GWF: Breakdown Preview
GWF: Breakdown Preview This Sunday GWF returns to Pay Per View with our second ever huge event, GWF: Breakdown. Here’s all of the action that you can expect this Sunday. –vs.- Jack Evans –vs- Frankie Kazarian Both Jack Evans and Frankie Kazarian believe that they are the future of this business, and this match will put them to the test. Whoever wins this match will have the right to refer themselves as ‘The Future.’ –vs.- Josh Matthews –vs.- CM Punk Since the first ever GWF: Breakthrough two months ago Josh Matthews has tried to secure an interview with CM Punk, but each time he tried he failed. Things came to a head this last Saturday when CM Punk slapped Josh Matthews down to the ground. Has Josh Matthews made a huge mistake in challenging CM Punk to a match at GWF: Breakdown? –vs.- Jeff Hardy –vs- Sean O’Haire After costing Sean O’Haire his place in the GWF World Championship tournament last month at GWF: No Remorse, Sean O’Haire has been after revenge. Giving his word that his ‘backup’ Mark Jindrak will not figure into this match what will happen with this two will face off on their own? –vs.- Juventud Guerrera© -vs.- Jimmy Yang GWF Cruiserweight Championship Jimmy Yang won the number one contender ship to the GWF Cruiserweight Championship in a battle royal four weeks ago on GWF: Breakthrough. Jimmy Yang outlasted nine other men to win that match, but will his luck hold out till this Sunday when he faces the GWF Cruiserweight Champion Juventud Guerrera for the championship? –vs.- Paul London & Spanky© -vs- Ken Doane & Johnny Jeter GWF Tag Team Championships Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter immediately made an impact on their arrival in GWF, by attacking the GWF Tag Team Champions Paul London and Spanky that ended with them throwing the champions of off the GWF: Breakthrough set. Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter say that they don’t want to be remembered as a joke, and that when they win the GWF Tag Team Championships from Paul London and Spanky then everyone treated them seriously. Paul London and Spanky are obviously not taking them seriously is their actions on the latest GWF: Breakthrough is anything to go by. The tag team champions came down to the ring after Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter’s match and mocked them for their former personalities. Was this a wise thing to do, or has it just rubbed salts into the wounds of Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter? –vs.- Charlie Haas –vs- Chris Jericho GWF World Championship In the finals of the GWF World Championship Tournament Charlie Haas will face Chris Jericho, but this match has just got even more personal. On the last edition of GWF: Breakthrough Chris Jericho said that he liked to manipulate people to get what he wants, but when Charlie Haas refused to give him what he wanted Chris Jericho, in an utter disrespectful act, destroyed the gravestone of Charlie Haas’s brother Russ Haas. Charlie Haas had wanted to leave all of this in the ring, but now there is no possibility of this. Chris Jericho has crossed the line, and Charlie Haas wants to make him suffer for it. With so much emotion going into this match, just who is going to be the first ever GWF World Champion? Plus The ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?’ Challenge Don Callis revealed last Saturday on GWF: Breakthrough that Chris Kanyon is preparing for the next ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?’ challenge, that he will issue at GWF: Breakdown. With Chris Kanyon’s personal referee Rick Knoxx in the picture will anyone answer it? And The Return of Ken Shamrock Last month at GWF: No Remorse Ken Shamrock was attacked before his match with Chris Jericho, and as a result has spent the last month in the hospital. Now he been released and is after his attacker. Will Chris Jericho finally be proved right when he said that he never attacked Ken Shamrock, or will he be proved wrong? GWF: Breakdown is this Sunday, and only on PPV, don’t miss this historic night!
Credit: GWF.com ------------ Ok let’s see how this goes. Depending on response, i.e. more than one, I’m holding a prediction contest with a prize of naming the next month’s PPV. So theres one point for correctly predicting the winner of a match, that goes up to two points if it’s a title match. There’s also three points for answering the following questions. 1 – Who attacked Ken Shamrock? 2 – What match will start the show? Also there’s a massive five points for correctly answering this question. Who answers the ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?’ Challenge? So theres 20 points up for grabs, the person with the most points, obviously, wins. So lets see this fall right on it’s face. ------------
I only just started reading this dynasty, but it looks great to me. One note though, it's really been bothering me... You write 'pryos' instead of 'pyros'. Just thought I'd mention it, it's driving me nuts.
I never knew just how in the hell to spell that, so I went with one way, and it was obviously the other one. Sorry about that, but it’s, hopefully, fixed now.

Did the Jericho/Haas segment seem like the kind of crap the WWE would pull? I mean, it was well written and such, but seems to be in bad taste really. Anyway, my predictions: Kazarian over Evans Punk over Matthews O'Haire over Hardy (by cheating somehow) Juvi over Yang London and Spanky over Spirit Squad Jericho over Haas Punk and Matthews first And someone new attacked Shamrock a new signing perhaps.
Did the Jericho/Haas segment seem like the kind of crap the WWE would pull? I mean, it was well written and such, but seems to be in bad taste really.
I know that this is the kind of thing that if it happened in real life then it would be deplored by, well, everyone. I hope it will never happen in the real world, it's just that I wanted to show that Chris Jericho will do anything and everything to get what he wants. I was in two minds whether to post that passage, or to delete it, and on three seperate occassions I came back to it and did delete it, only to tipe it out all over again. I know it was in bad taste, and I can honestly say that I will never write anything like that again. I'm just sorry that I came up with the whole idea in the first place. Anyway, thanks for the reply and I've actually jut started to read you're diary and I'm impressed. I'll read the rest of it tomorrow, but for now I'm beat. GWF: Breakdown should be posted in the next couple of days so anyone who wants to enter the prediction contest to win the once in a lifetime opportunity of the greatest prize ever do it and do it soon! See Ya!
Anyway, thanks for the reply and I've actually jut started to read you're diary and I'm impressed. I'll read the rest of it tomorrow, but for now I'm beat.
I assume you're talking about Rebirth and not my new TNA one, seeing as the latter only has one show posted... At least, I think I posted that show... Anyway, thanks for the praise.

I know it's just a diary, but it's exactly the same as when the entire IWC was up in arms over Randy Orton saying Eddie was in hell, or the whole Chavo/Vickie vs Rey/Benoit storyline (it's been over a year now you realize). I'm just making sure we don't see a great dynasty go the way of the WWE. I was just expressing my opinion.

What we have is more of a forced together sort of thing. So never say the word ‘partner’ about me again. If you have to talk about it I’m you’re working colleague, got it?” Joey Styles: “Ok then folks this is my broadcast colleague, and once again I’d like to welcome you to GWF: Breakdown and thank you for inviting us into your homes tonight. We’ve got a stacked night of action tonight, topped off with the main event of Charlie Haas –vs.- Chris Jericho in the final of the GWF World Championship Tournament for the GWF World Championship. This one took a turn for the worse on the last GWF: Breakthrough though, when Chris Jericho smashed the gravestone of Charlie Haas’s brother Russ Haas. From what I’ve heard Charlie Haas is out for blood tonight, Chris Jericho’s blood…” Don Callis: “I mean come on, I actually have to physically stop myself from sticking pens down my ears to puncture my ear drums just to stop listen to you Joey, and you want to call us partners.” Rating: B- –vs.- Jack Evans –vs- Frankie Kazarian Ref: Charles Robinson To kick of the action tonight it was the battle of the future of this business as Jack Evans and Frankie Kazarian battled it out, Even though this was the opening match it was the shortest of the night. Jack Evans came down to the ring first to some cheers, but not many. Frankie Kazarian then made his entrance, again to a little reaction from the crowd but again not much. By the end of the match however the crowd are on their feet as the match that these two put on is a brilliant one. Much to Frankie Kazarain’s dismay though Jack Evans had the control firmly in his hands at the beginning of the match. He controlled every aspect of it; he looked to have the match won when he was going up to the top rope to hit the corkscrew 630, which would have finished this match. However as the ref was getting out of Jack Evan’s way, Frankie Kazarian stuck out his foot, this caused Charles Robinson to trip and he grabbed the ropes to stop himself from falling down. However this had caused Jack Evans to crotch himself on the top ropes thanks to the ropes shaking. It was now Frankie Kazarian’s chance to shine. He was obviously playing possum as Frankie Kazarian got up to his feet and ran over to where Jack Evans was still perched up on the top rope, there he set him up for the flux capacitor. Before he hit the move though he shouted out to the crowd “Now you’ll see who the future really is.” To the gasps of the crowd Frankie Kazarian nailed Jack Evans with the flux capacitor, from there the pin was academic. Frankie Kazarian wins the battle of the future of this business. Winner at 12.14 - Frankie Kazarian Rating: C+ We go backstage for the first time tonight, to where Josh Matthews waiting. Josh Matthews: “I’m here with Chris Jericho, and there’s only one question I have to ask. How can you even show your face here tonight after what you did on GWF: Breakthrough.” Chris Jericho: “I’m not ashamed of what I did Josh, do you want me to be? I would do it again, it’s like I said I would do anything, ANYTHING, to get what I want. And what more than anything is the GWF World Championship. I’ve done what’s necessary…” Josh Matthews: “Necessary? No Chris, what you did was not necessary, what you did crossed the line. I mean I’ve seen some things in this business, things that I’m not proud of, it doesn’t fill me with pride to say to my family that this is what I do. It doesn’t matter what you want, you should have left it in the ring, in my opinion…” Chris Jericho: “Did I ask to hear your opinion? Did I ask to hear anything that you just said, did I even ask for this interview? I will say it again, I did what was necessary to get what I want, and I would and could do it again without a moment hesitation. On a more personal note though Josh, I know tonight that you’ve got a match against CM Punk, and I hope that he kicks you a**!” Chris Jericho then just smirks at Josh Matthews as he walks off down the corridor. Josh Matthews: ”Well I guess that the a**hole has said all he wants, so it’s back to you at ringside.” Rating: B+ –vs.- Paul London & Spanky© -vs- Ken Doane & Johnny Jeter GWF Tag Team Championships Ref: Brian Hebner Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter came down the ramp for this match first, showing no emotion or any trademarked jumping up and down that they used to do. When they entered the ring, Brian Hebner sneezed, but Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter misunderstood this as a stifled laugh, thinking that he was laughing at them. The two started to back Brian Hebner into a corner, asking him what was so damn funny, they were just about to slap him when the GWF Tag Team Champions made their much more explosive entrance. Running down the ramp and sliding into the ring, they immediately attacked Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter, much to the relief of Brain Hebner, who signalled the bell to be rung to start this match. The more experienced team of Paul London & Spanky completely dominated the inexperienced team of Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter; they out wrestled them from the very beginning. This wasn’t going to stop the challengers though; just because they were being outwrestled doesn’t mean that they were going to be beaten quite so easily. When Johnny Jeter was in the ring with Paul London, Ken Doane got off of the apron and went to attack Spanky on the outside. This meant that Brian Hebner had to intervene to try and break the fight that had broken outside of the ring, while in the ring Johnny Jeter low blowed Paul London, and immediately this match was going in a new direction. As soon as Johnny Jeter landed the low blow Ken Doane broke off the fight on the outside with Spanky, allowing Brian Hebner to get back into the ring, where Johnny Jeter was firmly in control of the match. Paul London was still suffering the effects of the low blow and Johnny Jeter was not allowing him to catch his breath even for one second. The challengers made quick tags to each other, keeping themselves fresh, while Paul London was isolated on the wrong side of the ring. This went on for quite a while, following the normal tag team formula. Spanky was itching to get into the ring, and he started to get the crowd to clap in support of Paul London and feeding off of the crowd Paul London just managed to gain a little momentum, and hit a well timed drop sault on Ken Doane. Paul London started to crawl to his corner, as did Ken Doane. The two men were inching closer and closer to each other, and Ken Doane was the one to get there first, the ref signalled for him to get in the ring, and at the exact same time Paul London tagged in Spanky. The ref however didn’t see any of this and blocked Spanky from entering the match. While Spanky was protesting that he tagged it, Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter dragged Paul London back to their corner and double-teamed him. Again Paul London was in the wrong side of the ring, and it looked like he was running out. In an act of desperation, and an adrenaline rush, Paul London started to fight back, and taking Ken Doane by surprise, he rolled him up into a small package, for the three count. Immediately after the ref’s hand came down Spanky was in the ring, and threw the protesting Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter over the top rope. Paul London got back to his feet and the tag team champions stared down their challengers with their GWF Tag Team Championship belts raised above their heads. Winners at 13.47, and still GWF Tag Team Champions - Paul London & Spanky Rating: B+ We go back to Joey Styles and Don Callis at the announcers table. Don Callis: “It’s not just that your voice sounds like ten thousand nails on a blackboard, it’s just that well…” Joey Styles: “Oh will you shut up, Ok I’m sorry that I said broadcast partner instead of broadcast colleague but can you just please, PLEASE, let it drop?” Don Callis: “Fine, if you want to be like that but it’s not over.” Joey Styles: “I’m sure it’s not, but Paul London and Spanky were lucky to leave that match with the GWF Tag Team Championships.” Don Callis: “Lucky doesn’t factor into in Joey, Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter were robbed and I’m sure that we haven’t seen the last of this. Coming up next though is Jeff Hardy –vs.- Sean O’Haire. The question though is what plan has Sean O’Haire come up with tonight?” Joey Styles: “It’s got to involve Mark Jindrak.” Don Callis: “What? You know Joey that Sean O’Haire has given his word…” Joey Styles: “Oh please, his word amounts to nothing Don and I bet my job here tonight that Mark Jindrak will be involved in this match.” Don Callis: “I’m taking you up on that Joey, you’re going to live to regret that because I’m personally going to show you the door.” Rating: C- A video plays showing the lead up to this match, including the beat down two weeks ago by Sean O’Haire and Mark Jindrak on Jeff Hardy. It finishes with Jeff Hardy chasing Sean O’Haire on the last GWF: Breakthrough. Rating: C- –vs.- Jeff Hardy –vs- Sean O’Haire Ref: Charles Robinson True to his word Sean O’Haire came down to the ring without his ‘backup’ in tow. Jeff Hardy made his entrance and as soon as he got into the ring the two men were going at it. With both men fighting tooth and nail Charles Robinson had trouble keeping any semblance of order, all though he did try. Things were getting pretty bad for Sean O’Haire, with Jeff Hardy in the advantage for the beginning of the match; Sean O’Haire was no match for Jeff Hardy’s more speedy offence. Sean O’Haire was trying to get Jeff Hardy grounded, but he couldn’t catch him to do it. At the halfway point in the match Sean O’Haire slid out of the ring, and took refuge on the outside. Only for Jeff Hardy to get outside the ring and run the rail, knocking Sean O’Haire down flat. With Charles Robinson counting both men out, Jeff Hardy rolled Sean O’Haire back into the ring, but as Jeff was climbing back in Sean O’Haire was back up on his feet. He pounced on Jeff Hardy, and whipped him to the ropes. Only Jeff Hardy rebounded and tried to nail a flying cross arm, but Sean O’Haire ducked the attempt and Jeff Hardy connected with the move on the referee Charles Robinson. Jeff Hardy went to check on Robinson, as Sean O’Haire just slumped in the corner and started to laugh, as Mark Jindrak ran out from the back with a steel chair in hand. Mark Jindrak slid into the ring, but Jeff Hardy was now shaking the referee to try and wake him. Jeff sensing something was wrong turned around, only to be met with a steel chair shot from Mark Jindrak for his trouble. Mark Jindrak quickly slid out of the ring, as Sean O’Haire made the cover while Charles Robinson started to stir. Sean O’Haire was getting impatient though as Charles Robinson was taking his time, but when he did shake the cobwebs out of his head he saw the cover and started to count. 1...2...3, WAIT, no Jeff Hardy kicked out just at the last second. Sean O’Haire couldn’t believe this though and started to protest to Robinson that it was a three count. Sean O’Haire couldn’t believe it, he scooped Jeff Hardy up off of the mat and nailed him with the prophecy and went for the pin again. This was all too much for Jeff Hardy, the steel chair shot and the prophecy were too much for him and he was unable to kick out, giving Sean O’Haire the win. Winner at 14.13 - Sean O’Haire Rating: C+ We’re once again with Josh Matthews whose now standing by with Charlie Haas. Josh Matthews: “First off Charlie Haas, I’d like to say I’m sorry for the whole of GWF over what happened with well you know…When Chris Jericho did what, well what he did.” Charlie Haas: “I never thought, not once, that some one would be disgusting enough to do what Chris Jericho did to my brother grave. What Chris Jericho has done hasn’t just affected me, it’s affected my whole family. I’ve had to consoul my mom on the phone, I could hardly understand her she was crying enough, and my Dad, well I’ve had to talk my Dad out of coming down here tonight with a shotgun to get his own payback. Chris Jericho tonight I have promised to get payback for my whole family. I’ve promised my mom I’ll make you bleed. I’ve promised my Dad that I’ll break your arm and I’ve promised my brother that I’ll win this match tonight, and win it for him. So Chris Jericho you wanted to find my weak spot, well bullseye you’ve got a hit, but Chris tonight I fulfill my promises to my brother and make you pay for what you’ve done to them, what you’ve done to us, what you’ve done to Russ. Tonight you’ll wish that you’d just left it in the ring. ” Rating: B Back in the ring Chris Kanyon is in the ring with his personal referee Rick Knoxx. Chris Kanyon: “Now I know that a lot of my fans were disappointed in the fact that I wasn’t at the last GWF: Breakthrough, judging by the amount of mail enquiring about my welfare. Now I don’t want to you all to worry, the reason I wasn’t at GWF: Breakthrough was because I was training. I don’t want you all to be bored with me, or my matches so to make sure that you all still love and adore me, so I took some time out to update my already brilliant arsenal. So, back to tonight I’m here to issue another ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?” challenge, for anyone to face me tonight. But if my previous opponents are anything to go by I won’t have any worries here tonight, I mean have you seen some of the people here. Come on, I’m major league, some of the people in this place aren’t even little league. I mean…” Chris Kanyon is cut off as the sound of drums start to play in the arena, Chris Kanyon seems to be a little confused, and that only gets worse as the entrance way is now covered in smoke, and then the drums stop and the smoke begins to clear to reveal BILL GOLDBERG. Bill Goldberg is here in GWF, the crowd are going mad at this and Chris Kanyon can’t believe it. Bill Goldberg gets into the ring and comes face to face with Chris Kanyon, who is physically shaking. Rick Knoxx is not much better, as he’s backing himself into the corner. Chris Kanyon doesn’t know what to do, he’s trying to find a way out, but there isn’t one so he does something idiotic, he smashes the mic into the head of Bill Goldberg, who just shakes it off and starts to lay rights and lefts into Chris Kanyon. Rick Knoxx doesn’t know what else to do and signals for the bell to ring, it looks like Bill Goldberg has answered the ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?’ Challenge. Rating: B- –vs.- Bill Golberg –vs.- Chris Kanyon The ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon? Challenge Ref: Rick Knoxx Obviously hitting Bill Goldberg over the head with a microphone is really not a good idea if how he is reacting is anything to go by. The usual smug and c**cky Chris Kanyon’s smile is completely knocked off of his face, and Rick Knoxx doesn’t want anything to do with Bill Goldberg either. Bill Goldberg is completely dominating Chris Kanyon at every turn, Chris Kanyon isn’t getting a look in and the crowd love it. So is Bill Goldberg, he seems to be toying with Chris Kanyon and doesn’t look to be in any hurry to finish this match. Bill Goldberg has just flattened Chris Kanyon with an absolutely brutal close line, and signals for the end, he starts to stalk Chris Kanyon and waits for him to get up, looking to hit him with the spear. Chris Kanyon doesn’t know where he is as he gets to his feet, and stumbles over to the ropes for some sort of support, he turns around to be met with the sight of Bill Goldberg as he charges and connects with the spear. Bill Goldberg is not playing games now as he scoops Chris Kanyon back up of the mat, and slams him straight back down with the jackhammer. Goldberg goes for the cover, but Rick Knoxx isn’t counting, Rick Knoxx is refusing to count the three. Bill Goldberg just stares at Rick Knoxx, who is shaking his head but is cowering in the corner, not sure why he’s refusing to count. Bill Goldberg just snorts at Rick Knoxx and then spears the ref, he sends Rick Knoxx right down to the mat. The crowd love every part of this, but the match is now without a referee. Bill Goldberg signals for another ref to come down, as Brian Hebner runs down the ramp, Bill Goldberg covers Chris Kanyon again and Brian Hebner makes the count. 1…2…3. Yes Bill Goldberg has pinned Chris Kanyon. Winner at 13.24 - Bill Goldberg Rating: C- After the match Bill Goldberg walks back up the ramp, leaving carnage in the ring as Rick Knoxx is still out of it and Chris Kanyon is just starting to stir back to life. When Bill Goldberg is halfway up the ramp though, his music cuts out and Ken Shamrock’s kicks in. Bill Goldberg is confused, but Ken Shamrock comes out and stands at the top of the stage while the crowd cheer him. Ken Shamrock locks eyes with Bill Goldberg and the two slowly walk towards each other, finally coming face to face. The crowd have now gone quiet, could it be? Could Bill Goldberg be the man to have attacked Ken Shamrock at GWF: No Remorse? No man is moving, saying or doing anything, just staring at each other, Ken Shamrock is the first one to move though, as he sticks his hand out, and Bill Goldberg takes it. The two men shake hands at the top of the ramp as the crowd erupts. Ken Shamrock then sidesteps Bill Goldberg and makes his way down to the ring, where Chris Kanyon is struggling back to his feet. Ken Shamrock slides into the ring just as Chris Kanyon turns around and comes face to face with Ken Shamrock, Chris Kanyon’s face just falls he now realises that his night has just got a hell of a lot worse. Chris Kanyon tries to beg off, but Ken Shamrock’s not having any of it, he grabs Chris Kanyon and nails him with a belly-to-belly suplex. Ken Shamrock then locks in the ankle lock on Chris Kanyon as he screams in agony, this is defiantly not Chris Kanyon’s night. Ken Shamrock holds the ankle lock though, as security starts to pour out the back and into the ring to try and pry off Ken Shamrock. Eventually it takes around twenty men to get Ken Shamrock safely out of the ring and away from Chris Kanyon. Security starts to drag the protesting Ken Shamrock back up the ramp as Chris Kanyon screams in agony in the ring and medics check on his ankle. We go back to Ken Shamrock, whose now been dragged backstage, when he finally seems to have calmed down and security let him go. Josh Matthews then rushes on to the scene. Josh Matthews: “Ken Shamrock, can we take it that the man who attacked you at GWF: No Remorse was…” Ken Shamrock: “Chris Kanyon, yes Josh it was. Chris Kanyon blindsided me before my GWF World Championship Tournament Semi-Final match with Chris Jericho, but Chris Kanyon if you think what happened to you tonight was bad, you haven’t seen anything yet. You think you’ve felt pain tonight, next time I get my hands on you I’ll break your ankle. I’m going to break your ankle right in two.” Rating: B- Ken Shamrock then storms off, as Josh Matthews is just about to send it back to the ring when he catches sight of Bill Goldberg. Josh Matthews runs over to him. Josh Matthews: “Bill Goldberg just what are you doing here…” Bill Goldberg: “I’m here to fight Josh, simple as. Chris Kanyon you were victim number one, who’s next I don’t know but you can bet who ever wins the GWF World Championship tonight will be at the very top of that list.” Bill Goldberg then walks off down the corridor. Josh Matthews: “Right ok I’ve got to go and get ready for my match so it’s back to you guys at ringside.” Rating: B+ –vs.- Juventud Guerrera© -vs.- Jimmy Yang GWF Cruiserweight Championship Ref: Charles Robinson After all of that the crowd seem a little worn out, so don’t really pay attention to this match. It’s a shame really because these two put on a great show, at various points in this match we find Frankie Kazarian in the back paying very close attention to this match on a monitor. The match ends with Juventud Guerrera connecting with the 450 splash on Jimmy Yang for the three count and the win, successfully defending the GWF Cruiserweight Championship. Winner at 13.52 and still GWF Cruiserweight Champion - Juventud Guerrera Rating: B We go backstage where we find a happy Frankie Kazarian walking down a corridor, he comes to a stop outside of Eric Bischoff’s office, he barges into the room to find Eric Bischoff talking to someone. Eric Bischoff: “Listen, we’ll carry on with this later.” The other man walks out of the room, Frankie Kazarian waits for Eric Bischoff to say something. Eric Bischoff: “Well?” Frankie Kazarian: “I thought, you know, since I won match here tonight against Jack Evans that you might give me a shot at the GWF Cruiserweight Championship.” Eric Bischoff: “Why would you think something like that?” Frankie Kazarian: “Well, I just won the battle of the future…” Eric Bischoff: “No, what you did was win a match, one match. That doesn’t mean that you are going to get a GWF Cruiserweight Championship shot, you’ve still got to show me that you want it, you’ve got to prove to me that you deserve a GWF Cruiserweight Championship shot. Now I’ve got other stuff I need to do.” With that Eric Bischoff leaves a much more downtrodden Frankie Kazarian alone in his office. Frankie Kazarian: “Fine, if you want me to prove it to you then I will!” Rating: C- –vs.- Josh Matthews –vs.- CM Punk Ref: Charles Robinson CM Punk makes his way down to this match first, forcibly trying to stop himself from laughing, he comes down to a few boos from the crowd. Josh Matthews then comes down to the ring, to a few cheers from the crowd, but not many. Josh Matthews then gets in the ring, and CM Punk just stands there in the middle of the ring with his hands behind his back. Charles Robinson starts this match, but CM Punk doesn’t move, he’s offering Josh Matthews a free shot. Josh Matthews is obviously wary of this, but he does edge closer and closer to CM Punk. All the weeks of torment from CM Punk, all the slaps, the pushing and the physical intimidation makes Josh Matthews more bold than he would have been in this situation, Josh Matthews looks at the smug face of CM Punk, who is still standing there, and Matthews nails Punk right in the face with a dropkick that sends him right down to the mat to a good pop from the crowd. Josh Matthews doesn’t waste any time, and is like a tiger as he pounces on CM Punk lying on the mat, in shock that he was taken down so easily. Josh Matthews will not let CM Punk off of the mat, knowing that if he lets Punk up to his feet he will stand no chance. CM Punk though is not about to be humiliated like this though, and avoiding Josh Matthews’ latest barrage he gets back up to his feet and unleashes a viscous set of left and right hands on Josh Matthews. Backing him in a corner CM Punk will not let Josh Matthews get a look in, he starts to lay boot into the midsection of Josh Matthews, and it is now painfully obvious that Josh Matthews is no match for CM Punk. CM Punk is defiantly not laughing now, he delivers a brutal running closeline on Josh Matthews and then follows it up with a running bulldog. Josh Matthews is now laying prone in the ring, as CM Punk stands over him and mockingly slaps Josh Matthews in the face a few times before locking in the straight edge. This is all too much for Josh Matthews to take, and with what little strength he has he taps out to CM Punk. After the bell is rung CM Punk refuses to let go of the hold though, and keeps it locked in for a while after the bell. Before going back up the ramp though CM Punk grabs a mic and stands over the fallen Josh Matthews. CM Punk: “Do you want to interview me now huh Josh? Will you leave me alone now Josh? Will you leave me alone? Answer me Josh, ANSWER ME.” CM Punk then just starts to laugh and slaps the face of Josh Matthews one last time as medics run down to the ring to help Josh Matthews, who is not moving. Rating: B We now go back to Joey Styles and Don Callis at the announcer’s table. Joey Styles: “Is it not enough for CM Punk that he won the match, but he has to kick a man when he’s down?” Don Callis: “If I was CM Punk I would have done a lot more after what Josh Matthews has done to him over the past week…” Joey Styles: “The man wanted an interview Don, that’s all he wanted…” Don Callis: “Yes and look where that got him, but enough talking about the worthless Josh Matthews, let’s talk about something else.” Joey Styles: “Your just upset that Chris Kanyon lost.” Don Callis: “You have no idea what you’re talking about do you?” Joey Styles: “Yes I do, but we’ve still got more to come tonight because the main event is coming up next. We will decide who will be the first ever GWF World Championship in the final of the GWF World Championship Tournament.” Rating: B- A video plays showing the buildup to this match, from Eric Bischoff announcing the tournament to the semi final matches at GWF: No Remorse. The video ends with the sickening event that happened on the last GWF: Breakthrough, when Chris Jericho smashed the gravestone of Charlie Haas’s brother Russ Haas. Rating: B –vs.- Charlie Haas –vs- Chris Jericho GWF World Championship Tournament Final GWF World Championship Ref: Brian Hebner The arena goes pitch black, as a countdown begins on the big screen, signalling the arrival of our first competitor in this match. The lights in the arena come back on as Chris Jericho makes his way down to the ring to the loudest reaction here tonight, the majority of the people here are giving Chris Jericho a huge amount of abuse, but there are a few smattering of cheers here and there. Chris Jericho doesn’t seem to care; he actually starts to laugh, even harder when a man on the front row sticks his middle finger into his face. Jericho gets in the ring and awaits his opponent, his music cuts out and the arena now is alive with chants of ‘Haas, Haas, Haas.’ Charlie Haas’s music starts and the crowd go absolutely wild as the other man in this match makes his way to the ring. This isn’t the same Charlie Haas that we know though, as Charlie Haas runs down the ramp, and slides into the ring and goes straight after Chris Jericho. The ref quickly rings the bell and this match is under way. Brian Hebner has already lost control of this match, and he just lets the two men go at it. Charlie Haas is unrelenting his attack on Chris Jericho, and when Chris Jericho manages to slide to the outside trying to get away from him, Charlie Haas gets out of the ring as well to continue his assault on Chris Jericho. Hebner starts a ten count, but neither man seems to be paying any attention to it. Charlie Haas is after revenge, and Chris Jericho may be rethinking his actions. It is only when the count gets up to eight that Charlie Haas slides back in the ring, only to roll right back out again forcing Brian Hebner to start again, this match is turning violent real soon. Charlie Haas whips Chris Jericho into the guardrail sending Chris Jericho into it with a sickening force. Charlie Haas won’t give it up on Jericho that easily though; he gets Jericho back up and whips him straight into the ring post. By now Brian Hebner has reach eight once again, Charlie Haas rolls Chris Jericho back into the ring and he follows. Chris Jericho is now bleeding from a cut over his right eye, and Charlie Haas looks pleased at this. Jericho tries to beg off, saying he’s sorry, but the apology is not accepted. Charlie Haas goes to attack Jericho once again, but with the position of the ref Chris Jericho lands a low blow and Brian Hebner doesn’t see what happens. Charlie Haas slumps to the mat, and Chris Jericho has valuable time to recover from the assault from Charlie Haas. Brian Hebner is now looking to try to find out why Chris Jericho and Charlie Haas are lying on the mat, he has no choice but to start yet another ten count. By the count of six there is no movement, the count of seven still no movement, eight Charlie Haas slowly starts to get up, nine Chris Jericho is just getting up but very slowly, but by the count of ten the two men are back to their feet and are now slugging it out in the middle of the ring. Chris Jericho though is still feeling the affects of the attack by Charlie Haas, and blood is gushing freely from his wound above his eye. Chris Jericho is soon on the loosing foot because of this as Charlie Haas starts to back him up against the ropes, but when Charlie Haas goes to nail him with a right hand to the wound of Chris Jericho, Jericho ducks it and then close lines Charlie Haas over the top rope and to the floor below. Charlie Haas clutches at his ankle, obviously in pain, and looking at the replay it is obvious why. Charlie Haas landed on it funny, but now a weak spot has been revealed Chris Jericho is quick to pounce. Jericho gets out of the ring and rolls Haas into the ring, following him in Chris Jericho drags Charlie Haas into the middle of the ring and locks in the walls of Jericho. Haas is now screaming in pain, but he is in the middle of the ring with nowhere to go. Haas slowly starts to crawl to the ropes, the crowd are now cheering him on, willing him to reach the ropes, but when Charlie Haas’s fingertips just touch the bottom rope Chris Jericho pulls him back into the middle of the ring. Charlie Haas is now waning, and a bloodied Chris Jericho arches his back to get more leverage, Charlie Haas has no choice, his raises his hand and taps out. Charlie Haas taps out to the walls of Jericho and we have a new champion. Winner at 19.21 and NEW GWF World Champion – Chris Jericho Rating: B Chris Jericho, bruised and bloodied falls down to his knees as he is handed the GWF World Champion to boos from the crowd. Medics come down to the ring to check on Charlie Haas who is still clutching at his ankle. Chris Jericho doesn’t care he is now on the top ropes, with the GWF World Championship raised high above his head. As medics help Charlie Haas to the back. Don Callis: “We have our champion, we have our first ever GWF World Champion. Chris Jericho win the match, but that’s all we have time for tonight so it’s goodbye from me and from my broadcast partner…” Joey Styles: “Wait, what?” GWF: Breakdown fades to black with a victorious Chris Jericho celebrating his win. The Wrestling Wire 06/30/07 So the big showdown between WWE and GWF has now come and gone, but who came out of it the best? Which wrestler has announced his retirement from this business? And what did we think of that angle? That’s all in this week’s edition of ‘The Wrestling Wire.’ ------------------ WWE CELEBRATES THE USA, IN THE UK? The Great American Bash, traditionally celebrates everything about the good old USA, so where better than to hold The Great American bash, but in Manchester, England? Well anywhere I suppose, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, as long at is in the USA. Still the event did have some good points, but the WWE still seem to be doing the same old lazy booking. The highlight of the show had to be the John Cena, Shawn Michaels match, after proving everyone wrong Shawn Michaels can still pull off being a heel with his religion, although I’m sure we all would have preferred John Cena turning heel but beggars can’t be choosers right? The Triple H Big Show main event was also well put together, but neither men are as good as they once were, although they did pull off a better match than anyone was expecting. The Edge, Matt Hardy feud seems to be kick-started again, and right out of the blue. To be honest neither men needed this, Edge should be right up the top of the card, while Matt Hardy should not be feuding with someone over something that he needs to move on from but the match was alright I suppose. The less said about Shane McMahon, Mark Henry bout the better I think don’t you? The WWE packed this card solid with absolutely everyone, to try and lure those people who we wavering between WWE and GWF, and the early estimates show that is just what happened. I suppose it might also have something to do with smashing gravestones, but we’ll get onto that later. Early estimates show that The Great American Bash got a buy rate around 587,000 ------------------- THE OTHER SHOW THAT WAS ON Perhaps the biggest story coming out of GWF: Breakdown isn’t the signing of Bill Goldberg, or Chris Jericho winning the GWF World Championship, but that of a potential injury to one of GWF’s key players, Charlie Haas. Apparently the medics coming out at the end of the match was not planned, as it was with the finish to the Josh Matthews CM Punk bout, but serious. Charlie Haas seems to have injured his ankle after landing on it wrong after Chris Jericho knocked him out of the ring, Charlie Haas was sent immediately to the hospital to have it looked at, more news on this as we get it. As for the rest of the show, GWF did a lot better than their first attempt. The Frankie Kazarian –vs.- Jack Evans, the Paul London & Spanky –vs.- Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter along with, surprisingly, the Josh Matthews –vs. CM Punk matches were all brilliant. We only had three major gripes about this show. Gripe number 1 is the signing of Bill Goldberg, why do GWF need him? Gripe number 2 The Jeff Hardy –vs.- Sean O’Haire match, do we really need to see this and Gripe Number 3 the build-up to the main event now we really didn’t want, need or ask for that. Other than that though this show can be considered a success, as it got a final rating of a B, along with 231,212 buys. The buys are a bit up on last month but considering they were up against the WWE, GWF: Breakdown can be considered a success. We can also exclusively reveal the name of next month’s PPV, GWF: Fight to the Death. ------------------- BILL GOLDBERG SIGNS WITH GWF After making overtures to Bill Goldberg before, GWF called off negotiations with him after he was demanding too much, the same also happened with TNA. Bill Goldberg realised that he needed to make some concessions, so he contacted GWF about making a few appearances. Word has it that the deal is very short-term, and won’t last for long. However does GWF really need Bill Goldberg? Or is it that Bill Goldberg needs GWF? ------------------- GWF ISSUES AN APLOLOGY AFTER THAT ANGLE Seconds after GWF: Breakthrough was available to download many people were disgusted at the finish of the show. In case you didn’t see it Chris Jericho smashed the gravestone of Russ Haas to bits in a way to get to Charlie Haas. While the gravestone itself was fake, as was the setting, people were still horrified that GWF could stoop to this. GWF.com issued an apology for it, and then cut the offending segment out of the show, but still saw fit to show it at GWF: Breakdown for some reason. Word has it that Charlie Haas, and his family, were all consulted about this angle before it took place, as was Chris Jericho. All parties did agree to it happening, but that doesn’t make it right. GWF stands at a crossroads, to continue on with offensive angles like this and become a watered down WWE, much like TNA and look how that’s turning out, or to move on from their mistakes. The wrestling world doesn’t need more angles like this, GWF should focus on the in ring side of thing, and not over the top storylines, because the WWE will out do them at every turn. Hopefully we have seen the end of this, and GWF will move on from another blight on professional wrestling. ------------------- KIP JAMES NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WATCK: WEEK 1 From now until Kip James drops the championship we will look at what he does with his championship reign, and if TNA was right to put the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on him, which in turn would make us wrong. So on week one of the Kip James title watch, Kip James wasn’t even one their one show that is only shown in the UK, TNA Xplosion. A video wasn’t even shown documenting the win, nor did Mike Tenay and Don West make any mention of it. So, one week into his reign with one of the once more prestigious championships in this business, Kip James title win is not even mentioned. It’s not looking too good now is it? ------------------- TERRY FUNS RETIRES (AGAIN) Yes word has reached us that Terry Funk has retired from in ring competing for about the hundredth time. We don’t know how long this latest ‘retirement’ will last, but he’s hoping that this time it’s for real. Don’t get us wrong we love Terry Funk here at the wire, its just Terry Funk it way too old for this business. At least his style, Terry Funk is one of those guys that will go out there and go all out, taking massive bumps and at his age we cringe. We don’t want to see Terry Funk die in the ring, we want this hall of famer to allow himself a proper retirement and to enjoy the rest of his life. We here at The Wrestling Wire wish to thank Terry Funk for all of the hard work he’s put into this business and for every great match that he has ever put on. Terry Funk, we salute you. ------------------- THE RATINGS REPORT Here are all of the ratings for this week’s major wrestling shows.
GWF: BREAKTHROUGH PREVIEW 06/30/07 CHRIS JERICHO APPRECIATION NIGHT This GWF: Breakthrough will see the GWF World Champion holding an appreciation ceremony for, himself. Chris Jericho has promised that tonight we will witness the greatness of our new GWF World Champion. He will open the show with an appreciation ceremony with an award issued to him for his greatness from his opponent last Sunday at GWF: Breakdown Charlie Haas. Is this really true? Also last Sunday at GWF: Breakdown Chris Kanyon had one of the worst nights of his life. Not only did he loose for the first time in GWF when he lost to Bill Goldberg in the ‘Who Betta Than Kanyon?’ Challenge, but then Ken Shamrock returned and attacked him. Revealing that Chris Kanyon was the man who attacked him at GWF: No Remorse. Tonight Chris Kanyon has demanded a rematch with Bill Goldberg, and Eric Bischoff has granted it, but with his personal referee Rick Knoxx in the hospital after being speared by Goldberg at GWF: Breakdown can Chris Kanyon beat the monster? And will we hear from Ken Shamrock? But that’s not all, there will also be another GWF: Breakdown rematch when Juventud Guerrera defends his GWF Cruiserweight Championship against Jimmy Yang. GWF: Breakthrough, CHRIS JERICHO APPRECIATION NIGHT, 07/07/07 GWF: Breakthrough 06/30/07 New Alhambra Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before the opening credits roll still photos are shown recapping GWF: Breakdown, centering on the GWF World Championship match. The photos end with the image of a bloody Chris Jericho holding up the GWF World Championship. The opening credits roll, and then the pyros go off and where now in the old ECW area in Philadeplhia. The camera’s scan the crowd, before coming to a rest upon our announcers. It’s Chris Jericho…” Rating: B Don Callis gets cut off early, as our new GWF World Champion Chris Jericho makes his way down to the ring, ready to get this appreciation night started right away. Chris Jericho has a really expensive suit on, complete with sunglasses and has the GWF World Championship belt draped over his shoulder. The ring itself is very different from how it normally is. The mat is covered in a blue carpet and theres a big picture of Chris Jericho standing right in the middle, and as Chris Jericho gets in the ring confetti reigns down from the rafters, some pyros go off as well. Chris Jericho stands on the top turnbuckle as confetti reigns down and holds the GWF World Championship belt up high. He takes off his glasses allowing us to see the bandage that is covering the wound above the right eye that he suffered at GWF: Breakdown. Chris Jericho wait for the boos to die down before beginning to speak. Chris Jericho: “Welcome to the Chris Jericho appreciation night. Now this night is all about one thing, ME! Tonight is about celebrating Chris Jericho, your new GWF World Champion. Now lets kick off this night in style, I understand that there has been a video package prepared by someone who shall remain nameless so you peons in the truck play it.” The video plays, and all the video contains is the image of Charlie Haas tapping out on a continuous loop. We go back to Chris Jericho, who wipes away an imaginary tear from his eye. Chris Jericho: “Oh that was beautiful wasn’t it. Oh I could watch that all day, the image of Charlie Haas tapping out again, and again, and again and again. It’s enough to make me cry. But lets keep this party going, there’s another video prepared by the same person so let’s take a look at it.” The next video plays and this one contains the image of Charlie Haas getting knocked out of the ring and holding his ankle on a continuous loop. When this video ends we find Chris Jericho laughing in the ring while the crowd boo. Chris Jericho: “What are you booing? Why aren’t you laughing, that’s one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Oh I get it, you’re upset because you’ve all heard about Charlie Haas’s injury haven’t you. Well don’t worry because, and this really is my favourite part, Charlie Haas is here tonight.” The crowd cheer at this. Chris Jericho: “Yes, that’s right Charlie Haas is in the building, and he’s going to present me with my award for being the best wrestler in this business. So Charlie Haas come on down.” Charlie Haas’s music plays, as the crowd get up on their feet cheering, but Charlie Haas doesn’t appear. The music cuts out after a while which leaves a confused looking Chris Jericho in the ring. Chris Jericho: “Come on Charlie, there’s nothing to be worried about. So what if you tapped out to the Walls of Jericho, so what if you disappointed your entire family who wanted my blood, that’s nothing to be ashamed of Charlie. Now come on out here.” Charlie Haas’s music plays again, but the crowd are sensing something wrong. Some cheer, but they are quickly drowned out when the cheers turn to boos as a midget dressed as Charlie Haas, complete with a huge plaque that he’s struggling to carry, makes his way out to the ring. Chris Jericho is laughing his head off at this, but he is the only one. The fake Charlie Haas gets in the ring, falling over as he does so which makes Chris Jericho laugh even harder. Chris Jericho: “Something is different about you Charlie, I just doesn’t know what.” Chris Jericho then gets to his knees in order to come face to face with the fake Charlie Haas, who doesn’t seem to like this at all. Chris Jericho: “Oh now I see it, did you get a new haircut. No that’s not it, new clothes, no that’s not it either. What oh what can it be. Lets see, um oh I know you trying out a new career. Since you’ve failed at wrestling you’ve decided to take up acting, your first role is to be an umpa lumpa…” Chris Jericho is cut off as the fake Charlie Haas smashes the plaque over the head of Chris Jericho, busting the wound over his eye open again. The crowd cheer at this, but Chris Jericho is now not finding it funny. He gets back up to his feet, and kicks the fake Charlie Haas right in the face. He then locks in the Walls of Jericho on him as the crowd boo; road agents and referees run down the ramp to drag Chris Jericho off. They finally get Chris Jericho to release the hold; he then grabs his mic again. Chris Jericho: “You little punk, do you not know who I am. I’m Chris Jericho b***h, the living legend, king of the world, never to be duplicated and your GWF World Champion.” Chris Jericho leaves the ring to resounding boos from the crowd. Rating: A We head backstage to where Josh Matthews is standing with Sean O’Haire and Mark Jindrak. Selling the injury from GWF: Breakdown Josh Matthews is wearing a neck brace. Josh Matthews: “Now I’m standing…” Sean O’Haire: “Now I’m going to stop you right there Josh, because you’re interviewing style is so predictable. You’re now going to ask me why, after giving my word that Mark Jindrak wouldn’t interfere in my match against Jeff Hardy at GWF: Breakdown, did Mark here interfere in that said match. Come on I’m right aren’t I?” Josh Matthews: “Well, yes.” Sean O’Haire: “The answer is really quite simple Josh, so simple that you and all of these idiots here can understand it. I lied. Yes lesson number 1 never trust anyone, especially when they give their word. So now that I’ve defeated Jeff Hardy, and in spectacular fashion I might add, it’s over between us. It's now time for me to move on and for my master plan to get back on track. Tonight I put my plan back in motion and when my plan comes into fruition I will stand before you GWF World Champion!” Rating: C+ -vs.- Peter Gruner –vs.- CM Punk Ref: Charles Robinson We go back to the ring for our first match of the evening, and it is also the shortest match here tonight as well. CM Punk makes quick work of Peter Gruner and forces him to tap out to the straight edge. Winner at 5.02 – CM Punk Rating: B+ We go backstage to find Eric Bischoff walking down a corridor; he comes to a halt when he Frankie Kazarian steps out in his way. Frankie Kazarian: “Eric, Mr Bischoff, I’m asking you…” Eric Bischoff: “Frankie, my answer is still no. I’m not going to grant you a shot at the GWF Cruiserweight Championship.” Frankie Kazarian: “Fine then don’t say I didn’t warn you. You want me to prove it to you, that I want a shot. Then I’ll prove it to you, just don’t say you weren’t warned.” Frankie Kazarian then walks away, leaving a rather confused looking Eric Bischoff alone. Rating: B- –vs.- Bryan Danielson –vs.- Sean O’Haire Ref: Brian Hebner Just like normal Sean O’Haire makes his way down to the ring with his ‘backup’ Mark Jindrak in tow. He comes down to some boos from the crowd but not many. Bryan Danielson then makes his entrance, to a few cheers but not many. Danielson and O’Haire lock up in the middle of the ring, but it is quickly obvious that O’Haire has the strength advantage in this match. He backs Danielson into the corner and lays some knife-edge chops onto the chest of Danielson, each getting a ‘whoo’ from the crowd. If O’Haire thought that this was going to be an easy match for him then he was sorely mistaken because Bryan Danielson wasn’t about to give up so easily. O’Haire had started to get a little c**ky, but Danielson surprised him and managed to lock on the cattle mutilation, this cause Mark Jindrak to jump up on the apron. Brian Hebner went over to him and while his back was turned Sean O’Haire tapped out. Bryan Danielson, thinking the match was over let the cattle mutilation go, but the ref hadn’t seen anything. Sean O’Haire got back to his feet while Bryan Danielson was trying to get the ref’s attention. O’Haire snuck up behind Bryan Danielson and spun him round and hit the prophecy. Mark Jindrak jumped down off of the apron as Sean O’Haire made the pin. Brian Hebner turned around and seeing the cover counted the three count and gave Sean O’Haire the undeserving win. Winner at 12.17 – Sean O’Haire Rating: B After the match though Sean O’Haire music didn’t play, instead we got the music of Jeff Hardy, who made his way onto the top of the stage. Jeff Hardy: “Sean, did I here you earlier say that it was over between us? Let me tell you something now Sean, it’s far from over…” Sean O’Haire: “Oh Jeff, you are mistaken. It is over, I beat you’re a** at GWF: Breakdown, there is nothing left for me to gain from beating you again.” Jeff Hardy: “True, but you have things to loose though, like matches. You see I have a plan of my own and it goes something like this. Either you face me in a match, or I’ll interfere in all of your matches until you face me in a match.” Sean O’Haire: “Well for a idiot that is actually quite a good plan, it’s well worked out and has clearly set out you goal, quite simply to face me in a match. However there is one slight problem young Jeffrey, that it is a quite flawed plan because it all depends on me agreeing to face you in a match. Now it seems to me that you will in fact back up your words, which will therefore harpers my plan of becoming GWF World Champion, so I’ve got a plan of my own. I will agree to face you in a match on one simple condition.” Jeff Hardy: “Fine, I accept. Let’s go.” Jeff Hardy then drops the mic and starts to make his way down to the ring. Sean O’Haire: “Yet again you make rash decisions Jeff. You see you have just agreed to face me in a match without hearing my condition first. No I agree to face you in a match, but not tonight. No, our match would take place at GWF: Fight to the Death, but again it all depends if you meet my condition. You see Jeff, the only way I’ll agree to face you in a match is if you win a match next week.” Jeff Hardy: “Who will I face?” Sean O’Haire: “If I told you that Jeff then it would spoil my fun. No you’re not going to find out whom you have to face next week, until next week. When you stand in this ring. It also can be any match that I see fit. So I agree to face you in a match at GWF: Fight to the Death only, ONLY, if you win your match next week. It certainty a risk…” Jeff Hardy: “It’s a risk I’m willing to take. So bring whatever you want Sean, I’ll beat it and then I’ll beat you at GWF: Fight to the Death.” Rating: C- We go back to Josh Matthews who’s now standing by with Chris Kanyon. Josh Matthews: “Chris Kanyon, last Sunday at GWF: Breakdown Ken Shamrock returned to GWF and revealed that it was you who attacked him at GWF: No Remorse, I guess the only question I’ve got to ask you is why?” Chris Kanyon: “Every week I’ve been here in GWF, and I’ve never once seen anyone ask you a real question, so I’m going to ask you a question. Is Ken Shamrock better than Chris Kanyon?” Josh Matthews: “Err…wait, what’s that got to do with anything…” Chris Kanyon: “It’s got everything to do with it Josh Matthews. I’m Chris Kanyon, there’s no one better in this whole company and that includes Ken Shamrock. So why did he get a spot in the GWF World Championship Tournament when I never? Ken Shamrock didn’t deserve that spot, I did, Ken Shamrock does not deserve a shot at the GWF World Championship, I do. So yes I admit it, I attacked Ken Shamrock at GWF: No Remorse to show that Ken Shamrock is not better than Chris Kanyon. But let’s get back to tonight shall we; tonight I face Bill Goldberg in the main event, my first main event in GWF. Goldberg you got lucky at GWF: Breakdown because you, just like Ken Shamrock, are defiantly not better than Chris Kanyon. And tonight, I dedicate my win to my best friend and personal referee Rick Knoxx, who is recovering from an unprovoked attack by Bill Goldberg during our match…” The interview is interrupted by Chris Jericho, Chris Kanyon leaves and Chris Jericho just stares at Josh Matthews. Rating: B Josh Matthews: “Is there anything…” Chris Jericho: “For a person who doesn’t wrestle you sure get yourself into a lot of trouble Josh. I mean not only did you get your ass handed to you by CM Punk at GWF: Breakdown, but you called me a a**hole.” Josh Matthews: “Well…” Chris Jericho: “Well what huh Josh? Now don’t blubber all over the place Josh, you calling me an a**hole is not what I’m here for. I’m here for something else. Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when you were interviewing me?” Josh Mathews: “Vaguely…” Chris Jericho: “And do you remember what happened during that interview Josh?” Josh Matthews: “Umm…” Chris Jericho: “You accused me of attacking Ken Shamrock at GWF: No Remorse didn’t you? After saying that I never you still accused me of attacking him. But now we find out that I was telling the truth and I didn’t attack Ken Shamrock it was who?” Josh Matthews: “Chris Kanyon.” Chris Jericho: “So that would make you what?” Josh Matthews: “Wrong.” Chris Jericho: “Correct, that means you’re wrong so what I want, no what I demand Josh is an apology off of you.” Josh Matthews: “Oh, right, um I’m sorry…” Josh Matthews doesn’t get any further as Chris Jericho starts to lay into Josh Matthews. He drags him over to a table nearby and powerbombs Josh Matthews right through the table. Chris Jericho: “Apology accepted.” Chris Jericho then walks away as we go back to the ring. Rating: B+ -vs.- Juventud Guerrera© -vs.- Jimmy YangGWF Cruiserweight Championship Ref: Charles Robinson In a rematch from GWF: Breakdown Jimmy Yang once again challenged Juventud Guerrera for the GWF Cruiserweight Championship. Just like their match at GWF: Breakdown this was a great match. It was a hard fought battle between the two as Jimmy Ynag had obviously learned from their previous match as when Juventud Guerrera went to connect with a swinging DDT, one of Juventud Guerrera’s favorite finishing moves, Jimmy Ynag managed to avoid it and instead connected with a spinning wheel kick to the face of the champion. Going staright for a cover Jimmy Yang almost had a three count but we will never know if we would have had a new champion as Frankie Kazarian then injected himself into the match. As Charles Robinson’s hand came down for the three, Frankie Kazarian slid into the ring and attacked Jimmy Yang. Robinson had no choice but to call for the disqualification, as Kazarian threw Yang over the top rope. Kazarian then went over to the prone Juventud Guerrera, before anything else could happen though Eric Bischoff and referees came out from the back and stoped Frankie Kazarian in his tracks. Eric Bischoff got into Kazarian’s face and started to ask him what the hell he was doing. Kazarian just smiled at Bischoff before leaving the ring and going back up the ramp. Winner by DQ – Jimmy Yang Rating: B We go back to Joey Styles and Don Callis at the announcer’s table. Joey Styles: “What is Frankie Kazarian’s problem?” Don Callis: “What are you going on about? Chris Kanyon’s first ever GWF main event, the first of many, and you don’t want to mention it. Get your priories right Joey.” Joey Styles: “Fine, let’s discuss how Chris Kanyon is going to manage without his personal referee, how will he win this match?” Don Callis: “Chris Kanyon doesn’t need Rick Knoxx…” Joey Styles: “Oh come on! The only reason that Chris Kanyon got any wins here is because Rick Knoxx had a god-damn splinter or thought the turnbuckle pad wasn’t on correctly.” Don Callis: “Rick Knoxx did have a splinter in his finger Joey, and making sure that the pads haven’t been tampered with are part of being a referee job. So you want Rick Knoxx to stop doing his job.” Joey Styles: “I just find it very convenient that he always finds something wrong when Chris Kanyon is about to loose…” Don Callis: “Oh stop complaining Joey, here he comes, Chris Kanyon is here, yes everyone get up and cheer.” To emphasise his point Don Callis gets to his feet and starts to cheer like a mad man. Joey Styles: “Sit down and stop embarrassing yourself.” Rating: B –vs.- Bill Goldberg –vs.- Chris Kanyon Ref: Brian Hebner Chris Kanyon makes his way down to the ring with Don Callis still cheering like a mad man, while Joey Styles tries to calm him down. Chris Kanyon sees all of this and goes over to the announcer’s table and shakes Don Callis’s hand, telling him to keep up his good work. The crowd are booing Chris Kanyon like mad, but he acts like they’re cheering him, the boos do turn to cheers though as the sound of drums echoes round the arena. The stage fills with smoke and then Bill Goldberg steps through it to massive cheers from the crowd. He walks down to the ramp and gets into the ring and comes face to face with Chris Kanyon, who doesn’t back down on inch. Unlike last night though Chris Kanyon doesn’t strike the first blow, Bill Goldberg does. Bill Goldberg lays some right and left punches to Chris Kanyon before delivering a powerslam, sending Chris Kanyon to the mat. From this point on Chris Kanyon doesn’t really get a look in, as Bill Goldberg completely dominates this match. After body slamming Chris Kanyon halfway across the ring Bill Goldberg stalks Chris Kanyon like he was pray. Dazed and confused Chris Kanyon gets to his feet and turns around and is met by a brutal spear from Bill Goldberg. At this point we see Ken Shamrock laughing at this on a monitor backstage. Back in the ring Bill Goldberg has Chris Kanyon back to his feet and nails him with the jackhammer. From there the pin is academic as Bill Goldberg picks up the win. Winner at 11.29 – Bill Goldberg Rating: A We once again go back to Ken Shamrock backstage who is now clapping his hands, obviously happy with the damage inflicted on Chris Kanyon by Bill Goldberg. Back in the ring Bill Goldberg is celebrating his win, and he makes his way up the ramp slapping the fans hands as he goes. When he reaches the top of the ramp he turns round and raises his hands to the crowd, who cheer. Bill Goldberg though is then attacked from behind by Chris Jericho, he smashes a steel chair over the head of Bill Goldberg, sending him down. Not done, Chris Jericho repeatedly smashes the chair over Bill Goldberg’s head as he’s down. The crowd boo as Chris Jericho raises the chair up in one hand and in the other hand he raises the GWF World Championship. He then shouts down at Bill Goldberg. Chris Jericho: “Bill Goldberg, YOU’RE NEXT!” Rating: A* GWF: Breakthrough fades to black with Chris Jericho standing over the fallen Bill Goldberg. Monthly Update July 2007 With our second month behind us things were looking a bit better. GWF: Breakthrough’s numbers were saying consistent, and all our storylines seem to be progressing well. Just like last month though there were some grumbling from some people backstage about the fact that they felt they weren’t being used properly, the Daniel Puder thing doesn’t really help matters though, but we need to be seen on having a tough stance on things like this. Eric and myself have had a few disagreements this month though, especially over the Chris Jericho and Charlie Haas angle, as well as the brining in of Bill Goldberg but we have reached a compromise. We are a bit worried about Charlie Haas after that fall to the outside that happened during his match, he’s went staright to the hospital to have his ankle looked at, we really need him to be OK. It would mean a lot of work to rearrange the next few months of storylines as they all centre on Charlie Haas, Still on the whole people seemed to be impressed with GWF: Breakdown, we chatted to some people after the show and they all seemed happy. I was knocked out of my thoughts with the sound of the phone ringing. ”You see what happens when you take me on Matt? I’ve just had he numbers from your little spectacle and we wiped you’re a**. We know that your PPV carrier is not happy and now you only have one PPV left, this is just strike one though Matt, I’m not going to stop until I put you and Eric out of business.” “Actually you’re wrong Vince, we’ve just been on the phone with our PPV carrier, and because we’ve increased our buys from last month even going up against you we’ve got one more month to prove to them that we can make money. So your little stunt didn’t work Vince, next time try harder. But Vince I know how much you like our little monthly chats, but I have got a company to run.” With that I slammed the phone down, Eric Bischoff is a great salesman. He managed to convince his contact at the PPV carrier to give us one more month, but that just leaves us with two months to significantly increase our numbers. I’ve started looking into other PPV carriers as a backup if and when our contract is cancelled. Eric Bischoff then enters my office, with some papers in his hand. ”I’ve got some bad news I’m afraid, it’s not looking good for Charlie Haas, we’ll get the results in a few days but don’t hold your breath.” ”Where is he now?” ”I’ve sent him home until the results come through, we’re going to have to speed up our plans though” “What else can go wrong though, Trent Acid acting like a jacka**, Daniel Puder getting arrested, the whole backlash of the gravestone smashing and now our major storyline for the summer looks like it’s got to be scratched. How did you cope with WCW?” ”Did you think this was going to be easy Matt? Did you think this was like playing some computer game? This is real life, but this doesn’t compare with anything I went through with WCW, this is actually quite relaxing. Anyway here’s the figures of our expenditure this month.
Expenditures Worker Costs – 256,606.00 Show Costs – 89,000.00 Production Costs – 179,000.00 Marketing Costs – 25,000.00 Merchandise Costs – 68,459.00 Misc. The Wrestling Wire 07/07/07 Yet another week, yet another edition of ‘The Wrestling Wire.’ Which major player has been approached by a rival? What major player is out till September? And week two of the Kip James NWA World Heavyweight Championship watch. ------------------------ CHARLIE HAAS INJURED We all saw Charlie Haas clutching his ankle after being thrown out of the ring at GWF: Breakdown, and he wasn’t used on GWF: Breakthrough last week as he was undergoing testing at a medical facility. It now turns out that Charlie Haas’s has torn a ligament in his ankle that will mean that the earliest that he will be able to re-enter the ring will be September. This is obviously a major blow for GWF, as by all indications, the rivalry between Charlie Haas and Chris Jericho was supposed to go on for a few more months. This has caused all of GWF’s major plans to change, that’s why the Chris Jericho, Bill Goldberg confrontations has started much earlier than planned. We here at ‘The Wrestling Wire,’ wish Charlie Haas a speedy recovery. ------------------------ WWE TRIES TO SIGN CHRIS JERICHO According to our sources the WWE has been in contact with the GWF World Champion Chris Jericho to try and lure him back to their company. However, fortunately for GWF, Chris Jericho has rejected their contract offer. Obviously preferring the lighter schedule of GWF, it allows him to carry on with his band and with acting, then the full time WWE were offering. With the news of Charlie Haas out for a few months, the loss of the GWF World Champion to the WWE would have surely killed any momentum that GWF has gained, maybe even killed the company all together. ------------------------ NEW X DIVISION CHAMPION Not content with destroying the lineage of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, TNA have now looked to the X-Division Championship to destroy, as on their latest Xplosion show Jeff Jarrett defeated AJ Styles to become the X-Division Champion. Why this decision has been made we here at the wire don’t know, as Jarrett doesn’t fit in with the mould of the other X-Division wrestlers. Word has it that this title switch wasn’t made with the knowledge of Dixie Carter and that she has got very angry with Jarrett doing this without her approval. The two haven’t been getting on very well backstage apparently and this is just another example of Jeff Jarrett using his power backstage to get what he wants. The TNA locker room aren’t that happy about this either, as he is rubbing everyone the way as he tries to get the NWA World Heavyweight Championship back, but the booking team are overriding him on this point. One source says that Jeff wants gold, so he took it upon himself to get some and he doesn’t care what happens next. ------------------------ PERRY SATURN RELEASED Earlier this week it was announced on GWF.com that they have released Perry Saturn from his contract. He has been used very sparingly since the company began, his most notable was loosing to Chris Jericho in the first round of the GWF World Championship Tournament. Word has it that it wasn’t anything that Perry Saturn had done, it was just that creative had nothing for him to do. ------------------------ TED DIBIASE EXTENDS HIS DEAL WITH THE WWE The WWE have been able to extend their deal with the legend Ted Dibiase. ‘The Million Dollar Man’ has been a road agent for the company for the past 12 months, and has now rumoured to have signed a deal that will keep him with the same role for the next two years. ------------------------ KIP JAMES NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WATCK: WEEK 2 Week 2 of the Kip James NWA World Heavyweight Championship title watch and the title win has still not been mention on their one show, TNA Xplosion. TNA.com have now, finally, acknowledged the win and have put it up on their website, but not in a very visible place. Will anything happen in week three of the Kip James title win, we here are the wire aren’t holding our breaths. ------------------------ THIS WEEK’S RATINGS Here are the TV ratings, and download numbers, for all of the major shows this week. The big news from this week though is that GWF: Breakthrough has had their biggest attendance for GWF: Breakthrough to date. Normally the show is produced in arenas with a maximum attendance of 1,000 but now they have doubled that attendance this week. This is defiantly a good sign for a promotion that is still trying to get a foothold in this business. ------------------------ GWF: BREAKTHROUGH PREVIEW Here’ the preview of this week’s GWF: Breakthrough
GWF: Breakthrough Preview 07/07/07 A RISK TO FAR? Last week on GWF: Breakthrough Jeff Hardy challenged Sean O’Haire to a match, a challenge that O’Haire refused. However he did have a challenge of his own, he would agree to face Jeff Hardy at GWF: Fight to the Death if Jeff Hardy could beat an opponent of his choosing tonight at GWF: Breakthrough. Jeff Hardy agreed to this, knowing that it would be the only way to get his hands on Sean O’Haire, but Jeff Hardy won’t know who his opponent is until the match starts. Has Jeff Hardy risk taking gone too far? Or will the young risk taker’s gamble pay off? After his match last week Bill Goldberg was attacked by the GWF World Champion Chris Jericho, who left him down and out at the top of the ramp after some viscous steel chair shots. Will the GWF World Champion explain his actions this week, and will Bill Goldberg be after revenge? Also last week Frankie Kazarian gave Eric Bischoff one last chance to grant him a GWF Cruiserweight Championship title shot, but when Eric Bischoff rejected Frankie Kazarian’s offer, Kazarian left with a confusing message to the GWF president. Kazarian told Bischoff “don’t say you weren’t warned.” We never found out what this meant until the GWF Cruiserweight Championship match later that night, when Frankie Kazarian ran down to the ring to interfere in the match to cause the disqualification. This week Jimmy Yang gets another shot at the GWF Cruiserweight Championship, will ‘The Future’ make his presence felt again? Confirmed Matches: Juventud Guerrera© –vs.- Jimmy Yang for the GWF Cruiserweight Championship Lance Storm –vs.- Marcus Bagwell GWF: Breakthrough is only available to download from GWF.com, so book your seat by the computer.
Credit: GWF.com ------------------------ We wrap up this week’s update with a look at the legendary Ric Flair. GWF: Breakthrough, A RISK TOO FAR?, 07/07/07 GWF: Breakthrough 07/07/07 New Alhambra Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before the opening credits we get a video recapping the attack last week on Bill Goldberg by Chris Jericho. When the video ends the opening credits roll and then the pyro goes off. We go to the announcer’s table. Announcers: Joey Styles & Don Callis Joey Styles: “Hello and welcome to GWF: Breakthrough I’m Joey Styles.” Don Callis: “And I’m Don Callis.” Joey Styles: “Tonight Jeff Hardy will have to face a person of Sean O’Haire’s choosing here tonight if he wants any hope of facing Sean O’Haire at GWF: Fight To The Death. Also tonight we will find out just why Chris Jericho attacked Bill Goldberg last week.” Don Callis: “But I know the real reason why most of you have downloaded this week’s show. To see Chris Kanyon…” Joey Styles: “That has got to be some sort of record. What, two minutes in and it’s only now mentioning Chris Kanyon?” Don Callis: “Well if you didn’t talk so much Joey I could have talked about him much earlier, like ten seconds in.” Rating: C- Chris Jericho’s music plays in the arena as the GWF World Champion makes his way down to the ring. Once again he’s wearing a suit with a pair of sunglasses on his face. The crowd boo him as he gets in the ring, taking off of his sunglasses he waits for the crowd to quieten down until he begins to speak. Chris Jericho: “All week, all damn week, all I’ve had is the same question. Why did I attack Bill Goldberg? The real question that should’ve been asked though is why didn’t I attack Bill Goldberg sooner? Lets go back to two weeks ago at GWF: Breakdown, when I won the GWF World Championship. Were people talking about me? NO! Everyone was concentrating on a bald bad actor. Then last week on my night, on MY night, Chris Jericho appreciation night, were you people talking about me? NO! You were all focused on a no talent hick. So I made you people talk about me. I attacked Bill Goldberg to make you idiots take notice. I’m the living legend, the king of the world, Charlie Haas ankle breaker, never to be duplicated GWF World Champion Chris Jericho. But you ungrateful idiots would all rather talk about Bill Goldberg instead of talking about me. But let me fill all of you in on a little known fact, Bill Goldberg is all hype, and I’m sick and tired of all of you ignoring that. Why do you people not see it? You have the best wrestler on the planet standing right in front of you and you boo him? Yet you take a look at Bill Goldberg and chant his name over and over and over…” The crowd now do chant ‘Goldberg, Goldberg, Goldberg…' Chris Jericho: “Bill Goldberg you son of a b***h, what the hell do you think your doing in GWF? GWF is mine, MINE!! This is my company, you can’t come in here and steal my thunder, steal my crowd. You people here, you peons, you inbred scum should be chanting Jericho, Jericho, Jericho. I tore a ligament in Charlie Haas’s ankle, what have you done Bill Goldberg? I’m GWF World Champion, where’s your championship Bill Goldberg? The people should love me Bill Goldberg, not you. You can’t walk in here and take my company away from me take my crowd. GWF isn’t big enough for the both of us…” The crowd suddenly comes alive as Bill Goldberg sneaks in the ring behind Chris Jericho. Jericho senses something is wrong and turns around and is met with a spear by Goldberg. Bill Goldberg spears the GWF World Champion. Before any more damage can be done though referees and road agents spill out of the back to drag Bill Goldberg away, as the crowd boo as they wanted to see Chris Jericho getting beaten up some more. Bill Goldberg is led to the back Chris Jericho recovers in the ring. We too head backstage. I say why don’t you prove it. Be a man and face me face to face, and not from behind. However this was not the debut that Marc Mero must have been hoping for, as he has set a new GWF record. Loosing to CM Punk in just two minutes, Mero gets locked in the straight edge almost instantly and with can find no way out of the move. Marc Mero taps out to give CM Punk the submission victory. There’s no one better than Chris Kanyon, but you want to step up and try to beat me? Fine I accept you challenge. Bill Goldberg is obviously happy with the attack on Chris Jericho earlier, but doesn’t see Chris Jericho running up behind him, but he feels it. He feels it as Chris Jericho smashes a steel chair over the head of Bill Goldberg. Bill Goldberg falls to the floor, but before Chris Jericho can repeat the actions of last week, when he repeatedly smashed the chair over the head of Goldberg. Referees and road agents, conveniently, run in and drag Chris Jericho away down the corridor. When they finally drag Chris Jericho, who is kicking and screaming, around a corner Bill Goldberg gets slowly back to his feet. He shakes to cobwebs out of his head and runs in the direction that they took Chris Jericho. Looking to get some revenge for the latest attack. Tonight’s match though ended in exactly the same way that last week’s match did. This time though Juventud Guerrera looked to have won the match. Juventud Guerrera had just laid Jimmy Yang out with a dropkick and was climbing up to the top rope, and he signalled for the 450 splash. This was the point that Frankie Kazarian injected himself into the match, as he ran down the ramp and threw Juventud Guerrera off of the top rope to the floor. Brian Hebner had no choice but to call for the DQ. Kazarian then made his way back up the ramp, laughing as he did. He doesn’t have to wait long as Sean O’Haire, along with Mark Jindrak comes and stands at the top of the ramp. Jeff Hardy senses that he has to do something quick, as he climbs up to the top rope, and delivers a swanton bomb from the top rope to the outside onto Mark Jindrak, essensially taking him out of the equation. But while all of this had happened Sean O’Haire had gotten a steel chair, and when Jeff Hardy got back up to his feet Sean O’Haire smashed the chair over the head of Jeff. Any pretence of this being an actual wrestling match has already been shattered, as it is now turning into a public mugging. Brian Hebner keeps trying to stop Sean O’Haire in his attack, but he just shoves him away every time. Sean O’Haire picks up the near lifeless body of Jeff Hardy into the ring post three times. He then rolls Jeff Hardy into the ring. Sean O’Haire is just toying with Jeff Hardy now, and is taking his time in doing so. Jeff Hardy doesn’t know where he is and starts to pull himself up, using Sean O;Haire as leverage. Sean O’Haire waits for him to et back to his feet, and then nails him with the prophecy. Sean O’Haire still doesn’t want to pin him though, as by now Mark Jindrak has gotten back up, and he’s got the steel chair in hand and motions to O’Haire that he wants to hit Hardy with the chair. O’Haire scoops him up from the mat and holds him for Mark Jindrak, but this is where it all goes wrong. Jindrak swings the cahir, but Hardy ducks and the chair connects with the skull of O’Haire. Jindrak doesn’t have time to think about what he’s done though, he turns around and goes to swing the chair again, but Jeff Hardy in an act of desperation delivers a drop kick to the steel chair and sends it into the face of Mark Jindrak. Jindrak falls down to the mat, as does Jeff Hardy. He crawls over to Mark Jindrak and drapes one arm over Jindrak’s body. Brian Hebner goes down and makes the three count, Jeff Hardy has done it. Jeff Hardy will go onto face Sean O’Haire at GWF: Fight To The Death, and there’s nothing that Sean O’Haire can do about it. Winner at 14.25 – Jeff Hardy Rating: C+ We go backstage where we find Bill Goldberg about to leave the arena, he’s just putting his bags into his car trunk when a car comes speeding round the corner. The car directly aims for Bill Goldberg, but Bill Goldberg jumps out of the way at the last second. The car comes skidding to a halt as Chris Jericho gets out of the car and runs at Bill Goldberg. Goldberg runs at Chris Jericho too, and the two brawl in the parking lot. Bill Goldberg tries to put Chris Jericho’s head through a car windscreen, but Chris Jericho manages to block this. At this point referees, road agents, jobbers and security force come in and try to pull the two apart. It’s not easy though, as each man is trying to continue the fight. Eventually Eric Bischoff once again appears. Eric Bischoff: “Enough of this bulls**t. I’m sick of it, you two want to fight then fine. It’s Bill Goldberg –vs.- Chris Jericho at GWF: Fight To The Death for the GWF World Championship. And Chris Jericho you’re right, GWF isn’t big enough for the both of you. The match is going to be a looser leaves town match, whoever looses the match is gone from GWF forever." At this point Chris Jericho stops lunging at Bill Goldberg, and just stares at Eric Bischoff, as does Bill Goldberg. Chris Jericho: “What???” Bill Goldberg: “Chris Jericho, YOU’RE NEXT. At GWF: Fight To The Death I’m going to take the GWF World Championship and send you out of GWF.” Chris Jericho: “Eric listen…” Eric Bischoff just smiles and walks away. Rating: A GWF: Breakthrough fades to black with Chris Jericho calling for Eric Bischoff to come back as Bill Goldberg laughs, as the security force drags the two men in opposite directions. The Wrestling Wire 07/14/07 It’s a PPV laden update this week as, count them, three PPV’s were held this past Sunday. How did the WWE fare with their second biggest card of the year? What was RoH thinking going up against the WWE for their first PPV? and did TNA finally acknowledge Kip James and their NWA World Heavyweight Champion? It’s all here on ‘The Wrestling Wire.’ ------------------------ WWE SUMMERSLAM Lets start with the big one from this past Sunday, WWE Summerslam, their other Wrestlemania. Lets start of with the bad, and boy is this a lot. The continuation of the Shane McMahon Mark Henry feud for one, was that one match just not good enough? The Matt Hardy, Edge match, Amy Dumas is not even with the company any more so can we all move on? The main event even left a sour taste in our mouths, Triple H, The Undertaker match. Sure it was good, but haven’t we already seen that match before? And the ending was just terrible, we understand that they wanted to keep both men strong, but having Vladimir Koslov run in and attack The Undertaker was just wrong on so many levels. It was a good job that the crowd s**t on it, but this wasn’t our major issue with this PPV. It was Shawn Michaels that had us nearly breaking the TV. Shawn Michaels, after turning on John Cena and giving us the awesomeness that we haven’t seen since the Hulk Hogan feud, Shawn Michaels turns back to face after shaking John Cena’s hand after their match, the exact same finish that he had with Hulk Hogan. Now we know that due to Shawn Michael’s religion he can’t be a heel as he once was blah blah blah. But come on! Anyway, early estimate show that the show pulled in around 595,458 buys. ------------------------ TNA VICTORY ROAD Finally TNA acknowledge the fact that Kip James is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, by shoving him in a match halfway up the card against Simon Diamond? This is just another stupid move, but again this is from TNA so how can we complain. However the big event of this show was the handling of Jeff Jarrett, with him completely destroyed by the wrestlers of the X-Division. Dixie Carter was on sight for this show, so Jeff had no choice about it, but he was complaining to anyone that would hear. Our sources say that the other wrestlers in TNA were happy to see what happened, for punishment for getting the championship in the way did. Others are saying that Jeff Jarrett may be leaving the promotion because of this as well, but with the way he’s been backstage many would be glad to see him go. Nothing really else to say about this show really, just really under whelming as they didn’t want to put anything too big on because of the WWE show on the same night. The show got around 232,140 buys, but this is just an early estimate. ------------------------ ROH UPRISING It was a stupid idea putting your first PPV up against the big two in the USA. Word has it that Cary Silkin was being vary optimistic with scheduling the show last Sunday, with the amount of fan base he thought the buy rate would be much higher than it was. The show looks to have pulled around 185,456 buys, but again this is just an early estimate. The card that they put on was, as expected, solid from top to bottom, showing how they have risen so quickly, but it looks to have been a huge mistake for the company to have a PPV so soon. Only time will tell, but don’t get your hopes up for seeing any more PPV’s soon from the company. It already appears that the PPV provider that RoH had signed their deal with has already pulled the plug. This is awaiting confirmation though. ------------------------ GWF’S LAST CHANCE Tomorrow night it GWF: Fight To The Death, and GWF’s future on PPV hangs in the balance. It’s their final chance to impress their PPV provider, with the announced card it certainty a possibility that they could pull in extra viewers, especially since their going unopposed that night. Our sources say that Matt Prince and Eric Bischoff are quietly confident with their chances. With the main event of Bill Goldberg going against Chris Jericho in a looser leaves town match, there may be a chance that the name recognition of Bill Goldberg may push their buys up. ------------------------ MARC MERO SIGNS WITH GWF We all saw Marc Mero wrestle on the last GWF: Breakthrough and were surprised to see him with the company to say the least. Especially considering the two-minute loss that he took at the hands of CM Punk. Apparently this is leading somewhere, and it will be quite a big angle for the company for the next few months, but what exactly that is we don’t know. However with the bringing in of older talent such as Diamond Dallas Page, Bill Goldberg and now Marc Mero may be cause for concern. For a company that said it is going to be building new stars, they certainatley depending on the older talent more than they really should be. ------------------------ KIP JAMES NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WATCK: WEEK 3 Yes week 3 into the Kip James NWA World Heavyweight Championship reign and the title win is finally mentioned by TNA. It wasn’t a very impressive way of doing so either, sure he got the win over his first challenger, but Simon Diamond? This match was overshadowed by the Jeff Jarrett fiasco, but so far into reign, we here at ‘The Wire’ are being proved right. Kip James as NWA World Heavyweight Champion is wrong, on so many different levels. ------------------------ RATINGS WWE RAW Final Rating: B Attendance: 7,412 Viewers: 1,524,875 TNA XPLOSION (ONLY IN UK) Final Rating: C- Attendance: 4,098 Viewers: 147,252 GWF: BREAKTHROUGH Final Rating: B- Attendance: 2,000 Downloads: 370,726 GWF: Breakthrough’s download numbers have soared to new high for the company on the back of a number of strong shows for the company. The big question is, can they hold onto their audience? ------------------------ GWF: BREAKTHROUGH PREVIEW Here’s the preview for tonight’s GWF: Breakthrough.
GWF: BREAKTHROUGH PREVIEW 07/14/07 IS CHRIS JERICHO NEXT? Last week on GWF: Breakthrough Chris Jericho declared that GWF wasn’t big enough for Bill Goldberg and himself to be in it. Eric Bischoff seemed to agree, and booked a match at GWF: Fight To The Death, Bill Goldberg –vs.- Chris Jericho for the GWF World Championship, but whoever looses the match will leave GWF forever. This is going to be the last GWF: Breakthrough for one of these men, but the question is who? Tonight these two will get a chance to fight each other as in the main event there is a tag match. Bill Goldberg will team up with Ken Shamrock to take on their opponents for GWF: Fight To The Death in Chris Jericho and Chris Kanyon. Also last week Jeff Hardy secured a match against Sean O’Haire at GWF: Fight To The Death when he beat Sean O’Haire and Mark Jindrak in a handicap match. We known that Sean O’Haire is irate at loosing the match, and has vowed that he will not face Jeff Hardy at GWF: Fight To The Death, saying he has nothing else to prove. But we also know that the young risk taker Jeff Hardy will do anything to make sure that their match at GWF: Fight To The Death will go ahead. Who will get their way? Since the beginning of GWF Josh Matthews has tried to get an interview with CM Punk, the two men even had a match at GWF: Breakdown over it, but Josh Matthews has never been successful in his attempt in gaining in an interview. However we have just learned that CM Punk has had a drastic change of heart, and will grant Josh Matthews an interview tonight at GWF: Breakthrough. What does he have to say? And why has he changed his mind? This makes him perhaps the most popular and famous wrestler that has never worked for the WWE. With memorable feuds against Ric Flair, Jeff Jarrett, Vader and Terry Funk he has a guaranteed spot in the hall of fame, perhaps not the WWE’s though. Sting is another legend of this business. Even though he was handled badly at several points in the past he has remained popular with the fans throughout. He is the kind of wrestler that can only ever be a face, he can never be a convincing heel, which is his biggest flaw. Sting though is a great wrestler, and the history of this business will show him to be so. The Wrestling Wire Rating: A

I'm absolutely loving the Kanyon push. Although, it took a bit of a bump with the Goldberg loss, but still entertaining nonetheless. And how about that debut for Marc Mero? WTF? And more to the point, why in the world was he even signed? His best assets are running around with Brock Lesnar these days! ;) Kip James as NWA champ? :o That's almost the equivalent of having David Arquette as champ. Kudos to you for the Callis/Styles exchanges. It brings back very good memories. I don't know about anyone else, but definitely keep pushing Sean O'Haire. I think WWE releasing him IRL was one of their (out of an abundance of them) bigger mistakes. He could've been huge there and looks like he's going to be huge for you.

With their tag team partners banned from ringside, it guaranteed an even contest. Just like at GWF: Breakdown Paul London outwrestled the less experienced Johnny Jeter, but with no tag partner there was no one to help him out. The finish to the match came when Paul London went up to the top to deliver a crossbody. But when he connected with the move, Johnny Jeter rolled through the move and went for the pin, but with a handful of tights. Charles Robinson doesn’t see this though and counts the three, giving Johnny Jeter the win. As soon as the count was finished Johnny Jeter quickly gets out of the ring, and goes straight up the ramp celebrating the win. Josh Matthews: “Ken, tonight marks your first match since GWF: No Remorse, as you’re teaming up with Bill Goldberg to face the GWF World Champion and the man who attacked you at GWF: No Remorse, Chris Kanyon.” Ken Shamrock: “That’s right Josh, and I first want to congratulate Chris Kanyon for being a man, he accepted my challenge like a man, and hasn’t resorted to attacking me from behind so it looks like he might be growing a backbone. But onto tonight, you’re right tonight is the first time I will wrestle since GWF: No Remorse, but see I think it was a bad decision because if I get my hands on Chris Kanyon’s ankle, I may just brake his ankle tonight instead of at GWF: Fight To The Death.” Ken Shamrock then leaves the shot, as his match is coming up soon. Rating: C Josh Matthews: “It’s back to you at ringside…” Josh Matthews is then interrupted as CM Punk grabs the mic off of him. CM Punk: “Oh no it’s not Josh. Have you forgotten, that you’ve got what you been asking for since GWF started, an interview with CM Punk. So go ahead, ask me a question.” Josh Matthews: “OK then um, why have you agreed to this interview in the first place?” CM Punk: “Because you stopped asking for it that’s why. It’s only after you stop wanting something that you deserve it.” Josh Matthews: “Erm, what?” CM Punk: “You’re just like the rest of them aren’t you?” Josh Matthews: “Just like who?” CM Punk: “Like those people out there who treat this like some sort of hobby. I’ve seen them, happiness to them does not lay in their own accomplishments, but they take their pleasure in other people’s pain, other people’s blood. They take happiness in harming their own body, taking drugs and drinking alcohol. They call that happiness? I call it weakness and escape from real life. Me I’m different, alcohol has never touched my lips, my blood is pure and not infested with narcotics. I’ve seen what those things can do to people, I’ve witnessed it, I’ve seen it with my own eyes. I have sworn never to go down that path, the path to failure. That’s why you’re just the same as everyone else in this building right now, because you fail to realise that the true way to happiness is not in drugs or alcohol, but in respect and discipline in your life. One day you too will see Josh that my way of life is much better than the pitiful existence of what you call life. I’m straight edge Josh, that just mean’s that I’m better than you.” CM Punk then shoves the microphone into Josh Matthews’s chest as he walks off. Rating: C- We re-join Joey Styles and Don Callis at the announcer’s table. Joey Styles: “It’s now time for our main event…” Don Callis: “What now, surely we’ve got something else?” Joey Styles: “No, it’s now time for our main event, don’t worry Don. I’m sure Chris Kanyon won’t be beat.” Don Callis: “Yeah you’re right…” Joey Styles: “Well not too badly beat at least.” Rating: B- –vs.- Bill Goldberg & Ken Shamrock –vs.- Chris Jericho & Chris Kanyon Ref: Brian Hebner As Don Callis starts to shout at Joey Styles, Ken Shamrock makes his way down to the ring to a good pop from the crowd. This pop turns into a huge cheer as Bill Goldberg makes his way down to the ring. Goldberg gets into the ring and shakes hands with his tag team partner, again to a good pop from the crowd. Chris Kanyon’s music then kicks in and the crowd start to boo. He looks really worried, a point to which Joey Styles speaks about only for Don Callis to shout at him once again. Chris Kanyon waits on the outside of the ring, waiting for Chris Jericho. He doesn’t have to wait long as the GWF World Champion then makes his entrance, to massive amounts of heel heat from the crowd. Unlike Ken Shamrock and Bill Goldberg, Chris Kanyon and Chris Jericho don’t really acknowledge each other. They only really speak to each other when deciding to start the match, Chris Kanyon was decided to kick off his match for his team, and Goldberg was the man to start it out for his team. Chris Kanyon really doesn’t want to fight, and tries to keep away from Bill Goldberg. This tactic doesn’t last for long though as Bill Goldberg quickly corners Kanyon and uses his strength advantage to, well, his advantage. Just like at GWF: Breakdown Bill Goldberg begins to toy with Chris Kanyon, much to the delight of Ken Shamrock who cheers Bill Goldberg into inflicting even more pain. Chris Kanyon had just been whipped into the corner by Bill Goldberg, who in an unwise judgement went charging in at Chris Kanyon, who moved causing Bill Goldberg to connect with the turnbuckles himself. Chris Kanyon quickly dives for his own corner and he tries to make the tag. However Chris Jericho has no interest into getting into the match and jumps off of the apron and starts to walk back up the ramp. As Chris Kanyon looks on in bewilderment, he doesn’t realise that Bill Goldberg has recovered, and turns round and is met by a spear by Bill Goldberg. As he lifts Chris Kanyon up, setting him up for the jackhammer, he locks eyes with Chris Jericho who is now standing on the top of the stage. Bill Goldberg then mouths ‘You’re Next’ to Chris Jericho before drilling Chris Kanyon with the jackhammer. From the pin was academic and Bill Goldberg and Chris Kanyon get the win. Winners at 11.35 – Bill Goldberg & Ken Shamrock Rating: B GWF: Breakthrough fades to black, as Bill Goldberg stands triumphant in the ring as Chris Jericho stands at the top of the stage.
