Dragula Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Has anyone played this game before? I had never heard of it until i picked up a used copy for $8 about a week ago. Did it not get any publicity or have i been living under a rock for the last three years? :p Anyways, I completed the dang thing in about 9 nine days and had a hell of a good time doing so. Anyone got any thoughts on this game or can recommend others like it? I enjoy video games that have a story along with the button mashing. Mafia did not disappoint. It was well worth playing and as long as your mentally mature enough to play games with blood and violence, I highly recommend picking a copy up and giving it a go. Any feedback will make me feel happy so go on ahead and reply.... :)
WrestleManiac Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I played Mafia when it first came out on PC. Loved it except for the dodgy racing section. Great story, great detail, great game. Not as good, but still worth a try, is Godfather. Or, if it's story you want try something from Bioware like Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, or Jade Empire, or wait for Mass Effect if you have a 360.
TCP1 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Dude, I love your avatar, you got any idea when Mass Effect is coming out?
WrestleManiac Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I have pre-ordered Mass Effect on Play.com and it says 25th May. Gamespot say the end of May, but officially there has been no release date confirmed. But it must be soon because the hype machine is starting to roll.
Clarity Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I think that would make an excellent birthday gift for me :)

WrestleManiac Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007
Where is this hype? I did say it was only starting.
TCP1 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Sorry, I realised that my previous comment might have been a bit aggressive. I'm soooo excited about this game. Probably moreso than TEW 2007. I loved KOTOR 1 and 2. Jade Empire I didn't like so much, but this looks like it will be THE BALLS!
Actarus Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Like all that have posted, I am hungrily anticipating Mass Effect as well. Just as an aside, do any of you go to www.gametrailers.com? (No, I have no affiliation with the site). They have a number of cool videos about Mass Effect that you can watch or download. FYI Another game that I'm looking forward to is Fable 2! The latest footage about it has me all excited for it. I know the first one wasn't met with critical acclaim, but I personally loved it & can't wait for it. Incidentally, is Molyneux (sp?) a bit of a low level celeb in the UK, or only gamers know who he is?
D. Boons Ghost Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Mafia was a solid game. I enjoyed playing the PC version of that quite a bit when it came out. Besides the kitsch factor of GTA III's 80s tracks, Mafia's jazz-laden soundtrack might be one of the best I've ever come across. Just superb.

I did my character so that he was the mutts-nuts as a warrior. Unfortunatly he was crap at magic and subsequantly I was unable to defeat the final boss. What a bugger! And Molyneux is only a gamer celebrity and I wish he'd release The Movies on Xbox 360. Git. Here's a link to some Mass Effect goodies. I'm not a serious gamer anymore so i have no idea what Mass Effect is but apparently it has generated an amount of hype here.:) The racing on mafia was impossible for me unless i set the bar to very easy:p but it is playable. Also have to agree with the guy who said the soundtrack rocks. Very appropriate for a gangster type of game...
sebsy Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 In reply to the original post, this is one of the best games I have played. It truly is a brilliantly crafted game, great story, great shooty bits and I enjoyed driving around aswell. Really liked how the cars felt like they were from the era they were representing, a little rickety but accurate. Just an immense game. Only games I can think to recommend are Max Payne 1 + 2, Grim Fandango and Far Cry. But you've probably played that last one :D
Dragula Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 actually no, i haven't tried any of them. :o I'll check them out. Thanks for recommending them...

If you were a magic user or archer it was easy though. But i loved the game and am currently working my way through the lost chapters.. Beware installing it on PC, theres a spoiler in the installation if you read what its installing. Fable 2 looks amazing, especially with the use of the dog. In some ways i feel sorry for Peter Molyneux. He gets so proud of what they are trying to do that he spills the beans in an interview and then when it gets cut he gets the backlash. Like what he says about the dog. I was waiting for Shivering Isles for Oblivion but i just saw it on marketplace for 2400 points.. Anyone played it yet?
