TCP1 Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Hi all, Here is the beta beta for the 1998 mod I'm working on. I need people to weed out any problems or errors and also suggest any new workers that can be added. You may notice it's only the US, which is how it will stay for now. Once US i completed I'll start learning about Japan and Mexico and begin working on it as an add-on. http://rapidshare.com/files/25338671/1998.zip.html - Updated April 9th Let me know.
uruloke Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 The European title and the Light Heavyweight title needs to be added to the WWF.
Chriswok Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Had a quick look at WCW looks ok, personally would have thought they would have been a little less over in Canada and more over in Mexico and Japan (due to talent trades and promotion pacts over the years). Think the overness in the UK is correct, as even though I was a big fan of it back in the day, it was only ever available on Cartoon Network/TNT on a Friday Night and wasn't really advertised. Not too sure on the product setting however; match intensity 10%, danger level 20%? WCW had some of the best highflyers from around the world, and as such the danger level should be much higher due to the risky moves they performed. I can see why intensity might be as low as it is due to the old age main eventers, however you're forgetting about the likes of Ernest 'The Cat' Miller, Benoit, Malenko, Saturn, etc who were pretty intense in their matches. Comedy on Heavy, Lucha Libre on Low? Again, WCW had some of the top stars from Mexico and Japan, I would personally say that Lucha Libre was a mainstay of there lower/midcard scene, so maybes Low is correct for this, not sure on where you're getting the Heavy Comedy from however. Head Owner: Eric Bischoff - again this is a difficult one to call as WCW had so many people in a position of power. Bischoff had control of WCW, however, he ultimately had to report to a board of directors who then had to report to Turner (who later on would have to share votes with another board of directors). Arn Anderson - Needs friendships/tag Teams with Flair, Dillon, Ole etc. Disco Inferno - Why Egomaniac? Everything I've seen of the guy - shoot interviews, he seems a really humble level headed guy. Was this decision made from his stint on the booking team with Russo? Lord Steven Regal - He was just known as Steven Regal at this point, having dropped the Lord title as a 'back to roots' gimmick against Prince during their fued for the TV Title in early 97. Scot Norton - I'd say he'd have some understanding of Japanese. -- Bob Backlund - has no skills.
TCP1 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Thanks for that, I'll make the necessary changes. As for WCW product settings. Having read Eric Bischoffs book, it was at this time that the Board of Directors asked for the intesity levels to be dropped in favour of comedic family-freindly enterainment. Thus to increase the difficulty levels, I thought I'd represent it this way. Lucha Libre whilst making up the lower card, was never seriously considered in the main event scene. So I left it at low or you'd have crazy things like Rey Mysterio as Heavyweight champ (like that'd ever happen!).
tommytomlin Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 The worker stats themselves are tremendous, couldn't really find any faults with them. It's just the popularity that lets down the mod at this stage. WCW and WWF are running D+ shows, and considering 1998 was wrestling at its peak, I don't think that's very realistic. Take WCW. Guys like Hogan, Sting, Flair, they're all good. I'd bump Bret Hart up a little, as WCW hadn't killed his popularity just yet, but on the whole they're perfect for the simulation. But then you go further down the card, and that's where the D+'s are coming from. Rey Mysterio, one of the most popular WCW mid-carders, has 65% average pop. He has to be in the mid 70's, or else the sim gets wacky. There's DDP, at the peak of his popularity, at a very mid-card 80. I think there's a case for him to be at 90, but at the very least he should be hitting mid 80's. The drop off between main events and uppers is too much, and the same for the drop between uppers and mids. Raven at 60, when he was involved in high-profile feuds with Benoit and DDP doesn't really make sense, and it kills ratings for his matches. Nitro and RAW should be hitting B- at the very least, this was pretty much the golden age of professional wrestling in the 1990's, and I really think it's the popularity's fault.
TCP1 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Interesting Tommy. Popularity is the main problem I've had with the mod so far. Because whilst this is a goden era storyline-wise, the monster ratings did not come into play until about a year later. However it is frustrating that the AI seems to produce such low rated shows. I had a couple of Raws run and was consistantly getting B+ or higher. I'll have a play around and see if I can bump them all up a bit!
jimmy_shakerz Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 New Promotion : CZW, TNA, ROH Worker to be added : Rikishi, Kimo, Ekmo Future Worker to be added : Aaron Stevens, Afa Anoai Jr., Cody Runnels, Davey Richards, El Generico, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jack Evans, Jay Briscoe, Jayson Paul, Jose Maximo, Joel Maximo, Kevin Steen, Khosrow Daivari, Mark Briscoe, Mikey Batts, Mistico, Ray Gordy, Rene Dupree, Rocky Romero, Roderick Strong, Ryan Reeves, Sexxxy Eddy, Shad Gaspard, Sonjay Dutt, Taiji Ishimori, Takeshi Morishima, The Amazing Red, Xavier
jimmy_shakerz Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Judging by your current champions, your mod is somewhere between May 17th and June 14th The Women's title was retired in December 95 but in September 98 Jacqueline won the belt, maybe you could add it since it's only 3-4 month later. Taka Michinoku was the Light-Heavyweight title from 1997 until October 1998 Triple H was the European champion from Match 17th to July 14th Mankind was awarded the Hardcore title in November 98 If i'm correct about your mod being from May 17th to June 14th ( i compared every big title from WCW and WWF ), then Taz shouldn't be Television champion since he lost the belt on March 1st.. It should be Rob Van Dam Taz declared himself FTW champion on May 1st The OVW title is named 1OVW Heavyweight OVW Heavyweight Champ = Rip Rogers OVW Tag Team = Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway As for MCW, I don't see any title histories before November 98
alden Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 this is a list of things i noticed first off when i loaded up the game....a few opinions and a few things i noticed. thunder is on cbs should be on tbs opnion but WCW World War 3 might not be highly regarded at that time.....it would have only been it's third ppv so it might not have gotten that big yet. the same thing for WCW Bash at the Beach. it is at historic but it is only at the fourth incarnation at this point. It should be important but don't know it it was historic at this point. i believe at this time thunder was being shown on thursday..not sure but it is on tuesday on the data. Faces of Fear are at b level experience but they had been teaming up for years on and off. so it should be higher then b i think the same goes for public enemy......they might be higher then b level experience. i am not sure of all the members of the nwo at this time but i do believe the members might need to be worked out..i believe vincent was in hollywood and i think by the time stevie ray was also. sting i believe was in the nwo wolfpac by this point and the giant was back in nwo hollywood.
TCP1 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Thanks fo the last two posts, very useful. I've changed the errors, a regards the others: The data is set to begin June 1st. WCW Thunder is on Thursday already. Sting joined Wolfpac on June 1st. Stevie Ray not in Hollywood yet. OVW tag titles were vacant. Not including FTW as it puts too many top-level titles in ECW. Rikishi is already in the data. Amended the rest!
jagilki Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Argh. Another mod to wait for. Keep up the good work. I'll have to download later and give a look. I have a horrible memory, but eh, the more eyes that look the more chances of finding something whack right?
TCP1 Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Precisely. I could do with a list of performers from the US who were performing around this time and I could include as free agents.
jimmy_shakerz Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Just a quick update for Location In 1998 Montreal's Centre Bell was named Centre Molson You should also include The Dudley Boyz as a "none promotion" team (like Hardy Boys and LOD )
TCP1 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Thanks Darkfire. What I'm really after is the rosters for the big Japanese promotions at the time.
Vladamire Dracos Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I see a lack of Vampire Warrior (aka Gangrel) and Vampiro in this mod ;). TCP1 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Thanks Vlad, Very useful stuff. I've updated the overness of WWF and WCW workers to make it less likely that the companies will slip into oblivion within 3 months. It's strange how such small tweaks can make a huge difference. For instance previous to the overness overhaul, WCW and WWF both shrank to Cult with WCW eventually going back up to global and WWF dying on its ass. Now, WCW struggles to stay national (especially with the attrocious Nash, Hall, Giant, Steiner, Hogan, Savage and Piper main events) whereas WWF goes from strength to strength. In fact in my last test ECW became global (probably have to sort out their overness issue) with Doug Furnas as their megastar. A* overness all across the US. New workers are going to need a serious looking over and bios added because at the moment Danielson enters wrestlnig and within a year is the top star with A* overness for the WWF. Also Konnan needs tweaking as he regularly main events, which is not likely!
foolinc Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Konnan main eventing isn't really that big of a stretch. The reason he never got there in real life was totally political.
TCP1 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007
Konnan main eventing isn't really that big of a stretch. The reason he never got there in real life was totally political.
Well, that and he sucked in the ring and didn't have the look of a main eventer. :)
foolinc Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007
Well, that and he sucked in the ring and didn't have the look of a main eventer. :)
Tell that to Mexico. :p
alden Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 in mexico in the time of the mod konnan should be super over....he was huge in mexico with aaa.....in america i think he was starting to get over at this point maybe not super yet. maybe a b in america with b+ in south west.
TCP1 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Konnan is set as B in US and A in Mexico, which should just about cover it. I like the fact that his popularity decreases the further North you go. Anyway that's enough time spent discussing Gonnad! Come on, there must be workers who you all want to see in the data who aren't in there at the moment?
D16NJD16 Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I forget if I ever re-replied to your PM TCP but just letting you know I will be doing the 1998 location file for this.
AlaskanHero Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007
Konnan main eventing isn't really that big of a stretch. The reason he never got there in real life was totally political.
I just wanted to note that you could replace Konnan's name with the names of at least a half dozen other workers and it would still be correct. Anyways, to stay on topic, I wish you luck on your endeavor, TCP.
TCP1 Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 First post is updated with latest update version of the data, with major tweaks to the overness of WWF and WCW as well as changing the errors mentioned above. Have a look.
