The Grey Dog

Recommended Posts

Or Grey Dogs I should say. As a proud pet parent, I'd like to share what gives Arlie his inspiration. This is Principessa, or Pessa as we call her. Her racing name was Primetime Dash. She was never fast enough to qualify to race, or would stop at the starting gate and roll around in the dirt instead of running. Needless to say she was retired young - at 2 years old. When we brought her home she was very shy and a little distructive. Used to being in a kennel with hundreds of other dogs, she was having a hard time adjusting to being the only dog. But now is just a fantastic dog! The last time we clocked her speed, Pessa was running at 24mph, below average for a female racer. Her racing name was R.D.'s Dodger, named after the kennel from which she came. She raced until she broke some toes and tore a muscle in her left hind leg during a collision with another dog. We adopted her two months after Pessa because Pessa was having a hard time adjusting to being the only dog. Dodger loves to play catch with Arlie and goes nuts when she hears the leash being pulled out of the cabinet. The last time we clocked her speed, she was still running over 29mph, on the high end for a female racer. Not bad for a gimp! :) http://www.400softwarestudios.com/dogphotos/Dodger - MMMM Letuce.jpg

How is not liking the look of a breed of dog (or particular dogs) qualify as trolling? I'm a big dog lover, but I've never found greyhounds to be a particularly attractive breed. That's not to say they can't be great dogs...all dogs have that potential, from the most ugly mutt to the porsche of dogs (Dobermen, for my money) - that's the best thing about dogs. I applaud you and Mr. Rahn for your devotion to your two dogs, and I've no doubt they're great ones - but no need to get worked up because someone doesn't like the look of 'em. :) Irish

Anything he posts is pretty much intended to piss someone off. Couple that with the IM he sent me two minutes before his post, asking me why I posted my "ugly dogs"...I can pretty much go out on that limb and say he was trolling.

Very cute dogs farrah, I also have a little dog at home which is a mixed breed between a begal and a basset hound. I spoil my dog a little too much even though I know it's not the best for him although I can't help it. Your dogs probably give you and Arlie lots of company.

I for one think that any couple willing to adopt two dogs who were essentially "in the outs" with their "career" of racing is doing a great job ... I've always thought it was terrible how race-dogs are treated when they can't race anymore. I've never owned a dog (I'm a cat person) but I think it's wonderful that you've given two dogs a chance to be in a family.
