Third Dynasty Attempt (Saves getting Corrupted :( )

Recommended Posts

Colorado State @ Ball State Week 1 game. We will warm up with a nice blowout of Ball State. We are 15 point favorites, and we can expect to win by at least that margin. Their team is horrible. 1st Quarter 11 plays 80 yards TD for the Rams, as new QB Davis goes 3/3 and Edwards gets 40 yards rushing and a TD. Ball State manages to come up with an 11 play 59 yard drive, but we limit their effort to an FG. Davis' first career carry goes for 6 yards, but ends in a fumble to Ball State. They get a TD off the short field and they lead 10-7 at the end of 1 quarter. 2nd Quarter Davis is hurt (probable 2-4 weeks) so Lane is back at QB. He comes on and throws a TD pass on his first throw of the year to Chas Robinson. 14-10 Rams. With 2 minutes left in the half, we intercept Ball State at their 30. We should get more points before the half ends. Edwards gets a beautiful 16 yard TD run. 21-10 Rams. 3rd Quarter So far, both Rams QB's have completed all 6 of their passes. The Rams passing attack is 12/12 for 109 yards and a TD! We would pass more, but Edwards has 71 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries. We get another TD halfway through the quarter on another Edwards rushing TD, his 3rd of the game. 4th Quarter 31-10 Rams after we added a field goal. 31-17 after Ball State gets a 43 yard TD pass. Our secondary is not a strength on our team. Daniel Lane flips a screen pass to Leonel Herbert and it goes down as a 44 yard TD pass! 38-17 Rams now. Ball State races back down the field, and they get a TD but only 1 minute remains. 38-24 Rams. Our secondary is getting exposed. Their QB is 18/28 272 2 TD's, however, we have picked him off 3 times. 45-24 is the final, as Lane finds Cantu with a 49 yard pass, and then Edward gets his fourth TD, this time from 6 yards out. Edwards had 27 carries for 118 yards and 4 TD's, and our QB's threw for 200 yards combined and missed only 1 pass, with a 94% completion percentage for the game! We are thrilled. Yes, it was Ball State, but we were dominant.

Colorado State (1-0) @ #21 Oklahoma State (2-0) This is a GOOD OK State team. They are 11 point favorites this week and many media members are predicting a blowout. Senior QB Brian Thomas (79/80) is a darkhorse heisman candidate and they have a good RB as well. However, they are a bit weak at places on the line, and at linebacker. We have a chance at the upset, I think. We were looking for a "statement" game, and a win here would do that. Sadly my game froze with 7 minutes left in the 3rd with us up 21-17. I was too pissed off, so I just simmed it:
Colorado State: 31, Oklahoma State: 7

After the fantastic win over #21 Oklahoma State, it was time for San Diego State. Colorado State (2-0) @ San Diego State (2-1) They are 2 point favorites though talent is about even. We would really really like to have this game. We need to get the conference crusade off to a good start. 1st Quarter SDSU cashes in on an uncharacteristic fumble by Edwards deep in our own zone. They get a 12 yard TD drive for the early lead. We get down the field with a 60 yard drive which ends in a field goal. 2nd Quarter SDSU quickly counters with a 68 yard TD drive. 14-3, and we need to get our act together. Edwards has disappeared the last two games, (13 yards today so far). 21-3 after we hold them to a 3rd-32 on their own 49, after which their QB finds a receiver for a 48 yard gain. What the hell? How does a team gain 48 yards on 3rd-32, when we knew they would have to throw deep? I hate my secondary. 21-9 as we get an 82 yard drive in 3 minutes, but then I decide to go for a surprise 2pt conversion and it didn't work. 3rd Quarter We hold them to a quick 3-out and happily take over at midfield. We get into field goal range and convert from 38. Now I am angry that I missed the 2pt play. 21-12 Aztecs. 4th Quarter Frank Anderson is in at QB after Lane is out hurt. Hall converts a 46 yard field goal with 11 minutes left. We are still alive, down 21-15. 7 plays, 51 yards, and we are inside their 15 with 4 minutes left. The game rests on this drive... 3rd-1 at their 3 coming up. Raymond Edwards goes off right tackle, leaps and is IN! 22-21 Rams with 2:56 left in the game. 3 incompletions for the Aztecs... then 4th-10, and the QB is down. Yes! A sack and we take over at their 21. We get stopped and take the field goal, to make it 25-21 Rams with 11 seconds left. They would get one more heave from their own 23, but we instead sacked the QB again. We prevail in a nice comeback. It is tough to rally from 18 down, but we did! This will be nice momentum for next week when we have a relatively easy game against Wyoming.

We are still not ranked, only #33 in the media poll, #24 in GDCS. However, we get an easy Wyoming team this week. We are 14 point home favorites... Wyoming (1-3) @ Colorado State (3-0) 1st Quarter Lane and Edwards are both hurt (probable) but will sit unless needed since this is an easy opponent--I think. We strike first with a 60 yard opening drive and short FG. Herbert then breaks free on our next drive and goes 11 yards for the TD! 10-0 Rams early. Wyoming then returns a punt 69 yards for a TD. 10-7 Rams. 2nd Quarter CSU then strikes again with another field goal to start the 2nd quarter. We should have scored again before the half, but Anderson is picked in the end zone. 3rd Quarter Their offense has less than 50 yards so far, and we add a field goal on our first 3rd quarter drive. This game is going well, but we do miss Edwards (2 carries, 2 yards) as Herbert has only 20 carries for 57 yards, but he does have a TD. After a Wyoming fumble, we take over at their 28, and get a 1 play 28 yard TD drive--a pass from Anderson to Young. We go for the knockout blow, but the 2pt play is no good, and they are still only 2 possessions away. 22-7 Rams now. 4th Quarter Wyoming starts the quarter with a long drive that gets them past 100 total yards for the game and sets up a field goal. However, the 33 yard effort goes wide right. Then Herbert makes his presence known with a breakaway 67 yard TD run. 29-7 Rams now. That would be the final. Anderson has a poor game 14/31 127 yards 1 TD 1 INT 12 carries 68 yards, however Herbert gets 124 yards and 2 touchdowns, Young gets 70 yards and 8 YPC, and the defense limited them to less than 150 total yards. Will we be ranked next week?

Utah (2-1) @ Colorado State (4-0) This is a good Utah team, but probably not a team that can win a playoff game like last year. They are starting a freshman QB. However, their defense, led by a (75) rated ILB, is still very potent. In all, this game features equal talent, and we are only 1 point favorites. 1st Quarter Note: Robinson and Cantu, our top WR's, will both sit today with questionable-rated injuries. They will only play if we are trailing badly. Edwards is still nicked up, but is healthy enough to start today. The 1st quarter features about 50 yards of offense and lots of punts for both offenses. However, Utah coughs it up at their own 37 with one minute left in the quarter. 2nd Quarter We are stopped on 4th-1 at the 28. I guess I should have kicked. Finally the first scoring attempt of the game occurs with 2:14 left in the 1st half, but the Utes field goal from 42 yards out goes wide left. Suddenly Lane gets hot and completes 8 passes gaining 68 yards in the 2 minute drill, but our kicker misses a 29 yard kick wide right. 3rd Quarter More punting. We kick one away with 5 minutes left in the 3rd, but they fumble it away, we pick it up, and run it 14 yards for a TD! 7-0 Rams. The gridlock is broken! Then Lane gets picked inside our 20, and they get a short field. We limit them to a 23 yard FG. 7-3 Rams at the end of 3 quarters. 4th Quarter Gain of 39 to backup WR Harry Cabrera, and we are inside their 20! Our kicker then blows a 25 yard field goal left. I am ticked off!!! :(   We trade punts again, and then they launch a drive. So far, 6 plays 47 yards, and now they face 3rd-9 at our 24 with 3:18 left. They get a TD pass on the next play. Wait! :) Offensive pass interference. They run the 3rd-24 from their 39, and gain 21! 4th-3 at our 19 coming up... and the QB is sacked! We take over with just over 2 minutes left. Gain of 21 for Raymond Edwards, easily his longest run of the day. We get stopped and have to punt, but their is only 30 seconds left. The punt goes over the returners' head and is out at the 7! 3rd-10 from their 7 with 5 seconds left. Incomplete! We win 7-3, on a special teams TD! Lane threw for 200 yards (1 INT) but the running game had only 114 yards on 49 carries. The Rams offense was awful but the special teams carried us! What a game! We have upended conference winner Utah from last year, and now we are the frontrunners, and, oh, we beat a top 25 team and are 5-0! :D

Not only do we get into the top 25...we fall several places to #36 in the poll. However CPU poll bumps us up to #7 and we are #19 in BCS rating. PLEASE FIX THE POLLS! Why am I unranked when Oklahoma State--a school we beat 35-7 and is (4-2), #23 in the media and #21 in the coaches poll? I don't get it. We are undefeated and they lost to us AND #18 Texas A+M. Sure, they are quality losses, but we should be rated higher than them. Anyway, rant done. Colorado State (5-0) @ New Mexico We are only 3 point favorites. Their team, minues a punter, has no player better than (64) rated. We are a much better team than them, and we should demolish them. 1st Quarter Wingback Leonel Herbert gets an explosive 27 yard run to start our first drive, and then Edwards cleans up with a 3 yard TD run. They counter with an 88 yard kickoff return and quick TD run of their own. 7-7 now with 10:14 left in the 1st quarter. We then have a 28 yard field goal try blocked. Lane is hurt (Questionable for 5-7 weeks) and we are going back to Anderson P (0-2) weeks. Juarez may get to play again. Anderson throws a 44 yard TD pass to WR Charles Davis. 14-7 Rams now. 2nd Quarter UNM strikes back with a 10 yard TD pass of their own to start the 2nd quarter. We strike back with a 10 play 68 yard drive ending in a 8 yard TD pass to Edwards. They punt, and with 1 minute left, we try to score again. Our drive starts slow, but then we find Chas Robinson for a 44 yard completion to field goal range! We put up a 46 yard field goal try, but it is wide left. 3rd Quarter Hall then blows another field goal, this time from 41. He has missed his last four field goal attempts. Their kicker doesn't suck, and converts from 39 yards out. 21-17 Rams. 4th Quarter 15 plays 94 yards and a TD pass to TE Barber. 28-17 Rams and the drive ate lots of time. Less than 10 minutes remain now. Anderson then gets a pass intercepted and returned 33 yards for a TD. They miss the 2pt play. We counter that with a long drive that scores a TD with 1:02 left. 35-23 Rams. However, they get a 2 play 48 yard TD drive after a good kickoff return and it is 35-30. We cover the onside and run out the clock. Anderson throws for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns (1 interception) for us. Edwards and Anderson both ran for over 120 yards as well. We generated 588 net yards, compared to 295 for them. We are not happy at the margin--we wanted a blowout--but we are pleased to go to 6-0. We also are ranked #24 after new polls came out. We have a bye week now. Our QB's need to heal, as do our WR's.

UNLV (4-2) @ #24 Colorado State They don't have that good of a roster, but they are a scrappy squad that is 4-2 with a win over Cal this year. We are 7 point favorites and should win, but we need to be careful. 1st Quarter Davis, our projected starter this year, has finally gotten his grades up, and will return to starting role. Anderson is also healthy again. Edwards is also fully healthy, and Cantu and Robinson are healthy at WR. Bye weeks are good for an ailing team. We are at nearly full strength roster wise. Davis, has only played 1 game this year due to grades, but we happily give him his job back. Davis strikes quickly for us with a 2 yard TD scramble. 7-0 Rams. Their QB hits a 35 yard pass to get them in field goal range and our lead contracts to 7-3 after 1 quarter. Davis is already 6/7 for 42 yards for us so far. We will use more passing with his improved arm versus our other QB's. We aren't abandoning the run, but so far we've only gotten 40 yards on 12 carries. 2nd Quarter Their offense is moving pretty well, but they miss an FG. Davis then fires a TD to best Ram receiver Chas Robinson. This is the first time this year that this combo hooked up for a TD--what a shame. At the end of the half, David takes us inside the 20, but a bullet to Chas pops up into the air and is picked off. Davis is still 15/18 for 109 yards 1 TD 1 INT. A nice for him, plus the rushing TD as well. 3rd Quarter Our first drive of the 3rd quarter also leads to points, this time an FG. Davis is having a great first game back! 4th Quarter The scoring has slowed, but we add another field goal to make this game almost out of reach with 12 minutes left. 20-3 Rams. They get the 3 back, but it took them a 5 minute drive, and the clock is under 8 minutes. 20-6 Rams. The difference so far has been our secondary, which has picked off their QB Clark 3 times including once in the end zone! :) Edwards ices the game on the next drive with an 11 yard TD gallop! 27-6 Rams. They add a meaningless TD with 22 seconds left. Final 27-13 Rams! Edwards leads the charge with 23 carries for 128 yards and a TD. Davis throws for over 200 yards and 75% completion rating with a TD and an INT. Chas Robinson greatly enhanced his season stats with a 10 catch 115 yard 1 TD game. We are thrilled. We again held the opposition under 300 total yards while we got near 500.

We are only 4 point favorotes--their roster isn't that great, but they are scrappy and the OL is good--though they are starting a poor freshman QB. 1st Quarter We are experimenting with FB Jonas Beaver starting. He is only rated (39/67) but was a 52 at RB last year. He is a good run blocker (60) and brings more speed and acceleration to an option attack than Young. So far, he has 4 carries for 29 yards. Davis is starting at QB again. 14 plays 63 yards and an FG to start the game for us. 2nd Quarter Their offense explodes with a TD drive covering 92 yards. However, we return the favor with an 85 yard TD drive of our own. 10-7 Rams. FB Jonas Beaver now has 9 carries for 65 yards and the TD. 3rd Quarter 17-7 Rams now after we take the opening kick and drive for a TD. A 30 yard pass to Hugh Harris sets us up, and then Beaver gets a 1 yard TD plunge. 17-7 Rams. TCU's running back then goes nuts with a 52 yard TD run, but a tripping penalty wipes that out. However, the drive recovers and goes 15 plays ending in a 1 yard TD run from the same RB. 17-14 Rams. That drive took 6 minutes and the 3rd quarter is almost gone. This should be an exciting finish. 4th Quarter Their RB is up to 125 yards and 2 TD's now. We can't stop him. He gets them into field goal range to start the quarter, and we are all tied up. We then fumble away the ensuing kickoff. :( Their drive goes -5 yards so they take the 34 yard field goal try, which is good. 20-17 Frogs. We get a decent drive to their 43, and decide to punt on 4th-6. It goes out at the 1!! We then bury their star RB in the end zone. 20-19 Frogs with 7 minutes left. We had to punt. We need a stop NOW. We get it back with 3:11 left at our own 12 yard line. Howard Davis to Chas Robinson gain of 47! Then gain of 14 for Jonas Beaver off left tackle. Now we are at their 28 with 2 minutes left. Now a face mask penalty combined with a good Edwards run and we are at the 11. Beaver gets a 9 yard run to the 2 yard line with 1:20 left. Beaver gets another carry and gets the TD. We go for 2, and Davis finds Robinson for the 2pt play. 27-20 with 1:03 left. They go deep, but we pick them off at our own 20 and this game is over. The game goes final, and we survive a big scare. Davis led the way with 14/24 passing for 233 yards, 108 to Robinson. Beaver ran for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns! Their offense was too good, their RB ran for 148 yards, but we stood when we needed to with 4 minutes left in regulation getting time for our offense. Davis really is a difference maker with his "pretty good" arm.

What a strange season. We don't move in the media poll but are up to #14 in the coaches poll, #2 in the CPU, and #10 in the BCS. The strange thing is... we have no QB with more than 700 yards passing, but 4 with over 100. 6 running backs or QB's have run for over 100 yards, but the leader, Edwards, only has 444. Receiving--8 receivers with 100 yards, only 1 with over 200, Chas Robinson with 400. We have no leaders on the offense, yet we still have the #41 offense in the league. I don't really care how it has worked, I just know it has. Next up, BYU with the #118 offense in the league. Finally, a breather.

Now that I have a good team :) , this diary will get more detailed. Next up, we face a bad 6-5 Air Force Team. They come to our house to challenge us. This game is a rivalry game, so they will play tough, but their run defense has been exposed this year. They are #88 in the nation in run defense, and we will challenge it all game. However, their QB Dee White is rated 65, and is probably going to be 1st-team all Mountain West this year. If we stop him, and his scrambling ability, we can beat the rest of the team. All of their DL is rated under 52, and so we will focus on the ground game. In the polls, we are looking pretty good, up to #12 in the Media and #9 in the Coaches. The CPU rating has us at #2, and the BCS has us at #6. If we win this game and then the Rocky Mountain Showdown against Colorado, we should get a good seed in the playoffs. Colorado is only 6-4, but the big 12 has 4 teams in the top 10, so they are still ranked #21 due to strength of schedule. We can't look past Air Force though, even though we are 11 point favorites. All our QB's and RB's are healthy today--in fact, all the starters are healthy for this weeks' game. However, Davis' GPA has dipped down to 1.88, so he will be getting lots of tutoring. We would rather use him than Lane or Anderson for the playoffs. Even if we lose this game, we still win the MWC outright, but we don't want our seeding to get blasted. 9:34 1st quarter: That wasn't in the game plan. Cantu catches a 74 yard TD pass, it was our first pass of the game. We had run the ball 9 times, and this was our first pass, and a good one indeed for Davis. 6-0 Rams. 9:34 Our stupid kicker misses the XP. 3:14 We get to 4th-1 at their 47. We decide to go for it. We trust our QB Howard Davis, and he rolls out to the right on a bootleg. He keeps it and finds a seam. He goes 13 yards before their SS finally runs down Davis. 1:25 Same drive, and we are stalled to a 3rd-7 after Edwards takes a 3 yard loss. However, Davis rolls out and finds brother Charles Davis for a 12 yard completion to their 6. 6-0 Rams at the end of the 1st quarter We have outgained them 182-31 in total yards. We also have 4th-G at their 7 coming up. 15:00--2nd Quarter: Charlie Hall converts the 25 yard try. 9-0 Rams. 13:18 Air Force shanks a punt, and we take over at their 49. 12:21 A defensive holding penalty keeps our drive alive after a 3rd-10 pass is dropped. 10:43 3rd-down and 3, we hand to FB Jonas Beaver and he goes 4 yards for a first down at their 22. 9:02 A sweep play to Edwards get blown up on 3rd-5, so we settle for another field goal. 12-0 Rams. 5:52 Davis finds a seam on a scramble, and goes 22 yards to get back in Falcon territory. Edwards is averaging less than 3 yards a carry so far, but Davis has been unstoppable. He has 6 carries for 50 yards so far. 5:39 On the next play, Davis is sacked and hit in the ribs. He is out for the rest of the game. I sure hope he returns for our game against Colorado in 2 weeks. Lane will take over, and will be fine with our team having a lead against a bad Air Force team. 5:19 Offensive pass interference wipes out a TD pass for Lane. We are also taken out of field goal range. 1:39 It's two minute drill time: Lane completes 3 passes for 26 yards and we are inside their 30. 1:14 TE Luther Campbell fumbles the ball away at the 15. Our D again stops them cold to run out the half with us still up 12-0. 12-0 Rams at the half. We are dominating 274-93 total yards. We lead them in first downs 11 to 4. Our defense is dominant today, although the run game for us has not been as good as expected. Edwards has only 42 yards on 12 carries. 15:00-3rd Quarter: Their kickoff is short, and we return it to our 43. Already a good start to the half. 14:09 Edwards loses 4 yards on 3rd-1 so we punt. 12:17 Air Force, due to a penalty, is backed up to their own 4. However, they get off a good punt, so we take it at midfield. 10:02 We punt again, but they get it at their own 8. We are dominating the field position battle. 8:33 We get it back at our own 49. I can feel that we are about to get a drive going. 6:52 Jonas Beaver explodes to the left side of the line and goes 22 yards before he is tracked down. 1st-10 at their 18 coming up. A TD pretty much ends this game, but we just happy to be back in the red zone. 6:27 Johnny Cantu catches a 15 yard pass, and we have 1st-Goal at the 3. It looks like their will be no Falcon upset today. 5:16 Edwards goes nowhere on 2 carries, but then Lane finds Cantu for the TD pass. 19-0 Rams. Their defense is stopping the run, but not the pass. This is not what we expected, but we like 19-0! :) 2:01 After a punt, we take over at our own 44. Leonel Herbert runs a shallow slant route, and catches a 5 yard pass... However, he gets a good block, makes a man miss, and goes all the way to the end zone! 56 yard TD play, and we lead 26-0. 26-0 Rams after 3 Quarters We now have outgained them 418 to 103 in total yards. This game is near blowout status now. We would like to keep the shutout though, that would be a good momentum boost for our defense. 12:13 4th Quarter:Their excellent QB finally makes a good play, hitting their TE for a 39 yard completion. 10:28 They convert a chip shot field goal to make it 26-3. So much for the shutout. :( 3:14 Edwards completes our 4th 3rd-down conversion on our current drive, with a 4 yard pickup on 3rd-3. We have 1st-G now. The drive has now covered 56 yards in 15 plays and eaten up over 6 minutes of clock. 1:57 18 plays 8 minutes off the clock, and Beaver punches it in from 3 yards out. 33-3 Rams. 1:17 SS Richard Owens picks an AF pass and runs it back 28 yards for a TD! 40-3 Rams. This puts an ! on the defense's excellent play today. #12 Colorado State 40 Air Force 3 We get 497 total yards compared to under 150 for them. Edwards improved as the game went on. Beaver also had a great. Jonas was a seldom used running back, but at fullback, he has been a force. The Rams team is very excited after our biggest margin win of the season. We have next week off, so players have two weeks to get pumped for playing and beating arch-rival Colorado. On the thursday before the game, I purchased a live buffalo, and we slaughtered it on campus and the team ate it. I expect similar results on the football field Saturday. We are not expecting to have Davis back at QB for this week's game, so Lane has been playing again with the 1st team offense. Ironically, Lane is the leading passer on the team with almost 900 yards on the season, though he is the #2 QB, and was out with injuries for several weeks as well. Edwards is healthy and ready to beat the Buffaloes. The defense is also injury-free and ready for the game. We moved up to #11 in Week 14 and now #7 in week 15. Even more shockingly, we are now #1 in the Coaches poll, up from #5 last week. :D :) :p :D :) We are #2 in the CPU and BCS ratings. We didn't even need a playoff system to have a shot at the national title this year... However, we are the only undefeated team in the nation. I think that even in real life, an undefeated Mountain West team would play in the title game if all other schools had a loss. Anyway, we have a great opportunity, and the team is hyped in the week of practice leading up to the Showdown.

#24 Colorado (6-4) @ #7 Colorado State ABC has arrived for this game at Hughes Stadium, and we take center stage, as we are the national game of the week. No more ESPN or CSTV for our viewers, this is the primary game, as everyone wants to see the undefeated team that they no nothing about. Colorado has had a respectable season, losing to #1 Kansas State by 3 points, #2 Missouri by a touchdown in OT, #22 Nebraska by 12, and #25 Texas Tech by 3. They also got a quality win versus #12 Texas A+M. They beat common opponent Oklahoma State (our only nationally respected win) by 21. Colorado is actually a 1 point favorite to win this game IN OUR STADIUM. I am reminding my team of this constantly. The Rams are hungry to prove the naysayers wrong today. If ratings are the only judge, CU wins this game, as they have more 65+ rated players than we do. Their RB and QB, Rivera and Hill, are both better than their counterparts on our team, and our D will have to be up to the challenge of stopping them. Their defense, especially against the run, is stout, but Edwards has promised me a nice running game. They don't have any glaring weaknesses, but two starting OL are out for them, so we may be able to get a pass rush against an inexperienced line. By the way, the doctors have cleared Davis to play at QB today, and he will start. 1st Quarter 14:03 Davis doesn't take long to make his presence know, getting a 41 yard scramble on third down! 10:43 Our opening drive is down to their 3 yard line for a 3rd and Goal. A great start for the offense so far. 10:22 Edwards goes nowhere, so we take the field goal. We are off to a nice start, but we would have liked a TD to end our 77 yard drive. 8:133 plays-39 yards, and their offense is rolling. 3 first down plays off 1st down in a row. 5:33 Their FB tears through our line on 3rd and Goal to get a TD from 5 yards out. Their offense shredded us on thier 9 play 64 yard TD drive. 7-3 Buffaloes. 3:28They get a 38 yard pass, and they are in scoring range again. Our defense is getting exposed. 1:26 We slow them down this time, but the damage is done in the form of a 37 yard field goal. They already have over 100 total yards compared to 60 for us. We need to get some more defense quickly. 10-3 Buffaloes after 1 quarter and we are about to punt again. Come on offense. 2nd Quarter 13:38 An interception by our D is wiped out by pass interfence. 11:26 An inconvenient holding penalty wipes out a pass to our 5 and they have to punt. 10:31 Short pass+roughing the passer=1st and 10 at the CU 31. There are a lot of penalties in this game--the last two have been good for us. 9:184th-1 at the 21 coming up...the crowd is begging me to go for it. And Davis is stuffed--loss of 1. What a bad decision on my part--I got caught up in the crowd fervor. 6:00 We get a 37 yard pass to Luther Campbell, and we have it down to their 11 yard line. Our offense is making big plays today. 5:07 Chas drops a pass on 3rd down, so we make a 26 yard field goal instead. 10-6 Buffaloes. 3:19 Free Safety Timothy Keene makes the play of the game for the Rams so far. He picks off a CU pass and takes it to the house, covering 59 yards. The Xtra point is good and we lead 13-10! I :) good defense. 2:08 CU running back leaves it on the ground, and we pick it up! We get it at their 35. We will, at worst, go to the half with a lead, but hopefully we can get some points here. What a turnaround from being down 10-3. Gotta love takeaways! :D 0:58 No offense, so we punt. Rocky Mountain Showdown: Halftime: 13-10 Rams We are losing in total yards 201-164, but we are winning the defensive battle in turnovers. 3rd Quarter 13:45 58 yard TD pass, and the CU offense is back on top. 17-13 CU 13:38 What? Dropped kickoff, and they take over at our 21  11:19 They knock through the FG and they lead 20-13. The turnovers have turned on us. Suddenly, we are feeling very uncomfortable again. Come on Davis--we need ya now! 9:48 Edwards gets a 15 yard run, then Davis hits a 15 yard pass, and we are in the red zone. Chas Robinson makes the big catch. 8:37A holding penalty kills TD hopes, and we have to take a mid-range field goal, but Hall does convert. 20-16 Buffaloes. 6:45 We get it back, and Davis promptly hits Chas with a 52 yard TD strike! 6:45 Charlie Hall gets his Xtra Point blocked, and so the lead is 22-20 Rams. 5:07 CU's QB Hill hits a 42 yard TD bomb pass of his own, and they miss the 2pt conversion as we sack the QB. Now 26-22 Buffaloes, and they seem to want a shootout. Not what option teams usually do, but I am reassuring the players--we can outscore them, and any more help from the defense would be appreciated. 3:09Our following drive is rolling now: a 14 yard gain by FB Robert Young gets us to their 40. 0:28 We get in field goal range, but the drive stalls. Hall is having a good game (besides the Xtra Point) and nails a crucial 46 yard try. 26-25 Buffaloes after 3 quarters. Total yards 421-324 for CU First Downs 17-14 CU. But this game is so wild with big plays and turnovers that you can toss the stats. Whoever plays the best THIS quarter will win. The fans at our stadium--and the national audience--got everything they wanted and more with this game. 4th Quarter 10:09 Their offense goes 11 plays-61 yards, and we hold them to a field goal try. But their reliable kicker Raymond Ragsdale hits from 39 yards, and the lead stretches to 29-25. How many times have you seen that score? 9:12 Davis finds Chas for a 12 yard completion on 3rd-11 and we keep our drive alive. 6:56 And then the other safety STRUCK! SS JESSE OWENS picks off another CU pass and takes this one 62 yards for a RAMS TOUCHDOWN! Hall makes the Xtra this time and we lead 32-29. The momentum has totally shifted again. Our bench is pumped. 5:33They complete a 22 yard pass on 3rd down, and we miss our chance to shut their offense down. 4:05 Another 3rd down conversion, and they are in our red zone. 2:12 Damn it! Damn it! We commit our SECOND F-ing pass interfernce penalty in our own red zone. They have now had x and goal for 7 plays in a row. 1:12 3 plays later, they finall get the TD, and it is probably too late for our offense. 36-32. If they had scored on their first first-goal play, we would have had 4 minutes left--now we get less than 1.   :( :( Davis is picked off and we are done  . We put up a good fight, but you can't commit two penalties giving fresh downs in your red zone. What a legendary game though. ESPN classic will be showing it tomorrow--an instant game for the ages. They outgained us by 125 yards, but our key players had good games, and we were one pass interference penalty away from going to OT. And while the defense looked bad, giving up almost 500 yards--they did score 2 touchdowns :D .
