Wed Week 1. Our first show is tonight.

 

Jim C entering Huston's office "Goodmorning. Didn't get in till late last night from Minnesota. Would have called but I figured you needed to sleep. How'd it go in Ellerbe?"

 

Huston smiling, handed him a signed contract. "He'll be here Sunday. Just as I had figured, sorta fed up with the way things are going up there. Doesn't want to do all the dates but pretty much told me he'd do whatever I asked him to do. What about you?"

 

Jim C "2 for 2 in New York. Verne agreed on all four. That's what took me so long, getting all the finances worked out with everyone. Man this week has started off great. Think we need to go buy some lottery tickets with the luck we are having?

 

Huston "I'll but some in Florida tomorrow."

 

 

Jim C "Yes. Buy a bunch, I feel lucky."

 

Huston "You headed to Texas?"

 

Jim C "Right after the show tonight. Have you seen David this morning?"

 

Huston "Nope. When we going to announce the matches?"

 

Jim C "Don't want to do it too early, tip our hand. Then again, I'd like to see what he ends up doing."

 

Huston "Yeah I know what you mean. Well let's go tell our new booking team all about our success."

Prior to the event starting Jim Crockett, Jr addresses to crowd "I'd like to thank you all for coming tonight. We have a good show for you. We are in the midst of some real changes. Last week we purchased the GCW promotion out of Atlanta. And here tonight you will see the superstars that you have come to love on TBS as well as our already talented roster. Ladies and gentlemen we will be putting on a pay per view this weekend. This is very groundbreaking as it will be the first of its kind for us. I promise you that if you choose to purchase this show, you will not be disappointed. What you will see Sunday night will entertain you and quite frankly turn the wrestling world on its ear. But enough talk. Enjoy the show." He walks to the back to polite applause. The crowd doesn't quite know what to make of it all.

The team of Brisco, McGraw, and Rotundo used their excellent mat skills to gain the early advantage; but in the end the strength and brutality of the Assassins led by #1 Paul Jones beat them down and took the advantage. Jones got the pin fall at the 6:51 mark by using the ropes for leverage. Jones and the Assassins B-

Hawk and Animal had the early upper hand, double teaming Patterson. But then RR Jones came in and cleaned house first knocking Hawk thru the ropes and the flooring Animal. Jones is in the corner getting cranked up. Whew! Whew! The Train is coming then BAM out of no where Hawk hits the Freight train with a wicked clothesline. Tough match up. Garvin is paired up with Roberts in the ring and knocks him to the canvas with the hands of stone. As he is about to cover him Kabuki leaps off the top turnbuckle and lands on him spilling them both onto the floor. The Boogie Woogie Man slides in drops a Boogie Woogie Elbow drop on Roberts and covers him for the pin at 8:03. Jimmy Valiant B+

A very entertaining match that saw all the competitors highlighting their strengths. Sawyer and MW2 are brawling in the ring. Sawyer whips MW2 thru the ropes and onto the floor. He follows. The referee leaves the confines of the ropes to go to the apron to begin his count. On the opposite side of the ring(also on the outside) Wahoo smashes Spoiler over the head with a vicious chair shot. He gathers him up and tosses him into the ring. He applies the Indian Death lock onto the almost motionless carcass. The referee seeing the submission hold applied checks and calls for the bell when he gets no response out of the Spoiler. Winner at the 5:14 mark Wahoo McDaniel A

The National Tag Team Champions the Wild Samoans

 

This match was just what you would expect. Wild brutal. Four really bad men going at it. The Samoans gained an early advantage over the youthful Arn. Only to have The Rock exert his experience and savvy to take back control of the match. The young Anderson proved that he has learned his lessons well from his 'uncles,' as the MWC used frequent tags in and out and really worked over the arms of the Samoans. Eventually, they weakened Sika right arm to the point that Ole strapped on the Anderson step over arm bar and with Arn keeping Afa from making the save, Sika had no other choice but to tap at the 6:36 mark. MWC B-

 

Ivan and Nikita Koloff Interview

Ivan "We are better than any puny American tag teams. We will destroy anyone in our way. Long live the USSR!" B

 

As the Russians make their way toward the curtain Jack Brisco is seen climbing into the ring.

"Hey Ivan. If you are all you say you are, prove it. Right here, right now." B

 

Ivan turning towards Nikita with a sadistic look on his face and then back to Jack in the ring "Just remember American, you asked for it!" B+

The Russian Bear Ivan Koloff

 

The Russian Bear climbs into the ring. And they lock up. This turns out to be a great match. They chain wrestle back and forth with no one seemingly gaining the upper hand until finally when it looked as if Jack would be able to finally subdue the Russian he is sickled by Nikita while locking in the figure four leg lock resulting in a DQ win at the 7:57 mark. Jack Brisco by DQ A*

 

But the Russians aren't done. They attack They viciously beat Jack down until he is motionless. Nikita drags him to the middle of the ring, while Uncle Ivan goes to the apron and retrieves the Russian flag. They proceed to drape it across Jack's fallen body. B

 

As they break into their rendition of the Russian national anthem Jerry seeing his brother laying motionless runs in from the back and runs the Russians off. B+

 

Greg Valentine and Larry Zbyszko come out. "First order of business," Greg begins. "Wahoo, haven't we done this enough times for you to get the picture. I'm better. But I can't help you're too stupid to realize that. Yeah I accept for Sunday. I'm going to be there anyway; I might as well beat you all the way back to the reservation." Challenge accepted.A

 

"Now onto tonight. Larry I don't know about you but I really don't like fighting men who wear dresses."

 

Larry "Me either. God I hope he wears some underwear underneath." B

They head to the ring.

 

 

Tommy Rich and Roddy Piper come out.

Rich "Buzz, I'm along way from being scared. You want to play with fire? I'll put the belt up at Homecoming Sunday."Challenge accepted.B

Very high energy match pitting four excellent workers together. Great execution and selling on throughout the match. But in the end, it was Piper that applied the sleeper to Larry Zbyszko to get the win at the 11:41 mark. A

The MA Tag Team Champions Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood

 

The match starts with the Sarge and the Pvt. isolating Steamboat away from his partner. They beat him down unmercilessly. But he reaches down and finds his reserve and makes the tag. Youngblood comes and takes care of Kernodle first then he lays a series of Indian chops to the chest followed by his Indian War Dance ending in a flying tomahawk chop to score the pin over the Sarge at the 7:15 mark for a big nontitle victory over the champs. Steamboat/Youngblood A+

 

 

InterviewHarley Race comes out.

Harley "Flair, you and I both know I'm the King. You keep MY belt shined up and warm for me, 'cause it's only a matter of time before I take back ownership." A

 

InterviewFlair comes out.

Flair "Hey Race, I hear you talk a lot every week about this and that but that's all it is. I've got the strap and I'm a jet flyin', limo ridin' son of a gun. That's why the ladies all call me Space mountain. WHOOOOOOO!" A+

 

With that he heads to the ring for our main event.

The NWA World Hwt Champ 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair

'The King' Harley Race

In a 20 Minute Best 2 out of 3 Falls.

 

These guys have fought so much and know each other so well it takes a while for either of them to be able to mount any significant offense. But at about the 8 minute mark Race gains the upper hand and renders Flair on the mat with a running knee drop. He mounts the 2nd turnbuckle and lands the flying head butt quick cover and gains the pin fall at 8:53. Up 1-0.

After, several attempts at a quick cover on behalf of Race, Flair finally catches Race in an inside cradle for the pin fall to even it at 1-1 at the 10:52 mark.

They go back and forth and at the 19:00 minute mark Flair clips Races knee out from under him from behind. He drops a few elbows on the inside of his leg and locks on the figure four at the 19:21 mark. Race is in alot of pain. He struggles to try and get to the ropes but their in the middle of the ring. He holds on past the 19:40 mark. He still won't tap. 19:50 he's still holding on. He falls and is lying on his back, referee lifts his arm once at 19:53, twice at 19:55, and on the third and final attempt at 19:57 Race holds his arm up off the mat.....58, 59, 20:00 minutes. His arm hits the mat and the ref calls for a break as the bell rings signifying the time ran out. Flair breaks the hold and takes his championship from the ref. The show ends with Flair on one knee in the corner clutching his belt, shaking his head knowing he was so close. Draw time limit draw on the third fall, tied 1-1. A+

 

 

Notes: Crowd was really into the last 4 matches. Especially the Main event.

The show garnered an A* rating, not a bad start. That will keep the pressure on to keep filling the seats.

 

We made $206,100 profit.

 

Good thing we had decided to take David off the show, he never showed.

Really thought that Vince would have Backlund and/or Morales drop tittles to prevent them from working for me while still holding the titles. (I think in real life that would have happened. I know that's probably what I would have done.)

 

Anyway, for the record. I have storylines in mind for the workers I've hired. Not an everyshow type of thing. Sorta like what happened in the time period. Contract them to work for me on certain dates (such as the Homecoming ppv.) Anyway, building to storylines in the future.

 

Also, my buddy who is supposed to be writing the AWA part is let's say totally unrealiable. I don't know if he is or isn't going to do what he said he would (book the AWA.) I know little about the time period in the AWA not having watched it growing up. I know the major players, but as far as the guys down the roster I'm gonna have to learn on the fly(that is for as long as I keep up with it.) We'll see how it goes. He did finally do the Friday show after it having it sit there for almost a week. I'll post those results next.

Show comes on to find the familiar faces of Jim Barnett and Gordon Solie, and the not so familiar(for this show) Jim Crockett, Jr. Barnett addresses the crowd and the tv audience "Ladies and gentlemen, I have some big news. We, GCW, have found ourselves in the position financially of having to make some drastic changes. To get to the point. This past week we have been purchased by Jim Crockett Promotions. I know some of you may be worried about this, but I have been assured by my good friend Jim Crockett here that initially the changes you will see will be minimal. The Saturday night show will still have the likes of the talent that you have grown to love or hate over the years. I have been asked to stay on and run the day to day operations and have at least agreed to in order to have the transition go as smoothly as possible. At that, Mr. Jim Crockett, Jr."

 

Jim Crockett, Jr "Fans, I want to first say thank you to Mr. Jim Barnett for all that he has done. Next I want to assure you that we (JCP) are not out to completely overhaul the existing product you see here every Saturday night, only to improve it. You will still see all your old favorites here, as well as possibly getting to see some big stars that work for JCP's MACW.

With the purchase, we have essentially merged the two promotions and renamed them NWA, INC. The wrestling world is drastically changing and we are poised to change with it. We have big plans, starting tonight and leading into tomorrows huge PPV on USA Free Choice. I hope you enjoy tonight and tune in tomorrow for our big show. This match didn't get over much more the first. I don't know if it was all the news or what. But Gordon and Freddy Miller used their expertise to milk the best out of it. After some back and forth 'The Professional' pulled a roll of quarters from his trunks and decked Sammartino Jr and covered him for the pin at the 7:47 mark for defense #1 of his Jr Hwt title. D

 

Gordon "Freddy, when I was handed this this afternoon to announce tonight I could hardly believe it. We're going to see Lou Thesz V. Verne Gagne in a special challenge match tomorrow night. Wow. This match would have main evented any wrestling card in the '60s. The inability or unwilliness to put this match together in the late '50s early '60s led to the creation of the AWA."

Freddy "It will be good to finally see these two lock up in the rung." C+

 

Ole, Arn, and Gene Anderson come out and talk about the destruction they are going to inflict on everyone in their paths as the newly formed Minnesota Wrecking Crew. B-

They issue an open challenge for the Homecoming PPV. C+

 

As they head to the ring for their bout, Gordon and Freddy announce that there will be a 30 Man over the top Battle Royal to start Homecoming, and the winner will receive a future shot at the NWA World Hwt tittle. C

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew did just that, they wrecked their outclassed opponents. They used a series of double team maneuvers to weaken and beat down Whatley and Fulton. Who did a good job of just staying around in the match as long as they did. Finally Arn put Fulton to rest with a sleeper hold at the 7:51 mark. C+

Thunderbolt Patterson and Rufus R. Jones come out for an interview, but before they can even begin Paul Ellering interrupts them.

Thunderbolt "What do you want?"

Paul "For them to stop giving so much air time to old geezers like you two."

Rufus "Who you calling old?"

Paul "Oh, I don't know? Take a guess."

Thunderbolt "Just 'cause your two kids got a fluke win on Wednesday, doesn't mean a whole lot."

Paul "Fluke win? That's the second time you've made the mistake of calling them kids." And with that he motions to the back. C

 

The Road Warriors storm out and attack Patterson and Jones. They continue to beat them down until workers from the back rush out and make the save. C-

 

After order is restored. A highlight video of the Valentine V. McDaniel storyline is played. B+

 

After which the announcement is made that a US Title match has been signed for Homecoming. A

Gordon "You know Freddy, the chance to call matches like that will make this merger fun in my opinion. "

Gordon "Ron, Mr. Roberts had some interesting things to say about you on Wednesday, do you have any response?"

Ron "You know its guys like Jake that come in here and bitch and complain about everything. They don't understand they have to pay their dues to get things in this business. But I guess it's up to me to teach him huh?" C

Wild match will plenty of offense. Lot's of brawling. Garvin seems to be having his way with the younger Roberts. He pounds a couple of hard rights and whips him into the ropes to setup a back body drop, wham Roberts catches him with a DDT out of no where. He rolls him up using the ropes for leverage and gets the three count at the 9:12 mark. We have a new champ! B-

The Wild Samoans use frequent underhanded tactics to isolate and beat down the younger Armstrong. Finally Brad makes the tag. He initially mounts some effective offense and the crowd is really behind him. But he too falls victim to the tactics of the Samoans and succumbs. Afa pins Bob at the 7:51 mark with a handful of tights. The Wild Samoans make defense #1 of their National Tag titles. C

This match saw some really great action from some real solid workers. After depositing MW2 thru the ropes on the outside, The Spoiler reaches into his trunks and grabs Orndorff by the hair. He mounts the turnbuckle and proceeds to tightrope down the ropes halfway before jumping and landing a clubbing blow to the head of Orndorff with whatever he held in his hand. He slips the object back into his tights as he rolls over onto Orndorff for the pin at the 12:52 mark. B

The camera switches to the back where we see a frantic Roddy Piper getting ready for the debut of Piper's Pit. He is talking to himself. About how nervous he is that his hero 'The American Dream' will be among his first guests. He even has an "American Dream' button pinned to his shirt. (Huge audience pop in background.) A

 

You hear Gordon's voice "Ladies and gentlemen when we return, Piper's Pit. With host Roddy Piper and his guests Pedro Morales, Dory Funk Jr, and 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes."

We come back from commercial to a set, set up on a stage to the right of the ring. On it we see Roddy Piper prancing around playing to the crowd.

Roddy "Hey everybody, I'm Roddy Piper(huge pop.) Thank you(acknowledging the crowd.) They here asked me to do this talk show thing as one of the changes with all the merging and buying and stuff. And I at first told them no. But when they told me who my first guests were going to be, I changed my mind, you know. Well anyway let me get them out here. They're probably tireda standing back there listening to me babble. My first guest is Pedro Morales(polite applause.) Next is Dory Funk Jr(slightly bigger pop.)

Piper "Hey Pedro, how you doing?"

Pedro "I'm doing fine. Yourself?"

Piper "You not from around here are you?" (huge pop)

Pedro(smiling) "No, a little further south than here."

Piper "What's that you got there?(pointing at the title belt over his shoulder.)

Pedro "That's my WWF Intercontinental championship."

Piper "Hey man, I don't know if you know this or not, but this is the NWA. I don't know if you can say that here." (Huge pop!)

 

Piper "Hello Dory. How are you?"

Dory "Great."

Piper "I hear you're over there in Japan?"

Dory "Yes, been working over there for awhile."

Piper "I got to ask you this, cause people really want to know. Do you still eat red meat?" (live audience just about loses it.) I mean don't they eat raw fish over there?"

Dory "Laughing, yes that and alot of other things. But yes, I still eat red meat. You have not changed a bit." (laughing)

 

Piper "Now for my last guest, and no offense guys, the only reason that I ended up doing this thing in the first place, my hero and yours 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes." (Huge pop.)

Piper

Dusty "That's nice." (kind of taken aback by Piper's gushing.)

Piper "You're my hero."

Dusty "Okay. How have you guys been(turning to talk to Pedro and Dory. Shaking their hands.) It's been awhile Dory. Pedro, nice to see you here on the good side (patting the title belt.)"

Piper "Hey Dusty, what are your plans for Homecoming? You want to tag up or something?"

Dusty "I don't know (turning to Dory and Pedro), I heard earlier that you two were meeting tomorrow in a match. Maybe I talk Jim into making it a 3 way?"

Pedro "I'd like that."

Dory "Sounds......." being interrupted by Piper.

Piper "A three WAY!! What about me?"(Clearly agitated.)

Dusty "Huh?"

Piper "I asked you first about a match."

Dusty (Looking very confused.) "What are you talking about?"

Piper "I asked you about being in a match with me first...."

Dusty "I asked you first(said in mocking way), what is this first grade?"(laughter from the live audience.)Piper "What?" (face turning red. As he looks out at the crowd and then back at Dusty.)

Dusty "I mean act your age. I come out here and you act like you're 10 years old or something. 'Ol Dusty you're my hero, etc, etc."

Piper (you can clearly see he is devastated. Mutters as he turns to leave the stage area) "I just thought." (his sentence becomes almost a whisper as he turns.)

 

As he walks towards the side of the stage. Dusty asks Dory "What's up with that?"

Dory "I don't know. All I know is talking to you is all he has talked about all day."

Pedro yells "Look out!!" Rights as Dusty is slammed over the head with a steel chair by Piper. He had walked to the side of the stage and stopped. He picked up the chair on hearing Dusty's question.

 

Piper "You want to know 'What's up?' Why don't you ask me?

 

And to think, I idolized you. You big fat piece of crap."

And with that he slams the chair down onto Dusty's head again, which is busted wide open. He spits on Rhodes. And is about to slam him again, but Dory and Pedro both step between them.

 

Piper as he backs off from Rhodes body "Maybe that will change your mind about tomorrow night."

As we come back, we find Gordon with a weird look on his face.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I really don't know how to explain what just took place. What started as a continuation of the celebration over the Homecoming PPV, quickly turned ugly, almost tragic in nature. All I know is that there will bound to be ramifications off of this. But right now back to Homecoming. Next up is a press conference taped earlier today involving the participants in the main event tomorrow night.

Great match to end show. Four superb wrestlers going at it. Very balanced match with no one really getting the upper hand until Rich landed a series of Bionic elbows to stun Sawyer and then tagged in 'The Nature Boy' who slapped on the figure 4 and got the submission when Rich kept Zbyszko from making the save at the 13:52 mark. A

Sunday morning

 

Huston awoke to someone knocking on his hotel room door. He got up and opened it to find Jim Crockett standing there looking like he was headed to a very important board meeting.

 

Huston "You're up early."

 

Jim C "Couldn't sleep. Excited about tonight."

 

Huston "Me too. If things go as planned it will be a good night."

 

Jim C "Everything set?"

 

Huston "Yeah, come on in. I can tell you are in the mood to talk."

 

Jim C "Order us some room service and we'll talk over breakfast."

 

Huston "You do it, while I hit the shower."

 

 

After taking his shower and getting dressed, Huston sat down at the table and started his breakfast.

 

Jim "So what did you think about the show?"

 

Huston "Started a little slow, but ended fast the way you want it too."

Huston "Was pleased with Garvin and Roberts; the Orndorff/Spoiler/MW2 3-way. Thought we hit homers on the Pit segment and the main event. I'll need a little time to work out the rest of the roster. Still getting to know the Georgia guys. I haven't worked with some of them before."

 

Jim "I'm pretty happy with the show over all. Having a heavy roster last night cost us a good bit of the gate, but like we decided we wanted to start the year off with a running start. Feel good about tonight?"

 

Huston "For the most part. The tv show won't be as good as last night's, but I'd put some money on the PPV doing well if I did that sort of thing anymore."

 

Jim "Well, I've got a meeting across town. I'll see you at 3:00 for the preprodution meeting with the staff."

 

Huston "I got some calls to make. See if I can find that brother of your's."

Very good match. We expect it from Jerry, but Nikita more than held his own, showing off his immense power. But in the end Jerry catches Nikita in the figure four and gains the submission at the 5:57 mark. A

Rotundo put a valiant fight, but Kabuki just flat out classed him. Kabuki rolls him up with a handful of tights to gain the pin fall at 6:46 and capture the MA TV title. C+

As we come back from commercial we see Kabuki walking backstage. He rounds a corner and runs into Jimmy Valiant who is coming out for the next match. The two proceed to get into a heated argument and have to be restrained by some backstage workers. B

Valiant and Mosca didn't seem to click. Both seemed off their game tonight. Both had trouble going this long. Match ended with Mosca getting DQ'ed as a result of Kabuki coming out and interfering in the match at the 7:27 mark.

Excellent match between too excellent workers. These guys work great together. Each sold all the others signature moves. Match ended with Brisco slapping on the figure four and forcing Ivan to submit at the 17:53 mark. He makes defense #1 of his MA Hwt Title. A

 

Overall Grade B-(Tough crowd-not enough angles and interviews.)
