v1.5-Gamelog Enhancement

Recommended Posts

Arlie- The 1.5 update will offer a SIGNIFICANT increase/enhancement to the college football experience provided by BBCF! The new, yet to be revealed added feature will only be icing on a very good cake. And to top it all off...IT"S FREE! Many developers would market this as V2.0 and charge the full price of admission again with a lot less bang for the buck. Anyways...from "my" perspective, the gamelog enhancement is the best of the best. I approach BB from an avid micro-manager standpoint. I play with all the options enabled, spend a fair amount of time scouting opposing teams, trying to understand the strengths and weaknesses of my roster, and analyzing the post game reports. Naturally, I call each and every play of my games and never hit the AI suggest button. I'm a Joe Gibbs type of guy...not a Barry Switzer when it comes to coaching both my Fighting Illini and the Fighting Irish dynasties. Hmmm...? I suspect that I may be in the minority to my approach with BB, but your product appeals to different folks with different strokes. To me, the main part of the game(experience) is play calling. Yea, scouting, recruiting, etc. are factors that enter into the equation, but IMHO play calling is where the rubber meets the road and is decisive in my enjoyment of the sim. The gamelog enhancement will be a great help to me both while playing out the game and in the post game review phase. Previous to v1.5, I could only evaluate my play calling/game planning prowess by how well I "fooled"/out smarted my opponent. Did I catch him in a blitz when I called a draw or screen pass? Did I slant my DL in the right direction vs. my opponent's run? Unfortunately, this review would sometimes raise more questions than provide answers. I would call the correct play..."fool" my opponent but yet come away with a bad, less than expected result. Ie., call a run prevent defense where my DL overmatches my opponent's OL, and have their "average" RB break a simple inside run for +20 yards and wonder why. With 1.5, a good part of the mystery may now be explained. The OT pancaked my DE and the RB made a great run. Ah...now that is real life football at its best, not some suspect AI! And BTW, the opposite situation can apply where I "get away" with a bad play call on my part (ie., the AI does't always have it in for me:p ). I look foward to the gamelog enhancement as really being a more detailed post game FILM review session. Pre 1.5, I felt like a head coach getting the post game report slid under my office door by an assistant coach, but with no film to watch to fully understand the impacts. Now I'll be able to "see" the actual play and game setting when my CB missed a tackle or gave up a big play when I was in the absolute perfect defense. This for me will be a nice plus to a real life college football experience.

I am very excited for this to come about as well as it will add more dimension to the game like you were saying.. I would've been more than happy to pay for this patch. If there is a "SUPPORT ARLIE FUND" I'd be more than happy to add to it for this update.

I agree that this is a great feature, and I remember suggesting something like this back when Arlie was programming TDCB. It's all good and well to know that John Smith hit a three/completed a pass/whatever, but it'd be nice to know that he did it because a particular defender on your team blew his assignment.
