Slim Jim
I am going to start a dynasty but I can't decide who to use. I am going to use the DOTT data set for it and I'm tied between: A) Chris Benoit B) Davey Boy Smith So I am going to leave it up to a vote as I really can't choose. I'll take the decision after 24 hours or 5 votes, which ever comes first, and then I'll make a post introducing the dynasty.
Joe Moralee
Do Benoit! I'd like to see some Wild Pegasus matches.
D. Boons Ghost
Very interesting choices. Davey Boy would be kind of cool, if only to tag team with a certain amazing talent that you (Smith) just so happen to dislike. :) Davey Boy also is very well known in the U.K. - so you would have a much higher leg up on Benoit. Then again, Benoit is just so darned cool - once you build him up to fit his initial moveset. I had a career with him where I eventually formed a dominating tag team with Dynamite, which I found a lot of fun. Talent wise, you'd have to go with Benoit. If you want to start off easier, I'd go with Smith, as he has that overness advantage. Either way, I'm sure it will be fun.
Slim Jim
Looks like Benoit is getting the earlier support. Just thought I'd add in some rules I set for myself: Can only work for 3 promotions at a time. Can only work for 1 company in each country at a time, except USA where 2 are allowed. Can only talk to 2 people per show; can only ask advice from 1 of them. After 2 months I can only join a fed if someone I have a positive relationship with works there or I am offered a place; for the first 2 months I can work for anyone within the limits of other rules. Can only make tag teams with someone I have a positive relationship with. Can NOT use any cheats at any point. Can only remove/add moves on the first day of a month; a maximum of 3 removals and 3 additions can be made. If anyone has any ideas for other rules to set for myself then please suggest some. Slim Jim
Hello, my name is Chris Benoit, also known as The Crippler. I have just broken into the pro-wrestling industry. For those of you who don’t know, I am a protégé of Stu Hart. I have a firm loyalty to Stu and the rest of his family. He taught me the skills I needed to get started and has given me a place on the roster of Calgary Stampede Wrestling. I’m currently a nobody in the wrestling world, only a select few people have heard of me, and none of the major companies have a clue I exist. I am setting out to prove them wrong, I will capture the biggest title in the industry, even if it takes me 18 years. I’m hoping my all-round approach to the business will win me a fanbase and gain me some recognition among my peers. Here starts the career of Chris Benoit, who knows what lies ahead but I going to make damn sure I get to the top. ------------------------------------------------------ Okay I am starting as Benoit due to popular demand. Details: Stats Spirit: 10 Power: 35 Technique: 44 Speed: 50 Psychology: 12 Stamina: 34 Toughness: 55 Microphone: 40 Charisma: 18 Safety: 18 Looks: 49 Respect: 7 Overness USA: 0 Canada: 10 Mexico: 0 Japan: 15 UK: 0 Europe: 0 Australia: 0 Relationships Stu Hart – Protégé Move changes Added: Weaver Lock – Finisher Texas Clover Leaf – Finisher Flying Headbutt Drop – Finisher Removed: The Boston Crab – Finisher I woke up to the sound of a ringing phone at 6:30AM, who could possibly be calling me at this hour? It was Stu. Stu Hart. Hart: Chris? Wake yourself up kid; you’ve got a meeting. Me: With who? Hart: I set you up with an agent; he needs to talk to you about your options in this business. Me: You don’t mind me working with other companies? Hart: Not at all Chris, just as long as you’re available as much as possible for Stampede. Me: I’ll try my hardest to get bookings on different days. He gave me the details of the meeting before saying his goodbyes. I hung up the phone and crashed back down onto my pillow. This is really happening now. I had a wash and grabbed some breakfast before heading off to meet my agent. He set me up with a trainer and gave me a little device. It was called a Semi Operational Personalised Handheld Information Extractor, or SOPHIE for short. It helps me to keep track of news in the wrestling world and keep control of my bookings. Speaking of bookings, I signed up for two more companies today. On the advice of my agent I joined a federation in Japan, UWF and one in USA, CWA. There are two clashes on my schedule: CWA have a shows on Monday, same day as UWF and Friday, the day CSW have a TV show! I think I’ll have to cancel my Friday CWA bookings; I can’t let Stu down after all he’s done for me. That’s assuming I pass my tryout with CWA. I headed off to my trainer very happy with my choices. We devised a schedule to help me improve on my technique, speed, stamina, charisma and mic skills. I was slightly disappointed that we didn’t focus more on psychology and safety, but I’ll pick up some of that in the ring. Contracts: CSW – $40 PPA – 173 days left UWF – $128 PPA – 90 days left CWA – Tryout Hopefully I’ll get my tryout and debut with CWA on their TV show tonight. I guess I should get going to the arena. Slim Jim
I arrived at the arena early, to try and make a good impression. I found out I'd be opening the show against Norvell Austin. I wasn't sure what to expect as I'm fairly new to the scene. I'm hoping to work methodically and systematically against him, and try to not let him control me. I was nervous in the back and kept a low profile. I did, however, speak to Grappler #1. I asked him for some tips on psychology and he obligingly accepted. I psyched myself up and headed out to open the show Match vs Norvell Austin I started out with a series of arm wringers, followed by and arm wringer smash. I went for a bodyslam but Austin fell on top for a 1 count. We went through some early tooing and froing with neither of us getting an upperhand. After 8 minutes I took the advantage with a snap suplex after I avoided driving knee lift. I dragged him to his feet and whipped him against the ropes; the referee got knocked down in the process. I grabbed Austin and threw him outside. I left the ring and we fought back and forth, both attempting moves through tables, but neither succeeding. Eventually the referee recovered and Austin dragged me back in. He whipped me into the ropes and again the referee got knocked down. He hit me with a shoulder block as I rebounded off the ropes. With me grounded he hit a rear-seated chinlock. He attempted a second but I slipped out and hit a back suplex. I locked in the Texas Clover Leaf but he didn’t submit. I hit a series of moves to weaken his arms and legs and soon his was ready to be beaten. I whipped him into the ropes and yet again the referee got knocked down! I grabbed Norvell and went behind with a hammerlock. I locked in my new finisher, the Weaver Lock but that damned referee wasn’t up! I went on to hit the forward Russian legsweep and Texas Clover Leaf before the referee decided to do his job again. I immediately lost control of the match and Austin began giving me a beating. The referee got knocked down once again and while he was down I was greeted with two brass knuckle punches, and cut open. The referee recovered just as I slipped out of a hammerlock and locked in the Weaver Lock for the second time. Austin had no choice but to give up. I won my first match! Result: Benoit wins after 22 minutes with a Weaver Lock – C+ Norvell gave me a good report when talking to Jerry after the match and I was promptly called in for a meeting. Jarrett offered me a 1-year PPA deal at $40 per appearance. I requested the contract only by 6 months long, which Jerry thought was acceptable and the deal was signed! I left the arena very pleased with my performance. Okay it could've been better, but it was my first match and it's a solid base to build on. I have tomorrow off but it's back to Canada and Stampede on Wednesday. I am going into my next match on a huge high, I'd hate to be my opponent. New Relationship: Norvell Austin – Friendship Skill improvements: Psychology +1, Spirit +3, Overness in USA +
D. Boons Ghost
Good luck on the promising new career! The fans must have really freaked out that you beat an established vet in your first match. Well done!
Slim Jim
I was lucky the referee got knocked down, or I would've been toast. I was out for the count after the first brass knuckles punch, the second probably left an imprint in Benoit's face! I have WreSpi on a different computer, so I'll be doing weekly updates now, rather than daily. The next entry may be up tonight, but if not it'll be up tomorrow. Ultima
Well, that explains the tooth then ;) I had been thinking of doing a Benoit diary earlier, but didn't get around to it. In the career, I think I picked the same companies though.
Slim Jim
Got a bit delayed with some things at home. Next update will be up today, I am going to go and work on it now, so it should be up within the next 2 hours or so, at the most. I will also play around with the markup on my next entry. Slim Jim
Wednesday - Week 1 - December 1983 Working for: CSW Stu called me up today to ask me if I would be at the show tonight. I immediately replied that I would be. He seemed indifferent, I wonder why? I show up at the arena and soon find out. He has no place for me on the card. I'm a little disappointed but hope this means I'll get a match tomorrow. I hang around at the show; I have nowhere else to go. I spoke with Stu backstage, he gave me some tips on Psychology, I'm not sure I fully understood what he meant though. I also spoke with Bret. He's a nice guy. As soon as I'm high enough up the card, I'm going to try to get him as a tag partner. Thursday - Week 1 - December 1983 Working for: CSW I arrived at the arena early, hoping that I would be on the card tonight. I was rewarded with a match against Gama Singh. I don't know too much about this guy. Backstage I spoke to JR Foley. He gave me some tips on Psychology and I totally understood where he was coming from. It was a lot clearer than what Stu told me last night. I headed out to my match, brimming with confidence. Match versus Gama Singh - Regular 1 vs 1 match
I started out with a quick arm drag followed by an arm wringer. I didn't let up as I followed that with a bodyslam. I picked him up and hit two forearms to his back and knocked him down with a dropkick. He avoided my legdrop attempt and hit a grounded double wristlock. As he picked me up I fought back and locked in a front facelock. I used a quick combination of moves to weaken him. A drop toe hold and a knee drive to the arm kept him down. I raised him to his feet again and hit a double underhook suplex followed by a gutwrench backbreaker. I went for the cover, 1...2..last second kick out. I thought I had the win! I whipped him into the corner and hit a seated dropkick. He flopped to the floor and I locked in the Texas Cloverleaf. He held on as long as possible but had no choice other than to submit! Result: Win - C+ - 12 minutes
I am so pumped about my next match. My spirit is soaring. I think my psychology is improving steadily as well, that match made things clearer, as did my talk with JR Foley. I think the Canadian crowd is starting to warm to me. I left the arena pleased with my performance, maybe I should work for CWA tomorrow to keep Stu on his toes. I just hope I have a match, or I'll look like an idiot! It turns out I did have match! I was going up against Tony Falk in the middle of the show. Backstage things were a little different to what I was used to. I spoke with Jerry Lawler about psychology. I didn't understand a word. Between him shouting "Puppies!" and me avoiding his drool I wasn't able to pick up anything useful. I also spoke with Angelo Poffo, what is this guy's problem? I tried to be nice but he went off on one. We got into a small scuffle but were pulled apart before any clean blows were exchanged. I was highly pissed off and headed out for my match. Match versus Tony Falk - Regular 1 vs 1 match
I started out by whipping him against the ropes and clobbering him with a European Uppercut. I followed that with an arm wringer smash, a front facelock and a hammerlock drive. With him in the corner I smashed his face onto the turnbuckle. I tried another European Uppercut but he countered it with a punch of his own. He locked me in a side headlock before climbing to the top rope and slamming down a double axe handle on my head. I avoided a punch and locked in two front facelocks. We tussled back and forth with no inch being given or asked. I got frustrated with the stalemate and climbed to the second rope. I flew off with a dropkick but he caught be with a forearm to the gut, knocking the wind out of me. I slipped out of his seated punch flurry and went for the Forward Russian Legsweep. He blocked it and hit a Running Knee. He picked me up and went for another one but I managed to jump out the way. I threw him from the ring and hit a plancha dive. He dragged me back inside and whipped me right into the ref. I avoided another Running Knee and hit a double underhook suplex. I slowly climbed the turnbuckle and lept off with a flying headbutt, but Falk moved! I regained the advantage and hit another double underhook suplex, but missed another flying headbutt. The referee decided now would be a good time to get up. I got Falk down again and went for the Texas Cloverleaf, but he broke it before I could lock it in. He hit me with two Running Knees, but I avoided his seated bionic elbow. He floored me again but I slipped out of his seated punch flurry and locked in a Weaver Lock out of nowhere! Falk had no choice but to submit! Result: Win - C - 20 minutes
After the show many of the roster gave me a disapproving look because of my fight with Poffo. I didn't get much sleep but I got enough to be ready for tonight. I made my way to the arena for the show, and found I'd be opening the Pre-PPV 3 match show. I spoke with Joe Higuchi backstage about psychology but he was not help to be honest. The backstage area was quiet so I warmed up for the remaining time before my match. Match versus Masahiro Chono - Regular 1 vs 1 match
The match started slowly with various moves wearing each other down. He got the upperhand though and knocked me down with a charging forearm. I slipped out of the Abdominal Claw and threw him from the ring. I missed the plancha dive and was dragged back in. I got the advantage and threw him back out but missed another plancha dive. He locked in the Abdominal Claw and rolled me back in for a near two count fall. I threw him from the ring and hit the plancha. I slammed him down with a back suplex and rolled him back in. I locked in the Texas Cloverleaf but he wouldn't submit. That was it for me. I charged at him but he avoid my attempts to take him down. He took me down easily and locked in an Abdominal Claw, I refused to give up. Chono was getting angry as well now. He hit me with a short arm judo toss and a triple forearm blow before locking in another Abdominal Claw. I am not letting this guy beat me! I refused to submit again. Chono decided to take a different route and picked me up. He grabbed me and slammed me down with a double underhook facebuster. Masahiro covered me for the one, two, three. Result: Loss - B- - 19 minutes
I was disappointed to lose on my first showing in UWF, but hey it was a good match. I found out after the match that Apocolypse Now! was cancelled by UWF because not enough people were available. I would've wrestled again! Oh well, back to the States tomorrow to get ready for CWA on Monday, or I could stay here for the big payday, hmmm.
