Pre-show Rock Austin (Dwight Kumas) brought in a karaoke machine which impressed everyone. Meanwhile rookie Bulldozer Brandon Smith got ribbed for how much like Steve Flash he is becoming. Bless him. On with the show.

ECW New York Lights

Weston Gymnasium, New York

Wednesday 4th April, 2007

Attendance: 282

Singles Match: Bulldozer Brandon Smith vs. Rick Sanders

In a decent match, Rick Sanders defeated Bulldozer Brandon Smith in 7:32 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock after blatantly cheating. The match was designed to work the crowd.

Rating: 36

Notes: The rookie gets his shot against the old-hand who impressed enough to keep his job. Tricky Ricky gets a win as we begin to build his momentum and position him as a solid midcarder.

Singles Match: Jefferson Stardust vs. Cameron Vessey

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, Cameron Vessey defeated Jefferson Stardust in 7:56 by pinfall with a Vessey Driver II.

Rating: 25

Notes: We’re still finding the best spot for Cameron Vessey in the company. He’s a bit young and green for an extended push, but keeping him beating other rookies at least keeps him relevant until we find him a storyline.

ECW Tag Team Title Match: The Ring Generals vs. Natural Storm (c)

In a decent match, Natural Storm defeated The Ring Generals in 8:28 when D.C. Rayne pinned Dean Waldorf with a Storm Damage. Natural Storm make defence number five of the ECW Tag Team titles. In terms of in-ring work, D.C. Rayne was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Rating: 35

Notes: Speaking of easy wins. Natural Storm need some true competition. The problem we have is that they’re heel and so our other good team. We need a stop-gap solution. Someone with some name recognition to elevate the titles.

ECW New York Regional Title Match: Spike vs. Frankie Perez (c)

In a decent match, Frankie Perez defeated Spike in 9:36 by submission with a P-Clutch. Frankie Perez makes defence number four of the ECW New York Regional title.

Rating: 38

Notes: This card is all preditable squash matches isn’t it? That’s ok. As things move into place, it’s good to show the strength of the champion. Means when they face proper competitors, it means more.

Singles Match: Steven Parker vs. Des Davids

In a decent match, Des Davids defeated Steven Parker in 7:36 by pinfall with a Quarterback Sack. During the match we also had Frankie Perez accidentally hit Davids.

Rating: 36

Notes: A botched interference to keep the tension simmering between Davids and Perez. Slightly heelish behaviour from the babyface champion here, which highlights how scared he is of the monster rookie.

Angle: Honest Frank is joined by the rest of Hustlers Incorporated as they’re interviewed by Marv Earnest. They have a special surprise for the marks and rubes of ECW. A bonafide superstar whose joining their ranks. So welcome one and all, to Sammy ‘The Kid’ Bach.

Rating: 41

Notes: The more things change aye? Great signing who brings immediate legitimacy and star power to the show. We weren’t sure how long we’d have him, but we were glad he was here.

Kingdom Clash Match: Steve Flash, Ultimate Phoenix & Erik Strong vs. Hustlers Incorporated (Mean Jean Cattley, Sammy Smoke & Sammy ‘The Kid’ Bach)

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Hustlers Incoporated (Sammy ‘The Kid’ Bach, Mean Jean Cattley and Sammy Smoke) defeated Steve Flash, Ultimate Phoenix and Erik Strong in 5:39 when Sammy Smoke pinned Ultimate Phoenix with an Ace In The Hole. In terms of in-ring work, Sammy Bach was head and shoulders above everyone else.

Rating: 47

Notes: Baby Sammy gets the pin, but Kid Sammy gets the plaudits for stealing the show. Solid start for the megastar main eventer. After the match Honest Frank is giddy with joy and demands a match. American Elemental offers his services

Singles Match: American Elemental vs. Honest Frank

In a decent match, American Elemental defeated Honest Frank in 10:19 by pinfall with a Freedom Splash.

Rating: 38

Notes: Clean win for Elemental as the rest of Hustlers Inc. left to celebrate the joining of The Kid. Honest Frank was not impressed.

Angle: ‘The Platinum One’ James Prudence joins Marv Earnest ahead of the main event. His focus is on the Darstardly Donnie J. He’s never heard of Mainstream Hernandez, but he has heart of the Rookie Sensation Joshua Taylor. He’s happy with his partner of choice.

Rating: 42

Notes: He’s so dreamy.

Tag Team Match: James Prudence & Joshua Taylor vs. Donnie J & Mainstream Hernandez

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, James Prudence and Joshua Taylor drew with Donnie J and Mainstream Hernandez in 23:36 following a double disqualification.

Rating: 50

Notes: The schmozz finish to keep everyone strong (or weak depending on how you look at these things). Mainstream continued to bring the goods. The way we’ve booked him, he’s main event ready. But with new stars joining each week, we’d have to work hard to avoid him being lost in the shuffle.

Overall Rating: 46

The fiery Jacob Jett joined CGC and we looked towards our first big event since Beginnings. We’d built some stories beautifully, but big names demand big changes. And we were ready to accommodate… providing they kept up their end of the bargain.

Ahead of our biggest show to date, a few of the guys came to me to tell me that Mainstream Hernandez is just so cheerful and lovely. Ok then. That’s pretty cool.

ECW Spring Smash

Weston Gymnasium, New York

Wednesday 25th April 2007

Attendance: 285

Triple Threat Match: American Elemental vs. Cameron Vessey vs. Sammy Smoke

In a decent match, American Elemental defeated Cameron Vessey and Sammy Smoke in 10:15 when American Elemental pinned Cameron Vessey with a Freedom Splash. The match was designed to work the crowd.

Rating: 42

Notes: American Elemental was far to good to be a jobbing midcarder. It was time to heat him up. Vessey can take the loss and perhaps this might be the beginnings of a mini-feud.

Singles Match: Steven Parker vs. Mean Jean Cattley

In a decent match, Mean Jean Cattley defeated Steven Parker in 9:48 by pinfall with a Mood Swing.

Rating: 38

Notes: Interesting, these two have good Chemistry, which feels like a massive benefit for MAW. Good for them, I always liked the company and as you may have noticed, I like their roster too.

ECW Tag Team Title Match: Erik Strong & Jefferson Stardust vs. Natural Storm (c)

In a decent match, Natural Storm defeated Erik Strong and Jefferson Stardust in 9:39 when D.C. Rayne pinned Erik Strong with a Storm Damage. The match was designed to tell a specific story. Natural Storm make defence number six of the ECW Tag Team titles.

Rating: 31

Notes: Was a squash match? Almost. But at the end of the day, we want the tag team titles to mean something. Nothing will stop us boosting the prestige of our fledgling floating titles.

ECW New York Regional Title Match: Des Davids vs. Frankie Perez (c)

In a decent match, Frankie Perez defeated Des Davids in 9:48 by submission with a P-Clutch. Frankie Perez makes defence number five of the ECW New York Regional title.

Rating: 45

Notes: A clean loss for Des Davids as he proves a little too green to be winning the title from our workshorse. But my word, what a match. We may have to run these two through again. It can only be beneficial for them AND us to be putting on such great matches.

Singles Match: Steve Flash vs. Donnie J

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Donnie J defeated Steve Flash in 22:15 by pinfall with a Death On Miami Beach.

Rating: 41

Notes: Steve Flash ended up with a broken nose, which made the normally affable Donnie J look like an absolute killer. A good match as you might expect from these two and the rebuilding of The Fly Boy begins.

Angle: James Prudence is ready for the triple threat match for his title tonight. Mainstream may be the future of the business, but the future isn’t now. And as for Sammy Bach... he’s a garbage wrestler and not worthy of the title.

Rating: 40

Notes: Surprisingly vicious take down of Bach there. Good promo though.

ECW Empire Heavyweight Title Match: Mainstream Hernandez vs. Sammy Bach vs. James Prudence (c)

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, James Prudence defeated Mainstream Hernandez and Sammy Bach in 21:41 when James Prudence submitted Sammy Bach with a Prudential Pain Plan. James Prudence makes defence number three of the ECW Empire Heavyweight.

Rating: 59

Notes: Our best match ever, but the result is likely a little surprising. Especially considering how clean the submission win was. Something is afoot with Sammy Bach and we did not like it. Still one-on-one rematch on the cards.

Overall Rating: 53

And the month ended quietly after all the chaos and drama of recent months. Spring Smash was a success and we were very pleased. So pleased that we started throwing out contract offers to all comers. And we steamed into April with the beginnings of a real plan.
