From Gerweck.net Press Conference With New Head Booker Of TNA Highlights Source TNAwrestling.com TNA held a Press Conference this afternoon before the iMPACT! tapings with their new Head Booker Robert Nigro. Nigro answered some major questions and here are some of the highlights: Someone asked how TNA got the new 2-Hour slot. Robert said that that happened before he was brought in but from what he understands it was just part of the natural evolution. Spike wanted to see how well TNA would do in the ratings before taking that plunge and giving them a 2-hour slot. Someone asked what direction Robert would be taking the company. Nigro said that he always hated politics and that is the first thing that is going to go. Everybody will get their chance to shine based on their ability and charisma. Nobody will be left out in the cold. He promised that the NEW TNA would deliver where nobody else in the world delivered today. Someone asked if TNA had any plans to try and bring in anybody else to join the roster now that they have more time. Robert said that TNA was always looking for the next big breakout star and he also emphasized that anything can happen in TNA so keep watching. Nigro ended the conference by telling everybody to make sure they tune into iMPACT! this Thursday night to see the start of the future of TNA!. Overall the feel of the Press Conference was upbeat. It seems that the sky is the limit for TNA right now.

The X-Division was in full force in this match. Alex Shelly has a great mat game and Jay Lethal gets better all the time. This time however is was not who was better in the ring, but the interference from Kevin Nash at ringside that put this match in Shelly’s favor. Shelly distracted the ref saying that he hurt his ankle. That prompted Nash to climb over the ropes and hit Lethal with a low blow putting him down. Shelly then came in and hit the Shellshock for the victory. Cornett says that for too long TNA has been run by political BS that has worked in the favor of Jeff Jarrett, and unfortunately that political BS has once again worked in Jeff’s favor so with great displeasure he gives the title to Jarrett. He then says that now that that little piece of unpleasant business is out of the way he has a couple of things he wants to address. The first being Kevin Nash and his was on the X-Division. He says that Kevin came pounding on his door after Chris Sabin laid the bomb that their match at Victory Road was going to be a loser leaves TNA match. He says that he listened to Nash’s points on why this match should not happen and came to this conclusion…it will go down at Victory Road! Kevin Nash gets pissed off at ringside and has to be held back. Cornett says to let him go because it will be the last punch he ever throws in TNA. He says the reason it will go down is because just like Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash is a cancer that is eating away at TNA and it has to be cut away and Chris Sabin is just the man to do it. Next order of business is the NWA World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels. It seems that there aren’t any teams that stick out as the #1 Contenders right now. So next week there will be a 4-Way tag team match to determine who will face AJ and Daniels at the PPV and it will be between The James Gang, The Naturals, Team 3D and Aries & Strong. AMW start to throw a tantrum at ringside. Cornett says the reason that AMW is not in that match is because after losing the rematch, they are now pushed to the back of the line for title shots. Cornett spots Jarrett & Steiner getting ready to leave and tells him to wait a moment because he is not done with them yet. It seems that there’s a number of individuals that are vying for a shot at the NWA World Title. So at Victory Road there are going to be two matches. The first is going to be a 4-Way to determine the #1 Contender and then the next match will be against Jeff Jarrett for the Title on the very same night. The 4 individuals are Sting, Scott Steiner, Christian Cage and…. Samoa Joe! At this the crowd explodes and chants of ‘Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe” can be heard throughout the arena. Robert sat in his office wondering what went wrong. Was it too soon to start touring? Did he not have enough recognizable talent on the show? What their not enough action? Regardless of what the reason was, the fan reaction was not what he expected last night. After watching Monday Night Raw on his DVR he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that his product was better, but for some reasons the fans did not click with the athletes last night. Oh there were some good matches on RAW last night. The Johnny Nitro John Cena match was very good and had a surprise ending when they put Nitro over. However overall the quality of in ring talent was much better on Impact. Raw scored a 3.2 on USA last night, he was going to have to wait and see if the public will show half of that interest in Impact on Thursday. Well that’s enough of dwelling on the past; it was time to look to the future. He knew next week was going to be big with the Tag Team Main Event, and he had a couple of other good matches on the card as well. But would the fans be interested? It was time to pull out the big guns and Roberts knew it. He looked at his appointment book and saw 4 names for the coming week, 2 of which could change the tide in his favor in this struggle to make it. The first two are from the group the WWE just released last night. The first was Joey Styles, a great announcer who the fans knew and respected. He would be a great addition to West and Tenay and if they could land him it would further solidify what everybody has been saying, and that’s that the heart and soul of ECW is here in TNA. The next was a man exemplified what Extreme was all about back in the 90’s, and unfortunately he has been out of action for quite a while, but if he could talk him into going back into the ring… That man was Taz, the Human Suplex Machine! The next two guys have been away from wrestling for a few years now but there names were still huge and getting bigger every day. The first was Lion Heart Chris Jericho and the second was non other than The Rock! Robert knew that even a few appearances by The Rock would boost ratings and bring back that old saying in TNA that anything can happen. Jericho has been saying that he does not miss wrestling, but Robert knew better. Once it’s in your blood it never leaves. Ask Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and the countless others that have stayed around. He just had to find the right way to talk Jericho into coming back. This next week is going to be interesting.

Good diary. I hope Jericho and The Rock aren't in there full time, and just win a few matches and then lose to someone you're pushing(IE Samoa Joe). I like realism, and either way is fine. But to see A Jericho/Joe match and a The Rock/Sting match gives me an immediate crush on this diary, not even mentioning a Taz - Raven/Rhino/Sting/Shane Douglas(Winner is the new partner of Mikey Tenay and Don West) The vision of Taz locking in the Tazmission, then Sting getting out.. Stinger Splash and the like is just a beauty.

From Gerweck.net Is ECW Dead? Source: The Wrestling Insider Is ECW dead before it even had a chance to begin? That’s the big question on every bodies mind as of lately and the big E is doing nothing to squash those rumors. Piggybacking on news report from about a week ago, Paul Heyman had virtually no booking power (this was before his release by the WWE two days ago), and was considered an “Advisor”. Tommy Dreamer had no power at all (again this was before his release as well) and was only an on-air talent. Now the big E has released a huge amount of its roster, most of them ECW workers. This came on the heels of the news that ECW was now going to be book as an extension to Raw and Smackdown. Why would this happen? Why would Vince McMahon, the genius, not give ECW a chance to differentiate itself from the WWE? Why would he thin the already small rosters of Raw & Smackdown to put them on ECW? The answer to this question, much like many other questions when it comes to this business, is money. Vince is not a stupid man. He is not the booking genius that he once was but that still does not make him an idiot. When he saw the interest in ECW continue to rise after the first 1 Night Stand over a year ago he saw what could have been a cash cow. Then after ECW DVD sales outsold WWE DVD sales he knew that something was still there. So he decided to bring it back. What a glorious day in professional wrestling history! ECW was going to be on Sci-Fi! How cool is that! Oh what a minute, that’s not cool at all. Ok lets pass that. The ECW debut was off the charts and delivered on all cylinders and showed what ECW was all about! Oh wait, no it wasn’t. We saw a guy called The Zombie get beat up by The Sandman. So what went wrong? ECW should have been huge instead we now have Undertaker taking on Finlay in the main event. How in the hell did a Smackdown match get to ECW!? Well the answer to that one is simple as well and has three parts. 1) The WWE rushed this product onto television and did not find the right carrier to air ECW. Instead they put it on a network that never had and never will have any relation to pr-wrestling. 2) They taped it the same night and at the same arena as Smackdown. ECW was at its best in the smaller arenas. It was more intimate and you knew that the reason that place was packed was because every ECW fan shoved their fat as* into that arena to watch Tommy Dreamer beat the living hell out of Raven. The big arenas take away any and all feel that this is ECW. It would be like if TNA started to run shows in huge arenas, it just would not be the same. 3) And this is the most important one, Vince did not hand the reigns over to Paul Heyman. Paul should have been in charge of everything, from hiring the talent to putting on the shows to making up the merchandise. Paul would have done it right and Paul would have made it successful. I have to feel bad for Paul because it was obvious that he wanted this to work and he believed McMahon when he said Paul would be in charge. He really wanted ECW to take off again and he knew he could do it this time because he had money this time to back him up! However Vince was looking for a reason to once again say the WWE is better than…(insert company name here) and he sabotaged ECW every chance he got, from flooding it with WWE guys to the arena tapings and everything else in between. So is ECW dead before it had a chance to begin. In one word…Yes. Wednesday, Week 1, July 2006

From Gerwick.net TNA Makes Huge Signing Source: TNAwrestling.com TNA made three major signings today. Two of those were Cheerleader Melissa (signifying the much rumored start of a TNA Woman’s division) and The American Dragon Bryan Danielson. However the biggest signing was Lionheart Y2J Chris Jericho. TNA is scrambling to change plans for this weeks Impact and to get a quick feud going with somebody in the company so they can have him on the Victory Road PPV. The biggest candidate for a match right now is Petey Williams but that could change at any time. TNA are holding the contents of the contract close to their chests right now, but I would not expect Y2J to be a major part of the company. Thursday, Week 1, July 2006

From Gerweck.net TNA To Hold Closed Door Meetings With The Rock Source: The Wrestling Insider At 3pm today, TNA head booker Robert Nigro had a one on one closed door meeting with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. What was discussed in the meeting is still unknown but sources say that when the two came out they were laughing like two old friends. Some people close to Robert say that he has been authorized to use of an exorbitant amount of money from the Carters and Spike TV respectively to start bringing in bigger talent and names. If this means that they offered The Rock a contract is unknown, but it is highly unlikely considering The Rocks movie career is still booming. Friday, Week 1, July 2006

Friday, Week 1, July 2006 Robert was conflicted with emotions. On one hand the ratings were not so hot. Spikes not complaining yet but its only a matter of time. However on the other hand, the signings went very well this past week. He was able to get his hands on some premo talent and some really good recognizable names. Plus the names that he got actually aren’t that bad in the ring, they are right along the lines of Sting and Christian, not like that walking steroid Steiner (even though Joe got a very good match out of him last month, buy Joe can get a good match out of a paper bag). Now came the difficult part, putting it all together. But with all this talent, that was going to be the fun part!
