Offensive/Defensive Systems

Recommended Posts
What about the players in the system?
If the players you recruit aren't good matches for the system you use then chances are they aren't going to perform to their uptmost ability. For example take Joe Dailey at Nebraska last year. An option QB, he struggled in the West Coast offense (and now he's transfering after being demoted to 4th string). Similarly in BB if you have a QB with great running ability but a mediocre arm, he may not fair as well in a pass happy offense. Can you run the option with a drop back guy, sure, if you aren't a great coach ;). I just wouldn't expect the players performance to be as good as a QB with better running ability would do.

this is a good question because one of the real downers about the platform (playstation, xbox) ncaa football games is that you get interest from 6'5" pocket QBs even if you run the option all day and vice versa. they shouldn't be interested in your school at all!
Arlie said in the chat, that you can run any of the 300 plays in the game. but there will be a penalty if it dont fit the coach system.
Penalties will be on certain formations based on the style you choose. IE, if you choose the option, you will get a bonus for using the flexbone in playcalling, but a penalty for using the single back. It comes down to more practice time in formations. If your offense dictates a lot of option plays like the prior situation (flexbone, wishbone, I Form Big), you won't have much time to spend doing a single back or 5-WR spread formation. That's where the concept of a penalty or bonus comes in for the plays called.

does this mean a play's success is related more to game prep than player attributes? can you run the option all game one week and the shotgun all game next week, if you practice/prep accordingly? also, will recruits be "smart" about a school's style of play? will this affect their interest in your school?
