Ramfan77
San Diego State (1-7) @ Colorado State (4-3) Our season depends on winning this game--we are one of the most inconsistent teams in that nation, but it is not too late to save the season. We are disheartened by last week's loss, but we are again 10 point favorites, and look to please our home fans again. 1st Quarter 8:53 3rd-18 for us at their 28. We get a defensive holding call against them though, and we get new downs. 7:01 We used the new downs to get into Williams' range, but he missed anyway from only 28 yards out. 2:37 SS Jose Edwards knocked the ball free and recovers a fumble from their RB at their 35. We start near scoring range. 2:08 35 yard TD pass from Davis to Morin. 7-0 Rams. 2nd Quarter 14:27 They convert a short field goal after a good drive. We are outplaying SDSU, but they are playing well enough to stay competitive. 10:46 They put together another nice drive, and this time, they get the big play, a 36 yard TD pass, to finish off the drive. 2:01 3rd-2, and Davis takes off. His first run of the game covers 39 yards and gets us at the edge of scoring range. :32 We get the 2 yard line, but are stopped. "Chip Shot" sets up for the 20-yarder, but it is BLOCKED! He has now missed 4 kicks in the last 2 games. At halftime they lead 10-7. Total yards are tied at 228 but both offense are having trouble scoring. Look for more points in the 2nd half, as the defense are getting killed. 3rd Quarter 11:45 We take the opening kick and get a nice drive going. Davis suddenly ends it with a 36 yard TD draw play. 14-10 Rams. 3:33 We have stopped their offense entirely, and Davis leads another TD drive, this one covering 77 yards on 12 plays--TD pass to cabrera gets the points. SDSU gets a 40 yard drive to end the quarter, but after starting at their 12, that still doesn't get them points and we lead 21-10. Look for Reyes (85 yards) to surge will past 100 running out the clock here. 4th Quarter 14:27 Davis is picked at OUR 11 yard line. 12:37 We hold them to a field goal, and lead 21-13. A damaging turnover, but not a game changer/ 11:43 48 yard completion to Adam Morin, and we are in scoring range. 10:13 "Chip Shot" is 0/3 now after having a 37 yard attempt blocked. From great to horrible in two games for the walk-on. 4:02 We stop them on 3rd down at midfield, and they punt it back to us. We can run out the clock here, except that Reyes has -1 yards on his last 3 carries. 2:55 We punt back. They get it at their own 41. 1:53 A throw to our red zone is intercepted! We now need 1 first down to run out the clock. Our punt play runs out the clock. It was a tough game, but we outplayed them and deserved to win. Davis had a phenomenal game passing for almost 200 and running for 150! We are not a confident team, but we are a (5-3) team that if nothing else is heading to a bowl. What a weird season. Ramfan77
Colorado State (5-3) @ TCU (5-3) If we want any chance to win the conference championship--we win this game. The game is listed as even, though we have superior talent. However, with a team this inconsistent, nothing can be taken for granted. The fact that this is a road game is also scary. If we win this game and against Utah, we still make the playoffs. :) We've had a rough year, but the fans are ready to forgive us if we pull this one out. 1st Quarter Their running back gets an early TD run. 7-0 Horned Frogs. 2nd Quarter 13:36 Davis finds Reyes for an 11 yard TD pass play. 7-7 tie now. Yardage and first downs are also even. 12:01 They get a 60 yard bomb pass to our 2 yard line. 10:02 They settle for a field goal after a stuff and then 2 running plays for losses. 7:55 After a punt to their 8 yard line, we force a fumble and take over in the red zone. Their receiver needs to be more sure-handed. 7:01 We then fumble it away at their 3 yard line. A Costly Mistake! 4:01 Howard Davis gains 47 yards on a QB draw! What an electrifying carry. 1:30 13 yard strike on 3rd down to Reuben Gray to perserve the drive and set up 1st and Goal. 1:00 Different play, different formation, same result--7 yard TD pass to Reuben Gray. 14-10 Rams. :05 They got a 50 yard bomb on the previous play and then make a field goal on the last play of the half. 14-13 Rams at halftime. They are up by 97 total yards and one Davis draw excepted, we have no running game. Yet takeaways and more solid Davis passing have us in good position to win this game. 3rd Quarter 11:18 WR Adam Morin catches a 3 yard pass on 3rd-11, meaning that he has 6 catches today for only 27 yards (4.5 yards per catch.) What kind of a receiver gets 4.5 yards per catch? Davis has completed 18 passes today, but only for 126 yards. 5:36 4th-9 at their 35 is stopped as Reyes goes only 6 off the screen pass. 1:03 Kicker Kyle Pollard of TCU drains a 49 yard attempt to take a 16-14 lead. Our offense has sputtered this quarter. They lead after 3 quarter, but we have it at midfield, the offense has finally gotten a spark. 4th Quarter 13:25 2 carries needing 2 yards at their 41, both are stuffed, and we turn it over on downs. 7:01 A 38 yard completion from midfield is waved off due to penalty and TCU punts. A questionable offensive pass interference call saves the game for us! 5:44 Howard Davis gains 48 yards :) :D off a scramble! We are inside their 25! 4:16 Kevin ends his missing streak hitting a 37 yarder to take the lead! 3:08 Our defense says NO! We sack their QB on 3rd-8. We lead 17-16. However, except Davis, we have no run game with which to run out the clock. 1:49 3rd-10, Davis to Reyes gains 11! We can drain the clock now! :46 Robert Wynn ends their chances with a 5 yard burst on 3rd-4! We end up outgaining them in total yards, but take out Davis' carries, and we had no offense. Sure Davis threw it well, but they were all super short passes. We could get no big passing plays which makes winning very tough when Reyes and Edwards were completely lost in the running game. A win, but certainly it doesn't boost our confidence. Howard Davis is now our leading rusher and passer on the season, averging 9.7 yards a carry with 450 yards total. He also has a 20/6 TD ratio. Ramfan77
Colorado State (6-3) @ #19 Utah (8-0) This game is the conference championship game. They have 0 conf. losses, we have 1, and everyone else has 2+. We win this, and we win conference and return to the playoffs, we lose and who knows what bowl we go to. Utah does have the talent edge, but their QB is only rated (53) and their top 2 running backs are injured, so their skill position talent is a bit lacking in this game. They are 5 point favorites. 1st Quarter 14:45 35 yard kickoff return to start for Utah. 12:57 They have run inside the 20 now with a strong ground game from the #3RB. 9:57 Their offense gets down to the 3, but the defense doesn't give up, stuffs the offense, and they settle for a 27 yard field goal. WIDE RIGHT! We survive their 5 minute opening drive. 4:59 Their kicker makes his next try and they are up 3-0. 1:19 An interception ends another deep drive they were making. Over 100 total yards for them, 13 for us. 2nd Quarter 14:36 Long pass (58 yards) is followed by 21 yard TD pass. 10-0 Utes. 13:24 We counter with a 2 play TD drive of our own. 48 yard Davis draw and 32 yard TD pass to Charles Davis! 10-7 Utes. 4:51 Davis gains 10 on a scramble on 3rd-2 at their 13! First and Goal now. 3:55 Raymond Edwards gets the 3 yard TD run! 14-10 Rams. Nice composure to not fall apart after the 2 play TD drive that put them up 10-0. The clock would run out on the 2nd half with us up 14-10. 3rd Quarter 4:40 The offense is dead again, but "Chip Shot" connects from 40 to make our leadc 17-10. 2:15 They strike back with a quick aerial drive to tie it up at 17. 4th Quarter This game is even in every respect after 3. Score is tied--first downs even at 15, and they have 1, yes, 1, extra total yard: 335 to 334. 10:36 Utah strikes through the air again. 24-17 Utes. 4:25 We make a goal line stand, but their next drive takes 4 minutes off the clock and scores 3 points. We trail by 10 with only 4 minutes left. :33 They get another TD late, but the 34-17 score is not an accurate representation of a hard fought battle. We played a decent game, but again no ground attack, and Davis has more trouble making big passing plays without a ground game. He can create his own ground game, but the play action fakes are not working. The defense was adequate, though we hoped to rattle their low-rated QB a little more. We are very dissappointed, and need a win against Colorado to make this a successful year in fans' eyes. Ramfan77
Colorado State (6-4) @ UNLV (4-5) We want this game for bowl position. We lose this one, and we assuredly go to a crap bowl or no bowl at all. This game is even on the betting boards, but we have superior talent. The team is shaken up by the loss last week though, and they are quite unconfident at the moment. 1st Quarter 11:39 Early red zone penetration occurs for UNLV, but we limit them to a field goal. A 30 yard passing play was key to the drive. 10:45 Jonas Beaver gets a nice carry, but fumbles it away; returned then to our 18 yard line. 8:39 They get a TD pass soon after and lead 10-0. This Rams team starts slow every game this year. We have fallen behind many times this year by 10+ points. 8:01 The game hates us! Raymond Edwards gets a carry, goes 2 yards, and fumbles. They get it at our 21. 6:17 They get a TD and lead 17-0. I think BBCF is cheating on us--2 fumbles on consecutive carries, both lost inside our 20 yard line. Coincidence?I think not. 4:48 61 yard TD pass to Morin, and we have ended their momentum. 17-7 Rebels. 1:21 They get another nice drive and FG to lead 20-7. We ar down in everything, first downs 9-3, total yards 108-68, and points, 20-7. However, we are feeling lively, and have the ball back and our last play was a good one, the 61 yard TD pass. 2nd Quarter 13:28 3 yard TD pass from Davis to Davis to cut the margin to 20-14. 12:48 UNLV turns it over on a fumble near midfield. 11:51 Davis finds Davis again, this one from 52 yards out. 21-20 Rams in a shootout! :50 Finally, no turnovers or scores for awhile, but we get going in the 2 minute drill. Chas catches a 12 yard pass on 3rd-2 from the 28, and we are clearly in field goal range now. :18 "Chip Shot" nails a mid-range field goal to make it 24-20 Rams at the half. We have now passed them in total yards and first downs. A much better 2nd quarter, and we are feeling good about ourselves at halftime--except that I don't have the guts to run the ball after the earlier fumbles. 3rd Quarter 12:23 This is a shootout, right? We go for it on 4th-8, from their 40, and untalented and rarely used TE Andrew Haskins catches a 9 yarder to keep the drive alive. 10:19 "Chip Shot" connects from 25, and we take a 27-20 lead. 6:04 67 yard TD pass, and they tie this up at 27. :37 30-27 Rams after we get a nice drive that actually got rushing yards from running backs. 4th Quarter 12:52 They strike back with a TD, and they lead 34-30. This game is quite the shootout. We need TD's, not field goals. 9:50 Another quick drive and they throw another TD. 41-30 UNLV. 7:01 4th-1, they go for it, gain 3, and can run the clock down further. 5:26 48-30 after they get another touchdown. The defense completely died when needed. 4:49 The GAME IS CHEATING! Our kickoff returned is hit and fumbles. What sort of crap causes us to fumble 3 times inside our own 20 yard line. I HATE BBCF right now. 1:51 They add an FG to run the score to 51-30. :09 Davis scrambles in a short TD, and then we miss the 2pt conversion. I don't know why I tried the 2pt play, it just felt right. 51-36 Rebels is the final. Davis was outstanding 32/42 389 yards 3 TD 0 INT, but we can't overcome 4 lost fumbles, 3 within our red zone, leading to 17 points. We would have won if we only lost 1 fumble--not 4. Davis was phenomenoal though, but the D left a lot to be desired. Yes, they had to overcome turnovers, but they gave up over 400 yards, and that just doesn't work.
Ramfan77
From a team that is only 6-4, Colorado has been talking a lot of trash this week. They said that our running backs couldn't even start on their JV team. While they haven't been good this year, Reyes (483 yards 3.8 ypc, 1 TD) so far this year, Reyes and Edwards are fired up by their comments. Davis retorted by guaranteeing that he would run for 100 yards and a TD against their defense. Tempers have flared before the evenly-matched teams take the field in the yearly battle known as the Rocky Mountain Showdown. Colorado State (6-5) @ Colorado (6-4) Colorado is a 9 point favorite, but we are hopeful, and ready to smack our rivals around. 1st Quarter 14:32 JV league quality running back Reyes goes 10 yards of first down on our first carry of the game against the Buffaloes. 9:08 We suffer a crackback block penalty, and a holding penalty, and so our first drive accumlates 102 total yards and a TD! Davis throws 10/10 for 88 yards and a TD! Reuben Gray was his favorite target so far with 4 catches for 41 yards. Chas Robinson caught the 12 yard TD pass on 3rd down, and we lead 7-0. 5:25 CU wastes not time getting down the field with a 7 play 51 yard drive, but our Defense, unlike theirs, stiffens in the red zone and limits them to a field goal. 7-3 Rams. 2:01 We down a punt at their 4. 2nd Quarter 7:28 17 plays 96 yards, TD from Colorado. Their offense came to play today. 10-7 Buffaloes. 3:42 7 plays 71 yards, and another TD for Colorado. Their offense is unstoppable right now. Their QB is over 100 yards, and their running back has 10 carries for 68 yards. At halftime, they are +70 total yards and +6 on first downs. Our defense needs some answers. 3rd Quarter 7:06 No luck on defense yet. Another long 9 play drive for CU leads to a touchdown. 24-7 Buffaloes. Our defense has no answers. We have a better D than last year on paper, yet are struggeling greatly even against bad teams. 4:48 Raymond Edwards gives us a spark with a 35 yard carry that puts us in their territory. 3:15 We get to the 30, but our kicker can't make that kick, and our 4th down converstion is no good. 4th Quarter 7:26 They drain more clock with another long drive, and add a FG. 27-7 Buffaloes. Our running game, excepting the 35 yard Edwards carry, did nothing of significance. Excluding the 35 yard carry, we had 19 carries for 17 yards! How are we supposed to win that way? Davis wasn't that bad--28/42 212 yards 1 TD 2 INT, but he had no running game to back him up and the defense could NEVER get a stop when needed. We go back to Ft. Collins humiliated an wondering whether we even make a bowl game.
Ramfan77
We do get invited to the Emerald Bowl, to play against 6-5 Washington State. They are 9 point favorites, and I am so depressed by my team that I can't play out this game. I simmed through it and we get killed. Well, not killed, but we don't put up that good of a fight. DE Bruce Wilson (5 sacks) is 1st-team MWC as is SS Larry Daniels (99 tackles). TE Reuben Gray (319 yards, 2 TD) makes 2nd-team all MWC as does RG Nathaniel Potter. OT Joesph Green and K "Chip Shot" Williams make 3rd-team MWC. We have 3 3rd-team defensive MWC players. #3 Utah (14-0) is in the National Championship game after dumping #1 Tennessee (Utes were 10 point dogs). However, Utah's miracle season ends in the national championship game with a 16 point loss to #6 Purdue. Still, this was an amazing performance for the MWC. Somehow, I missed saving the season stats. Highlights: top RB gets only 550 yards (Reyes). Davis throws for almost 3000 yards and a great TD/INT ratio. Our bad kicker only missed 6 times, but long was only 43. I get a C+ Overall (F in Prestige). I got B in team performance and board expectations, the only upside of a bad bad report card. (I would have given me a C- though, so they were generous.) We need to recruit some better defensive players. We add a great kicker (ineligible due to transfer last year), if other elements of team come around, we could get bad to the top of the conference next year. Wyoming offered me a job, but I told them to f*ck off. Why would I go to such an evil school as them?

I love tight ends, and am always strong at this position. Robert Barber (70/77) is a FAST tight end with excellent pass-catching skills, though his blocking is only 3rd best of the tight end's. Still, he would be a great asset, except that he missed 11 games due to GPA last year, only appearing in the first game, and the bowl game. His GPA is now 1.68, and he will likely not play. Therefore, Kip Campbell a transfer from Iowa, will take over. He is rated (66/83) and has amazing upside. While slower than Barber, he runs fantastic routes, better than anyone else on the team, and is also a solid run blocker, though his pass blocking could use work. Ruben Gray will also see significant minutes if Barber is out. Gray was our top TE last year after Barber became ineligible. Offensive Line: B+ Tackle: A OT Joesph Green again anchors the line (72/75), and is only a junior. Bobby Payne (67/74) William Adkins (66/75) OG: B Michael Bradley (64/71) Lanny Crowell (64/67) Matthew Rahn (58/68) Wilbur Simmons (56/73) Center: C+ (Weakest link in run blocking on team) Joshua Miller (62/71) Roger Larsen (57/72) Franklin Frank (54/75) Defensive Line: C (I like strong lines, starting a 55 rated freshman is not a happy thing for me.) DE Matthew Merchant (60/63) Bruce Wilson (61/70) Rick Burt (59/69) DT Jeremiah Knowles (60/72) DT Jacques Diaz (55/70) DT David Richard (51/72) Linebackers: C+ Cornerbacks: C Free Safeties: B Strong Safety: A+ Jose Edwards (70/79) and 3 other good ones. Kicker: A Michael Casillias (72/77) is a strong-legged kicker who needs to improve his accuracy just a bit. Kevin "Chip Shot" Williams is rated (50/51) and will not get to kick anymore. Punter Charles Gorden (65/65) returns as well. We scheduled 2 bad teams, but then #2 Nebraska for a week 14 showdown. Our schedule now has at #2 Nebraska, and then the next week at home against #14 Colorado. Certainly we will earn BCS respect if we win those 2.
Ramfan77
Colorado State @ Ball State It is nice to get respect. We are 25 point road favorites. I am not sure we'll win by that much, as we have to get the bugs out of the new smashmouth offense. 1st Quarter 10:32 We get 55 yards, all on the ground, but we only get a field goal. 3-0 Rams. 8:05 Ball State gets a drive with 2 first downs, but loses the ball on a fumble by their QB. 4:01 4th-2 at their 19. We go for it, and Herman King gets 9 yards on the carry. 2:36 Davis to running back Travis Martin for a 10 yard TD pass. 10-0 Rams. :06 They actually have 65 total yards, and we only have 96, but we intercept them again here, and so we are keeping them off the board. 2nd Quarter 11:59 Travis Martin picks through a hole on 3rd-2 from their 24, and picks up 13 yards! I am very impressed with him so far. 10:37 We get a 10 yard TD pass to new TE Kip Campbell. 17-0 Rams. 2:32 Davis finds Cantu for a 57 yard TD pass. 24-0 Rams and we are going to easily cover the spread today. A blowout is in progress. :38 Converted CB Ronald Williams breaks free and returns a Ball State punt for a TD! 31-0 Rams now. :32 They then fumbled the kickoff, and we take over at the 8. 0:00 We kick a 20 yard field goal to take a 34-0 lead at halftime. We have outgained them 279 to 84 in total yards, and Davis is 12/13 for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns. Reyes has 13 carries for 49 yards and King has 6 for 27 as the running game has re-emerged for our team. 3rd Quarter 8:03 Reyes gets a 3 yard TD run. 41-0 Rams. We finish the game off winning 51-0! However, our top 2 QB's. Willis and Davis both sufferate moderate injuries in the game. Our running game was quite good. Reyes got 100 yards, and 2 running backs got touchdowns. We had 71 total carries on the ground for 241 rushing yards. We also had 44 minutes of time of possession which is total dominance. Ramfan77
Buffalo (0-0) @ Colorado State (1-0) We are only 12 point favorites for this game---but this is still going to be an easy one. 1st Quarter 3:52 Davis finally gets us in the end zone with a 12 yard pass to FB Edward Schaefer. XP is no good. 2:11 They miss a 46 yard FG. 2nd Quarter 12:43 Their kicker then blows a 46 yard field goal. This game would be tied if their kicker was accurate. 7:08 They down a punt at our 4. They are not making this game easy for us. 6:41 63 yard pass to Kip Campbell. This TE is starting off explosively in his first two games. 5:02 Our kicker is good from 32, and we lead 9-0! At halftime, we have 331 total yards--and only 9 points. Kip Campbell is also the new starting TE. Barber has been demoted, as Campbell has 8 catches for over 100 yards so far. 3rd Quarter 13:58 Gain of over 40 yards for Buffalo on the ground. 12:19 The Bulls are now 1/3 on field goals today. 9-3 Rams. 2:11 They get a 38 yard pass, and are in scoring range. :25 They down a punt at our 5 yard line. We now have 382 total yards, but few points. 4th Quarter 14:48 56 yard pass to Schaefer, and we are in scoring range. 12:28 The offense finally gets another score, as Reyes gets a 4 yard TD run. He is only running for 3 yards a carry, but got a big play there. We convert the 2pt play and lead 17-3! 9:09 Howard Davis to Adam Morin for a 28 yard TD pass. 24-3 Rams. :37 Davis is having a great 4th quarter, finding Johnny Cantu for a TD with less than a minute left. We are running up the score to punish Buffalo for keeping it close early. 31-3 Rams is the final score. Davis goes 36/41 481 yards 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. We are supposed to be a smashmouth offense--and we did run for almost 200 yards--but when the passing game is working that good--you have to go with it. Kip Campbell got 11 catches for 172 yards, no TD's, but still amazing for a tight end. At Wideout, Adam Morin got 7 catches for 107 yards and a TD! The defense was great too, and we couldn't be happier about the game. Ramfan77
Colorado State (2-0) @ TCU (2-1) This game is even in the line, and about even in the ratings as well. We are going to get a battle today. 1st Quarter 9:56 First big play, we pick off a TCU play and intercept them back to the 37. 7:37 Our good new kicker leaves a 49 yard try short. 3:51 They get down the field, but we pick them off in the red zone. If their QB wasn't getting intercepted, we would be down quite a bit. :52 Howard Davis throws a 48 yard pass to Herman King. We have 1st and Goal now. :12 Davis to Adam Morin gets the TD pass. 7-0 Rams. 2nd Quarter 11:42 TCU doesn't get picked off this time, and instead gets a TD. 7 all now. 3:03 We down a punt at their 4 yard line. :40 They go 96 yards for a TD. We are angry to let down like that at the end of the half. 3rd Quarter 9:26 37 yard completion for TCU and we are in trouble. 7:17 We hold them to a FG, but we are in trouble. 2:44 58 yard drive, largely on the ground, and we have hit an FG to counter theirs. 17-10. 4th Quarter They hit an FG early in the quarter to get back to a 20-10 lead. 12:19 Gain of 47 to none other than Kip Campbell. We have 1st and Goal now. 11:31 Herman King gets a short TD carry to reduce their lead to 3. We would not get another good shot--Davis shut down completing short passes and crap when we needed good passes. They would run down the clock and we lose 20-17. What a terrible loss. Ramfan77
Colorado State (2-1) @ Utah (2-1) This isn't the same Utah team that went to a title game last year, so we aren't too scared. Their running game is better than ours, but their QB who led them to the title shot is gone, and the new guy isn't that good. Their defense is actually weaker than ours, so we aren't too intimidated there either. However, we are 9 point underdogs, so this game would count as a nice upset if we pull it off. 1st Quarter 9:23 We get a crucial 3rd down conversion on our 12 play drive to get 1st and Goal. After 11 consecutive carries, we threw a 9 yard pass to Kip Campbell to keep our opening drive alive. 8:18 We come up short on 3rd and Goal, but they make a late hit on Davis, and the roughing the passer penalty extends the drive. 8:05 3 yard TD pass to Chas Robinson, and we lead 7-0! We get a nice 7 minute opening drive. 5:54 Our defender slips, resulting in a 72 yard TD pass for the Utes. 7-7. 2:43 Our supposedly awesome kicker blows it again, leaving a 52 yard effort short. :06 They fire back with a missed 46 yard effort, and we are still tied at 7 after 1 quarter. This game is even in almost every respect so far, except we are up in time of possession due to our running game--which has been good so far. 2nd Quarter 11:39 Michael Casillias hits from 50 yards out and re-earns some of my respect. 10-7 Rams. 10:07 48 yard Utah pass, and we are in trouble. 9:17 They add another quick passing TD. We need to stop big passing plays to win this game. 4:03 They convert a 4th-1 at midfield in a huge play--though it gained only 3 yards. Still, a good shot at momentum and a stop lost. 2:45 And a 22 yard TD pass makes it 21-10. I said the secondary was weaker going into this year--but I didn't know it was this bad. We are up 16 minutes to 11 in time of possession, and yet, we are in deep trouble on the scoreboard. 1:52 On 3rd-15, we get a 15 yard completion to Chas to avoid having to punt out of our own end zone. We want to avoid falling into a deeper hole before the end of the half. :49 A shanked 29 yard punt, and they get it at their 47. :28 Two sacks in a row for our D, and we keep them from scoring again in the half. :09 Gain of 44 to TE Ronald Barber (who has remained eligible) and we are at their 3 yard line. :00 Davis to FB Edward Schaefer for the 3 yard TD pass. What a HUGE turnaround in momentum for the Rams. We now trail by only 4 at halftime instead of 11 or possibly worse if they had scored again. 3rd Quarter 11:02 10 plays, 92 yards and another aerial TD for Utah, who is killing our secondary, and leads 28-17 now. 7:03 CB Ronald Williams returns their punt 35 yards and we start at midfield. 2:55 Howard Davis ends a long drive with a 15 yard TD carry off 3rd-2. The draw play completely fooled them, and Davis went crazy up the middle. 28-24 Utes now. We seriously considered going for 2--but their offense has been on today, and if they kick an FG--we would then need the 2pt play to tie the game. We will probably allow them to score again, so we just settle for the 1 point. 4th Quarter 12:?? They do score again, this time with a 45 yard field goal. 31-24 Utes. We are holding the ball a long time with our ground attack, but they score almost every time they touch the ball. Keepaway strategy doesn't work in the defense doesn't make plays. Utah has 422 total yards in only 21 minutes of ball possession. 10:07 We had to punt, but SS Jose Edwards quickly picks them off and we get it back. 6:37 3rd-7 at the 39. Howard remains calm, is flushed out of the pocket, and finds Chas open for a 12 yard grab. We are at their 27 now. 5:20 3rd-3 now, but Travis Martin picks up 5, and we are at their 15 yard line. 4:48 Gain of 10 for Joshua Reyes in his biggest run of the game, and we are at their 5. 4:02 Davis finds Chas Robinson for their 2nd TD hookup of the game, this one is a 3 yard TD pass. 31-31 tie now. 2:31 Gain of 10 on the ground, and their latest drive has crossed midfield. :52 16 yard TD pass for the Utes as our D crumbles again. 38-31, though we do still have 3 timeouts. :46 Gain of 55 wiped out due to ineligible receiver. That pretty much does it for our chances. :26 33 yard heave to Barber, and we are now in Hail Mary range from midfield. We would only advance 7 more yards before running out of time. Our offense was great. The rushing attack got 200 yards, Davis threw 3 TD's and no interceptions, but the defense was traiterous. Not just bad, or absymal, the defense might as well have put on Utes uniforms. I have never been more pissed by the lack of effort by my defense. This wasn't just a couple of mistakes--they didn't do anything right! :( :( :( :( After 4 games, Davis is throwing for 275 yards a game with 10 touchdowns and 1 interception. Yet, he is the leader of a 2-2 team. The defense is killing this team.
Ramfan77
Air Force (3-0) @ Colorado State (2-2) is the next matchup we face. We are 1 point favorites against this suprisingly good AF team. Air Force statistically has the #1 offense and #2 defense in the nation. However, both our offensive and defensive units are much better than theirs. Now we just need to play up to our talent and get stops on defense. We do that. 1st Quarter 9:08 We get a nice 6 minute drive to start the game and knock through a short field goal to take the early lead. 3-0 Rams. 7:36 48 yard pass for Air Force and they are threatening to score. 4:40 Their drive gets to the 10, but sacks back them up, and they accept a mid-range field goal to tie up the score. 3:05 3rd-10 from our 20. We call a reverse and Cantu explodes for 14! A nice tricky call there. :55 A bizarre 8 play 15 yard drive spanning 3 minutes ends in a punt for the Rams. 2nd Quarter 11:06 They get a long drive of their own and find the end zone through the air with their pretty good quarterback. 10-3 Falcons. 10:36 Kip Campbell drops a ball after a catch, and they pick up his fumble at our 36. 8:59 We get 2nd-25, and then they get passes of 17 and 12 yards. What the hell did the defense think the offense would be doing? Our defense is completely clueless now, with no enthusiasism and no hope. They can destroy any good situation they get into. 2nd-25 out of field goal range is now looking like a TD. 7:05 Well, the D does hold, and their kicker misses a 28 yard try. Luckily, we are playing Air Force, not a good team, so they manage to miss that kick, and not get a TD on 3rd-G from the 2, instead getting sacked. 6:01 Herman King is tired of the suffering and explodes for a 22 yard carry to get us past midfield. The Rams fans finally come to life. 2:12 Our drive misses a 4th-down conversion, and then their kicker fixes his earlier error with a connection from 48 yards out. Air Force outgains us by almost 100 yards and has 254 at the half. Is our defense really going to give up 500 yards?!? To an AFA team with no one rated better than 66 on offense?!?!? Why does my defense suck so badly? 3rd Quarter 13:05We shockingly get a 3 and out, and then our punt returner gets a nice one to midfield. 10:43 3rd-2 at their 30, but Schaefer falls through the hole and stumbles to pick up 2. 9:48 Gain of 16 for Davis and we have it down to the 11. 8:10 A holding penalty kills momentum, and we settle for a 34 yard field goal. 13-6 Falcons. 6:19 Another fantastic punt return, and we start at their 35. It seems my yelling at the defense worked, as they have 2 consecutive 3 and outs. The problem so far for the offense has been the passing game. We are getting 4.5 YPC, but Davis only has 82 yards on 11/19 passing. We need more than 7 yards a catch. 6:13 I take that back. Chas Robinson streaks open, and Davis finds him for a 35 yard strike. This game is tied at 13! 4th Quarter 14:25 We get back to field goal range and make our attempt, and we lead 16-13. 13:38 We intercept them quickly, but then Davis gets picked right back. But wait! Defensive holding is called on the play, and we instead get into field goal range on the play where Davis was picked. 12:43 Herman King fumbles it away, and this time, no penalty saves the ball. 9:06 42 yard gain for Howard Davis on the ground! We are in the red zone. 7:02 Davis fires a 1 yard TD pass to Chas Robinson on 3rd down to give us a 23-13 lead. 4:23 They punt. Our defense is suddenly playing like it should and the rejuvenated defense has crushed Air Force's chances in the 2nd half. 1:36 We add a 40 yard field goal. 26-13 Rams now. :56 Nice fast drive by the Falcons for a TD capped by a 36 yard pass. It is, however, too little too late. :03 We punish them for that TD by running up the score. They kick the onside, we recover, get in range, and then Davis finds Kip Campbell for a 4 yard TD pass. 33-20 Rams is the final. Ironically, Davis is the game's leading rusher with 72 yards (Reyes and King also got over 50 for us), but Davis did not lead the game in passing yards though he threw for 3 touchdowns. Davis now has an incredible 13 touchdowns to 1 interception ratio. He is playing almost perfect football--throwing for 65%+ completion rate and 200+ yards in every game this year. His Buffalo game with over 450 yards passing was incredible. If we can get a good half of defense, Davis will win the game for us.
