AAA: A New Era

Recommended Posts

Angel Athletic Association was one of the most successful women's wrestling promotions ever. Managing to turn what was touted as impossible, AAA become a profitable company. Everything was running smooth. All the top female wrestlers wanted to be apart of the company as they weren't getting the respect they deserved in other companies. And then the unthinkable happened. Anne Stardust, who was never known for being the most considerate or popular person, decided she wanted no more of the wrestling business. She announced that she had sold the promotion. She didn't say who, but did reveal that within the coming days, the transaction would be finalized and ultimately the fate of Angel Athletic Association would be in the hands of the new owner who is un-named. Will the new owner continue to run AAA as it was? Will the new owner make drastic changes to the promotion? In the process of all of this, will any potential changes completely alienate the current fanbase? Only time will tell!

Thursday, Week 1, January 2007 In a press conference held in front of AAA offices and broadcasted live over the internet via AAA's website, it was revealed that one Kate Avatar had purchased the company from Anne Stardust. Not saying much that wasn't already common knowledge, she informed everybody that AAA would indeed stay in business. However, her vision of AAA is a bit different from the current vision. She stated she wants to take a more traditional approach to the wrestling product. She said fans should expect a product that focuses almost exclusively on wrestling with hints of comedy and mainstream appeal.. but not enough to give anybody any doubt as to what the main focus of this promotion is going to be. Along with that news, she said to expect some BIG changes in the coming days. Was her announcement legit? Or was this a cheap way of garnering interest into her product. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sunday, Week 1, January 2007 After just two days of being the official owner of Angel Athletic Association, Kate Avatar did indeed make several changes. Some of which included some pretty big roster shakeups. The following people were released from their contract: Tsuki Kawamata Missy Masterson Wendy Anderson Miss Mexico Helen Bach Golden Delicious Along with those firings came a few signings. A few questionable signings: Nena Ebina Stephanie Wade Kate Lilly Mary Beth Chase It was also announced that the AAA Tag Team titles have been retired effective immediately. Kate stated she intended to focus on singles matches with the occasional tag team match. Therefore, Tag Team titles were no longer needed.

It was nowhere near I want the product to be, but that'll take time. I estimate a couple of months before we truly find our niche. All these ladies busted their humps though and made the most of it. I know how difficult it could be to adjust to new bosses.

Upon the signing Nene Ebina, I guess I failed to realize she doesn't speak a lick of english. She performed in her role very convincing, but unless I get a mouthpiece for her, I feel she could easily get lost in the shuffle. That kimora on Jessica Bunny was pretty brutal though. Jessica did one hell of a job selling it.

Mary Beth Chase is definitely something different than what the usual AAA fans are used to. I feel personally that she has what it takes to be the next big star. If she continues to work on her skills like she is, big things will be in store for her.

Did anyone else get goosebumps with the confrontation between Cherry Bomb and Wanda Fish? Both are extremely charismatic and above-average workers. I look forward to seeing what could possibly happen there.

Suzanne Brazzle and Kristabel Plum sure did impress me. Although they lost the match, they both showed a great deal of fire and determination.

I hope you all stick along for the ride. I know the product i'm presenting is a bit different from what you're used to.. but i'm determined to bring you an even BETTER product!

We failed to turn a profit this month.. losing about $6,000. I expected it though, we made several firings and several hirings. I predict i'll lose money for a couple more months before things turn around. I have to say, I like the direction you seem to be moving in. I love the fact that you gave Cherry Bomb's finisher its proper name back! I've always loved Mary Beth Chase's potential which has often clouded my judgement if her performance doesn't quite match up (the same can be said for Tai). If my guess is correct, you're using Suzue Katayama the same way I do (jobber to the stars. Or, in this case, jobber to the soon-to-be stars). Very entertaining and I look forward to stealing...errr, seeing more of your new ideas. :D

Suzanne Brazzle is as technically sound as anybody i've seen. It was clear in this match that Suzanne was the better wrestler as she pretty much outwrestled Kristabel in every aspect. None of that mattered in the end though as Kristabel picked up the pin at the 8:53 mark after a Plum Tucker. The female, who we then recognize as Dharma Gregg, completely ignores Wanda and continues to do her hair. Wanda Fish: Are you serious?! Dharma Gregg: Oh, i'm sorry, did you need something? Wanda Fish: You've GOT to be kidding me. Do I need to start kicking some a.. Then from out of nowhere, Nene Ebina comes from behind Wanda and locks in the Rear Naked Choke. Nene keeps the hold on, as Wanda turns a bright red. Soon, a familiar voice instructs Nene to break the hold. Nene obliges. As the camera pans out, we see Cherry Bomb smiling. Cherry Bomb kneels down and picks up the AAA Femme Fetale championship and then stares at it. She then tugs at her hair, jerking her head to the left and then drops the belt walking away with Dharma Gregg and Nene Ebina. Suzue tried the best she could to bring a good match out of Mary Beth Chase, but Mary is just far too green at this point and it really showed in this match. One thing that stood out to me though was Jessica Bunny.. and not in a good way either. Jessica Bunny looked horribly out of place in this match with such accomplished wrestlers. For the most part, Cherry Bomb avoided Wanda as much as she could.. often taunting Wanda and then hiding behind the imposing Nene Ebina. Dharma Gregg made her presence known several times in this match until Wanda grew tired and laid her out with a stiff kick. Tuesday, Week 1, March 2007

More Than Meets The Eye was, in my opinion, was a step in the right direction for the product I want to produce. Right now, i'm pretty much in the process of throwing stuff out there to see what sticks. It's pretty difficult to continue fueds when we're only running a show a week. I was unsuccessful in securing a TV deal this season. In the future, I might consider upping to two shows a month.. i'd have to actually turn profit first though.

Speaking of which, last month, we lost about $800 which is a HUGE step in the right direction from nearly $6,000 last month. After taking a good look at my current roster, I just felt these three were lacking. That's not to take away from either of the three.. they just failed to stand out to me.

Dharma Gregg made her debut and what a debut that was! I guess if you've got to make an impact, you've got to aim for the top. I'm curious to see what the connection is between Nene Ebina, Cherry Bomb, and Dharma Gregg.. if their attack on Wanda Fish was any indication, we could be seeing one hell of a team.

Mary Beth Chase has serious potential.. but the fact that she lacks the grasp of proper ring psychology worries me. I want the best product possible, and if you can't contribute to that, then you're gone.

WHOA! You're more harsh than I am! Usually, I like Katherine but dislike Jessica so I fire Jessica and pair Katherine with a veteran like April Appleseed or someone with above average Performance skills. Then again, I've never found much use for Nene Ebina but I can see how you'd want to team her with Cherry Bomb given the similarity of their style. I usually go for Alpha Female over Nene though. You're coming along very well. Cutting that red ink nicely! :)

Wow. Thanks for the comments! Remianen - Yeah, just a *little bit* harsh :-P . What can I say? I have a certain expectation for my roster. I could sign someone today and if they dont produce results tha I like, they're gone. I am biased towards a couple of people though. A bit unfair? Yeah. But it's making for an interesting diary hah :) So far I think the total is 9 AAA originals that have been sacked. There's actually a few more that I want to get rid of.. but they're either good in their wrestling skills and horrible in their performance skills.. or it's the other way around. So yeah, don't be surprised if I release someone that's popular in these kind of diaries. Although, the more and more I put these "angles" in the show, the more I want them in. Expect to see alot of one-liners and just craziness really. Rey619 - I was surprised too at the Kristabel/Suzanne match. I had to double check that one to make sure the rating was right lol. And yeah, I do have Japan as an active area. However right now, I only share two workers with 5SSW in Joanne Rodriguez and Gorgon. So, so far so good. That's why you see me relying on other people that aren't really used as much. I'd hate to build those two up only to have them signed away. wooodaddy - thanks! I'm still waiting for your CWA diary to update *wink wink nudge nudge* hah.

Emma Bitch won in 9:46 Rating: D- ------------ vs Finally! A good match! These four women pulled out all the stops. Suzanne Brazzle and Kristabel Plum seem to mesh really well together and pretty much anything with SMY and Catherine is pretty much going to be good. Suzanne won the match for her team after pinning Kristabel Plum with a spike piledriver. These two wrestlers complimented each other very well. Cherry Bomb is uber talented at being the devious and raunchy b*tch and J.Ro plays the "i'm a good girl, but i'll kick your ass" role well. Eventually, Dharma Gregg made her way to ringside, distracted Joanne Rodriguez for a split second which was just enough for Cherry Bomb to roll up Joanne with a handful of tights at the 13:34 mark. That would be like saying Mary Beth Chase has job security. Nene Ebina is uber talented. Probably the most intense wrestler on the current roster. For whatever reason though, these two just did not mesh well together. The match ended up very awkward looking and forced. There were a few mis-timed spots. The match came to an end when Nene Ebina locked in an armbar and refused to let go even though Wanda Fish made it to the ropes causing the referee to disqualify Nene at 14:58. Rating: D ------------ As Wanda Fish was making her way back up the aisle Dharma Gregg and Cherry Bomb appeared at the top of the stage. Nene exited the ring and began walking up behind Wanda as Dharma and Cherry moved forward towards Wanda. Wanda, seemingly boxed in and about to be on the receiving end of another beatdown just smiled. Out of nowhere a MOUNTAIN of a woman came from behind Cherry and Dharma, grabbing the two by the hair and the two had a "meeting of the minds" so to speak. Wanda turned around and DECKED Nene. With all three retreating back, Wanda picks up the house mic. Wanda Fish: Did you honestly think I was that stupid? I'm the Femme Fetale champion damnit! Since it's obvious that I have everyone gunning for me, I decided to hire some protection so to speak. I'd like to introduce you to Seiko Nanami! Random Thoughts.. Tuesday, Week 1, April 2007

"Girl On Girl Action" was pretty much a clusterf*ck. I'll admit it. Not the best show in the world. Cherry Bomb and Joanne Rodriguez gave the match of the night and rightfully so. I need to do some major revamping because right now, i'm not liking the direction.

We FINALLY made a profit! Making nearly $4,000! How's that for results! To say the least, my accountant was happy. Temporarily at least. With me being the painfully stubborn businesswoman that I am, i'm throwing in all the chips. Things are moving too slow for me. I can't stand just running one show a month. Therefore, starting this month, I intend on running 3 shows a month. Yes, after just three months i'm just starting to turn a profile. Yes, i'm probably biting off more than I can chew. Yes, i'll probably end up losing MORE money than before. The downsides are clear.. but to me, the upsides are far much better. I guess we'll see how this turns out. Get ready.

I've reviewed every show so far.. analysing each and every match like I was some 13 year old smark. I felt important. One thing I've noticed is I have some really really consistent performers. I also have more inconsistent performers than i'd care for.. but some of them are also very talented in other areas and therefore valuable. I'm still working out the kinks. Seeing who works well with who. Who just plain sucks. I do know that I plan on going on another clean up spree of all the dead weight.

Alicia Strong entered the wrestling world.. and yes, I did throw some interest her way. Her asking price was outrageous though. Sure, she's the daughter of one of the most influential wrestlers ever. Sure, she was trained by the best women's wrestler ever. Sure, she's UBER talented and has the potential to become a HUGE star which could mean good things for me. But i'll be damned if I spend on her what I could spend on 5 just as talented females. Yes, I could have possibly made the biggest mistake ever in bringing a halt to negotiations with her. Oh well.

Another thing i've noticed is that I really like the interactions between Cherry Bomb and Wanda Fish. I know I vowed to make changes to the product and bring more wrestling. But damnit, i'll do what I want. I don't have to explain myself. Expect more "entertainment" driven segments on the shows as I move to a 3 show per month model. There'll still be plenty of wrestling though. I'm not a complete sell out you know.

Alicia Strong is an acquired taste. She could be the anchor of the promotion but affording her would mean releasing (or not using) several workers. She comes with a boatload of skill AND built-in overness (a combination that's exceedingly rare). The show wasn't THAT bad. Chalk it up as a lesson. I don't think Nene is main event material, but with your brewing Cherry Bomb-Wanda Fish storyline, you've got fuel for the future. I do think 3 shows a month is kinda pushing it though. Two would be good (especially if you get a PPV deal to sweeten the pot) but three? I'm guessing the first two might make you money but the third will make you bleed.

Heh, just in case you got it mixed up, the "Random Thoughts" stuff is purely in character. I guess you can say i'm playing as Kate Avatar. So all the comments about the matches.. the random thoughts posts and everything is pretty much in character. 3 shows is excessive, but there is/was somewhere i'm going with that. Yes, I will make mistakes on purporse.. but i'm not trying to portray Kate Avatar as a perfect booker. So going for realism I plan on making bone headed decisions. Pushing people that aren't ready. It happens all the time in real life.. so why and play "Perfect Patty?" Just watch :) And yeah, Alicia Strong is uber talented and popular. I almost wanted to.. but just wasn't worth it at the stage and popularity level that i'm at right now. And yes, Nene is not main event material yet. That just adds to the challenge :)
