The year is 1985, Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been aggressively expanding his wrestling promotion to become national, and he's making one last big gamble to cross that final hurdle. A wrestling mega event to surpass them all, that crosses professional wrestling into the mainstream like never before. Integrating celebrities into the product to bring the casual fan, the non wrestling viewer and turn them into one. To do this he has relied on what will go on to be known as "The Rock and Wrestling Connection" that brought in the personalities of Cyndi Lauper and Mr. T and incorporating them into the storylines on his television product. Not just any storylines though. The main storyline that has been running so far...

Answers.png.ac53d5ad300b8ee08066de0213037e23.png

Roddy Piper delivered the first shot in this war when he shattered that record over the head of Captain Lou Albano. In a moment that was meant to celebrate the turning of a new leaf in Lou Albano, who together with Cyndi Lauper had done incredible work together for charity. An event was put together to deliver an award to Lauper who in turn, wanted to recognize Captain Lou's efforts, but it turned sour when Piper dawned on the scene. Believing he should have gotten the credit for linking the two together in the first place, Piper would shock the world after not only smashing the record over Lou's head, but throwing Cyndi Lauper to the ground and kicking a woman while she was down.

Lauper swore to Piper that he would live to regret what he did that day and in Paul Orndorff to assist him in his crusade against Hulkamania and the Rock N' Wrestling Connection.

But this war needs to be settled in order for a proper championship match to take place at Wrestlemania, thus, the one time special event, The War To Settle The Score is set, pitting the two teams together of Hulk Hogan & Mr. T against Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper in the main event of the evening.

With some very special conditions that could play a part in the Main Event of Wrestlemania. If Hulk Hogan & Mr. T win the tag team match, than all of Piper's cronies are barred from ringside in the championship match at Wrestlemania.

BUT if Piper & Orndorff win, then the match will take place under No Disqualification Rules. Leaving Piper with a concerning advantage.

But this is not the only story that Cyndi Lauper has found herself tangled in, it seems there's some truth to the old saying...

Woman.png.37cfba19435c6e10f3705af88265315b.png

During her time with the WWF Lauper didn't just befriend the biggest male star in Hulk Hogan, but also the biggest female star in Wendi Richter.

Richter has been the most successful women's wrestler in modern times and it has rubbed a certain someone the wrong way. The Fabulous Moolah arguably to many, is not the most successful women's wrestler of modern times...but the most successful women's wrestler of ALL time and Wendi Richter poses a threat to that legacy in Moolah's eyes and nobody. Absolutely nobody. Is going to remove her from that pedastal and so, Moolah has made it her mission to dethrone the women's champion by seeking out talent willing to do her bidding. After all, the promise of championship gold, wealth and association with one of the most influential women in the business is a promising deal, all you have to do to get it, is take the belt from Wendi.

Leilani Kai looks to be the one to get the job done and at the War To Settle The Score, Richter faces her toughest challenge yet. As Moolah will be joining Leilani to ringside for Richter's title defence. However Cyndi isn't going to let a girl go it alone and promises she'll be there to take care of that old bat if she decides to do anything crazy.

But the stories don't just stop at the Rock N' Wrestling Connection and one might argue that despite the championship belts that are up for grabs , there's potentially a bigger story to be told at Wrestlemania, perhaps a giant one...

CAREER.png.144fdaf97dbd72bdcd5d17c006a82a75.png

Big John Studd has been on a dominant streak. What began as a position for him to brag has escalated to where we find ourselves now. Studd has been challenging anybody and everybody to slam him. Just one body slam...and nobody has been able to do it. Then, his manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan made things even more interesting. If anybody out there CAN slam his giant, they would pocket themselves a grand total, of fifteen thousand dollars.

Still, the challenge has not been met and Big John Studd's ego has grown even bigger than the man himself as a result, to the point that he invoked the name of the Eighth Wonder of The World himself. Andre The Giant. Studd has been using his challenges as an opportunity, to aim his barbed comments directly at Andre himself. Claiming that Andre is washed up, old news and that the one true giant of wrestling is none other than the man that so many have failed to slam.

Thus far, Andre has been quiet. Always a special attraction, a sighting of the Giant is never common as is. However when someone is bad mouthing him and laying down the gauntlet the way that Big John Studd has, it is concerning. Leading Big John to make the boldest of claims, that the reason Andre is staying silent and not answering his challenge, is because he is afraid. He is afraid that in failing to slam Studd, he will embarrass himself and show the world what Studd already knows to be true. He is no longer the giant of professional wrestling...and when that reality dawns on him? It will be the end of him as we know it.

Still, there is time for Andre to answer the call. Studd is set for another fifteen thousand challenge at The War To Settle The Score and we are sure he will use the opportunity to slander Andre further than he already has...will the Giant finally stand up and give the fans the answer they have been waiting to hear...

But money isn't everything in wrestling. Sometimes, in the most unlikely of places, friendship can be formed  and one very friendship has been formed in the chase for the Intercontinental Championship as Tito Santana has a mission that no other man is going to have.

Dog.png.f7fb50c69fbe4a990b491660e0080742.png

Tito has been chasing Greg Valentine for the Intercontinental Championship ever since he lost it, but one thing he did not expect to see would be the depths which The Hammer was willing to sink while avoiding Tito's challenges at all cost. Making Tito climb his way back up the ladder to become the number one contender and making sure that Tito watched every defense that Valentine had along the way, until one night he went too far. That came on the fateful night where The Junkyard Dog was the challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. Valentine would defend successfully but he wanted to send a personal message to Tito Santana that night who was guest commentating as his new position of finally regaining the official recognition as Number One Contender earned him such a privilege.

Valentine would lock in the figure four on JYD and he wouldn't let go. Tito would run in to make the save when it was clear nobody else would but it was too late, the damage was already done and the Dog's leg would be injured as a result. Put into a cast with a six week minimum recovery meant that JYD would be out of the ring, but Tito, riddled with guilt would visit him in hospital and swear to him that he would make Valentine pay for what he had done. He would win the Intercontinental belt, not just for himself, but to get justice for the Dog too.

But friendship sometimes is not found along the way, it is something that is formed from the beginning and tested through each and every day through in ring action and there is no friendship under greater threat than that of the Tag Team Champions.

The US Express have been great examples since winning the belts from the North-South Connection in January but once you have the belts around your waists, you have a target on your back from all comers. The Tag Team Division is heating up and dangerous alliances look to bring dark times to the division. The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff have formed an Anti American Alliance the likes of which wrestling has not seen for quite some time and they are promising dominance over the division. But before Windham and Rotunda can even begin to worry about that potential threat, there is the returning menace of the North-South Connection to worry about at The War To Settle The Score. Will The Train derail before it even reaches the next station?

And finally, there comes the ultimate prize, all of us in this business strive for the same things, championships, fame, fortune, recognition and respect, but all of that can be summed in one singular word. Greatness...and one man's greatness has found itself under attack.

Shadows.png.5a4f96c3392c9b47207af2f7d6aedcb1.png

Jimmy Snukka tried to assist in helping Cyndi Lauper get justice against Roddy Piper, but in the process he crossed paths with none other than Piper's own Ace Bodyguard. Cowboy Bob Orton and Orton has done one thing that can cause the downfall of so many men. He has been playing mind games with The Superfly. Trying to convince him that his time has come and gone. His chance to shine in the spotlight is over and instead, he finds that spotlight blocked by the shadows of greater men who knew how to grab opportunity better than he did.

Orton promises Snukka one thing. To do him a favor and end the bleeding before it gets any worse, to expose Snukka to the world stage once and for all and to put a signed, sealed, delivered end to the great career of the fan favorite.

This diary will begin at The War To Settle The Score and build to Wrestlemania from there, with the aim of presenting an alternate timeline. It's The WWF, but not quite as you know it

If Hogan and Mr. T win, All of Piper’s associates are barred from ringside. If Piper & Orndorff win, the Main Event WWF Championship match at Wrestlemania between Hogan and Piper will be under No Disqualification Rules.

Bret Hart beats doink the clown and later forms the Hart Foundation with Jimmy Hart and the anvil to hopefully become strong contenders to u.s. express's Tag gold.

Leilani takes the belt off wendi thanks to Moolah interference only for wendi to win it back at wrestlemania thanks to Lauper evening the odds and hopefully she won't get screwjobbed by the spider lady this time.

Beefcake beats the hillbilly thanks to luscious valiant.

Big John slams putski and vows to do the same to Andre.

U.s. express beat the north south connection who should have Jesse Ventura as a manager sense he and Adrian Adonis used to be a tag team similarly called the east-west connection.

David Schultz beast snuka thanks to interference by Orton who later joins in a post match beat down on superfly

And finally Piper and Orndorff beat Hogan and Mr. T thanks to interference from Orton and surprisingly Schultz who decide to form a power stable of traditional purists who want to get rid of all the Hollywood bullcrap Hogan and his friends brought in, basically become wwf's version of the four horsemen.

Sorry everyone, started a university course so my updates won't be as regular as I'd like but I have not abandoned this. ( I'm studying psychology. I hope to become a therapist )

War.thumb.jpg.eb8154aded12bce89a5b537615fed5f5.jpg

"GOOOOOOOOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND WELCOME! TO THE VERY SPECIAL EVENT BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION AND MTV! IT'S THE ROCK N' WRESTLING CONNECTION COMING TO A HEAD! IT'S THE WAR TO SETTLE THE SCORE!"

GorillaMonsoon85.jpg.13fc9e3bb697d5c4454fbb10588a387e.jpgJesseVentura0.jpg.04193c76c3d76e0bf0a3a394ca249a27.jpgVinceMcMahon.jpg.2c01760e8e6919ba0afa6cd6aa524d81.jpg

We are introduced to the show with our announcing trip to welcome us to this evening's festivites, it's Vince McMahon joined by Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura and ladies and gentlemen, this very special presentation from the World Wrestling Federation is coming to you for the very first time, as a part of MTV's programning! We here at the WWF would like to personally thank MTV for giving us this opportunity to introduce ourselves to a new audience and we hope that the first time, will also not be the last time...

OF COURSE it won't be the last time McMahon! This is the WWF, this is the leader in professional wrestling today, this is the leader in ENTERTAINMENT today and everyone watching on MTV tonight KNOWS IT! And you know what McMahon? None of them will want to miss it because my prediction is that tonight? It will be the beginning of the end for Hulkamania!

Well now I don't know about that Jesse! Hulkamania does not show any signs of ending any time soon especially with everyone he has on his side. Cyndi Lauper, Mr. T and of course the ladies and gentlemen in the arena and watching at home!

AND ALL OF THAT MEAN'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MONSOON! Not in that ring, not between those ropes! This ain't a popularity contest! It's Professional Wrestling!

It's sports entertainment and it's here to many of you for the first time tonight! Put down the remote and enjoy!

Bret Hart VS. Matt Borne
BretHart85.jpg.332a4614587f8ac57585687432bde286.jpg VS. MattBorne80s.jpg.b70d1a1ee006aa5eaf167ad1261d46a6.jpg

And here ladies and gentlemen to get the night started we have something for the purists. We try to cater to all of our fans across these great United States and tonight we start with a match for those fans seeking pure athleticism, because we have two sides of the same coin facing against one another. Bret Hart, the technician, with picture perfect precision, able to pinpoint and attack any part of the body and wear it down, then you have Matt Borne, the brawler, the mat wrestler who will try and keep you down on the canvas by overpowering you and while this opening bout was by no means...exciting? This is the beginnings that introduce the non wrestling audience to the concept and presentation of the sport itself and to build to the explosive climax.

Decent opener with good wrestling but little heat, Bret and Matt pull in a rating of 46  to start off the night.

WWFLadies.jpg.b1c70c569fbdc9bae581b013c7a493a2.jpg
WWF Women's Championship
Wendi Richter (C) VS. Leilani Kai

WendiRichter0.jpg.946ed24a83f93538685fd9ba6ff9764a.jpg VS. LeilaniKai1.jpg.12c66ee4c68d96400f486eb8d259f598.jpg

And let me tell you something folks, the WWF is an equal opportunity employer. We realize that in this ever changing nation that the ladies are just as talented as the men at their in ring craft! And nothing is a better showcase of this right here as Wendi Richter takes on Leilani Kai and the girls gave it their all in this one. With an unexpected intensity for the fans at home Leilani Kai and Richter came in stiff with one another to add extra oomph to their work in ring and it helped pay off not only in building the momentum of the night, but giving the fans second thought before they wave away the women's division. Things looked as if Richter had the match won when all of a sudden...

TheFabulousMoolah85.jpg.04c006027d94e0f4ca8bb50bc952808b.jpg

The Fabulous Moolah coming down to ring side?! What in the world is she doing here?!

SHE'S SEIZING THE OPPORTUNITY MCMAHON! This is a woman with DECADES of experience under her belt and she is showcasing that wealth of knowledge right here before our eyes!

The distraction from Moolah would cost Wendi the win and her Women's Championship as Leilani Kai is able to capitalize and get the pin over Wendi. Pulling in a rating of 54

BrutusBeefcake85.jpg.f6c2791b0404f89a670eba8d3c29534c.jpg VS. HillbillyJim2.jpg.de0da175a229d010cec39f8ac34405e2.jpg

Brutus Beefcake VS. Hillbilly Jim

Something just didn't click here, perhaps it is the fact that Brutus Beefcake is very much still green and Hillbilly Jim is having to carry this match for him. One thing is undeniable is that Beefcake has potential. He has the look and he has enough charisma about him to reel in the fans attention, but it isn't fully developed yet and it isn't enough to make up for the lack of his in ring skill right now. The match was what it was, which is mostly Hillbilly Jim dictating the match until Beefcake's manager Luscious Johnny Valiant gets involved and provides enough opportunities in the match that Beefcake took advantage of. In particular, the cane shot to the head that Jim would take while Beefcake distracted the ref with a fake temper tantrum. Beefcake would get the win in this...less than stellar match up. Coming in with a Rating of 43

And now folks we take you over to an interview recorded earlier tonight with the man who claims to be the ONE TRUE GIANT of the WWF. Big John Studd...

GeneOkerlund87.jpg.7d9b32e2f46085f3c46ecc7a092a83d2.jpgBigJohnStudd1.jpg.753939007fe8baf5764f4fc883ab8b45.jpgBobbyHeenan85.jpg.13da21f5a0d669ced77cf350f27eb36f.jpg

"Folks Gene Okerlund here joined by Big John Studd and his manager Bobby the Brain Heenan and John? Are we looking at another dominating performance here tonight?"

Big John Studd guarantees us that EVERY performance is a dominating performance, because he is not only the NEW GIANT of the WWF, but the ONE TRUE GIANT of the WWF. He is showing, night after night, week after week why it is we don't see Andre The Giant on our Televisions any more and that's because HE'S TOO SCARED TO SHOW HIS FACE WITH BIG JOHN STUDD AROUND

Bobby Heenan steps in with the black duffelbag and raises it for the camera to see. "THAT'S RIGHT!" He slowly unzips the bag and showcases the stacks of cash wrapped up in blue rubber bands. This was the illustrious 15,000 dollars that has been up for grabs for the past month in the Body Slam Challenge and as of yet, nobody had been able to claim it..."Andre The Giant has had a chance Mean Gene, He's had ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES to PROVE THIS MAN WRONG...AND TAKE THIS MONEY! AND HE HASN'T DONE IT?! Why is that Mean Gene? Why is Andre The Giant so scared? It's because he knows HIS TIME IS UP! THERE'S A NEW GIANT IN TIME AND HIS NAME...IS BIG JOHN STUDD...

The great managerial work of Bobby Heenan alongside the every man appeal of Mean Gene helped excel Big John Studd into the menacing position the WWF wanted him to be in, pulling in an impressive 79 Rating.

BigJohnStudd1.jpg.753939007fe8baf5764f4fc883ab8b45.jpgBobbyHeenan85.jpg.13da21f5a0d669ced77cf350f27eb36f.jpg VS IvanPutski85.jpg.623d77ef89038751ea1a696f61beb1b7.jpg

Ivan Putski was once a titan in this sport, a grizzled veteran in the ring, a man who should command respect...and he was diminished, humiliated and dominated by this towering giant, who controlled the match from the moment the match started, to the moment it ended...and Ivan did exactly what he needed to put Big John voer, showcasing the struggle he was having to slam Ivan Putski!

John, after getting bored scoops Ivan up, Body Slams him and places his foot on Ivan's chest for the pin, bringing in a 56 Rating for the match.

BigJohnStudd1.jpg.753939007fe8baf5764f4fc883ab8b45.jpgBobbyHeenan85.jpg.13da21f5a0d669ced77cf350f27eb36f.jpg

And Heenan and Big John Studd are celebrating as Heenan flashes the cash to the camera, both he and laughing at they play with the cash from the black duffel bag. Their festivites are cut short however when the man they were least expecting showed his face...

AndretheGiant87.jpg.e24f9d13ad586cb687ea53b2f659363e.jpg

"THAT'S ANDRE THE GIANT! ANDRE IS HERE! WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HIM IN A MONTH!"

Somethin' tells me he's had enough of Big John Studd's loud mouth Vince! Andre walking his way down to the ring in his large black singlet, his stone face staring down at Big John Studd. Bobby Heenan starts directing traffic as at first he sees, Big John is preparing himself to take on Andre "Not here! Not Here!" Heenan insists as he taps Studd on the shoulder desperately, insisting for Studd to get out of the ring...Studd resiliently rolls out and steps over the barricade of the fans. Fans back away immediately to clear a path for him. Andre stops for a moment, looking frustrated as he watches

"HEENAN! YOUR MAN CLAIMS HE IS ONE TRUE GIANT OF WWF! I SAY IT TIME HE PROVES IT! I CHALLENGE STUDD TO BODY SLAM CHALLENGE AT THE WRESTLEMANIA!"

The fans roar in approval despite Andre's thick and heavy accent being hard to decipher. Heenan doesn't answer at first, hesitating, looking panicked, Andre begins to make his way to the ring, stepping up onto the apron and Heenan books it, grabbing the bag and hightailing it out of the ring and running back up the ramp to head towards the backstage area. Andre just sighs and begins walking back after him. The segment pulling in a 64 Rating.

Folks we now go back to Mean Gene Okerlund with another pre recorded segment with our WWF World Tag Team Champions! The US Express!

GeneOkerlund87.jpg.7d9b32e2f46085f3c46ecc7a092a83d2.jpgBarryWindham85.jpg.b218b680df166f95b3eef7e3b354b40c.jpgMikeRotundo85.jpg.d4984c2b385bbe1d0ceec997ff059b3d.jpg

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Gene Okerlund here with the WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, The US Express looking to make their successful first defence, against the former champions, The North-South Connection"

The generic white meat babyface promo that followed did the job it was supposed to do. The Express put over the North-Sotuh Connection, they know they are not in for an easy night, but they've been here before and won and in the month that has passed, despite the two on one attacks, the distractions and sneak attacks after matches, The US Express is even BETTER than when the North-South Connection faced them. So Murdoch and Adonis better prepare, because the US Express is picking up Steam! Rolling in with a 60 Rating

WWF World Tag Team Championship

The US Express VS. The North-South Connection

Good tag team action here that was a nice combination of hard hitting powerhouses against faster, athletic more dynamic action and that was very much the story in this match with the North-South Connection using their size and stature in their chase to regain the belts. Rotunda would be the victim of the NorthSouth onslaught that wore him down throughout the first half of the match. The hot tag would bring Windham in like a house of fire cleaning up and ultimately getting the win over Dick Murdoch, bringing in a 62 Rating.

BarryWindham85.jpg.b218b680df166f95b3eef7e3b354b40c.jpgMikeRotundo85.jpg.d4984c2b385bbe1d0ceec997ff059b3d.jpgTheIronSheik5.jpg.e4c5921b1baa118e9773dd2a99dcf19a.jpgNikolaiVolkoff4.jpg.2a2ecd026c72ee7a96fc8a61985e6a09.jpg

After the match as The US Express Celebrate they are Pearl Harboured by The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff, both carrying with them their nation's respective flags and attacking the US Express with them!

The Attack from Sheik & Volkoff brought in a 66 Rating

JimmySnuka0.jpg.31bdc9807d00821ff2180c4aad5e25be.jpgDavidSchultz.jpg.287b726683db55738694bd3049745c75.jpg

The story in this match is the STRUGGLE that Snukka faces against David Schultz throughout the match. Schultz is an opportunist you have to have your wits about you with whenever you step in the ring and that was the case here as Schultz was almost playing minds games the way he was wrestling against Snukka, prodding him and poking him to try and work Snukka into a rage that would make him easier to take advantage of. Snukka though, showcasing his speed and agility managed to overcome and bring the match into his court. Things would not stay in Snukka's favor however...

BobOrtonJr2.jpg.6a40517931a53380c9ed8d5ae4b72958.jpg

Cowboy Bob Orton comes in and ruins The Superfly's momentum! The match sees Snukka as the winner but none of us were thinking it would be because of Cowboy Bob Orton and this assault on Snukka! The referee having to try and pull Orton away as Orton lays in the boots to Jimmy Snukka. Bringing in a 53 Rating

Now ladies and gentlemen get ready to hear from the most exciting pairing in sports entertainment history. Hulk Hogan and Mr. T in a pre recorded interview with Gene Okerlund earlier this evening!

GeneOkerlund87.jpg.7d9b32e2f46085f3c46ecc7a092a83d2.jpgHulkHogan86.jpg.96906259780db32008176d8d0bda46d8.jpgMr_T85.jpg.b171126898b41a1857d6e752fd4c73df.jpg

"Ladies and Gentlemen Mean Gene here joined by the architects of the Rock N' Wrestling Connection! Hulk Hogan and Mr. T ready to face off against Orndorff and Piper here this evening to decide the fate of the Championship Match at Wrestlemania!"

WELL LET ME TELL YA' SOMETHIN' MEAN GENE, THIS PROMO IS CLASSIC HULK HOGAN TO A T! YOU SEE THE HULKSTER REMINDS US THAT HE ISN'T JUST HERE TO DECIDE THE FATE OF WRESTLEMANIA, BUT HE AND T ARE HERE TO BRING JUSTICE TO RODDY PIPER DUDE! BECAUSE THE HULKSTER STILL REMEMBERS THE SOUND OF THAT RECORD SHATTERING ACROSS THE CAPTAIN'S HEAD! THE HULKSTER STILL REMEMBER'S THE BOOT BEING DRIVEN RIGHT TO THE GUT OF CYNDI LAUPER! THE HULKSTER REMEMBERS THE SHAME AND EMBARASSMENT THAT RODDY PIPER BROUGHT THIS COMPANY AND HE AND T ARE GONNA' BRING JUSTICE TO RODDY PIPER FOR CAPTAIN LOU, FOR CYNDI LAUPER AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL THE WWF BROTHER!

This promo brings in a Hulkamania sized rating of 86, Brother!

MAIN EVENT

TAG TEAM MATCH
Hulk Hogan & Mr. T VS. Paul Orndorff & Roddy Piper
If Hogan & T Win, All of Piper's associates are barred from ringside. If Orndorff & Piper wins, the match is No Disqualification

HulkHogan86.jpg.96906259780db32008176d8d0bda46d8.jpgMr_T85.jpg.b171126898b41a1857d6e752fd4c73df.jpg VS. PaulOrndorff85.jpg.b9d82f5c7994c2cbf1b4c5da64f7f144.jpgRoddyPiper4.jpg.b37d2fc08a4514cee9f9e71803cfa109.jpg

Well folks it is here the Main Event and if you stuck around this long it's here where you can see what the WWF is best at. They aren't quite the best at selling you the steak, but they know how to sell you the sizzle better than anybody else. Because this match was all sizzle. Mr. T was...clearly and intentionally kept at limited involvement in this match which was all about the storytelling. This was the perfect opportunity to have Orndorff and Piper dictate the match and make the story of the match the two of them wearing down Hulk Hogan, wearing down Hulkamania even, bit by bit, tag after tag. Hogan would tease the tag to T multiple times, once to only be dragged back in the corner by his leg by Orndorff and the second time with Piper kicking at Hogan's tag hand. Until Hogan did what he did best...and used the power of the Hulkamaniacs to shake his way back to his feet, knocking down both Piper & Orndorff with Big Boots and then reaching over and tagging T in. Mr. T wouldn't be in the ring long before Piper synched in a sleeper hold to get the win and make the match at Wrestlemania No Disqualification. Meaning Piper had the advantage...

The match would pull in a 70 rating and The War To Settle The Score would draw in a 70 overall rating for the show

MTV & WWF Agree Broadcasting Deal

In a shocking announcement. MTV is happy to announce a new slot in their programning which sees a complete shake up in the philosophy of the channel thus far. This decision, which had been in talks for the past few months, was essentially waiting on the results of The War To Settle The Score as to wether or not the deal would be finalized.

The event drew a 3.27 Rating, pulling in 475, 382 viewers. This came as a pleasant surprise to the executives within MTV as this was seen as a big risk for both players in this deal. MTV's programning has strictly been music, for obvious reasons. It is the network's bread and butter. There was no telling what bringing in a wrestling product would do for the Network's viewership. So, tentatively, the event was placed in the Afternoon slot. Seeing this number gave MTV the confidence to finalize the deal.

The Broadcasting Deal will see The WWF regularly schedule their two shows, All Star Wrestling and Championship Wrestling both scheduled in to the afternoon slot on their respective days. Saturday and Sunday. The weekend schedule hoping to bring in the casual audience who will have more availability in the weekend.

This deal is initially set to last two years as a continuing test period as MTV is willing to continue the experiment of introducing non music related content into their programning schedule. With the option for extension. WWF is set to receive 20% of the revenue split. One condition of the deal was that MTV will receive 12 exclusive  WWF specials. Similar to the Nature of The War to Settle The Score.

It is uncertain as to whether Wrestlemania will be showcased as one of these special events as The WWF has been establishing deals within the closed circuit model for the Mega Event. It is possible that Wrestlemania remain a closed circuit endeavor and then future, special one time only events will be broadcast on to MTV in the same manner War to Settle The Score was.

A spokesman for the WWF shared with us the excitement the company has going forward with the deal. "The WWF sees this as an opportunity to expand their audience reach." they told us. "Especially to the youth of the nation. With the success of The War To Settle The Score, we remain confident that this continued relationship will be successful for both the WWF and for the MTV Network."
