  2. Monday, Week 1 January 1992 Prologue McMahon's Take Flight Vince and Linda McMahon have fled the country! With the federal government beginning their investigation into Vince McMahon providing illegal steroids to his wrestlers, the McMahon's have decided to leave the Country as the Calander turned from 1991 to 1992. In their quick and sudden departure, they have sold Titan Sports to friend of the family and NBC Sports executive, Dick Ebersol as well as a consortium of industry leaders and businessmen. These Industry leaders include Stu and Hellen Hart, Frank and Jack Tunney, as well as current WCW Head Booker Dusty Rhodes. The belief is, once the heat dies down on Vince that Ebersol has an agreement to sell Titan Sports back to the McMahon's. Dusty has been appointed by Ebersol and the rest of the group to run WWF's day to day operations as well as their creative. Dusty gave short and decisive notice to his boss, Media Mogul and owner of rival WCW Ted Turner, and has agreed to start with WWF immediately. In an exclusive with WWF Insider Magazine, Dusty revealed some of his immediate plans for the WWF, including changing the core product to a more wrestling based product as opposed to the loud character driven product of Vince McMahon. This leaves WWF Mega Star and figurehead, Hulk Hogan in an interesting spot as he is not known for his wrestling ability as much as he is known for his charisma and promo work. Dusty Rhodes immediately began over-hauling the roster of the New York Based wrestling promotion, releasing older and aging talent of yester-years to make room for some of the younger harder workers of today. The list of talent released on the first day of the Dusty Rhodes Era: Hercules Hernandez "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka Bushwhacker Luke Bushwhacker Butch General Adnan "Lord" Alfred Hayes Nikolai Volkoff Part of the deal to purchase Titan Sports, the Hart Family will open a new developmental Territory in Canada, called simply WWF Canada (WWF-C). The Developmental company will be run by Keith and Bruce Hart, the sons of WWF Minority Owners Stu and Hellen Hart. The following employees were reassigned to WWF-C, effective immediately: Road Agent, Chief Jay Strongbow Referee, Danny Davis Referee, Jack Doan Road Agent, Jack Lanza Referee, Jim Korderas Road Agent and Personality, JJ Dillon Announcer, Michael Porter Referee, Mike Chioda Ring Announcer, Mike McGuirk Referee and Son of Vince McMahon, Shane Stevens (Shane McMahon) Road Agent Tony Garea Dusty Rhodes has promised to announce further developmental assignments as they happen. He has a scouting crew scouring the globe for the best young talent to bring in and get them acclimated to the WWF culture as soon as possible. The last of the main changes made by the Rhodes regime immediately, are changes to television tapings and formats. The TV Show WWF Superstars of Wrestling will be the flagship show and will tape every Monday to be aired on Friday's. WWF Wrestling Challenge will be an hour long supplementary show and will record 2 episodes every other Tuesday for Airings on Sundays. The biggest format change will be WWF Prime Time Wrestling, which will no longer be a round table discussion show, instead will be utilized as a supplementary show with shows being taped two at a time every other Wednesday for airings on Saturday. The Announce teams for each show have been announced as following: For Special Events and Pay-Per-View: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Dusty Rhodes For WWF Superstars of Wrestling: Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby Heenan For WWF Wrestling Challenge: Sean Mooney & Dusty Rhodes For WWF Prime Time Wrestling: Sean Mooney & Mr. Perfect (While Perfect recovers from injury) The 1992 Pay-Per-View and Special Event Schedule was also finalized as following: Sunday Week 4, January - The 1992 Royal Rumble on PPV Sunday Week 4 March - WrestleMania VIII on PPV Sunday Week 4 May - The First Ever King of the Ring Event on PPV Sunday Week 4 July - SummerSlam '92 on PPV Saturday Week 4 September - Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC and other Worldwide Providers Sunday Week 4 November - Survivor Series 1992 on PPV ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CURRENT STATE OF THE WWF Heading into WWF's First show Under Dusty Rhodes the WWF Heavyweight Title is currently vacant, following a series of matches between the Undertaker and Hulk Hogan in November of 19912. WWF President, Jack Tunney has declared that the vacant championship will go to the winner of the 1991 Royal Rumble, in which both The Undertaker and Hogan will receive an entry Number between 20 and 30 to give them a great chance to reclaim their prize. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair have also already been entered into the WWF Royal Rumble. The war between "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Jake "The Snake" Roberts wages on. Over a month ago, Savage (a retired wrestler) was brutally attacked by Jake Roberts and bitten by his Cobra. Jack Tunney re-instated Savage so that he could face and defeat Roberts at "This Tuesday in Texas", only for Roberts to lay Savage out after the match and brutally slapping Miss Elizabeth. Randy Savage is still looking for his revenge. The end of the Rockers came in Heartbreaking fashion, when Shawn Michaels turned on his partner during an episode of Brutus Beefcake's "The Barbershop" and through him through a window. This incident was taped in early December, but has yet to air on WWF Programming. Bret "Hitman" Hart has been a dedicated a respectable Intercontinental Champion, but he is currently in a feud with The Mountie which was accelerated when The Mountie electrocuted Bret Hart with his stun gun after The Mountie's manager, Jimmy Hart, doused The Hitman in water. The Mountie has made no bones about the fact that he is after Bret's Intercontinental Championship. The Natural Disasters have their eyes set on the current and dominant WWF Tag Team Champions, Animal and Hawk - The Legion of Doom. Will their Championship aspirations be achieved in the new year of 1992? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPCOMING SCHEDULE AND CARDS WWF Superstars of Wrestling Taping - Tonight "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair Bret "Hitman" Hart Intercontinental Open Challenge Virgil & "The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich vs Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Louie Spicolli & Chris Walker in a tag team match (8:07) - Rating: 43 Show Open: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan open the show at ringside by running down the card for tonight. Hulk Hogan is in the House, The Main Event is Randy Savage vs Ric Flair, Bret Hart has Issued an Open Challenge for the I.C. Championship, The Undertaker will be in action, and so much more Rating: 76 Match #1: The New Foundation (Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart) d. The Orient Express (KATO & Tanaka) (7:58) A poor back and forth tag team match that the New Foundation won cleanly after Jim Neidhart pinned KATO after hitting him with an Anvil Flattener. Owen and Neidhart showed excellent chemistry as tag team partners, while Mr. Fuji did a good job managing The Orient Express. KATO was the weak link, struggling to keep up with the other workers. Events Center Update: Sean Mooney is back in the WWF Events Center. He introduces footage of Shawn Michaels turning on his tag team partner, Marty Jannetty, from last month while making their appearance on the Barbershop with Brutus Beefcake. he warns the audience that the images are shocking. After the footage is shown, cutting out just as Jannetty is thrown through the window of the Barbershop, Mooney then sends in to a pre-taped promo by Shawn Michael's and his new valet, Sensational Sheri. Rating: 56 Shawn Michaels W/ Sheri Promo: Michaels taunts Jannetty about "doing what had to be done" so he could go on to achieve the greatness he is destined for. He is tired of sharing the spotlight with an ugo like Marty Jannetty and carrying The Rockers. He says he is done with Jannetty and if he never sees him again, it will be too soon. Rating: 59 Match #2: The Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Typhoon) d. Rudy Gonzalez & Brian Castello (8:13) Terrible Match, mostly just Earthquake and Typhoon "playing with their food" and dominating their foes. Typhoon pinned Rudy after a Running Splash. Rating: 54 Pre-Taped Promos: WWF Tag Team Champions, The Legion of Doom, know that The Natural Disasters are next in line for a shot at the titles and they welcome the challenge of the big men. They will take on the Natural Disasters whenever and wherever Jack Tunney wants it to happen. In a second pre-tape, "Macho Man" Randy Savage hypes his main event match with Ric Flair, vows to win the WWF Title at the Royal Rumble and reminds Jake Roberts that he owes "The Snake" a beating. Rating: 73 Match #3: The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer d. Jim Powers by Pinfall (8:18) Sub-par match with a decent crowd reaction. The Undertaker controlled the match and pinned Powers decisively after hitting him with a Tombstone Piledriver. After the match, with the assistance of Paul Bearer, The Undertaker placed Powers in a body bag. Rating: 61 President Jack Tunney Speaks: From his office at WWF Headquarters, WWF President Jack Tunney announces that The Undertaker will face Hulk Hogan in a Steel Cage Match at the Royal Rumble to determine who will get what entry in the Royal Rumble Match. The winner will be #30, the Loser will be given #20 in the Rumble Match to determine the next WWF Heavyweight Champion. Rating: 56 "Mean" Gene Okerland Interviews Kerry Von Erich and Virgil: Backstage Gene Okerland puts over the booking of The Undertaker vs Hogan at the Rumble in a Steele Cage Match before introducing his guests, Virgil and "The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich. Virgil and Kerry start hyping their tag team match tonight with Ted DiBiase and I.R.S. when "The Million Dollar Man" interrupts with his deep distinct laugh. He offers Kerry $10,000 to bail on his partner tonight and thus leaving Virgil to compete in a handicap match. Kerry informs the loud-mouth Million Dollar Champion that no Von Erich can ever be bought and he looks forward to seeing him in the ring tonight. Gene informs everyone that match is NEXT. Rating: 60 Match #4: "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Schyster d. Virgil and Kerry Von Erich via Pinfall (10:14) In a decent tag team match, the team of DiBiase and IRS defeated Von Erich and Virgil after IRS blasted Virgil with his briefcase, allowing him to get the pinfall. Ted Dibiase really stood out in this match as did the commentary work of Gorilla Monsoon and Heenan. Virgil struggled to keep up with the other competitors. Rating: 70 Post Match: After the Match, IRS and DiBiase continued to beat up Virgil, but Kerry made the save. The numbers game eventually caught up with Von Erich and DiBiase put him to sleep with the Million Dollar Dream. DiBiase then stuffed a $100 bill into the unconscious mouth of Kerry Von Erich. This angle really got the crowd going. Rating: 65 Rick Martel Accepts Hart's Open Challenge: Earlier today, Bret Hart was with Gene Okerland saying he hopes The Mountie accepts his open challenge, instead "The Model" Rick Martel emerges and tells him he plans to take the IC Title from Hart and restore it to the glory it deserves. Match #5: WWF Intercontinental Title Match - Bret Hart d. "The Model" Rick Martel by Submission (13:46) This was a good match with decent wrestling and decent crowd reaction. Back and forth, Bret and Martel who went all-out to steal the show. Bret won the match with Submission via the Sharpshooter, this was Hart's 6th defense of the WWF I.C. Title and really got the crowd buzzing. Rating: 82 Post Match: After the match, The Mountie hit the ring and drilled Hart with the butt of his stun gun. Martel joined in and was going to hold Bret so he could be stunned, again, by the Mountie, but "Rowdy" Roddy Piper hit the ring and prevented the duo from doing too much damage. Rating: 64 Hulk Hogan Interviewed by "Mean" Gene: Backstage, Hulk Hogan tells Gene Okerland he's not happy with the announcement made by Jack Tunney earlier tonight, but he welcomes the chance to prove once and for all he is better than The Undertaker. With the Steel Cage, he is confident Ric Flair will be unable to interject himself into this match and vows to be #30 entrant in the Royal Rumble. Rating: 79 Match #6: Ric Flair w/ Mr. Perfect d. "Macho Man" Randy Savage w/ Miss Elizabeth by pinfall (20:07) This was an exceptional Match between two incredible competitors. Mr. Perfect interjected himself early in the match and referee Earl Hebner caught it and ejected Mr. Perfect from Ringside. It looked like Savage was going for the victory, when Jake Roberts emerged and began stalking Miss Elizabeth, this distraction was enough for Flair to roll up his opponent and get the pinfall. Rating: 82 To close out the show, Gorilla ran down the card for next week: Bret Hart & Roddy Piper vs Rick Martel & The Mountie WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Legion of Doom(c) vs Haku & The Barbarian Shawn Michaels vs Greg "The Hammer" Valentine Big Bossman vs Irwin R.
