Wrestling Machine
Diary Introduction Founded by Robbie Quarantino, younger brother of world-renowned filmmaker Trent Quarantino and owner of The Bandit Network - a small tv channel quite relevant in Mid and South areas, Outlaw Championship Wrestling is a professional wrestling promotion that combines classic Southern rasslin’ with dramatic storytelling and unique characters heavily inspired by Wild West culture. The bet behind this choice by the ownership is the belief that it’s possible to put the genie back inside the bottle, bringing back some kayfabe and old-school approach to the business, mixing it up with engaging stories, top notch production and a Western scenario. Outlaw Championship Wrestling weekly television show will be filmed on Monday - usually from “The Outpost”, a fictional name for the San Antonio Riverwalk Rodeo venue - and will air on The Bandit Network on Wednesday. At the moment, there are also plans for having four Premium Events throughout 2022, aired live on Saturday night on The Bandit Network. The promotion's product is Classic Wild West, the sort of wrestling that was very popular in Texas in the 1980s. Matches are hard fought and often bloody but there is also showmanship and killer angles. In its weekly TV shows, matches usually have a 20-minutes time limit which, if reached, would rule the end of the match as a draw. It would appear that the three-time TCW World Heavyweight and three-time TWL champion, Ricky Dale Johnson, has been hired as the Head Booker. Author note: For those of you who followed my previous TEW2020 diary with Lone Star Wrestling, you will probably find some similarities and some easter eggs. Generally speaking though, Outlaw Championship Wrestling will focus more on the crazy Wild West world, and the business aspect of being a television program. Wrestling Machine
Outlaw Championship Wrestling #1 Aired on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 105,650 viewers (0.14 TVR) on The Bandit Network Held in The Outpost (San Antonio Riverwalk Rodeo) in front of 230 people From the announcing table, our play-by-play commentator Dane O’Hara and our color commentator Duke Hazzard welcome us to the first ever episode of Outlaw Championship Wrestling! [30] A well known and respected figure in the wrestling business opens the show, as “Governor” Ricky Johnson introduces Outlaw Championship Wrestling on The Bandit Network, the promotion that combines Wild West rasslin’, dramatic storytelling and unique characters. After explaining that he was personally employed by the Network to run the promotion, “The Governor” describes this new beginning as a modern “Gold Rush” for hungry and up-and-coming talents to emerge in the crazy world of pro wrestling. And could it ever be a true gold rush without a solid piece of gold to grab? Over the next couple of weeks twelve wrestlers, personally chosen by Ricky Johnson, will compete to qualify for the six-man Gold Rush Match for the OCW Southern Heavyweight title! Oh, and the first qualifying match starts now! The first two competitors are “The Oil Prince” Archie Aldred III (aka The Architect) and “Mustang” Harvey Robbinfield. [68] Archie Aldred III vs Harvey Robbinfield in a Qualifying match In a bout that has sub-par wrestling and poor crowd heat, the competitors square up in a well-balanced match between AAIII’s strategic plan and Robbinfield’s top notch athleticism. Taking their time, after almost fourteen minutes “The Oil Prince” quickly distracts the referee and takes advantage of the situation by poking the eyes of “Mustang” Harvey Robbinfield, before planting him on the mat with The Drill Down - a vertical suplex powerslam - to win the match. Archie Aldred III qualifies to the Gold Rush match. [37] After clinching a spot in the Gold Rush match, Archie Aldred III stands over his opponent, smirking as he grabs the microphone. He introduces himself as the heir to the Aldred fortune, built on the oil fields of Spindletop, Texas. With a Southern drawl dripping with arrogance, “The Oil Prince” declares that he’s here to claim this ring just like his family claimed their fortune - by drilling down and striking gold. He warns everyone that, like Spindletop, when he strikes, it’s going to be explosive! AAIII drops the mic, soaking in the boos with a satisfied grin. [27] The War Thunders vs The Explosive Receipt It's tag team action as we witness two brand new tag teams making their debut! The War Thunders are a pair of energetic Native American babyfaces, bringing the storm inside the squared circle. They are the muscular Wild Red Stallion and the smaller but reckless Eagle Two Tomahawk (aka Roger Monteiro). And their opponents are a couple of heel oddballs with a bit of a temper, Dynamite Martin (aka Jerry Martin) and Pepper J (aka Jerry Pepper). And when you mix it up Dynamite and Pepper you’ll come up with an Explosive Receipt! In a wild brawl, The War Thunders have the better hand as Wild Red Stallion pins Pepper J after their combined finisher called The Sacred Storm. [36] Next on the card, a young good-looking dude joins the ring accompanied by a smoking hot babe. He presents himself as Jack Pryde, but everyone in the biz call him Cactus Jack! And this beautiful valet on his side is his partner in crime, Lola Starr (aka Kali Fornia). After a couple of minutes in which Cactus jack tries hard to antagonize the fans in attendance here at The Outpost, saying that he will be the one to win the Gold Rush, finally someone shows up to shut that insolent mouth of Cactus Jack's. The definition of a Texan cowboy, Buck Winchester is here in Outlaw Championship Wrestling, simply presenting himself as "The Lone Star Cowboy" and the Heart of Southern Rasslin! [19] Cactus Jack vs The Lone Star Cowboy in a Qualifying match Within the first few seconds, Cactus Jack rants against his opponent, calling him a good-for-nothing middle-aged cowboy, even going so far as to slap him! This obviously turns out to be a great bad idea as Jack Pryde suffers the beating of a lifetime by The Lone Star Cowboy who immediately grabs the sympathies of the audience. Despite a distraction from Lola Starr late in the bout, Buck Winchester manages to defeat Cactus Jack in ten minutes, pinning him with a Neckbreaker to qualify for the Gold Rush match for the Southern Heavyweight title. [38] The crew takes us backstage where our backstage interviewer introduces herself as Mya Catalan, before interviewing the man who just qualified for the Gold Rush match: “The Lone Star Cowboy” Buck Winchester! The cowboy clearly enjoys having the freedom to go off-script and performs well, stating that he’s so happy about the rising of Outlaw Championship Wrestling, where he could finally compete in the Southern territory to show what he’s capable off. [34] We're back in the ring where a couple of oiled and muscular competitors, wearing matching wrestling bodysuits join the ring alongside a man in his 60s with a microphone in his hands. The old man introduces himself as Herb Stately, a Sports Agent who for decades has assisted some of the best talent in the business. And now he's here in Outlaw Championship Wrestling to assist his new clients, a pair of lethal technicians who will soon prove to be the best tag team in North America! They are "Mr. Submission" Al Coleman and "The Machine" Warren Technique: The Mat Masters! [18] The Mat Masters vs Los Spurs These two legitimate technicians managed by Herb Stately go two-on-two against another fresh duo composed of Gringo Loco (aka Crazy Miguel) and "El Vaquero" Manny Alvarez: Los Spurs! In a about that has sub-par wrestling, The Mat Masters clearly work as heelish wrestling machines, trying to tear apart their Mexican opponents who try to fight back with the help of the audience in attendance. However, after twelve minutes Al Coleman submits "El Vaquero" Manny Alvarez with an Ankle Brace, firmly holding the submission hold for a few seconds following the ringing of the bell, just to give a further message of ferocity and ruthlessness. The Mat Masters surely look like a real threat. [39] With the announcers introducing us to this taped video, Governor Ricky Johnson earlier on stopped by The Bucks Saloon - a place near The Outpost - to crack a cold one with the owner Haley Buck and talk about Outlaw Championship Wrestling. With his manners bordering on arrogance and with questions that are always spicy, the gorgeous Haley Buck tries to get "The Governor" in trouble, who, however, does well, getting across the main message related to Outlaw Championship Wrestling, the right place for some good ol' wild west rasslin. Ricky Johnson acknowledges Haley’s ability to press his customers here at The Bucks Saloon, promising that he will send some of his wrestlers down here to have a talk. [67] And it's already time for the third qualifying bout to the Gold Rush match, and tonight's main event! "Unbreakable" Luke Steele is the first to show up, with tons of muscles and a big steel chain around his neck, with the poise of an outlaw well assured of his means. Dane O'Hara and Duke Hazzard hype his presence a lot, saying that Luke Steele is an heavyweight wrestler from the west coast of Australia who dominated his hometown before moving here to the U.S. to conquer the rasslin business. And his opponent, with a catchy whistling theme song, is a promising talent from Texas: they call him "The Gunner" cause he never misses! Making the sign of unholstering two revolvers and virtually shooting against the camera with some swag, he's Gunner Jackson (aka Public Enemy #1)! After a staredown in the middle of the ring between these two Black muscular competitors, the referee rings the bell! [36] Gunner Jackson vs Luke Steele in a Qualifying match Despite the braggy attitude he initially displays, "Unbreakable" Luke Steele soon realizes that his opponent is far more fearsome than predicted, and the Australian has to sweat not to look bad and get back on track after a rough start. Probably underwhelming wrestling-wise, the match nevertheless clearly carries on the battle between the swagger babyface Gunner Jackson and the bad ass heel Luke Steele. After fifteen minutes, "The Unbreakable" ducks Jackson's finisher and connect the Steele Crusher to seal the deal and qualify to the Gold Rush match. [32] After the bell, Luke Steele is visibly irate at having had it worse than he thought, lashing out with a beatdown over "The Gunner." The referee tries to placate "The Unbreakable" who, however, clearly replies that he will do what he wants here in OCW, because who could possibly stop him? Maybe someone could be there! An imposing bulky figure shows up in the ring, and forces Luke Steele to beat a retreat after going at it hard and failing the beatdown. "Unbreakable" Luke Steele yells at the guy, before returning backstage, while the bulky guy helps Gunner Jackson get back on his feet after his defeat. And for those who were wondering who this guy is, the announcers urge you to read the name written on his wrestling black bodysuit correctly: BIG HUSTLE! (aka Hustle Muvva) [33]. See you next week with the remaining three Gold Rush qualifying matches! And much more to come! I had plans for a promotion that was based in a saloon (Last Chance Saloon, all wrestlers would be 40+ years old). In general there's a great unique vibe, the theme for the promotion is really strong and I like the roster too.

Wrestling Machine
Outlaw Championship Wrestling #2 Aired on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 118,776 viewers (0.15 TVR) on The Bandit Network Held in The Outpost (San Antonio Riverwalk Rodeo) in front of 276 people The show is opened by a charismatic man in a glittering outfit and hair profusely gelled backwards, entering the ring with a guitar in his hands. Introducing himself as Jerry Lee Tennesee, the blues musician allows himself to strum his guitar a bit, humming arrogantly and saying that he will soon qualify for the Gold Rush match to become the first OCW Southern Heavyweight champ. "JLT" keep singing, kinda taunting the three wrestlers who already qualified for the Gold Rush match: "Unbreakable" Luke Steele, "The Lone Star Cowboy" Buck Winchester and "The Oil Prince" Archie Aldred III. Improvising well throughout the segment, the musician is finally interrupted by a very good looking guy in pink trunks with hearts all over them, giving a couple of winks to female fans in attendance: Valentine Rayne is Jerry Lee Tennessee's opponent, and their match is up next! [35] Jerry Lee Tennesee vs Valentine Rayne in a Qualifying match In a bout that has decent wrestling but little heat, Jerry Lee Tennessee plays dirty right away by proving himself an amazing heel, while the handsome Valentine Rayne fights fair and with respect for the rules. After fifteen minutes of well-balanced action, JLT finds his way to victory by walking on the edge of disqualification, hitting his Devil's Crossroad over his oppo to take the W and advance to the Gold Rush match. [38] The announcers introduce us to a taped video of something happened earlier on, as Governor Ricky Johnson - the man in charge of Outlaw Championship Wrestling - is interrupted by Cactus Jack while busy filming promotional material. Jack Pryde, accompanied by his gorgeous girlfriend Lola Starr, in a rather irritating and blustering manner asks for a match to make up for last week's defeat - which he says was unfair. "The Governor" agrees to it, saying he already has an idea about the right opponent. [38] Wasting four minutes of every fan in attendance and everyone watch it from home, Archie Aldred III walks out here elegantly dressed in white, celebrating his victory from last week and cutting a promo on how he’ll win the Gold Rush match next week to become the inaugural OCW Southern Heavyweight champ. “The Oil Prince” once again tells everyone that he’s here to claim this squared circle just like his family claimed their fortune in the oil business generations ago - by drilling down and striking gold. Archie Aldred III then returns backstage soaking in the boos from the crowd in The Outpost. [35] The Dusty Outlaws vs The War Thunders Making a good impression with their characters, Cockroach Carter and Mercy Michaels are introduced in Outlaw Championship Wrestling as a new heelish tag team called The Dusty Outlaws, given their ungentlemanly ways and scruffy Southern look. Their opponents The War Thunders prove more valuable than them inside the ring, as Eagle Two Tomahawk and Wild Red Stallion scores the victory when "The Eagle" pins Mercy Michaels after ten minutes. Second week, second win for The War Thunders. [34] In a taped video, the vignette opens with a shot of a desert at sunset, where the wind whispers across the sands. A masked luchador dressed in a traditional mariachi suit, appears on the horizon. He stands in the midst of the desert, holding a guitarra de golpe. Without a word, he begins to play a haunting, soulful melody, his fingers dancing across the strings with grace and precision. As the music echoes, the screen fades to black. Who’s this mysterious figure? [37] Cactus Jack vs Harvey Robbinfield Cactus Jack gets in the ring and finds out that he’s opponent is “Mustang” Harvey Robbinfield, another competitor who last week debut with a loss just like Jack Pryde. Not a great match, but designed to tell a specific story in which the cocky Cactus Jack finds himself on the losing end once again, maybe starting realizing that the spoiled heel ain’t that good yet. In nine minutes, Harvey Robbinfield connects his Stampede Driver - a Fireman's Carry To Bodyslam Driver - to score the 1-2-3. The commentary quality lifts the match. [31] The cameras hurriedly take us backstage, pinching a tense moment in the corridors of the venue. "Unbreakable" Luke Steele apparently tried to go toe-to-toe with Big Hustle, who was busy chatting with Gunner Jackson. Gunner Jackson himself had been rescued by Big Hustle last week after Luke Steele's post-match assault. "The Unbreakable" tries to intimidate Big Hustle who, however, proves to be a real big bad ass, standing up to Luke Steele's aggression. After a couple of minutes, tensions subside as multiple staff members and especially the charisma of Governor Ricky Johnson succeed in separating Luke Steele from his "colleagues". [43] Governor Ricky Johnson, however, immediately finds himself having to deal with another situation as The Explosive Receipt confronts him. Dynamite Martin shows his borderline-hyperactive energy levels, practically bouncing off the walls, asking for a match against The War Thunders to avenge their loss from last week. Pepper J supports his partner, but remains more in the background, while Governor Ricky Johnson finds a solution that might please the heel tag team. Next week, Dynamite Martin against Wild Red Stallion, the man who pinned his partner Pepper J last week, sounds good for an avenging opportunity? "The Dynamite" is thrilled at the idea! [46] The Mat Masters vs The Steam Express After their victory last week, The Mat Masters clash this time against a couple of young good-looking bubbly babyfaces who are introduced as The Steam Express. Accompanied to the ring by their valet Sweet Tabitha, here's Jason Patterson and Stanley Axis! Sub-par wrestling and low crowd heat, in an eight minute match that sees Al Coleman and Warren Technique triumph after a good performance. This time it is Warren Technique to score the W, submitting Jason Patterson with a STF. [40] After their clients’ win, sports agent Hern Stately takes the stick and cuts a promo about Al Coleman and Warren Technique, who once again showcase their technicall prowess and their superiority in the squared circle. And just in case anyone still have doubts about who’s the next big thing in the business tag team-wise, The Mat Masters will take these doubts and crush them! Herb Stately struggles a bit going off script. [16] In a pretty abysmal interview, Mya Catalan gets a couple of minutes with Los Spurs, “El Vaquero” Manny Alvarez and Gringo Loco, just to introduce their characters a little more. Manny Alvarez is the one who talks, acting like a cowboy from Mexico (translated as “El Vaquero” in Spanish) here in Outlaw Championship Wrestling to impose himself and become a better pro wrestler. Iron sharps iron, so OCW and its high-level competition seems to him like the perfect opportunity to step up and improve. And he’s more happy than do it alongside his friend, the unique and enigmatic luchador Gringo Loco, who stares straight in the camera with his nutty mask the entire time. [8] Sandman Winks vs Texas Hangman in a Qualifying match In a twelve minutes match featuring some sub-par wrestling, two muscular guys make their debut. Sandman Winks is a competitor from Florida well known for his dangerous holds that could easily put someone asleep, while Texas Hangman is a young big boy from the Lone Star State, good looking yet so menacing. “The Hangman” gets the sympathy from the crowd thanks to Winks’ heel mannerism. The match revolves around “The Sandman” trying to put his opponents asleep, however Texas Hangman is able to break Winks’ sleeper hold, stunning him with a huuuuuge Big Boot, before pinning him with a Choke Slam to secure a spot in the Gold Rush match. A solid debut for “The Hangman”, will he become the inaugural OCW Southern Heavyweight champ? [41] Just like last week, a taped video from The Bucks Saloon is aired, with “The Lone Star Cowboy” Buck Winchester cracking a cold one alongside saloon’s owner Haley Buck. The angle idea from the creative team turns out to be quite a failure, and The Lone Star Cowboy struggles without a script, but he basically explains a little bit about him and his background, before talking about his goal to become the first ever OCW Southern Heavyweight champion next week. [23] Big Hustle vs Cobra in a Qualifying match And the sixth and last qualifying match for the Gold Rush is tonight’s main event. We already saw Big Hustle last week, while his opponent is a new face here in OCW. “The Snake Man” is a mysterious figure from Florida, coming out with his snake inside a white bag, left on the steel steps at ringside. Approaching the bout with a slow build, the competitors wrestle a solid bout, but eventually babyface Big Hustle scores the victory after sixteen minutes, hitting Cobra with a devastating Hustler’s Headbutt tu put him down. Big Hustle is the sixth and last qualified to the Gold Rush match! [41] While celebrating the victory, Big Hustle gets blindsided by “Unbreakable” Luke Steele, with which he had tensions last week. The Australian tries to hit him with his steel chain, but Gunner Jackson comes out and makes the safe, returning favor to Big Hustle! Retrieving on the ramp, “Unbreakable” Luke Steele cuts a promo against Big Hustle, telling him that next week - even though it will be a rush, a Gold Rush - he’ll find all the time he needs to beat his ass down, to which Big Hustle responds fiercely to just bring it to him! A nice rivalry may have already started here on week two, will it also feature the OCW Southern Heavyweight title strap? [33] To close the show, the cameras get backstage, inside Governor Ricky Johnson’s office, when the Commissioner delivers and excellent promo about the upcoming Gold Rush match for the OCW Southern Heavyweight title. “The Oil Prince” Archie Aldred III, “The Lone Star Cowboy“ Buck Winchester, “Unbreakable” Luke Steele, Jerry Lee Tennessee, Texas Hangman and Big Hustle. Who’s going to walk out next week as the inaugural OCW Champion? Who’s going to win the Gold Rush?? More interesting debuts, it's a fun roster that fits well with the promotion.

619
It's impressive how much you've been able to build in such a short space of time, especially around the Gold Rush, and the six-man setup is smart both for creating an air of unpredictability and giving you the flexibility to spin some of the losers into separate stories on the other side. I'm particularly intrigued to see how Luke Steele plays out, as it feels like he could just as easily be a menacing first champion or continue to create carnage and give good guys a mountain to climb away from the title scene. 1
