Terrance Stevens (6-5, OVR 431) ginc2gw.jpg

Norris had a chance to take the Beta Division lead with two weeks remaining, but had to get past a tough opponent in Terrance Stevens.  Neither man could get a lengthy string of offense going in this contest, and it was even throughout—the lack of sustained offenses ended up removing this from Match of the Night contention.  The end came down to Stevens making one mistake too many, and eating a Down Under Disaster for his troubles.  A slightly fast count from the ref didn’t help matters any, and Billy Norris emerges as the new Beta Division leader.

Billy Norris (8-4) def. Terrance Stevens (6-6) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 12:00.  Rating: **

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 4.08, XP + 631.49, minor damage to head

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.87, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

 TxXkh5U.jpg (1) Brandy McDonald (8-3, OVR 438)

vs.

 (4) The Mastodon (6-5, OVR 427) iLs7NYn.jpg

All the pressure was on young Brandy McDonald here.  A win, and she clinches the League Championship for Season Eight—she would have a three-match lead with only two weeks remaining. A loss, and it gives four other people a hope of somehow making a run in the last two weeks.

Much like Nuclear earlier, McDonald fought most of this match from behind.  Mastodon took an early advantage, weathered the offense McDonald threw at him, but was unable to connect with any of his signatures.  This opened the door for the current division leader, letting her back into the match as she mounted a comeback.  She hit her finisher once, prompting Mastodon to do into a Brian Blackfied-esque rage.  Unlike Blackfield, though, Mastodon was unable to capitalize on the occasion, and a second Brandy with a Twist followed. A few seconds later, it was official—we have a NEW League Champion!

Brandy McDonald (9-3) def. The Mastodon (6-6) via Pinfall (Brandy with a Twist) in 18:40.  Rating: **

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 4.46, XP + 733.44, no notable damage

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR -0.08, XP + 183.36, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

RdUenQh.jpg (1) Brian Blackfield (11-0, OVR 456)

vs.

 (2) Monty Dhillon (9-2, OVR 441) vz0qqDp.jpg

We’ve had one division clinched.  Could a second be in the making?  Blackfield needed a win to do it; a loss kept Dhillon and Priest still alive in the division.

The opening few minutes went back and forth evenly, with Blackfield being the first to go for some higher-damage moves; Dhillon followed only seconds later on his string of offense.  Just shy of fourteen minutes in, Dhillon hit the Livewire Lariat, and knowing what would happen if he hit an Empire Bomb later, went for the cover and only got two for his efforts.  It didn’t stop him from trying for the bomb, though, despite Blackfield’s regular counters against it.  Four minutes later, Blackfield connected with a DDT with the last bit of his stamina, and the impact busted Dhillon open.

That was like putting blood in the water near a great white shark as it seemed to revitalize Blackfield a little.  Blackfield dominated the next three minutes, hitting the Tartan Effect three different times but failing to score a pin off of any of them, all the while further widening the laceration on Dhillon’s forehead.  The fourth Tartan Effect got broken up, and Dhillon tried to stage enough of a comeback to consider his lariat, much less his finisher.  A Hammer Mill seemed to be putting him on the right track, but when Dhillon left his feet and went for a splash, Blackfield moved and that seemed to sap the last bit of fight from Dhillon. A feeble attempt at an Empire Bomb by Dhillon was easily countered, and a fourth successful Tartan Effect later, Blackfield fell into the cover and Dhillon simply could not kick out.  The streak moves to twelve straight, and Brian Blackfield ensures himself a place in the Gamma Division for season nine!

Brian Blackfield (12-0) def. Monty Dhillon (9-3) via Pinfall (Tartan Effect) in 25:09.  Rating: **

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 4.83, XP + 492.07, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR -0.09, XP + 123.02, major damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

y-1.  Brandy McDonald:  9-3, ATV 15:01, (AMR 2.250), OVR 442.74

2.  Nuclear Templeton:  6-6, ATV 13:11, (AMR 2.417), OVR 429.67

3.  Big Scott Weathers:  6-6, ATV 17:36, (AMR 2.417), OVR 431.34

4.  George Mastachas:  6-6, ATV 13:00, (AMR 2.000), OVR 424.54

5.  The Mastodon:  6-6, ATV 15:07, (AMR 2.000), OVR 426.50

6.  Reverend Johnny Gross:  5-7, ATV 18:08, (AMR 2.417), OVR 426.82

8.  De'siree Mitchell:  5-7, ATV 13:31, (AMR 2.167), OVR 423.00

CLINCH SCENARIOS:

League Championship: Brandy McDonald has clinched the League Championship with two weeks to go in the season.

Relegation: All eyes now turn to the bottom part of the division.  Among the bottom three, Gross holds the three-way-tiebreaker. Individually, each wins a tiebreaker over one, but loses to another. None of the bottom three face each other again this season, and each faces a foe who is 6-6 next week. It is statistically unlikely that the relegation spot will be secured next week, and it will be revisited after the week thirteen results are recorded.  Also to note—mathematically speaking, every competitor in the division save the League Champion could fall to last place by the end of the season at this point in time!

BETA DIVISION

x-1.  Daniel Simmons:  8-4, ATV 14:21 (AMR 2.417), OVR 439.63

x-2.  Billy Norris:  8-4, ATV 11:06 (AMR 2.333), OVR 435.24

x-3.  Jean-Paul Ouilette:  7-5, ATV 12:49 (AMR 2.333), OVR 432.83

6.  Angela Wassermann:  5-7, ATV 10:51 (AMR 2.000), OVR 420.00

7.  Markus Clay:  4-8, ATV 11:21 (AMR 2.417), OVR 421.00

8.  Indigo Rose:  3-9, ATV 14:47 (AMR 2.417), OVR 417.91

CLINCH SCENARIOS:

Division Title: Simmons win over Ouilette AND Norris loss AND O’Hallister loss. This would make Norris the only person who could equal Simmons’ record, but Norris loses the tiebreaker.  It seems rare that 75% of a division’s matches have to go a certain way to clinch a division in one week, but look at the Alpha Division this week for proof it can happen! O’Hallister is the only one in contention who cannot end week thirteen in the division lead, but he can put himself in contention to steal the title in the final week of the season if the results line up right. Stevens loses a three-way tiebreaker to Simmons and Norris both and as such is eliminated from title contention.

Relegation: Clay win OR Rose loss.  Clay has the tiebreaker, Rose must win her next two (including securing a tiebreaker over Wassermann) to have a hope of staying in the Beta Division next season.

GAMMA DIVISION

x-1.  Blood River:  9-3, ATV 13:09, (AMR 2.167), OVR 440.09

7.  El Tornado:  5-7, ATV 10:15, (AMR 2.500), OVR 426.05

8.  Jimmy Anarchy:  4-8, ATV 10:42, (AMR 2.417), OVR 420.56

CLINCH SCENARIOS:

Division Title: River win OR Diamond loss.  Now I know what you’re thinking.  How is Diamond still in contention when the person right above her isn’t?  Simple.  Nakamatsu cannot win a three-way tie, and also loses the individual tiebreaker to River.  Diamond actually has the slight edge in a solo tiebreaker against River despite also losing in a three-way tie.  So if Diamond wins out, River loses both remaining, and Nakamatsu only wins one of his next two, Diamond wins the division by a margin of three seconds.  Any other combination, and the cultist moves into the Beta Division.

Relegation: Anarchy loss.  If Anarchy loses his next bout, he loses tiebreakers to the only other people he could catch record-wise (whomever loses Onoo vs. Tornado). That would guarantee he drops to Delta.  The calculus changes if he wins a second time against Gibson and puts Erick in the danger spot, but the only sure-fire guarantee this upcoming week is an Anarchy loss relegates him.

DELTA DIVISION

y-1.  Brian Blackfield:  12-0, ATV 19:53 (AMR 2.250), OVR 461.09

8.  Sin:  2-10, ATV 19:58 (AMR 2.250), OVR 412.03

CLINCH SCENARIOS:

Brian Blackfield has clinched the division.  The only question remaining is if he can finish running the table.

FYI, I’ve opened sign-ups for Season Nine in the Rules thread. I’ve gone over some of the changes coming to The League in Season Nine there, and actual specifics will be edited into the official rules post after work tonight.

If y’all are planning to stick around another season, letting me know in one of these threads (or via other contact methods, for those using them) would be appreciated. 😄

Oh hey, Nuclear is doing that winning thing, shame he left it so late 😛 Sorry I've not done any predictions in a while, I keep forgetting to scroll far enough down on the site or only read the results quickly before I head to work.  Congrats to our division winners so far, I look forward to losing to you all again nex season :)

So, work dared to interrupt my mad spreadsheet crafting today, so I'm afraid I don't have as much detailed information as I'd like to share with you.  But as to what a guy can do when the Excel brain goblins demand to be loosed upon the world...

THE STATISTICS BEHIND PROMOTION/RELEGATION FOR SEASON EIGHT

ALPHA DIVISION

Contrary to the current standings, It is Mastodon (5th) and Pulsar (7th) who are most likely to finish with either the outright or joint-worst record in the division. This happens 164 out of 256 times, or just a touch over 64% of the time.  From there, it goes to Rev. Gross (6th) and Mitchell (8th) at 34.4% of scenarios, Nuclear (2nd) at 9.4% of scenarios, Mastachas (4th) at 7% of scenarios, and Weathers (3rd) at 6.3%.

These factors, as well as those in the other divisions I touch on, do not take into consideration any tiebreakers--this is straight up talking about the worst win/loss records.

If we're talking sole possession of the worst record in the division, and thus guaranteed relegation without fussing about with tiebreakers, Mastodon/Pulsar have that happen in 36 out of 256 scenarios (14.1%), while Gross and Mitchell get that in 12 out of 256 scenarios (4.7%)

BETA DIVISION

Daniel Simmons has the most scenarios in which he has the best record outright in the Beta Division: 72. Billy Norris has 64.  The two of them each have a total of 168 scenarios out of 256 in which they at least have a share of/outright hold the Beta Division's best record.

Jean-Paul Ouilette can win the Beta Division outright in just 8 out of 256 scenarios, a 3.1% frequency.

On the lower end, Indigo Rose will finish with the outright worst record in 168 scenarios, and be tied for the worst record in another 72.  The 240 out of 256 scenarios where she will hold at least a share of the Beta Division's worst record is a whopping 93.75% of scenarios.

Markus Clay holds a share of the worst record in 80 scenarios, with 16 of them being ones where he stands alone with the worst record.

Angela Wassermann cannot finish with the standalone worst record but can be tied for it in 24 scenarios (9.375%).

GAMMA DIVISION

The division really is Blood River's to lose. He's guaranteed to either have the best record outright or at least have a share of it, and in 87.5% or possible scenarios has the division won outright.

Diamond and Yoshii Nakamatsu can only tie for the best record in 16 out of 256 scenarios each (6.25%).

On the lower end, Jimmy Anarchy is most likely to finish with the worst record in the Gamma Division--in 43.75% of scenarios he has the worst record outright, and has at least a share of it in 81.25% of them. Also in the running to finish with a share of the division's worst record is Gibson (80 of 256 scenarios), Onoo and Tornado (60 of 256), and surprisingly, Rodriguez (6 of 256, none of which are him alone).

It will take a long while for me to set this up for a three-week scenario as that features a total of 4.096 scenarios to slog through. So that might be a Season Nine/Ten addition.

Paster Richards:

"Mr Blackfield, I've got a question to ask - What kind of a man hides behind the referee? Unable to defeat their opponent upon their own merits, forced to beg, plead, and pray for some form of DIVINE intervention to save the day. I'll tell you whom, not a fitting champion - that's for damn sure! And despite how the Delta Division's ended up, I'm glad - since luckily for you, the lord works in mysterious way and has provided us all with an opportunity. Christian Priest, our lord of the First Church is ready, to inflict unimaginable pain and suffering upon a false idol that;s managed to avoid the consequences of their actions. So far.

A just reward for your ill-gotten gains. Congratulations, I hope it was worth it".

Christian Priest

"Brian, you and your streak are an affront to everything we represent! Honour, Pride, and the Spirit of Professional Wrestling! Twice we've faced and twice you've had your hand raised - without defeating me. These corrupt referees can’t save you a third time – I won’t be denied. I WILL claim my pound of flesh and cut you down, cast aside at the altar of the First Church of Professional Wrestling. Your sacrifice will stand as an example for those that wish to stand in MY way and defy the Church."

THE LEAGUE: SEASON EIGHT, WEEK THIRTEEN

DELTA DIVISION

JpyUoje.jpg (8) Sin (2-10, OVR 412)

vs.

(7) Otto von Schwarz (3-9, OVR 416) 7i2wu7j.jpg5MMzLA4.jpg

The very definition of a throwaway match, Sin had some offense but once more struggled with a much larger opponent. Otto eventually put her away with Gute Nacht, and rumors began to spread that there was a better than average chance that Sin simply wouldn’t show up for her match and that she had accepted the fact that she was one-and-done in The League. This match did not make it to air on the actual broadcast and was only touched on briefly as once again there was no crowd in attendance to see this.

Otto von Schwarz (4-9) def. Sin (2-11) via Pinfall (Gute Nacht) in 13:16.  Rating: **

Changes for Otto von Schwarz:  OVR + 4.15, XP + 486.37, minor damage to head

Changes for Sin:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.59, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION CAGE MATCH

9VJLBCy.jpg (6) Sven Ulafsson (3-9, OVR 417)

vs.

(5) The Siberian Nightmare (4-8, OVR 425) Eda7f6d.jpg

This match served as the first actual “preshow” match for the in-person crowd.  Barely above a squash, though not by much, there was nothing interesting to write about here as Nightmare absolutely destroyed Ulafsson with ease and simply walked out of the cage after dropping his foe with that leaping piledriver of his. Highlights of this one were shown at the opening of the actual broadcast.

The Siberian Nightmare (5-8) def. Sven Ulafsson (3-10) via Cage Escape (Siberian Avalanche) in 10:33.  Rating: **

Changes for The Siberian Nightmare:  OVR + 4.00, XP + 485.06, no notable damage

Changes for Sven Ulafsson:  OVR + 0.63, XP + 121.27, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

2X2r9qf.jpg (8) Indigo Rose (3-9, OVR 418)

vs.

(6) Angela Wassermann (5-7, OVR 420) ZCYwviV.jpg

Another one in which only highlights were shown to start the show, Wassermann was only fighting against the clock.  She did not want to lose faster than Rose had lost to her earlier in the season. A win would be nice, sure, but knowing that she was not going to lose a tiebreaker to either Rose or Clay, and thus ensure she would remain in the Beta Division for another season, was the more important play in her mind.  So she fought on the defense for the majority, picking her spots as needed, but didn’t string enough offense together to be a threat.  It may be a mild upset, Rose beating Wassermann, but the German had done what she set out to do.  She had Rose by nearly four minutes in the tiebreaker and as such guaranteed that she could drop a division this season.  If Markus Clay won later on, it would be locked in, and Rose would be relegated to Gamma. Rose was not out of danger yet!

Indigo Rose (4-9) def. Angela Wassermann (5-8) via Submission (Vite d’Indaco) in 16:20.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 4.33, XP + 634.19, no notable damage

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR -0.08, XP + 158.55, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

V1I70uc.jpg (8) Jimmy Anarchy (4-8, OVR 421)

vs.

(6) Erick Gibson (5-7, OVR 421) xd5Rq8a.jpglimej5G.jpg

What started as an even match quickly became a near-rout.  Gibson poured the offense on, hitting elbows after backfists after piledrivers, but could not seem to hit the Terminable Offense on Anarchy. These constant misses allowed Anarchy to slowly get Gibson in a vulnerable state. After the fifth missed Terminable Offense of the match, Anarchy threw himself into a Final Step as an act of desperation, and somehow managed to catch Gibson unaware with it.  Three seconds later, Anarchy walked away with a victory that by all rights he did not deserve, and Gibson was left to wonder how he choked away another win this late in the season.  This was an early contender for Match of the Night.

Jimmy Anarchy (5-8) def. Erick Gibson (5-8) via Pinfall (Final Step) in 12:26.  Rating: ***

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR + 5.31, XP + 605.44, moderate damage to head

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 0.74, XP + 151.36, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

 zTBxNBX.jpg (5) Jun Onoo (5-7, OVR 431)

vs.

(7) El Tornado (5-7, OVR 426) LTFF6jR.jpg

With the Anarchy win moments ago, there was added pressure to win this match and possibly give the winner the tiebreaking advantage that might keep them in the Gamma Division for next season.  Jun certainly knew what was at stake, and wrestled accordingly.  Tornado never really had a chance to get into second gear, much less high gear, and Onoo won this one going away in something barely better than a squash.

Jun Onoo (6-7) def. El Tornado (5-8) via Pinfall (IMPACT Driver) in 9:07.  Rating: **

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR + 3.92, XP + 557.03, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.26, minor damage to body

ALPHA DIVISION

iLs7NYn.jpg (5) The Mastodon (6-6, OVR 427)

vs.

(7) Pulsar (5-7, OVR 424) VfA2MW8.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Another vital match in the race to avoid relegation in the Alpha Division, as the luchador Pulsar faces off with The Mastodon in a clash of styles.

Tori Montgomery: Mastodon won the first match between these two, using his size to his advantage.  The question tonight is if Pulsar has adjusted his gameplan with that in mind.

Frankie Garnett: Probably not, Tori.  How can you prepare for someone Mastodon’s size? Besides jumping at a brick wall and hoping it falls down, I mean.

Bob Sinclair: I think there’s more to it than that, Frankie, but we’ll discuss that as this match progresses, as the bell sounds to get us underway!

Bob Sinclair: Not even in this division.  Nuclear’s just a slight bit smaller than Mastodon, after all.

Frankie Garnett: I didn’t come here for logic, Bob!

Bob Sinclair: I thought he was starting to tire after that missed Rampage, Tori, but he still had enough momentum to carry on to the finish!

Frankie Garnett: Just like I told you. When are you going to learn to listen to me?

Tori Montgomery: I have that penciled in for the fourteenth of Never, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Hey!

Bob Sinclair: The Mastodon ensures he’s not being demoted next week, as well as ensuring he cannot finish with a losing record as he picks up a huge win here tonight!

The Mastodon (7-6) def. Pulsar (5-8) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 20:08.  Rating: ***

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR + 5.88, XP + 945.70, minor damage to head and body

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR + 0.81, XP + 348.93, minor damage to head and body

This was the Match of the Night (2 [2nd this season] for The Mastodon, 1 [1st this season] for Pulsar)

ALPHA DIVISION

p54rf5F.jpg (8) De'siree Mitchell (5-7, OVR 423)

vs.

(3) Big Scott Weathers (6-6, OVR 431) OOiJTFx.jpg

With Mastodon winning, Mitchell had a chance to get out of a tie for the worst record in the Alpha Division, if she could find a way around Weathers. For the opening few minutes, it seemed like she had found the key to beating Weathers.  Then he got a string of sustained offense in and never lost the advantage in the match for the remainder.  Mitchell couldn’t string any offense together long enough to capitalize on the lone Goal Line Stand she connected with, but actually kicked out of a Blackout before the second one did the job, forcing her into a must-win next week.

Big Scott Weathers (7-6) def. De'siree Mitchell (5-8) via Pinfall (Blackout) in 15:37.  Rating: **

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR + 4.28, XP + 731.24, no notable damage

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR -0.08, XP + 182.81, moderate damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

FqeSGy6.jpg (2) Nuclear Templeton (6-6, OVR 430)

vs.

(6) Reverend Johnny Gross (5-7, OVR 427) IgD64Oj.jpg

Another Match of the Night contender, this was another one that seemed like it was one-sided at the start. Nuclear would not get Gross get any offense in, but the Right Reverend eventually found his spots and got some blows in, even going for the knees of Nuclear a few times.  But the early onslaught of offense was too much for Gross to fully overcome, and a Radiation Leak finished the job.  The win assures Nuclear that he cannot be relegated to the Beta Division this season, and has a shot of redemption in Season Nine and taking the League Championship.

Nuclear Templeton (7-6) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (5-8) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 13:19.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.38, XP + 790.39, no notable damage

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR + 0.75, XP + 197.60, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

N0Y594C.jpg (7) Markus Clay (4-8, OVR 421)

vs.

(1) Billy Norris (8-4, OVR 435) ayWv1C3.jpg

Astute readers may look at the header and think “wait a minute. Simmons is listed as leading the Beta Division. What gives?”  The answer is simple human error.  The author was distracted by his cat last week when getting the division standings put together, and misread who belonged to which row for the leading tiebreaker. It’s actually Norris leading via a three-and-a-half-minute margin of victory time.

Now having said that, Clay was the one who came out fighting like he had the division lead, and one certainly couldn’t blame him.  After all, a win here for Clay guaranteed that Rose would be relegated out of the Beta Division.  Clay had the advantage about eight minutes in, and seemed to be cruising towards an upset of the division leader.  But Norris isn’t where he is for no reason, and stormed back, thwarting a couple high-risk moves from Clay and eventually landing the Down Under Disaster. The Beta Division is Norris’s to lose, and Clay finds himself in jeopardy come next week!

Billy Norris (9-4) def. Markus Clay (4-9) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 12:23.  Rating: **

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 4.10, XP + 631.73, minor damage to head

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.93, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ginc2gw.jpg (5) Terrance Stevens (6-6, OVR 431)

vs.

(4) Mel O'Hallister (7-5, OVR 436) e8cytyP.jpg

The Norris win eliminated Stevens from title contention.  O’Hallister still had a chance if he could win. O’Hallister seemed in clear control for the majority of the match, though he did let Stevens have a chance to get some shine in.  The stubborn Irishman would simply refuse to stay down, though, and eventually connected with the Dream to move to 8-5 on the season and keep hope alive for one more week.

Mel O'Hallister (8-5) def. Terrance Stevens (6-7) via Pinfall (Dream of the Emerald Isle) in 14:32.  Rating: **

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR + 4.22, XP + 633.07, no notable damage

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR -0.07, XP + 158.27, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (3) Diamond (7-5, OVR 434)

vs.

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-5, OVR 430) giFlbJV.jpg

Critical match for Diamond here.  She needs to win this to remain in the hunt to topple Blood River.  This would be one of four total results she would need to pull it off:  win here against Nakamatsu, River loses tonight, River loses next week, Diamond wins next week.  If even one of those goes the other way, River wins the division.

This started out with Diamond on fire, dominating the early first minutes.  Now, if you’ve read all the match summaries to this point, you may know what’s about to happen as it’s been a recurring theme.  Diamond burned most of her momentum early, allowed Nakamatsu back into the contest, and being small enough was vulnerable to both of Nakamatsu’s finishers.  It was only a matter of time before one of them would connect if Diamond couldn’t string together some offense.  That ended up being the case, as the ninth attempt at a finisher by Nakamatsu finally landed, and in one fell swoop handed the Gamma Division crown to Blood River without the masked man ever having to step in the ring this week!

Yoshii Nakamatsu (8-5) def. Diamond (7-6) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 14:28.  Rating: **

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 4.22, XP + 559.99, minor damage to head

Changes for Diamond:  OVR -0.07, XP + 140.00, moderate damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (3) Monty Dhillon (9-3, OVR 441)

vs.

(4) Sterling Silver (6-6, OVR 428) va4qjuU.jpg

Dhillon was guaranteed to finish no worse than third in the division, and no better than second. Silver could still theoretically be caught by Nightmare for fourth place. It took about six minutes for those in attendance, as well as those watching at home, to realize that Dhillon seemed to be merely going through the motions.  Apparently, the loss to Blackfield last week took the starch out of him, and he didn’t give Silver as much of a fight as one might expect from his record this season. Sure, he hit a Livewire Lariat and in one particularly highlight-worthy counter thwarted Silver’s 450 Splash by rushing the corner and hitting a top rope fallaway slam, but those were about his only highlights of the night.  Silver battered him for the most part and finally hit her 450 to get the pin and ensure she finished in the top half of the Delta Division this season.

Sterling Silver (7-6) def. Monty Dhillon (9-4) via Pinfall (On Wings of Silver) in 22:42.  Rating: **

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 4.69, XP + 490.90, minor damage to head

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR -0.08, XP + 122.72, major damage to head, minor damage to body

GAMMA DIVISION

9wxABJw.jpg (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-6, OVR 430)

vs.

(1) Blood River (9-3, OVR 440) T127n44.jpgdTs8j7q.jpg

The newly-crowned Gamma Division champion could have taken it easy tonight, tried to save parts of his body from being pummeled, but Rodriguez forced his hand by taking the early advantage.  River had to fight from behind in the last half of the match, eventually wore Rodriguez down, and delivered his top rope legdrop to get the pin and show that he intends to be a force in the Beta Division next season. The loss for Rodriguez, combined with other Gamma Division results this week, puts him at a very slim but non-zero chance of actually being relegated to Delta Division. All of that gets broken down at the division standings portion of this post!

Blood River (10-3) def. Diego Rodriguez (6-7) via Pinfall (Crimson Regret) in 13:27.  Rating: **

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 4.16, XP + 559.42, no notable damage

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.86, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

ALPHA DIVISION

hlph25Q.jpg (4) George Mastachas (6-6, OVR 425)

vs.

(1) Brandy McDonald (9-3, OVR 443) TxXkh5U.jpg

The League Champion came out for her match with the official League Championship belt in her possession, having clinched the championship last week.  Mastachas took that personally, it seemed like, as he brought the fight to McDonald in this one.  Brandy would be first to go for her finisher, but when she failed to connect on three occasions, and Mastachas finally managed to hit his on the fourth try, the League Champion found herself staring at the lights in her first official appearance with the belt.  Apparently, it makes you more of a target, carrying that around. Who knew?

George Mastachas (7-6) def. Brandy McDonald (9-4) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 17:18.  Rating: **

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 4.38, XP + 732.46, minor damage to head

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR -0.08, XP + 183.11, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ha8RmaF.jpg (2) Daniel Simmons (8-4, OVR 440)

vs.

(3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5, OVR 433) ZThYhej.jpgAAdEYyr.jpg

This was a Match of the Night contender, and rightly so.  It had a little bit of everything—back and forth offense, hope spots, shine spots, a long string of reversals, and even a ref bump.  It’s the last that will be remembered in this match, and what fans will say is what ultimately cound decide the Beta Division.  Ouilette reversed a corner Irish whip, sending Stevens into the official.  With the ref down, Simmons took charge of the match, beating Ouilette several ways from Sunday with drops and strikes.  A spinning elbow blow did nothing for him since the ref was still out, and an eventual Quitting Time also did nothing despite Ouilette frantically tapping out.  The ref would come to about twenty seconds later, right after a Ouilette low blow.  A few more strikes followed that, and then a Le Petit Mort.  This time the official was awake to see it, count the pin, and Jean-Paul Ouilette steals the win from Simmons here! With the other results this evening in this division, the title is not yet clinched and will go to week 14 to decide it!

Jean-Paul Ouilette (8-5) def. Daniel Simmons (8-5) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 15:03.  Rating: ***

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 5.50, XP + 686.17, minor damage to head

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 0.76, XP + 171.54, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

Many considered this the last realistic chance anyone had of ending Blackfield’s perfect season.  A Priest win would finish locking in the upper half of the Delta Division standings and bring Blackfield’s run to a screeching halt, a Blackfield win meant that it would fall to Sven Ulafsson as the final chance to stop a perfect run in the lowest division.

In what would go down as one of the most bizarre finishes in The League this season, Priest looked to continue pressing the advantage over Blackfield.  He was still fresh enough that he could hit a finisher, weather the adrenaline rush from Blackfield, and still be able to fight out of any Tartan Effects that could be thrown at him.  It was this train of thought that convinced Priest to go for his Judgement powerbomb.  Only as Priest hoisted Blackfield up, the Scot shifted his weight enough to cause Priest to stagger backwards and lose his balance, falling to the mat with Blackfield on top in a pinning predicament.  And Priest got a shoulder up a split-second after three.  (Game speak: the to win roll was 27, with 43 or under needed.)  Blackfield himself didn’t seem to believe it, but replays showed the home audience that yes, that was a thing that just happened, and Brian Blackfield has to feel like he stole a win in week thirteen to remain perfect on the season!

Brian Blackfield (13-0) def. Christian Priest (9-4) via Pinfall (countered Judgement by falling on top) in 14:30.  Rating: **

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 4.22, XP + 486.96. minor damage to head and body

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.74, no notable damage

8.  De'siree Mitchell:  5-8, ATV 13:31, (AMR 2.154), OVR 422.92

RELEGATION SCENARIOS:

Gross wins tiebreaker over Pulsar and the three-way tie breaker.  Pulsar wins the tiebreaker over Mitchell. Mitchell wins individual tiebreaker over Gross. There are eight decision scenarios that are relevant here, as outlined below. The other match result does not factor into these, and as observed, it’s Mitchell who is most at risk here with a 50/50 shot of being relegated:

  • Mitchell loss, Pulsar loss, Gross loss: Mitchell is relegated due to tiebreakers
  • Mitchell loss, Pulsar loss, Gross win: Mitchell is relegated due to tiebreaker against Pulsar (sweep)
  • Mitchell loss, Pulsar win, Gross loss: Gross is relegated due to tiebreaker against Mitchell (56 seconds)
  • Mitchell loss, Pulsar win, Gross win: Mitchell is relegated due to outright worst record
  • Mitchell win, Pulsar loss, Gross loss: Pulsar is relegated due to tiebreaker (sweep)
  • Mitchell win, Pulsar loss, Gross win: Pulsar is relegated due to outright worst record
  • Mitchell win, Pulsar win, Gross loss: Gross is relegated due to outright worst record
  • Mitchell win, Pulsar win, Gross win: Mitchell is relegated due to tiebreakers

x-1.  Billy Norris:  9-4, ATV 11:15 (AMR 2.308), OVR 439.34

x-4.  Mel O'Hallister:  8-5, ATV 13:07 (AMR 2.462), OVR 439.87

7.  Markus Clay:  4-9, ATV 11:21 (AMR 2.385), OVR 420.93

8.  Indigo Rose:  4-9, ATV 15:10 (AMR 2.385), OVR 422.24

DIVISION TITLE SCENARIOS:

The only reason the Beta Division doesn’t have 16 scenarios is because two contenders face each other next week (O’Hallister vs. Norris).  So let’s break those scenarios down like I did above.

  • Norris win, regardless of other results (4 scenarios total): Norris wins promotion via outright best record. The simplest solution of the eight scenarios available as Norris wins in 4 of the 8.
  • O’Hallister win (Norris loss), Ouilette N/A, Simmons loss: O’Hallister wins promotion either in three-way tiebreaker or via sweep over Norris.  Ouilette cannot win the three-way tiebreaker so that match is irrelevant.  This covers 2 more scenarios.
  • O’Hallister win (Norris loss), Ouilette win, Simmons win: Ouilette wins promotion due to four-way tiebreaker (4-2 combined record)
  • O’Hallister win (Norris loss), Ouilette loss, Simmons win: Simmons wins promotion due to three-way tiebreaker (3-1 combined record)

RELEGATION SCENARIOS:

Indigo Rose is relegated with loss OR Clay win.

Markus Clay is relegated with loss AND Rose win.

8.  El Tornado:  5-8, ATV 10:15, (AMR 2.462), OVR 425.98

Anarchy’s win throws a wrench into the works. All four matches have relevance in the Gamma Division relegation battle in week 14! Feel free to skip this unless you want to read a lot of words that have no relevance to any PCs.  TL;DR version: Tornado drops in 44% of scenarios, Gibson in 25%, Anarchy in 25%, Rodriguez in 6%. Onoo is safe.
