Ring of Honor 2007 and Beyond

OOC: My California diary is dead now I have 07, not sure on indymania, whether punker wants to keep that going or whatever. As for singles projects, despite the data not being finished for T-Zone 2007 ROH is pretty much done and that is how come I’ve ended up choosing them to do my first TEW 2007 diary on. I feel they have interesting times coming up with Homicide just winning the title and such. I’m going to pull no “Cary killed my Uncle so he gave me the head bookers job to bribe me” or any other **** and bull story its just ROH being booked and me documenting it.
History In April 2001, professional wrestling video distribution company RF Video was in need of a new promotion to lead its video sales after Extreme Championship Wrestling, their best seller, went out of business. At the time, RF Video also filmed events held by other less popular regional wrestling promotions and sold them through their catalogue and website. RF Video owner Rob Feinstein decided he would fill the void left by ECW by starting his own promotion and distributing the DVD and VHS productions exclusively through RF Video. The first event, dubbed "The Era of Honor Begins" was held on February 23, 2002, and featured a contest between Eddie Guerrero and Super Crazy, a triple threat main event match between the early mainstays of ROH, Christopher Daniels, Bryan Danielson and Low Ki and seven other matches. In the early stages Ring of Honor was seen as somewhat of an Indy Dream promotion with less emphasis on angles as such in favour or just good athletic contests. In its first year of operation, ROH confined itself to a limited amount of venues and cities in the northeast United States. Ten shows were run in Philadelphia, PA, two were held in the Greater Boston area of Massachusetts, one was held in the Pittsburgh, PA area, and one, the One-Year Anniversary Show, was held in Queens, NY. In 2003, ROH expanded to other areas of the United States, including Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maryland and began to build its international identity by co-holding an event with Frontier Wrestling Alliance in Liverpool, England. ROH has continually expanded its presence on the United States and international independent wrestling scenes, holding events in more mid-western states, revitalizing its UK connections and routinely importing stars with international appeal. In 2004, the primary owner of ROH, Rob Feinstein, was caught in a sting operation when he tried to solicit sex from a minor. It was announced that Feinstein and ROH had severed their ties, but Feinstein was still involved with the company until June 2004. As a result, Total Nonstop Action pulled AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, both TNA contracted wrestlers, from all Ring of Honor shows. Feinstein's ownership was eventually sold, and ROH soon began to produce and sell their shows through their website, along with other promotions' products. The current owner of ROH is Cary Silkin. Once Feinstein left ROH slowly introduced more and more storylines and actual angles with build up as such into its shows. A small percentage was against this as they felt ROH was becoming too mainstream by using angles and such. On the whole the change was for the better and has helped ROH grow more and more into what we know of today. They recently began running at the famous Manhattan Centre in New York City where WWE (then WWF) used to host their Monday night RAW show weekly.

The Code of Honor Ring of Honor was initially targeted at smark wrestling fans who were fed up with the "sports entertainment" aspect of World Wrestling Entertainment (that is, the constant distractions from actual wrestling, and the over-the-top endings to matches). The primary way of doing this was the institution of the "Code of Honor", a set of rules that dictated how wrestlers were supposed to act. Initially, there were five "Laws of Honor" in the Code of Honor, which were mentioned at some point during every ROH home video release. It was considered a "moral requirement" to follow these rules. They were (usually in this order): 1. You must shake hands before and after every match. 2. No outside interference - no interfering in others' matches or having others interfere on your behalf. 3. No sneak attacks. 4. No harming the officials. 5. No purposefully disqualifying oneself; definitive winners by pinfall or submission were expected. The Code of Honor, especially the first three rules, was used principally to help heels get over. The first rule was especially applicable to Christopher Daniels, who was pushed as the promotion's first major heel, who did not believe in the Code of Honor and refused to shake hands with anyone. The fourth and fifth rules were to emphasize ROH's finishes, the vast majority of which resulted in clean pins, submissions, or knockouts. On the rare occasion that a match did end with outside interference, a ref bump, or other traditional heel tactics, it was met with a much more visceral reaction from the fans than would be seen elsewhere in the wrestling world. In the early days of the promotion, it was even suggested that getting disqualified in a match may lead to that wrestler never appearing in ROH again. In early 2004, ROH's booker, Gabe Sapolsky, began to feel that the Code of Honor had run its course. Wrestlers were no longer required to follow the Code of Honor, allowing for more explosive and over-the-top match finishes, which were accepted at that point due to the stars the promotion had established and the fans it had won. The Code of Honor eventually re-appeared, diminished, as three rules: 1. Shake hands before and after the match, if you have respect for your opponent. 2. Keep the playing field level. 3. Respect the officials.

Contenders to Championships Originally, Ring of Honor had no formal way to determine challengers for the World Championship. When Xavier, a heel champion, began to avoid challengers, ROH instated a Top Five Ranking system to establish contenders to the title. Wrestlers were ranked based on their general win-loss record and the win-loss record against other ranked competitors. The World Champion was automatically placed at the top of the rankings. Wrestlers ranked two through five would face each other in the ring to determine the number one contender. The top contender held the Number One Contender Trophy. The ranking system was abolished at the same time as the creation of the new Code of Honor. The ranking system was replaced by the Contenders Ring, a more complex polling system where ROH officials would submit rankings after each show. Wrestlers who appeared on more than 75% of the ballots were considered to be in the Contenders Ring, which earned them title shots for both the World Championship and the Pure Championship. In 2005, Ring of Honor did away with the Contenders Ring. Instead, wrestlers who wanted a title shot had to submit a petition to ROH officials. After a petition was filed, ROH officials would keep track of the petitioner's record, quality of opposition, respect shown towards the Code of Honor and inherent skill. These factors determined who would receive a title shot. Despite the petition system, ROH officials retained the ability to determine #1 contenders. Upon the naming of Jim Cornette as ROH Commissioner, ROH Management confirmed the return of the Top Five Ranking system. The Top 5 was voted on by Cornette and ROH officials during the first week of every month only. Voting was based on won/lost record and quality of opposition with a heavy emphasis on the previous month. In June of 2006, Ring of Honor again put the Top 5 Ranking system on hiatus as the system had not been used to determine challengers to the ROH World Title on a consistent basis. The champion, Bryan Danielson, had instead been sending open contracts to wrestlers in other promotions around the world, while ROH officials would choose contenders from within the company.

The Current Situation Throughout 2006 Bryan Danielson ran rampant over all of the roster as well as anyone else that decided to challenge him including Kamala. Danielson wore the ROH World title with pride as well as unifying it with the Pure Title after a gruelling series of matches with Nigel McGuinness and even defended for a long period with a severely injured shoulder. Eventually on the last show of 2006 aptly named “Final Battle” we saw that it was indeed Danielson’s final battle of his title reign as he was pinned for the one, two, three by the home town hero Homicide. Homicide himself has not been short of problems in recent times and it was evidenced at Final Battle that his feud with Adam Pearce and his lackey Shane Hagadorn was far from over despite Homicide overcoming Pearce inside a steel cage on December 9. Elsewhere in ROH, Jimmy Rave seems to be on somewhat of a hot streak with his new Ankle lock variation forcing Nigel McGuinness to tap twice as well as BJ Whitmer to pound the mat with his hand. Samoa Joe is currently on a one man mission to destroy the Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH and will face a representative from NOAH on February 16th although at this time it seems that representative may be Nigel McGuinness. At the final two shows of the year we also saw the debut of Chris Hero’s “Super Agent” Larry Sweeney as he forced Hero to turn his back on Claudio Castagnoli his long time partner. Claudio is certain to want revenge on Hero and Sweeney but with Sweeney being the “Super Agent” he is he may just bring in more clients to help in the fight against Claudio. In addition there is much more going on including the more and more Emo by the day Jimmy Jacobs and his saga with Lacey which now includes her personal Hire Assassin Brent Albright and much more. ROH Newswire for January Week 1 2007 Happy New Year from all of us here at the ROH Offices, we hope you had a great new year and to celebrate the new year we are instigating a 3 for 2 offer on all ROH events, FIP events and Straight Shooting series DVD’s. With some huge titles coming out recently now is the time to pick them up including “The Bitter End” featuring the all out war between Homicide and Steve Corino with a surprise conclusion. We are only weeks away from the first shows of 2007 in Braintree and Edison respectively and we have more matches added this week to those events as well as news and information on other up and coming Ring of Honor events. The Friday night in Braintree will already see Homicide make his first defence against Chris Hero, a huge 2 out of 3 falls match between Aries and Strong and The Briscoes and a special challenge for Rocky Romero as he returns to face Davey Richards. Just added to this big event is an inter-gender tag contest that promises to be a cracker as Jimmy Jacobs and Lacey go up against Colt Cabana and Daizee Haze. There is no love lost between these two teams and it will be interesting to see what develops. In addition to this just announced for Braintree is a four corner survival that could propel the winner to a title shot in the not too distant future as BJ Whitmer, Delirious, one half of the Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Ricky Reyes face off. The next night in Edison if Homicide is still champion he will take on Samoa Joe for the title, if Chris Hero is the champion then Joe will still face Homicide and get a shot at Hero at a later date. Speaking of Hero he will have his hands full in Edison as he and Claudio Castagnoli face off in a Dream Partner tag team encounter. Neither man has revealed their partner but Larry Sweeney has said he will use all of his power as a Super Agent to get only the best on Team Hero. Another huge match signed for Edison will see the ever rising Jimmy Rave go up against BJ Whitmer. Can Rave add another victim to the list of tapping out to his new Ankle Lock variation or will Whitmer bring the former Embassy Crown Jewel down with his Exploder. Don’t forget to check out ROHVideos.com where we have just uploaded a special message from Samoa Joe to Homicide ahead of their title match this Saturday. If Homicide manages to make it part Chris Hero, Samoa Joe and Jimmy Rave unscathed then he will put the belt on the line in our debut at the Windy City Fieldhouse in a Fight without Honor against Adam Pearce. The night before in Dayton Pearce and Homicide will be on opposite teams in a six man tag that incorporates more than one feud. It’ll see Homicide team with Colt Cabana and BJ Whitmer to face off against Pearce, Brent Albright and Jimmy Jacobs. When we hit the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in mid February if Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels manage to survive their match the night before against Austin Aries and Roderick Strong they will defend the tag team title against The winner of the match between the Briscoe Brothers and the Havana Pitbulls in Edison. Negotiations are ongoing for some major international talent to appear in Ring of Honor at our Detroit double shot, keep your eyes peeled for more news on this in coming weeks and months. In next weeks newswire we will have more info on all of the upcoming events and more

ROH Newswire for January Week 2 2007 With the Braintree/Edison double shot right around the corner another match has been added to each of these already stacked nights. In Braintree one half of the tag team champions Christopher Daniels will go one on one with one of the fastest rising stocks in Ring of Honor today, Jimmy Rave. The following night Rave faces Whitmer, these two matches could be paramount to Rave’s preparation for his title shot in Manhattan against Homicide or whomever the champion may be at that time. Added to Edison the following night is a special challenge between two people who have not long been in Ring of Honor but are making a big impression already. The former M-Dogg 20 Matt Cross will go one on one with Brent Albright. The person who wins this will surely skyrocket up in the estimation of Ring of Honor management. In Braintree we are all set to see one final match to decide the better team once and for all between The Briscoe Brothers and Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. This promises to be an amazing athletic contest with either team capable of winning it. One thing to take into consideration however is just how capable after a gruelling match the night before will The Briscoes be against the re-united Havana Pitbulls. This could be a great opportunity for Ricky and Rocky to get right back on the tag title trail. A special SHIMMER showcase has been added to the start of the Fifth Year Festival Manhattan Centre event as well as the following night at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory. Manhattan will get to see Allison Danger go one on one with possibly the best female wrestler in the United States in Cheerleader Melissa whilst the next night Melissa will team with Lacey to take on Allison and Daizee Haze. To get a taste of just what these women can do you should purchase one of the SHIMMER DVD’s from our shop. Volumes 1-5 are already out with 6 coming out later this month. More talent has been added to the two night UK double shot with Jimmy Rave, The Briscoe Brothers, Homicide, Chris Hero and Samoa Joe all currently pencilled in as certainties. Don’t forget to check out the newswire next week as we officially announce the partners of Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli for Edison as well as give an update on the current status of both Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness. ROH Newswire for January Week 3 2007 As promised we will begin by giving the current status of two of the most popular Ring of Honor stars, one is good news whilst the other is bad. The good news is that Bryan Danielson seems set for a comeback sometimes during the month of April. He is disappointed that he cannot be at the shows in Detroit over the Wrestlemania weekend but wants to make sure he is at 100% for his return to try and take back the Ring of Honor title from Homicide or the person who is holding it at the time of return. The bad news is that Nigel McGuinness may not be seen back in Ring of Honor for a while, two days ago working for Pro Wrestling NOAH in a six man tag he took an awkward fall to the outside. Nigel shattered six bones in his left leg and could be on the shelf for a long time. This will be good news for Jimmy Rave as Nigel seemed out for blood on the former Embassy member. As far as the Pro Wrestling NOAH challenge on Samoa Joe, Nigel has said he is still in talks with officials whilst over in Japan but he feels that there will certainly be someone takes up Joe’s challenge. The return to Ring of Honor of Canadian sensation Kevin Steen has been pencilled in for the start of the Fifth Year Festival in Manhattan as Steen will get a huge opportunity to prove himself going up against the breakout star of 2006 Davey Richards. Speaking of the Fifth Year Festival, during the Chicago leg of the set of shows Colt Cabana and Jimmy Jacobs will settle their score once and for all as face of in a Chicago Street Fight. With Homicide already pencilled in for a Fight without Honor on this night against Adam Pearce we are certainly guaranteed a pair of heated matches. Speaking of Colt Cabana he has been chosen by Claudio Castagnoli as his partner to face off with Chris Hero’s team at the Inman Sports Club in Edison. Claudio has told ROH Officials of his respect for Colt both in and out of the ring and feels he is the ideal partner to take down team Hero no matter who Hero has up his sleeve. We can now reveal exactly who Hero has, after a long phone call between Larry Sweeney and Ring of Honor offices we can announce that Chris Hero has announced his partner, his hired assassin, his hitman to be none other than Gran Akuma. For those unfamiliar with Akuma he is a graduate of the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory and this is not the first time that Hero has had him do his bidding. Employing some brutal strikes he is certainly better to have with you than against you. Added to Braintree we will see Claudio Castagnoli go up against Matt Cross in what promises to be a great match. More news next week as we will be just days away from Ring of Honor’s first in ring action of 2007.

Oh right thanks, irrelevant now tho :( Sadly this diary IS dead, went to load the save up today and it had totally gone, last time i had this save open it was pretty late, must of accidentally clicked the wrong cross to close it down and somehow it broke and ended up deleted, the file isnt even in my Save Games folder, its like it was totally wiped from my computer, probs my own stupid fault if like i said i accidentally clicked the wrong close button. Just for therecord Jimmy Rave was taking the strap from Cide as i cant be bothered to redo all the events, hire people i did and such again. so this is dead I seem ill fated with ROH diaries i had the one on .400 that everyone loved and lasted years game time using TEW04 then since then every ROH diary i start corrupts or something. Well, maybe another CZW or IWA Mid South diary might be in the offing, we'll see
Same sort of thing happened to me recently , but don't give up. I don't normally follow real-world diaries, but I'm an ROH fan in real-life and would definately follow this, as it would be interesting to see how you would book the promotion, even though in real life I think it's the best booked promotion in North America by miles.
