  4. <p>yeah AJ's promo was pretty damn good. The content was excellent (Im assuming it was written for her) the delivery was far above average for a diva but i'm not sure she ranks up there with the better talkers on the male side of the roster, despite being head and shoulders above every other diva.</p><p> </p><p> In other related news I loved the Wyatt family's segment on RAW. I want an audiobook read by Bray Wyatt! He's got such a great grasp of how to use language evocatively - not sure if he's responsible for the content, which itself is pretty cool, but his delivery of it is superb.</p>
  5. I hope you are right - I'm just narked that it's another Ziggler knock! It's seemingly not just Billy Gunn's signature look that Ziggler has taken on, but his inexplicable lack of a push too!
  6. I actually thought all that last angle on RAW achieved was making three guys who could potentially help fill in the hole left by John Cena look like wimps who are scared of a guy in a suit and taking the guy most likely to fill Cena's hole and have him get beaten up, all the while whilst making HHH look like a genius - frustrating booking. Such a shame as all it would have taken is one babyface to try and run in and help DB out and the guy would have received a massive boost. It had the making of a good angle, but instead just left me frustrated. But then, I guess that's what it was trying to achieve. I'm just disappointed there isn't a face on the roster who is being booked as having "stones"!
  7. I agree with Chris, I thought on raw cena and Bryan absolutely smashed it. A great promo. Both men were entirely believable. Cena didn't slip into joke mode and managed to avoid too many cliches. Cena showed real emotion talking about the make a wish stuff. And Daniel Bryan's point about being more hungry because he's never held the wwe title also seemed very real. Bryan needed that for me. I found his comedy stuff with Kane and as an underdog character during his recent singles run excellent. But I was concerned he lacked the gravitas to be a proper champion but with his work on raw it said to me that he could carry the company. Perhaps not for an extended period, I don't think a long reign would feel right, but for a couple of months he would make a great champ.
  8. I loved that Teddy Long managed to appear on Raw in a fantastic Brad Maddox costume. 3vs3 tag match? Vintage Teddy Long!

Their movies are either really great or really bad there is not much middle ground with them (No I do not have anything against people who wrote material for Sid Caesar.). Granted I have not watched a lot of Woody Allen movies so I really do not know a lot about his stuff.<p> </p><p> However, in regards to Mel Brooks well I find him to be a comedic genius. If you ever get a chance to see him and Carl Reiner (Rob "Meathead" Reiner's father) do their 2000 Year Old Man bit you know exactly what I am saying. </p><p> </p><p> That being said a lot of Mel Brooks movies just do not work for me. I am probably one of the only people that you will ever hear say this but I hate the Producers. Sure some of it was good but I disliked the majority of it. History of the World Part I was pretty bad as well in fact I would say that was probably his worst movie. I was not a huge fan of Silent Movie either, I mean I really wanted to like it because the concept was great but it just totally missed the mark with me.</p><p> </p><p> On the other end I absolutely loved Blazing Saddles, I consider that to be one of the best comedies I have ever watched, the ending was a little weak but overall it was great. I liked High Anxiety, Young Frankenstein, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights as well. And Spaceballs I can't forget Spaceballs I would actually rank that just below Blazing Saddles. Just a great movie.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Yeah I love Mel Brooks, but like you say at times genius at other times not-so-much. Spaceballs is right up there with my favourite parody movies ever (the wayans brothers could really learn a lot about spoof comedy from watching this) And I agree Blazing Saddles was incredible. For some reason I didn't go much on Men in Tights, just didn't strike the right chord with me. Mind you I was pretty young when I watched, perhaps if I were to watch it now I might feel differently.</p><p> </p><p> As For Woody Allen - I find him hilarious. He plays the loveable nerd to perfection and his deadpan delivery of huge rants is fantastic. My favourite is undoubtedly 'play it again Sam' that movie oozes class. But for some reason Annie Hall just seemed long winded and drab. There are a few movies that I probably should like, but don't. And a few that I shouldn't and do (I love the Star Wars prequels!)</p>
  10. Just watched Annie hall - it was on Netflix. I have to say I think it's overrated. Yes woody Allen is atypically great. But it just wasn't that funny. For me it's another supposed classic that when you really think about it isn't that great. I feel the same way about the breakfast club - I know, blasphemy, right?
  11. I love the Edge/Christian debate. Great to see some excellent observations and opinions. I do think that Christian was given opportunities but he didn't take them as well. His feud with Jericho/Trish etc. should have been his breakout moment, but it never really happened. At first I didn't buy Edge as a main event star but he was actually booked really well to the point where he was an amazing character. He was a heel who I wanted to see lose, but still sympathised with. Whether that was due to the way Edge was booked or because of how he sold the character is a matter of some debate. I disagree on the suggestions that Edge is forgettable on the mic though. Both he and Christian were hilarious as a tag team and as a solo wrestler Edge's stuff was really, erm, Edge-y? But he was also great at conveying emotion. I will never forget Edge facing off against Cena in Canada. The reaction for Edge (who was a heel at the time) was incredible. He sold the emotion of it perfectly - it was one of a handful of times where I had to stop and say to myself "wrestling is still fake, right?" As for the Wyatt family i'm glad they are finally being used again. I was so pumped for their debut and was getting irritated of just seeing replays of their debut, or clips of them doing stuff on a B-show that we can't get in the UK. I thought their match/promo on Smackdown was solid. I'm really excited about where they go with the Kane feud. However, and I might be in a minority here, but I don't want to see them "convert" Kane. I don't think it will really benefit the Wyatt's. I think they need to get themselves over rather than being given the rub from having an established star in their stable.

  13. Don't want to start a an Anglo-American war - but as a proud Englishman - it's nappies not diapers, that's an American word! (clearly you are tri-lingual!)
  14. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>The thing is I don't think CM Punk is that great of an actor. CM Punk gets to be Phil Brooks every night. Thats not an insult Steve Austin got to be Steve Williams every night, Hollywood Hogan got to be Terry Bollea every night. The Rock get to be Dwayne Johnson, Randy Savage got to be Randy Poffo and so on and so on. </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I'm not so sure that's really true. If you watch 'Beyond the Mat' and compare Duane Johnson to the Rock, he's not over the top and a walking cliché he's just a regular Joe. Austin didn't rampage around backstage flipping everyone off and shooting snakes. I think what you're saying has a bit of weight, but I don't think any decent wrestling character is actually playing themselves completely, rather they play a part that has a connection with their real life persona. For me it's a bit like writing. When you are writing a character you are told as a novice author to write what you know, but as you become more advanced they teach you to subvert what you know. Create characters based on people you know, but change details about that person to give fictional characters a freshness.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>What I mean though its its like Eminem getting praise for his acting in 8 mile. Is it really acting when you're essentially just playing an ever so slightly tweaked version of yourself? </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Who did this? <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> had they ever watched a movie? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>CM Punk is a fantastic promo guys, he's a pretty good worker (his kicks look sloppy and times and I think the GTS is the ugliest, sloppiest finisher in history and wish he would use the Anaconda Vice or something else). <p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I have got to disagree here. I would say CM Punk is a very good worker. Not perfect, but one of the strongest in the WWE.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Anyway though Bray Wyatt I would think that he's not really a cult leader in real life or really preaching to the masses about being sheep or what not. Maybe these are some of his thoughts but I would venture to say that Bray Wyatt's character is a farther stretch from who he really is than CM Punk's from who he really is. </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> They were very different promos to be fair. Bray Wyatt is obviously not a cult leader but his promo's resonate because of his informal, preacher-like approach. He uses rhetoric which obviously engages a listener. Punk however was all about displaying emotion. He's not the same angry Punk that cut his golden pipe bomb promo, he obviously does not have a real life grievance with Heyman. Yet he was able to go to the well and pull out a performance that would convince a helluva lot of people that he is livid with Heyman. It was a truly believable piece and that for me is good acting.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Not saying Punk's not awesome he is, and I'm not saying he CAN'T act I'm just saying cutting an old school pro wrestling promo and acting are not the same thing. <p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I think this is ultimately were you and I disagree. For me acting is playing a character different from your own and trying to convey emotions you aren't necessarily feeling. And I think, that although some of the best guys play characters that are an extension of themselves, they are still not themselves.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="djthefunkchris" data-cite="djthefunkchris" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I think Foley was more right then wrong when he said Stand up Comedy and Wrestling Promo's go hand in hand, in that your relying on yourself totally, and trying to connect with the crowd (get them into what your doing/or against).</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> haha have you seen Foley's stand up? It's pretty poor! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Any... Destination X PPV? Any... Legends of Wrestling PPV? I mean I guess he carried RVD to a decent TV match. I don't remember calling him call him "washed up." He is old and small though, and his character has been dull since his feud with Punk last year. I think the Canadian Cool Dads is a great idea!</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> From a technical stand point he could have main evented any PPV for the WWE this year. (i'm sure with a bit of practice he could even learn a fireman's carry and an STF and dominate for a decade!) Sure he has the odd botched spot, but his repertoire of moves lends itself to that. I think the only reason his character seems stale is because he hasn't been booked in a decent feud for a good while, the Fandango feud was blatantly just to give Fandango a "mania moment" and this latest effort against Ryback was turgid crap. They planted a seed for a Ziggler feud and that would have been great for both men. Jericho is great at giving younger workers the rub and a lot of people have made comparisons between the two</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Stennick" data-cite="Stennick" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>And now Henry he's a face because The Shield attacked him not exactly the best story to turn someone face especially after JUST swerving the face turn a month ago. Oh wait, all the booing Cena receives confused me <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Teh_Showtime" data-cite="Teh_Showtime" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I don't know why people want everything to be so clear from the very start. Its not like the Shield hasn't attacked heels randomly before just for the hell of it.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> True. It did feel like a turn though, mainly because Henry has been receiving a lot of face pops, again due to his work rate. Us internet fans love a try-er!</p>
  15. <p>I must admit RAW is becoming must watch TV for me lately. When Bray Wyatt cut his promo I thought, that dude has to be just about the best stick man in the business at the moment - completely chilling, even managed to halt "what" chants, because, well I think its because of how captivating he is. </p><p> </p><p> But then when Heyman had finished his diatribe against punk and Punk formed his rebuttal it was a bit like punk was saying "Bray Wyatt better on the mic than me? Bitch please!" just an amazing promo with great depth and emotion. Forget putting the Miz and Orton in movies CM Punk is arguably the best actor on the roster. And then the brawl between Punk and Lesnar... Epic! </p><p> </p><p> Just my thoughts.</p><p> </p><p> Oh and one more thing - Jericho washed up Canadian? To quote the Miz - Really? Really? Really? He may not be getting any younger but Y2J just put on a match that could proudly sit atop any PPV. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
  16. I guess I look at 80's wrestling through rose-tinted glasses a little bit. I kind of miss the days before I discovered wrestling gossip sites, shoot interviews etc. I long to have back the idea of Hogan eating his vitamins! But i'm focusing on the negative - the fans reaction might have been irritating, but Bray's promo before they hit the ring was absolute money. Loved the entrance too with the lantern and I think Kane will help put them over. I'd like to see Kane return to a slightly meaner version and maybe this will be the spark.
  17. Or possibly - wrestling fans were less noob-ish back then You have to at least give somebody a chance to make you forget the old character, tearing them to shreds the first time they are on "proper" TV seems more than a bit harsh imho.
  18. I disagree - not with the freedom of speech thing - that's a legit point. but it's frustrating that the same smarky fans that were chanting "husky Harris" (presumably to prove that they cleverly remember his old gimmick) will moan that young talent like Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose are being wasted, but then dump all over a future star on his debut. I thought it killed what was a great segment. I just hope it doesn't kill their momentum altogether. If Bray Wyatt is half as good on RAW as he has been on nXt he will be a big star - fortunately time is on his side! I'm venting big time as it really ruined the segment for me. Interested to hear your opinions...
  19. The future is bright for the WWE at the moment. But with all of this awesome heel talent coming up through nxt (And I'm super excited about Bray Wyatt the man is a guru on the mic) there is a bit of a shortage of decent faces around. Plus there are a few faces who could probably do with a bit of a switch. (Orton, Cena, even maybe Sheamus) I think Daniel Bryan and Kane need to split in a way that keeps them both faces. And either they need to start raiding nxt for some decent faces (although there are not many face characters there that have impressed me) or start to rebuild guys like the Miz or Zack Ryder who are going nowhere very fast. Ziggler could do a job as a face, he gets face pops quite a bit anyway from Smarky crowds due to his work rate and he has the look to be an instant face. If the WWE went and offered someone like John Morrison a fat contract i'm sure they could get him back to bolster the face side. (I loved that guy, great look, solid in the ring and mic skills were improving all the time) hell they could even look at bringing in someone like MVP. Having said that, I honestly think the roster is looking as good as it has done for a long, long time. But I still worry it's not being utilised to it's full ability. I think they need to put more faith in the talent, give guys with charisma a bit of free reign instead of making them learn lines. It seems the talent has a bit more input in nxt, i'd like to see that approach on the main shows. With the amount of young starlets on the roster in 4-5 years time the WWE could enjoy a a golden age. (With barely a talentless, musclebound idiot in sight!) I just hope the diamonds are given their chance to shine.
  20. Interesting fact: The person who invented the ballcock, which is an important part of the internal workings of a toilet was called thomas crapper.
  21. I think not putting a big title on Ryback when he was hot was pretty smart. It's a big step to go from squashing a few midcarders to carrying a company. I didn't like the direction they were going with him, but then i'm a bit bias as i'm not really into the "bigger" guys. I was never sold on Batista, I didn't rate Bobby Lashley and i'm not much into Cena. I just think when a guy bulks up too much he can look a bit lethargic in the ring. That's why I have always preferred guys like Jericho/Ziggler etc (and oddly Mick Foley) I suppose being a wrestling fan who uses the internet those are the people I "should" like anyway I agree that making Ryback's character into a tweener would be inspired. They could also do the same with Big Show at the moment, either man could pull it off. I think I could almost get behind Ryback with that gimmick.l I want him to stop "feeding" off the crowd though, his catchphrase is more over than him at the moment!
  22. I would imagine that Jericho V Fandango will also run until then and possibly Miz Vs WB
