Saturday Week 1, December 2010 GAMMA 457: Monroe VS Essy PRELIMS Viktor Hansson AGE: 31 Height: 6'2 Division: HW Country: Finland Record: 11-1, 7-1 GAMMA Notes: Hansson began his career in GAMMA going 7-0 before losing a UD to Tatsuzo Futabatei back in August. VS Waly da Cunha AGE: 37 Height: 6'4 Division: HW Country: Brazil Record: 17-10, 1-1 GAMMA Notes: Relative newcomer, Cunha signed to GAMMA in March of 2010. He Is 1-1 so far. Luiz Paixao Age:25 Height: 6'3 Division: HW Country: Brazil Record: 5-2, 3-2 GAMMA Notes: Paixao is riding a 3 fight win streak in GAMMA after starting his tenure 0-2. He is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and has been signed to GAMMA since March of 2009. VS Michael Petkovic Age: 31 Height: 6'9 Division: HW Country: USA Record: 24-12, 9-6 GAMMA Notes: Petkovic is a veteran in the sport and is looking to use his experience in this fight. This is his 2nd run with GAMMA after going 3-3 with the promotion back in 2003. This is his first fight since 2005 after he retired from the sport due to a car accident that left him with serious injuries. Jim Luger Age: 25 Height:6'7 Division: SHW Country: England Record: 12-6, 9-6 GAMMA Notes: Veteran GAMMA fighter despite his young age. Has been a member of the roster since March of 2005. Luger is currently on a 3 fight win streak, and is looking to break into the top 25 with a solid performance. Vs Louis Pulver Age: 30 Height: 6'8 Division: SHW Country: Scotland Record: 22-13, 1-4 GAMMA Notes: This is Pulver\s 2nd stint with GAMMA after going 1-3 back in August of 2003. He resigned with the promotion after stringing together a 5 fight win streak on the European independent circuit. Pulver lost his return fight by KO to Jon Grove. Hanley Polter Age: 38 Height: 6'7 Division: SHW Country: Austrailia Record: 19-12, 12-12 GAMMA Notes: This is Polter's 2nd run in GAMMA. He fought for the GAMMA SHW title back in September of 2002 where he lost to Palmer Lette by KO in the 4th round. Since his return, he has compiled a record of 3-3 and is in need of a win to avoid a possible cut. Polter has headlined a GAMMA event 4 times in his career. VS Koryusai Tamura Age: 28 Height: 6'3 Division: SHW Country: Japan Record: 16-7, 7-6 GAMMA Notes: Tamura first signed to GAMMA in July of 2005 and has been trying to crack the top 25 since. He is looking to turn things around with a win over Polter, as he is currently on a 2 fight losing skid. Francis Owen Age: 30 Height: 6'6 Division: SHW Country: England Record: 1-0 Notes: Owen is making his promotional debut. Owen is a former professional boxer who was considered a top contender in the UK. He has been training in MMA for 2 years. VS Jon Grove Age: 28 Height: 6'5 Division: SHW Country: USA Record: 7-3, 3-2 GAMMA Notes: Grove is looking to make a statement by beating the heavy favourite in Owen. Grove is 3-1 in his last 4 fights and has built quite a following in his home state of New Jersey. Dustin Cooper Age: 21 Height:6'4 Division: HW Country: USA Record: 4-2, 2-2 GAMMA Notes: Cooper is looking to get a win as a lose may result in his termination from the promotion. Cooper is a former professional surfer. He lost his last outing via submission. VS Tatsuzo Futabatei Age: 22 Height: 6'4 Division: HW Country: Japan Record: 10-2, 1-0 GAMMA Notes: Futabatei compiled a great record on the Asian independent scene before signing to GAMMA at the beginning of the year. He won his debut against Viktor Hansson by UD. Chi Ji Guang Age: 37 Height: 6'10 Division: SHW Country: China Record: 17-9, 8-7 GAMMA Notes: Guang is on his 2nd run in GAMMA after a 4 year run. He was cut last February after losing 4 straight. He is back after winning 3 straight in spectacular fashion in the American indy circuit. He is currently 0-1 back, his loss coming by way of KO via Chante Buckley. Guang was the former 13th ranked SHW in the world back in March of 2007. VS Jutaro Honma Age: 37 Height: 6'2 Division: SHW Country: Japan Record: 22-10, 5-7 GAMMA Notes: This is also Honma's 2nd run in GAMMA. He will have a significant height disadvantage in this fight. Honma was cut back in April of 2005 after going 1-3 in his last 4 fights. He is 1-2 since his return last year and he definitely needs this win. He is the former 8th ranked SHW back in January of 2004. Ashley Ballard Age: 38 Height:5'11 Division: MW Country: USA Record: 26-12, 11-11 GAMMA Notes: This is Ballard's 3rd run in GAMMA. Ballard was a former contender for the Middleweight title and went 4-3 in his last run with the promotion. He is currently on a 2 fight losing streak and a loss might see him cut. VS Wesley Sneep Age: 35 Height: 5'11 Division: MW Country: USA Record: 24-10, 11-10 GAMMA Notes: This is Sneep's 2nd run with GAMMA after a disappointing first one. He had won his first 3 fights back, and was on way to cracking in to the top 25. He has since lost his last 2 and is looking to turn things around. Chi Tsai Age: 29 Height: 6'8 Division: SHW Country: China Record: 14-3-1, 11-3-1 GAMMA Notes: This is the last of the preliminaries. Tsai is currently ranked #25th in GAMMA. He is looking to crack in to the top 20 with a win here. He started his run in GAMMA with a 5 fight winning streak. He is currently on a 3 fight streak. VS Marvin Serrano Age: 22 Height: 6'3 Division: SHW Country: USA Record: 6-1, 4-1 GAMMA Notes: Serrano always puts on great fights, and he is definitely a crowd favourite. he is riding a 2 fight win streak and is looking to break in to the top 25 with a win over Tsai. MAIN CARD Allen Lefleur Age: 31 Height: 6'1 Division: LHW Country: Canada Record: 19-5, 11-5 GAMMA Notes: Currently ranked #14. is 2-3 in his last 5. He has never entered the top 10 and is looking to possibly do it here with a win. VS Jin Katou Age: 40 Height: 6'0 Division: LHW Country: Japan Record: 30-10, 8-9 GAMMA Notes: #16 LHW in GAMMA currently. He fought for the title back in 2002 where he lost to Mike Watson via TKO in round 2. Since then Katou has remained a dangerous contender. He is currently on a 3 fight losing spree. He was elected fighter of the year back in 2001. He has headlined 4 GAMMA events and was elected in to the MMA hall of fame in 2009. He is a true legend of the sport. Toshiaki Ukiyo Age: 28 Height: 6'3 Division: MW Country: Japan Record: 25-7, 14-7 GAMMA Notes: Currently the 15th ranked MW in GAMMA. He is on a 3 fight win streak and is looking to enter the top 10 for the first time with a win here. VS Braulio Moura Age: 38 Height: 6'1 Division: MW Country: Brazil Record: 33-12-1, 11-10-1 Notes: Moura is the 18th ranked MW in GAMMA. He fought for the title back in May of 2001 where he lost to MMA legend Matthew Dean via UD. Moura is currently 2-3 in his last 5 fights and is nearing the end of his career. He is looking to win this fight and make 1 last run for a title. He has suffered a major concussion as well as 3 broken noses in his career. Kanji Togo Age: 38 Height: 5'8 Division: BW Country: Japan Record: 28-12, 10-7 GAMMA Notes: Currently 4th BW in GAMMA. Lost 2 title matches, once in 2002 vs Willy Basset by UD and then again in 2004 vs Lito Alcala via SD. He finally won the title in 2008 with a submission win over Kawin Kayem. He successfully defended the title once before losing the title to Alcala in 2009 via TKO in round 2. VS Jaime Santiago Age: 24 Height: 5'5 Division: BW Country: Mexico Record: 18-3, 17-3 GAMMA Notes: Jaime 'Legend Of Wrestling' Santiago (18-3) is a Mexican Bantamweight fighter who has been competing for five years. He is a national calibre wrestler. He currently fights for GAMMA. His usual approach is to overwhelm opponents with high-pressure grappling. He is a long-term member of the Camp Ortega team. He is currently the #8 Bantamweight in the world. He is 11-1 in his last 12. Was in line for a title shot before losing via UD to Apolonio Redondo Jr. He is currently on a 2 fight win streak and the topic of title shot is possible with a win. Co-Main Event Nathan Chambers Age: 38 Height: 5'9 Division: MW Country: USA Record: 29-12, 16-12 GAMMA Notes: Currently ranked #21 MW in GAMMA. 2nd ever GAMMA WW champion. Won the title back in 1995. Always a tough fight, Chambers made the move to MW in October of 2008 after missing weight a couple times. Since making the switch, he is 2-2. Has been with GAMMA since July of 1994. VS Paul Goodfellow Age: 28 Height: 6'1 Division: MW Country: USA Record: 21-8, 12-4 GAMMA Notes: Currently ranked #23 in the GAMMA MW division. Signed with GAMMA in April of 2005 where he had a record of 9-5. Since joining the roster, he has gone 12-4 and built a solid reputation among his fellow middleweights. Has just entered in to the top 25 after grinding out 6 wins in his last 7 bouts. Main Event Isaiah Monroe Age: 35 Height: 6'0 Division: MW Country: USA Record: 29-7, 21-7 GAMMA Notes: Currently ranked 7th in the GAMMA MW division. A member of the roster since July of 2001. He is a 3 time GAMMA MW champion and is looking to make another run for the title. He is on a 2 fight losing spree. Monroe was inducted in to the GAMMA Hall Of Fame in 2007. He has headlined an event 13 times and is considered one of the best MW's of all time. VS Tom Essy Age: 32 Height: 6'0 Division MW Country: USA Record: 21-6, 11-4 GAMMA Notes: Essy is currently the #8 ranked MW in GAMMA. He signed to GAMMA in June of 2004 and immediately went on a 4 fight win streak. Essy was granted a title shot in his last fight after winning 5 in a row. He lost via KO in round 2 to Tadao Miyazaki. This will be his 2nd time headlining a GAMMA event.
