Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Florence Civic Center. Florence, South Carolina Wednesday Week 3 March 1983 Attendance: 5,000 Overall Rating: B+ Rating: 81,252 Recap As per usual, the show began with a recap of the main event from last Monday's Nitro show which saw a tag match featuring Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine and Wahoo McDaniel erupt into a 4-way brawl to end the show. =B+ Revenge Coming! Before heading to the arena, the cameras showed up in a hospital bed where Mr. Wonderful was laying with his neck in a brace. He thanked the fans for their concern about his health and stated that no matter if he got doctor's clearance to wrestle or not that he WOULD be there at World War 3 and he would get his revenge against Harley Race, Wonderful style. =A Match 1
The Assassin vs. Angelo Mosca Jr. The Assassin opened things up within the arena as he took on the young Angelo Mosca Jr. This was pretty much a squash for the Assassin as he took it to the second generation superstar. Conspicuous by his absence was Paul Jones, who was not at ringside with the Assassin. But, still, the masked man picked up the win with a sharp headbutt. The Assassin b. Angelo Mosca Jr. =C
After the match, the cameras went backstage to show Assassin #2 watching the match on the monitor. He merely shook his head and walked off moments later. =D Match Signed For Nitro? The cameras focused in on the announcers where they spoke about tonight's matchup between Greg Valentine and Wahoo McDaniel. But they also stated that on Nitro, the other two men who would be in the U.S. Title Fourway: Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper would also have a match! =A Match 2
Non-Title The Koloffs vs. The Midnight Rockers This matchup held the United States Tag Team Champions against the NWA World Tag Team Champions and it went about as much as anyone could expect. The Rockers did their best to stay away from their opponents early but once the Russians caught them it was dominance by Nikita and Ivan Koloff on both Midnight Rockers. The Koloffs seemed to be taking out some pent-up anger on the Rockers, including knocking Marty Jannetty off the apron with a Russian Sickle! At that point, Hulk Hogan walked down to ringside and looked up, pointing a finger at Nikita Koloff and distracting him! Shawn, while down in the ring, slowly got up the energy to raise to his feet. He rolled up Nikita and Ivan didn't get there in time to stop the 3-count! The Midnight Rockers pulled off the upset victory with Hogan smiling and walking off! The Midnight Rockers b. The Koloffs =C+
Preparing for War A video played next, showing a rather lavish mansion off within the background and then focused on a man sitting on a leather couch. That man? The Nature Boy Ric Flair. Flair looked into the camera and told the world that he is used to living in the lap of luxury. He drinks the finest wines, eats the best foods and sleeps with the best women. He is a limousine riding, jet-flying, kiss-stealing, wheeling, dealing son of a gun! And at World War 3, he's prepared to do what he sets out to do: win the NWA World Heavyweight Title BACK from Larry Zbyszko. As for J.J. Dillon and his offer? Flair says he'll think about it and he'll give J.J. his answer right to his face at World War 3. =A+ Match 3
Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter Hogan stepped out to his usual chorus of cheers, looking pretty good and like he is feeling pretty good about himself after he cost the Koloffs their match against the Rockers earlier in the night. Sgt. Slaughter came out though to ruin that good mood of his. This was a definite brawl between two men skilled in holding the crowd in the palms of their hands. Slaughter took the advantage early and held on tight through it, despite the cheers and chants for Hogan. Late in the bout, Slaughter issued a salute of dismissal, preparing Hogan for the Camel Clutch. He went to land one last punch but Hogan shook his head! It was time for the almighty Hulk-Up as the Hulkamaniacs got behind the Hulkster. He pointed at Slaughter and then waved his finger back and forth, finally blocking a punch and turning the tide on the Sarge. At this point, all 3 of the Russians came running down to the ring and slid inside. Hogan met Khrusher with a right hand, flooring him. He dropped Ivan. He dropped Nikita. He dropped Slaughter again with a big boot! He cupped his hand to the crowd and then bounced off the ropes, coming back with his famous legdrop! He made the cover and got only a 2 count when Ivan met him on the back with a double sledgehammer, causing the DQ. Hulk Hogan b. Sgt. Slaughter =B
After the match, the Russians took turns stomping away on Hogan while the crowd tried to rally him. Hogan was busted open from a shot from the chain! Ivan motioned the other two to lift Hogan up and then he was dropped by a Russian Sickle with the chain! The crowd booed as the Russians stood victorious on this night. =B- Tonight Is In The Bag Speaking of boos? They didn't stop when Greg Valentine was shown in the back along with Gene Okerland. The Hammer was wearing his shirt that reads 'I Broke Wahoo's Leg' tonight and told Gene that tonight was merely a warm-up for the match at World War 3. But maybe tonight he can relive that moment where he broke Wahoo's leg and better the odds at World War 3. Valentine smiled as he spoke of that idea, seeming to really be thinking about it. =B Match 4
Main Event! Non-Title Greg Valentine vs. Wahoo McDaniel And it was main event time as the United States Heavyweight Champion Greg The Hammer Valentine took on the Native American Wahoo McDaniel. This was a power match to start off with both men exchanging punches and getting the better of each other at a back and forth pace. Valentine, when he held the advantage, went after the leg of Wahoo that he had broken before while Wahoo, when he had the advantage, worked over the strong back of the U.S. Champion. Surprisingly enough, neither Roddy Piper or Ricky Steamboat showed up for this match with Bob Caudle speculating that both were taking this time to scout their opponents while Heenan merely called them cowards who wouldn't show up for a real fight. Valentine was the one able to pull this bout out as he picked up the win using the tights after Wahoo's knee buckled out from under him on a body slam attempt. Greg Valentine b. This is awesome...I just finally read and caught up with whats going on... I'm not a fan of Zbyszko, but you really worked that storyline well and the rivalry brewing between Zbyszko/Race and future Horseman could be off the charts I have such a hard time imaging Hogan in Mid Atlantic but bringing him in to feud with the Russians is the best way... As far as predictions: Steamboat over Piper (because Steamboat is my all-time favorite) Midnight Rockers over Youngbloods (Rockers are very green at this point, but Youngbloods could elevate them) Hogan over Ivan Nice slow build to the obvious feud of Hogan/Nikita which should sell some tickets Race beats magnum TA (Magnum seems like he could get lost in the shuffle here as you have SO MUCH talent to work with Assassin #2 over Mosca Blade Runners over Young Stallions: Blade Runners have a long way to go at this point Keep this up, because this stuff is gold

I definitely have some plans going toward my next PPV. It should be a great one with several matches already signed, including the 60 Minute Ironman Match between Ric Flair and Larry Zbyszko for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, The Koloffs defending their NWA World Tag Team Titles, The United States Heavyweight Title on the line in a 4-way and more. And don't worry, I do have some plans for Magnum. I won't state what though. LOL.

MACW Monday Nitro Dickens Athletic Center. Chicago, Illinois Monday Week 4 March 1983 Attendance: 2,000 Overall Rating: B- Rating: 57,333 Recap Last Saturday night, Greg Valentine fought Wahoo McDaniel! It was a hard-hitting, hard-fought battle between the two wrestlers and the United States Heavyweight Champion pulled out the win. =C+ Match 1
Debut Match! The Blade Runners vs. The Young Stallions Two teams made their debut this evening as the face-painted Blade Runners came to the ring to take on two talented young men: Paul Roma and Jim Powers. This was a fairly even match, albeit a short one. Sting of the Blade Runners picked up the win over Roma with what he calls the Stinger Splash. The Blade Runners b. The Young Stallions =F
Getting Ready Backstage, Ricky Steamboat was pacing back and forth as he seemed to be getting prepared for his match later on tonight against Roddy Piper. He looked into the camera and explained that tonight would be his first step toward getting the United States Title at World War 3. He has a lot of respect for what Roddy Piper has done in the sport but at the same time Piper is just a stepping stone right now. =C+ Match 2
Assassin #2 vs. Angelo Mosca Jr. The Assassin fought Mosca last week on Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and tonight it is Assassin #2's turn. #2 dominated the match and finished off Mosca Jr. in a shorter time than his former partner did with that strong headbutt. Assassin #2 b. Angelo Mosca Jr. =E
Watching! Just like his ex-partner did last week, The Assassin was watching the monitor as his opponent at World War 3 got the pin. The Assassin shook his head, turned and walked off. =C- Match 3
Rematch From Last Week! Harley Race vs. Magnum T.A. The King came out first, telling the camera on his way out that as of next week he will be walking onto Nitro as the NEW Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion. Bobby Heenan agreed while Bob Caudle stated that Paul Orndorff did say he would be putting up a fight against Race. Magnum T.A. sprinted to the ring for his entrance and immediately exchanged rights and lefts with Race as he tried to get an early advantage in this rematch from last week when Race picked up the pin via the Piledriver. Magnum carried on an early advantage later in the match as Race seemed ill prepared for facing this opponent. Harley though was sly as ever and when he took the advantage, he snuck in a pair of brass knuckles on his fist and punched Magnum! Race hid the knucks and made the cover, getting a three count! Harley Race b. Magnum T.A. =C+
After the match, J.J. Dillon stepped out from the back and motioned on his Enforcer! Arn rolled inside the ring looking face-to-face with Harley Race but then turned his attention on the fallen Magnum T.A.! Anderson stomped on T.A., focusing his attack on Magnum's leg!! Magnum was left holding his leg as Arn and J.J. looked down at him in the ring, smiling. J.J. stated on the microphone that the beatdown is what people can expect for those that mess with his men. =C Traveling To LarryLand After the ring was cleared, the crowd rose on their feet cheering as the music of Ric Flair played throughout the arena. The Nature Boy stepped out to cheers from the crowd, walking down toward the ring and climbing inside. He picked up the microphone and turned his attention to Larry Zbyszko, stating that he plans on taking a free ride to LarryLand and surviving! At World War 3, Larry Zbyszko is going to have to walk that aisle against a nicely rested Nature Boy and this time it will be Slick Ric taking the belt to Whooo Space Mountain with allll the ladies. =A Hogan Entrance The crowd rose to their feet as 'Real American' played over the P.A. system, cheering on the entrance of the Immortal One as he walked down to the ring and slid inside. He looked around, cupping his ear to the crowd before ripping apart his Hulkamania t-shirt. =B+ Match 4
Hulkamania vs. The Russian Bear Hulk Hogan vs. Ivan Koloff While Hogan stood in the ring, the crowd booed as the Russian Bear walked out flanked as always by nephew Nikita and partner Khrusher Kruschev. Hogan looked at the odds and remained within his corner until the bell sounded. The match started off at a slow pace like everyone would expect with these two power athletes. They began a feeling-out process that included more headlocks and armbars than anything. During the match, Hogan got knocked outside the ring and Ivan distracted the official as the other two Russians stomped on the prone body and tossed Hogan back inside. Ivan picked up Hogan and locked in the Bear Hug, twisting and squeezing Hogan's back as Hulk cried out in pain! The fans began to chant and cheer for Hogan, trying to rally him back into the match and slowly it seemed to be working! Hogan boxed the ears of the Russian three times and broke the hold! Hogan fell down to a knee where the Russian Bear tried to regain the advantage with a punch but that only began the Hulk-Up! Ivan's eyes went wide as Hogan began to shake and just shrug off the punches thrown before finally pointing a finger into the face of the Russian Bear! He waved it and then blocked an Ivan Koloff punch and began leveling Koloff with rights, backing him into the ropes. He whipped Koloff across the ring and connected with a Big Boot to the face! Hogan turned and began cupping his ear to the crowd, getting them involved. He turned and bounced off the...no, he was tripped up by Khrusher Kruschev in plain view of the referee! It was an immediate DQ called on Ivan. Hulk Hogan b. Ivan Koloff =B+
After the match, the Russians slid in the ring and began another dismantling of Hulk Hogan! Even the fans' cheers couldn't bring Hogan back into it. Khrusher leveled Hogan with a chained right hand, stating that he would see him at World War 3! =C+ Matches For World War 3 Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan couldn't believe what they just saw. But another match that will be unbelievable will be at World War 3 as Larry Zbyszko puts the NWA World Heavyweight Title on the line in a 60 minute ironman match against the Nature Boy Ric Flair. A graphic was shown, also, to hype the match. =A Yeah, Bobby Heenan, said but we'll also be seeing Harley Race getting a fair shot at the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title as he takes on crippled wonderful Paul Orndorff. =B In a match just recently signed, Khrusher Kruschev WILL be taking on Hulk Hogan in a flag match at World War 3. The match will be the first on the card with the winner having his respective flag hanging above the entrance the entire card. Of course that would be the U.S. flag or the Russian flag. =C+ Match 5
Winners Get An NWA World Tag Team Title Shot At World War 3 United States Tag Team Titles On The Line The Midnight Rockers(c) vs. The Youngbloods Speaking of World War 3, the winners of this match will go there to take on the other two members of the Russians: Ivan and Nikita Koloff for the NWA World Tag Team Titles. The match started off with a handshake between the competitors and it was definitely more of an up-tempo, flying style to get things underway. The Youngbloods, however, soon realized that it would be in their favor to use more technical skills against the Midnight Rockers and they began to slow the match down, trying to wear down the young Champions. Jay and Mark used frequent tags and showed the fact that they are brothers definitely lends to knowing each other better and they used continued double-teams on Marty Jannetty. The crowd didn't know who to cheer for in this match as all 4 men are crowd favorites. Jannetty finally started getting some crowd support and he was able to somersault over and make the hot tag to Shawn Michaels! Michaels landed a couple of dropkicks, knocking over both members of the Youngbloods. Jannetty got back up slowly and they whipped Jay into the ropes, ducking a double clothesline attempt. On the rebound, Jay was met with a double dropkick, sending him to the outside. The Midnight Rockers set up and fell Mark with a double superkick, Shawn pouncing on top for the three count and the Midnight Rockers' successful defense of their United States Tag Team Titles. The Midnight Rockers b. The Youngbloods. =C+
After the match, the Koloffs came running out and attacked the Midnight Rockers with their chains! Shawn was tossed over the top rope, being choked out by Ivan while Nikita wrapped his chain around his fist and bloodied the forehead of Jannetty! Finally officials came running out and broke up the scene but the Koloffs did not look too thrilled with the team that beat them this past Saturday. =C Match Is Set Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan spoke about the fact that the NWA World Tag Team Title match is set for World War 3 as the Midnight Rockers will challenge the Koloffs for those belts to see if they can hold both Tag Team Titles. Heenan added in that the match would take place if the Midnight Rockers have the guts to show up and take another beating like they did here tonight. =C+ I'm Ready! Roddy Piper paced backstage as he was dressed in his usual kilt attire. He looked into the camera and said that he's ready for a fight tonight against Steamboat. He doesn't really care if Steamboat respects him or any of that because that gets thrown out the window during a fight. He also said that if Bobby Heenan calls him a coward one more time he's gonna show the guy why Roddy Piper is a legend and Bobby Heenan is just some fly-by-night newcomer. =B Match 6
Main Event! Ricky Steamboat vs. Roddy Piper Bob Caudle told fans to sit tight because this one is going to be a classic in the making between two men who the fans enjoy and who can really wrestle. Bobby Heenan said he has no idea where Roddy Piper got that he called Piper a coward. Piper's not a coward. Piper's a girl. He's wearing a skirt, right? So he must be a girl. Unlike the last match, there was no handshake before the match as these two fine wrestlers stared each other down in opposite corners. No, there's some animosity and bad blood between these two guys. And the match definitely didn't disappoint as the Hot Rod gained the early advantage and focused on the neck area of Steamboat with several knee shots and chokes. Piper was definitely the dirtier man of the two while Steamboat gained back the advantage and worked over the back of Piper with backbreakers and forearm shots to the back. The match lasted nearly 15 minutes of action with both men getting an equal share of the offensive. Unlike their last match, though, this one ended up with Piper locking on a Sleeperhold and putting Steamboat to sleep. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell with Piper standing victorious. Roddy Piper b. Ricky Steamboat =B
You've gotta take a stand It won't help to hide." Hulk Hogan opens the show stepping out from the back to major cheers, waving the American flag! Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan welcome all the fans at home to the Dean Smith Center as Hogan enters the ring, cupping his ear to the crowd several times. His opponent, Khrusher Kruschev, is already inside the ring with the Russian flag hanging in his corner as well as the Koloffs. Hogan sets Old Glory in the corner and the bell sounds to start this match off. Just as one might expect, this match started off rather slow with Hogan backing Khruschev into the corner and Kruschev slapping the Hulkster! Hogan came back with a headlock and was shot off against the ropes, meeting Khrusher in the center of the ring with a double shoulderblock. Neither man went down. Hogan tried again and ducked a clothesline, coming back with a clothesline of his own, sending Khrusher rolling outside the ring to regroup. Hogan stood inside the ring and cupped his ear to the crowd, getting them into it. He also ripped off his shirt at this point to major cheers from the crowd. Khrusher got back in the ring and Hogan dropped him with a bodyslam and then a backbreaker! Hogan maintained the momentum through several more moves before Nikita tried to trip him outside the ring! Hogan stood tall but turned his back on his opponent and paid for it with a forearm to the back. Khrusher rammed Hogan into the turnbuckle and went on the attack, whipping Hogan across the ring and splashing him with a clothesline in the corner. He got a 2 count on a pinfall before raking the eyes of Hogan and choking him, much to the chagrin and boos from the crowd. Khruschev locked Hogan into an abdominal stretch and used help from the outside with the Koloffs to really put the pressure on but Hogan wouldn't give up! Khrusher really worked the pressure in but finally released the hold and lifted Hogan into a bearhug! Hogan was hurting bad! The Koloffs looked like they were celebrating with their flag, preparing to have it lifted above the entrance. The referee raised Hogan's hand once. It fell. He raised Hogan's hand twice. It fell. The crowd chanted Hogan's name. "Hogan, Hogan, Hogan!" The referee raised Hogan's hand a third time... it... STAYED UP!!!!!! Hogan seemed to feed off the crowd as he shook, grabbing Khrusher's head and laying in a punch! A second one! A third one broke the hold and sent Hogan down to his knees. Khrusher tried to jump back on Hogan with a punch but Hogan shook his head, staring wide-eyed up at Khrusher Kruschev! Khrusher couldn't believe it! He punched Hogan again and Hogan rose up to his feet, shaking his fists in the air and moving about the ring. The Koloffs were shocked outside the ring, motioning Khrusher to keep on the attack! Khrusher punched Hogan again and Hogan stopped, staring at Kruschev! He pointed at Khrusher and then waved his finger back and forth. He blocked another punch, firing a shot on Kruschev! A second punch. A third punch! He lifted Kruschev up and bodyslammed him to the mat. He bounced off the ropes and clotheslined Kruschev down! He picked up his opponent and whipped him to the ropes...BIG BOOT by Hogan! Hogan cups his ear to all 4 corners before bouncing off the ropes: BIG LEGDROP! He makes the cover on Kruschev, the referee in position. 1...2...3! Hogan wins it! USA triumphs! Hulk Hogan b. He points as the officials begin raising Old Glory above the entranceway! The crowd cheers their approval as Hogan flexes inside the ring before pointing to the American Flag and saluting, holding his hand over his heart. What a victory that was for Hulk Hogan! =B Match 2
Mask vs. Mask The Assassin vs. Assassin #2 Paul Jones did not escort either superstar to the ring. Instead, he made his own entrance and stood in a neutral corner. Heenan called this move smart because now he can choose to be in the side of the winner no matter who it is. The two masked superstars met in the center of the ring and locked up. The Assassin took advantage with a poke into the eyehold of #2 to begin a match of underhanded tactics. The crowd didn't seem to care about the match as there wasn't really a clear-cut heel or face in this one. During the match, each man went after the other's mask to try and remove it early but each time it backfired, giving the opposite man the opportunity to take back the advantage. In the end, it was feet on the ropes by the Assassin that got him the pinfall and the ability to keep his mask on. The Assassin b. Heenan said they lost a loser in Kruschev and agreed that the Koloffs were better off without him. The United States Tag Team Champions came running out toward the ring in their usual entrance, getting the fans fired up behind them. As soon as the Midnight Rockers entered the ring they were pounced upon by the Koloffs. Ivan set Shawn in one corner while Jannetty was pummeled in another by Nikita. Ivan and Nikita whipped the Rockers toward each other but the Rockers did a do-si-do and landed perfect dropkicks on the Russians...that did nothing to move them! The Koloffs just sneered at the Midnight Rockers and dropped them with spinebusters! Watching this match, it was hard to believe that the Rockers scored the upset a week ago over Nikita and Ivan. Nikita tossed Jannetty to the outside and went out after him, ramming his head several times into the steel barricade. Inside the ring, Ivan dropped Shawn Michaels with a STIFF Russian Sickle! Heenan couldn't help but agree. The combatants made their entrances as follows: Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Wahoo McDaniel and the Champion's entrance of Greg The Hammer Valentine. Valentine was still sporting his 'I Broke Wahoo's Leg' t-shirt. A coin flip had been made to determine the two men who would start and it was Steamboat and Piper. These two men definitely don't like each other and that showed by the jaw-jacking as they met in the center of the ring. Piper landed the first punch but Steamboat fought back and the two men began slugging it out in the middle of the ring. Piper is the more experienced brawler so he started getting the advantage and floored Steamboat with a right hand. Steamboat popped back up and ran toward Piper with the Hot Rod landing a picture-perfect armdrag! Steamboat looked impressed as he got to his feet and was tagged from behind by Wahoo McDaniel. Piper and Wahoo were the only two wrestlers not to meet during that round robin of matches between all 4 men. They moved to meet in the center of the ring and Piper threw a punch. Wahoo responded with a chop. Punch and chop, punch and chop. Back and forth went the action until Wahoo started getting the upper hand with those thunderous chops of his! Piper's chest was red as he was pushed back into the corner. Wahoo whipped him across the ring into Greg Valentine's corner and Valentine began choking Piper! Wahoo rushed across and nailed both Valentine AND Piper with a splash in the corner, sending the Hammer down off the apron and Piper down to the mat. Wahoo began doing his rain dance early in the match! Piper slowly rose to his feet and was taken down with a chop. A second chop when Piper got up again. Ricky Steamboat made a blind tag on Piper as Wahoo continued his war dance. Piper was taken down with another chop as Steamboat began climbing to the top turnbuckle! Wahoo's war dance brought him back around...right into a Steamboat flying body press off the top! Wahoo was taken by surprise and Steamboat hooked the leg. 1...2...3! Wahoo McDaniel is eliminated early by Ricky Steamboat! Wahoo McDaniel is furious! He cannot believe he lost the match but the referee forces him to head toward the back. Steamboat gets back up and turns...right into a Piper clothesline! Valentine is back on the apron watching the match. Bobby Heenan comments that the Hammer is doing the smart thing and letting his opponents eliminate each other. The Hot Rod is on the attack with body slams and power moves, keeping Steamboat from getting his bearings. Piper chokes the Dragon on the mat, breaking at a 4-count and getting a mouthful from the referee! Piper lifts up and moves to a corner where he is tagged by Valentine! The Hammer quickly climbs in the ring and goes to work on the knee of Ricky Steamboat. He locks in several variations of a kneebar and gives several stomps on the knee of the Dragon. The crowd tries to rally behind the challenger and Steamboat does mount a comeback on Valentine, felling his opponent with hip tosses and armdrags and other sound technical moves. But Steamboat is also limping on that injured leg. The Dragon goes outside and begins to climb the turnbuckle. He reaches the top and tries to stand but slips! He falls to the mat, holding that injured leg! Valentine is up and moves over quickly, locking Steamboat in the figure 4 leglock! He cinches the move in hard, using the ropes for leverage. After several minutes of fighting, Steamboat has no choice but to submit. Ricky Steamboat is eliminated by Greg Valentine! Before Valentine could break the hold, Piper comes in the ring and stomps on the fallen U.S. Champ! It's come down to Greg Valentine and Roddy Piper remaining for the U.S. Title! Piper picks Valentine up and whips him across the ring, lowering his head and sending Valentine over with a back body drop! He makes the cover and only gets a 2 count as Valentine gets a shoulder up! Piper shakes his head and begins stomping on the neck of Valentine, grabbing the ropes and using them for leverage as he pushes down on the head and neck of the Hammer, breaking at a 4 count and more admonishment from the referee. Piper reaches down and grabs the Hammer, sending him to the opposite side off the ropes but Valentine stops and climbs outside the ring! He's waving at Piper, saying he's had enough! But Piper realizes he can't win the title by countout so he goes outside the ring and cuts off Valentine at the pass! Valentine begs off as Piper comes near. Piper grabs the Hammer and looks around at the crowd, ****ing a fist. He pounds it into the head of Greg Valentine! Another punch! And another! Valentine is rocked! Piper winds up a punch and.... POWDER, POWDER, POWDER!!!! Valentine tosses powder in the eyes of Piper! The referee realizing this is a Championship match does NOT call for the immediate DQ! Valentine sees that and takes advantage of the blinded Piper, sending him head first into the steel ringpost. Valentine reaches into his tights again, bringing a dazed Piper over to the steel guardrail. It's hard to tell what's going on through the smoke but Valentine rolls back inside the ring as the referee counts. Valentine stands there looking proud. OH.... MY.... WORD! Piper is HANDCUFFED to the guardrail! He can't go anywhere! He's struggling to get towards the ring but he can't move the guardrail close enough! The referee is still counting. Piper is LIVID! He is the genuine article and a living legend. Tonight he cements that status. =A+
NWA World Heavyweight Title On The Line 60 Minute Ironman Match Larry Zbyszko(c) vs. Ric Flair The crowd cheered loudly when the music of the Nature Boy began to play throughout the Dean Smith Center here in Flair Country: Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Flair revelled in the cheers as he walked down toward the ring. Bobby Heenan noted that Flair had not given J.J. Dillon any word on whether or not he was accepting the offer. Bob Caudle said that no word SHOULD give J.J. his answer. Flair rolled inside the ring and waited in the far corner as the music for the NWA World Heavyweight Champion began to play. The Living Legend came out without Harley Race at his side and stepped inside the ring, handing the title belt over. This would be a good one but a long match. The ring introductions began and the match was just about underway. When the bell sounded, the two men met in the center of the ring doing a little talking to one another. Each man knew that this match would last a very long time, 60 minutes to be exact. They moved to lock up for the first time but Flair ducked out of the way and began strutting across the ring, releasing a 'Whooooo' that was echoed by the fans in attendance. Flair definitely likes playing mind games but so does the Living Legend. The two superstars moved together again and again Flair avoided the tieup. Larry went after him this time and Flair stuck his head out between the ropes, motioning for the referee to keep Larry back, which he did. Larry was seemingly getting frustrated with Flair's actions and the two men went to tieup again and this time it was successful. Larry raised Flair's arms in a top wristlock as Flair cried out 'NO!' fighting against the hold. Flair backed up some and stuck out his leg, hooking the bottom rope with it and forcing a break of the hold. As the referee forced the break, Larry caught Flair with a thumb to the eyes. Zbyszko took advantage and started to work on Flair, focusing his attack on the neck and back of Flair. Bob Caudle made sure to mention about Flair's airplane accident giving him a bad back while Zbyszko went to work. The crowd was solidly behind Flair in this match as Zbyszko maintained a strong advantage. Zbyszko went so far as to taunt the crowd while he choked Flair against the ropes, illiciting boos from this partial crowd. Bob Caudle made mention of the fact that if Zbyszko knocks Flair out with his sleeperhold that it would give him a serious advantage in this ironman match. Zbyszko did manage to get his sleeperhold on Flair once but Flair used the crowd's support behind him to regain his strength and dropped the Living Legend with a jawbreaker. Flair started to mount his comeback, focusing on the knee of Zbyszko. Flair went for a figure 4 leglock early but Zbyszko had him well-scouted and scored an inside cradle on Flair for the first fall in the match! Larry Zbyszko leads 1 fall to 0 Flair was stunned when he got back up. But even more dazed after a Zbyszko clothesline sent him down to the mat. Larry slowed down the pace, using a lot of restholds since there was still a lot more time left in this match. He caught Flair in a reverse chinlock and held it there for at least 5 minutes before breaking the hold to focus on something else. Zbyszko started to get somewhat frustrated during this time because Flair would refuse to be pinned or made to submit. The crowd continued their support of the hometown favorite and it paid off when Flair started making his comeback. Flair reddened Zbyszko's chest with chop after chop, knocking down the Champion. Flair started getting more aggressive and it showed by the way he was willing to rake the face of Zbyszko. Flair tied up the score when he rolled up Zbyszko and used the tights to score the pinfall. The score is even 1-1 Zbyszko tried complaining to the official but his knee was chopblocked by Flair from behind right into the referee! Zbyszko and the referee were down and out walked James J. Dillon and his Enforcer Arn Anderson! Flair turned and saw them and seemed to be shouting that he didn't want anything to do with them! Flair backed up right into a raised Zbyszko, who grabbed his arms!! Arn circled the ring and grabbed a chair, being led by Dillon into the ring. Larry shouted at them to hit Flair. Arn raised the chair and brought it down but Flair got free and Arn cracked the chair over Zbyszko's head! The Living Legend was busted open and down on the mat. Flair and Anderson looked at each other and then both began to stomp on Zbyszko! Was this a set-up??? Arn rolled out of the ring with the chair and Flair made a cover as J.J. revived the official. The referee crawled over and made a 1-2-3 count! Ric Flair leads 2-1 The crowd started booing Flair! How could he turn on them and join up with J.J. Dillon and his Enforcer??? Flair began raking at the bloody face of Zbyszko, opening the wound even more. This is positively sick! The NWA World Heavyweight Title should NOT change hands like this! Flair continued his attack on Zbyszko as the time began winding down. With J.J. distracting the referee Flair scored on a low-blow on Zbyszko and then made another cover, gaining one more fall on the Living Legend. Ric Flair leads 3-1 Flair did get a bit of comeuppance when Zbyszko started to fight back in the waning moments of the match. The referee finally calls for the bell! Roddy Piper has been counted out! Greg Valentine b. Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat and Wahoo McDaniel =A
Get Hyped Ric Flair is shown standing in the back in a blue sequined Nature Boy robe, bouncing on his toes. He talked about how he's been drinking coffee to get ready for this match. In just a few minutes, Larry Zbyszko is going to get the beating of a lifetime when he walks that aisle against the Nature Boy. Tonight, it's not going to be about the limousine riding or the jet-flying or even the kiss-stealing. THAT is for the victory party after the show when the Nature Boy walks out victorious. =A+ Two Living Legends. One Victor And the camera faded over to Larry Zbyszko in his locker room with the NWA World Heavyweight Title. He spoke about how when he won this title nobody thought he could beat Ric Flair. And now tonight the same is true. Tonight he's going to prove that his victory before was no fluke.
But when Zbyszko locked on his sleeperhold, the seconds were ticking away and before Flair could submit, the bell sounded! Ric Flair b. Larry Zbyszko =A+
Celebration J.J. circled around the ring and grabbed the NWA World Heavyweight Title while Arn beat down Zbyszko, dropping him with a spinebuster. J.J. handed the NWA World Title to Flair as the ring was littered with garbage. Flair's hand was raised by J.J. and Arn to close the show. =A+
