The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company based in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned and operated by TKO Group Holdings, a majority owned subsidiary of Endeavor Group Holdings. It is the largest MMA promotion in the world as of 2023. It produces events worldwide that showcase 11 weight divisions (eight men's and three women's) and abides by the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. As of 2022, it had held over 600 events. Dana White has been its president since 2001 and CEO since 2023. Under White's stewardship, it has grown into a global multi-billion-dollar enterprise.

The UFC was founded by businessman Art Davie and Brazilian martial artist Rorion Gracie, and the first event was held in 1993 at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of the UFC's early competitions was to identify the most effective martial art in a contest with minimal rules and no weight classes between competitors of different fighting disciplines. In subsequent events, more rigorous rules were created and fighters began adopting effective techniques from more than one discipline, which indirectly helped create a separate style of fighting known as present-day mixed martial arts.

The UFC was initially owned by the Semaphore Entertainment Group (SEG) until it had financial issues and it was sold to the brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta in 2001, who formed the company Zuffa to operate the UFC, and placed Dana White as the president of the company. In 2016, UFC's parent company, Zuffa, was sold to a group led by Endeavor, then known as William Morris Endeavor (WME–IMG), including Silver Lake Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and MSD Capital for US$4.025 billion. In 2021, Endeavor bought out Zuffa's other owners at a valuation of $1.7 billion. The organization had 578 fighters contracted as of January 2023.

With a TV deal and expansion in Australia, Asia, Europe, and new markets within the United States, the UFC has achieved greater mainstream media coverage. It earned US$609 million in 2015, and its next domestic media rights agreement with ESPN was valued at $1.5 billion over a five-year term.

In April 2023, Endeavor Group Holdings announced that UFC would merge with the wrestling promotion WWE to form TKO Group Holdings, a new public company majority-owned by Endeavor, with Vince McMahon serving as an executive chairman of the new entity and White remaining as UFC president. The merger was completed on September 12, 2023.

The UFC introduced weight classes in 1997, starting with UFC 12, and began introducing weight-specific titles.

The original codification for weight classes introduced only two divisions: heavyweight, which grouped together all competitors above 200 pounds (91 kg), and lightweight, which encompassed all competitors 199 pounds (90 kg) and under. At UFC 14 the lightweight division would be renamed to middleweight, though it would still encompass all fighters 199 pounds (90 kg) and under. The lightweight moniker would later return at UFC 16 with a new division consisting of those competitors 170 pounds (77 kg) and under. Two years later a fourth weight class, the bantamweight division, arrived at UFC 26 and included all fighters 155 pounds (70 kg) and under.

In 2000, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board completely took over MMA regulation in its home state and developed new rules and weight classes that eventually became the de facto rule set for all mixed martial arts. The UFC realigned their weight classes to comply with these new regulations in 2001, beginning with UFC 31. At the time, this brought the total number of active divisions in the UFC to five: lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight.

It would be nearly ten years before the UFC would expand their divisional offerings to include any of the lower weight classes. The first additions came in late 2010 when the UFC merged with their sister organization World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). Due to the WEC's focus on lighter weight fighters, this merger necessitated the addition of both the featherweight and bantamweight divisions to the UFC, starting with The Ultimate Fighter season 12 finale. In early 2012 the UFC decided they would delve even further into the lower weight classes when they announced the introduction of the flyweight division to their ranks, beginning with UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann.

In November 2012, as a result of the forthcoming dissolution of their sister organization Strikeforce, the UFC announced they would be adding female fighters to their roster for the first time in the promotion's history. Initially, only the women's bantamweight division was brought over, with the division's premiere bout taking place at UFC 157. A little over a year later, the UFC announced they would be expanding their weight classes for female fighters with the addition of a women's strawweight division, the first bout took place at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Miller. In late 2016, a featherweight division was introduced for the women with the first bout to be for the inaugural championship at UFC 208 on February 11, 2017. In that same year the UFC announced the Women's Flyweight division would officially be added, with the winner of the 26th season of The Ultimate Fighter to be named the inaugural champion.

The UFC Hall of Fame is a hall of fame which honors mixed martial artists and MMA personalities, established and maintained by the U.S.-based mixed martial arts promotion Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In addition to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the UFC Hall of Fame recognizes accomplishments from Pride Fighting Championships, World Extreme Cagefighting and Strikeforce; all of which are former mixed martial arts promotions that have been bought-out by the UFC and its parent corporations.

It was officially established on November 21, 2003 at UFC 45 with its home being Las Vegas, and the first inductees being inaugural UFC competitors Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock.

In 2015, the UFC announced a significant reboot of its Hall of Fame. The Hall was split into three categories, or wings, and a new class of legends would henceforth be inducted every July at a gala event during the UFC's annual International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

The wings are:

Pioneer Wing – commemorating the original innovators of MMA, who competed in professional bouts before the adoption of the Unified Rules.

Modern Wing – celebrating fighters who made their pro-debuts in the age of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, which went into effect at UFC 28, November 28, 2000.

Fight Wing – recognizing the greatest, most memorable, and historically important bouts.

UFC Fight Night: Perez vs. Taira

This was the 100th event the promotion hosted at the UFC Apex. The UFC started hosting events at the venue in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, originally behind closed doors, before changing their approach to a limited set of tickets per event in July 2021.

A flyweight bout between former UFC Flyweight Championship challenger Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira headlined the event. Perez was originally expected to face Tagir Ulanbekov However, he was pulled in order to serve as replacement and headline UFC on ESPN: Nicolau vs. Perez in April. In turn on April 30, it was reported that the fight between Perez and Ulanbekov was back on for this event. After Perez was moved to the headliner spot, the promotion opted to book Ulanbekov against Joshua Van, who was Taira's original opponent at UFC 302. However, the bout was cancelled when Ulanbekov weighed in at 129.5 pounds, three and a half pounds over the flyweight non-title fight limit.

A women's strawweight bout between former LFA Women's Strawweight Champion Julia Polastri and Josefine Lindgren Knutsson took place at the event. They were originally scheduled for UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Gaziev but the bout was scrapped when Knutsson pulled out due to injury.

A heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski and Martin Buday was scheduled for this event. However, the bout was moved to UFC 303 for unknown reasons.

A middleweight bout between André Muniz and Ikram Aliskerov was expected to take place at the event. However, Muniz withdrew due to a foot injury. He was replaced by Antonio Trócoli. In turn, the bout was scrapped during fight week as Aliskerov was pulled in order to serve as a replacement for Khamzat Chimaev against Robert Whittaker a week later at the main event of UFC on ABC: Whittaker vs. Aliskerov.

Was fantastic, with a good fight that saw Omran Chaaban def. Tom Theocharis by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. Out of all the cast. Giannis Bachar was the most entertaining. Ryan Loder and Mairon Santos cleary bonded during this episode.

Episode 2
A great episode, with Kaan Ofli def. Guillermo Torres by Submission in second round, in a poor fight and some brilliantly entertaining sections with cast. Omran Chaaban stole the show. One of the stories of the episode was the friendship that has developed between Alexa Grasso and Kaan Ofli.

UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Aliskerov

The promotion was originally expected to make its Saudi Arabia debut at an event on March 2, 2024, but on January 24, Saudi Arabia's chairman of General Entertainment Authority Turki Alalshikh announced the event had been officially postponed until this date, citing "a decision to reschedule was taken to ensure the best caliber of talent will be available to participate".

A middleweight title eliminator bout between former UFC Middleweight Champion (also The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes welterweight winner) Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev was expected to headline the event. However, Chimaev withdrew due to an illness and was replaced by Ikram Aliskerov, who was scheduled to fight a week earlier at UFC Fight Night: Perez vs. Taira.

A middleweight bout between Sharabutdin Magomedov and Ihor Potieria was expected to take place at the event. However, Potieria was pulled to face Michel Pereira at UFC 301. He was replaced by promotional newcomer Joilton Lutterbach. In turn, Lutterbach was pulled out on June 19 by the anti-doping commission because of a substance found in his urine and replaced by Antonio Trócoli, who was scheduled to face Aliskerov a week earlier.

Said Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Montel Jackson in a bantamweight bout. However, Nurmagomedov pulled out due to undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Farid Basharat. In turn, it was reported that Basharat was unable to compete due to an injury and the bout was scrapped.

Abu Azaitar was scheduled to face Denis Tiuliulin in a middleweight bout. However, Azaitar was replaced by Sedriques Dumas due to an injury. In turn, the bout between Dumas and Tiuliulin was postponed to UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs. Nurmagomedov due to visa reasons related to Dumas.

A featherweight bout between Muhammad Naimov and Melsik Baghdasaryan was expected to take place at the main card. However, Baghdasaryan pulled out during fight week due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He was replaced by Felipe Lima.
