Born / Raised in Detroit Rock City !!!! Well in the suburbs about 20 miles north , noone in their right mind lives IN the city. But hey Detroit has 3 new casino's operating that gives the city goveremnt a weekly cut of about 1 mil dollars but still the city is in rubbles and falls even deeper into the pit of hell....LOL
Haha, I was about to say something that could be perceived as a racist comment, but I've thought better of it. I'm in the western suburbs myself. It's not a pretty picture in the city. This area has a few GDSers...there's another member (who hasn't posted in this thread yet) that's in the exact same city as me.

South Eastern Cornwall, England. Although currently living/working in Plymouth, England.
Lappeenranta, Finland born, raised, gone to schools and started a family of my own. For those 99% of users who don't know where it is, it's in southeastern Finland right next to the Russian border.
I would've thought somewhere with a name like Lappeenranta would be in the North?

You don't want to mess with the Finnish language :) it's not an easy one...
Can you see Sarah Palin from it?
Not quite :) just a ****load of russian tourists.

And on a serious note... I'm currently living in, and was born and raised in, Houston, Texas. For the most part, I like it here. I wish it'd snow more, but the Southern atmosphere (including a delightful abundance of thunderstorms) is something I'd know I'd miss if I ever moved away. Heck, I start missing it anytime I travel for more than a week. Except in Aruba... tropical paradise with free spirited Dutch girls (you're a lucky bastard, Hyde Hill) running around on the beach made me remember that soon I'd, once again, be forced to mingle with the "denizens" of my local Walmart... That said, I've heard from people who have been to both that Australia has a similar vibe to the Southern US, particularly Texas. Plus is has wallabies. Of course, no coyotes (dingoes aren't up to par with coyotes).

Is it true that Houston is weird looking architecturally? When I was in college I had an Urban Planning class and the professor said that Houston was weird looking because your zoning laws were different from the rest of the country.

Heck, wouldn't mind living there someday. But yeah, I guess it is a bit... odd... looking, in some regards. One of our skyscrapers looks like the building from the first Ghostbusters, and another has this fun (I've heard Dutch) "staggered" design to it, with three seperate peaks on it (each taller than the next). As for our zoning laws having a factor... no clue, never had to mess with them and its not exactly a subject I find fascinating enough to go look up for funs.

The River Walk with all those bars and restaurants, really gives the city an awsome night life. I do have to complain about the fact that the Spurs play out in the middle of nowhere.
