Making Love: The Owen Love Story

Making Love: The Owen Love Story ------------------------------------ Years have passed since Owen Love swam for his country in the 2004 Olympic games. Canada has high hopes for him, but Australia had other ideas. He only just managed to get into the final of the 200m freestyle event, yet he came an agonising fourth place, narrowly missing a medal for his nation. He had already annouced his plans to retire from the sport, he felt that he had done all he could do and it was time to call it a day. Not one to shy away, Love wanted to make something of himself. Dispite critics saying he would never make it in the sport, Owen turned to professional wrestling. Many of his fans resented his decision and saw wrestling as an "fake" sport and a step down from his Olympic adventure. His official website broke the news to the world, but no offers of work came. Six months he waited for offers, but still nothing. He spent most of his time in the gym, building himself up and posting photos of his new, buffer physique on his website in the hopes of impressing some potential employees. Nothing. It was high time that Owen got his name on the map, and he had to do it himself. --- Author's Note: I used the "Generic Canadian #4" move set for Owen and added a few extra moves, such as the boston crap and a few extra suplexes. I also added two extra moves as finishers: Cupid's Arrow A moddified spear where more emphesis is on driving into the opponent's mid-section rather then tackling him to the floor. ( Frequency: 15%, Success Rate: 40% ) Love Handle Inspired by the move Mick Foley's Dude Love wasn't allowed to use, the Love Handle is an unedited Maniple Claw. ( Frequency: 15%, Success Rate: 90% ) --- June 2005 - Weeks One & Two -------------------------------- Love's agent, Jeremy Fulton had contacted both the "big two" in Canada, NOTBPW and CGC requesting a meeting for his client. Both companies had granted Owen a try out match and the chance to show the companies what he could do. NOTBPW Nowhere to Run When Owen arrived at the arena, he met Dan Stone. Stone told him he'd be facing R.K. Hayes. Stone seemed rather unhappy (maybe he needed a little Love) and seemed rather blunt when he asked Owen "Why I should I help you?" unpon asking for some advice. His son, Dan Stone Jr. seemed happier and offered a helping hand, giving him some tips on improving his psychology. Never one to let a pretty face go by without a quick chat, Owen started chatting with the beautiful Emma Chase, who offered him some advice one cutting an interview. As the show started, Owen could feel his stomache churning. This was it. He was first on the card, jerkin' the curtain as they say. "Hey, don't look so worried," came a voice from being him. He turned to see Hayes smiling and ready for action. The took shook hands and began talking about possible scenarios to use in their match. Owen was out first, and steped out from behind the curtain to a fairly good reaction from the crowd, better then he'd expected... Owen Love vs. R.K. Hayes The match started evenly as both men mounted some offence using their technical abilities. At the seven minute mark, Hayes started to take control of the match with some brutal punch flurries that had Owen reeling. Sencing things getting worse, Owen bought himself some time with a eye gouge, much to the crowd's disgust. He followed up with some more solid, technical work to try and keep Hayes grounded. After missing a second rope fist drop however, Hayes regained his momentum with a belly-to-belly suplex and more brutal punch combinations. Owen knew he was in danger, and battled out of a leaping piledriver which would have surely ended the match. After a brawl outside the ring, which saw Owen using a steel chair to his advantage, Hayes pulled Owen into the ring, only to be knocked down with a high cross body for a near fall. With Hayes still in the driver's seat, Owen tried once again to keep the big guy grounded with some submission moves focusing on the legs. Hayes once more took control, but Owen halted the assault with a twisting face crusher, leading to a three count. Match Rating: C Owen was disapointed with the ending of the match. He was expecting Hayes to kick out, but he didn't. As a result, Stone wasn't pleased to see a distingtly average match and thought better of offering Owen a contract. There was always CGC, right?

June 2005 - Weeks One & Two -------------------------------- CGC Raw Power With NOTBPW behind him, Owen rolled into the west side of Canada and the "other" promotion's event. Upon arrival, he saw he'd be taking on John Maverick, the reigning CGC World Champion. They must have really wanted to test him. The first person he met at the arena was head booker Alex DeColt. He seemed pleasent enough, giving Owen some psychology tips. He also bumped into Maverick. Maverick offered Owen his hand and the two shook. Maverick gave him some more tips on psychology and wished him luck tonight. Jack DeColt was also hanging around backstage and gave Owen yet more psychology tips. Even if he didn't get his contract, this night would pay off. Owen Love vs. John Maverick The match spilled out onto the floor in the early goings, Owen once again using chairs to his advantage, hitting a few moves onto one. Maverick's plan was obvious; take out Owen's legs. After a few minutes, Owen was limping but was able to fight threw the pain. After mounting some offence, out of nowhere Maverick pulled off a DDT through a table at ringside! Owen still managed to fight out of a leg grapevine.Owen shoved the champ into one of the ring posts and followed up with a forward russian legsweep onto a chair. The fans loved it. The referee did not. He ordered Owen to bring back inside, and he did so. Maverick seemed to have been revied by the legsweep onto the chair and began his onslaught on Owen's legs once more. After countering Maverick's Uranage Slam, Owen saw his chance to try and hit the Cupid's Arrow. Of course, he missed and went crashing into the turnbuckle. Maverick tried the Slam again, hitting it this time. Owen managed to dig down deep and kick out as the referee's hand came down for three. The Slam connects again, another kickout. Maverick was getting frustrated and tried for a Cradle piledriver, but Owen broke Mav's grip and pushed him aside. Owen mounted some steady offence, but it all came crashing down as Maverick cracked Owen in the face with a forearm, busting him open then locking in a sleeper. Unable to with stand any more, Owen tapped. Match Rating: C+ Owen felt that it was a good match, so did Maverick who sang his praises to George DeColt. DeColt apparently agreed it was a decent match, and offered Owen a written contract for $960 a month as an enhancment talent. Owen had hoped for more money but didn't want to push his luck. He put pen to paper and was officially a member of CGC's roster.

June - July 2005 ----------------- With only one show a month ran by CGC, Owen took some time out, content with his successful break into the wrestling business. As July 1st rolled around, his personal assistant called, telling him that the next show would be in one weeks time: CGC Mass Slaught. Pleasent name. CGC Mass Slaughter Upon arrival at the arena, a well rested Owen was pleased to find that he wasn't going to be "jerkin' the curtain" this month. Third match down the card, he'd be teaming with Young Leo to take on the Specialists, the current CGC Tag Team Champions. Someone wanted to make his matches tough. Maybe some kind of CGC initiation? Who knows? Steve DeColt was hand for some more psychology advice, as was his brother Jack for some tips on the mike. CGC World Tag Team Championship Match Owen Love & Young Leo vs. The Specialists (Bobby Thomas & Nate Johnson) (c) Thomas and Leo started things off and the two exchange fast paced moves. Leo gains the upper hand as he kicks Thomas in the back. As Leo continues to gradually hit bigger moves, Thomas scrampes to his corner and tags in Nate who takes control with a diliberatly slow style of wrestling. After countering Johnson's high risk double axe-handle with a dropkick, Owen shouts encouragment, and being tagged in as a result. Building up momentum, Love knocks Nate down with a dropkick, but misses a leg drop. Seeing his chance, Nate tags out. Thomas has a game plan, take Love down and keep him there with various holds to the legs. After his confidence started to grow, it crumpled once more as Love nailed him with a spinning back kick rather then Thomas' plan of a legsweep. As is becoming Love's style, the match spilled out onto the floor where he made himself at home with a DDT into a steel chair. The referee wasn't happy, but Owen was. Owen was starting to feel it. Thomas used a table at ringside to pull himself up and Owen saw his chance. He charged, hoping to finally debut Cupid's Arrow, but a shot to the knee put a stop to that. With Thomas is charge, he pulled Owen into the ring. After dodging a clothesline, Owen tried his luck with the Love Handle, jamming his hand into Thomas' mouth. Thomas slowly dropped to the floor, but somehow wriggled free. Tiring, Owen tagged in the fresh Leo. Thomas tagged out also, and Nate took control. A kick to the gut and a DDT soon solved that problem. After countering a powerbomb, Leo tagged in Love. As the two exchane blows, Johnson gains the upper hand and climbs to the top rope, looking for an axe-handle. However, he is met with the Love Handle. Refusing to lose the tag titles, Johnson some how with stood the power of the 'Claw and took control. After minutes of battling, brawling, and tags for each team, Bobby Thomas and Young Leo were exchanging blows. After a kick to the stomache, Thomas nailed a twisting face crusher. The match seemed over, but the referee was pulled from the ring. Thomas stood up and looked around, seeing that Leo's manager Farrah Hesketh had pulled the referee away from the pinfall. Hesketh was sent to the back, as Thomas continued his assault with hard hitting move after hard hitting move, unable to keep Leo down. Frustrated, he tagged in Johnson who climbed to the top rope. He jumped off, missing a flying body press and allowing Leo to tag out once more. Love charged, but Johnson threw him to the floor with a suplex. He locked in the scorpion death lock, and Love had no choice but to tap. Match Rating: C+
