Third Dynasty Attempt (Saves getting Corrupted :( )

Well, I am going to try my luck with the Colorado State Rams again. We have gotten a BAD team to start out with, but if my game doesn't crash--I will transform them into a good team, and we will eventually win the NCAA playoff championship!
Bowl Bound - 2006 Colorado State Rams Roster

I'm going to sim through the first season--our team isn't that good, so I want to recruit some to get my own feel on the team before I start playing the games out. This year--we aim for 5th in conference to please the board. Colorado State 41-31 over Buffalo to start the year. If we only beat them by 10--this could be a long year. We may be a 45 prestige team--but we are a terrible one and 4 wins would be good for our roster. Schedule Buffalo 41-31 WIN E. Michigan 14-15 LOSS San Diego State 34-31 WIN Wyoming 18-13 WIN We win the first of our two big rivalry games :) Utah 15-37 LOSS New Mexico 17-20 LOSS UTEP 13-16 LOSS UNLV 16-27 LOSS TCU 14-24 LOSS (The awful stretch of the year. BYU 31-24 WIN Air Force 17-6 WIN #15 Colorado 17-31 LOSS In all 5-6 (4-4) Not a bad year for a low-talent squad.

a C- grade is given to me for the season (which was quick-simmed so I am not too offended). Now on to recruiting--we have MAJOR needs. I started out by replacing all the asst. coaches--no more money, but I am underpaying them now, so there is a bit of improvement, the budget didn't really leave me room to get the people I wanted though. Transfers: (We didn't lose anyone) ILB William Simmons (60/72) RB John Simmons (59/87)!!! DE William Lambert (57/72) CB Gerard Hicks (55/78) OT Jeremy Lind (54/77) Wow! What a class of transfers--they are now 5 of the best 7 players on the team. I will be simming through this season as well so that these when I play the games out, they will be on my team. West Coast offense for us this year, and 4-3 defense. We are projected to finish 6th in conference this year, which is worse than last year's 5th. However, we are hopeful for the future since our team is very young, and we have lots of great transfer players who will start next year. I will quicksim this disaster of a season. A shockingly good year for the Rams. We lose a bowl game to Oregon State 18-3. We are still happy with the year, and I will now begin coaching all games and lead my Rams to the next level.

Somehow, we are forecast to win the conference, but this is ridiculous. We are hoping for a winning record in conference. Here is the depth chart:
Bowl Bound - 2008 Colorado State Rams Roster
Offense At QB: Yost is a nice senior and Brown, a JUCO pickup is a capable and mobile backup. Juarez could also play this year, and has a better arm than Brown. RB: John Simmons, our all-star, sat out last year after transferring, and is going to be a monster, with his 85 running ability and good hands/route running. He is a threat for a 1000/1000 season. Bryan Perkins is a decent backup. FB William Robinson is nothing special, though Young, a freshman, will also get playing time. Receivers: Kurt Quiroz runs excellent routes and is one starter. Matthew Mcdonald was a nice juco pickup and good receiver. We have a bunch of adequate backups at WR but no speed threats. We will need to recruit a speedster for next year. At TE, Charles Cervantes and Charles Martinez will be a nice duo (Luther Campbell is a transfer and will start next year.) As we are a smashmouth team, these TE's should get lots of opportunities. OL: 3 solid starters and 2 question marks for a young OL. Defense DL: William Lambert is a nice pass rusher. Jeffrey Green (DT) is an excellent run killer with lots of upside. The Defensive line has the most potential of any position on the team and will be capable but nothing special this year. This unit will be our best in two or three years! Linebackers: ILB William Simmons (61/77) is the heart of our defense. Ron Milligan and Alex Lugo are pretty good OLB's. Another pretty good position for the D. Secondary: CB Gerard Hicks (62/77) is excellent. The rest of the secondary is bad to worse. This position will be burned early and often. Special Teams: Our punter is the best rated player on the team (66) and our kicker who we recruited is the best on the team (49/70) and Charlie Hall should develop into a fine kicker in the future.

Somehow, we are forecast to win the conference, but this is ridiculous. We are hoping for a winning record in conference. Here is the depth chart:
Bowl Bound - 2008 Colorado State Rams Roster

Eastern Michigan (1-1) @ Colorado State (0-0) E. Michigan is only a 9 point dog in our opening game of the season, in week 3. Due to scheduling difficulties, we are only playing 11 games this year. We luckily get to start off the year with the #108 team in the nation. 1st Quarter Yost to TE2 Jack Hughes for a 13 yard TD pass. (missed pat). John Simmons then goes 32 yards for a TD run on our next drive. 13-0 Rams early. 2nd Quarter Simmons then catches a 4 yard TD pass. 20-0 Rams as we are rollings. 3rd Quarter There is not much to say. This game is a beautiful blowout. A 65 yard TD pass to FB William Robinson makes it 27-0. I didn't know fullbacks ran that fast. This miss a field goal at the end of the 3rd quarter, so our shutout continures. 4th Quarter 30-0 after we add a field goal. 30-0 Rams is the final score. 299 yards passing for Yost and 3 Touchdowns. Simmons had 139 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. I would also like to give a shoutout to my real-life Colorado State Rams, who defeated the Archrival Colorado Buffaloes 14-10 at Invesco Field in Denver today. This was our first victory over them in 4+ years, and we held their offense to only 9 first downs! Way to go Rams.

Colorado State (1-0) @ TCU (3-0) We are 6 point road favorites. Our talent is slightly better than theirs but I think we will have a tough fight in their house. They have no players rated better than (60), but they have few holes either—their talent is consistently average. Should be an interesting challenge for this young Rams team. 1st Quarter A tough first quarter. We have 12 total yards through the first ten minutes of the game, and in the meantime, they hit a FG to make it 3-0 Horned Frogs. Suddenly, TE Charles Cervantes, our top tight end, goes nuts and runs a short pass 64 yards to get into the red zone! 3-3 after a FG off that drive. 2nd Quarter 6-3 Rams after they give up poor field position after a punt and we drive decently. Now 6-6 with 2:30 left in the half after they drive again. This is a pretty slow game so far. We go down the field though, and Yost finds Quiroz for a 15 yard TD pass with 9 seconds left in the half. 13-6 Rams at the half. We have outgained them 248 to 147 now. Yost has thrown for almost 200 yards and Simmons has 48 yards on only 8 carries. We will try to get him more involved in the 2nd half. 3rd Quarter A 20 yard QB scramble puts them in field goal range and they narrow our lead to 13-9. They can keep getting field goals though, I am happy if our defense keeps holding them to field goals. 4th Quarter Big 34 yard gain for TCU to end the 3rd and they are in scoring range. 9 yard TD pass for the Frogs and they lead 16-13 with 13 minutes left in the game. Yost is hurt, so Matthew Brown is on at QB. He has a much lesser arm (though not too bad 40's rated in most areas) but he is more mobile. Brown completes a 9 yard pass on 4th-2 at their 34 and we are in solid scoring range now. Simmons runs nicely to a 1st and goal. He is over 100 yards rushing again this game. 3rd-G from the 6 coming up. The pass is incomplete and we take the chip shot field goal to tie the game with 7 minutes left. 46 yard completion for them against our weak D secondary and they are in scoring range. They take a field goal. 19-16 Frogs with 3:24 left. QB John Juarez (less mobile, but much better arm (51 overall) rated) will come on for us at QB for what could be our last chance. The Juarez expiriment fails. 3 incompletions then a drop and we lose. Simmons had 122 yards and Yost had 202 before going out but we couldn't put together the pieces into a victory. A sad loss to start the conference season.

Utah (3-0) @ Colorado State (1-1) Las Vegas still loves us, as we are only 1 point dogs against a slightly more talented Utah team. This time we are at home though, so I think we will pull this one out. Their OL is their strongest asset, including a 71 rated OT, so we need to shut the run down to win the game. 1st Quarter Yost is questionable for 5-7 weeks, but he is going to start. Yost hits Wendall Woodward (WR) with a 41 yard pass, but we settle for a FG. 3-0 Rams. Yost's arm seems to be alright though. Mark Bush, an ILB for the Rams, returns a fumble 61 yards for a TD. 10-0 Rams. The quarter ends after a Utah interception deep in their own zone, and then an injury to Yost that knocks him out for 6-8 weeks. Somebody please remind me that when a QB is hurt, I shouldn't play them. 2nd Quarter Matthew Brown, the new QB, uses his running ability, and speed (76) to take a 3rd and long and turn it into a 21 yard TD scramble. 17-0 Rams. They finally respond, getting a 48 yard FG. 17-3 Rams. With no Yost, and a nice start for Simmons 9 carries 38 yards, we will use him more, as with a nice lead, we want to start running clock. There is no reason why a good Utah offense should get too many possessions. OLB Ron Milligan then runs a Utah pass back 43 yards for a TD and we lead 24-3. We are rolling over conference power Utah. A pissed off Utah team heads down the field, but we limit them to an FG. 24-6 with 2 minutes left in the half. Brown is then intercepted. 36 yard TD pass follows and it is 24-13 at the half. The inexperience of our QB is seen here, and we need to be careful about giving Brown a chance to blow the game. Don't be surprised if Juarez gets a chance in the 2nd half. 3rd Quarter After a bad punt, we start the drive at their 41. Matthew Brown then goes 33 yards on a QB scramble. He is as good on the ground as he has been in the air. (1/6 14 yards 0 TD 1 INT) so far. John Simmons gets the TD on a 4 yard driving run. 31-13 Rams and I am feeling better again. 31-16 as they add a field goal with 6 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter. 8 completions for both of our QB's combined so far on 14 tries. We have relied on Simmons and the defense for points so far. Brown (3 carries 57 yards 1 TD) has been better as a running back than as a QB so far. 34-16 Rams now as we return with a field goal of our own to counter theirs. We have actually been outgained 320-299 so far at the end of 3 quarters, but they can have that lead as we lead by 18 and are threatening again. 4th Quarter 37-16 Rams now after another field goal. A 4th Ute turnover now. These turnovers have been the difference in the game. A big amount of praise is due to our defense for its opportunistic play today. Brown goes 39 yards on an option keeper before he is run down! His speed is amazing. Matthew Brown then keeps the next option run and this time goes 2 yards into the end zone. 8 carries 96 yards and 2 touchdowns for him so far. 44-16 Rams. Only (6/11) 94 yards and an INT for Brown passing so far. 44-23 Rams is the final after they add a meaningless touchdown late. No CSU quarterback threw for 100 yards, and they only combined for 147 total. However, Simmons ran for over 120 yards, and Brown added 94 yards. The defense picked up 4 turnovers and 2 defensive touchdowns and this was enough for us to easily roll over the high-powered Utes. Simmons has been amazing so far, and the mobile side of Brown's game is electrifying—his two touchdowns were spectacular.

Colorado State (2-1) @ Air Force (2-2) They are not very good and we are 9 point favorites. We win this game, if we have a bad game, we win by 3, a good game and we win by 21. AFA just doesn't have a good squad this year. Reports of Yost being out 6-8 weeks were wrong. He is in fact healthy for this week. (A bug in the game, since he was questionable for 5-7 weeks last week with a different injury, and he is now healthy. Weird.) But I am happy about his return. 1st Quarter A six minute drive leads to points first for AFA. 3-0 Falcons. After a AFA pick deep in their own end, Yost finds Matthew Mcdonald with a 12 yard TD pass. 7-3 Rams after 1 quarter. 2nd Quarter Their suprisingly sucessful offense gets down the field for a FG. 7-6 Rams now. They get yet another field goal on their next drive. Now 9-7 Falcons. Yost is struggling 7/17 83 yards 1 TD 0 INT. Not bad stats, but highly inaccurate for a 68 % completion quarterback so far this year. Simmons catching a screen and picks up speed, but fumbles it away and the Falcons take the fumble 51 yards for a TD. 16-7 Falcons with 1:31 left in the half, and I am now feeling concern. 29 yard pass to Mcdonald with 1:01 left and we are at midfield. Gain of 35 to William Robinson, the fullback and we are at their 13 with 38 seconds left. Yost to TE Jack Hughes for the TD. 16-14 at the half. 3rd Quarter 2 drives—nothing to start the half, and Brown will lead the Rams option out against the Falcons option on our next drive. Air Force adds a touchdown first. 23-14 Falcons now. Simmons is dead today, 9 carries for only 17 yards. Back to Yost now as they now lead 29-14, and we need quicker points. At least they missed the 2-pt conversion. 4th Quarter We ended the 3rd on a 3 and out. Can the offense come back to life to save this game? Kurt Quiroz gains 53 after a broken play and we are in scoring range. Yost then has a pass picked and run back 36 yards. We are in DEEP trouble! 32-14 Falcons now with 9 minutes left. Yost makes a nice effort, but after a costly holding penalty we turn it over on downs. Yost 23/49 323 yards 2 TD 1 INT, but Simmons only ran for 27 yards on 14 carries, (he caught 82 yards) and the lack of a running game and inaccuracy doomed us to a shocking defeat. 35-14 was the final after a late field goal.

We are 1 point favorites but the team's have about even talent. Their defense is slightly better than ours, but their good RB is out so a (44) rated halfback is starting. We have four running backs better than that on our team. 1st Quarter 5 plays: 57 yards TD for BYU. 7-0 We get a 1st and Goal, but settle for a 20 yard field goal. 7-3 Cougars. BYU fumbles it away quickly, and we get a 22 yard TD drive, ending in a pass to Quiroz. 10-7 Rams. DT Jeffrey Green pokes out the ball, and OLB Milligan runs in back 37 yards to inside their red zone. The Rams defense is on fire again today! 2nd Quarter We convert the TD to a touchdown. Yost to Mcdonald. 17-7 Rams. Yost is 12/12 57 yards and 2 touchdowns so far! BYU goes back down the field against our weak secondary—but they miss a 22 yard field goal! BYU drops our punt and we pick it up at their 39. What a lucky break. Our kicker makes his chip shot 26 yard try. 20-7 Rams now. BYU then misses from 44 yards; they need a new kicker. A turnover finally goes against us, Yost coughs it up. BYU gets a 10 yard TD pass and it is back to a single possession game. 3rd Quarter A horrific start to the quarter. After we pinned them down with a good quarter, their QB throws a 96, yes 96!! yard TD pass. 21-20 Cougars. We go back down the field and get a TD of our own. John Simmons goes 2 yards for a TD, and then 3 yards for a 2-pt conversion. 28-21 Rams. BYU blows another short kick—the 29 yarder goes wide right. BYU has 420 total yards, and we have 318 yards. However, we lead by 7 at the end of the 3rd quarter. We still have a challenge on our hands with their high-powered offense taking on our weak secondary. Oh, and Simmons is getting less than 3 YPC so it will be tough to run out the clock. 4th Quarter BYU finally makes a kick with 5 minutes left. 28-24 Rams now. Their offense is up to 480 total yards, but we're still holding them for the time being. Our offense hasn't gotten a first down this quarter yet. They get is 1st-10 from the 23 with 3 minutes left needing a TD. 1:58 left now and they have a first down at their 35. 1st-Goal at the 1 with 53 seconds left now. TD cougars. 31-28 them with 44 seconds left. We run out of time at our own 40. Yost threw for 320 yards and Simmons had 60 on the ground, but their offense had 550 total yards, and there isn't much you can do to win a game when their offense is that unstoppable. Colorado State (2-3) @ San Diego State (5-2) They are 10 point favorites, and they are a bit better than us. They feature star RB David Hernandez (79/87), but the rest of their team is ordinary. 1st Quarter We start out with a 3 and out for our defense, and our offense starts out going down the field but botches the field goal try from 46. Charlie Hall makes the effort on the next drive from 42 out and we lead 3-0. Hall gets another try and makes it from 43. 6-0 Rams now. 2nd Quarter A six minute 15 play 74 yard drive for the Aztecs ends in a 22 yard field goal. 6-3 Rams. An excellent goal line stand for us. 9-3 at the half as we get a field goal with 14 seconds left. We are winning total yards 204 to 103 but only lead by 6. Yost has gotten almost all the yards—162 through the air for us. 3rd Quarter 9-6 Rams now as they add a field goal. Hernandez has 122 yards already for the Aztecs, but we have been able to contain them when necessary. 4th Quarter We start the quarter off by pinning them at their 5 with an excellent punt. Then, a sweep to Hernandez that goes NOWHERE! Loss of 5, and it is a safety! 11-6 Rams. The Rams defense has scored 3 touchdowns and a safety for us now this year. Now 11-9 Rams with 6 minutes left. What a strange game so far. Less than 300 total yards for us, less than 200 for them—less than 75 through the air for them. This should be an exciting finish. Simmons has 77 yards for us, but it has taken him 26 carries to get those yards. We punt with 5 minutes left. 4th-7 from their own 44 with 1:51 left now. QB scramble, and he is racing now turns towards the sidelines we slam into him, and he falls two yards short! Rams ball at their 49 with 1:42left. :) Touchback with 40 seconds left and they take over at their 20. Gain of 36! on first down and they are at our 44. 3rd-10 18 seconds left at our 44 for the Aztecs. Dropped! 4th-10 with 10 seconds left. The QB is sacked! 2 seconds left. One kneeldown and this one is over! Rams hold on 11-9! What a weird score. A safety won the game for us. Rams 11 Aztecs 9

UNLV (3-4) @ Colorado State (3-3) We are 8 point favorites, but it is going to be bigger than that. Their best player is a 61 rated punter. Only 4 of their players would start on my team. They suck. A Rams blowout is coming. 1st Quarter Jim Yost throws to Fullback William Robinson for a 49 yard Rams Touchdown. 7-0 Rams. After a punt, Yost finds Quiroz for a 70 yard hookup. We enter the red zone. Our kicker misses the 29 yard try and it is still 7-0. On the next drive, Yost finds another back: John Simmons, for a 45 yard TD catch and run. 14-0 Rams. Our superior speed is killing UNLV early. Yost has 194 yards passing at the end of the quarter, and Simmons has 40 rushing yards as well. 2nd Quarter We had a drive going, but our FB coughed it up. They then get a deep bomb of their own, a 38 yard strike to make this one interesting. 14-7 Rams with 8 left in the 1st half. We got to field goal range, but Yost fumbled it away after being sacked. We get it back after a punt, but an end around ends in disaster after Quiroz loses it. They got it at our 12, but we promptly picked them off. We've given up 4 turnovers, but their QB has been picked 3 times. A sloppy game, but one which also features 323 total first half yards for the Rams. Scratch the 4 turnovers and we are winning 35-7 now. 3rd Quarter UNLV starts the 2nd half with an 11 play 75 yard TD drive. 14 all. Our 330 total yards will not save us if we can't score. Our offense gets a 52 yard drive ending in a 4th-down non-conversion, but they quickly get picked and we get good field position. 6 minutes remain in the 3rd. The speedy (for a TE) Charles Cervantes takes off and goes 66 yards for a TD knocking over a safety in the process. 21-14 Rams. 4th Quarter Backup halfback Bryan Perkins then catches a touchdown to cap a 16 play drive for us. 28-14 now as this game is feeling safer. Another interception of the UNLV quarterback insures our victory. Less than 7 minutes remain. John Simmons runs in a short TD and it is 35-14 with 3 minutes left. After a brief scare, the Rebels ran out of gas. We manage to grab the sixth interception of the game with 48 seconds left. Final Stats: Yost 27/41 420 yards 4 Touchdowns 0 Interceptions Simmons 31 carries 141 yards 1 Touchdown Cervantes 4 catches 86 yards 1 Touchdown Quiroz 5 catches 102 yards. A balanced attack with amazing passing, and an established rushing threat from Simmons led to lots of points, and the six interceptions kept them from keeping pace. A VERY satisfying game to coach.

Next Up: It's stat enhancement time for the Rams. Middle Tennessee State (3-5) @ Colorado State (4-3) We are only 15 point favorites, but this game will be pure blowout. They will be demolished, and Yost may get another 400 yard passing game. 1st Quarter Yost to Quiroz for a 12 yard TD pass to get the scoring rolling. Simmons got 37 yards on the ground in the opening drive. They respond with a 3 play 71 yard TD drive--a 29 yard TD pass ends it. Apparently nobody told Middle Tenn State that they were supposed to roll over and play dead. 7-7. 10-7 MTSU now, as their QB has 110 yards passing in the first quarter. He is rated 46, but our secondary is still getting killed. 2nd Quarter Their lead doesn't last long, as Simmons pounds in a 3 yard TD run a minute into the 2nd quarter. 14-10 Rams. We quickly add a field goal. 17-10 now. 17-10 Rams at the half, and they actually lead in total yards. They have not played dead like we hoped for. They have instead had a great offensive performance. We will need to step up the intensity to make sure to prevent the upset. 3rd Quarter The 3rd starts with fun, as our punter gets one out at their 1. We then bury their running back in their own end zone. This is the sort of intensity that I was telling the players we needed at halftime. 19-10 Rams now. 22-10 Rams with 6 minutes left after a field goal. Infrequenly used WR Wendall Woodward catches his first TD of the year on a 17 yard strike. 29-10 Rams. That was the sort of quarter I wanted to close out this game. 4th Quarter Damn Middle Tennessee State makes it interesting again with a 42 yard TD pass to start the 4th. 29-17 Rams now. Next play from scrimmage is an 81 yard strike from Yost to Quiroz for a TD. 36-17 Rams, and this game is safe now. 39-17 after a turnover led to a field goal. Touchdown and 2-pt conversion and it is 39-25 with 4 minutes left. Matthew Brown, doing a bit of mop-up work, runs a 17 yard QB scramble for a TD. Final Score: Colorado State 46 Middle Tennessee State 25 Their QB actually outhrew ours in yards 358-336. Their offense got over 400 total, while ours just passed 500. Simmons had another solid game, 33 carries for 139 yards and a Touchdown. Yost had 336 yards 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, so certainly a good game for him. Quiroz was the star receiver with 4 catches for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the sweet 81 yard bomb grab.
