4C - Canadian wrestling on the rise!

Recommended Posts

December 2006, Christmas Day I was sitting at home on Christmas morning, barely recovering from a well-spent holiday full of drinking and turkey, when the telephone rang. I answered the phone, and was surprised to hear the voice of my uncle, Troy Winner. I hadn't heard from Troy in a few years, as he was always busy running his wrestling promotion, Canadian Charisma Championship Combat, or 4C for short. "Jake my boy, I hope you aren't mad at your uncle for not getting you anything for Christmas these past few years," he said with a chuckle. "But I'll definitely make it up to you with a huge one today. First, let me ask you a question! Do you still have your hobby of going online and doing fantasy wrestling bookings?" "Every once in a while, yeah. Only for pretty big shows like WrestleExtravaganza in March and the like." "That's my boy, I always knew you had an open mind for the business. Well listen, I have a little dilemma here. Business has been slowing down for me lately, and I'm in need of a mind like yours to throw out some fresh ideas and see about turning things around! You interested?" I paused to pick my jaw up off the floor. "Are you for real?" I asked. "I'm dead serious Jake, we need all the help we can get right now." "Yeah then, count me in." "Excellent! That's what I like to hear! Listen, take it easy, enjoy your holidays. In the new year, I want you to make the drive down here to Ontario and we can get to work alright?" "I'll let you know when I'm on the way down, Troy." I said as I hung up the phone. I couldn't believe it. I've always wanted to book a wrestling promotion, and now I just had the best Christmas present I could ever ask for, as my dream would be coming true. It pays to have family connections!

Tuesday, Week 1, January 2007 I arrived in Ontario this afternoon and right away set up a meeting with Troy to see what my role with the company would be. He let me know that my role would be head booker for a minimum one year time period, and that I would lose my spot if I caused the company funds to drop below $20,000. I was also asked to make sure I didn't bring in any workers who were 'past their prime' as Troy put it. He didn't want to see anybody over 42 years of age being hired. We had only been talking for about five minutes when two of 4C's workers entered the room. Jacob Jett and Darryl Devine both mentioned to Troy they had been offered big time contracts with bigger promotions, and chances are they'd be taking them. After they left, Troy looked at me. "See? That's what I mean. Now I'm probably losing two guys I had planned to build the promotion around, and it's only the start of the new year!" I sat silent for a minute thinking. "Alright, here is what I propose. Considering our budget is only $80,000, we need to shorten event lengths for now. I say we drop it from two hours to one hour, and jam pack that one hour with action. This way we don't have to pay as many workers per event. And considering that CGC has a hold on Western wrestling and NOTBPW has a hold on the East coast, we should start building up 4C where it all began, sticking within Ontario for now. We're losing money putting out DVD sales, so we'll stick with releasing footage on the Internet as well to build up a fan base around the country. Once we know we're more established, we can break out of Ontario and start touring across Canada." Troy looked at me in complete shock. "My boy, I knew I made the right decision. You are a complete genius! I'll leave you be now, start getting to work planning our upcoming event!"

Sunday, Week 1, January 2007 Jacob Jett came in today and gave me his official 7 day notice. He had signed a written contract with NOTBPW. I wished him the best of luck in his future endeavors, as he really is an outstanding talent. No sooner had he left than Darryl Devine came in to tell me that he had taken CGC up on their offer, but only on a PPA deal. He claimed to be loyal to the company he started out in, and wanted to stick around to help us rise to the top. I told him I appreciated that and he would be rewarded justly for his loyalty. Monday, Week 2, January 2007 The next day day, I went around town, posting up fliers for our first event of 2007, 4C Presents...Cage Rage... "4C Presents...Cage Rage! Monday, Week 4, January 2007 Live tonight, in the venue where it all began, 4C Presents...Cage Rage from the Windsor Arena Hall in Ontario, Canada! We have three action-packed steel cage matches for Canadian wrestling fans tonight! Our opening bout will be fought under escape match rules, where there can only be a winner when one man escapes the cage. Our two title bouts tonight however, will be fought under classic rules, where the winner will be decided by pinfall or submission! Let's get right to the action! Opening contest: vs Air Attack Weasel vs Too Hot This match totally bombed. The two competitors were restricted, as both men tend to prefer high-flying styled matches, and were forced into a brawling contest inside the cage. Air Attack Weasel picked up the victory by escaping the cage at 7:36 after blasting Too Hot with a missile dropkick to keep him down. Too Hot looked a little worse for wear near the end of the match. (F+) 4C Tag Team Championship Steel Cage Match vs Phenomenal Excess vs Thug Life This turned out to be an all-out, fast-paced violent war. All four men ended up busted open in truly brutal cage spots, but the finish came when Phenomenal E pinned Hardcore Killah at 10:37 following a Tumbleweed Legdrop. Phenomenal Excess pull out the upset victory against the odds against the grizzled street veterans to make their first Tag Team Championship defence. (E+). with a post-match assault on Following the match, as Phenomenal Excess have their hands raised in exhaustion, Sayeed Ali emerges from the crowd with a chair and attacks both men. Thug Life finally crawl out of the cage, and all of 187 proceed to beat the champs down for five minutes. (F) 4C Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match vs Joey Poison vs Barry Kingman Our main event of the evening went back-and-forth, and featured several nearfalls. After twenty minutes of back-and-forth action, Joey Poison caught Kingman in the Antidote Web out of nowhere for the win at 20:51 to retain the 4C Championship. (E+) Following the match, Joey Poison approached Barry Kingman and offered his rival his hand as a sign of respect. Kingman took him up on the offer, shaking his hand and then raising his arm as the victor before leaving the ring as Poison celebrated. (E-, Joey Poison makes a Face turn). Final Rating: E Attendence: 184 Following the show, I decided to check out if there was any internet buzz surrounding our show. This is what I found... "The feedback for Cage Rage has been mixed, although most tend to agree that for a small company, they're doing OK." Hmm. Not bad I guess. Still, I knew I could do better than this. I had made several mental notes on what worked and what didn't, and looked forward to drastically improving for our next event in February.

Saturday, Week 4, January 2007 I hired a young Canadian indy star today, Valentine. He agreed to a nine-month PPA deal to work under the name Romeo Romaro. We spoke about possible gimmick ideas, and I've decided to play to his arrogant persona by giving him an ultra campy "loverboy" shtick, and gave him Jacob Jett's girlfriend, Katie Cameron as a manager. I figured I'd do something with her since he left the company. I'm planning on bringing in one more worker to pair up with Romaro to bolster our tag team division. Monday, Week 1, February 2007 I looked over our Finances today, and we look to be in good shape after our first month with me booking. We began with $80,000 and now were sitting on $79,270. I had only lost $730! Not bad at all I thought to myself, considering Cage Rage didn't even go over as well as I'd hoped. There's nowhere to go but up from here on out! Friday, Week 1, February 2007 I made another hiring today, this time a young worker just entering the world of professional wrestling by the name of Cameron Vessey. He seems to be a fantastic second-generation worker, and I have high hopes for him. I'm going to place him into a team with Romeo Romaro for the time being to get them out there. I gave Cameron a Teen Idol gimmick, then gave him and Romeo the team name of Canada's Most Wanted (by the ladies, of course).

Barry Kingman, fresh off his steel cage loss to Poison last month, is looking for redemption and another title shot! Darryl Devine is an impressive young man who is looking to make a name for himself, and what better way than earning a shot at the gold? And there's no doubt that Warren Technique wouldn't love the opportunity to step into the ring with Poison again and put forth another great contest. And last but not least, representing the 187, Sayeed Ali is looking to make his mark early in his 4C career! Four men enter this match, but only one will be heading out with a chance to battle for the belt! 4C Hardcore Championship Hardcore Match vs Brett Fraser vs Canadian Dragon Brett Fraser will be making his first defence of his Hardcore Championship against one of Canada's fastest rising stars, the Canadian Dragon! Fatal Fourway Match to determine the #1 Contender for the 4C Championship Title! Barry Kingman vs Darryl Devine vs Warren Technique vs Sayeed Ali Your lucky to still have Kingman around I lost him and Jacob Jett quickly in my game but I tihkn Sayeed Ali is a great push for a main event monster heel. 4C Hardcore Championship Hardcore Match Brett Fraser vs Canadian Dragon Brett Fraser sucks somethng awful and if your crowd is as fickle as mine they'll boo him every chance they get. However Canadian Dragon is way above the Harcore title and doesn't have the hardcore skill to keep it. 4C Tag Team Championship #1 Contender's Match Thug Life vs Canada's Most Wanted Seeing as CMW is a new team they need to make a big splash and beating Thug Life would do it. Singles Action! Air Attack Weasel vs Nomad I used to hae Weasel but he's been doing really well for me so I think you can push him more than I can. Nomad should go on to beat Fraser for the Hardcore title so you can dump him Fraser like a ton of bricks.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to post the results tomorrow since I'll be busy tonight, but I appreciate taking the time to make predictions. I've had lots of internet buzz saying Air Attack Weasel could be the next thing for me, so I've been working on building him up. I have high hopes for CMW, as they both have the skills needed to make it to the next level, and putting them in the ring with Thug Life, one of the fastest rising groups is an excellent way to debut. I've already ran the show, and much to my surprise, Canadian Dragon and Brett Fraser had solid in-ring chemistry! I WAS planning on dropping Fraser, but I might keep him around for a couple months to build up the Hardcore belt with a feud with Dragon. And I don't want to spoil anything, but put it this way. Even if Sayeed doesn't win the Fatal Four-Way, that doesn't mean I don't have HUGE plans for him, along with his stable-mates Thug Life. (Edit: Now if only I could figure out how to put the worker profile pics into my posts so they looked less generic and bland, I'd be set!"

Monday, Week 4, February 2007 Live tonight, from the Windor Arena Hall in Ontario, Canada...4C Presents...X Factor! We have a jam-packed card for you tonight wrestling fans, including two number one contender's matches, a 4C Hardcore Championship title bout, and much more! Scheduled for the show are the 187, Barry Kingman, Brett Fraser, Canadian Dragon and many more of your favorite 4C competitors! Let's get right to the action! Opening contest: vs Air Attack Weasel vs Nomad This match turned out to be nothing but a squash for Air Attack Weasel, and he picked up the win at 4:06 with a roll-up pin to open the show. (D-) 4C Hardcore Championship Hardcore Match vs Brett Fraser vs Canadian Dragon In a back-and-forth match worthy of the Hardcore Title, Canadian Dragon won the strap after a sickening Tornado DDT from the top rope onto a steel chair for the pin at 9:49. I noticed a few things with this match, the first being that these two had surprisingly good chemistry in the ring. The second was that the crowd didn't seem too into seeing Fraser wrestle, so perhaps a gimmick change is in order. (E) Canada's Most Wanted, the newest addition to the 4C roster then made their way out to the ring, accompanied by the lovely Katie Cameron. They were quickly given a mic. w/ Romeo Romaro: For those of you who don't know who I am, I am Romeo Romaro, adult film star extraordinaire! You may have seen me in such films as 'Romeo Does Rome', 'Ohhhh, Romeo....Three Times' or 'The Romeo Empire: Romeo and Your Wife'! Now, some of you may be wondering why I'd leave such a stressful, challenging career to come here and grapple with grown men in tights. Well let me make it very clear. My partner and I are here for one reason, and one reason only, and that's to wear tag team gold! Cameron Vessey: That's right, and tonight that goal starts by taking out two low-life punks from the 'streets'. Please. One of these guys, the Hardcore Wanker, is that what he's called? Anyway, he's at least 70 years old. What a joke! You can't be hard when one hard fall could break your hip! (Romeo cracks up beside him) But either way, we've been thrown into a number one contender's match with these two has-beens tonight, and once we beat them, Phenomenal Excess, you two are next! (Cameron pauses to wink at a girl sitting front row that catches his eye). Romeo Romaro: But enough talking, let's get to my favorite part, the action! Bring them out! Ladies, you are about to find out why we truly are, Canada's Most Wanted! (F+, the eye candy Katie Cameron helped the two unknowns get over slightly). 4C Tag Team Championship Number One Contender's Match w/vs Canada's Most Wanted vs Thug Life Thug Life hit the ring in a rage, immedietely dumping the brash new-comers to the outside. They controlled the pace of the match, until Katie Cameron hopped up onto the apron and did a little dance that ended with her skirt coming up (think Stacy Keibler). This distracted Slim V long enough from Cameron Vessey to roll him up from behind for the three count at 8:47! Canada's Most Wanted are going to challenge for the Tag Team Championship next month, and they all quickly leave ringside to avoid Thug Life's wrath. (E, once again, more people were interested in Katie Cameron's thong shot than the match) Fatal Four-Way Number One Contender's Match for the 4C Heavyweight Championship vsvsvs Barry Kingman vs Darryl Devine vs Warren Technique vs Sayeed Ali The main event of the evening saw constant action that was almost too hard to follow. The first elimination of the match came when Darryl Devine caught Warren Technique in a small package pin to eliminate him at 9:04. The second elimination came several minutes later, when after a double-team DDT, Barry Kingman covered Sayeed Ali to eliminate him at 15:22. Kingman and Devine then went toe-to-toe, and with the clock approaching the 20 minute mark, Devine managed to pull off a Devine Dream Drop from seemingly out of nowhere to cover Kingman for the pin at 20:07. Darryl Devine will meet Joey Poison next month for the title! (D-, Darrly Devine really showed off his ability in this match) Final Rating: E+ Attendance: 100 I once again checked out the feedback for our show. We had fewer people show up compared to last month, but the overall feeling was that we had slightly improved and the show was a success. While ticket sales were down, I can take comfort in knowing that at the very least the product is gradually improving, bit by bit.

Tuesday, Week 4, February 2007 I began the day by speaking with both our referee Andy Gordy and Hardcore Killah about contract extensions, as they were both due to run out shortly. They both agreed to nine-month extensions, although Hardcore Killah only agreed to it if I offered an additional $200 per appearance. Considering that I had big plans for 187 down the road, I told him it was a deal. My next order of business was to sit down with Brett Fraser, a man I considered letting go today, but after seeing him and Canadian Dragon get it done in the ring last night, I opted to keep him around for a couple more trial months to see if he could improve. But before that would happen, he desperately needed a new gimmick. I told him that seeing how we were planning on using him as a focus of the Hardcore title, he should be repackaged as an extremist who will do whatever it takes and put his body on the line. I told him to take the next two months off and be ready for a rematch in April. With all the technical aspects behind the scenes taken care of, it was time to get planning our next event for March! Joey Poison vs Darryl Devine Devine is a greta worker I'm not pushing him in my main event scene but I'd like to see youdo it. Phenomenal Excess vs Canada's Most Wanted Toss Excess and let Phenomenal go singles and CMA looks to be a team on the rise they should get a big victory Canadian Dragon vs Air Attack Weasel I'm not sure if the Hardcore belt is good for either of these guys unless you turn it into an extreme belt for high fliers. I'm thinking about pushing weasel soon maybe you can do it sooner than I. Sayeed Ali vs ??? Ali is devestating good and I have him in my main event scene but not as a champion I think he could do realy well for you if you use him right.
