The Hoosiers of Indiana University have not won a big-10 title since 1967, and even that was only a co-championship. Since then, the Hoosiers have sucked badly. Now, they are a lowly 45 in prestige, and tied with Illinois and Northwestern for worst team in the conference. However, a young new coach has arrived in Bloomington, and I am ready to lead them out of the wilderness and back to the top of the big 10. We are expected to not finish last in the big 10 and be competitive this year. We *may* be able to do that. We don't get to play Illinois due to scheduling, but we do get Northwestern at home, and if we win that game, we can get 1 conference win and hopefully avoid last place. Besides that, we have scheduled 4 bad non-confernce teams, all winnable. So a 5 win season is quite possible. However, I will be taking the long-view. I don't see us being competitive for a conference titel for at least 10 years (prestige change set to high--or we may get kicked out of the Big 10 altogether--conf. change set to medium.) I won't be playing out the games until I feel I have a decent team. Right now, we have a decent offense but little available talent on defense.
Week 1 We play at Rice University, and win a strange looking 8-3 game. We were trailing 3-2 at halftime, but our kicker made a kick late in the 3rd quater to lead us to a 5-3 lead, and then another FG iced the game. Week 2 We go home and play an intra-state opponent. Sadly, Ball State beats us in a shocking OT defeat 13-10. We fall to 1-1 on the season in a game we should have had. Week 3 We were 12 point favorites against Florida International, but the offense failed to score a touchdown. Luckily--they did too. We pull out a 9-6 win. Our offense has been pathetic this year. Week 4 #20 Iowa comes to our house and demolishes us 45-3. We need a few years before competiting in these games.

52-45 Michigan State in our next game. We score a TD in OT, but they got 2 TD's in a wildly offensive game. With a better defense we win that game. Our offense should be good enough to win games, but the defense needs to improve a lot. Northwestern then crushes us 40-6 and we have no more winnable conference games and will at best win 3 games this year. A typical Indiana effort for the season--however I haven't touched recruiting/transfers yet. #12 Ohio State then crushes us 52-24. We are a BAD team now. #11 Wisconsin over us 44-6. These shouldn't even be called "games." What an embarrasement this Hoosier team is. Penn State (4-5) Then shuts down Indiana (2-7) 30-0. Not even a single point for our so-called "offense." IU wins the final game of the year 23-21 over Eastern Michigan to finish 3-9 (0-8). Maybe next year we'll be better. We weren't good at all, didn't even win all the non-conference games. --------- After a bad season last year, it was time for the offseason. I wasn't fired, and team prestige only fell by 1 point. We picked up 3 transfers, none phenomenoal but they are all good addittions. The recruiting class-we only had a few scholarships--was as good as it could have been hoped for--better than expected actually:
Indiana commits

Actually, looking at the roster now, we picked up a (61/80) DT transfer who will be a defensive star on this team. Anyway here is the slightly improved 2006 Indiana Hoosiers Roster: Oops, I missed the roster since I simmed the season but anyway we went 3-9 (2-6) beating both Illinois and Northwestern. However, the Board gave me an F after the season--will I be fired? No, but I had more trouble recruiting. I got a couple of transfers and then a much smaller recruiting class.
Indiana commits
We are projected to finish 9th in conference this year. We were picked 11th each of the last 2 years. Also, we feel that we have a good shot at an upset of an upper-tier Big 10 team this year (i.e. anyone except Illinois + Northwestern).

We shockingly go 6-6 (2-6) for the year, and while we get left out of the bowl picture, we do win 3 all big10 player awards and finally have a prestige boost for a change. We are back up to 44 after the season, and the team is excited about the future. We also finish in a tie for 8th in the Big 10, after finishin in the cellar the first two years. We get a nice budget increase $60,000 up to $1.85 million for the year. While we don't have that much money, we have hired more highly underpaid coaches. While our offensive coordinator is only ok, our D coordinator is one of the best in the game with good development for LB's and CB's and Best (blue) development for the defensive line. Also, the new Special Teams Cooridinator is good in development and scouting. Now we need good transfers and and a good recruiting class-especially at defensive line. Hopefully our potential at defensive line will turn a weakness on our team into a strength. ---------------- Transfers: OG Richard Price 54/70 OLB Steve Bennett 53/71 OT Pedro Nelson 52/72 SS Mario Stanley 49/71 Not a great class of transfers now, but now that we have good coaches, we can probably develop these players into stars. Recruiting: Up and down news: Down--DT Anthony Wade 64/75 JR goes pro. Ouch. We needed this guy as the core of our D-line. The best DT on our roster is rated 44 right now. We did get a new recruit at DT, but no 3-star DT's are interested in us, and only a couple of 2 stars are even 7+ Good: Look at what committed in week 12 alone:
Indiana commits
We are overall happy with this class + transfers. If they develop as well as they can with the good coaches, this is a competitive group of players. No superstars here, but a consistent level of talent came in. I especially like the JUCO WR and RB. I just wish we could shore up DT better. We will transfer at least one DE to DT to make that spot less of a sieve this year.

We are getting to be pretty good this year, and I will start coaching the team next year game-by-game. We win our first two games this year, including a 51-20 drubbing of Akron where Aaron Carney threw for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. We finally have a competitive team, and with 17 starters back next year, that will be a team worth playing out game-by-game. The so-called experts have us picked to finish dead last in conference, but this is our best team yet, and we tied for 8th last year. We went 3-0 to start our non-conf schedule, but #5 Michigan was quite different--as we lost there 44-7. We still need to improve--certainly--but we are a far better team than we used to be. Northwestern crushes us 51-23 in a game I thought we'd win and we fall to 0-3 in the Big 10, and having already lost against Michigan State, our only winnable Big 10 games left are Illinois and Purdue. Just as an interesting note--#1 Oregon State has won two straight national championships and it 7-0 this year and just dumped #4 USC 48-3. How the hell did they get so good so fast? Wow! We gave #5 Ohio State a run for their money. We trailed only 24-19 with 9 minutes left and the ball at midfield. Carney would turn it over, and they would get another TD to close it out 31-19, but we are a threat now. We nearly took out a 6-1 top 5 team with national title aspirations. I will be SO pissed if I get fired after this year, cause I have put together a great young team which will be much improved next year. We lose only 5 starters, and get 4 new transfers, 3 of whom will start next year. Plus, weak areas this year such as defensive line and offensive tackle will be much improved next year. We have a platoon of mediocre QB's to replace our current average QB---3 good RB's next year, a whole squadron of pretty good receivers, a vastly improved OL. On defense, the line will be improved, we don't lose much at linebacked, and Cornerback and Free Safety are two of the strongest positions on the team. While we lose our punter, our young kicker will be much improved. Please, Please, don't fire me. Indiana 41 Illinois 6 Another reason why I should stick around. It may be our only conference win, but it is a dominant win, and we are very proud of it. We can blow out some big 10 teams, and play within a 4th quarter TD of ranked teams. Carney has 2290 yards 21 Touchdown's and 9 Interceptions. Imagine what next year's QB (or QB's) will do with an improved line and more seasoned wideouts. Penn State 16 Indiana 14 We blow our last good chance at a bowl with this game. However, we were 10 point underdogs, and I was sure we would lose this game. However, we lead 14-13 with 3:28 left before they knocked through a 42 yard field goal to win the game. We nearly pulled an upset over a (6-5) Penn State team. While we got a poor record this year, the Hoosiers can be proud of this year's efforts. Florida International 17 Indiana 15 No touchdowns, no hope for the Hoosiers and we drop to 4-7. If they want to fire me--here is the good reason to do so. A complete meltdown in a game we should always win. A redzone touchdown in our 4 red zone opportunities, and we would have been 5-6 and have had a chance to go bowling if we manage to upset Purdue. #1 Oregon State finishes their regular season 10-1, but beat instate rival #22 Oregon 54-20. This Beaver team looks to repeat for a third straight year. Purdue beats us 32-21 and we finish 4-8 (1-7). This could be the end for me at Indiana. I think I did a good job, and the new coach will have a good team to play with, but I failed. We should have been able to go 6-6 with this team this year. If they keep me around, I guarantee 3 Big 10 wins for next year and a 7-5 record. 3 if I get Illinois and Northwesten on the schedule plus a beatable squad like Michigan State or Penn State #1 Oregon State's bid for 3 championships in a row starts well as they win their first playoff game against Marshall 62-10. It's over. Only two in a row for the Beavers as they fall to #8 Oklahoma State 21-20 on a last second TD pass. #3 USC rebounds from their only loss of the year against Oregon State and beats Oklahoma State 31-21 to take home the national championship. I got a D+ from the board, D's in everything in Talent, which is up to a C this year. Hopefully this is enough to keep my job. We can get a winning season next year if they keep me around. I fully believe in the current Hoosiers squad.

I get two transfers, both in the 50/70 range, one at TE, and one at DE, both areas of need. Now, 21 recruiting spots are available. We get 18 recruits-several of whom are quite good. In all, another good class for a school with 42 prestige. The ILB should be an amazing player for us.
Indiana commits
Now that they allowed me to keep my job, I must come through THIS YEAR. I think I have the squad that can pull it off though. Our offense is quite good--oh--and that TE I brought in is quite the find. I am so pleased to have brought in a 65 rated tight end. We get Illinois, Northwestern, and Michigan State in our Big 10 schedule as quite winnable games. Purdue is also a possibility. We will schedule a crap non-conference schedule and see what we can do.
Indiana @ UCF this week. We are 12 point favorites this week--and we should steamroll them. 1st Quarter 9:01 We start with a nice 13 play 6 minute drive before knocking through a 28 yard field goal. 3-0 Hoosiers. 2nd Quarter 13:31 Our offense has died down, and UCF finally responds with a field goal. Joshua Sims is only 5/11 for 36 yards to start the game for us. 8:57 TE Marvin Alvarez catches a 1 yard TD pass as we finally get in the end zone. Sims passed much better on that drive. 10-3 Hoosiers. 1:05 We lose a fumble at our own 19. :26 They they get a 23 yard TD pass. That fumble wasted our nice lead that we had going in the 1st half. 10-10 at halftime. 3rd Quarter 11:17 Their 88 yard drive ends with a 30 yard TD pass and they lead 17-10. 6:00 Shocking! We had a 24 yard drive going and were just into field goal range when FB Eddie Marshall lost the ball, and they picked up the fumble and took if 70 yards for a TD. 24-10 UCF. 4th Quarter We are up 300-191 in total yards but need points which we aren't getting. 14:23 72 yard TD pass for UCF and we are screwed. 31-10 UCF. 13:26 Joshua Sims is intercepted. I don't know how we lose a game that we were supposed to win by such a wide margin. 11:08 They get a 2 yard TD run and lead 38-10. A last second drive would get us a field goal with 2 seconds left. 38-13 UCF as the Golden Knights embarrased us.
Indiana: 13, Central Florida: 38

I managed to lose the summary of this game. The summary is that Sims throws 4 first half TDs and has a lot of fun passing to Frank Jones and we roll over the Illini.
Illinois: 3, Indiana: 31

I managed to lose the summary of this game. The summary is that Sims throws 4 first half TDs and has a lot of fun passing to Frank Jones and we roll over the Illini.
Illinois: 3, Indiana: 31

Next: A substantilaly stronger Wisconsin team. This is no Illinois game part 2 and we are 13 point home underdogs. The #19 ranked Badgers are 3-1 and are FAR better than we are. We deserve to lose this game by double digits based on talent alone. Even the weak parts of their team are as good as our strong areas. 1st Quarter 9:27 They got to our end zone quickly, but we intercepted them to keep them out of the end zone. :40 They get a 1st and Goal at our 3, but we turn them back and they get only a field goal. 3-0 Badgers after 1 quarter--they have outgained us in total yards almost 3 to 1, but the defense is holding strong. 2nd Quarter 9:27 A sack scores them a safety and they lead 5-0. Their defense has been amazing so far limiting us to 52 total yards so far. :11 They knock through a field goal as they finally get more points from their pretty good first half offense. 8-0 Badgers at the half. 169 Badger total yards versus our 81--the majority of our 81 actually came on the ground. Oh, and Sims has 13 pass attempts and has been sacked 5 times--not good for a mobile QB. 3rd Quarter 9:29 46 yard TD pass and the Badgers are putting this out of reach. 15-0 them now. 6:12 Sims intercepted at midfield and we lose a good opportunity. 2:42 They knock through a field goal to lead 18-0. No first downs for us in the 3rd quarter and Sims is 6/18 for 41 yards today. We will be using a new QB in the 4th quarter. 4th Quarter 13:35 They've taken a strange path to get here--but they now lead 21-0 after making another FG. 7:42 The new QB Ricky Sanders leads us on a TD drive with a 10 yard flip to FB Eddie Marshall. 21-7 Badgers. Sanders was better but it was too little to late.

North Texas (2-2) @ Indiana (2-2) We are 13 point favorites and should clean up in this game, though we lost a game we should have won earlier this year. Sims will still be starting at QB in spite of the weak Wisconsin game. 1st Quarter 8:38 Mejia gets a 5 yard TD run for us so we lead 7-0. A 31 yard TD pass to Contreras set up the TD. 4:01 Sims to Sanchez for the 1 yard TD pass and we lead 14-0. We are off to a great start. 2nd Quarter 13:28 Dale Espinal misses a 47 yard field goal, but we are still feeling good about the direction of the game. 7:34 Espinal makes it this time from 42 yards out and we lead 17-0. 3:53 We intercept them for the 2nd time, this time at our 13, and we keep them off the scoreboard. 2:52 55 yard pass to Contreras and we are again in field goal range before the end of the half. 1:19 43 yard effort for Dale Espinal and we will lead 20-0 at the half with a dominating start to this game. 3rd Quarter 8:22Matthew Mejia catches a 40 yard pass from Joshua Sims and we win 27-0. 6:31 In a bizarre play, their QB is picked off again, and CB Thomas Thompson has 4 interceptions today--their QB has thrown 6. Thomas has 8 interceptions through 5 games so far, and also picked off 3 against Illinois, Thomas has 80 coverage skills which have been on display today. 4:55 Espinal hits a mid-range field goal and we lead 30-0. No more commentary on this one--we win this one easily. With 51 seconds left, CB Thomas Thompson intercepts his 5th pass of the day. That has to be a record, right? They made a bit of a 4th quarter push, but we comfortably closed it out 33-17. Mejia was a dominant running back today with 39 carries for 141 yards. CB Thompson single-handedly turned the game with all the turnovers, and his record is something to be proud of--and UNT needs to get a better quarterback.
North Texas: 17, Indiana: 33

Michigan State (2-4) @ Indiana (3-2) They have a talent advantadge over us, but it is not huge and we are only 9 point underdogs. This will be a tough but winnable game. 1st Quarter 9:42 They strike first using good field position to get a field goal. It was due to a nice punt return that got them in position. 7:42 CB Thomas Thompson intercepts ANOTHER pass, his 6th in 5 quarters, and we have the ball near midfield. 5:20 Sims is picked at their 35. So far defenses are doing well today. 3:07 Or not. They take over off the turnover and go straight down the field going 64 yards ending with a 31 yard TD pass. 2nd Quarter Mejia has 9 carries for 70 yards so far, this is a promising sign that we can control the line against their weak front 4. 13:04 Dale Espinal hits a 39 yard field goal. Sims is cold today, so we may see a new QB in. Mejia is doing excellently today, however. 9:39 They drive down the field and make a field goal of their own. 13-3 Spartans. 6:24 Someone other than Thompson intercepts a pass--and FS Richard Taylor returns it 65 yards for a TD. What a spark and we trail only 13-10. 3:55 It only takes them 6 plays to go down the field and get a TD. 20-10 Spartans. Our defense has been weak against the ground AND the air. 3rd Quarter 12:07 The game is now almost out of reach after another quick strike through the air TD play for Michigan State. 9:10 QB Henry Waggoner got us down the field into field goal range before he got intercepted. 1:29 Dale Espinal makes a short field goal to get this back to a two possession game. 4th Quarter 13:15 They get a 52 yard TD pass, and our battered secondary has failed one too many times and we will lose this game. 34-13 Michigan State. They end up taking it 44-16. RB Matthew Mejia played well for us, but we needed more through our aerial attack. Also, allowing their QB to throw for over 250 yards in the first 3 quarters of the game is no good. Indiana: 16, Michigan State: 44

---------- I have decided that when this is the level of competiton we can put up--I need to sim farther into the future. I need to build a better team than this--I though we could be competitve this year, however, I was wrong. Even a sub-par Michigan State team can blow us out handily. We do blow out New Mexico in the next game to get a nice 41-0 win. However, when we are also losing games to the likes of UCF, we aren't ready for the Big 10. #23 Iowa (11 point favorites) kills us 43-17. Did I give up on this team too soon? We pull a shocking upset of Minnesota 38-30 with Sims throwing 4 TD's and Thompson getting another key INT to seal the win. We are at 5-4 and have a winnable Northwestern game left. #5 Michigan said no to our upset hopes shutting us out 37-0 at home in Bloomington. Purdue and Northwestern remain on the schedule. Northwestern edges us out 30-24. However, Illinois lost 52-0 to Ohio State to finish off their perfect 0-11 season. So at least we aren't in the cellar of the Big 10. CB Thomas Thompson wins 1st-team all-american for his amazing 12 interception season (and 2 TD's.) True-freshman QB Joshua Sims also won Big 10 Freshman of the year. I got a C- overall for they year--however key C's in Board Expectations and Prestige.

We get no transfers--though there were a few interested. I hope to get some next year--they are a key source of quality players for our team--or at least they were. And here is the poor recruiting class:
Indiana commits
---- It'd be a lie to say I'm more hopeful about this year's team than last year's, but our highly paid coaches seem to do a good job of turning mediocre recruits into solid players. We are off to a 2-3 start, both non-conf wins. However, the losses have been painful (32-17 at UCF--why does this 32 prestige team keep beating us (42 prestige for us?) At Iowa we lose 38-35 in OT, and 31-24 against Michigan State. We are on the verge of winning big games now. We get both the Big 10 games, and we could go 3-5 in conference this year (no Illinois game on our schedule, so no win there.) We then are stunned against Northwestern 13-7. We now have no hope for this season, and it appears recruiting and transfers will be worse next year than this year. Ouch! Indiana and Illinois would tie for badness as they went 0-11 and we are 2-9 (0-8). An epic disaster of a season as we go 2-10 (0-8). I again expect to lose my job.
