Southeastern - Winner only to advance Round 1 #1 Bob Armstrong VS #8 Ken Wayne #4 Ken Lucas VS #5 Randy Rose #3 Mr. Olympia VS #6 Ricky Gibson #2 Jimmy Golden VS #7 Steve Armstrong Thoughts: Ah, Southeastern. I remember watching this territory when I was younger so I'm up on all of these guys. Armstrong, Golden, and Stubbs (as Olympia) all have a good shot of getting in. Should be a good tournament.

WWC Puerto Rico - Only winner will advance Round 1 #1 Carlos Colon VS #8 Medic #2 #4 Los Infernos #1 VS #5 Herculeus Ayala #3 Abdullah the Butcher VS #6 Invader #1 #2 Bruiser Brody VS #7 Invader #2 Thoughts: Violence should reign supreme. A second round match with Abby and Brody should be vicious and I say the winner of that match takes it all.

UWA Mexico - Only winner will advance Round 1 #1 Dos Caras VS #8 Dr. Wagner Jr. #4 El Solitario VS #5 Enrique Vera #3 Canek VS #6 Perro Aguayo #2 Vilano III VS #7 Black Man Thoughts: I am familiar with a few of the names here but judging from the caliber of wrestlers it should be a blockbuster tournament. Only one will advance - this one should be one of the better smaller tournaments.

CWA - Top 2 advance Round 1 #1 Jerry Lawler VS #16 Koko B. Ware #8 Robert Gibson VS #9 Dennis Condrey #6 Randy Savage VS #11 Bill Dundee #4 Stan Lane VS #13 Lanny Poffo #3 Steve Keirn VS #14 Rick Rude #5 Jos Leduc VS #12 Bobby Eaton #7 Dutch Mantell VS #10 Ricky Morton #2 Austin Idol VS #15 Phil Hickerson Thoughts - with only 2 transferring this WILL be one of the most hotly contested qualifying tournaments. No need to guess because with this competition I'd just be wrong anyway. Upsets shouldn't be uncommon though.

Calgary Stampede - Top 2 advance Round 1 #1 Bret Hart VS #16 Ben Bassarab #8 Loch Ness Monster VS #9 Jim Neidhart #6 Dynamite Kid VS #11 Makhan Singh #4 The Great Gama VS #13 Owen Hart #3 Mr. Hito VS #14 Steve Disalvo #5 Bad News Allen VS #12 Hiro Saito #7 Bruce Hart VS #10 Davey Boy Smith #2 The Mongolian Stomper VS #15 The Cobra Thoughts - Another qualifier where the men will have to knuckle up to get it done. Stu Hart has some great wrestlers in his pipeline for this qualifier and I expect at least two or three A matches.

Inoki should at least get to the final four here as should Fujinami.

AWA - Top 4 transfer Round 1 #1 Nick Bockwinkel VS #16 Steve Regal #8 Jerry Blackwell VS #9 David Shultz #6 Baron Von Raschke VS #11 Mr. Saito #4 Rick Martel VS #13 Jim Brunzell #3 Ken Patera VS #14 Billy Robinson #5 Jesse Ventura VS #12 Brad Rheingans #7 Greg Gagne VS #10 Curt Henning #2 Hulk Hogan VS #15 Big Scott Hall Thoughts - The AWA tournament should see Bockwinkel make it to the big show. An interesting first round matchup with Hogan and Scott Hall 13 years before they together created one of the most influential groups in wrestling history.

I predect one of the top 4 seeds to take this one though.

Georgia - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Tommy Rich VS #16 Bruno Sammartino Jr. #8 Ronnie Garvin VS #9 Ole Anderson #6 Jake Roberts VS #11 Arn Anderson #4 Mr. Wrestling II VS #13 Thunderbolt Patterson #3 Larry Zbyszko VS #14 Les Thorton #5 The Spoiler VS #12 Road Warrior Hawk #7 Paul Orndorff VS #10 Road Warrior Animal #2 Buzz Sawyer VS #15 Brett Wayne Thoughts - This should be another good qualifying tournament. Plenty of possibilities for some upsets and great second round matches. I say Mr. Wonderful Orndorff shocks the world from the 7 hole and takes it all.

WWF - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Bob Backlund VS #16 Rene Goulet #8 The Iron Shiek VS #9 Pedro Morales #6 Afa VS #11 Tony Atlas #4 Sgt. Slaughter VS #13 Ivan Putski #3 Andre the Giant VS #14 SD Jones #5 Jimmy Snuka VS #12 Nikolai Volkoff #7 Sika VS #10 Tito Santana #2 Don Muraco VS #15 Tony Garea Thoughts - I see some potential great second round matches. Will the Iron Shiek take on Backlund and upset him in round two? Will he even make it by Pedro? A second round match between Andre and Snuka could be very interesting as could a matchup with Muraco and Santana.

Florida - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Dusty Rhodes VS #16 Mike Davis #8 Bobby Duncam VS #9 Barry Windham #6 Ron Bass VS #11 Angelo Mosca #4 Superstar Billy Graham VS #13 Black Bart #3 The Purple Haze VS #14 B Brian Blair #5 Kevin Sullivan VS #12 Mike Rotundo #7 Maya Singh VS #10 Mike Graham #2 Blackjack Mulligan VS #15 Scott McGhee Thoughts - Not the best 16 top to bottom but there should be some good stuff mixed in there. The first rounder with Sullivan and Rotundo - two future Varsity Club members - could steal the show.

Mid Atlantic - Top 4 advance #1 Harley Race VS #16 George South #8 Wahoo McDaniel VS #9 Nikita Koloff #6 Jay Youngblood VS #11 Roddy Piper #4 Ricky Steamboat VS #13 Dick Slater #3 Greg Valentine VS #14 Bugsy McGraw #5 Jerry Brisco VS #12 Bob Orton Jr #7 Jack Brisco VS #10 Jimmy Valient #2 Ric Flair VS #15 Nelson Royal Thoughts - This is a big one for sure with alot of talent trying to make the final four. Flair, if he gets Jack Brisco in round 2 better watch out as should race if he gets Wahoo.

To round it out ---- Mid South - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Butch Reed VS #16 Blade Runner Sting #8 King Kong Bundy VS #9 Terry Taylor #6 Magnum TA VS #12 Steve Williams #4 Kamala VS #13 Tim Horner #3 Ted Dibiase VS #14 Rick Steiner #5 Jim Duggan VS #12 Crusher Darsow #7 Jim Garvin VS #10 Chris Adams #2 Junkyard Dog VS #15 Blade Runner Rock Thoughts - This has some very young talent that will go on to big things. The bottom two seeds in the tournament will go on to win WCW and WWF World Titles. Terry Taylor may be one of the most underrated wrestlers ever. Dibiase is a technician and Magnum TA could have potentially went on to many World Titles himself. Even Gentleman Chris Adams poses a threat way down at a 10 seed.

Shocked that Hamada and Maeda both were upset in the first round - I was looking foward to that round two matchup.

Thoughts - A couple of good first round matches. Shocked that Armstrong couldn't pull out any good matches. Great match with Steve Armstrong and Jimmy Golden highlighted the tournament. That Ricky Gibson and Mr. Olympia match was better than the rating too.

WWC - Winner to advance Round 1 #1 Carlos Colon VS #8 Medic #2 - 16:50 E Boston Crab #4 Los Infernos #1 VS #5 Herculeus Ayala - 44:00 A* Inverted Figure Four #3 Abdullah the Butcher VS #6 Invader #2 - 18:20 E Sudanese Meat Cleaver #2 Bruiser Brody VS #7 Super Medic #1 - 16:50 E Running Brody Knee Drop Round 2 #1 Carlos Colon VS #5 Herculeus Ayala - 21:50 E Belly to Back Cradle Suplex #3 Abdullah the Butcher VS #2 Bruiser Brody - 24:50 A* Chain Wrapped Punch Final #1 Carlos Colon VS #2 Bruiser Brody - 27:00 B Press Slam of Death Winner and going to the King of Kings Tournament - Bruiser Brody Thoughts - FINALLY a tournament that gave the fans something worth talking about. Match of the qualifiers so far in the Ayala/Los Infernos brawl. There were at least 20 near falls in that one. Then Brody/Abby put on one of their classic brawls. It ended with a good match between Colon and Brody.

UWA Mexico - Winner only to advance Round 1 #1 Dos Caras VS #8 Dr. Wagner Jr. - 18:30 C+ La Runguina #4 El Solitario VS #5 Enrique Vera - 16:20 E La Tapatia #3 Canek VS #6 Perro Aguayo - 25:10 C+ Canek Press #2 Vilano III VS #7 Black Man - 21:30 B+ Cerrajera Tangle Round 2 #1 Dos Caras VS #4 El Solitario - 38:00 A* Grounded Octupus Stretch #3 Canek VS #2 Vilano III - 20:10 C- Fisherman Buster Final #1 Dos Caras VS #3 Canek - 23:50 D Octupus Stretch Transferring to the King of Kings - Dos Caras. Thoughts: This was one good tournament here folks. It upped that great WWC tourney just held prior. Solitario hit Canek with everything but the kitchen sink in the semis and had at least 8 or 9 near falls on him and then Caras caught him in the Octupus and that was all she wrote. Was a bit disappointed in the final match since there were so many other good one's.

Not as much as when Tom Zenk beat The Shiek earlier but this was a wierd tourney. Very dull with only two matches hitting a C+ but an ALL Oates final? Good grief.
